Bisqwit's channels, Discord server, and much more - Duration: 5:33.

Good evening everyone.

Are you there?

I can't see anyone…

But that's because I am wearing black opaque contact lenses.

And I really can't see much anything at all.

My channel was recently visited by the recommendation fairy –

that spawned from deep within the engines of YouTube,

and because of that,

there are many new subscribers to my channel now.

I think it would be a good time –

to do a bit of an introduction, again.

I am Joel, also known as Bisqwit,

and on YouTube, I do videos about various topics,

such as programming, c++, science and technology,

mathematics, politics, religion,

old computer hardware, electronics, and gaming.

Mostly about C++ programming though.

Did you know, I actually have four channels?

This very video is on my primary channel, Bisqwit.

But I also have a channel called Bisqwit's Gaming,

or Bisqwit Plays.

On that channel,

I sometimes do gaming livestreams,

especially if they have nothing to do with programming.

For example:

Last year I streamed my blind playthrough of Life is Strange there.

I don't play games often,

but when I do, and I stream it,

then that is the place to me.

I usually also multi-stream them to Twitch at the same time.

Two years ago I made a video,

in which I explained what the banner on my channel means.

You know!

The one with the Philips test card.

Because the story involved a fair bit of context from Torah,

I added a warning to the video title:

"WARNING: Contains Bible stuff!"

And this made a lot of people angry.

Militant atheists, and also concerned fans,

commented on my video saying –

please don't begin doing Bible stuff,

or you will lose all your subscribers.

So I made a separate channel.

This channel is called Bible with Bisqwit,

or Mayim Mayim.

I have lots of plans –

on what I am going to do with that channel,

but right now,

the only two public videos on the channel –

are about Israeli Folk Dance,

something that has been a dear hobby to me –

for ten years and counting.

The fourth channel is called Bisqwit's Extra,

or ExtraBisqwit.

This is a sort of low-quality channel –

where I put various kinds of tests –

and other miscellaneous videos –

when I don't want them to clutter –

the listings on my main channel.

To make sure you get the most out from my content,

make sure to subscribe on all four of these channels!

Did you know that there are other communication channels –

besides the YouTube channel?

It's true!

First, of course,

you can leave comments on my videos.

Yes, even old ones.

I reply to all questions that are addressed to me,

whether they are on old videos or new videos.

The number of thumbsups on the comment is totally irrelevant –

for the purposes of getting me to see it.

If your comment contains a message to me, I will reply to it,

unless it's too difficult to understand –

or too rambling or complex –

that I mentally file it into some kind of "later" box.

But you should still thumbsup insightful and funny comments,

because that will affect how other viewers get to see it,

and because it will count as interaction –

that helps my video gain visibility.

Make sure you do not post it as a reply to an existing discussion,

but make it a new topic.

If you make a reply to the top comment,

chances are that I will not see it –

no matter how many thousands of people you get to thumbs it up,

because the /comments/ page for content creators –

only lists new comments, not new replies to new comments.

Sorry, that's just how YouTube works unfortunately.

Secondly, there is the Community tab on my channel page.

Did you know there is one?

It's right here!

That's where I post — sometimes —

updates and messages for my subscribers,

even polls,

and you can comment just like you can comment on videos.

Thirdly, I have a Twitter page.

My Twitter handle is RealBisqwit.

Twitter is where I post short updates and announcements,

but also sometimes day-to-day thoughts.

You can also have discussions there.

But here is the best thing: Discord.

Discord is a voice and chat service –

that is currently free-to-use.

On Discord, we have a server called YouTubeBisqwit.

On that server, you can find chat channels –

about my videos, about programming, about my other channels,

and about various topics.

You can reach me there almost every day,

although the best thing is –

that I am not the only person there!

You can also find there other fans of my content.

Often if you have a question in mind,

you don't need to wait for me to help you;

other people can also talk with you.

Just start a discussion on one of the channels –

and see who will chip in.

Finally I also have an e-mail address in my YouTube profile.

This is my personal e-mail address,

and is meant for personal messages.

I receive a lot of e-mail,

but if you feel like contacting me,

you can do so there.

Keep in mind that –

the more concise and clear your message is,

the better the chances that it will not end in the "limbo".

You can find all the links I mentioned –

in the video description, below.

Just click "show more" to expand the full description.

Make sure you also click the "bell icon" –

to receive notifications from new uploads.

See you again!

