Hi, I'm Dr Janelle Sinclair.

In today's video we're going to discuss the natural antidepressant 5-HTP, and the effective

5-htp dosage for depression.

I'm going to outline the right way to take 5-HTP covering what it is, how much to take,

when to take it, common side-effects and how to avoid them, as well as drug interactions.

If you haven't met me before, I'm Dr Janelle Sinclair, I've got a PhD in biochemistry and

I'm a natural medicine practitioner who specialises in mental health.

And on this YouTube channel, you'll find practical videos discussing effective and safe natural

therapies for depression and anxiety.

Make sure that you stick around to the end to find out about how long it normally takes

to respond to 5HTP, and what to do if you're already on an antidepressant medication.

And if you're new here, consider subscribing and hit that bell button so that you're notified

about our new weekly videos.

Let's begin, and discuss a little bit about 5HTP- what it is, and what is it used for?

5HTP stands for 5-Hydroxytryptophan

It is naturally produced by the body, and is made from the amino acid tryptophan.

5HTP converts into the happy and calming neurotransmitter serotonin.

Serotonin is then converted into melatonin, the sleep hormone

Because 5HTP can increase both serotonin and melatonin levels in the body,

that is why it is effective for both depression and insomnia.

Small studies suggest that 5HTP is as actually effective as standard antidepressant medications.

5HTP has been used clinically for over 50 years, and the conditions that it's commonly

used for include depression, anxiety, insomnia, fibromyalgia, headaches, and obesity.

This video is about using 5HTP for depression, so let's discuss the effective dose, when

to take it and how to avoid side-effects.

5HTP is a simple supplement that can be purchased from a pharmacy, a healthstore or online.

It is produced commercially by extracting it from the seeds of the african plant Griffonia

simplicifolia.

It is absorbed very well when taken orally, with 70% of the dose getting into the bloodstream.

But before I tell you how much 5HTP dose to take for depression, if you are already on an antidepressant

medication I want you to promise me that you will watch the next section on drug interactions.

Okay? Good.

The most common starting dose of 5HTP for depression is 50mg three times per day (usually

at breakfast, lunch and dinner).

If you struggle with poor sleep you may want to take the third dose before bed.

If you haven't seen an improvement in your mood after 2 weeks, on 50mgs three times per

day, increase to 100mgs three times a day.

Some studies have used up to 250mg three times per day, this is safe but it isn't a common practise.

Also keep in mind that 5HTP can help reduce anxiety at doses around 150mg, but at doses

above 225mg per day it seems to worsen anxiety symptoms.

5HTP can be taken either on an empty stomach or with meals. It really doesn't matter.

Some people think that the other amino acids in food will interfere with the uptake of

the 5HTP into the brain, however this isn't the case.

5HTP easily crosses the blood-brain barrier, as it does not require a transport molecule to do this.

One side effect of 5HTP is that if you take it with meals it helps to increase satiety,

that is- you feel fuller quicker.

So 5HTP can be helpful for weight management and appetite control.

That's a great side-effect isn't it.

5HTP does have some other side-effects, but these can be avoided or reduced if you follow some simple guidelines.

The most common side-effects include nausea, stomach upsets, headaches, insomnia and palpitations.

The severity of these side effects are usually dose dependent and are also related to how

quickly doses are increased.

So start at the lower dose of 50mgs three times a day to avoid these

And if you're someone that is very sensitive to supplementation in general or you get these

side effects straight after starting the 5HTP, then I'd recommend you just start on

50mgs once a day, and work up slowly from there.

Is this all making sense to you?

Give me a yes in the comment section below if it is.

Now let's move on to consider any potential interactions between 5HTP and medications.

The interaction we need to worry about is combining 5HTP with medications that increase

serotonin in the body.

Because both the 5HTP and the medications increase serotonin, there is a risk of

serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders.

These medications include tramadol, a common pain killer, and antidepressant medications

including SSRIs, tricyclic and atypical antidepresants.

