Cary Moon: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | CaCao TV - Duration: 12:36.

Cary Moon: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Over the past 15 years, Seattle mayoral candidate Cary Moon has been better known for her activism than for her political ambitions.

But the urban designer and landscape architect surprised many when she placed second in the city's top-two primary election in August.

Moon has famously battled her way through City Council and state legislators in search of a solution to the crumbling Alaskan Way Viaduct that no longer blocks human access to the city's waterfront.

While she may not have gotten exactly she wanted, the state Department of Transportation ultimately opted for a hybrid plan that incorporated many of Moon's proposals with plans for a deep-bore tunnel through downtown that is currently under construction.

Despite this success, Moon has battled accusations from her rival, former U.S. Attorney Jenny Durkan, that she is underqualified for the job.

And while Moon has admitted her resume is somewhat unconventional, she is adamant that her civic experience and time with her family business has more than prepared her for the position. Here's what you need to know about Cary Moon:.

A Native of Michigan, Moon Is a Landscape & Urban Designer Whose Family Owned a Manufacturing Business.

Raised in Buchanan, Michigan, Moon moved to Seattle almost two decades ago, founding the landscape and urban design firm Landscape Agents (Moon is the sole employee), which won a city contract to do the neighborhood plan for Pioneer Square.

Prior to her move to Washington, Moon had helped run her family's business, Pro-Tech Respirators, an industrial respirator manufacturing firm, before the family sold the business in 1995 for about $10 million.

Along with her brothers and sisters, she inherited about $1 million of that payout in 2014 after both her parents passed. Additionally, Moon serves on the boards of the Progressive Alliance and the One City Advisory Board.

She holds a BS in engineering from the University of Michigan, and a master of landscape architecture and urban design from the University of Pennsylvania.

She Is Best Known for Her Work as Director of the People's Waterfront Coalition, a Group That Blocked the Construction of a New Freeway on Seattle's Waterfront.

GettyThe Alaskan Way Viaduct winds past downtown Seattle, Washington to Qwest Field October 24, 2009. The viaduct, which was constructed in the 1950s and carries 110,00 cars a day, is slated to be replaced by a deep bore tunnel.

The Alaskan Way Viaduct is a split-level highway section of State Route 99 built in the 1950s, which runs along the waterfront through downtown Seattle.

In 2001, a magnitude 6. 1 earthquake rocked the Pacific Northwest, damaging the highway and the supporting seawall.

Though the Washington State Department of Transportation poured millions into emergency repairs, engineers recommended that the viaduct be replaced after concluding that the structure had a 1 in 20 chance of failing in the event of another severe earthquake.

Over the next few years, the WSDOT considered a number of proposals for the project, eventually settling on a $4. 1 billion six-lane, split-level tunnel in 2004. The same year, Moon co-founded the People's Waterfront Coalition with activist Grant Cogswell.

The coalition proposed that the viaduct not be rebuilt with the aim at maintaining or increasing its traffic capacity, but instead to redirect traffic, increase mass transit, and create a walkable neighborhood along the waterfront.

The proposal stemmed from existing emergency measures that WSDOT employed whenever the viaduct had to be closed for any reason, but critics said that lowering the corridor's traffic capacity would have disastrous effects on gridlock.

Over the next several years, a series of hybrid replacement proposals were put before Seattle voters due to the strong opposition to the cut-and-cover project.

In 2011, voters finally approved a two-mile, deep-bored tunnel that will run beneath downtown in addition to a demolition of the viaduct.

The project also includes a new, one-mile stretch of highway at the southern entrance to the tunnel, and a new surface street along the waterfront connecting SR 99 to downtown Seattle.

Moon's advocacy of a surface/mass transit alternative to the initial cut-and-cover tunnel plan is widely credited with turning the tide of public opinion and City Council support.

She has since won The Stranger's Political Genius Award in 2007, made Seattle Magazine's list of Most Influential People 2006, and won the Municipal League's Citizen of the Year award in 2009.

Her Resume Has Drawn Criticism From Her Opponent, Who Claims She's Not Qualified to Run the City.

Moon has called her work history "weird," and that of a "gadfly and urban thinker. "Like a lot of women, my resume is not packed with full-time jobs because I had obligations as a single mom," she told Crosscut.

"When you have such family obligations, you don't always have specific full-time jobs.

I took advantage of the fact that I inherited money and that I was married to someone who makes enough money for both of us to do a deep dive into public service.

Her rival, Jenny Durkan, has criticized her lack of management experience, saying that Moon is unqualified to run a city with an annual budget of $5.

