Antikythera Mechanism.

Like something from a fantastical treasure movie, the discovery of the Antikythera Mechanism

remains a major archaeological head-scratcher.

Found in the sunken wreckage of a Greek cargo ship that is at least 2,000 years old, the

circular bronze artifact contains a maze of interlocking gears and mysterious characters

etched all over its exposed faces.

Originally thought to be a kind of navigational astrolabe, archaeologists continue to uncover

its uses and now know that it was, at the very least, a highly intricate astronomical

calendar.

It is still the most sophisticated device ever found from that period, preceding the

next appearance of similar devices by 1,000 years.

10 WTF Facts About FIFTY SHADES DARKER & Fifty Shades Freed - Duration: 6:55.

The Fifty Shades series is back on the big screen with stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie

Dornan continuing E.L.

James's story of Ana Steele and Christian Grey.

So, to mark the return of the multi-million-dollar film franchise, I've put together some crazy,

intriguing facts about the Fifty Shades movie sequels.

After the first film, some audiences complained that there weren't enough, erm, shades of

Dornan on show.

In fact, even the 90-year-old co-editor of the Shades of Grey movie, Anne Coates, thought

the film could have been raunchier.

Dakota Johnson also joked that she was going to start a campaign to get Jamie Dornan 'fully

naked' in the sequels.

And Dornan himself said he thought Hollywood's double-standards on male and female nudity

were unfair.

But while Dornan has also said he's not bothered about being nude on camera, he's remained

pretty reticent about what exactly is on show in Shades Darker and Shades Freed, saying,

just a couple of weeks after filming, that he couldn't remember.

Despite that and the rumours that he was offered over $1 million to reveal all in the sequels,

the 'Dornan D', as Dakota jokily called it, remained firmly tucked away in a flesh-coloured

bag during filming, just like it was in Shades of Grey.

Now that Jamie Dornan's known all over the world for bringing Christian Grey to life

on the silver screen, there's not many places he can go without being recognised by fans

of Fifty Shades.

In fact, the funniest fan interaction he remembers took place in an elevator.

And no, it was absolutely nothing like that scene in Fifty Shades Darker!

What actually happened was that, Dornan was in an elevator when a very drunk woman suddenly

realised who he was and started telling him that it was thanks to E.L.

James's erotic novels that she got pregnant as after reading them she and her husband

began having a lot more sex!

Shooting the two sequels, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, involved 160 sets

and locations, and 103 days of filming in three countries and eight cities.

In fact, one of those locations proved especially familiar for Jamie Dornan, who by a quirk

of fate ended up staying in not only the same hotel but also the exact same room he'd stayed

in when he acted in his very first movie, Marie Antoinette, over 10 years previously.

And if that wasn't enough of a déjà-vu experience for Dornan, for the Fifty Shades sequels,

he also filmed at the opera house by the hotel, the very place where he shot his first-ever

scene as an actor.

And on top of that, the cinematographer on Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed

is John Schwartzman, who's the cousin of Marie Antoinette writer and director Sofia Coppola

and the brother of Jason Schwartzman, who starred in Marie Antoinette along with Jamie!

The biggest, most demanding sequence for the movie's crew was the masquerade ball at the

Grey family mansion that features in Fifty Shades Darker.

When she was writing the book, EL James based the scene on her own experience throwing two

masquerade balls.

But the filmmakers went for a different look to the 'very restrained' 'pastel affair' that

James says she imagined when writing.

However, they did tip their hat to the novel when it came to things like the menu, wine

and auction items.

Production designer Nelson Coates was inspired by the lavish looks of Venice and its mask-filled

Carnival, and even re-created an old Venetian cathedral floor at the Vancouver Convention

Centre where they filmed the ball.

Amid all the extravagance of the masquerade scene, costume designer Shay Cunliffe wanted

to keep Ana's look minimal, making her stand out as, what she calls, a 'beautiful siren

of simplicity'.

So, Ana's gown channels old Hollywood, especially 1930s musicals, and was created by LA-based

fashion designer Monique Lhuillier, whose clientele include Reese Witherspoon and Scarlett

Johansson.

And every single feather in the cape that Ana wears as she enters the ball was sewn

on by hand.

Dressing the scene's more than 200 extras proved trickier than the filmmakers first

thought.

Initially, they turned to the costume houses Tirelli in Rome and Malabar in Toronto to

hire period outfits.

But then the scene began looking like an 18th-century play, so they sent the outfits back, and instead

went for a mix of costume pieces along with formal party wear including 1980s couture.

In addition to that, they also bought hundreds of masks from classic mask makers in Venice.

The Fifty Shades sequels give even more insight into Christian's billionaire lifestyle.

For example, several new rooms were added to his penthouse that weren't seen in the

previous film, including a library and billiard room, that's home to a very special Brunswick

Centennial Art Deco pool table, which is a limited edition collectors' item from just

after the Second World War.

