Onimusha Remastered: Capcom's Hidden Gem Is Back, Why You Should Be Excited - Duration: 6:45.Capcom is finally remastering one of its best and most overlooked games of all time, Onimusha
Warlords.
This series, created by Mega Man mastermind Keiji Inafune, was huge back in the PlayStation
2 days.
Believe it or not, Onimusha was selling just as much, if not, more than Devil May Cry,
hence why we got four Onimusha titles in the span of five years.
But since the last entry in the series, 2006's Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, the franchise has
disappeared for some strange reason.
Capcom opted to instead invest time and resources on Resident Evil, which is understandable,
and Devil May Cry instead, completely tossing aside Onimusha's critical and commercial
success.
Onimusha Warlords was really the first great PS2 game consumers could buy.
The remaster is coming out on January 15 for all major modern platforms, and it'll feature
improved visuals, analog support, and a few other new neat features.
It's exciting to see the franchise back from the dead.
If you're not all too familiar with Onimusha, the best and most simple way to to describe
it is to basically call it Resident Evil with swords.
But granted, it's so much more than that and remains an original game series unlike
anything out there, even today.
The game centers on samurai Samanosuke Akechi and his friend, ninja Kaede.
The game switches between the two characters in important story moments.
You have to rescue Princess Yuki from the clutches of mysterious demons that have been
popping up in feudal Japan, where the game is set.
And so, you travel to Inabayma Castle and its surroundings, where most of the action
takes place.
It's basically the mansion in Resident Evil 1, a huge level filled with puzzles, locked
doors and levels, enemies to battle, and more.
Onimusha sports truly fantastic level design.
The way you progress through the game, finding more powerful weapons, keys and tools to unlock
areas, and the way the game introduces new and more powerful enemies is brilliant.
Remember, the game was made when Capcom was firing on all cylinders, when the studio was
at its peak.
Onimusha features metroidvania level designs, forcing you to constantly backtrack and look
for clues you otherwise might've missed on your first time exploring.
Every area is beautifully detailed and diverse, and the game's unique art design is a great
complement to the metroidvania style of gameplay.
We don't get many games set in feudal Japan, where you play as a samurai.
Granted we're now soon getting stuff like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Ghosts of Tsushima,
so the games industry is trending towards exploring this time setting.
But Onimusha was one of the first to do, and as a result, it's still highly original,
as I've mentioned.
There's a great dark atmosphere to the game.
It's moody, somber, and the soundtrack definitely helps in capturing that certain type of mood.
The way you level up in the game is also, once again, another original feature.
Main character Samanosuke has this gauntlet, granted by the twelve oni, which allows him
to absorb the souls of your enemies, which are depicted as floating red orbs.
You use these orbs to strengthen your truly awesome weapons.
In the first game you use three, a thunder, fire, and wind sword all with their own fighting
styles, strengths, and weaknesses.
The fire sword for example is the slowest one but the most powerful, while the wind
sword is weak but quick and nimble.
The enemy designs are also all diverse and gruesome looking.
Not only do you battle a wide variety of normal enemies, there are also a handful of tense,
memorable, and well designed boss battles as well.
I still remember some of these encounters, including a battle that takes place on the
rooftop of the main castle you're exploring.
The best thing I can say about Onimusha is that nearly every single aspect of the game
comes together brilliantly.
Everything works in harmony.
The pacing is fast and goes along well with the level design and emphasis on exploration.
The sword-based combat, which is much slower than Devil May Cry, requires strategic planning
when going up against the game's many great boss fights.
And while the actual story isn't anything to write home about, it's bolstered by the
atmosphere and art direction.
There's also an in-depth dungeon called the Dark Realm which is notorious for its
high difficulty.
Players have to battle waves after waves of increasingly difficult enemies in order to
acquire a powerful weapon.
It's totally optional, but also totally worth the extra effort.
Capcom followed the first Onimusha up with four sequels.
Onimusha 3 is a highlight in my opinion, featuring time travel, more ambitious design, and even
renown actor Jean Reno as one of the main playable characters.