But other public figures have pointed out that former mayors, like Ed Murray and Charley Royer, came into office with little to no management experience.

"My experience with managing people directly was through my family business, which was not 10 years ago," said Moon during a candidate forum at the Seattle Rotary Club.

"I did a lot of collaborative work through progressive organizations in the city in the past 10 years and the collaboration of the People's Waterfront Coalition. Moon Is Worth About $4.1 Million and Has Self-Funded About Half of Her Campaign.

According to her financial disclosures during this election cycle, Moon is worth about $4.1 million. Her family owned an industrial respirator manufacturing business, where she worked during the early 1990s.

Shortly after her tenure with the company, the family sold it to a large French company in 1995 for about $10 million, according to Moon (SEC documents place the sale at $6. 8 million, but Moon has sad that number does not include employee buyouts).

Upon her parents' death in 2011, Moon received a $1 million inheritance.

Her husband, Mark Reddington, is one of eight partners at LMN Architects, which Glassdoor lists as pulling in between $10 and $25 million in annual revenue. The couple live in a $1.8 million condo near Pike Place Market.

Of the $323,273 Moon has raised for her campaign, $174,169 of it has come out of her own pocket as of October 26. Her opponent, Jenny Durkan—who is wealthier still than Moon—has criticized her for self-funding her campaign.

"We are both very wealthy women, Cary Moon and I," she said during the Rainier Valley Radio debate (Moon is an urban designer).

"The one thing I haven't done with wealth is fund my own campaign … I've put $400 in. She's put hundreds of thousands of dollars in," Durkan claimed. Moon has responded by disparaging what she calls Durkan's corporate sponsors.

A PAC funded by corporations like Amazon and Comcast recently donated $525,000 to campaign on Durkan's behalf, independently of Durkan herself. Moon's Husband, Mark Reddington, Is a Prominent Seattle Architect, Which Might Require Her to Recuse Herself From Some Key Decisions If Elected Mayor.

Moon is married to Mark Reddington, a partner at LMN Architects, with whom she has two teenaged children. According to his professional biography, Reddington has won "over 120 awards including national and international awards for architecture, urban design and sustainability.

He leads projects in all market sectors including convention centers, performing arts, education and transportation and brings a strong focus on enhancing the public realm through design excellence.

Reddington is currently involved in the expansion project for the Washington State Convention Center, which has raised concerns about conflicts of interest should Moon win the mayorship.

Executive Director of Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission Wayne Barnett told Seattle Weekly that Moon would have to recuse herself should a conflict of interest arise.

"It's time to bring back transparency and the highest level of ethics to the Mayor's office," said Moon, indicating she would do whatever necessary to maintain the ethical integrity of the office.

The couple's two children attend Seattle Academy, a private school. "The [public school] option we were offered was in Wallingford.

There was no way I was going to make that trip twice a day to get my kid to school," Moon explained during a speech at a senior living facility.

"And so we weren't offered an option that worked for our family and we had the ability to go to private school.

We wanted to stay in the public school system but like a lot of families we weren't offered a choice that worked for us.".

Parkersburg Fire at Old Ames Warehouse: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | CaCao TV - Duration: 7:49.

Parkersburg Fire at Old Ames Warehouse: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Officials are still trying to determine what materials are in the warehouse and how local residents' health might be affected from a huge fire at an old Ames Tool Plant in Parkersburg.

The fire began burning on Friday and although the main fire was put out on Saturday, crews have still been extinguishing continued hot spots all week, AP reported. Wood County officials said they don't know exactly when the fire will be completely out.

Anyone with respiratory problems are smell sensitivity is still being asked to stay indoors. The Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department, however, recommendedeveryone remain indoors if possible, with windows and doors closed, until they can't detect any smell.

If there's a smell in your area, don't run the AC or heater if you can avoid it. DuPont Does Not Own the Warehouse.

The old Ames Tool Plant is owned by Intercontinental Export Import Inc. (IEI). Polymer Alliances Services and Intercontinental Export Import are part of a SirNaik group of companies — a waste management company.

Many posts shared on social media have incorrectly said that DuPont owns the warehouse, but this isn't accurate.

DuPont Co. told the Gazette-Mail that it's not affiliated with the former Ames warehouse. However, Intercontinental Export Import did purchase products from DuPont's Washington Works plant and was storing those products at the warehouse.

The City Still Doesn't Know What's Burning in the Warehouse. It's not known exactly what materials are in the warehouse, the Charleston Gazette-Mail reported.

A state of emergency was declared on Monday to help with the firefighting and environmental tests. Records that might have indicated what was in the warehouse were destroyed in the fire, but officials are looking for electronic records that can help.

