First Thoughts on Raising Money - Duration: 5:02.

Hi, this is Julie Hennrikus from Your Ladders. Your Ladders is an online business school built specifically for performing artists to help you do

your work. I have an ongoing series called 5 Arts Thoughts, and today's topic is going to be about raising money.

Now, whether you're for profit, a nonprofit, an individual, or group, chances are at some point you're going to have to think about raising

money one way or the other. So here today are five tips for thinking about how to start in that process. Again classes like my my MONEY

class and to a certain extent my MARKETING class, we talk about this in greater depth. And certainly in FOOTING YOUR LADDER we talk

about how to build a business plan that can help you raise money. But let's talk about five things you should think about now as you're

getting ready to raise some money. #1: how are other folks in your community raising money. Are they doing Kickstarters or

Indiegogos? Do they have galas? Do they have parties? Do they have pass the hats? What are they doing? So follow along and try

to learn from their success and glean whether or not it's working, and take some tips and tricks from the way other people are already

doing it. Maybe you want to go in a different direction, or maybe you want to build on their success.

#2, when you go to other events read programs or look at signage and see who is sponsoring the events. Is there a local food

vendor or there's a bank or there's somebody else who is constantly sponsoring these sorts of events, taken note of those. They may be

willing to sponsor all kinds of arts events, especially if these are arts events that are like your arts events. Right? So if you go a huge

theater company, that may not be where you're going to find your sponsorship package. But if you go to a fringe company and they have four

people sponsoring the event, write those people down and start looking them up. They may be willing to sponsor your work is well. #3

Check in with your local cultural council. certainly your statewide cultural council, your city, your town, your county, whatever it is.

They may have grants that they'll give to artists, so check that out. They also may have resources that

they can point you to. They may have information sessions

or they might have somebody in the office you can make an appointment with to talk about this very topic. You never know who in your

community is also supporting local events. So the local cultural councils are a great resource. #4, is there a foundation in your community

that seems to support the arts? Do they have An arts funding cycle to look up on their site? Do they have info sessions? Go to those info

sessions. I talk about this a lot in the MONEY class, about how to reach out and how to build relationships

but let me tell you this right now. People give people money, so you need to connect with individuals so a foundation is a foundation

but their officers who are human beings. So reach out, see what you can do, add them to your mailing list, have conversations

If you don't get a grant, thank them anyway. Go to info sessions. All this stuff. We go into this a lot more in depth in the MONEY class.

But these are some ideas right now for building relationships with foundations, who may be willing to fund

your size organization or your specific project. And finally the last thing I want you to know or to think about is you don't need to be a

nonprofit to apply for a grant. You can have a fiscal sponsor. So look that up Google, see if there are fiscal sponsors in your community

that you can go to. I don't suggest becoming a nonprofit right away because you can raise money or you can get grants. Running a

nonprofit takes a lot of extra work. And it's something--a bigger conversation for another video at another time I'm sure--but you don't

have to be a nonprofit to get a grant. So look into fiscal sponsorships and see who does them in your community. And reach out to them

to get information about how that works. So thank you so much for being part of this conversation. Money is a tricky conversation

in the arts. I know you know that. But we need to talk about them so that you can figure out how to get the money in order to make your

work. It's not impossible, it's easy. There aren't magic unicorns who are going to spit pots of gold at you, but there are ways that you can

start attracting conversations or people who might be interested, or are thinking about this as you're looking for investors or funders

depending on what you're working on. Make sure that you subscribe to this YouTube channel, and that you like Your Ladders on

Facebook, you follow Your Ladders on Instagram, and that you've gone to YourLadders.com to check out the classes

that I offer, to read the blog, and to sign up for our newsletters and updates. Thank you so much for listening to this into this video.

I'll see you next time.

Horne Street Dental - Dental Hygiene with Nav - Duration: 3:15.

Hi it's Bek here from Sunbury Local Businesses

and I'm here with Nav from the Horne Street Dental Group.

How are you Nav?

Very good thank you. Nice seeing you Bek. How are you?

Yeah good thank you.

Now as the dental hygienist here.

