Waching daily Feb 2 2017

hi there Vladimir here with another video on how to learn English

Native vs Non-native language teachers which are better?

It's a topic I feel quite passionate about.

The subtitle of my book is by a non-native, for the non-native

Searching for books on "how to learn Japanese" on Amazon, the top 20 books are mainly by

non-native speakers of the Japanese language.

Searching for books on "how to learn English" on Amazon, the majority of the top 20 books

are by native speakers of the English language.

There is something wrong with one of these search results, isn't there?

99% of all English learning videos on YouTube are by native speakers of English

It's a very unique skill that native speakers have

Native speakers of any language

I'm not picking on native speakers of English

I'm talking about native speakers of any language

We can get a job teaching our own language, without any teaching qualifications

anywhere in the world just for being native speakers

It's a very unique skill that all native speakers have.

We all know our native tongue, but we didn't really learn it, we didn't really study it

I am a native speaker of the Bulgarian language, I know the language.

I understand everything I hear.

I can read, write and speak that language with ease.

If you asked me a question about how to say something in Bulgarian, I would be able to answer it

I know the language, I speak the language but I didn't really learn it

we all studied our native language in school the alphabet and grammar

but we all know that it's not a real study

We have the skill but we didn't learn it.

We don't know what it's like to learn it yet we have it

It's a very unique skill that we all have

So what is the point that I'm trying to make here?

Knowing something and teaching something are two very distinct, separate areas of expertise

Being an excellent athlete doesn't necessarily make you an excellent coach

Being an excellent musician doesn't automatically make you and excellent music teacher

Being a native speaker doesn't necessarily make you a good language teacher

And the second point I am trying to make is that

Teaching a language is so much more than just being a human dictionary

Dictionaries are free, teachers are not.

Generally speaking, teaching something presupposes having learned that thing

Can you teach something you haven't studied?

Could you teach an ET how to breathe?

You could show it, but could you teach it HOW TO breathe?

Suppose you wanted to change gender, transition from a man to a woman

Who would you go to for advice?

Kris Jenner or Caitlyn Jenner

If you wanted to break into show business, who would you go to for advice

Michael Jackson or Madonna?

MJ entered show business at 6 years of age, Madonna at 20

Suppose you wanted to start your own business

Who would you go to for advice on how to go about doing it?

Steve Jobs or Tim Cook?

Elon Musk or Akio Toyoda?

I think I made my point clear

With regard to their native language, native speakers have no claim on the phrase How To Learn

On the other hand, I as a non-native speaker of English can lay claim to that phrase

and I have, it's on the cover of my book

learn how to learn English

I've learnt the bloody language, I've done it as an adult and I've written a book about it

I'm not arguing that non-native speakers are better teachers

No, I'm not saying that either.

All I'm arguing against is placing an equal sign between

native speaker and the best language teacher

Don't automatically assume that native equals the best

It's one of the biggest myths about learning a foreign language.

It's one of 8 myths I dispel in my book Virtually Native

a book based on my experience as both

a non-native learner and a teacher of the English language

If you care about your time and money you should read my book before

continuing with your foreign language studies

Virtually Native is available at Amazon and virtuallynative.com

A Small Island 가마고리섬 蒲郡竹島〔Japan Vlog#33〕 - Duration: 5:47.

Hello everyone, it's Dana.

Today I went to Takeshima Island in Gamagori-city.

It takes 30 minutes from Nagoya by train.

Takeshima Island is a small island in Mikawa Bay

and it was designated as a natural monument.

The whole island is sacred area.

It is popular as a place that gives you special energy.

It is connected to the opposite shore on the mainland by approx. 400 meter long Takeshima bridge.

The bridge is supposed to bring good luck to couples.

If lovers walk the bridge together holding their hands,

their love will last forever.

An important point

you must not look back until you cross completely over to the other side.

This is Takeshima bridge.

It is 387 meter long and 5 min walk.

When the tide is ebbing, you can get to the island without bridge.

It is sunny so it looks warm in this video

but actually it was really windy and cold.

The bridge is lit up at night

and it will be more fantastic.

This torii gateway was built before the bridge was built.

The bridge spans under the torii gateway.