The room also houses an especially distinctive $17,000-dollar chess set by designer Kelly

Wearstler that features a hand-sculpted marble board and gold and gunmetal-plated bronze

pieces in the shape of human body parts including hands, legs, lips, and torsos.

Forget the clean-shaven Christian from Fifty Shades of Grey, the new movie in the series

hasn't just gone darker, it's also gone stubblier.

After complaints that Jamie Dornan wasn't sporting his usual bearded look in the first

film, the filmmakers decided that stubble was the way forward for Christian Grey's face

in the sequels.

Which has not only pleased fans who love their leading man with added facial fuzz, but also

Dornan himself who absolutely hates shaving!

In fact, the Northern Irish actor has actually said that he hates his face when it's beardless

because it makes him look too young.

And since Dornan feels more at ease with himself when he's unshaven, he always tries to stay

that way in each new role he takes on.

The Fifty Shades franchise may have played a big part in Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan's

lives, catapulting them to worldwide fame, but their nearest and dearest have yet to

see them on screen as Ana and Christian, and probably never will.

Yes, although Dakota's parents, Working Girl star Melanie Griffith and Miami Vice star

Don Johnson, are both experienced actors themselves, the thought of watching their daughter in

the Fifty Shades films is just too uncomfortable.

Indeed, Dakota had a bit of an argument about the subject with Melanie on the red carpet

at the 2015 Oscars, but didn't succeed in changing her mind.

But mum Melanie does know what she's talking about when she says it would be just 'too

awkward' to watch the movies, as she actually read all the Fifty Shades books well before

her daughter auditioned for the role!

However, Melanie's decision to skip the movies means she'll miss out on a little surprise

tribute to her in Fifty Shades Darker, though Dakota hopes she'll at least see a clip of

that one particular moment.

As for Jamie Dornan, he's said himself that Christian Grey's not the sort of guy he'd

hang out with and that the stuff Grey does in the Fifty Shades movies doesn't float his

or his wife's boat, and likewise he understands why his wife, actress-composer Amelia Warner,

doesn't want to watch the movies.

And after all, the birth of the couple's daughters, the first child three days before filming

kicked off on Shades of Grey, and the second, two weeks before the sequels started shooting,

is more than enough for Amelia to remember her husband's stint as Christian Grey!

So guys, what do you think about the Fifty Shades movies?

And how do you think they compare to the books?

Weekly Peek | Underground Earth Bag Building Ep 21 | Paint, Can Lights & Rubber Floor Try - Duration: 11:58.

Bree: In the previous episode, we have natural light of the basement in the underground earth

bag MusArt studio.

(Music)

This week we will start by doing some painting downstairs.

Gary: See these two pins.

That goes in there.

(Music)

Bree: That's purple.

(Music)

Shae: Hi buddy. I like it.

Bree: It is a good thing Garen is not here.

Eh?

Shae: It's not purple.

It is grey.

Bree: It is kinda of a Grayish grey.

You know what you could?

Shae: What?

Bree: Use it as the do what use it as a base.

And we are doing it as a staff of notes.

So you do your whole line of notes.

You start it there and ended it there.

Shae: Hi pretty boy.

Hi pretty boy.

What about staffs?

Bree: Do the musical staff all the way around.

do each one of these.

Shae: I will take you down.

Take you down...

Bryson: Alight the plan today is to put in the can lighting.

Because you can do it.

Shelly: Cam you?

Bryson: ...to put the can lights in.

Oh ya..

Gary: I have never seen these connectors before.

look...

Bryson: They are actually really cool.

I have used them.

Gary: They are cool though.

Bryson: You put them like...

Gary: For people like me who make simple mistakes...

Bryson: That is ridiculous.

Gary: Reduckulas.

(Music)

Perfect.

Shelly: It that a head holder?

Gary: Brson?

Bryson: yea...

Gary: Where was you when I was putting mine in?

Bryson: You know it doesn't matter to have that crooked?

Gary: It does to me now.

Shelly: Do you straighten it out Gar?

Gary: I did.

(Music)

Bryson: Are we going to wire this thing.

(Music)

Shae: If you think the guys are the only ones working, We are going to give you a sneak

peek of a future video.

Follow me.

Bryson: Whoa are those little dragons?

She: Yes.

Miniature little...

Bryson: What's that?

She: That's the tip of the wing.

Shelly: We started to get comments about the rubber floor.

It was just very exciting to me because it's something completely different that we haven't

tried before but I have a tendency to like okay we we've done that now let's go try something

different even if that past thing worked.

I like to keep moving and doing something different.

and so I started doing some research on it but when I went to go priced them out it's

like 25 hundred dollars to do our little by little floor down there so that's kind of

silly so we've got why don't we try to figure out what they're doing and what they're

using we know that they're using recycled tires they're using it in very small pieces

and then they're using a glue to bind them.