Capcom was able to expand the franchise's interesting mythology with the sequels, and
they all feel different despite retaining much of what made the first game so great.
It'd be nice to see the other three titles get a remaster as well, which I'm sure we
will if Onimusha Warlords does well enough.
It's great to see a fantastic dormant series make a return, and here's hoping we might
finally get a new Onimusha game in the near future.

Success Starts Here - Duration: 4:17.- How many times in your life have you found yourself
with a big problem to solve?
And, it might be something that's happening right now.
Life is full of puzzles and problems
that we have to overcome.
And when we are faced with a puzzle or faced with a problem
we have to handle, we are taught to seek outside ourselves
and go and find something that we're gonna use
to fix the problem.
But then that creates a whole new problem, doesn't it?
Because what if you don't have the things you need?
What if you don't have the time?
What if you don't have the money?
What if you don't have the connections?
What if you don't have the skills?
What if you don't have what you need to actually solve
this problem that's creating so much resistance
and so much pain in your life?
What do you do then?
This is when it's very easy to start to tell a story
of, I don't have enough.
I don't have what I need to solve this problem
so I guess I'm just gonna deal with this problem.
That creates another story that there are other people
who have what they need, and they don't have problems.
You can tell any story you like.
And at the end of the day, it's less important what's true
than it is what's useful.
Is it useful to tell a story that there are others
who have more than we do, others who have more than you do,
and that it's not fair and that they shouldn't have it
and you should?
Is that really a useful story to tell?
I'm not suggesting that that might not exist.
But ultimately, you right now where you are,
you have the ability to make choices.
And you can choose to tell the story of scarcity.
You can choose to tell the story that you don't have enough
and that might well be the case right now,
but it doesn't have to stay that way.
And there are plenty of examples
in this world of people who went from not having
the resources to finding out a way to create them.
There are plenty of examples in this entire beautiful planet
that we live in of people who went from having nothing
to making it.
And you know what that means?
That means that if one person did it,
that means you can do it too.
Instead of telling a story that there are those others
who have what you need, why not allow yourself
to simply experience a pause?
Allow yourself to experience the moment of taking stock
of what you do have.
You've got eyes to watch this video.
You've got ears to hear these words.
You've got a mind to analyze and to think.
You have a heart to desire.
You have a soul or spirit or energy,
whatever it is that animates us while we're here.
You've got a lot going for you.
If you'll give yourself credit for how far you've come.
If you'll actually take stock of all of the resources
that you do have, and then the resourcefulness
that's inside of you, the ambition, the ability to think,
the ability to learn, the ability to grow,
if you've got that, that's really all you need
to go from where you are to the best next thing.
You don't need to know the whole plan.
You don't need to know all the steps,
you just gotta know what the next step's gonna be.
And I would suggest that the first step is
to start telling a story of enough.

Get Rich Quick: What You Should Know - Duration: 3:17.Winning the lottery, wouldn't it be great,
and solve all your problems?
Actually, no, here's what you need to know
about this and other get rich quick schemes.
(upbeat music)
You probably know them, that friend that's convinced
that their latest direct sales project
is going to help them make it big.
Or maybe it's that family member
whose retirement plan is hoping they hit the lottery.
The truth is get rich quick is a lie, and here's why.
First, the law of sowing and reaping.
You can't get out what you don't put in.
If you plant an apple seed, will you get pumpkins?
Or if you deposit pennies, will you get back millions?
It just doesn't work that way.
The universal law of you reap what you sow
doesn't just apply to farming or gardening.
It's the way the world is built,
and every time you strive against this law,
it will ultimately be an exercise in futility.
Second, money isn't the answer.
Personal finance is 80% behavior and 20% math.
Most people who win the lottery big
end up ruining their lives.
This is because money is simply an amplifier.
It amplifies the character of the one who holds it.
If you're a jerk, you're going to be
an even bigger jerk with more money.
If you're irresponsible,
you'll be reckless with lots of money.
Without wealth habits already in place,
more money will certainly lead to more problems.
Thirdly, you must be a fool.
