hey it's patti scharf CPA and co-founder of catching clouds the leader in

e-commerce accounting today I want to just tell you about a conversation I was

having with a couple of other accountants they both specialize in

e-commerce and one of them was saying hey I've got this opportunity to work

with a client but they want to use QuickBooks Online so you know what what

would you guys say or do in this situation

and one of the other people in a group was like well you know you could

consider working with QuickBooks on I know you're a hundred percent zero only

but you you could consider working with QuickBooks Online and you know maybe

opening up additional markets and more services and I was just like oh oh no

and it's not because I don't like QuickBooks Online it's I've got a couple

of thoughts on this and one is the the ik at the the clients that we're serving

they aren't accountants that's why they're coming to us and they are

trusting us to know the right tools to use for them so I would hope that they

would place enough trust in us to pick that tool if they're really

adamant and they maybe they are super tech savvy maybe they're our CPA and

just want somebody else to do the day-to-day bookkeeping great fine and

and they love QuickBooks Online great I would just be like let me introduce you

just somebody else who uses QuickBooks Online but I wouldn't change my own

practice and work with other tools and let me give you a little bit more

context on this so I actually used QuickBooks QuickBooks desktop and

QuickBooks Online QuickBooks it like all the QuickBooks is from like 2005 to 2016

as late as 2016 we had one last client that we didn't have the heart to fire

until we were like we just can't do it anymore

unless I want to just do the bookkeeping forever more so so we I've used

QuickBooks a lot I've got no problems with QuickBooks but here's what happened

back in 2013 I think maybe even earlier maybe two

thousand twelve but definitely 2013 I was like okay I need somebody else in

here to help with the bookkeeping and I'm not gonna do it all myself I'm

building a business and not a job so I need to standardize my processes and

things like that so I was like okay well with this situation with QuickBooks

Online and integrated with Bill comm for example you do it this way and with Xero

and Bill comm it goes the other way and it was just I found that I was having to

duplicate all of the processes it was super confusing for my team when when

people weren't as tech savvy as me it was really hard to train them because

they just be they get mixed up about you know not understanding the workflow and

things like that so so I made the conscious decision and it was a

strategic decision in 2013 to only pick one tool and run with it and that ended

up being zero partially because I just loved it the more you 0 the more I liked

it the more I used QuickBooks Online the more hated it

but that's a personal preference thing but the other reason was around that

time we started specializing in e-commerce businesses and at that time

it blew away the competition as far as being able to integrate with other

systems and things like that so it was really a no-brainer for me to become 0

only and I would never pick up well never say never but I have no intention

of picking up another tool just because it's not necessary you can do everything

with Xero that you could with QuickBooks Online and I would say vice-versa too so

