Make the difference you want to make // Part 4 of 5 - Duration: 48:47.

Hi, my Dears!

It's Part 4 of our series this week and I'm very excited about today because we

are talking about making a difference that you want to make.

This is something that I talk about a lot, especially with those of you that I coach,

as I am Progress Coach, so my passion helping people get what it is that they really want.

This started, of course, all of this Map-Your-Progress-ness, started in thinking about goals and the goals

we set for ourselves.

The things that we go after.

Really want those things mean—the time that we invest in actually pursuing those goals,

and the energy that we put into it, the intention, the expectation—all of this stuff around

our goals.

Beyond the top layer—that's what I get really excited about and has been the place

from which this all has come.

So if there's anyone that could let me know if could hear me, that would be wonderful.

'Cause we've been having some technical glitches this week.

But anyhow!

I shall carry forth.

I wanted to give a quick context for why we're talking about making a difference in relation

to progress and goals.

It's kind of two-fold: Part of it is for your benefit, as the person who is going after

these things.

My wish for you is that in whatever goal you set, and whatever you apply yourself to, that

you are able to have the experience that you most want to have.

So pretty much anything that we decide we want it's because we believe that we're

going to feel a certain way, if we were to achieve that.

Or that we get to be a person that we want to be in the world.

Or we get to do the things that we most want to do.

It's a logic the we operate under that says that if we achieve whatever that goal is,

then we will be able to experience whatever it is we want.

And what I've learned in my own life, as somebody who is a recovering perfectionist,

overachiever, very much into having high standards for myself, I realized after years of pushing

myself really hard to always be reaching, always want to improve and go after all kinds

of goals.

In a number of cases, eventually reaching those goals, that once I would reach them,

I would be very disappointed and at times even discouraged that I had gone through so

much.

Because I had wanted to have this thing and wanted to feel this way, and it didn't happen?

You know, I did everything that I was supposed to do.

I did all of the steps, any yet.

It was fleeting.

Or it wasn't there at all.

So when I launched Map Your Progress about a year and a half ago, and started providing

artwork that would help people track their goals and stay motivated and focus on their

next right steps and breaking things down into small pieces—and all of that—which

is very much more about the practical/tactical "how to get things done."

I've found that I couldn't not talk about this part of it.

I couldn't—in other words—I couldn't ignore the fact that I would be selling Progress

Maps, and having conversations with people, and hearing about what they thought they were

going to go after, and then having this sense that even if they were to reach that—that

wasn't exactly what the thing was that was most fulfilling for them.

So how do you even figure out what's fulfilling for you?

That's the obvious question, right?

And this was something that I kind of tussled with a little bit and was trying to come up

with ways that I could better support you.

And help you choose goals that would be more fulfilling and satisfying for you.

When a goal is more fulfilling and satisfying to you, when it's exciting to you and you're

kind of pulled by it, pulled by a sense of inspiration or enthusiasm or excitement or

curiosity—it's a very different experience, in the actual pursuit of that progress.

When you're being pulled by something that you love, rather than trying to push your

way toward something from a place of fear or "shoulds" or "I know I'm supposed

to do this thing" "I know I'm supposed to pay off my debt" "I know I need to

lose weight" When we come from that kind of energy, it often doesn't go well.

I mean, not surprisingly, because it's not fun.

It's not interesting.

It's not exciting.

There's nothing really compelling there.

It's a matter of wrestling with your willpower and trying to be someone that you're not,

which I—it's just, ughhgh.

It's the worst thing.

So my wish for you, is that you're able to connect to whatever it is that makes you

feel most alive and most excited and whatever thing that you want to give to other people,

which ultimately does make a difference in other people's lives.

That's the kind of stuff that I would love to support in finding out for yourself.

That's very much in the bucket today of what we're going to chat about.

OK.

I am going to tell you about a tool that I created.

For the purpose of wanting to make it easier to start to hone in on whatever that thing

is for you, that you really want to give and contribute to the world, So I came up with

this series of distinctions.

I call them Human Light Types.

It's based on this belief I have that, at our best, as humans, we are able to be sources

of light.

When defining light, that could be a lot of things.

It could be creativity, it could be innovation, it could be humor, it be joy, it could be

musical talent.

It could be anything.

But there's some combination based on your skills, your passion, your experience, your

weaknesses, your strengths—all of that—that you are well-designed for.

When you are engaged in whatever that thing is, you feel most alive.

You feel most powerful.

You literally brighten up and it's attractive.

It's magnetic.

It's noticeable.

People get excited *with* you.

And I haven't found any better life experience than that—than coming alive and being able

to share it with others in a way that is of benefit to them.

Because the experience that you get to have from being true to yourself, sharing, giving,

whatever that thing is that you love so much, and then to have somebody else on the other

end saying, "OHMYGODYES.

Yes, I love what you do!

Yes, I love who you are!

Thank you for being here.

I'm so glad that I know you.

I'm so glad that I met you.

I'm so glad that you're doing what you're doing in the world."

To be on the receiving end of that, feels amazing.

And that, is a total game changer.

So, that's what I want for you.

It's like knowing that this thing exists, I can't just keep talking about goals in

simplistic terms, about debt payoff and weight loss.

Because those are just part—it's like symptoms of what's out of balance, because

we're not in alignment with what it is that we're really here to do.

So rather than have you focus just on the practical/tactical of how to pay off debt

or lose weight or create new habits or focus on your sobriety—any of the number of very

logical, reasonable, adult-sounding things—what I really want is to have you use what you

love, what lights you up, what makes you come alive, as a means to get those other things.

This may sound a little abstract because I haven't gotten into detail yet, but that

brings me back to the light types and how do I paint this picture more clearly so that

you can start to see yourself in it and see what resonates with you.

Or what feels right to you.

The light types came about because a dear friend of mine had asked me who it is that

I coach, as a Progress Coach, who is the person that I most want to work with.

And it started me thinking about someone who has experienced a lot of things in their life,

and really wants to use their life experience in service of others.

So taking their own pain, failures, victories, strengths—all of it—not selectively, but

all of the things—and using that in such a way that they could share their story.

They could share the wisdom that they gained.

They could say "hey, this is what I've been through, and this is how I did it."

That was something that was super attractive to me because is *my* deal.

That's where I come alive.

And in thinking about that, and the kind of person that is able to share their story in

that way, I was thinking of heroes.

Of course my heroes are Oprah and Brené Brown and Marianne Williamson and Ani DiFranco.

All of these incredible women who have been through some shit and have come out the other

side, and are wanting to use their life and their truth and their story and their vulnerability

in such a way that it reaches out to people who are currently going through those tough

things.

And shining a light, basically, that says, "It's going to be OK.

You're not alone, you're not crazy.

You're a human being.

There are other people who have been through this and I can show you what I did.

Or I can show you what I learned."

That dynamic is something that, you know, for me is what matters most.

So when I was thinking about how I would describe people like me, who really want to be able

to reach others.

The idea that I came up with was a Lighthouse.

If you were to imagine a human, as Lighthouse, and being able to beam their light out to

those who are in the dark, who are in the storms, who are being tossed about, and just

want somewhere safe to go.

Just want to be able to move through.

A Lighthouse is that person who can reach them and say, "Come this way."

So when I was sharing this concept of the Lighthouse, with my dear friend, she's like,

"Oh, OK."

And she got it, and she's like, "So, what other light types are there?

Because obviously, not everybody's a Lighthouse."

I am a Lighthouse, I very much have a Lighthouse view of the world—and you can hear and see

that in most everything that I do.

Obviously, not everybody's like that.

So I kind of took that question and I spent some time, marinating and looking at different

things, and I came up with eight more different light types.

I have created a section on mapyourprogress.com where you can look at these different light

types.

But I just wanted to kind of briefly take you through the remaining eight in the hopes

that in hearing about them, you may start to see yourself.

Or you may start to recognize other people in your life that you care about.

For each of us, we have our own things that are most important.

It's not that one person is right and the other is wrong, it's just that there's

different things that do it for us, ok?

So the next one that I want to share about is called a Floodlight.

A Floodlight is somebody who is here to make a big impact.

They are about game-changing.

They are about creating legacy.

They want to really shift things in a big way.

And if they are not able to do that, it is miserable.

And it's not fulfilling.

And were they leave the planet without having done something big, that impacted the greater

community or humanity, it would feel like a life not fully lived.

I was recently chatting with a friend of mine at a holiday party who's a Floodlight and

I was asking him how things are going.

He's super smart and capable and builds all kinds of cool digital things.

And he's doing really great work for a company.

And he said, "Yeah, but I haven't, you know, really done the thing yet that's going

to contribute to humanity."

I totally got what he was saying, because for him, that is the measure.

