Waching daily Jan 4 2017

Hi, everybody. It's Katie. Today, I want to talk to you about something that's a

little controversial, and that is consuming your placenta. That's right.

I'm talking about consuming that big, bloody, blobby thing that you have to have

after your baby comes out. When they told me there was something else coming,

I was like, "What? Really?" And out it came. But, anyway, yeah. So we're going to

talk about that today. Before we go any further, I, obviously, am going to give

you a little disclaimer, and that is, I'm not a doctor. And if I was, I would

probably be like, "Don't eat that. That's gross. There's no medical studies.

Blah, blah, blah." Anyway, I'm not a doctor and I kind of err a little bit more

towards the "crunchy" side of things. And so when I first heard about this,

it was in preparation for my first daughter being born, and I saw midwives

for her. And they asked if I was interested in it, and I was like, "You

want me to do what?" So I went home and read about it and here is what I found.

These are the claims that placenta and eating your placenta could

potentially do for you. One was to help with mood swings, help with postpartum

depression, help with milk supply. Hear my little baby back there.

So, these were all things, especially the postpartum depression,

and energy levels, it could help with your energy levels. Those were some of the

things that I'm like, "Okay, this sounds pretty good because I don't know what I'm

getting myself into, but I'm betting I'm going to be tired." So, I had the midwives

work with a lady, and I had my placenta encapsulated. There's a couple of

different ways that you can consume your placenta, and one of the least disgusting

ways...actually I shouldn't say that. Whatever you choose, different strokes for

different folks. But for me, the least weird way that I could think of was to

have my placenta encapsulated. So, they basically take your placenta,

they dehydrate it, pulverize it down into a fine powder, put it into the little gel

pill things, and you take them. So, I did that with my first daughter,

and I also did it with my second daughter. Now with my first daughter, unfortunately,

there were some other things at play, and I didn't take the placenta

pills as long as I wished that I had. But I had some other medical things happening,

and so I stopped taking them. And I'm kind of bummed because I'd like to be able

to say, you know, that I had this great experience. So, for my second one,

I decided to do the same thing, but I also decided to do something in addition to

that. So, I have a few left. These are my encapsulated placenta pills.

And then I also decided to do a tincture. This right here, I haven't tried it yet,

this is for later. But basically, it's a strip of the placenta

chopped up and it's steeped in a high-grade vodka. And so, it's supposed to

do the same thing that the pills do, it's just a different, different way to take

it, I guess. So, I have been taking the placenta pills, and one thing that I have

noticed, like really noticed, is what it does for my milk supply.

Now, I've done...in a past video, I talked about my overactive letdown and so,

I was thinking, "Okay, do I really need to take this if I have overactive let down?

Do I need help with this?" But I did some research and I actually found an article

by a woman who was fearing the same thing. And she took it, and it actually kind of

helped calm her overactive letdown. So, I thought, "Okay, well, let's see how this

goes." And so I've continued to take it, and there was a period where I dropped off

as I was researching because I was afraid that I was just going to firehose

my kid to death.

So I stopped for a little while until I found that article. Then I started back

up, and I noticed, actually, awesomely enough, I noticed that my letdown was not

quite as abrupt or "fire-hose-ish." There's that pins-and-needles feeling when you get

your letdown, and it wasn't nearly as intense. And so, I've been kind of

just excited about the fact that that's helped. And I'm sure my kiddo is probably

happy about that too, as well. Anyway, if you are considering it,

I would encourage you to do research on it because I'm not...she's getting tired

of her swing. I would encourage you to do the research because

it's probably not for everybody. And I know that the medical community.....

there's definitely opinions about it by the medical community.

But if you're interested in it, give it a try and do some research,

look up some websites. So, that's it. Okay. Thank you guys so much for watching.

Ancient Egypt - Concepts of the Afterlife (1/2) - Duration: 8:42.

In this morbid but fascinating part of our journey through the world of Oriental beliefs,

we will explore together ancient Egyptian concepts of the afterlife, or in other words,

"life" after death and the afterworld, or in other words, the world after the "regular" world.

The ancient Egyptians don't seem to have made much of a distinction between such an

afterworld and the place where the gods dwelt.

Connections between the "regular" world and the afterworld could occur on a spiritual

level through dreams, visions and the like.

In others words, for the ancient Egyptians, death meant "only" the end of earthly life.

But at the same time, it meant the beginning of another form of life in the next world,

in the form of a transformation into a soul or a spirit.

In the Egyptian imagination, the process of dying and subsequent rebirth

is intimately linked to the course of the sun.

In the first week of this course, we saw that the Sun, with its light and heat,

was considered a necessary element in the birth of all life.