it really comes down to personal preference you hear me say this all the

time over and over I guess that's my soapbox

story is about depth when I was 17 I

read a quote that went something like if

truly important remembering that you are

avoid the trap of thinking you have

something to lose you are already naked

there is no reason not to follow your

heart about a year ago I was diagnosed

with cancer I had a scan at 7:30 in the

morning and it clearly showed a tumor on

my pancreas the doctors told me this was

almost certainly a type of cancer that

is incurable and that I should expect to

live no longer than three to six months

my doctor advised me to go home and get

my affairs in order which is doctors

code for prepare to die it means to try

and tell your kids everything you

thought you'd have the next 10 years to

tell them in just a few months it means

to make sure everything is buttoned up

so that will be as easy as possible for

your family it means to say your

good-byes I live with that diagnosis all

day later that evening I had a biopsy

where they stuck an endoscope down my

throat through my stomach and into my

intestines put a needle into my pancreas

and got a few cells from the tumor I was

sedated but my wife who was there told

me that when they viewed the cells under

a microscope the doctor started crying

because it turned out to be a very rare

form of pancreatic cancer that is

curable with surgery I had the surgery

and thankfully I'm fine now this was the

closest I've been to facing death and I

hope it's the closest I get for a few

more decades having lived through it I

can now say this to you with a bit more

certainty than when death was a useful

but purely intellectual concept no one

wants to die even people who want to go

to heaven don't want to die to get there

and yet death is the destination we all

share no one has ever escaped it and

that is as it should be because death is

very likely the single best invention of

life its life's change agent it clears

out the old to make way for the new

right now the new is you but some day

not too long from now you will gradually

become the old and be cleared away sorry

to be so dramatic

but it's quite true your time is limited

so don't waste it living someone else's

life don't be trapped by Dogma which is

living with the results of other

people's thinking don't let the noise of

others opinions drown out your own inner

voice and most important have the

courage to follow your heart and

intuition they somehow already know what

you truly want to become everything else

is secondary when I was young there was

an amazing publication called the Whole

Earth Catalog

which was one of the Bible's of my

generation it was created by a fellow

named Stuart brand not far from here in

Menlo Park and he brought it to life

with his poetic touch this was in the

late 60s before personal computers and

desktop publishing

so it was all made with typewriters

scissors and Polaroid cameras it was

sort of like Google and paperback form

35 years before Google came along it was

idealistic overflowing with neat tools

and great notions Stuart and his team

put out several issues of the Whole

Earth Catalog and then when it had run

its course they put out a final issue

it was the mid-1970s and I was your age

on the back cover of their final issue

was a photograph of an early morning

country road the kind you might find

yourself hitchhiking on if you were so

adventurous beneath it were the words

stay hungry stay foolish it was their

farewell message as they signed off stay

hungry stay foolish and I have always

wished that for myself and now I wish

that for you stay hungry stay foolish

We're gonna analyze Walmart as an investment, and we're gonna do it all in 90 seconds…

You wanna keep up with stocks but you don't have time to read a lengthy report on every

company that interests you.

You're busy.

I get it.

I respect that.

So I took the most important considerations from my research and packed it into 90 seconds.

Use this to decide if it's worth your time to research further, to keep up with stocks

you already own, or to just check in on some of the largest companies in the world.

Fair warning: I'm obviously gonna go fast.

Let's put up a clock.

And let's do this!

Walmart is the largest brick-and-mortar retailer in the world.

As of this taping, they have a market capitalization of around $250B, with a share price of around

$80.

It operates 11,700 stores and various e-commerce websites under 65 different banners in 28

countries and is the largest private employer in the world with around 2.3MM employees.

To own or not to own, that is the question.

Here are a couple reasons you might want to consider owning Walmart:

Probably the biggest reason is for its stable and regularly-increasing dividend, which has

averaged (since 2009) around 2.5%.

But keep in mind, that also happens to be the average for the consumer retail industry.

Walmart is relatively healthy with a net worth of around $80B and a gradually diminishing

debt level.

In fact, it's cash and short-term assets are enough to cover all long-term liabilities.

They seem to be making progress with their e-commerce efforts, reporting 33% growth this

most recent quarter compared to less than 25% in the previous quarter.

But here are a few reasons to not own Walmart:

With their substantial e-commerce reinvestment, the company's margins keep shrinking.

Walmart's PE and PB Ratios are higher than the average for the consumer retail industry,

which is somewhat surprising for such a mature company.

At the same time, it's expected annual growth in earnings and revenue are less than the

industry.

It's earnings decreased by 34% over this last year, compared to the industry's increase

of almost 17% And finally, over the recent past, Walmart

insiders have been net sellers, which could mean a number of things that have nothing

to do with the company's valuation, but it's something I like to keep an eye on.

Walmart is a mature, well-established company, especially in the United States.

Their greatest opportunities for future growth lie in e-commerce and further international

expansion.

If Walmart can effectively secure e-commerce market share, their future could be much more

promising.

But that's easier said than done when you consider their much nimbler competition in

that space, Amazon.