That is the thing that makes him come alive.

This idea of using his skill set and his mastery of technology and coding and website design

to be able to create something that is going to have a huge impact.

Because that's him!

He's a Floodlight.

Make sense?

OK.

So the next one is what I call a Campfire.

People who, their form of light is if you imagine a campfire, and the vibe that goes

with that.

Campfires are people who bring other together.

Particularly diverse types of people and oftentimes has a connotation with either the outdoors

or a love of the environment or nature or finding that really important.

If you think about the kind of conversations that happen around campfires, where there's

a sort of an intimacy or a different context of quality to the conversation that kind of

stops the noise of everyday life and gets to a place of truth and clear communication

and intimacy.

That's exactly the kind of vibe the Campfires dig.

That's what they love to do.

They love to bring people together.

I have one friend whose a Campfire and she's a professor—and she's an anthropology

professor—that's because she loves different types of cultures and different types of people.

She loves her students coming from all different backgrounds.

She's able to welcome them all and figure out ways to connect with them and show them

where they are more alike than different.

But still being able to respect and appreciate those differences.

So that's *classic* Campfire—that's what lights her up and is meaningful for her.

The next one is Torchlights.

And Torchlights are all about justice.

You know, I think Braveheart.

I think of people who are natural leaders, activists, into revolution.

They want to stand for people who are vulnerable, who don't have a voice.

I mean, they can't imagine just living their life, without standing for other people.

You can't separate the two.

So if you're a Torchlight and you're not able to be making a difference for those who

you feel you want to protect or support, it's not going to be very fulfilling for you.

There's a real sense of passion and "if I don't do it, who will?" for Torchlights.

That's something you will come though in terms of what they talk about.

They'll usually be very aware of current events and what's going on and their polictics

may be progressive (from their perspective).

So those are Torchlights.

Then we have Lamplights.

Lamps are probably the most common type of light.

I say that simply because I have a quiz on mapyourprogess.com/quiz (I'll tell you about

that more in a second) where I've had people go through and self-identify what type of

lights they are.

Based on the results of that, based on the feedback I've received from so many of you

who have taken the quiz, the statistic suggests that most folks are Lamplights.

When I say most, I mean probably somewhere around 35-40%.

Now again, the stat is only as helpful as it is in this particular context, but that

is to say that for Lamplights, what is most important to them is their people.

Their family.

Those who they work with.

Those in their community.

The people within their realm, who they feel belong to them.

Who they come into contact with on a daily basis.

Their whole joy of being in the world is to love and support those people and care for

them.

This is where you'll here stories of parents who work multiple jobs just to be able to

put their kids into the right school or to support them in pursuing their dreams, talents,

stage-parents—things like that.

It could also be business owners and people who have a strong sense of whomever their

team is.

But they're really nurturing.

They're the kind of people that have a strong sense of duty and responsibility.

They will show up.

I mean, the world would not function without Lamps.

For those of us that are different light types, that are wanting to build things and go out

into the world or whatever, we couldn't do any of that without having Lamps in our

life to love and support us.

And they feel really fulfilled by that.

So it makes me a little sad when I hear somebody talking about, "well, I just want to be

a stay-at-home Mom, isn't that weird?"

No!

No, that's amazing!

Because that's what makes you feel alive.

That's what is most satisfying to you.

That's what's most fulfilling for you.

That feels like the best use of your time.

And we need people like that.

So bottom line is: Whatever you type is, just embracing it is the best thing that you can

do for yourself and for everybody around you.

OK, so the next type is a Flashlight.

Flashlights are all about adventure!

A slow death for a Flashlight is life in a cubicle.

Or mundane, routine.

Flashlights are not meant for that.

They are here to explore.

They're here to go forth.

They're here to travel.

To go into dark places.

If you think about somebody using a Flashlight, and the kind of person that would be into

that.

Think about the kinds of activities that they're doing.

This may even include military or law enforcement or fire fighters—these jobs that are not

easy, that not everybody can do.

But they have a sense of—not just adventure—but almost, "I need to go find out what's

going on.

I need to be there.

I need to make a difference.

I need to show up.

I need to see what I can see and who it could help."

Then we have Candlelights.

Candlelights are artists, the creative people, they're here to be themselves, to be shine

even on their own.

To be able to light other people up and not lose their own vibrancy.

They are about self-expression.

The whole point of their life is to be brave enough to share their creativity, their self—their

true self—they're often very sensitive.

What's painful for a Candle is feeling like they can't say that's true for them.

Feeling like they can't fully express.

If you imagine other countries in the world where expression is not encouraged or music

is frowned upon or dance or free speech—this is like the worst thing for a Candle because

they are here to be fully themselves and to share that with other people.

And that may be on a more intimate scale, in just the people that they know or come

in contact with, or it could be something on a much larger scale.

Something like Adele comes to mind.

Where she's really just wanting to be who she is and say what's true for her.

In the expression of that, that is her shining bright at her best.

So we've got two more.

We've got Stringlights.

String lights are all about fun.

They're about joy.

If you think about occasions where there are string lights, usually it's parties, festivities.

It's dressing up the mundane to make it more beautiful and magical.

String lights can be misunderstood sometimes because others won't think that they have

enough ambition or that the difference they want to make isn't grand, you know?

Which I would disagree with.

Because when you have a Stringlight in your life, this is somebody that can make even

the most ordinary, day-to-day, grind kind of thing, better.

They bring joy with them.

And they feel most alive when they're able to celebrate everyday life.

To laugh.

To bring a levity that is so needed in daily life.

They're all about having fun and inviting others to have fun as well and just enjoy

life.

And then we've got Spotlights.

Spotlights are the people who are here to push themselves to their full capability.

They'e often people who are not necessarily just performers, but they could be chefs,

for example, or athletes or even in just their particular vocation.

They just really want to be the best.

It's not necessarily the they want to be the best just for their own reasons, but they

really want to do their job extremely well.

They want to see how far they can take it.

So they will be gratified by the pursuit of excellence.

You will notice them because they are so committed to becoming incredibly good at whatever it

is that they love to do.

They're not going to be satisfied unless they are allowed to continue to pursue that

and continue to excel and grow.

And be seen by the people that are their audience.

Those that appreciate what it is that they do or are interested in it.

Those are the nine different types that I've shared.

Hopefully in listening to these, at least one or two of them has kind of resonated for

you.

Maybe in hearing the descriptions, you're thinking, too.

"Oh yes, that's totally my Mom or that's my best friend or that's my sister."

I found it really helpful to keep in mind that we're all different types.

One of the things that kind of gets my hackles up when we talk about purpose and these conversations—when

we get into judgement about other people and what they're doing with their life.

"I don't understand why so-and-so would quit a perfectly good job and then go try

and be an artist.

It's a ridiculous idea!" or "I don't understand why someone is so focused on their

career and they haven't started a family.

How could you not have a family?

That's ridiculous!"

You can start to hear where we have these different perspectives about what is most

important in life.

Or what would be most exciting or meaningful, valuable, whatever.

It makes me nuts when we start to criticize one another for being different.

Holding a different value and a different viewpoint.

Because it's so important that we have diversity, in terms of the lights we bring.

Our planet very much needs that, our societies could not function were there not diversity

in terms of our strengths and our passions and what we most want to contribute.

So it can be pretty instinctive, I think, to just assume that other people are like

you and value what you value.

But I would love to challenge you to start to consider these different perspectives and

be listening for them in the conversations that you'e having or even when you're

watching TV.

Just kind of noticing and making a little bit of a game of it.

I think it can be really helpful for appreciating who people are and who you are.

'Cause one thing that happens when we are in a position where, let's say, I'll use

the example of where I was a few years.

Where I was pursuing a path that was not about Lighthouse stuff.

It was more about kind of Lamplight things and Spotlight things—a combination of caring

for other people and seeing how well I could do in a particular track that I was on.

So when I started exploring the Lighthouse part of myself and was sharing these ideas

that I had or things that I wanted to do.

I would share them with people, who weren't necessarily Lighthouse-y.

They'd be like, "Oh!

OK.

Good for you.

Good for you!"

They wouldn't fully understand it or they wouldn't understand why it was something

important to me.

Why it would be worth pursuing.

Why I would leave a perfectly good job or set-up where I had consistently good income

and was well-received was doing.

But I felt half-dead.

And I didn't feel alive.

I didn't feel excited about waking up in the morning.

Sometimes, you know, when we have these conversations and when you're in this position where you're

starting to recognize, "OK, I'm successful at my life.

I'm doing the things that I'm supposed to do.

And yet, I still don't feel excited about it.

I don't feel alive.

I don't feel like I'm making a difference.

I'm just going through the motions.

