R. Kelly Net Worth 2019: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com
Surviving R.
Kelly, a new six-hour Lifetime docuseries, premieres tonight to chronicle the rise and fall of R&B superstar R.
Kelly.
The series will track Kelly's rise from a young artist at Chicago's Kenwood Academy to the hitmaker he became with singles like "Bump N' Grind," "I Believe I Can Fly," and "Down Low (Nobody Has to Know).".
The series will focus largely on his 2008 trial where he was found not guilty of 14 child pornography charges, as well as his troubled relationships with many different women, including the most recent accusations in the media that he's running a "sex cult.
Ahead of Lifetime's three-night event, here's everything you need to know about R.
Kelly's net worth, including how his many legal troubles affected his financial well-being and future.
Kelly's Current Net Worth is Surprisingly Only $1 Million.
.
Robert Sylvester Kelly, better known by his stage name R.
Kelly, is a singer, rapper, and record producer with 14 studio albums to his name.
He grew up on the south side of Chicago where he dropped out of school to be a subway musician.
Shortly after, he won $100,000 on the TV talent show Big Break and signed with Jive Records in 1991.
His solo debut 12 Play was certified six times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
He began a production career simultaneously, producing records for other artists including Age Ain't Nothing But A Number, the debut album of teen pop star Aaliyah.
He also produced some of the biggest singles of the '90s, including songs by Michael Jackson, The Isley Brothers, Maxwell, and K-Ci & JoJo.
In 1995, his album R.
Kelly sold four million copies.
Despite his many successes, Kelly's net worth is shockingly low at a mere $1 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
So what went wrong?.
Kelly's Many Financial and Legal Troubles Cost Him A Lot of Money.
.
Since 1994, Kelly has faced a slew of sexual misconduct allegations, which Vox has done a thorough job collecting.
Many of these accusations stem from Kelly's contact with minors and also the many women who claimed abuse.
While he seems to consistently be in the hot seat, the singer has frequently settled these issues out of court, reportedly paying tens of millions of dollars to make these problems disappear.
If Kelly never had any legal problems, his net worth could easily be between $150 and 200 million.
The Allegations Against Him Impacted Kelly's Career in Major Ways.
While Kelly has remained untried for most of the allegations legally, his career understandably suffered.
In 2012, Forbes reported that Kelly owed $5 million in unpaid taxes dating back seven years.
The very next year, he lost a house to foreclosure.
Just two years ago, new allegations yet again forced Kelly to cancel an entire tour after the news put a dead stop to ticket sales.
In July of 2018, Kelly released a 19-minute song called "I Admit" where he addressed many of his allegations.
On the track, Kelly claimed to be broke and sings that he needs to tour "just to pay rent." He also admitted that at one point, he owed the IRS as much as $20 million forcing him to accept handouts from his record label in order to pay his bills.
Kelly continues to struggle financially.
As a result of his snowballing controversies, he isn't allowed to tour in many countries overseas.
Spotify and other streaming services have even stopped adding his songs to public playlists, also heavily affecting his bottom line.
Kelly Also Lost A Large Portion of His Wealth When He Divorced Andrea Lee, His Wife from 1996-2009.
Kelly was married to Andrea Lee from 1996-2009, arguably the most profitable years of his career.
"The parties have reached an amicable resolution concerning all issues related to their marriage, and will share joint custody of their three children," their Chicago-based lawyers said in a joint statement.
Despite this "amicable" split, his now ex-wife, a former backup dancer for the star, went to court to obtain a restraining order claiming physical abuse, harassment, stalking, and interfering with her personal liberty.
Kelly released a statement saying, "My wife and I had a heated argument, and we are now in the process of working it out." The order was later recalled.
According to MTV, "The initial split came less than a year after Kelly saw charges dropped against him in Florida for having sex with an underage girl, but amid a long-running court case in Chicago in which Kelly was accused of child pornography based on a widely-distributed videotape that allegedly showed the singer having sex with an underage girl.
" He was, however, acquitted of those charges.
Before his marriage to Andrea, Kelly was also briefly married to a 15-year-old Aaliyah for five months.
That union was annulled in February of 1995.
Kelly Has Won Dozens of Awards for His Songwriting, Performing, and Producing.
Thanks to his triple-threat talent of singing, writing, and producing, the R&B star has a plethora of awards under his belt.
He won three Grammy Awards for his ballad "I Believe I Can Fly" including Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, Best R&B Song, and Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television, or Other Visual Media.
He also has two American Music Awards, a BET Award, 11 Soul Train Awards, and a number of Billboard Music Awards.