Share What You Love DSP - A Club Project - Duration: 7:06.

Hi my stamping friends Melissa Kerman here with Melissa's crafting treehouse Today

I have a super simple project for you that features the share what you love

designer paper and the love what you do stamp set

these are new products in the 2018-2019 annual catalog and this is also a club

project and all my club members got a variety of different designer papers to

choose from and I made cards with I think maybe eight of the different

patterns and so I gave them different color schemes to play with as well so

most of them the majority of them used this tranquil tide cardstock as the

background and then I've used a piece of mint macaron a little strip there on top

of my black one which I'm attaching right there now for people who are

getting these as kits in the mail your small thin colored strip may actually be

longer than the black strip in which case you'll just want to attach it and

then snip off the edge and it is good to attach it to your that piece there like

I did with the tranquil tide so if there's any difference in the sizing of

the pieces you can also shave off a little bit on the edge I try to make it

exactly you know precisely the right length but sometimes it's a little bit

tricky to get it exactly perfect every time so I'm really just assembling the

card here I've already die-cut my sentiment I've stamped it on a piece of

the mint macaron one of the returning in colors very excited to have that back in

the color lineup and i've stamped it and then cut it out with my stitched shaped

framelits you can see them up there in the upper right hand corner the set of

stitched aged 4 edged framelits I've also used the layering ovals framelits

what you see in the upper left hand corner of the screen and I've already

die-cut mice college scalloped edge oval that's a bit difficult to say and it's

sitting there and behind the sentiment piece and if you buy this stitch edge

frameless just know that they are a little bit particular and how you have

to get them out it's almost like they're stitched in there so obviously it came

out of that piece of card easily but taking it out of the dye

itself you have to sort of tuck your finger in along the edge to sort of get

it out of there so one of the things I love about the stitched edge framelits

is that they're circles ovals and squares so they coordinate with the

layering ovals framelits and then also layering circles and layering squares so

it's they're really versatile I love them so I've done my sentiment piece in

two different ways in some cases I just attached it directly to the card as I'm

doing right here now for a few of my card designs I used either silver or

gold thread as an element in behind the sentiment and I did that because the

designer paper has some elements and pearlized elements and I thought it

would look really nice with a little touch of shine so you can see me here

with the silver thread and I'm just wrapping it around my fingers I have my

fingers spread apart to make sure it has the right length so it will actually be

seen behind the scalloped edge oval so I've wrapped it around about six seven

maybe eight times and now I'm just pulling it off my fingers carefully and

I'm just gonna twist it sort of like a figure eight and that just helps to kind

of hold it in place now I have adhesive in the back on the back side of my oval

already and it's important that you put it on in advance just because it's

really hard to get the adhesive on there when you're kind of fumbling with the

thread and now I'm just kind of messing with them to spread out the pieces of

thread to kind of make it look pleasing to me and then I'm gonna put some

dimensionals on the back side and attach it to my card so you may notice I have

some stays on there in front of me I'm not using that for this card I sort of

stole this little clip from another video because I did do this element on

another video recently so you can see my version that has the dimensionals on the

