With the New Year approaching so many people are setting goals and I'm gonna

tell you in this video video why I think New Year's resolutions don't work I'm

gonna give you some practical on setting a New Year's revelation getting a word

from God so you can have the direction and the motivation that you need to be

able to make your next year your best year coming up next hey everyone welcome

to Wednesday's with Crystal I'm Crystal Sparks I'm so glad that you are here on

my channel hey whether this is your first time here or whether you watch

every single week I'm so glad that you are here every week on Wednesday I put

out a new video and my channels purpose is this is to help grow your faith and

help equip you to accomplish your dreams and your goals this is week we are

talking about getting a New Year's revelation you are gonna love this

content let's jump into it a new year brings with it so much excitement and

just I don't know what it is about January 1st that always just fills our

heart with excitement for what God's gonna do anticipation of what new

opportunities will come and I want to talk to you in this video about just how

I get word and direction from God and that really sets up success for the rest

of my year you know when you read about New Year's resolutions you see so many

people that have set them in fact eighty eight percent of people fail at keeping

their New Year's resolution here staggering statistic of that is 80

percent fail at the keeping their New Year's resolution before February 1st

that's pretty big deal 52 percent said that they are confident that they would

be able to complete it so that's so sad so 52 percent at the beginning of the

year we're like I'm so confident I'm going to be able to do this and yet 80

percent by February 1st have already failed 23 percent say that they forgot

what their goals even were and so why I think New Year's resolutions don't work

I'm going to give you two reasons why I think New Year's resolutions do not work

and number one is they keep the focus on you they make it all about you it makes

it you usually make a New Year's resolution

thinking about the failures your inadequacy the areas that you came up

short so usually what people do is in December we start analyzing our life and

thinking about the areas that we feel like we failed and then we try to set a

goal to try to offset our weakness and the sad thing about that is we are

always going to end up being frustrated and stressed out when we live our lives

in that way see frustration will always come from

doing things that God has not called you to do

see I love in the Bible it talks about that the law empowers sin but grace

gives us the power the ability to overcome it so here's the thing is when

we make a list of things that were bad at you know what we continue to repeat

in our life the things that were bad at so I think the year's resolutions don't

work because number one we make it all about us and number two is we focus on

what we don't want so again we make the list of all the things that we don't

want and we set that as our goals instead of saying God what are you doing

in my life see your life is moving in the area that you focus and so we must

know our purpose and then do it on purpose

not know our failures and then avoid them at all costs no we need to know our

purpose and then begin to do those things on purpose see I love this quote

and I heard it from a pastor friend of mine pastor Laurence Neeson and he said

a new rhythm in a new year creates a new normal that will produce a new you I

love that so much I wanna say that again a new rhythm in a

new year creates a new normal that will produce a new you see what problem with

New Year's resolutions is we say them out loud we tell everybody in our life

and then we move on and just hope that things will work out differently now let

me just tell you that's that's foolishness because it just doesn't work

but a nears revelation is the new rhythm in a new year that creates a new normal

that will produce a new you so what is in ears revelation a news revelation to

me is this is a God spoken word and in that God spoken word

comes the power and the ability to accomplish it now I want you to think

about every person in the Bible that did great things for God they did it because

God called them to do it they didn't wake up one morning and think man I'm

gonna part the Red Sea I'm gonna leave over a million people

through the wilderness into a promised land they didn't just wake up one day

and think man at my old age I think what I'm going to do is see my wife get

pregnant know every single person that did something great for God they didn't

make a new year's resolution they didn't set goals around the things that they

felt like they were coming short in no instead they spent time in the presence

of God they heard God's voice and then they begin to act on what God said and

an ears revelation is just that it's you getting before God and saying God what

do you want for me for this next year Lord what are you speaking to my heart

into my life revelation 119 says this write down everything you see and hear

see a new years revelation is this is a God breathed word to our hearts that we

write down what we what we've seen and what we've heard so I'm going to break

this down really simple why think new year's revelations are important number

one it keeps you focused it is like your mission statement for the year it's

something that you keep before your eyes it keeps you focused here's the thing is