After you cross the bridge, it is sacred area there.

The whole island is the precincts of a Shinto shrine.

I drew a written fortune.

Good luck

I tied the written oracle to the rope.

The island's natural vegetation is completely different from that on the opposite shore.

It is the only warm temperate forest in Tokai region.

That is why this island was designated as a natural monument in 1930.

The distance to the opposite shore is only 400 meters though.

In spite of within walking distance.

It is very rare.

There is a walking trail around the island.

You can enjoy not only green forest near shrine but also

the beautiful view of Mikawa bay.

You can have a relaxing time here.

However

there are some rocky areas on the walking trail.

So I recommend you come here wearing sport shoes.

I was wearing sneakers today so I walked around the whole island.

Am I a Hipster? - Duration: 3:31.

Am i a hipster?

Last week i was accused of being a hipster.

By friends.

Just because i like old things

like He-man and mustache wax.

To be called a hipster

simply because you like old things,

well,

that is simply preposterous.

it's because of the beard isn't it?

I love it how some people after not seeing you

for a long time go

ooh! you grew a beard.

No, i just didn't shave.

There's a difference.

10 Health Benefits of Drinking Warm Water - Duration: 7:41.

10 Health Benefits of Drinking Warm Water. Benefits of Drinking Warm Water.

Drinking

Drinking water is essential to a healthy body and lifestyle. Many health and skin experts

agree that drinking water is important to keep your body free of toxins, make you fit

and give you soft and youthful skin.

In fact, starting the day with a fresh glass of water is a routine that many health-conscious

people follow daily without fail.

Well, drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning is a very good habit, but it

is important to know whether it is cold or warm water that you should prefer.

Physicians recommend drinking warm water in the morning, even though it may not suit your

taste buds. You can drink it plain or with a little bit of lemon juice for taste.

Drinking warm water is not limited to just the morning, either. Read on to find out how

it can be helpful at other times of the day and for alleviating various ailments.

health benefits of drinking warm water

Here are the top 10 health benefits of drinking warm water.

1. Improves Digestion

To improve digestion, start drinking warm water regularly.

Tepid water stimulates the digestive gland to function properly. It helps break down

the food in your stomach, so that the digestive system does not have to work as hard and it

also uses less energy for the digestion process.

drinking warm water improves digestion

Plus, it helps the body get rid of excess stomach acids as well as neutralizes digestive

juices.

2. Relieves Constipation

Regularly drinking warm water on an empty stomach can help regulate your bowel movements

and fight constipation.

Constipation occurs due to less water content in the intestines, which causes the stools

to turn hard and dry and makes them difficult to pass.

drinking warm water relieves constipation

Drinking warm water helps your digestive system maintain regularity. It helps decompose any

remnant food and makes bowel movements smooth and less painful. It will also reduce abdominal

bloating, pain and discomfort, mostly associated with constipation.

To fight constipation, it is recommended to drink a glassful of hot or warm water every

morning on an empty stomach. For added benefits, add honey or lemon juice to warm water before

drinking it.

3. Soothes Sore Throat

Sore throat is a common problem characterized by pain and irritation of the throat and is

caused by a cold or flu infection. Drinking warm water soothes a sore throat and makes

you feel more comfortable.

drinking warm water soothes sore throat

The warm water helps dissolve the thick mucus and removes it from the respiratory tract.

In addition to drinking warm water, you can also drink other warm liquids like herbal

teas. Plus, you can gargle with a glass of warm water mixed with ½ teaspoon of salt

to treat a sore throat and throat infection.

5. Sheds Excess Pounds

Those who follow a strict diet and exercise regimen for weight loss can benefit greatly

by drinking warm water rather than cold water.

Warm water increases the core body temperature, which in turn increases the metabolic rate.

An increase in metabolic rate will help your body burn more calories.

Plus, the pectin fiber in lemon will help control food cravings, which means you will

stop munching on fatty and unhealthy foods.

6. Detoxifies Your Body

Drinking warm water can also cleanse your body by flushing out harmful toxins.

When you drink a few cups of warm water, it leads to a rise in body temperature. This

makes you sweat to cool down. Sweating helps flush out toxins trapped in your body.