Possible items that might have been in the warehouse include PVC, nylon, carbon black, titanium dioxide, fiberglass, formaldehyde, Teflon, and styrene. IEI provided an outdated data sheet to officials that listed previously stored materials.

Today, the Department of Environmental Protection ordered IEI to immediately provide a detailed inventory of the materials in the warehouse, along with their plans on how they will properly dispose of the debris.

Residents Are Still Asked to Stay Inside. Residents said their cars were covered in ash and some people were suffering from asthma attacks.

On Thursday, residents nearby had been told to take shelter in their homes and if they're in an area where a smell is detectable, they should try to stay indoors with windows and doors closed, keeping the AC and heater off if possible.

Air quality testing found that although there were visible soot particles, there were no detectable levels of chemicals in the smoke, AP reported.

Officials did say that local drinking water was safe because it's sourced from aquifers, not a stream, according to Lawrence Messina, communications director for the West Virginia Fire Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety. Schools in the Area Are Still Closed.

Closures and relocations are still happening because of the fire:. WVU Parkersburg's main campus will be closed through Friday 11 p.m. because of the fire.

the MOV Comfort Case Donation Drive for today was moved to Sunrise Baptist Church Community Education Classes are canceled for Thursday and Friday The ACT exam for Saturday is being rescheduled.

Nest Fest dress up days and chili cook-off are being rescheduled for Oct. 30-Nov. All Wood County Schools are in a Code C closure through Friday. New air filters are being installed so classes might be able to resume on Monday.

Officials Warned about Dangers at the Warehouse in 2008, 2011, & 2012. Officials have been warning about the potential for a large fire at the warehouse for nearly a decade, the Charleston Gazette-Mail reported.

Two volunteer fire chiefs in Wood County complained to the state fire marshal about the potential for a blaze in 2008. You can read their letter here from July 22, 2008.

When discussing the PAS Warehouse at #7777 Broadway Avenue in Parkersburg, WV, they wrote:. This warehouse has many of the same concerns as listed above.

The Lubeck VFD was called to the site for a fire recently, and could not even access the fire due to boxes stacked along the exterior of the warehouse, closing the alley.

Since the time of the call, they have begun working on the exterior portion of the site… We are unaware of the conditions inside concerning the sprinkler system, but at that time, it was not functional and in disrepair.

An inspection of the site would be necessary for the safety and welfare of our firefighters.

Our primary concern is that there will be a fire at one of these two warehouses, and there will not be enough water to fight a defensive fire… Boxes stacked too high, and inefficient sprinkler could kill firefighters working interior….

Firefighters on the scene are finding some of the same issues written about in the letter, the Gazette-Mail reported.

However, Lawrence Messina, communications director for the West Virginia Fire Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety, told the Gazette-Mail that when the agency inspected the warehouse in 2008, the sprinkler system was working.

He said it's not known what the sprinkler system's status is today.

The state Department of Environmental Protection visited the warehouse in 2011 and 2012 and found the same kinds of problems, including the lack of a groundwater protection plan including materials stored at the warehouse. The warehouse owner, IEI, was ordered to pay almost $61,000 in fines.

Featured Webinar: How T&T Motors used Email Archival & Ediscovery to control data leakage - Duration: 52:04.

Good afternoon friends, my name is Ashok Malaviya, and I am from Mithi Software Technologies.

I welcome you all, for this webinar.

Now In this webinar, we will be talking about the fundamentals of email archiving, how Vaultastic,

a true SaaS solution can help, how Ediscovery can be used as a supervision tool.

We have a customer, Mercedes Benz, we have somebody speaking from there.

Then we will also be having a person from Amazon, who will be joining in for this webinar.

And the last would be the question and answer session.

So let's get started, let's set the perspective right.

The most important thing we are trying to answer over here is, that, as you all know,

email data is something that is very very important and that needs to be secured.

I mean, it is no rocket science to know this, that email that, I mean there is a lot of

important information stored in email.

It could be financial information, market related information, administrative information.

Now this information, needs to be secured, that is it needs to be kept in a safe deposit.

Now generally what people do, most of the people or most of the corporate's or enterprises,

they would take a backup of this email data.

This is what most people do.

Now in this particular method, there are certain limitations when you just take a backup of

email.

First and foremost, the hardware that you use, or the storage that you use for backup

is not 100% reliable.

The second thing is, that in between backups, if there is some information that is deleted,

it is lost forever, the third point is, that when you want to retrieve a particular mails,

or when you want to retrieve particular information, then the entire backup needs to be restored,

and then only you can search and find.