I'm just showing up and doing whatever."

When you notice that, and you start to consider, say something like the light types (which

is just one tool, whatever tool works for you), and you start to connect to what that

kind of thing is that you want to be doing.

When you start to share it, when you start opening this conversation, and it's not

somebody who is receptive to that or can really understand that, then it can be discouraging.

And your Clever Brain, that part of your brain that does not want you to change, that does

not want you to grow, that does not want you to be empowered, that just wants you to stay

exactly where you are, doing exactly what you're doing and not talk about anything.

That part of your brain loves that kind of feedback.

Because when you're talking about something that you love and other people don't get

it, and they have kind of a lukewarm reception, your Clever Brain's like, "YESSS.

This is evidence that what you're into, sucks!"

Or that people don't care about it.

Or that it's not important.

Or it's weird.

Or whatever!

But your Clever Brain wants you to be discouraged.

So in terms of next right steps, I would love for you to go to mapyourprogress.com/quiz.

Take the quiz; there are eleven questions.

Then you'll receive a result that will say, "You might be…a Flashlight!" or whatever

the light type is.

What I would love for you to do at that point, is just kind of sit with that and see, "Does

this seem like me?"

Most of the people that I've talked to are like, "Yeah, actually that really did resonate."

But there's also a link that you can click to take you to the section on mapyouprogress.com

which is backslesh—backslesch?

Wow.

I haven't even been drinking today! mapyourprogress.com/lights That is the page where you'e gonna find

all nine light types.

So I would love for you to kind of click through and just read though some of the other light

types, anything that catches your attention or feels like it might be you.

Because I want to make sure that you're connecting to the one that feels most true

for you.

It may not be that it's just one light type that you connect to.

There may be two or three, which is totally fine.

It's not like there's a right or wrong way to do it, it's just that these distinctions,

the quiz, the section on the site, is really there to help you get more clear on what feels

true for you.

And what pulls at your heart.

And sounds exciting to you.

If you have already taken the quiz, then I would love for you to make sure the you check

out the other light types.

If you didn't already do that.

If you did, I again would encourage you to look at the other people in your life and

what kind of light types they are.

Because when we start to be sensitive to other people's purpose and the things that make

them come alive, then we're able to be of more support.

And we're able to better understand them.

Things that may have been hurtful or say somebody's putting a lot of energy into something and

you feel like they're not spending enough time with you, or you don't understand it,

some of those things can be easier to understand and relationships can improve because you're

able to see their perspective.

And understand what drives them.

And it can even help things too when you're giving gifts.

Or you're thinking about dates or experiences that you'd want to go on.

If you love somebody whose a Flashlight, go have an adventure.

Go to a place that you haven't been.

Flashlights hate going to the same places over and over again.

If you're married to a Flashlight, please don't go to the same restaurant over and

over and over and over again.

Which may be something like a Lamp, who actually finds a lot of comfort from doing the same

things and from having routine.

So just having an awareness and sensitivity to each others' differences I think can

make a significant difference in the quality of our relationships and how you connect with

one another.

OK, so I'm just referencing my notes, because I have been wanting to give you guys some

additional next right steps that you can take with you beyond this conversation.

Where you can start to take this information and bring it more into your life so that it's

of greater use to you.

So starting with the quiz, of course, and the results, and familiarizing yourself with

the different light types.

I would love for you then, to start to take some steps to support whatever your light

type is more so in your life.

It can be something really simple, as changing your social media feed.

So many of us are on Facebook and Instagram and Twitter and all of that.

But if you very intentionally start to curate your feed and the things that you're seeing

on a daily basis with people or organizations who either are your light type or are aligned

with that lightype, that can feel really good.

I mean, it sounds so simple, but I've actually found that that makes a significant difference

when I'm tuning into something that has content that is interesting and inspiring.

And it causes me to grow and to think of how I might be able to shine brighter.

To be a more powerful Lighthouse.

So don't underestimate the power of inspiration.

Highly recommend that you adjust your feeds.

And then you can also start to subscribe to people's emails or maybe there's magazines,

there's books you could read, but just looking at how your life is right now, and the things

that you enjoy doing.

Starting to look at that from the perspective of your light type and intentionally bringing

more of that stuff into your life.

It could even be the movies that you watch, for example.

Any of that stuff that you can customize to your light type and what matters to you is

just going to be more supportive and encouraging of that.

It's just going to be feel better and better.

So taking that a step further, and you know, the topic of this chat is about the difference

that you want to make.

When you think about you light type, and the kind of things that you most enjoy doing.

I want you to think about specifically what scenarios, what situations in your life you

feel most alive.

Love for you to grab a pen and do some writing.

And just spend some time with yourself in this.

Think about: What scenarios in your life do you feel most

alive?

Where are you?

Who are you with?

What are you doing?

What's happening?

What are other people getting from you?

What benefit are they receiving?

So for me as a Lighthouse, when I'll share a story and I'll risk being vulnerable and

saying something truthier than people were expecting.

I'll have somebody come up to me and say, "god, thank you so much for saying that.

I really needed to hear that."

or "Me, too."

That stuff just makes my whole life.

Think about how other people respond to the light that you bring and that you contribute.

Think about who those people are, you know?

What are they into?

What kind of characteristics?

They may be similar to you.

But not necessarily.

I want you to use your imagination to start to paint a picture of what it might be like

for you to do more things that are aligned with your light and be thinking about who

most wants to receive.

Because regardless of what you light type is, I promise you: There are countless people

out there that would love to be in your light.

That would love to see you or feel it or just be around it.

There's something really enlivening and comforting and yummy about it.

So your people are out there.

But if you're dimming your light, if you're not connected to your type, if you're not

nurturing that and encouraging that part of yourself, it's much harder for you to connect

with those people.

So when you start getting an idea of who those people are.

You can think of them perhaps as your tribe.

But the people that you are here to shine for, who in serving—you become brighter,

you become stronger‚ you feel more alive and more on-purpose, more excited about being

a human being—and you consider who they are.

What kind of things they might be doing. Then start talking about that.

Start having conversations with people that are safe or who you trust.

Let them know about the kind of people that you're interested in meeting.

You would be surprised at how the Universe starts to organize and how things that you

didn't see before, become visible.

Doors that were not there before, become visible and start to open.

And random shit starts to happen when you put your attention and intention around being

the kind of light in the world that you want o be and connecting with your people

I'd like to take it even a step further than that, beyond the more practical, to what

I still think of as exceedingly practical, that often times people will regard as a bit

"woo woo."

So if you're allergic to woo woo, just stick with me, here.

Because I do think that there's a lot of value in this.

I really do this on a daily basis in my own life and have found it completely changes

everything and makes life so much easier.

In terms of you making the difference that you want to make, you getting to shine bright

as the light you are, and have people who are really excited about that.

And so grateful that you're in the world.

When you think about the visual of you particular light type; so for me—as a Lighthouse—it's

a lighthouse on the edge of a body of water, in the dark, with a beam going out.

So in the mornings, when I wake up, before I get out of bed.

I will lay there and have my eyes closed and think about myself.

I will visualize myself as having this beam of light.

And think about it going out and going around.

I will essentially ask—doesn't matter what you believe in, if you're spiritual,

religious, or not—but just asking for support that is beyond what you know of.

Certainly, with your intelligence and creativity, you can come up with things on your own.

But to be willing to be supported by something more than that?

Regardless of whether or not you can define it or you feel very clear on what that is.

It's totally fine.

Either way, you asking.

You visualizing your light.

You know, if you're a Flashlight, that beam's coming straight off you.

If you're a Spotlight, you're lighting things up.

If you're a Floodlight, Candle—think of whatever the light type is.

Envision yourself as that and your light becoming stronger.

Your light drawing in your people.

Just using that as a meditation, as a prayer, as a mindful exercise.

However you want to describe it.

I can be really, really potent.

Because often times I think, as humans, we have our own arrogance—that we know the

answers.

Or that we need to do it all on our own.

Or that certainly something couldn't something couldn't be outside of our own view.

And I think when we're the kind of achiever, perfectionistic types, we can get kind of

tunnel vision.

So having an intention, making a practice, I mean—it certainly cannot hurt.

But I would love for you to experiment with that!

And see what evidence starts to appear.

And what kind of things, like fall from the sky.

Or that you could never have imagined.

You know?

It's like—magical.

I don't even know exactly how those things work.

I just know that when I make a point of spending time, focusing on my light, visualizing myself

reaching all of the people that I could best serve, all of the people who are having experiences

in their life that I have been through, that I could support and guide them with.

I want those people to come to me.

I want to be connected to those people somehow.

I want there to be some sort of province or serendipity or some greater forces that cross

our paths.

So I ask for that.