We all know that we should brush twice a day

and you know all those usual sorts of things

floss, etc. We get told it in school

and we follow through but what's the role of

a hygienist? Why should we be coming to see you?

Yes, that's true that we brush our teeth twice a day

clean in between twice a day.

But there are hard-to-reach places or areas in the mouth where

no matter how good your brushing and cleaning in between is

you tend to leave some plaque behind.

All the time the bacteria builds up and that causes infection

and so the role of

seeing a hygienist on regular basis is we pick on those

areas where there's infection

at it's early stage so that prevents you from

having more discomfort, pain and having more expensive treatments.

Yeah, okay.

So it's like nipping the problem in the bud.

And what is involved in that sort of appointment?

Usually hygienist visit involves doing a thorough checkup.

So we'll check all the soft tissues

check for any signs of cancer in the mouth.

Check all the teeth if there's any obvious signs of decay

Sometimes take x-rays as well

and measure around the gums.

So that measurements are like dipstick tests.

So we're checking how deep the probe will go.

Usually in health you would have measurements

between one to three millimetres.

If someone has health-

Gum disease, their numbers will be higher than three.

So anything which is four millimetres

and above usually would indicate a problem.

Right, Okay.

And so between visits, I suppose

or should I ask, how often should we be having those visits?

That really

caters for individual need

so ideally if you are a healthy individual

you don't have any underlying medical conditions

that would make you more prone to gum disease.

Then, twice a year.

We have some clients they have impeccable oral hygiene.

They only need to see us once a year.

But then we have some who are more prone to gum disease

or they already have gum disease.

Smokers, they tend to see us more regularly.

Maybe three months, four months. So it's tailor-made

Fair call.

And so in between then, what can we be doing?

In between those appointment times what should we do at home?

In between brush twice a day.

Cleaning between the teeth once a day is a must

Twice a day is very good.

And at night leave the toothpaste on the teeth.

So after brushing spit out, but don't rinse.

So a bit of the fluoride in the saliva

helps to reduce the risk of decay.

Provided your toothpaste has fluoride in it.

Awesome. Well, thank you so much for your time Nav.

And hopefully everyone is taking your tips

and looking after their teeth.

Thank you.

It Sounds Like ... Onomatopoeia! - Duration: 5:46.

The world is full of different sounds.

Some sounds are pleasing to hear, like a bird's voice.

Other sounds hurt your ears, like a loud machine.

But how do we explain in words what a sound is?

For example, how do you describe the sound a dog makes?

Also, does everyone hear that sound the same way?

Every language in the world has words that express sounds.

These are called onomatopoetic words.

When a person says an onomatopoetic word, the sound of the word copies the natural sound

the word is identifying.

Let's say you walk past an angry dog.

What sound does the dog make?

Woof.

Woof.

Woof.

When a native English-speaker says the word woof, the pronunciation is somewhat similar

to the sound the dog makes.

But, a native Russian-speaker would not agree.

They would say dogs make the sound gav gav.

A native Korean-speaker would say mung mung.

These sounds are expressed differently in different languages because every language

uses sound in different ways.

The noises animals make are not the only examples of onomatopoetic words.

Imagine you are walking down a street on a rainy day.

A car drives by very fast.

Zoom.

As the car passes you, it drives through some water.

Splash.

You close the front of your jacket to protect yourself.

Zip.

These words are all nouns that express the sound effect you are hearing.

Some sounds even define the objects that make them.

Do you remember closing your jacket to protect yourself?

The zipper is the object that connects the front parts of a jacket by joining the sets

of metal teeth along the edges.

In comic books, we often see these sound effects written in the pictures.

These words help the reader imagine sounds in the story.

Onomatopoetic words are not only nouns, though.

Imagine you are in a quiet restaurant.

Suddenly, the people next to you start to have an argument.

Anna: I can't believe you lied to me!

Jonathan: Shhhh!

We are in public!

Anna: Don't shhhh me!

When you tell someone shhhh, you are saying the situation requires quiet.

In the conversation you just heard, Anna responds to Jonathan by saying "Don't shhhh me."

In this case, Anna is using shhhh as a verb.

She means to say, "Don't tell me to be quiet."