Now this is a very cumbersome process.

Now by using Vaultastic, an archival solution for email systems, all these problems are

solved.

What is email archiving?

Email archiving is a process, by which a copy of every email which is sent or received,

is stored in a separate vault, or a separate storage.

That is what email archiving means.

Every mail which is transacted, whether it is sent or received, a copy of that is kept

separately in a vault.

The trend today, I mean this particular slide basically talks about, how much email, is

used nowadays for our day to day communication.

So 60 % of all business critical information is stored, like I mentioned earlier, on an

average, 4GB is the average annual growth in a user's archive account, a user would

typically send close to 126 messages.

This is an average, so there is a whole lot of information which is getting accumulated

in your mailbox and there is a lot of important information which is there on your mail.

So this what, this thing talks about, because email is a primary mode of communication for

all businesses.

Now why should you archive an email.

I mean this is again, a very obvious thing.

It is a digital economy and data is very valuable, and that needs to be secured.

The second point, why you need to archive email, 60 % of critical data is in email,

which we have already discussed before.

The third reason why you really need to archive email is that, you also need to ensure that

the company is maintaining certain compliance's and if there are any disruptions in mail,

it should not affect your business.

The old method, as I mentioned, of taking a backup, either locally or on a server, or

storing that, those things are actually all again, we will come to how, one by one how

archival actually helps you.

Now the fifth reason why you need to archive email is that your data security is very important.

Like I mentioned, security of data is very very important and you need to maintain business

continuity.

In Vaultastic we are offering data durability of 99.99 (11 times).

Again why should you archive email?

Migrating large volumes of email data has become very challenging.

For example, let's say you are using a particular email system and Tomorrow you need to change

that.

Now there is a lot of accumulated email storage that you have already got in your system.

Now to migrate all that data into a new system becomes very very cumbersome.

If you have an archival account and if all the mails are already secured in archival,

then the data transfer becomes very easy, or you need not even transfer or migrate all

the data.

Because it is already present in your archival account.

It improves your performance, again what we are saying is that the best practices in world

say that your primary mailbox should be very small.

You should not have mails more than 6 months or 1 year.

Rest all the mail, should be put in archival.

So keep your primary mailbox small which will definitely enhance your overall performance.

Now this is a chart that explains ho email archiving actually works.

As I explained earlier, basically the way email archiving works it, it uses the journalling

feature of the mail server.

So before the mail is sent to a recipient, a copy of that, a copy okay, it is not the

actual mail which is sent to the vault, but a second copy is made and this goes to a separate

mailbox or a separate storage.

Now this slide talks about why should you have email on the cloud.

Vaultastic is basically an email archival solution on the cloud, so now we are talking

about why you should have an email archival solution on the cloud.

First of all, you do not have to worry about the infrastructure, there is no need to buy

expensive hardware and provision it, your initial investment is very low.

What you get on the cloud, is again, very robust, high performance and scalable platform.

Like I said, reliability is 99.9 (11 times), so it is close to 100 %. This is a slide which

talks about that.

No infrastructure required, naturally if you are on cloud, you don't need any infrastructure.

Now why Vaultastic?

Why specifically Vaultastic?

There are some archival solutions in the market also, but why particularly Vaultastic.

First it is a true SaaS based solution, what we mean by SaaS is, first it follows the principle

of cloud, where we say that you pay as you go, in the sense that you don't pay in advance.

Like for example if you are having an in premise archival solution, you would have to provision

for 1 or 2 years, or 3 years or 4 years and buy that huge hardware or huge storage and

it doesn't get filled on the first day itself, it will take 3 or 4 years to fill, but you

have already made the investment for the entire storage.

In Vaultastic what happens is that you're paying as you go along, as you use storage

you are paying and that is why we have 4 different plans for that.

Second most important thing is that Vaultastic is self service, DIY.

This is again extremely important, because if you look at it, in any corporate, the IT

team is already over pressed or already over worked with a lot of other IT functions and

if they have to do the work of retrieving mail or retrieving mails from the archival,

it becomes a big burden on them.

So what we have done, is that we have given you a self service portal, by which a user

can himself, search through his archival account, retrieve mails from the archival account,

forward it from his archival account.

The only thing which is not allowed is that he cannot delete the mail.

So the user can do it himself, so huge jump in productivity.

The third point is, no infrastructure required, because it is a cloud based solution.

We have very strong SLAs, when you sign up for Vaultastic, you also get is backed by

SLA and very strong data integrity, which means that nobody is actually looking at your

data, it is all encrypted, so you need not be worried about the security of your data.