that whenever you're going maybe you're going from East Texas to downtown Dallas

the first step that you would do is put it in your GPS why because it's going to

keep you focused so while you're driving down the road and you're talking to your

friends and you got all this stuff going on you're listening to a podcast and

you're going down the road it's gonna tell you when it's turn gonna be time to

turn why because the GPS job is to keep you focused and your new year's

revelation does just that it keeps you focused you run everything that you're

about to do and every opportunity that comes across your path through that new

year's revelation so last year my word was go I remember the Lord spoke it to

me in December and I thought it was so silly of December of 2017 the Lord said

I want you to go in fact I was getting out of the shower and the Lord said

you're gonna go to the north south east and the west and I said god this is

ridiculous it is December I'd have anything on my calendar for next

year where you want me to go the only place I'm gonna go is North Dallas South

Dallas East Ellison West Dallas right it seems so silly but all year long I had

to work go and so I put it on my wall here in my office and everything every

morning when I begin to pray it's a god I think you that you called me to go

wherever you call me to go I'll go and you know what this entire year I've

flown more this year and gone to more countries more states than I have and

all the other years combined and I say that to say it didn't look like that was

going to happen when the Lord said it but when I began to attach that word to

my life it came with it with the power and the

ability to be able to accomplish it so it keeps us focused

I love whenever I was on a run back in 2016 I believe it was no sorry 2015 I

was out on a run and the Lord our church had just grown really quickly and on

that run the Lord said crystal this next year I want you to turn a crowd into

disciples turn a crowd into disciples he said

everything you do this year I want you to think about that so for the entire

next year that's all I focused on is turning a

crowd into disciples he told me GE a.m. I want you to gather equip and mobilize

my people and so the entire year you know what I did I had turning a crowd

into disciples I had that on the top of everything I did in every decision and

every opportunity that came across my desk I asked myself how is this going to

help us make disciples how is this going to help me be able to train up new

leaders and if the answer was I couldn't then I didn't take the opportunity see

that word from God kept me focused all throughout the year before we moved here

to a more City area to plant one church God told me crystals sometimes you're

gonna have to stay when it'd be easier to go and other times you're gonna have

to go when it would be easier to say see sometimes you get one word and then

sometimes God will give you a sentence but I would just boil it down to this

it's the thing that just won't get out of your heart a lot of times I think

what we dismiss is our conscience is actually God speaking to us and

sometimes we think it's going to I'm in this loud booming voice and

really truly it's just impression and so that impression is what keeps us focused