Most get rich quick schemes prey on your emotions
and mislead you into something that's over-hyped
and unrealistic, yet sounds so good.
A fool hastens to build wealth,
but a wise man understands
that you can't skip the real process.
So don't buy into the hype and put yourself
in a position of playing the fool.
Fourth, wealth is built through wisdom.
Luck has almost nothing, if not nothing, to do with it.
Understanding and realizing opportunities
that come your way requires wisdom.
Wisdom is only gained through experience,
and experience takes time.
This is why most get rich quick schemes
prey on the uneducated and down and out in our society.
You need to read, study, learn from others,
and know how to ask good questions.
Your ability to sniff out a con will be essential
to not getting sold up the river.
And lastly, wealth is not the goal.
The ultimate goal should not be wealth,
but rather financial freedom
which brings peace of mind and more.
Wealth can provide that, but it's not the goal.
At the same time, the process
of building wealth is a journey.
Be like the tortoise and posture your life
to be consistent over time.
The ability to be content and manage what you have,
no matter how much or how little, is where true riches lie.

Three Reasons to Learn Relative Adverbs - Duration: 5:44.From VOA Learning English, this is Everyday Grammar.
In an earlier program, we talked about the relative pronouns who, that, and which.
We promised to give you more details about how to use relative clauses.
In this episode, we look at how the relative adverbs where, when, and why are used.
Let's take a look at how relative adverbs work.
An adverb is a word that describes a verb, an adjective, another adverb or a sentence.
It is often used to show time, manner and place, or degree.
The relative pronouns where, when, and why act as adverbs when they join sentences or
clauses.
Take these two sentences:
This is a swimming pool.
I used to swim in the pool.
Notice how you can put the sentences together with the word where:
This is the pool where I used to swim.
Another way to say that is "This is the pool in which I used to swim."
That is a formal way and is usually only found in writing.
We use the relative adverb where to show the place of an action.
The relative adverb when tells about the time of an action.
Let's look at an example from The Logical Song by the rock group Supertramp.
When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
... And they showed me a world where I could be
so dependable, Clinical, intellectual, cynical.
The singer says that life was wonderful when he was young.
Later, he uses another adverb to show the world where he could be dependable.
A more formal way to say that would be "They showed me a world in which I could be dependable."
We often want to tell the reason for an action.
This week, President Obama visited Alaska (see our article on his hike up a glacier)
and talked about melting ice.
So much ice is melting in Alaska, he said, that sea levels are rising quickly.
Here's how he put it:
"The pace of melting is only getting faster.
It's now twice what it was between 1950 and 2000 -- twice as fast as it was just a little
over a decade ago.
And it's one of the reasons why sea levels rose by about eight inches over the last century,
and why they're projected to rise another one to four feet this century."
President Obama made one sentence from these two ideas:
Ice is melting very quickly.
Sea levels rose about eight inches in the last 100 years.
His speech has another clause with a relative adverb that combines these ideas:
Ice is melting very quickly.
Scientists predict that sea levels will rise even more.
The words "the reason" or "the reasons" often appear before the relative adverb why, but
sometimes they are left out, as in President Obama's speech: "... and why they're projected
to rise another one to four feet this century."
Are you ready to try some sentences on your own?
Put together these sentences with relative adverbs:
The coffeehouse is in my neighborhood.
He got a job in a coffeehouse.
Is your answer like this?
The coffeehouse where he got a job is in my neighborhood.
Here's another one:
I got home from work.
I saw the dogs playing in the yard.
One way to put these ideas together is,
I saw the dogs playing in the yard when I got home from work.
Finally, let's put these two sentences together.
The dogs frightened the cat.
The cat ran up the tree.
Combine these ideas as:
The dogs are the reason why the cat ran up the tree.
You will sometimes hear that instead of why after the word reason as in,
The dogs are the reason that the cat ran up the tree.
We leave you with Earth Wind and Fire singing Reasons
I can't find the reasons But my love for you it won't disappear
Can't find the reasons, why I love you, my baby
I'm Jill Robbins.