For better results, add a squeeze of lemon juice to a glass of tepid water before drinking

it. 7. Alleviates Menstrual Cramps

Though it sounds odd, drinking warm water can help prevent and alleviate painful menstrual

cramps.

The warm water relaxes the contracting muscles in the uterus, which in turn will provide

instant relief from cramps and muscle spasms.

drinking warm water alleviates menstrual cramps

Plus, it will help stop your body from retaining water and prevent painful bloating during

menstruation.

Next time you start having menstrual cramps, drink a glass of hot water to get instant

relief. You can also apply a hot water pack on the lower abdomen to ease the pain.

8. Improves Blood Circulation

Drinking some warm water will help improve blood circulation, which is important for

moving blood throughout your body in order to deliver oxygen and nutrients to different

tissues and organs.

Proper blood circulation also is important for proper muscle and nerve activity.

drinking warm water improves circulation

When you drink hot water, the fat deposits in the body burn and the built up deposits

in the nervous system also break down. This improves blood circulation in the body and

also flushes out harmful toxins.

Avoid drinking extremely cold water, as it is known to close up your veins.

9. Slows Down Aging

Drinking warm water is good for your skin as well. It helps remove toxins and other

impurities from the body. The various toxins contribute to premature aging and various

health problems.

drinking warm water slows down aging

Also, drinking warm water helps in repairing the skin cells, hence rejuvenating your skin

and improving skin elasticity.

Add the juice of ½ lemon to a glass of warm water before drinking it to enhance its detoxifying

power.

10. Induces Sleep

If you are having difficulty getting sound sleep, sipping a glass of warm water before

going to bed can help you sleep like a baby.

The warm water raises your internal body temperature, which in turn relaxes your body, soothes your

nerves and makes you sleepy and calm.

drinking warm water induces sleep

It also prevents midnight cravings and leads to a feeling of rejuvenation in the morning.

Important note

Always drink tepid water, as drinking hot water can potentially be damaging to the tissues

in the mouth and esophagus. After boiling water, allow it to cool for

a few minutes before drinking. Always drink tepid water while eating food.

When you drink cold water, your body will need more energy to increase its temperature,

which detracts from the digestion process. Avoid drinking warm water after a workout,

as the body temperature at this time is already high.

21 Ways To Greet Someone Like A Native | Learn Australian English - Duration: 12:07.

G'day guys.

Welcome to this episode of Aussie English.

I'm Pete, and today I'm going to be teaching you 21 ways to greet someone like a native.

Let's go!

So, let's start with the simple ones guys.

Hello.

Hello.

Hello, mate!

Hello.

So, Hello is the kind of greeting that I would use as a native when answering the phone,

you know,

*ring* *ring*, "Hello?

It's Pete speaking.",

if I was answering the door and I didn't know who it was, someone's knocked on the door,

"Hello? Who's there?".

But it's not really the kind of greeting that I would use when talking to someone face-to-face.

Hi.

Hi, mate!

Hi.

Hi, again, is pretty common.

You're going to hear this all the time, especially, in countries like America, probably Britain as well.

You might hear it from time to time in Australia, but again,

it's not the kind of greeting that I would really use with people I know.

It might be something that I say to a stranger.

If someone bumps into me and I turn around and they were like, "Oh, sorry.

How's it goin'?", I might say, "Oh, hi!".

Hey.

Hey, mate!

Hey, how's it goin'?

Hey.

Hey's the kind of greeting that I would use all the time.

This is short, sweet, very quick.

Hey.

Hey, how's it going?

Hey.

G'day.

G'day, mate!

G'day.

G'day.

G'day is another greeting that you guys hear me saying all the time.

This one, however, is definitely Australian.

You're not going to hear this by Americans.

You're not going to hear this by people from the UK, at least, not with that contracted

"Good".

They'll probably say "Good day" if they're really in a formal situation.

But in Australia we say "G'day" all the time, and especially the more working-class you

are, as you go out into the countryside,

you're going to hear people like Steve Irwin or Crocodile Dundee, that kind of stereotypical

Australian saying, "G'day mate."

G'day.

G'day.

Howdy.

Howdy, guys!

Howdy.