for the rest of year number two why I think New Year's

resolutions work ready and number two is it inspires us when times are hard and

inspires us when times are hard John 1520 says this Jesus is talking to the

people he said remember what I have told you and he goes on into what he said

see here's the thing is that whenever we get in ears revelation it inspires us

when times are hard it reminds us what God has said it tells us it to be brave

in the face of fear see the word go seemed like a foolish word when you have

nothing on your calendar you don't even look like you're gonna go on vacation

that year right but get at the same time it helped inspire me when times were

hard and you know what up until the very last month of the year

God had me doing just that going and so when you get a new year's revelation

it'll help inspire you when times get hard number three it keeps you focused

on God see a new years revelation should be so big that without God you can't do

it and that's what I love about nears revelation verses a New Year's

resolution is all about you and how you can do it a news revelation puts all

your focus on God and the dependency God unless you open these doors I'm not

going to be able to go anywhere God unless you help me I'm not going to be

able to turn a crowd into disciples and Deuteronomy 11 18 it says therefore you

shall lay up my word in your minds and hearts and in your entire being and bind

them for a sign upon your hands and as a forehead bands between your eyes see I

love that scripture so much because God's letting us know hey listen I want

you to have your my words around you everywhere you look I want you to see

what I've told you and why is he saying that because he wanted to make sure that

the people's dependency was wholly on him and that's why I put it on my wall

that's why I write it at the top of my journals throughout the year and that's

why I do those things why because I want to make sure I keep focused I want to

make sure that I'm inspired when times are hard and I want to make sure that my

whole trust in my reliance is only on God so hey I hope that you get

some time this week the best way to get an ears revelation from God is to get

alone with God get a pen and some paper get in a quiet place put your phone in

another room and just begin to ask God God what are you saying to me for this

next year God what do you want to do in this next year where are you taking me

what are you saying and I promise you this the Bible says that when we draw

near to him the he'll draw near to us and you'll see that God is a talking God

he's going to show up and give you exact Direction for this next year so hey I

We got a new horror trailer on Decemberween.

What a generous gift from Peele.

Alright, so this trailer starts off with the family in the car, going to the beach and

listening to the song "I Got 5 on It".

The kid asks what that means and the daughter tells him about drugs, but then the father

tells him,

"It's not about drugs, it's a dope song.

Don't do drugs."

Now I'm not really an affianado on hip-hop, unless we're talking about lo-fi, so I had

to look this one up, and according my research HE'S A LIAR.

The dad lied to his son.

About the meaning of this song.

But one of the things we've all been wondering about Us before the trailer came out, was

if this one is going to be more of a straight horror flick, or lean more towards comedy.

And it looks to be more on the serious side.

You've even got the son wearing a Jaws shirt, and not only that, but wearing it to the beach.

He's also got this Wolfman mask, I think that's what it is.

And the girl that we meet later is wearing a Michael Jackson "Thriller" t-shirt,

which of course, has a music video known for a depiction of a werewolf movie at the beginning.

Or maybe it's most known for spawning this meme now, but hopefully not.

So the son wanders off at the beach, encounters a spooky guy who's T-posing?

Dude you don't need to be t-posing, you already have blood on your hands.

But that's actually not the only point in the trailer that this happens, because the

son of the clone family is also seen doing it.

See, even horror villains can do it for the meme sometimes.

These dopplegangers of the original family, take over the house and they appear to be

evil versions of the main characters.

But in addition to this family, there is also a duplicate of this little girl, this boat

towards the beginning of the trailer is not the same as the one seen later on in the dark,

and when they're initially walking to the beach, their long shadows represent a dark

version of themselves.

Since they have a dark version of themselves, they may also be the next hit Nintendo franchise.

In fact, if you pause one minute and fifty-three seconds into the trailer, you can clearly

see Mario is standing there, holding hands with one of the doppelgangers.

This one's called scissors Mario.

The hand-holding is also seen in this classroom scene with a bunch of stick figures holding

hands on the chalkboard.

The handprints here below the chalkboard are reminiscent of a Kindergarten art project

type of thing, but in this case they're all red, a reminder of the bloody-handed t-posing

guy from before.

We get it dude, we get it!

The other notable thing for me in this shot is the woman holding these cutouts up like

bunny ears.

There are a lot of references to magic in this trailer.

Rabbits are usually associated with magic, because magicians are always trying to pull

a rabbit out of a hat for some reason.

The daughter's got a rabbit on her shirt at the lake, the doppelganger son sits like

a rabbit, there's a hall full of rabbits, and a fight that takes place in a room full

of caged rabbits.

The title card has a Rorschach test where the middle white part looks like a rabbit's

face looking straight at you.

We'll come back to the rest of this though.

Another possible reason for all of the rabbits other than the magic reference, is that rabbits

are known to quickly reproduce and the antagonists of this movie seem to be reproductions of

the main family.

When the son wanders off, he goes towards an attraction called Merlin's Forest.

There is also a painting of a fox on the side of that building, a natural predator of rabbits

and in this scene in the closet there is a board game called Magic.

So those are the definite magic references, and then there's also a shot here of the

daughter on this cracked mirror, which makes me think of people sometimes referring to

magic tricks as smoke and mirrors.