So what we are going to do is we picked red and backgrounds rubber for a little test colors

and there is a little opening on this one.

This is actually called mulch and you can see it is actually tire pieces of recycled

tires.

And then they use something called wet poor which is really be the way that makes it into

a hard floor and we discovered it was polyurethane that they're using to bind so we're just going

to do a little experiment just to see if we maybe can do it this way.

Because I would really love to do something different and fun.

Bryson is going to get our chipper going here.

We want to chip the mulch a little bit more.

Our chipper wasn't working.

So Bryson jumped in there to fix it.

Bryson: That stupid chipper.

Shelly: So this is like some serious wrong huh?

Bryson: Naw, I wouldn't call this serious.

Shelly: So this thing is not going to be fixable this point without more parts we're not going

to order the parts for it.

Sometimes, our attempts to fix things don't go quite likely expect.

Bryson: It was an accident.

It is suppose to have two wires and now it doesn't.

Shelly: It does not stop us we are going to go now with a blender.

Huh Bryson?

Bryson: I want to be there when you do it..

Shelly: You better get over here because I'm ready to move

This chipper makes a good table huh Bryson?

Bryson: Ya.

It is good foe something.

Shelly Yea.

I like it.

Bryson: Really.

Shelly: It is not chopping anything up.

Bryson: No.

Not really.

I don the wood chipper would have done this.

Shelly: The wood chipper would not have worked either.

And now we need another chop it up idea.

(Music)

We then decide to take some mulch out of the jar and try again.

Bryson: We broke it.

Shelly: (kidding) What did you do that for?

Bree: You broke it.

Shelly: And it's no different.

Gary: What's wrong with the size pecies that are already there?

Shelly: Well i have to say, that some of the website shows big chunks like this we could

just try it without chopping it down.

Gary: Why don't you do your experiment that way.

Shelly: ok.so who has glasses who can see this I can't.

Ok That's good Ok ok.

That's definitely more than I thought you doing here then he shook it inside the plastic

bag oh yeah that looks good.

Let's take it down there and try it out.

(Music)

Gary: Half inch...three quarters.

Shelly: ok so we'll come back.

Gary: we wanted to go with that kind of play ground floor and have some acoustic things

that we liked about it comfort we just have some ability to deaden sound.

Shelly: when I thought it was wake up to this morning is just no way which is going to work

and i'm giving a little hopeful at this moment.

Bree: oh is this it? oh I think that would be kind of fun to get together

Bryson: make sure we don't have to.

Bree: it is going to really fun in here.

Gary: Oh ya. that is really nice.

Bryson: you know it's really cool about it is if we dropping anything....

Gary: You drop your guitar and boom...it comes right back in to your hand.

Bryson: That is actually a really good thing.

It is not quite dry though.

Shelly: Should we go for it?

Gary: Ya , Let's do.

Let me sweep. You guys get to mixing.I will get to cleaning.

Shelly: Good.

Gary: The great about bringing in a lot of different ideas about how I rooms where you

know from your own experience so what's been learning capturing from what you have been

saying.

we need a room that has the modular approach.

i learned so much about how to arrange the room and modular fashion to get the best

recording.

we're going to have video down there we have music down there you have a low base down

there we have high, vocals.

Shelly: yeah and we'll be doing to the lifestream podcast well that'll be something that would

be going down there as well.

This rubber floor not like if we could use it anywhere else.

we're going to leave that piece and then we'll move on to other things.

it's somewhat fortifying it looks like we're going to need something on the top of it.

Gary: a sealer and that's probably gonna be good not only to come fill in some of the

gaps but also to may be also trap in some of those out gasping problems by casting of

tire sometimes you can be you know...Who wants to smell rubber all of the time.

Shelly: we wanted those open rafters so we could pass things down to the floor if we

were going to be doing something heavy.

and how can we know we're going to go with this rubber idea, we can go ahead and close

up the second floor.

we will be moving on to that next but for now I think we'll just leave this floor

like it is and wait to hear back from you hoping to get some really good ideas of how

we might be able to seal and some other things that we can do with the floor.

Gary: you have had all kinds of great suggestions... cork; dead in, wood, oak, you can also put

carpets down too.

I like to lay my gear on carpets and stand on carpet.

it will be nice to be standing there and have a little cush on my feet.

Bryson: it is really gonna to be awesome.

definitely feel like a playground Gary: It is a playground.

It is a musical studio boingyboingy.

Bree: stay tuned for next time we continue building on the MusArt Studio. just a quick

reminder we're going to be doing that live stream podcast but will be opening it up to

the public instead of a private webinar that we talked about earlier.

the first one will be on Wednesday February 22nd. we hope to see you there have a wonderful

week.