Bye!

Karma and Reaping what You Sow - Duration: 11:46.

In this video, we're going to talk about the question, "Is karma and the Christian teaching

of reaping what you sow the same thing?"

At first blush, they seem like they could be.

But are they really?

Hang on.

Here we go.

Now, my name is Charles Yerkes and thank you for joining me.

So, what is karma?

Well, in our society today, we tend to view karma simply a cosmic law; that is as a series

of punishments or rewards based on our actions, based on our own efforts and that's it.

I mean if someone is rude to you today, tomorrow we think that something is going to happen

to them.

That's happening to them because they've earned some negative energy.

You know, it may not be tomorrow maybe shortly.

But, we… the thought is, that if they do something bad today, they attract bad things

to themselves.

Similarly, if they as person do something really good and altruistic, say help somebody

who can't help themselves, then that person is going to get good things coming their way.

Because they've done good, they're going to attract good things, good things will happen.

That's Karma.

Good karma, good actions. Right?

Very impersonal, very cut and dried.

Based on my efforts I get similar things coming my way.

Now, to be honest, that is a watered down definition of karma.

Cuz karma comes from Hindu and Buddhist thought and it has everything to do with how

what you do, your own efforts, how that impacts your reincarnation.

When you come back in your next life are you going to be closer to the goal of enlightenment,

you know, or ceasing to exist?

If you're the Buddhist.

Or are you going to come back a few steps away from your desired end?

See, karma says if you do good things in this life, you're going to earn good karma and

you're going to come back closer to your end goal, to your enlightenment.

If you do bad things, you're gonna earn bad karma and you're gonna have to come back

and pay for that, three or four steps behind.

It is a cosmic law.

It cannot change.

There's no such thing as forgiveness, there's no such thing as mercy,

there's no such thing as grace in karma.

Karma is the judge.

This happens, very impersonal.

Now, is that the same as the Christian teaching of reaping what you sow?

So, you know, before we talk about any Christian teaching; I think it's very important for

us to remember what the source of all Christian teaching is, who is the source.

And the source of every Christian teaching is God himself.

Right?

And, if his teachings in the Bible are truly his words, are truly meant to instruct us,

then they must reflect who he is.

They must be pointed in a direction to get us to his goal.

And what is that goal?

Who is he?

Well, in the past couple videos we've talked about who he is, a relational God, and what

that entails.

Now, I'm not going to go into that very deeply now.

I will link to those videos in the description box below so you can, if you want to, take

the time to catch up with what we mean here and when we say a relational God, you can

do so.

But for now, I'm gonna simply say that it involves his desire to have a relationship

with us, his desire for us to love him and seek a relationship with him.

So, every teaching then that comes from the Bible needs to, in some way, point us to that

direct relationship; help make that relationship possible.

Right?

And where do I get my thought on this?

I get it from God himself, you know Jesus.

It is teaching in Matthew about what the two greatest commands truly are.

Because first, he gives the two greatest commands and then he says something rather profound.

So, the first command is to love God with your entire being, with all your thoughts,

with all your heart, with very essence.

And the second-greatest command is to love your neighbor as yourself.

And then, Jesus says something very interesting.

He says, and every other law ever given, every

command ever given, and so every teaching ever given hinges on, hangs on, has

its basis on the first two.

Which are to love.

So, every teaching that we are given whether it's obviously relational or not, and some

are more obvious than others, Jesus has just said they are all based

upon these first two commands, to love.

And love is always relational.

So knowing this let's turn our attention to the teaching of reaping what you sow and what

that means.

So, the teaching itself comes from Galatians, Galatians chapter 6 verse 7.

Do not be deceived that God is not mocked.

Which is an interestingly relational term.

Do not be deceived God is not mocked.

A man will reap what he sows.

Now, if I did not remember that God is a relational God wanting a relationship with us.

And if this verse stood by itself in Chapter 6, if that was the only verse in chapter 6

and had no relation to anything around it, then I could see where people would think

karma and reaping what you sow are similar.

But I do remember that God is a relational God and this verse does not stand in isolation.

In fact, if you look at just going back to chapter 5 verse 1 and read straight through

to the end of chapter six, it's easy to see that this is about choosing a way of life

that leads to a relationship with God.

Verse 8, for instance, of chapter six.

I mean, right after he says do not be deceived God is not mocked, you reap what you sow, he says,

Paul speaking here, if you sow to the flesh, to human desire, to human effort you will

reap corruption.