This is continuing on the same point that the security is guaranteed and in fact there

are lots of certificates and certifications which we can provide, specifically for organizations

like banking, government organizations, or ever for corporate's in general.

They are very careful or very choosy about this.

Their data needs to be secured and we have all the security infrastructure in place and

like I said it is tamper proof.

Once the mail goes into archival, it cannot be deleted.

It is kept in encrypted format, there is role based administration, strong audit trails,

so a lot of security features are in place, to see that your data is secure and nobody

else can tamper with it.

As I mentioned earlier, it is an in-line email archiving solution, that means that, it's

happening in real time.

As soon as you send a mail, a copy of that mail is sent to vault.

As soon as you receive a mail, a copy of that goes to the vault.

So there is absolutely, unlike in backup, where backup happens between two periods right,

so if you are taking backups at every hour, in between two backups if somebody deletes

a mail, it is gone.

In email archiving it doesn't happen like that.

You are continuously, your mail is getting backed up.

Another reason why we should choose Vaultastic is that, it works across all email software,

across all, I would say standard email solutions like O365, MS Exchange, Zimbra, Google Suite,

Mdaemon, in premise or on cloud.

So Vaultastic works for all email solutions.

All our plans come with unlimited storage, so you need not worry, it is not like 2GB

or 5 GB or 10 GB or 100GB.

All plans with unlimited storage.

This is another very interesting feature that we have, in fact a lot of very common query

that we get is that I already have a lot of mail data, so if I move to Vaultastic, how

do I transfer all that data.

So one way, that amazon provides, is that you can use Snowball and by which, you can

actually, physically transfer all your mail data, from your in premise location to the

cloud to Vaultastic in one shot.

So Snowball is one of the features provided by Amazon which we use, which makes it extremely

easy.

The other methods we use is that we have .PST export.

.PST is one of the most common formats used by Outlook, Microsoft, or you can have your

data in .EML.

So you can export them in .PST and transfer them to Vautlastic, upload them on Vaultastic.

Like I mentioned earlier, again, we have 4 plans for Vaultastic and you can pick and

choose, or you can choose a combination of any of the 4, depending on your requirement.

Ediscovery, now this is a very important feature, which we will be discussed even by our customer.

What we are really saying is that, let's say that you want to search across mailboxes,

then it is possible by using Ediscovery feature, you can do that.

Let me give you an example.

let's say I am the sales head, and there are 5 people who are working under me, now

I want to search all the mails which was sent by a particular customer, let's say Amazon,

to all these 4, 5 people.

I want to see all those mails which were transacted.

Now by using Ediscovery feature, I can actually search across mailboxes and search for that.

This is again a very very important feature when it comes to where you need to really

monitor what kinds of mails are being sent or received, specially in case of audits,

when you want to search for a particular mail, which could be a particular kind of mail,

from a domain, or from a particular email id which could have interacted on several

mailboxes.

So you want to search across mailboxes and get a birds eye view of all the mails that

were transacted on a particular topic.

You can do that.

This is a very interesting feature.

Again something like Ediscovery will not be possible if you are using a plain backup solution.

Ediscovery cannot be done.

Diving a little deeper on what is Ediscovery, it is a powerful index search across archive

mailboxes.

You can find any information, no matter how old, in seconds.

Leverage all the accumulated data to drive decisions and gain insights.

This is interesting because let's say you want to take a particular decision, you want

to do some analysis, what are the kind of responses you have been getting, the marketing

team want to, the marketing head wants to analyze, what is the response that has been

coming, or do any kind of analysis, he can put in queries in Ediscovery and get all the

content from different mailboxes in one shot, and he can read that and he can analyze and

take decisions.

And as I said this is also required in audit and compliance, when your accounts are getting

audited, information is getting audited.

Especially for compliance reasons, Ediscovery becomes a very very important tool.

Again, explaining a little bit more about Ediscovery queries, you could have queries

like Show me all mail sent by Rohit to external domains, which contain a pdf attachment.

Or show me all mails sent in April, May whatever.

Show me all communication between two people for the last 7 years.

Show me all mail where an attachment contains contract.

So these are just 4 common examples, but you can have as many queries as you like and narrow

down your search.

Important thing to remember here is that it is searching across mailboxes, it is not searching

only through one mailbox, so that is what Ediscovery is.

Real Ediscovery use cases, again analyzing quality of communication, you want to see

how your team is communicating, whether their quality of communication is good, bad, needs

to do some improvement.

Automated breach discovery, common issues reported to customer support.

let's say when you have a customer support team and you need to analyze what is the most

common questions which are being posted by customers, you can have that.