And it is remarkable how they appear!

It's taken me years to wrestle with that.

Where my logical brain was like, "Nawwh, it can't be that easy!" or "That's

ridiculous!"

And yet.

I literally have a list of things that I keep track of, that it's like, "Yep!

Oh, this random thing happened, this incredible thing happened, this door opened."

And with the magic of technology, and the Internet and social media, we have never been

more connected.

You are one hashtag away from connecting someone who thinks you're amazing.

So I would encourage you to embrace the woo woo, to take these different ideas, to start

to play around with them.

I'm very much a believer in "all of the above" so experiment!

Try things out.

See what works for you.

I'd love to hear from you more about what you think in terms of your light type and

how you see that in the world.

There's something that I've been doing some months now, that's probably the most

useful thing I could provide in terms of helping you get clear on your light type.

What that might look like in a much more detailed way.

It's something called a Spark Session.

I have been gifting them to members of the Map Your Progress Tribe.

I will continue to do that only for the next two days, actually.

It's something that I will no longer do in 2017.

It's a two-hour experience that I offer, where it's not a coaching session, but rather

it's a deep listening where I'm really focused on hearing for you, whatever it is

that lights you up, that makes you come alive.

And it doesn't need to make sense to you.

You don't have to know how everything works.

You may not be clear on what that even is.

But you just feel this sense that you know that there's a difference you're here

to make.

And you don't feel connected to it.

In a Spark Session, we can connect those dots.

And we can start to see what, for you, the next right steps would be.

And I can get much more detailed when I have two hours to be with you, and really hear

things.

What's cool about a Spark Session is that—this happened again and again—where people will

say things like, "well, I've never told anybody this" or "god, I'd never thought

about it that way before" because we have the time and space and quiet for you to really

be able to go down into the layers of yourself and start to bring to light the things that

you already know.

That are intrinsic to you.

It's my joy to kind of be a mid-wife of sorts, and be there to help create the space

for you to experience that.

To know which questions to ask when, and start to draw that out of you, so that you can see

it for yourself.

And we can see what next right steps make sense for you.

So if that's something that's intriguing to you, I would love for you to apply for

a Spark Session.

As I said, you only have a couple more days to do that before they are no longer available

as a gift.

But will be part of something called a Progress Plan, which you can, of course, purchase.

But if you are interested in really getting clear on your light, and thinking of all the

different ways to embrace it in how you are crafting your life, then I would love to have

you apply.

If you go to mapyourprogress.com/spark, you'll see a link to a series of questions where

I get to learn more about you.

And then we can figure out the details in terms of setting up sessions.

You have two days left to apply.

However, I'm booked out such that we won't actually do the session until later in January.

But would love for you to do that.

It's really the most useful thing that I have to offer on this topic.

So I'm happy to give you some next right steps and some ideas here in this chat, but

would love to be able to help you take that much further.

So, Spark Session, there you go.

Tomorrow, we are going to be back at 3pm Pacific.

It'll be the five of our five-series for the week.

What we've been talking about this week has all been about really setting you up to

make progress on purpose in 2017.

In any time in the future, but since we're here at the end of the year, and often in

conversation about New Year's resolutions, then I think it's a particularly timely

period for us to reflect on what's working, what's not working, what you would like

to see happening in this next year.

So, tomorrow, for our fifth chat: What we're going to be talking about is really living

a life that matters to you.

And designing your life in such a way, kind of continuing the conversation on what I was

just mentioning in terms of curating your life.

But there's so many different layers and details and ways that you can start to customize

and tail-yer—tail-yer?—wow!

Tailor your life to be really true to who you are.

And to support to you.

And you being at full power.

And being able to make the difference that you want to make.

And to be able to make (progress) from a place of love instead of fear.

It's like night and day in terms of life experience.

So we're going to be talking about that tomorrow and what kind of things you can do

to start to take some next right steps towards customizing your life, so that when you wake

up in the morning, you're happy about it, and you're excited about things, and you

don't feel like you're just sort of going through the motions or existing.

Where you don't feel trapped in your own success.

That's something that I think happens a lot.

Where we get good at things, we're rewarded for being a certain kind of person to others

or maybe being in a certain job or having a particular role.

We do it, but inside it feels like it's sucking the life out of us.

So tomorrow, we're going to be talking about things like that and how you can craft and

design your life so that it's one that matters to you, that you're really excited about.

Cool?

So I don't know that we have any questions right now, but certainly if you're watching

this later, feel free to chime in and I'd be very happy to reply back to those.

I always love hearing what you guys have to say.

And I will look forward to seeing you tomorrow at 3pm Pacific.

Alright, Dears!

Thanks for being with me.

Bye!

SCOM0592 - Tip - macOS & iOS - Duet & Touchbar - Duration: 4:52.

[Music]

Hi this is Don McAllister and welcome to another

ScreenCastsOnline Tip of the Week Video.

If you're not familiar with the Tip of the Week Videos as you

might imagine they are produced every week, they're usually

very short, usually no more than 5 minutes and they're really

intended to give you some hints and tips on getting the most

out of your Mac or iOS device.

Now I will be publishing these on the ScreenCastsOnline

website and they'll also be available in the

ScreenCastsOnline Members and SCO Showcase App and also in

the monthly magazine and they're also available for free on

the ScreenCastsOnline YouTube channel.

The application I'm going to show you is an application

called Duet Display and we have covered this before in a

previous full tutorial.

If you go across to the ScreenCastsOnline website and if we

just do a quick search for Duet Display you'll see we did

this back in January 2016, click on here and you can view the

full tutorial if you're a Member or you can get the 14-day

free trial to check that particular tutorial out.

But the reason I want to cover it today is that they've

recently upgraded Duet Display to enable it to mimic the new

TouchBar in Mac OS Sierra.

To do that you need 2 components - you need a Mac application

running on your Mac and you need the Duet Display application

on your iPad.

Now to get the Mac Application if we go across to

duetdisplay.com there is a Mac version and a PC version as

well, the Mac version is free to download but of course it

won't work without the iPad version which is a paid-for application.

I've already gone ahead, downloaded and installed the Mac

application - let's just pop that out of the way for a

second, here is my Duet Display up here so it's prompting me

to open Duet on iOS and connect the device to Mac with a

lightning cable to USB.

OK so across on the iPad, if I go into the App Store you can

just do a quick search for Duet Display, I'll do that again

there we go, now I've already purchased and installed the

application so I can just go ahead and say Open.

It will now connect with the Mac or PC and launch Duet.

Right so now we have a multi-screen display on our Mac and I

can use this just as a standard extra window so if I open,

well let's go back to Safari say.

I'll open Safari, I can actually drag this across to the

other window, have Safari on here.

Now the beauty is, what I can do as well if I go into the

Menu Bar icon - let's do this on the iPad, go into here, go

to My iPad and you'll see I'm currently extending the display

I can change the resolution if I need, I can mirror the

display but this is what I want - TouchBar Enabled.

If I switch on TouchBar Enabled you'll see down at the bottom

of the iPad I have a new Touch Enabled TouchBar.

So let's click away from here, in fact I can use Touch on my

iPad to move the window etc.

but let me go ahead - in fact I'll tap on Safari, actually

down at the bottom of the iPad we now have the Safari

controls on the TouchBar.

So I can create a new tab just by touching, I can see all my

favourites and I can swipe across just as we would on a

MacBook Pro.

If I want to get into my System Controls to change brightness etc.

I tap on here I can see all of those system controls, tap on

the 'x' to put that away.

If I start up another application, if I go across to my Mac

and actually start an application on the Mac, let's say Numbers.

And we'll create a new document,

you'll see if I go into Blank we'll say Choose.

On my TouchBar I now have all the TouchBar controls for

Numbers on my iPad and I can use those to control the application.

Now perhaps if you're using the MacBook Pro with TouchBar

this isn't particularly useful but if you have an external

keyboard with say with a Mac Pro or a Mac Mini or an iMac and

you actually want to use TouchBar you can have your extended

keyboard, you can have your iPad with Duet Display configured

and then your standard Mac window and use TouchBar on all the

TouchBar enabled applications.

So that's it for this week's Tip of the Week - check out Duet Display.

I'll be back in a couple of days with a brand new full

tutorial on another topic for ScreenCastsOnline members so

I'll see you then.

2016 Recap | 2017 Goals - Duration: 35:10.

Hi everyone! Welcome back. I'm Di and

today we're going to talk about how I

did on my 2016 goals. I think what I want

to start off with is a few stats, so

these stats are from Goodreads. As of today,

which is December 29, I have read

160 books. 59 of those were

novels, 3 of them were novellas, and

the remaining 98 were manga volumes. I do

count manga. Manga are books too!

