You were finally able to get in touch with the recruiter from your dream company.
You started exchanging emails, had a great conversation.
She thought you were really smart and you would fit the culture there.
You were getting excited and you finally got that email
saying, "hey you know what we might
be having a job opening that will be perfect for you!
Why don't you send in your CV?
But then came the most dreaded line in that email.
Please attach a cover letter!
The first part of your cover letter is probably the most simple of all
and we'll call it the Header.
What comprises the Header?
It's simply your Name, your Email address and your Phone number.
Make sure you have a professional email address
and you are not using the one's you used to use
while you were in your high school.
The second part of the cover letter is called the greeting.
Now what you have to do is figure out the name of the hiring manager.
Do some research, go on LinkedIn and figure out
who is the person who is going to be reading
your cover letter and address it to them.
Start with Dear Ms. Jones or whatever their Last name is.
When it comes to First name Vs Last name,
always use the Last name of the person you are writing to.
Up next is the Opening Paragraph.
And here you need to tell the recruiter how excited
you are about this role and how you are the
perfect fit for the role.
You need to convince them to go through your CV
and how it would be a monumentally stupid idea to not hire you.
You can write something like, "I am enthusiastic about marketing which is why I am incredibly
happy to be applying for such and such role at your esteemed organization.
You can mention brief highlights from your previous job roles
that makes you a perfect fit for this job.
Now what you already did in the previous paragraph
is tell the company what you bring to the
table and why they should consider you.
Now let's turn around the tables
and you tell them, why they are a perfect fit for you.
Talk about what you like the most about this company in particular,
maybe it's their culture,
maybe it's some of the projects they have been working on
and you feel it will be a great experience for you
and how you will be able to contribute to those projects.
And finally we come to the closing paragraph.
What you need to do here is make sure you don't appear too needy and say something like,
"I hope you will consider me for this position".
You should also not use cliched lines such as,
"Thank You for your consideration and your time".
How about you simply say something like,
"I would love the opportunity to discuss how
my experience in the previous companies
will help grow the new company that you are applying to."
And you can sign off with "Regards" and your name.
And now you can reply to the recruiter from your dream company.
Send in your cover letter and I am sure they'll be impressed.