All proposals sent out to prospects, so basically it is a monitoring tool.

Ediscovery allows that the leader or the person who has been given this role, can actually

analyze, can do a lot of analysis.

Can you imagine doing this on each and every mailbox it is almost an impossible task.

Another thing is all GST related in and outs.

These are just examples, you can pick any topic and go with that.

Some more information on the company, we have won few recent awards from Amazon, CIO review

and all those things.

Some of our core partners include names like Trend Micro, Amazon, Redington is one of our

distributors and Mithi has 4 products.

Vaultastic is what we are talking right now.

Other than that we also have ClrStream which is a security based solution, Ideolve which

is a collaborative App and SkyConnect which is and email and collaboration application,

again all of them are on cloud.

These are some of the examples, some of the logos we have acquired over the last 6 to

8 months and you can see that these are across sectors, across sizes and some very interesting

names that we have today.

One of these will be speaking to you today.

So we will be having a question and answer session after the two more sessions that we

have lined up for you.

Now we will be playing the video of the customer which is be followed by another video which

we have already recorded from Amazon and post that we will have a question and answer session.

So now the customer will be speaking to you.

Good afternoon everyone.

Thanks for introducing me and inviting me to speak about our experience with Vaultastic

and specifically how email archiving and Ediscovery has helped us prevent data leakages and remain

audit compliant.I do apologise that due to some last minute change in plan, I will not

be present in person for the webinar, and am therefore, sending this recording of my

presentation.

To get started, let me tell you a little about T&T Motors.

We are the largest dealers of Mercedes-Benz vehicles in Delhi/NCR & Rajasthan, India.

T&T Motors has the most spread out service facility in the luxury car segment in the

country with the most advanced machinery coupled with the highest availability of spare parts.

With exclusive retail business in these markets, we are well positioned to satisfy customer

demands in Sales & Service.

World-class facilities enable a competitive team to get ahead of others in customer enhancement.

Being a retailer cum full-service automotive dealer, we offer a myriad of automotive products

and services.

The products available include tyres, batteries, alloy wheels, oils, accessories and genuine

parts for cars.

As T&T Motors is a sales oriented company, we have a lot of leads such as customer leads

for vehicles, customer inquiries etc that come through various portals or through walk-ins.

Once customer inquiries are received, the emails are distributed to the respective sales

person.

All sales people, communicate with the clients over email.

Our biggest challenge was managing these leads without any data or information leakage.

In order to prevent any data leakage, a blind carbon copy of each outgoing mail, for example,

customer follow-up, price offerings etc was sent to the respective manager in charge,

who monitored each outgoing mail to verify and confirm that no data had been leaked.

However, on average, each of our manager's receive 50 BC copies in their Inbox per day,

which was making it difficult to supervise accurately, along with increasing mail traffic

and affecting primary mail storage.

There was also a chance of deletion of mails by sales representatives or manager's either

intentionally or accidentally which could lead to legal disputes over Warranty, Accessories,

Service-Manufacturing fault etc with customers.

A second challenge we faced was storing of emails for audit and compliance purposes.

As per company laws, we need to retain all Government communication Mails/MCD approvals.

In addition we also have to store all principle communication between company departments

(accounts, Purchase, Sales) as well as the communication between sales representatives

and customers.

We were therefore in need of a solution that would capture and store all the emails on

a separate platform, for easier monitoring as well as retrieval whenever required.

After a lot of searching, we came across Vaultastic, from Mithi.

We took a demo of all the required features with Vaultastic and were happy to see that

it provided a complete solution for all of our challenges.

Vaultastic was deployed successfully, as per our requirement & expectation.

All our mails were migrated to the Vaultastic archival vault which has advanced & great

features such as speedily exporting all mails to a required format (e.g. pst) & keeping

a safe copy of all our mails.

Instead of having to view every BCC copy, our managers now use Vaultastic's ediscovery

feature.

They put in a simple query, every 15 minutes, to get their entire teams outgoing mails that

have been exchanged within the last 15 minutes and can therefore monitor all conversations

for the given day with greater ease.

As Vaultastic is tamper proof, we are no longer in fear of any mail conversations going missing.

This has come as a great benefit to our legal department.

They can now easily access an original copy of mail between the Customer & Sales Consultant

/Principle Company in order to verify that the communication is genuine should there

be any legal case related to discrepancies over what the sales team promised and what

the customers expect.

Vaultastic has provided us a safe copy of our mails (Both incoming and outgoing) & filters

for BCC.

Instead of having to constantly monitor the mails through BCC and cluttering employee's

inboxes, our managers can simply utilize Vaultastic's ediscovery feature with access to both incoming

and outgoing mails of all their team members.