Howdy's another one that you might hear sometimes from Australians, but I think this one is

a lot more American,

and the only reason that Australians might say it is if they watch a lot of American

TV and they hear this all the time,

or they're kind of just being a little jovial, you know, a little humorous, like "Howdy!

How's it going?

Howdy, guys!",

you know, sort of putting on that American accent a little bit, but not in a nasty way.

So, that's "Howdy".

Howdy, guys!

Howdy.

Alright, before we move onto the really really good ones, the longer ones, the slightly more

difficult ones,

I want to get through the fact that we don't say "How do you do?".

This's something that I feel is taught all the time, and I have people saying this to

me, but it is incredibly formal.

Obviously, if you were incredibly proper, incredibly formal, if you're in the royal

family,

if you're the Queen of England you might say to people,

"How do you do?

How do you do sir?",

but no one is going to say that to you in real life.

No natives would ever greet each other "How do you do?"

unless they were being sarcastic.

It's a lot more natural to hear people saying...

How're you doing?

How are you doing?

How ya doin'?

How ya doin'?

Good mate. How are you doin'?

How're you doing?

And this one's pronounced "HOW YA DO EN".

How ya doin'?

How ya doin'?

So, now that we've covered that let's move onto the next ones, and these are really common,

these are really common.

What's up?

Hey, mate, what's up?

What is up?

Not literally "What is up?", but more,

"What is up with you?

What's going on?

What're you up to?

What's up?",

and you'll often hear this contracted to just "S'up?".

So, I might be like, "Hey, mate, what's up?" or I could be, "Hey mate, s'up?".

So, you're going to hear this all the time.

What's up?

What's up?

Or simply, "S'up?".

S'up mate?

What've you been up to lately?

What have you been up to lately?

So, what've you been up to?

What've you been doing?

What've you been up to lately?

And you're going to hear this contracted all the time to,

"Whatcha been upta?"

WHA CHA BIN UP TA.

Whatcha bin upta?

Whatcha bin upta, mate?

G'day mate, whatcha bin upta?

Whatcha bin upta?

And this is just another way of saying, "What've you been doing?".

Whatcha bin upta?

Another really common one is "What's goin' on?".

What's goin' on?

Not much, what's goin' on with you?

What's goin' on, man?

What's going on, mate?

And you'll often hear, What's goin' on?

What's goin' on?

What's goin' on?,

you'll often hear this contracted to just "S'goin' on?", SGO EN ON?

So, we've just taken "What" out of the equation, left the "S" and then we've got "GO EN ON".

S'goin' on?

S'goin' on, mate?

What's the goss?

What's the goss, mate?

Not much. What's the goss with you?

What about you? What's the goss?

What's the goss?

"Goss" in this case, is short for the word "Gossip" as in rumours, what's the news?,

what're the secrets about people?

What's the goss?

What's the gossip about you?

What's the goss?

What's new?

G'day, mate, what's new?

What's new?

What's new, man?

"What's new" is just literally, "What is new with you?", What is the news?

What's new?

Can you tell me something I don't know or that I didn't know when I last saw you?

What's new?

What's the news?

What's the news?

And this often gets contracted to "What's news?".

What's news, mate?

Not much. What about you? What's news?

So, you've got "What's new" with no "S" at the end, and then you've got, "What's news?".

And when someone says to you, "What's news?

What's news?", they're asking you to tell them what yours news is.

Like you're watching the news on TV and you're hearing all of the new information for the day.

They want to know what your new information is.

What's news?

Tell me what's new with you.

Tell me what's news.

What's your news?

What's news?

What's been happening?

Hey, man. How's it goin'? What's been happenin'?

What's been happenin'?

What has been happening?

And this often gets contracted all the way down from "What has been happening?"

to "What's been happenin'?"

What's been happenin'?

And this is a lot similar to "What's the news?", "What's the goss?", "What's your news?".

I'm asking you about what's been happening in your life.

What's been happenin'?

Another really really common one, and this is one that you should probably focus on out

of all of them in here,

all of these different greetings, this is a really really common one that's easy to remember

and that you're going to be able to use a lot and hear a lot in Australia,

"How's it goin'?".

How's it going?