So that is definitely more than I

read in 2015. Total number of pages

read was 38,394. The shortest book I

read was The Great Turkey Caper, which is

the first book and the Agnes Barton

Holiday Mystery Novella series by

Madison Johns. This came in at a hundred

and twenty pages. The longest book I read

was Fire & Ash, which was the fourth

and final book in the Benny Imura series

or the Rot & Ruin series by Jonathan

Maberry, and that came in at 544 pages.

The most popular book on Goodreads that

I read in 2016 was Harry Potter and the

Prisoner of Azkaban, and I think that has

somewhere around two million eight

hundred something thousand reads. The

book that I read that was the least

popular on Goodreads was Hayate X

Blade Vol.6 which had 47 reads. My

average rating for 2016 was 3.8 and the

book that I read that had the highest

rating on Goodreads was Noragami Vol.5.

Now at the end of 2015

I said that I had wanted to

read 52 books. Obviously I did bypass

that number by quite a bit, which was

another one of my goals destroyed.

I was supposed to read less and 2016 and I

obviously did not do that. But as I said,

of the hundred and sixty books that I

read, 59 of those were novels. I think

that's really great for me. I have never

ever hit the 52 books in a year number

without including manga, so somewhere in

July I think, I decided that I wanted to

make sure that I hit 52 novels no matter

how many volumes of manga I read. I

wanted to read fifty two novels in the

year and so I did accomplish that. I also

participated in a couple reading

challenges. The first of which was Rock

My TBR. This was a challenge where you

were supposed to read at least one book

off your physical shelf every month. I

upped that to include one book off my

Kindle Unlimited or Scribd subscription.

So I did complete this challenge. Of

the 59 novels that I read this year, 33

of them were from my personal library, so

that was really good. And then, as far as

Scribd or Kindle Unlimited reads, I did

read 12 of those between those two

subscriptions so I did accomplish that

goal. I did not renew my Scribd

subscription this summer. They made

several changes to their program that I

didn't like. Because I used their program

a lot more for audio books

and though they were still allowing us

to use credits on audio books, I didn't

like the fact that they were telling us

how we could use our credits and I said

as much and my closing comment to them.

If we paid per month to get a certain

number of credits to use however we

wanted to, even if 1 credit was for an e-book

and two credits per audiobook, as long as

we could use them the way we wanted to

on the service then that would have been

fine for me, but they were only allowing

us to use one credit for an audio book or we

could only borrow one audiobook a month and

we got three our ebook rentals and that

just wasn't working for me. It didn't

make any sense for me to keep paying for

that subscription especially when I

could just borrow the audiobooks from my

library. I had gotten the subscription

because I liked the fact that they paid

royalties to the authors, you know, with each

borrow, but I was wasting credits every

month and it just didn't make sense for

me to keep it so I did let it go. But if

they do change their program to

something where I could use my credits

how I wanted to on their program i would

definitely re-join the subscription

because i did enjoy it. They did have a

good selection of books and audiobooks

and other than the changes that they made,

I had no problems with that program.

The Kindle Unlimited subscription, I'm

trying to use more.

It's one of those things where I just

kind of forget to use it and then at the

end of the month and it's like ugh, I

didn't you read anything from Kindle

Unlimited! So I'm trying to be a little

bit more conscious about reading from

that service. I think my two year

subscription ends in July as of right now

I am considering keeping that

subscription. There are books on there

that I am still interested in reading

and the series that I mentioned back in

my 2016 goals video as the one that made

me want to get the subscription, I

haven't actually started yet so I really

need to get into that before my

subscription ends...hopefully. As for 2017,

I'm going to still do a challenge like

this in regards to my physical TBR. I

really need to start reading from my own

personal library more. I had mentioned in

my 2016 goals video that I thought I

would be going to the library less and

that didn't happen, but I did keep

accumulating books. So I've been looking

around for a different challenge for the

TBR issue that I have and I came across

the Beat the Backlist challenge just the

other day, so I think I'm going to do

that one. It does offer some mini

challenges that'll help keep me

motivated to pick up books my TBR and

since it's a backlist type of TBR it's

perfect for me because I don't really

read new releases. So all the books

that I have are old releases and even if

I picked it up new, which I'm not one to

pick up brand-new books usually, it's

probably old by now so I am going to

join that challenge. I just need to

create my blog post and my tentative TBR

for that and you'll be able to see the

books that I am hoping to read off my

personal library.

So Beat the Backlist challenge is

going to be the TBR challenge that I

will be participating in 2017. They're

also doing some fun Hogwarts geared mini

challenges and so I am going to be

joining Ravenclaw House and trying to

accumulate some points for that.

So it does look like it's going to be

really interesting and keep me motivated

to read my own personal library. I'm

really looking forward to getting into

that one.

The other challenge that I participated

in was Finishing the Series. For

this one I challenged myself to finish

or become current on between three to

six series in 2016 and I did accomplish

that as well. I will let you know which

series those are but I will probably

only put the first book in each series

up here so that you get some kind of

visual for that.

So the first series that I completed was

The Ghost Hunter Mystery series by

Victoria Laurie. You know that I gush about

this series all the time. It has been one

of my favorites over the last few years

and it did and in early 2016. It will

definitely be one that I will revisit

sometime in my lifetime and I will

probably also collect it to own for my

personal library. Really sad that this

one ended but I hear she's working on

one that fans of that series will enjoy so

I'm looking forward to that one when

it does come out. The next series that I

finished was the Rot & Ruin or Benny Imura

series by Jonathan Maberry. That one, I buddy

read with my good friend Raul over at

Latin Lector. This series was also

amazing.

I didn't think I was gonna like it

because it was about zombies, but it

turned out to be a series that was about

more than just the zombies and fighting

zombies and trying to stay alive so i

really appreciated that series. It was

very engaging

and exciting and I'm glad that I had

somebody to read it with because I

needed that outlet to gush about things

or talk about certain points. And again,

just another really great series. I plan

on getting into the author's Joe Ledger

series in 2017 so I'm really looking

forward to that especially because Joe

Ledger was introduced in a couple of

these books in the Rot & Ruin series so

that's really exciting. Another series

that I finished was Black Bird. This is by

Kanoko Sakurakoji. This was a manga

series that I had started in 2015 and I

finished it this year i really enjoyed

it, though I can definitely see how

somebody might have problems with it or

find some of the content problematic.

Then i finished The Maze Runner trilogy

by James Dashner. This one didn't end

well for me. I kinda felt like this

series didn't need to be a series by

time i finished The Death Cure, but I am glad

that I finally finished this series. I do

consider this a completed series even

though I have not read the two novellas

and I am going to, in the future, consider

series complete if i have read all the

books and not the novellas. But yeah,

this one I read the three novels and

I ended with The Death Cure this year

and I did like the series, but yeah...So

I'm going to say on that one. Then I got

caught up on the Witchcraft series by

Juliet Blackwell. This I read volume 8

which was the newest release earlier

this year,

and I am really enjoying this series.

Also, there were things that happened in

this last installment that were very

interesting and progress the story of

some of our characters, and I'm really

looking forward to the next one. The

other series are got current on was The

Others series by Anne Bishop. I did read

Marked in Flesh in 2016 and again

the next one is coming out in the

spring...I think it's in the spring...

I hope it's in the spring. Super excited

for it! The slow burn romance between Meg and

Simon! We keep getting closer and closer

to something happening yet nothing has

actually happened yet, but I do hope that

by time she finishes their storyline

that it goes the way that I hope it goes.

But I do hear she's going to continue

The Others series with a story from

another set of characters after she

finishes Meg's and Simon's story. So yeah,

still looking forward to reading that

next volume. Really love this series. I

love this series! I do recommend it to

several people. If you haven't read it

definitely check it out!

So those were the 6 series I either

completed or got current on, and then I

also completed other series that I

actually started in 2016.

I didn't start off counting those

series towards this goal, but after I

finished the sixth or got complete, got

caught up on the sixth series to

complete my challenge, I did keep track

of other series that I finished. So I

finished the Bloody Kiss duology by Kazuko

Furumiya. This was a manga duology. Very cute,

about vampires. Enjoyed it. Then I read

The Chronicles of Narnia series, all

seven books, with Lee over at totallee.net

I will link her down in the description box

below. We buddy read the entire series over

2016. Other than The Lion, The Witch, and

The Wardrobe which is the one that I was

most familiar with,

I think The Horse and His Boy was

definitely my favorite - my

favorite book in The Chronicles of

Narnia series and I'm glad that I

finally read it for the first time in my

life.