You may know these are citalopram, fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline, amitriptyline or clomipramine.

If you're unsure check with your doctor.

While some people take 5HTP while they are reducing their antidepressant medications,

I suggest that you only do this with the guidance of your health practitioner.

So if you're on an antidepressant medication already,

I don't think 5HTP is the best option for you.

There are lot of other natural supplements for depression, that can be used at the same

time as you're taking antidepressant medications.

I'll discuss that in a moment.

But first I promised you that I'd tell you how long it takes for most people to respond to 5HTP.

Well 5HTP actually works quite fast, and a large majority of people experience some improvement

in as little as 3-14 days.

If you don't feel a lift within 2 weeks, increase your 5HTP dose as I suggested earlier.

And if after 6 weeks on 5HTP you haven't experienced an improvement I would personally recommend

that you consider a different avenue.

Rather than taking lots of different natural supplements for depression on a trial and

error basis, my approach is to rule out and then treat naturally any underlying

biological causes for depression or anxiety.

For example, if we find you have a nutrient deficiency that can cause depression, we can

use a mineral or vitamin to treat it.

If you find a hormonal imbalance, herbs or natural hormones can be used.

If a blood sugar imbalance or a gut dysbiosis is found, we can use diet and supplements

to treat these factors.

I discuss these imbalances and how to treat them a lot on this YouTube channel.

If you find that 5HTP doesn't work for you, you're already on an antidepressant medication

or you want a more personalised approach, then I suggest that you learn more about the

biological causes of depression and anxiety. I've created a playlist on that topic here.

There's an overview video, and also information on vitamin D deficiency, zinc deficiency,

gut health and I'll be adding more videos to it over time.

And if you've found this video helpful, like it and share it with a friend.

Thanks for watching and I'll see you in the next video.

class:-4 Undo single or multiple steps & History panel.(learn Photoshop in basic English language) - Duration: 4:54.

Photoshop gives you lots of flexibility to change the edits that you make in

this video we'll explore how to undo redo and step back in time as you're

editing you can follow along with this file from the practice files for this

tutorial or an image of your own let's start by making some paint strokes on

this image select the brush tool in the tools panel then go over to the swatches

panel and click on a color there you can use any color that you like move into

the image and make a brush stroke by the way if your brush tip isn't big enough

go up to the options bar for the brush tool click on the brush picker and set

the size there I'll click off of that picker to close it let's make a couple

more strokes go to the swatches panel again select another color and stroke

and let's do that one more time so let's say that you want to get rid of the last