How's it goin', mate? How're you?

How's it goin', mate?

"How is it going" getting contracted down to "How's it goin'?"

HOW ZIT GO EN.

How's it goin'?

Another one, similar to "How's it goin'" is "How're you goin'?".

How're you going?

How're you going, mate?

Yeah, not bad. How're you goin', mate?

How are you goin', and this gets contracted down to just HOW YA GO EN.

How ya goin'?

How are you?

How ya goin'? How are ya?

Hey, mate! How are ya?

How are ya, mate?

How are you?

Are you good?

How are you?

Tell me how you are.

Are you good?

But this one gets contracted down to HOW WAH YA.

How are ya?

So, that again, that is an incredibly common one.

How are ya?

How are ya?

Learn that one as well as, "How's it goin'?" and "How are ya?".

How are ya, mate?

How's it goin', mate? How are ya?

How's things?

How's things on your end?

How's things, dude?

How's things?

How is things?

This one's probably incorrect grammatically, because "Things" is plural and you're saying

"How IS things",

but all the same, it's said a lot.

How's things?

How's things?

This's similar to "What's news?", "What's goss?", "What's been happenin'?".

How are your things?

What're the things like on your end?

Tell me about your things.

How's things?

And then, obviously, we've got the grammatically correct version, "How ARE things?".

How're things?

Dude! How're things? I haven't seen you in ages.

Yeah, good to see you too, man. How're things?

How're things? We should catch up!

How're things?

How're things?

How's it hanging?

How is it hanging?

Dude, how's it hangin'?

Yeah, not too bad, mate. What about you?

How's it hangin'?

How're you mate? How's it hangin'?

"Hanging" like you were hanging from a tree.

How's it hanging?

This's also very common.

And again, with that "How's it..." it turns into HOW ZIT, HOW ZIT.

How's it hangin'?

So, it gets contracted down from "How is it hanging?" to "How's it hangin'?".

And getting to the last one here, guys, "How have you been?".

Mate, how've you been?

How have you been?

Have you been well, mate?

How've you been, mate?

This is one that also gets contracted even further.

We get rid of the "'VE" from "Have" that's on "How" and we just say...

"How ya been?".

How ya been?

Dude, I haven't seen you in ages!

How ya been?

Dude, what about you?

How ya been?

How ya been?

That's it, guys.

There's at least 21 in there.

They should be pretty easy.

There's a few interesting pronunciation things going on there, but definitely go back over it.

Have a look at the way that I've outlined the real pronunciation of these phrases,

and focus more on using those kinds of colloquial greetings and colloquial ways of saying,

"How are you?", "How're you going", "How're you doing?", "What's going on?",

all of that sort of stuff.

You'll sound a lot more native and people are going to respond really

definitely I think you'll find than if you were to use things like, "Hello"

and "How do you do?".

Anyway, let me know what you guys think.

Do you already use some of these in your day-to-day spoken English?

Comment below, and I'll catch you later guys.

Hope you're well.

G'day.

Goodbye.

See ya!

I was literally so

...

excited and amazed and

...

Ah! I still am! I'm still recovering. I'm still processing.

It feels like it's changed

um, how I see myself. I didn't know how I was going to

feel today, um, but it's a really positive

thing and I feel really, um, like it's given me

something that I didn't have before.

I've always felt sort of a real affinity with

other European countries and I just feel so

excited about those. Or, you know, not just the Europe...

10 different... ahh!

I find it really exciting to think that that's all,

that's all there, and that you can find all this

out from a DNA test. It's just, um, it feels

very freeing actually. I feel like I want to

just go do loads of exploring about all

these different nationalities that I've got in me!

I've never actually been to Italy

and I've always wanted to go.

I think the culture and the food and the

beauty and, and the Spanish is really

exciting too. I mean, the Greece. All of it!

Everything. And the Scandinavian? I just,

would of, I was really surprised

about that because I'm dark.

It feels like it's unlocked something deep inside

me and I really wasn't expecting that response.

I though, 'Oh that'd be interesting to find out', um

But I do feel different. I do feel, um....

like it's gone quite deep, actually.

I can foresee in my magic crsytal ball that there will be a new episode of Sweets for geeks. It starts NOW!