So, if you choose a way of life that is built on your desire and efforts only, you reap

corruption.

If, however, you reap… if you sow seeds to the spirit, you're going to reap eternal

life. The Holy Spirit will give you eternal life.

If that's where you invest your time and sow your seeds.

Well you know, that's all well and good but what does that mean?

You might ask.

Here is where we look back in Chapter 5 and we actually are given two great illustrations.

See, Paul it's talking about choosing a way of living, a godly life, of pursuing a life

that God would want based not upon our own desires and our own efforts.

Where we're doing everything we can and therefore merit and earn the right to enter relationship

with God.

But, we simply choose to accept what Christ has done, accept his love and choose to pursue

a relationship with him, allowing him to work all in us as we grow.

And he illustrates both of these very well and very vividly in chapter 5.

So, in chapter 5 verse 19 he talks about, he gives

us the illustration of what reaping to the flesh or to the human desire

and effort might look like.

You know, I'm gonna call this the fruits of the

flesh, just for fun.

And, as you read that, you'll see that it's not very good; it doesn't look very pleasant.

Choosing a way of life that is trying to live a godly life through your own desire and effort

doesn't end well.

Then, in verse 22, he gives us an illustration, an example of what sowing seeds to the spirit

might look like and what reaping from that would

look like and, what he boldly calls himself, the fruits of the spirit; patience, love, kindness,

and these are the hallmarks of the eternal life.

Which he later talks about in chapter 6 verse 8.

Two ways of life: a warning against trying to live a godly life on your own, isolated

from a relationship with God.

Thinking that you can do things and keep things and earn things so that you are the one in

control of it.

And an encouragement to accept that it is Christ alone and loving him and growing in

a relationship with him and allowing the Spirit in that relationship to move and direct you.

Two very different ways of life, very relational.

And these do involve the way of Christ by himself.

Involves forgiveness, grace, and mercy.

Three things that we saw are not present in karma.

So, back to our question.

Is karma and reaping what you sow the same thing?

The answer seems to be no they are not.

I mean, reaping what you sow is about learning to relate to Christ and a warning that not

relating to Christ leads to frustration, pain, and nastiness.

Relating to Christ is where love and kindness are all found.

Karma, we saw, is not about to relating to anybody.

It's about individual effort striving to reach an individual self-centered end.

They are nothing alike.

You know, so perhaps a more interesting question here would be, why would a relational God

who wants a relationship with us make use of a teaching

that tells us nothing about how to enter into that relationship?

That gives us no way to make that relationship begin?

Why would he do that?

That makes no kind of sense to me, if he were to do so.

Well, what do you think?

Do you think karma and reaping what you sow are the same thing?

I'd love to hear what you have to say.

My First Real Estate Flip and Tips For Beginners in Real Estate Investing - Duration: 6:18.

All right.

What's going on, everybody?

Actually, behind me is one of the first properties that I ever flipped.

It was on the corner.

On the top floor is a two bedroom, two bath condo that needed a lot of work.

It's a condo, so condos ... Even a condo that needs a lot of work is still manageable even

for a newer investor like myself.

I just want to tell you a couple things that I learned from doing my first deal, because

I know there's a lot of new real estate investors out there that still need to get that first

deal under their belt.

I'll tell you a couple quick tips.

Number one, if you look at the building it's not the biggest building, but it's not the

smallest building in the world either.

The way I found this deal was through targeted direct mail.

As a new real estate investor, that's going to be one of your best sources of leads.

The list that I was mailing to was absentee with high equity.

It was people that had owned the property for at least ... I think 15 years was my criteria.

I had sent them postcards.

It wasn't that many people in this building.

In fact, I had just done this area, so it was probably ...

People that probably met the criteria in that building might've only been, like, three or

four out of, like, 200 people or so in the building.

A first lesson is you need to be very strategic with your marketing.

If I had just marketed to everybody in the entire building I probably wouldn't have got

that many responses, just because motivated sellers tend to be high equity, absentee-owned,

pre-foreclosure, probate, eviction, tax liens.

Things like that, so the overwhelming majority of people are not going to be looking to sell

fast to a real estate investor.

That's okay.

That why we only market to potentially-motivated sellers.

There's plenty of places to get these types of lists.

You can get them on places like Alesco Data, Melissa Data, ListSource, and many other places.

Even the county records, the county courthouse.