Another series I started and completed

in 2016 was The Dreaming. This is a manga

trilogy by Queenie Chan. This one

follows a pair of twins and they go off

to this remote boarding school that's

like really in the middle of nowhere and

there's a mystery at the school. I really

enjoyed this one. Then I finished Phantom Thief

Jeanne by Arina Tanemura. This is a manga

series with seven volumes. It's kind of a

re-telling of the Joan of Arc story...kind

of. Artwork again is beautiful. I love

Arina Tanemura's artwork and the story

was interesting. Not one of my favorites

but still enjoyable. Then I completed

Blood+. This one had I think five volumes.

It's also a manga series by Asuka

Katsura. I was already familiar with

this story because I had watched the 50

episode anime and this manga did follow

the happenings in the anime or the other

way around, vice versa...I don't know! They

were close to each other. The manga was

obviously much more condensed. There were

a few things that happened the same but

different which I thought was

interesting. It kept me engaged in reading

the manga. Again, I really enjoyed this

series and I might look into the

follow-up series to read in 2017. But

Blood+ the anime is one of my

favorites. I do own the first half of the

series on DVD

and reading the manga was definitely

another way to consume a story that

I already enjoyed. So again, really good

one and I'm glad I got to it. So in 2017

I'm gonna do another type of challenge

like this. I do have several series where

I'm just one book short of completing

them and I really need to get those

taking care of, so I will be joining

another challenge like this but I'm not

sure which one I want to join yet or if

i'm going to join one at all, but I'm

definitely going to be finishing some

series in 2017. I have four pages of

unfinished series. I wrote them all down.

I put progress bars on all of them so I

have good visual markers as to how many

books I have left in each series. I'm

going to try to knock some of those out

in 2017. I'm probably going to strive to

finish at least one or two more than I

did and 2016, so keep your eye out and

I will let you know what I decide to do

with that either in a video, on twitter,

or in a blog post, but I will definitely

be doing some kind of series finishing

challenge in 2017. I had mentioned that I

wanted to do more buddy reads in 2016

and I did do lots of buddy reads,

especially with my good friend Raul at

Latin Lector. We just - we buddy read a lot

of stuff together and it's just super

enjoyable. We always gush about the same

types of things or he points out

something that I didn't see or I'm able to

point something out to him that he

didn't notice. We just have really great

banter and I'm glad that he has become a

good friend of mine. So thanks Raul,

for being my buddy reading buddy! I

did some (buddy reads) with Lee. I told you I read The

Chronicles of Narnia with her

in 2016. We will be conquering The Lord

of the Rings trilogy in 2017. Both of us

had not read the books before. She read

The Hobbit, I think in 2016.

I have not read The Hobbit, so I may try

that one before we get started with our

buddy read of The Lord of the Rings. So I

will be definitely doing some buddy reads

with her in 2017 and I also buddy read a

couple with my friend Janie over at the

Bookworms Buddy, and I did one buddy read

with Janis at jjjjanis at the

beginning of 2016. So I did do quite a

bit of buddy reads. Hoping to do more. If

you are looking to buddy read

something that's on my list, let me know!

I will link my Goodreads TBR. If anything

looks interesting to you and you'd like

to buddy read with me, just drop me a line,

write a comment, message me, direct

message me on Twitter, anywhere on my

social media. Just get in contact with me and

we'll set that up. Another thing I

mentioned in 2015 as a goal that I

wanted to accomplish in 2016 was to do

more crochet or knit projects. I did do a

couple and I'll show you some pictures

here of things that I have made. There

are a couple things that I finally

worked out as far as things that I had

floating around in my head that I

mentioned. I'm not ready to show those to you

yet, but I did work on them and so I'm

happy to have accomplished that. As far

as my Korean Drama watching goes, I did

watch some but I still did not delegate

the time to watching as many as I

thought I would watch in 2016.

I did watch a few though, so I am happy

with that. My favorite one has to be

Descendants of the Sun. I love that drama! I

watched it twice...TWICE in 2016. I don't

think it was even a month apart from my

rewatching, it was that good. If you're

interested, I think it is still on

netflix and I will link it down below. So

some other things that I want to

accomplish or to happen in 2017 is

that I want to read a few more classics.

I did read Anne of Green Gables and The

Secret Garden in 2016 and so I do want

to read a few more. I'm really lacking in

my classics reading experience. I just

tend not to pick them up.

Not that they're not available to me or

that I'm not interested in them. I always

find some excuse not to read them. I will

be endeavoring to read a few more classics.

i'm not going to set a number but

something that I'm hoping will help me

is that I want to collect the Word Cloud

Classics editions and so, I'm not sure

how that's going to work because I kind

of want to - and this leads into another

thing that I want to do - lessen my book

buying. I'm not going on a book buying ban

because if there's something that I

really want I'm going to get it, and

there's no point in putting a ban on

myself and then just saying that I

failed or I cheated or whatever,

I'm not about that, but I do want to

lessen my book buying. 2016 has been a

book buying year. I have bought more

books in 2016 then I have any other year

that I've been on Goodreads, which has

been four or five years. I do create

shelves, separate shelves, every year on

Goodreads and books that are acquired

during the year, I add to that shelf so I

know relatively what I got

when I got and how many I got in each

year and 2016 had a lot. So I do want to

lessen book buying. I don't usually buy a

lot of new books. I will mostly go for

second-hand books from either library

book sales or used bookstores, but in 2016

I got a Barnes and Noble membership and

that has increased my book buying of

brand-new books quite a bit - as well as

being introduced to Right Stuf, where I

have been collecting manga. So I will

still be allowing myself to buy manga

from Right Stuf for series that I have

started collecting and series that are

pre-ordered and all of that stuff, but

for series that I don't currently have

I'm going to try not to add those to my

collection. I will try to borrow them

from the library first and if I really,

really, really, really have to have it,

then I will allow myself to buy it. But

right now I will only purchasefrom

Right Stuf, manga that I

already started collecting. As for

other books from Barnes & Noble, they do

send me coupons every once in a while because

I'm a member and so I will definitely be

using those to help me by the Word Cloud

Classics editions that I want to obtain

and I will still also allow myself to

buy something off Manga Monday, which is

the fifty percent off manga selections every

Monday, because that's a really good deal.

So I will definitely be lessening my

book buying. If I really need to have

something

new or I'm itching to buy something then

I'll try to trade a book and at the

Little Free Library that is close to me.

In 2016 I did start my book club which

is the First in a Series Cozy Mystery

Book Club and that has been going really

well. We're really laid back about our

reading and even I have had a hard time

like I said, picking up a book just

because I just don't feel like reading

this month, but you know everybody's just

real understanding and cool about when

we discuss things and we're on kind of

our own time. If you want to talk about a

book that we read previously, just pop in

and start a discussion. If you have

read one of the selections already,

people pop in to talk about it. We just

talk about it as we go so I'm enjoying

that. I'm enjoying getting to know some

of the series that have been in my

collection or have been on my radar for

quite a while and having people to talk

to about it and just bring more

awareness to the Cozy Mystery genre in

general. There was a Save Our Cozies

Readathon, I think in april of 2016, that

brought awareness because a lot of the

Cozy Mystery series we're getting

cancelled by publishers and I just

really enjoy Cozy Mysteries. If you want

to join us,

we do have discussion threads up in the

Mystery Madness Goodreads Group and I do

post the books that we have read in the

library shelf in the group. So feel free

to come and chat with us or join us in

any one of our reads! I will be

continuing to pull at least two books

every month from the jar which is over

here, or feel free to suggest one if

there is a series that you're interested

in starting. We do only read first books

in the series but yeah, that has been

really enjoyable for me and I'm looking

forward to continuing that in 2017.

The last thing that I have planned for

my reading in 2017 is that I'm going to

have some themed reading months.

This is just something that I'm going to

do to kinda help me read things that

I've been meaning to read but just

either don't find the opportunity to or

skip over it. So this is going to be like

focused themes for me. So my first themed

reading month is going to be in February

and that is going to be Flashback

February Books. Basically for this month

of February coming up, I want to read

books that I had enjoyed in my school

years. So you may know that I do have a

collection of RL Stine and Christopher

Pike books that I had read growing up. I

still have them and I've been meaning to

get to them and i just have not, so I do

want to knock some of those off in

February. There are also books from

other authors that I want to read that I

did love in my intermediate and high

school years.

those are from Joan Lowery Nixon and

Diane Hoh, and I want to reread The

Phantom Tollbooth. So there's a lot of

books that I could fit in there but

basically I'm going to be reading books

that I loved in my intermediate and high

school years, so that's Flashback

February Books. If you'd like to join me,

feel free! I'll be using the hashtag

#flashbackfebbooks - I don't think

anybody is using

that right now. So that's my plan

for February, and in March The Mystery

Madness Group I believe will still be

doing March Mystery Madness (they are!) which is a

month-long mystery reading month. So

mysteries of all kinds. Last year we had

different categories for different types

of mysteries, so there was one for Cozy

Mysteries, there was one for like Agatha

Christie Mysteries, there was one for

Paranormal Mysteries. So I'll definitely

be participating in March Mystery

Madness and like I said, there is a Cozy

Mystery category or there was last year,

so since we will be doing March Mystery Madness,

I am only going to be pulling one book

out of the jar that month unless I get a

recommendation from somebody, but there

will only be one #Book1CoziesClub

book for March so that we can all

participate in March Mystery Madness.