Hello and welcome to a new episode of Sweets for geeks. Madlen here, and I am happy you are watching this video!

Today we will be making something Dragon Quest 8 themed. This was just published for the Nintendo 3DS.

Nintendo was so kind to provide me with these 4 slimes :D.

So let's bake Dragon Quest slimes today! I will make meringue for this.

So if you want to know how to make these by yourself, just keep watching because I am gonna show you now!

For our meringue slimes we will need:

100 g white chocolate

200 g sugar

4 egg white size M

a pinch of salt

and a dash of lemon juice

This will make about 40 meringue slimes, depending on how big or small you make them.

We will need the following equipment:

a baking pan with parchment paper

a clean fat-free bowl

I am also using a stand mixer with a swirl attachment.

A glass for filling the piping bags

few bowls, tooth picks

piping bags or alternatively airtight baggies,

spoons, a spatula,

a scissor. Also I am using gel food coloring today:

I am using :

I am using Americolor. I will put a link in the description down below.

Let's start with adding the salt and lemon juice to the egg whites, after we made sure that there is no slime in one of the bowls. The add the mixture to the bowl and let it mix on high speed until it so firm, that you can theoretically cut it. This takes about 5 minutes.

As you can see I am moving the spatula and the egg white doesn't fall off or only after a long time, and this is the consistency we are aiming for.

Then add the sugar gradually while mixing it in on high speed. Once everything is mixed together we are finished with our preparations :D.

Now distribute the mixture to 4 bowls evenly and color it in pink, yellow, blue and green.

I am doing this by adding a few drops of color to the mixture. Then I am filling the mixtures into plastic bags.

I am not using a tip, I am just cutting the tip of the plastic bag off.

Start by placing 4 dashes of the egg white mixture into the corners, so that the baking paper cannot be moved around anymore. Now lets create our slimes. We are looking for an onion form.

And I have to admit that not all of my slimes worked out perfectly fine. Some of them look a bit like they have tumor on their body :3, but oh well with some practice you will know the trick. Just try to make an even dash and then slowly remove the piping back to the top.

This will also make the little tip of the slimes on top.

Now we put the slimes into the oven at 120 degree Celsius with lower and upper heat turned on. Oven needs to be pre-heated.

This is a special attack. Putting the slimes into the oven haha.

Let them slow dry in the oven for about 35-60 minutes depending on how big your slimes are.

I have left mine for about 35 minutes in there, so they were a bit more chewy. If you let them in for a longer time they will be more crunchy.

Once done, take them out of the oven and let them cool off completely before putting them on a plate. Now I have melted my chocolate in the microwave so make sure to use a microwaveable bowl.

I have melted it in 30 second intervalls and stirred between each intervall. Once melted I have mixed in a few drops of vegetable oil, which makes it easier to draw with the chocolate.

One part I have dyed black, one part red and one part I have kept white.

Now we can start drawing his little face by using the tooth picks. I have started with 2 drops for the eyes, then red for the mouth and finishing it off with 2 black dots for the pupils.

Then just repeat this 5000 times :D and you are done, that's how easy it is.

I have to say these are pretty easy to make. You know that from some of my videos that I also make things that take a bit longer :D. But these are cute little sweets that you can eat as a snack or you make them as a gift for a geek :D, or I don't know maybe you throw a Dragon Quest 8 party.

That's it!

New episodes are coming out every second Thursday. Do not forget to subscribe to not miss out on any of them :).

Drum Beats of Latin America - Cumbia (Columbia) - Duration: 1:57.

Hi everybody!

It's Brendan here with Liberty Park Music and today we are going to look at a groove

from Latin America.

We are going to look at Columbia and specifically at Cumbia groove.

We're gonna take the percussion instruments in a Cumbian Sombo and put them, apply them

into the drum set.

So first we're gonna take the Tambora, which is like a big bass drum that you strike with

a mallet, with beaters.

We're going to apply this to the rim of the low tom and we also are going to use the bass

drum to replicate that sound.

We then are going to take the Llamador, which is a little bit like a congo, it's like a

hand drum that you play like this.

We're gonna play that with the high tom, okay?