But the mirrors could have a different meaning, since the doppelgangers are like mirror images

of the original characters.

And that's where I'm gonna get into the inkblot stuff.

Most of them are mirrored down the center.

I think this one looks like the son's Wolfman mask a little bit.

Maybe a little bit more like Chewbacca actually, but they're both pretty close.

In this one I see a skull.

And in this one I'm getting a creepy pair of eyes with a mask.

Maybe a little Sub-Zero going on there.

The final title card is the most interesting.

I pointed out the rabbit already, but this could also be interpreted as the handle of

the scissors seen throughout the trailer and poster.

Then there are two faces looking outward, but this is the only title graphic that doesn't

have perfect symmetry.

Let me know what you saw in each of those Rorschach tests though, those are always interesting

to hear what people saw.

Number one, this is Creed. Now some of you might be wondering James. Why aren't you mentioning the Rocky movies?

Well, you guys might like the Rocky movies which came first before Creed which is technically the sequel

I personally really liked Creek. It was very dramatic. It was cinematic

it was very modern Creed still has the amazing performances of Sylvester Stallone the act

Side-by-side with Michael Jordan who plays Creed and just inspires you to never give up and no matter how many times you get punched down

Keep getting back up and keep moving forward. Number two is the Prince of Egypt

This is an amazing story about the story of Moses from Exodus in the book of the Bible

Moses is born in Israel and gets adopted by Egyptians

Moses has to come and free the Israelites from slavery under the Egyptian

it's a great story about believing in miracles and believing in the gifts that God has given to him this features a

Fantastic music by Hans Zimmer. It's an animated dream-worlds

Classic that you're definitely gonna want to watch with the entire family and listen

You don't even have to be religious in order to watch this movie. Even if you have no context on the story whatsoever

You're still gonna enjoy the story. So so good number three

This is a great independent movie called facing the Giants facing

The Giants is about a football team that keeps losing every single time and about a failing coach who's also not having kids

so many different issues

It's the coach who has to believe that God will give him the strength in order to achieve

Whatever he's meant to do as well as guide his football team to compete against one of the greatest most

Competitive football teams the Giants it's so inspiring because it shows you that you do have the strength in order to overcome

Whatever obstacle comes across

Number four. It's actually not one movie

It's a whole trilogy and that is the Lord of the Rings directed produced and co-written by Peter Jackson

This is such an amazing trilogy based off the books written by JRR tolkien

This is the story about a small Hobbit Frodo Baggins played by Elijah Wood who's been given the task of taking a ring

And he has it destroyed in a very dangerous mountain

The journey is going to be a human distress and it teaches us again

And again again

To always have hope to always believe there's a light at the end of the tunnel to always believe that we can achieve

What we were meant to do doesn't matter how small we are doesn't matter

How weak we may be we were given this task and we can achieve whatever we need to achieve

Number five is the greatest showman a great musical starring Hugh Jackman and Michelle Williams

This brought me to my feet when I first saw this in the theatre so much great news a great dance and great choreography overall

But it's a fantastic story - believe in yourself

Also not to get cocky and get stuck by your ego keep believing keep pushing forward

Remember the true intention of why you do what you do number six?

This is a bit of a childhood favorite and this is homeward bound

Homeward bound is about three pets two dogs and a cat that gets separated from their owners and it's the pets that go through this

Amazing journey through the wild in order to get back to their owners brings me to tears every single time. It is funny

It's great for the entire family

Finally number seven last but not least is Air Bud air

But it's a classic tale of a dog that comes across a basketball player learns how to play basketball

but more importantly and also includes a legal battle where bud wants to separate himself from

His original piece of owner and be a part of this new family with this new kid. Who's also a basketball player

It's so inspiring on how the dog and the kid work out their challenges and keep

Working on improving their game and improving their goals and improving their outcomes one step at a time and believing in themselves