action that you did in Photoshop in this case making that pink stroke the quick

way to do that is to use a keyboard shortcut command + Z on the Mac or ctrl

+ C on Windows which I'll do now and the pink stroke goes away I can bring it

back by pressing command + C again or ctrl + C again so that keyboard shortcut

is a toggle for undoing and redoing the last action that you took if you prefer

to use a menu command rather than the shortcut you can go up to the Edit menu

and there you can choose undo and Photoshop even tells you what action

you're going to undo and then edit and redo now what if you want to undo more

than just one step in that case go up to the Edit menu and this time choose step

backward and you can do that up to 50 times by default and each time your

stepping back one action one step in time similarly

you can step forward one step at a time edit step forward edit step forward

edit step forward there's one more way that you can step through time in

Photoshop and that's using the history panel the history panel is located here

in this collapsed column of panels if you don't see it go up to the window

menu and choose history I'm going to expand this panel by moving down to its

bottom bar until I see a double pointed arrow and then dragging down so what we

see in this panel is a separate bar for each action that I just took on this

image open and then three strokes with the brush tool keep your eye on the

panel as I make another stroke my fourth stroke was just recorded in the history

panel - now let's use another tool to see how it's recorded

go to the tools panel and this time select the dodge tool which is used to

make things lighter the Dodge tool also has a brush tip just like the brush tool

to make the Dodge tool tip bigger go up to the options bar for this tool and

there you have a size slider that you can drag and then click in a blank area

to close the brush picker now come into the image and let's drag over the leaf a

couple times each time I release my mouse and then drag again another Dodge

tool state is recorded here in the history panel the beauty of having these

states in the history panel is that you can step back through them one by one

like this or you can jump to a particular state like this and each time

you do that everything in the image changes to the way it looked at that

state at that point in time you also can step forward or jump forward in time in

the history panel like this two things to keep in mind about the history panel

if you do go back to a previous state let's go back here and then you do

something else let's say I dodge in this area of the image keep your eye on the

history panel and you'll see that everything after the state I'd gone back

to disappears it's as if you went back to a fork in the road and took a

different path everything on the first road beyond the fork disappears and the

second thing to keep in mind is that when you close the image whether or not

you save it your history disappears the next time you open the image the

history panel will be cleared out and we'll start again with a fresh history

now if the history panel isn't your cup of tea you can rely on the simple

commands in the Edit menu instead undo for single undos and step backward for

multiple undos either way you have lots of flexibility to correct any mistakes

or try new approaches as you edit an image

How To Make Fried Rice Easy - Duration: 4:58.

hi guys today we will learn how to make fried rice the main ingredient is rice

basically you can use any kind of rice to make fried rice for chinese-style we

usually use jasmine rice because it has very nice fragrance so I have cooked one

and a half cup of rice loosen the rice which will make the cooking process

easier you can either use freshly cooked rice or left over rice as long as the

rice is not too soft or moist actually using freshly cooked rice will make the

fried rice more aromatic keep the stove in high heat during the

whole process as we stir fry all the time heat up the wok

add a 1 teaspoon of oil we gonna stir fry the vegetables and

meat first for the oil I like to use peanut oil because it has high smoking

point which is good for stir-fry and also it has very nice nutty flavors

which goes very well with the fried rice here I have 1/2 cup of onion stir-fry

for 30 seconds to release aroma basically you can use any vegetables you

want just see what you have left in your fridge and then use them I also have a

cup of mixed vegetables combine it with the onion and stir fry for about 1

minutes to release aroma then set aside I also have some ham left in the fridge

so I gonna add it in the fried rice as well you can use any kind of meats you

like just remember to dice it or cut it into

thin slices to ensure that it will be cooked through in the brief cooking time

then set aside great now it comes to the main part we gonna stir fry the rice

heat up the wok and then add about 2 tablespoons of oil we need a bit more

oil so that the rice will not stick on the wok spread the oil around the wok

to make sure the cooking surface is coated with oil and make sure the oil is

really hot so that the rice will not stick on the wok you see the smoke

coming out from the wok so it is good for stir frying then we add the eggs

here I have 3 eggs every 1/2 cup of rice we use 1 egg we have 1 and 1/2 cup of

rice so we use 3 eggs when the eggs is half cooked then we add the rice

then we quickly mix the uncooked eggs with the rice to make sure each pieces

is coated with some eggs it takes around 1 to 2 minutes

you see now the rice has got golden color each rice is coated with some eggs

it's beautiful isn't it if you find the rice still sticks together use a spatula to

press the rice then stir-fry again do it a few times then should be more loosen

keep stir fry until you can feel the texture of the rice get drier and also

you can smell very nice aroma from the rice it takes a few minutes

bring up the rice and shake a bit it should look like raining and that means they are not

sticky to each other then it is good if you want to have it more crunchy or

crispier you can stir fry for a bit longer time for me now the texture

is perfect here comes to the last step combined with the vegetables and meat

add some soy sauce when we add the soy sauce we add it from the side of the wok and

then combine it very quickly stir fry for about 1 to 2 minutes to let the rice to

absorb all the flavors from the ingredients

then this is ready very easy isn't it you don't need any special skills at all

to make very good fried rice at home thanks for watching please like this

video and subscribe my channel I will see you next time