Another example is one you probably hear every day.

When you use a computer, you choose objects on the screen using a device called a mouse.

Click.

But, the action of choosing an object on a computer screen using a mouse is called clicking.

Now think back to the car passing you very quickly in the rain.

What was the sound it made?

Zoom.

But, you can also say, "The car zoomed by me."

This means the car drove by you at a very high speed.

Sometimes, onomatopoetic words are even used as adjectives.

If you see something explode, you will often see the word boom used to describe the sound.

This is because the sound of an explosion is low and deep, the way English speakers

pronounce the word boom.

Now listen to the actor James Earl Jones.

"Look, I can't tell you the secret of life, and I don't have any answers for you.

I don't give interviews and I'm no longer a public figure.

I just want to be left alone."

His voice sounds low and deep.

You could say his voice is booming.

Onomatopoetic words are not often used in formal language.

But they are very common in everyday speech and there are hundreds of examples.

They make languages more creative.

Writers and musicians have used these types of words for many years to find a connection

with the natural world.

Less is more - Would you prefer more subtle lighting used by your DJ? - Duration: 1:07.

Most brides work really hard to make the room look beautiful at the wedding venue

and often what happens after the meal the DJ marches in with tons of

metalwork and scaffolding and poles and completely destroys the look the

bride has worked so hard to make look absolutely stunning.

Less is more as far as I'm concerned,

I use probably less lighting than any DJ in the country because

I realise how hard the brides worked to make the room look beautiful but

secondly, lasers going everywhere and lights spinning around;

a lot of people don't like that at a wedding

especially elderly people they hate lights going in their eyes.

So I use lights- enough light to entice people onto the dance floor,

but it's about creating a great atmosphere, because most people they see

loads and loads of lights and for the first 5 seconds they might say

"oh yeah, that looks good" and then

they've completely forgotten about it. It's about less is more about being

minimalistic is my approach to lighting; you can still get a great effect

without having to use loads of lights.

Cafe Circe - helping you with your catering needs - Duration: 1:29.

Hi, it's Bek here from Sunbury Local Businesses

and I'm here with the lovely Nat at Cafe Circe.

How are you Nat?

Good thanks Bek.

That's good. Now I wanted to talk to you

you know, we're often in here for breakfast or lunch or whatever

But what if we wanted to maybe bring that home

if we have an event coming up or anything

do you guys offer catering?

We do. We do a lot of catering for people around the area

and outside the area as well.

We do sandwich platters.

Hot and cold foods.

Salads, cakes. Anything you want we can do.

Okay, and so in terms of if I had something coming up or

I suppose an office meeting or anything.

How much notice what I have to give you guys?

Ideally, we'd like at least 48 hours notice.

The more notice we have the better.

But you know a minimum of 48 hours would be ideal.

Okay, just to make sure that you guys have everything on hand

and that you can cater for exactly what they're asking for

and then also that would mean Christmas and stuff. Correct?

So people could arrange that for Christmas?

Yes, we are getting a lot of Christmas orders already.

So yeah, a lot of

lasagnas, I suppose it's quick and easy

for people to warm up and and serve.

So, the more notice we have for that the better.

At that time of year especially.

Wow, maybe I might have to order some for when we go to Sydney

You know, I can have all my meals prepped.

Freeze them and off you go.

[laughter] I love it.

That's awesome.

Well, thanks so much for your time Nat.

And we'll try and spread the word.

No worries. Thank you

Sims Big Brother - Season 1 (Ep. 33) | The Jury | TURN ON SUBTITLES - Duration: 13:03.

Mark: Well, I don't think it's Cris. She put herself in an amazing position. I'm not even saying this just because we're seeing each other. She really did a good job setting herself in a great position!

AJ: I can compare Justin to Ashli from my season, where he played two sides and was quiet. Then got Evicted, returned, and stepped it up in the final half of the game. I wanna ask Cris, since you've been quiet, how do you feel about Justin?

Avery: Appreciated, hehehe!

that gift is not a what it's a whom. On the 25th of December we celebrate the

God who is with us. The greatest news of all, however, is that in fact he's already