Vaultastic with its easy search option has eliminated the need to copy and keep pst files

which is time consuming in term of indexing of mails to search for important mails.

In addition, with Vaultastic, query results can be exported in a CSV file.

Since Vaultastic is on cloud, the vault can be accessed from anywhere and at any time,

allowing our managers more flexibility, as they can monitor mails from within the office

space or outside.

With this I come to the end of my presentation.

I thank you all for taking the time out for this webinar and wish you all the best.

Thank you Mithi once again.

Thank you.

Mithi is a trusted partner as well as a customer that is using our storage services to deliver

value to their customers.

I will be spending the next few minutes to talk about the underlying services that Mithi

is incorporating into products such as Vaultastic, so that you can understand how these products

give you great value.

One of my favourite quotes is by Thomas A. Edison, which states "The Value of an Idea

lies in the using of it".

If we substitute the word Idea with data in an era where the data is just growing in leaps

and bounds, we end up with "The Value of the Data lies in the using of it".

This is a big challenge that is facing us every day, and it won't be going away anytime

soon, as the Data just keeps growing around us.

Data is only as useful as what you can get out of it.

With email archiving you are primarily concerned with backing up and restoring data and recovering

from disaster or local failures.

If you choose to use local storage solutions such as hard disks, network storage services,

SAN, USB etc, you are always dealing with the possibility of failure of one or more

of these devices from time to time and you have to continuously plan and administer these

services, to deal with the possibilities of failure and have a backup plan in place.

You may want to do multiple things with your stored data, including analysing data, looking

at data in warehouses, archive data for compliance purposes, run lines of business applications

that use this data and so on.

If you may not be aware, AWS began its journey more than a decade ago, starting with S3 or

simple storage service as we call it.

We have over ten years experience in providing enterprise ready storage services, and when

you look at what the storage services bring to you, they bring you platforms and solutions,

well tested and well architected means of migrating infrastructure, a storage ecosystem,

so today when you use Vaultastic.

Mithi is also a part of the storage ecosystem as Vaultastic in turn is integrated with Amazon

S3 and they also make it possible to consider hybrid cloud storage - A scheme where you

use storage that is not only on premise or in a data centre location but also use cloud

storage services.

So when you consider AWS storage it is not only a service, but also a combination of

these different things which we have been operating over a decade giving us many insights,

allowing us to make sure that these services are reliable for our customers.

Just so you are aware there are many different offerings that Amazon provides, In case of

Vaultastic, we are mainly concerned with Amazon S3 or Amazon Glacier which we refer to as

object storage services, in addition to this, we have other services, such as block storage

amazon EC2, shared file system storage and a number of other that help you work with

data in a batch mode, transfer large volumes of data to or from the cloud and other locations,

or streaming data where data is being produced at a high rate and volume and you want to

capture and persist this data Despite the fact that we have been operating for more

than a decade, we continue to innovate and introduce new features and services.

Eg.

In late 2016 we introduced AWS Snowball Edge, which is a device that you can order, it is

shipped to you, with a storage capacity of upto 18 terrabytes of data, and also has on

board computing facilities.

So you can not only copy data to be transferred into s3, but as you do so and as this device

is being shipped, you can perform computations on the data, if you need to process or compute

further analytics.

Similarly, earlier this year we introduced the file storage gateway, which lets you ru

a Virtual Machine where you can use NFS to connect to a file system mount which in turn

is actually backed by storage in S3.

While all these services demonstrate the richness of the platform, for now let us focus on S3

and how it is useful when it comes to archiving email data.

New features that we have introduced for s3 include, S3 object tags for the files that

you store in S3, cloud watch metrics that let you see the activity on the data that

you have stored and so on.

As sunil as highlighted, one of the characteristics that we are proud of is that the S3 service

actually gives 11 9's of durability.

This number is such an exceedingly high number, that once you put an object in S3 you need

not worry about losing this object.

How do we achieve this extremely high durability?

S3 is deliberately engineered as a service, so we can give this high durability.

When you first save or put any object in s3, we use regions which are infrastructure locations

all across the world.

At the moment we operate 16 regions globally.

Each region is a physical location that consists of multiple availability zones.

Availability zone is a term for one or more independent data centres, each of these centres

has redundant power, networking, connectivity, conditioning and so on.

This deliberate design with Availability zones and regions helps us and customers design

for and achieve very high levels of availability.

So when you first write any objects to S3, S3 will store multiple copies of this object

within multiple devices in different facilities across 3 availability zones.