Then in May, I was going to do

Manga May and just focus on manga

throughout the month, but it's also

Asian-Pacific Heritage Month, so I have

been acquiring slowly a collection of

Asian type books. So I have some

nonfiction books and I have some fiction -

I have lots of fiction books. I also have

some Pacific Islander books that I want

to read during that month, so that's what

I'll be focusing on during May. So as

of right now, those are the themed months

that I have planned for the first half

of 2017. If you want to join me, feel free!

I don't have hashtags for anything set

up yet except for February.

There might be one for March Mystery

Madness. I think it might just be hashtag

#MarchMysteryMadness and then I'm not

sure what I want to use for May But yeah,

those are gonna be my themed reading

months for the first half of 2017. Not

sure if I'm going to continue that in

the second half.

We'll have to see how that goes for me. I

am quite a bit of a mood reader so I'm

not sure how well i'm going to be able

to stick to the theme in those months,

but I definitely want to try it because

there are things that I really want to

get to and I think having the themed

months is going to help me a lot. So I

think that's it as far as things I want to

accomplish in 2017. Overall in 2016 I

think I did pretty well with the goals

that I set for myself. I obviously

still need work on balancing my hobbies

but I'm happy with what I was able to

accomplish in 2016 and I'm excited to be

participating in other challenges and

things in 2017. I've had this channel for

a little over a year now and I really

appreciate all the comments and

subscribers and I'm looking forward to

chatting with more of you in 2017.

Thank you so much for watching, thank you

for subscribing.

I hope you all have an amazing 2017 and

until next time, Take Care and Smi-Le

Always. Bye!

Korean Spa Review - Massage Monday #323 - Duration: 4:33.

Hi everyone, this is Yasuko and it's time for Massage Monday.

Today I'm at Riviera Health Spa in Torrance, California.

It's a Korean Spa. For those who don't know about Korean Spa it's very different from American Spa

so this will be a good introduction for you.

When you check in you are given your locker key, bath towel and their uniform.

This is the last picture I can take here since once you enter either women's or men's locker

room you will see naked people.

Here is the locker room

So here are the interior pictures from their website.

There are showers and individual stalls to clean yourself before you go into the pools.

They have dry sauna, and also steam sauna, different pools with warm water, hot water

and cold water.

Unlike the American spa bathing suits are not allowed and you have to enter these pools

naked.

So if you are not comfortable showing your birthday suit this place is really not for

you.

I grew up in Japan and I'm used to public hot springs so I have no problem with this

setting.

Behind this wall is the area for the body scrub.

For the Korean body scrub you lie on a table and a lady usually in a black lacy bra and

panties scrubs every square inch of your body from the neck down using the exfoliation mitt

like this.

Of course a male staff will scrub if you are a man.

Again you are completely naked on the table and they will open your legs and scrub very

close to your personal area so if you are not comfortable exposing yourself or have

very sensitive skin this is not really for you.

You take the elevator to go upstairs to the common area.

The common area is co-ed and you're required to wear their uniform they give you at the

checkin.

At the food counter you can order Korean dishes priced around $10-20.

Larger dishes are good for sharing.

Here's my favorite called Bibimbap.

It's a veggie dish with a fried egg on top.

You mix in with rice with spicy sauce called kochujang.

Korean food comes with side dishes so you get to eat variety of food and they are yummy

too.

Here's the dessert counter where you can order the shaved ice cream and other sweets and

drinks.

When you order food you just show your locker key and you pay at the checkout so you don't

have to carry your wallet with you.

Also in the common area there are different saunas such as salt, clay, and cold room.

Each room has the temperature displayed so you know what to expect.

The floor is usually heated and it's so nice to lie down.

They have pads and pillows so you can take a nap or browse the internet using their free

Wi-Fi.

And my lucky friend may get a massage while we're here.

This place is perfect for individuals, couples, families and you can spend hours.

They have TVs, Fitness Room and even PC Room.

They are open 8am-midnight.

The admission is $25 but if you go to their website, there is $5 coupon under specials.

It's even cheaper when you get coupon booklet.

They also have massage.

Sometimes they do Ashiatsu where they get up on you holding onto the bar and massage

you with their feet.

If you get their massage service, the admission is free.

I love going to a Korean Spa on my day off and I usually spend 6-8 hours no problem.

I like going there on weekdays because it gets busier and noisier on weekends.

Thanks for watching.

I'll see you back next week.

Make it a great week.

Sony vs Canon Color, Ordering from AMAZON in Korea - SEOUL VLOG : 아마존 직구, 소니 VS 캐논 색감 : 서울 브이로그 - Duration: 13:54.

밥이 없어? Oh, we don't have any rice?

There's a little.

Every Korean has a rice stash like this, if they're a real Korean.

What are you making today?

Today, mushroom burger.

They call that stuffed mushrooms.

Yeah, stuffed mushrooms :)

Koreans eat a lot of ground beef from Australia

한우는 너무 비싸거든요. and the U.S. these days because Korean beef is so expensive.

And then this is Korean pork.

Oh, so you're also going to make banchan right.

This is for spinach side dish (banchan).

Have you noticed that a lot of camera gear that I buy…

They break.

Yeah, we returned a lot.

It's kind of crazy right?

Yeah, it's weird.

I don't remember long time ago buying camera equipment and things breaking this much.

That's right.

It's kind of weird. Before I had this camera I had an NX1, and it was defective.

It had a lens problem and a body problem.

And then we bought a Panasonic G84 and that also had a lens problem and a body problem.

G84?

G85.

Yeah, it was the new one.

And this is the Sony RX100 mark 4. Aekyeong bought it for me.

I think there's no problems, because I bought it.

Like whenever I buy something it breaks, or it's defective.

Like I bought that Joby, and it just broke, I just got it.

I been using it for like literally like 2, 3 days now, and it just broke.

So I'm sending it back, and they're sending me a new one.

Amazon, it's like, this is international shipping, but they're really good about

제품이 불량이거나 품질이 맘에 안 들면 if something is broken or defective or you're not happy with it,

쉽게 교환해주거나 환불해줘서 좋아요. they'll take the product back and replace it or give you a refund.

And they'll also pay for the return shipping charges, right?

Yeah, if the product is defective.

These are Korean mushrooms right?

Yeah. They smell like wood.

Do they make cross marks like this for stuffed mushrooms in the States?

Yeah, I've seen that design in restaurants.

The only people that I know who makes stuffed mushrooms are Italians.

Sometimes they fill it with seafood like clams, like chopped up clams and crab and stuff.

Crab sound delicious.

We decided on this camera, because it's small and its got that flip up screen,

그리고 슬로우 모션 촬영도 되죠. but also because it's got slow motion,

이유는 모르겠지만 이 카메라가 미국에서보다 한국에서 훨씬 더 쌌어요. and it was so much cheaper in Korea than it is in the States for some reason.

And usually cameras are more expensive in Korea,

하지만 소니 카메라에서 마음에 안 드는 한 가지는 색감이 정말 구리다는 거예요. but one thing that we don't really like about Sony is that the colors are really terrible.

But we thought we're vlogging with it, putting it up on Youtube,

이만하면 괜찮겠죠, 많은 사람들이 사용하고 있기도 해서 다들 이 색감에 익숙한 것 같아요. and it's fine, a lot of people use it, so I think people are getting used to Sony colors.

The yellows are like, they look toxic sometimes. It just looks muddy, you know. Right?

응. Yeah.

And I think a lot of Koreans know that, so that's why a lot of Koreans really like Canon cameras.

Because they think that Canon cameras produce really good colors.

So when you go to areas where they sell cameras in Korea, it's like crazy

캐논 카메라를 정말 많이 팔고 소니나 파나소닉 제품은 많지 않거든요. because they sell so much Canon stuff, and very limited amounts of like Sony or Panasonic.

But I bought this color profile from Eoshd forum.

He created settings for Sony cameras to kind of emulate Canon cameras,

더 따뜻한 색감이에요. so you get better looking skin tones. You get warmer colors.

Even the pictures that I've been taking are so much nicer, right?