And then around that I'm also going to sort of a, I'm gonna keep the pulse going with

my hi hat replicating maracas patterns.

So let's have a look at how this will work.

Shoulder Pain and Flute Playing - Duration: 6:34.

Well hi, I'm Rebecca Fuller the expert here at Learn Flute Online dot com and this Youtube

channel.

And today you are going to learn what to do about that shoulder pain while you are playing

flute.

You may have noticed this while you are playing the flute, whether you are a brand new beginner

or you have been playing for awhile.

You have your flute up and you're playing along when all of a sudden you're shoulder

starts to throb and ache and it just feels like you need to put your flute down and stop

playing.

Well what is that pain and how can we avoid it?

The first thing you need to know about avoiding that shoulder pain while you are playing the

flute is that your muscles in your shoulder are just like any other muscles in your body.

Where if they're not used to lifting something for long periods of time it's going to kind

of hurt.

It gets lactic acid built up in there.

And you'll notice it gets worse and worse and worse the longer you have to hold it up.

So you may have felt that before and wondered how you can get rid of it, besides just putting

your flute down.

Well just to know, since that is a muscle, so it does need to be built up.

But there are some strategies and techniques that you can use to make sure that you don't

have quite as hard of a time adjusting to how to play the flute and holding your flute

up for longer periods of time.

The longer you are learning to play the flute, the longer you're practicing, and the longer

you are required to hold it up, the more you may have noticed this.

And it gets progressively worse unless you can figure this out.

So the first step here is that we are going to learn how to play our flute in a certain

position and do something with our body that will make it easier for us to not get so much

lactic build up there.

So as I hold my flute up, you'll notice that, if I turn sideways you'll notice something

interesting about how I play.

You see that my flute is a little bit diagonally in front of me.

See this?

Instead of pulled behind, and perfectly straight parallel to my body.

That will actually pull my shoulder and my muscles back and the muscles in my back.

Especially in my upper back but a little into my lower back as well.

And it will cause unnecessary pulling where it shouldn't be.

So let me show you that again.

So hold my flute up nice and straight, my head straight.

And my elbow relaxed down.

That's the next thing you need to thing about, relax it down.

Then back to our first tip.

Notice as I'm holding it, it's actually in front diagonally instead of pulled here.

That's something you need to think about and notice as you are actually playing the

flute.

The next trick that I can give you, so this would be the third thing, is that you need

to play with your left leg in front.

Left leg.

Yes, and I'll give you another video later that will help you understand some more benefits

of making sure your left leg is in front.

That will really help.

So today we talked about, actually four different things.

Now the steps that I gave you were one, make sure your flute is actually being played a

little bit diagonally in front.

The second thing I talked to you about is to make sure your shoulder and your elbow

are relaxed down.

Not pulling your flute down, but that you're not playing like this.

Like with a chicken wing, right?

So relax it there.

What was the next thing we said?

The next thing is that we need to have our left leg in front because that is going to

put everything in the right order in our body.

And I will give you more tips and tricks on that later.

If you'll remember back to the very first part of the video though, I talked to you

about your muscles and how they are just like the other muscles in your body.

So like a weight lifter who goes and learns how to do some really good bicep curls, at

first it's actually a little more difficult.

Even if they are just using a five pound weight, It would be a lot harder to sit and hold it

in a static hold for long periods of time.

Until it has been practiced enough and the muscles have been built.

That is the exact same thing you are going through as you are learning to play the flute.

You've got your arms in this static position where you're holding for long periods of

time.

The more you have to do it, in the proper position, the easier it will get because you'll

be stronger and more used to it.

So I hope that helps you today in learning what that pain in your shoulder is as you

play flute.

And how to fix it and what you can do to make it even better.

Make sure that you subscribe to this Youtube channel because I have lots more content coming

out all the time.

And don't forget that over at Learn Flute Online dot com is where the website is where

it hosts all of my videos, all the learning videos.

Where I have hundreds and hundreds, if fact over a thousand now videos all set in sequential

learning order for you!

And full learning on how to play the flute really well.

Not just learning how to play it, but learning how to play it really well.

Again I'm Rebecca Fuller and I thank you for watching this video today.

We'll see you next time.