So when you first give us data we make sure there are multiple copies of data and we make

sure you won't lose it.

The S3 service is over ten years old, and we still retain and will continue to retain

objects that were stored as long back as ten years ago when storage technologies, networking,

computing were all very different.

Because S3 is a service, internally what happens is that S3 has both a monitoring and self

healing capability.

This means that the service is inspecting all these multiple copies of the data to detect

any corruption.

If any corruption is found, we use the redundant copies of data to ensure that any corrupt

objects are restored to their original state and it is also in this way built to be automatically

self healing, resulting in high durability.

As mentioned earlier S3 has been in use for over 10 years, serving 100's of customers

storing billions of objects and exabytes of data.

An exabyte is a billion gigabytes of data.

We have multiple exabytes of data from multiple customers, it is the most durable and reliable

platform as has been acknowledged by observers such as Gartner.

S3 being a service provides high performance at a massive scale in other words, when you

want to store data into S3 you need not provision the amount of data you wish to store before

hand.

The service automatically gives you space for any amount of data that you wish to store.

Also when you wish to retrieve data, being a service, we are able to serve large number

of requests as it is API based and there are customers who routinely perform hundreds,

or thousands or even millions of API operations retrieving and putting data into S3.

Besides the API level of operations that you can use to retrieve and put data, there are

multiple other mechanisms for both bringing data into S3 and transferring data out of

S3.

So these include devices such as snowball and snowmobile, as well as mechanisms such

as transfer acceleration, which lets you upload large objects by taking advantage of what

is called cloud front or basically edge servers that are present in multiple networks across

the world.

S3 today globally is also the storage service with the most comprehensive fleet of security

and compliance capabilities.

When you put any data in s3 it is secure by default.

The data as it travels to and from s3 is protected by encryption and when the data stored in

s3 you have multiple choices to protect the data at rest, so you can opt for what is called

server side encryption.

This means that when you out the data, s3 takes care of encryption of data using a service

called KMS or key management service and in addition to the server side encryption you

can also choose to use client side encryption giving you two layers of protection.

Amazon ensures, that the operation of the S3 service is compliant with multiple data

security standards and there are independent auditors who validate that the operation of

the service, our infrastructure, our teams that make these services highly available

are following independent standards for accreditation such as BCI Compliance, Hippa, fedramp etc.

We have introduced services where you no longer need to perform the heavy lifting of ETL (Extract

Transform and Load) when you want to take data from S3 and bring it into a solution

such as a big data cluster in order to perform any analytics on it.

We have services that allow you to query data in S3 and this leading customers to create

data lakes in S3.

The broadest and deepest ecosystem globally, refers to our multiple partners and independent

software vendors which includes Mithi and This service gives you visualisation capability

when your data is stored in S3 and you can use tools such as Tableau, EMR, Hadoop, SPAR

etc to perform data analytics.

With this service, if you have data in S3, you can perform ad hoc queries on this data

without having to load it into a big data processing cluster or a data warehouse.

There is a temperature associated with data.

When Data is first produced or retrieved it is considered hot, and over time as the data

is accessed less and less it becomes warm or cold data which you are still required

to retain for compliance purposes.

So the companion service to S3, is called Amazon glacier, so you store data in S3 and

use life cycle policies so that after a particular point in time, data is automatically moved

to glacier.

This data can be retrieved at a later date, just as you do to retrieve data from an archive.

In addition to S3, you should think of all these other services from Amazon for migration,

bursting and tiering.

Migration is where you are considering moving workloads on to the cloud, Bursting is when

you temporarily require much larger capacity than you have and you do not wish to permanently

plan to increase your capacity to that extent and tiering is where you choose to operate

some part of you IT infrastructure, on premise or in a data centre and you supplement it

with storage, compute and other services in the cloud.

If you want to use S3 as a block device, or a file system, a more conventional service

that you are used to, then AWS Storage Gateway comes in use.

One of the modes of AWS Storage Gateway.

Using the file storage gateway you can have a bucket in S3 and you have a NFS or an SMB

based file mount to access the data in the bucket.

AWS by providing a reliable storage primitive, we are taking away all of the heavy lifting

and the headache around making sure that once you archive the email using Vaultastic, you

will never lose it as it is using a

highly available and durable service such as S3.

So with that we come to the end of all the three presentations and I hope you got some

important information, that we wanted to convey through this webinar.

So thank you once again for joining this webinar and we hope to connect with you again soon

in our next webinar or even you can write to us directly and our team will definitely

connect with

you

and answer with any queries you have or assist you

in any form required.

So thank you once again and

have

a

good day.