Kelly is even featured in the Guinness Book of World Records.
He won for the First Song to Debut the US Single Chart at Number One—that song being "You Are Not Alone," a track he wrote for Michael Jackson.

More is not Better - Duration: 0:58.
More clients is not always the solution to growth
This might confuse you, but stick with me.
Having more clients is generally what most people say to me is
their biggest problem. "I want more clients." The trouble with more clients is
it's more client relationships to manage. If you've got five good clients, that's
fairly easy to manage with one person. As soon as you go to 10 or 15,
very difficult for one person to manage more than five people meaningfully at any
given time. So if you're looking to scale your business and you think that more
clients is the answer, think again. More clients creates more headaches and you
have to have a bigger team in order to manage them and give them the level of
service they want, need and expect. So you've got to think carefully about that.
Do you want more clients really or would you like to do more with the clients you have?
More on that in another video

Lisa Van Allen: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com
A new Lifetime docuseries about R.
Kelly is making headlines.
The six-part series, which will air beginning tonight, paints the singer as a "sex-crazed and abusive cult leader," in the words of TMZ.
It will feature people coming forward with new allegations about Kelly's sexual, mental, and physical abuse of women.
Kelly's lawyer, Brian Nix, is threatening to sue the network, saying he will file a federal lawsuit if they don't pull the plug on the docuseries.
Kelly, himself, has said that the allegations against him are the attempts of people he knows to gain their 15 minutes of fame.
One women who will speak out against Kelly in tonight's documentary is Lisa Van Allen.
What should you know about her? Read on.
She Says Kelly Filmed Their Sex Acts.
Musician R.
Kelly attends his and Tyrese Gibson's birthday celebration on January 10, 2018 in Woodland Hills, California.
In tonight's docuseries, Lisa Van Allen will come forward with allegations against R.
Kelly, saying that she was "instructed to call him 'Daddy' during sex." She goes on to say that he filmed their sex acts without asking for her consent to film.
In a 2017 magazine feature, Van Allen says, "Robert would film our sex acts sometimes.
He would never ask me if it was OK to be filmed, but he never hid the camera or anything like that.".
Van Allen Says He Restricted Her Access to Family Members.
Along with filming their sex acts, Van Allen says Kelly prevented her from talking to her family members, and acted as a "go-between" for phone calls between her and her mother.
On tonight's docuseries, Van Allen says, "The first time Robert [Kelly] had me do sexual acts with him and another female, he actually told me it was going to be his first time and he wanted to do it with me… He would say things like 'If you love me, you won't try to change me.
If you love me, you'd accept me how I am.
If you love me, you'll do these things for me.' Those would be his little pep talks he'd give me.".
Van Allen's accusations mirror those of Kitti Jones, who quit her job to move with Kelly after they started a relationship.
She says that after being together for some time, the abuse began.
The Dallas Observer reports Jones as saying that Kelly would continuously slap her.
She also said that she had to ask him if she wanted to use the restroom, and stand when he walked into a room.
She Is Not the First Person to Speak out Against the R&B Singer.
A number of women have come forward with allegations of sexual abuse against R.
Kelly.
One of those women is his ex-wife, Andrea Lee, who says that life married to Kelly was "horrible.
" Drea tells People that her former husband pushed her so far she even contemplated suicide.
She says of hitting her low point, "At the time I didn't know there was such a thing as spousal rape.
He'd tried to lock me in the bathroom.
I remember being ready to jump off the balcony of our hotel suite and commit suicide.
Thank God I didn't.
After that I said, 'I'm done.' In 2004 I called my dad, packed my bags and left with our kids in the night.".
In May of this year, two more women spoke out for the first time against Kelly.
Their stories were reported by Buzzfeed.
The first woman, Lizzette Martinez, said that her relationship with R.
Kelly began when she was just 17-years-old.
She says Kelly took her virginity and knew she was underage when she did so.
The other woman, Michelle, is the mother of an alleged abuse victim.
Michelle told Buzzfeed that her daughter was involved with Kelly when she was just 17.
The R.
Kelly Docuseries Includes over 50 Interviews.
Surviving R.
Kelly includes over 50 exclusive interviews with appearances from John Legend, Sparkle, Wendy Williams, and civil rights activist Tarana Burke.
What does Van Allen want viewers to take away from the docuseries? When she appeared on The View, Van Allen explained, "Awareness.
I wanted to raise awareness.
I want to help someone else's daughter, I always say that.
I hope that the girls that are there will get strength from this, by, from watching this.".