back already so for the sentiment on this card I actually used the momento

black ink just so you know so now I'm starting with my twine and for the kits

the people who received kits I just said enough to double up black baker's twine

alone just because everybody got different designer papers and I figured

be a lot easier to be consistent and didn't know what variations people would

want so just went with simple but on this one as you can see I just created

an air bow by doing creating two dog ears with the Baker's twine and just

tying it into a nice little bow now I'm fiddling it with it here just to kind of

get those ears to look like I want them to and it can be a little bit tricky

when you double up the Baker's twine like this some people hate doing air

bows so on one of my projects there is an alternative option just to using

simple rhinestones so you may choose that as an alternative so here's a

little trick that I do I use just two regular old pencils and put the ears in

there and then I kind of double my finger my figure ability sounds kind of

funny but it allows me to hold on to the tails of the bow and adjust the sizing

of the ears and make them consistent in the same size and so anyway that works

really well for me with any kind of ribbon in fact so I'm just gonna snip

off the ends and put glue dot in the center of that ribbon and attach it to

my card and I'm all done so I've actually done seven different variations

of this card design with the different designer papers and if you actually used

three different embellishments or ribbons from three different sweets in

the new catalogue I've used the rich Razzleberry velvet ribbon from the share

with you love's sweet and I've used the nature's twine which comes in four

colors from the nature's poem sweet and here are my samples and I've also used

the black eighth inch cord which is a shiny cord really really pretty and fun

to work with from the graceful glass suite so I've had a lot of fun with this

Hey it's Sean McCabe with seanwes tv I want to help you create a "2020 vision"

now "2020 vision" it's a little bit of a play on words it means seeing clearly

but it happens to be the year 2018 and two years from now it will be the year

2020 a lot of you are starting something out right now you're you're committing

you're gonna show up every single day I want you to show up every day for two

years that's a theme I have that's a mantra I have maybe you've heard this

but you need to focus on creating a "20/20 vision" meaning the work that you

do now the showing up every day that you do now is not for today you're not

showing up every day for today until 2020 you're showing up today for 2020

that makes sense I want you to make something now for the person who will

discover you in two years that's who you're building this for

you're you're creating now because you want someone to enjoy what you've made

in the future and even if they don't see the thing that you made now two years

from now it's where the thing you make now when you showed up today to make

something to create something to put your voice out there to put your message

out there it's where that will get you it's how

that will develop your voice so that what you say in 2020 is going to

resonate with someone but show up and don't expect any results the results now

don't matter you shouldn't be creating now for the results if you're creating

now for the results you're gonna burn out you're not gonna last you have to

find something that you enjoy the process forget the lights forget the

shares the purchase is like that stuffs gonna come the money will come the fame

will come but if you're creating now for that you're not going to last until you

get there you have to find something that you enjoy the process something you

like doing regardless of all those things if you can find that if you can

align what you do with what fulfills you then you can make it to that point the

people that you look up to now the people who are getting all of this

acclaim and fame and stuff they were creating long before that moment they

were creating when no one cared no one noticed them

but they did it because they loved it and eventually they broke through create

a "20/20 vision" show up every day for two years the results today don't matter do

it for the person who's going to discover you in the future if you're new

3 Ways to Tell if You are Straining your Voice - Duration: 6:31.

So how can you tell if you're straining your voice when you sing? This is

something that we worry a lot about as singers, because you want to keep your voice

healthy and beautiful for a long time. Today I'm going to show you three signs

that you can look for, to see if you're straining your voice when you sing. Coming up!

Hi all and welcome to Singgeek. My name is Ronja Petersen and I'm

here to geek out on your voice. This video is all about helping you avoid

vocal strain, so that you can keep your voice healthy and beautiful. But first

what is vocal strain? Strain on your voice happens when you air rubs against

the edges of your vocal folds and this creates friction. To understand what

happens here is you see that the muscles in your throat that they tighten up and

this tightens the vocal folds and then they can't move freely with the air and

the air rubs against the vocal folds instead. So that's what creates that

tension and when you hear people sometimes say "stop singing from your

throat." That's usually what they mean "Stop tightening the muscles in your throat." So

why are we scared of this friction between the air and your vocal folds?

Well when this friction happens it creates heat and it causes your vocal

folds to swell you would actually feel this heat created if you rub your hands

against each other you can feel that it gets warm yeah that's what happens in

your vocal folds. Now this is actually pretty common that this happened to you

like, maybe if you're at a party and you're talking loudly or if you're at a

game with your friend and you're yelling at your favorite team. That's pretty

normal you will feel your voice is a little swollen the next day and you

might be a little bit hoarse but it will heal in a few days and that is perfectly

fine and okay. The thing to worry about it that if this friction happens a lot

your vocal folds and your voice it doesn't get to heal itself and so you keep

having this swelling that goes again and again and that creates calluses and this

counts as it turns into these bumps called nodes or nodules and that's when

some singers they start feeling that they're losing some of their range or

that they get this unintentional raspy voice. So let's learn to recognize these

signs of strain so that this doesn't happen to you.