It doesn't look like a Sony camera. I mean it doesn't really look exactly like a Canon camera.

It looks more realistic.

But Woody did you set the white balance?

Yeah, I set it before I started shooting.

You used a grey card?

I white balanced this with a grey card…

그레이 카드도 아내가 준 선물이에요. which was another gift she got me.

That's not going to break either, because I bought it for you :)

She's really into the fact that we started vlogging,

아내는 제가 영상 제작에 무슨 불편한 점은 없는지 살펴보면서 많이 도와주고 있어요. so she's supporting me a lot and making sure that if I'm unhappy about something

우리는 함께 해결 방법을 찾으려고 노력하죠. we try to figure out a way together to resolve it.

So you chopped some garlic and you're putting it in here?

This is stuffed mushrooms, and this is spinach side dish.

We (she means "you" *_*) didn't buy scallions?

Oh, I forgot.

If the spinach side dish doesn't taste good, don't complain to me.

Do you really need it? I can go out and buy it.

No, it's okay.

So my producer's name is JJ. I call him JJ.

He told me that a big Korean media company bought the remake rights to Entourage.

He said it's bombing, like it's doing really terrible.

It's kind of bad news for me, because I wrote a script that I was developing before.

Faustian story about an actor who sells his soul to achieve fame and success.

It had some interest, like some actors were interested and stuff,

어떤 제작사가 저와 함께 진행을 하고 있었어요. a production company was developing it with me.

But when we were developing it, 2 movies came out that year about actors,

벌써 4년 전인데, 타이밍이 좋지 않았죠. and they both tanked. And this was four years ago, so it wasn't a good time for it.

You remember that?

응. Yeah.

So he's been working on some projects with some other production companies

So I was like hey maybe we could pitch that Faust project again.

And he said that, that's why he mentioned that Entourage remake and he said that

Koreans these days are having like a hard time getting by.

It's tough economically in Korea,

So they don't want to see images of movies and TVs about people who are successful actors

And acting spoiled and going to parties and stuff like that.

It's just not the kind of story that people are interested in these days.

They're more interested in social justice stuff or

Stories about people who are having a hard time and overcoming that.

Do you agree with that?

Yeah. Because of what's going on with the President now,

All the movies that are doing well are about social justice.

Right.

Because we need those kind of stories right now.

And I don't know anything about that, so I can't write that stuff.

You know my script has some kind of social commentary, but…

It's not localized.

It's a little localized. But I think it's definitely that milieu of that environment of

Rich people and big companies and stuff.

응. Yeah.

This indie script is very specific though right.

It's not like a genre movie though the one that I'm going to preproduction.

It's basically our story. It's like a version of when we first got married and stuff.

It's like a story about a gyopo who marries a Korean woman, and the stuff that they go through.

Like culturally the differences.

These spinach leaves are so small making it really difficult to clean.

So what are you doing now?

I'm chopping onion and mushroom stems.

You're gonna put that in here, right?

응. Yeah.

Thanks for helping.

I take care of all the food waste, because Aekyeong doesn't like to touch this stuff.

Koreans are really serious about recycling, right.

Korea is small, so it doesn't have a lot of land.

The worst is like when you're eating spinach, and you get that grit in your mouth.

Although, there's some people now they say that eating a little dirt is good for you,

Because there's these bacteria in the dirt called soil bacteria supposedly

That it has some health benefits.

They say if you're getting your vegetables from a good farm where they're not using pesticides

'살벌레제'같은 거요. '살벌레제'라고 하나?? Or like any insecticides and stuff. Do they say insecticides?

Is insecticide a word? Pesticide.

Now that I've been living in Korea my English has gotten so terrible. Insecticide!

Your face is turning red.

Pesticide!

You know there was another bird flu breakout in Korea?

So they're killing all these chickens again. They're killing thousands of chickens.

Because they're afraid that the bird flu is going to start spreading again.

That's so crazy right?

응. Yeah.

You know Zika is spreading all over Southeast Asia,

So this summer they were spraying so much pesticides in this neighborhood.

Because we're near the Han River, trying to kill all the mosquitoes.

But that stuff can't be good for you either. Right? That pesticide.

It's like a truck going by…

It's a truck, a truck goes by in the street and there's a cloud of smoke behind it that they're releasing…

To kill all the mosquitoes.

And it's like kids are playing in the street, they're chasing the truck.

It's like a yellow cloud of like poison, and the kids are like chasing it, you know.

While they're screaming.

So how long do you blanche this for?

About a minute and 30 seconds.

I found this in the spinach. It's a snail.

Hold on, I can't get focus.

You see it?

So she just found this snail from the spinach. It's kind of cute.

Yeah. It's cute. She would raise it?

You want to raise it?

Let's keep it.

It's leaving a sticky trail on my hand.

That's slime on her finger.

What are we going to do with it? I feel bad.

It' cute, right?

They must've not used a lot of pesticide on that spinach.

So she squeezed all that spinach into this wad. She squeezed all the water out and cut it up.

And chop it.

And put it in with the garlic.

It's also supposed to have scallions.

It's supposed to have scallions….

It needs scallions…

But I forgot, sorry baby.

So you're gonna crack an egg.

So you put half an egg in here.

So that's soy sauce.

She's putting in some black pepper.

In Korea, they have soy sauce for cooking, seasoning and then they have soy sauce for soup.

응. Yeah.

Some sesame seeds.

Really just a little.

Some apple cider vinegar.

And then this is a spoon of that soup soy sauce.

What's this? This is like the secret recipe. The secret ingredient.

Your second aunt gave us this sesame seed oil.

So my second aunt, my oldest aunt gave me us the sesame seeds,

And my second aunt gave us that homemade sesame oil.

And then she's adding this other…

Sesame oil.

So if you want to make this it's pretty simple

And you don't need to use the two different types of sesame oil and soy sauce.

Just use one type, one type.

And that's it right?

So we put it in these glass containers and then this is what Koreans do.

And then we eat it, we take out a little by little every time we eat. Right?

It's a side dish, like what she's doing now.

And this'll last us like four days.

So she's saying that her back aches, so I have to give her a massage tonight, right?

For real?! :D

Alright, this is the money shot. What we've been waiting for.

So it's all done huh?

Let's eat.

So this Korean style stuffed mushrooms.

And soy sauce with vinegar, you know. So it gives it that nice salty tart flavor.

Good job baby.

A little bit tired. My stomach is too heavy.

It's heavy, right?

응. Yeah.

This is the heaviest you've been now with the pregnancy.

Yeah, 9 months.

9 months.

You can do it! You can do it. Fighting!

Tom's Excellent Adventure! - Duration: 3:40.

Imagine a person, say "Tom," who is

told to describe a particular location

or event at some point in time.

Tom

is not told anything about when or

where this location or event happens to be.

Indeed, this location or event is simply

called a "target" in a generic fashion,

and he is told to describe "the target,"

whatever it may be.

He then goes into

a room that is ideally designed for

such purposes.

The colors of the walls

are bland, as is the color of the carpet

on the floor.

There are no pictures on

the wall to distract him.

The doors of

the room are closed, and in the room is

only one desk, located in the room's

center, and pointed toward a corner

rather than a wall.

Any recording

equipment in the room is located behind

the desk so that it remains out of his view.

Tom has just completed a "cool down"

period that settles his mind, and he sits

down at the desk and begins writing on

pieces of plain white paper.

Approximately one hour later,

Tom emerges from the room with,

say, 20 pieces of paper containing

detailed descriptions of the target.

The descriptions include accurate

sketches of the target, plus verbal

descriptions of people, activity, and

things that are at the target location.

He did this without being told anything

at all about the target.

Only after

Tom completes his written description

is he told what the target actually is.

If the above scenario is not

mind-boggling enough, consider the

fact that Tom is able to do this same feat

even if the target has not yet been chosen

at the time he is writing his descriptions

of the target!

That is, he not only is describing the

target accurately, he is describing the

target that will be chosen only in the

future.

Moreover, the person who will

choose the target will be given no

information regarding Tom's description

of the target.

Both will be "blind" to one

another.

What Tom is doing is "remote viewing."

What he is also doing is forever changing

the way humans conceive of their

own existence.

The study of remote viewing

is a relatively new scientific field,

and there has been tremendous

controversy about it in recent years.

It would be wrong for me to disparage

those who have doubts about even the

possibility of remote viewing.

There

are real reasons for such doubts.

I can

say this even though there is no doubt

in my mind that remote viewing is a

real phenomenon, and that the widespread

recognition of this phenomenon will bring

fundamental change to science and society.

But before discussing the legitimacy of

doubt, it is important to define what we

are talking about when we discuss

remote viewing.

Meanwhile, please

like and subscribe.

And I will see you next time.