She continued, "You know, it's crazy, it's really crazy because people don't understand when you're out of that situation, it still goes on with all of us.
All of these girls are like still dealing with what they dealt with.
No matter how long you were there.
You take it with you.".
Asked if she has heard from Kelly since the trial, she said, "No… We do know some of the same people in the industry, but no…".
She Described R. Kelly as 'Evil'.
During her appearance on The View, Van Allen described R.
Kelly as 'evil', saying, "Well, R.
Kelly is great.
I'd have to tell them about Robert.
That's who's the person that's pretty much… a pedophile.
And he's evil, you know.
You gotta watch out for him.
How did Van Allen meet the R&B singer to begin with?.
She was just 27 when she was hoping to secure a role in his 1997 music video "Home Alone".
Van Allen, according to The Chicago Defender, says she went into his trailer, where she and Kelly spoke briefly and they had "intercourse".
They then exchanged phone numbers, and she visited him in Chicago.
Van Allen went on to appear in the "I Wish" video, and even had a role in his 1998 tour.
According to the Chicago Defender, he would pick Van Allen out of the audience at the end of each show, and they would have "simulated sex.".
The series will air tonight at 9pm ET/PT, Friday at 9pm ET/PT, and Saturday at 9pm ET/PT on Lifetime.

New Diagnoses [CC] - Duration: 11:12.
Hey guys, so I am actually terrified to make this video and I don't really know
why...so first to distract from that, let's look at my outfit I'm wearing a dress
it has a petticoat and a top hat it's great and I love it!
OK, as some of you probably know because I think I mentioned it, besides
struggling with physical chronic illnesses, I also have some mental stuff
going on. I have already kind of addressed this but if you didn't know I
have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and major depressive
disorder for... I think I got the diagnosis is diagnosed these two years ago maybe,
but I've definitely had them for longer. Recently however I have gone back into
therapy and I got to new diagnoses so yeah, hi I'm Meg, I'm 21 and I have PTSD
and ASD. Yeah okay I want to reiterate here that these diagnoses are nothing to
be ashamed of I just feel a little bit awkward because I am still not quite
used to broadcasting all of my health issues onto the Internet... even though
that is the entire point of this channel which is why I am making this video. So,
let's get on with the acronyms because if you are not someone who is into
mental health or knows anything about mental health you might not know what
those mean. First off, PTSD stands for post traumatic
stress disorder and I've got the National Institute of Mental Health
website up here on my iPad so I'm just gonna be reading some more scientific
definitions and things like that I'll link it down below, but if I keep looking
down that's why. So PTSD, post-traumatic stress disorder: The
overview thing says PTSD is a disorder that develops in some people who have
experienced a shocking, scary, or dangerous event, it is natural to feel
afraid during and after a traumatic situation fear triggers may fear
triggers many split-second changes in the body to help defend against danger
or to avoid it. This fight-or-flight response is a typical reaction
meant to protect a person from harm. Nearly everyone will experience a range
of reactions trauma yet most people recover from initial symptoms naturally
those who continue to experience problems may be diagnosed with PTSD
people who have PTSD may feel stressed or frightened even when they are not in
danger... hmmm looking at the signs and symptoms of PTSD it says you must have
at least one re-experiencing symptom, at least one avoidance symptom, at least two
arousal and reactivity symptoms and at least two cognition and mood symptoms.
Re-experiencing symptoms include flashbacks, bad dreams, and frightening thoughts.