The first way that you can try to figure out if you're straining your voice is by looking at yourself

when you're singing. If your veins are popping here I'm just singing

there's usually a pretty good sign of strain as I said before you're trying to

control your voice with the muscles in your throat

instead put your shoulders down, you know, connect with your breath support and let

your voice be controlled with your air instead of from your throat another

sign of strain and I've said this before in previous videos if you're locking

your jaw and tilting your head back and you're singing oh yeah that's a big sign

of strain also you know you want to level back your head and let your jaw

loose make room for the notes yeah

hello-hello-hello. Let the sound come out.

The second way that you can tell if you're straining your voice

is by being aware of how you feel I sometimes have people that they they

come in and they tell me mmm I had someone say "my voice feels on fire

when I'm done singing" or someone said "I feel like I have this lump in my throat

when I'm singing" or I hear people say like "I have to push out my voice." Those

are signs of strain it shouldn't feel like you know like you're going against

something or like you're pushing to sing. Instead it should feel like you're

supporting your voice with your air and that your voice is sort of falling out

effortlessly. That is how it should feel when you're singing without strain. I

think this can be hard for a lot of people because especially the people who

really wanted actually. I meat a lot of singers that they they you know they put

so much force because they want to sound like their favorite artists and

they're working so hard and this is one of those things where sometimes actually

people lay off the effort a little bit, and let the voice come out and just

enjoy your own sound and then it will teach you to strain less.

A third way that you can use to tell if you're straining your voice is by listening to

your voice. Listen to your sound you can pretty often hear if you're yelling or if

you're singing. You know if you're going "hello" then you're yelling and you're

straining. Or if you're going "hello" then you're singing. There's this brilliance to your

voice when you're singing this sort of nice brilliant tone when you're singing

a way that you can listen to your own voice is if you go like this. This is how

your voice sounds to everyone else. I have made another video about this also

but if you go like this usually you can hear that brilliance

in your voice and you can adjust your sound to this voice and this will help

you to not strain. It looks a little silly sometimes my bandmates will make

fun of me if I start going like this if I'm like oh I feel like I'm straining my

voice I need to get back to that sound that I know I love I'll go like this so

try that out now you know how to look for signs of strain let's talk really

quickly about how to avoid strain in general there's some situations where it

happens more often. So the first one, and this is the one I had to learn the hard

way, is if you're in rehearsal and you can't hear yourself most people they

start yelling this is so bad for your voice so talk to your bandmates you know

it's okay if they think you're a bit of a diva that's how it is you know they

have to be able to hear you your musical sounds better they should know how you

sound with the mix so ask them to turn down or if you have a very hard-hitting

acoustic drummer you know then turn your own mic up a little bit get used to

actually singing healthy and hearing your voice healthy with the band so

another thing you can also do is sing in front of a mirror look at yourself you

will be so surprised you'll be like oh I thought I was having good posture I

thought I was using my diaphragm use that mirror to be an investigator let it

help you figure out oh my the veins here on my throat are actually popping a lot

more than I thought they were. Use that mirror. The last thing that I think you

should do to avoid straining your voice is record yourself. I know it can be a

little bit uncomfortable sometimes but if you get used to hearing your voice

and if you get used to knowing how your voice sound when you strain and you can

record yourself in your songs then you can pick out the phrases where you're

straining you can take them out and you can practice them and not only will this

help you not strain this will help you become such a better singer. This will take

you to the next level because you will sound better right. So record yourself that's

my last thing that I think you should do to avoid strain if you have