Now, the second lesson is that you can flip pretty much anything, any asset that you find

at a low price that might be worth more.

If you find a good deal you can purchase it and flip it.

This obviously was a condo, but it works pretty similarly to a single-family house.

I've flipped single family houses, I've done condos, I've done townhouses.

I've even done land, so don't let that stop you.

I look at a condo deal pretty much the same way as I look at any other deal.

I would say, though, the most important thing when you're evaluating condos is that make

sure you're evaluating condos within the same building.

Because if you're new to real estate investing, and I remember I was looking at a condo deal

and there weren't too many [inaudible 00:02:14], so I started looking at other condo properties

around the neighborhood.

The thing to know about condos is that obviously there's so many different variables in each

building, so it's a little bit tougher to get.

That's why with condos you really need to be sure you're looking at the same building.

Even if you have to go back three or four years, look at from the same building.

Then, obviously , when you're looking at townhouses compare it to townhouses, single-family houses

compare it to single-family houses.

Make sure it's similar properties that you're comparing because I've seen some investors

...

It might be they're sending me a deal on a row house, but then they're sending me on

renovated single-family houses.

That's just completely different.

It's just not going to work.

The next lesson I learned was that you do not need money to invest in real estate.

I repeat, you do not need money.

I don't care what anybody tells you.

I've done a ton of deals without any money that ... Including this one.

All you do is you put it under contract and you assign the rights to a contract to a cash

buyer.

It's as simple as that.

Now, you can also do double closes and things like that, but for starters all you have to

do is put the property under contract and then have a cash buyers list of investors.

The best way to have a ... To build a cash buyers list is really just to go online, type

in we buy houses, find the we buy houses people.

You can also go on Linkedin.

Linkedin is great because you can just type in real estate investor and then just go to

your city.

You'll probably find, like, 500 people that are we buy houses, and then that can be your

cash buyers list.

Don't let not having money stop you.

Eventually what you want to do is you want to use these quick flips to build up more

capital so that you can eventually purchase.

Now I'm kind of doing more of a combination of the quick flips, as well as the longer-term

actually fixing it up and reselling, just because those are more profitable.

Those carry a little bit more risk, a little more time-intensive, but you can also make

a good amount.

The next lesson I learned is that you need to move quick, so with any type of rehab or

any type of fixer-upper deal, especially if it's off market, these deals do not last long.

If it's on the MLS they might be like, okay, we're doing a deadline like a week from now.

We're going to let 5,000 people take a look at it.

With off market properties you really have to move quickly.

If a seller, if a motivated seller, calls you from your direct mail, your online marketing,

whatever you're doing, you need to get out there and meet them in person if possible

or make them an offer as soon as possible.

I've missed out on deals because I didn't go there literally within an hour or two.

I waited until ...

One time I got a call on a Sunday afternoon.

Instead of meeting that seller at the property like he wanted me to, I was like, "Oh, I'll

just call him back on Monday.

I'm sure it'll be fine."

No.

Deal was gone, so you got to move quick.

Lastly, what I would say for doing your first couple deals is just don't try to make a million

dollars on your first couple deals.

Just focus on getting the deal done because I see too many investors that try to just

...

They think they're going to make 100,000 on their first deal, and you could.

You can do that, but focus more on learning before you focus on earning.

That's a Robert Kiyosaki quote.

I didn't make that up.

Basically just focus on getting the deal done.

With this deal, even though I had a pretty big buyers list, I just sent it to the top

investor in my area, like the number one we buy houses company.

I said, "Look, this is what I have it under contract for.

Would you give me this amount?"

They said, "Yep, that's a deal."

The top home buyers don't mess around.

They get the deals done, so for your first couple deals try to work with the top house

buyers because if I had sent it out to additional buyers I might've gotten a really high offer,

probably more than this company was offering me, but the likelihood ...

Because I didn't have a lot of experience and I couldn't really vet people I might not

know if they could actually close or not.

Once you do a couple deals you'll get a feel for it pretty quickly, but for your first

couple deals just work with the top buyers.

Don't try to make 100,000 on your first couple deal.

Just get the deal done.

That's the most important thing.

All right, so hope you enjoyed this video.

Get out there, do your marketing, evaluate your deals correctly, work with the top people,

and let me know once you do your first deal.

Please subscribe, please like, please comment if you have any questions on your first deal,

and I'll see you later.

All right.

Bye.