Avoidance symptoms include staying away from places, events, or objects that are
reminders of the traumatic experience, avoiding thoughts or feelings related to
the traumatic experience. Arousal and reactivity symptoms include being easily
startled, feeling tense or on edge, having difficulty sleeping, and having
angry outbursts. Cognition and mood symptoms include trouble remembering key
features of the traumatic event, negative thoughts about oneself or the world,
distorted feelings like guilt or blame, and loss of interest in enjoyable
activities. Obviously I experienced most of these which is why I got the
diagnosis. I'm not going to go too deep into it because this is pretty personal
for me... I have actually experienced a fair amount of trauma in my life. I
personally think the initial PTSD was triggered due to repeated emotional
abuse but I can't say that for sure and I would rather not go any farther into
it so... I'm not. The other diagnosis I mentioned is something I'm much more
comfortable talking about: ASD is autism spectrum disorder, so
autism. I don't know why I keep going yay... but wait yes I do I suspected having
both of these disorders for years but to finally get confirmation just a few
weeks ago honestly was pretty nice. So autism spectrum disorder let's see if
I can sum this up so according to the dsm-5 which is the Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, people with ASD have difficulty with
communication and interaction with other people, restricted interests, and
repetitive behaviors. Symptoms that hurt the person's ability to function
properly and schoolwork in other areas of life. It is a spectrum disorder
because there's a wide variation of the type of severity of symptoms that people
occur...wait, that can occur or that people experience, my apologies. Um
signs and symptoms: People with ASD have difficulty with social
communication and interaction, restricted interests, and repetitive behaviors so
these ones I'm actually just going to read the ones that relate to me because
there are a lot and I don't want to read all of them. So social communication
interaction behaviors may include making little or inconsistent eye
contact, failing to or being slow to respond to someone calling their name or
other verbal attempts to get attention... this happens sometimes, because of the
PTSD I also have an increased startle response so basically I will either not
hear you calling me repeatedly if I'm reading or something... or I will jump out
of my skin and possibly scream so that's fun. Having difficulties with the
back-and-forth of conversation, often talking at length about a favorite
subject without noticing that others are not interested in or without giving
others a chance to respond, having facial expressions movements and gestures that
do not match what is being said, having an unusual tone of voice that may sound
singsong or flat in a robot... robot-like... Fun fact, those past two I only noticed
when I started making videos. So I would make a video and I would think
that I was emoting properly and showing, you know, emotion in my voice and in my
face and then I would go back to caption the
video and realized that my voice sounded fairly monotone and that my face didn't
really show expression and I'd be like... well that's something. Restrictive
repetitive behaviors may include repeating certain behaviors or having
unusual behaviors for example repeating words or phrases of behavior called
echolalia, having an in lasting intense interest in certain topics such as
numbers details or facts... if you ever want to know anything about foreign
languages or world religions I am your girl! Ah let's see here getting upset by
slight changes in a routine, being more or less sensitive than other people to
sensory input such as light, sound, noise, clothing, or temperature. If you ever go
to a movie with me I will habitually pick a seat that is on the edge of a row,
close to a door, because when I was a child the sound used to physically
hurt me so much that I would have to run out of the theater. I actually spent a
really long time being terrified to go into movie theaters because of this,
because it hurt too much, basically. People with ASD may also experience
sleep problems and irritability. And although people with ASD experience
challenges they have many strengths including being able to learn things in
detail and remember information for long periods of time. Fun fact, I used to be
able to recite parts of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows from memory. Being
strong visual and auditory learners and excelling in math, science, music, or art. I
guess I'm making this video to just try and show that you can have these
disorders and still be quote unquote normal or live a healthy life... I am going
to school, I am an adult, I'm living on my own etc etc. There's no reason to be
ashamed of it... I know I'm acting kind of awkward in this video and, well, that's
because I am awkward, but if you have any disorder any mental disorder or physical
disorder don't... please don't in any way feel like you have to feel ashamed of it.
I mean sure autism makes things hard for me sometimes like really hard but it's
also pretty cool that some of the stuff I can do I'm not gonna
I'm pretty cool mm-hmm mm-hmm no seriously though,
um it's weird, but it does give you talents and I don't think that should be
discounted. And for those of you without ASD, PTSD,
GAD, MDD, any other of the plethora of mental illness acronyms out there, I urge
you to think about people that have them as people and not just the disorder
because I think it's really easy to try and classify someone by shoving them in
a box and saying okay they have autism that's it, that's all they are, and I
think I'm a good example of someone to say that that is not in any way true...
that you can have one disorder, you know four disorders, you can have, hell you
can have ten disorders, I don't care and you're... you're still a person you know
you're not just a label or a bunch of labels that make up person, if that makes
sense. You know that meme that's like I'm not a person I'm five mental illnesses
in a trench coat... that's not true you are a person, you know, you have your own
likes and dislikes and so do i and so does everyone and this doesn't make
sense, but I'm real vulnerable right here right now so excuse the lack of...
coherency. I'm trying... I guess what I want to know is what do you guys want to know?
What kind of videos do you want to see from me, now that it's a new year? Do you
want more EDS videos, more POTS videos, more autism videos, more mental illness
videos in genera...?l Do you want more fashion videos because clearly my
fashion is on point? Do you want um... I have a video coming up about dungeons
and dragons really anything you want just let me know in the comments. Like
and subscribe if you want. I hope I'm interesting enough that you
would want to and as I said in the description I will link the site
that I was reading from the mental health site I'm completely blanking on
the name, but yeah I hope you had a great New Year's and whatever winter holiday
you celebrate if any and I will see you guys soon. Bye!