That's why the process of dying and rebirth was associated with the course of the Sun

over 24 hours every day.

Before explaining how this worked, let me first explain how the ancient Egyptians pictured

this daily course of the sun.

First, there is the Earth, which is the world of the living.

During the twelve hours of the day, the god Re "navigates" the sky in his "day boat" or mandjet

and crosses it from sunrise to sunset, including its zenithal location.

During this daytime period the god Re takes the shape of Re-Horakhty,

"Re of the two horizons", with the head of a falcon.

After traveling the sky in his "day boat", Re changes his appearance at dusk

and turns into the so-called "aged sun", depicted with the head of a ram.

Secondly, there is the area beneath the Earth, the underworld, which the Egyptians called the Duat.

During the twelve hours of the night, the god Re "navigates" the underworld in his "evening boat" or mesketet.

At the dawn of the following day, the god Re is reborn, in the appearance of the god

Khepri, with the head of a beetle.

Now, let's have a look at how this daily movement of the sun is related to the death

of a human being, as it is described in a well-known text called the Book of the Dead.

This Book of the Dead is an ancient Egyptian funerary text, used from the beginning of

the New Kingdom onwards (that is, from about 1550 BCE) and mostly written on papyrus scrolls.

In fact, the original Egyptian name of the text should be translated as The Book of Coming Forth by Day

and this title is actually more revealing than the simplified "Book of the Dead", as we will very quickly see.

The ancient Egyptians believed that it was important for a deceased person to be

constantly exposed to the light and the heat of the sun.

That is why the deceased was believed to follow the god Re in his everyday journey.

During the night, the sun travelled in the underworld, the Duat,

and provided light to the dead that lay there, beneath the Earth.

During the day, the dead were believed to crave the act of "coming forth by day".

This expression "coming forth by day" means "emerging forth into the light",

or in other words, the daily rebirth of the dead, just as the sun reappears each morning.

In the different copies of The Book of the Dead that survive up to the present day,

there is much variety with regard to the choice, the number,

the length and the order of the different formulas that could be used.

These papyrus scrolls were manufactured in specialized workshops and contained texts that were pre-formatted:

for any specific deceased individual, one just needed to insert the relevant names

and functions in the appropriate places.

Now that you understand the Egyptian concept of death and rebirth after death,

you are ready to tackle a closely related topic: the importance of the corpse and the tomb.

The Egyptians always clung to a fundamental belief in a direct connection

between this world and the underworld.

The most important physical link was the tomb, or a funerary stela.

The more lavish the burial was, the more successful the afterlife was expected to be.

But it is not only the tomb or stela that are fundamental to this belief,

but also the dead body of the deceased itself: the corpse!

In order to understand the importance of the corpse for the Egyptian concept of death and rebirth after death,

you should realise, first of all, that the Egyptians thought that all transformations in a soul or a spirit

began with a reawakening of the corpse, after it had been deposited in the tomb.

And that is why they always put considerable effort into preserving the human body intact.

The Egyptians conceived the preservation of the corpse as the preservation of the person's essence.

In this sense, mummy cases or statues could also provide the soul or spirit with temporary

resting places between two "journeys".

Now let's have a look at what happens after a person dies, in this view of life and death.

One particular chapter of the Book of the Dead describes how the deceased enters

the tomb and from there descends to the underworld.

At this stage, the corpse must regain the physical capabilities it had on earth.

But before this journey downwards, several other activities had to be carried out here on earth:

once the corpse had been placed in the tomb, the so-called "Opening of the Mouth" ceremony

had to be performed, and the spirit of the deceased had to be maintained through offerings and rituals.

And although the deceased was supposed to move on to a new life beyond the grave,

it was necessary to first restore the same powers that his or her mortal body had enjoyed upon earth:

senses, breathing, eating, speech, mobility of the limbs, and sexual potency.

At this stage, there are three more typically Egyptian concepts that need some explanation:

the Ka, the Ba and the Akh.

But let's take a break and then go to the second part of this unit to understand them.

The Bible doesn't talk about climate change, right? - Duration: 5:52.

(whirring)

- "I am an Evangelical,

"so climate can't be changing,

"because God's in control and not us.

"And even if it is,

"who cares?

"The world's gonna end anyways."

That's what all Evangelicals think, right?

(rewinding)

(dinging)

When we poll people in the United States

about whether they think climate

is changing because of humans,

and if we ask how worried they are about it,

it's true,

there is one group that ends up at the bottom,

and that is white Evangelicals.

Only 28% of us say that humans are responsible,

and curiously,

only 45% of white Catholics also agree,

compared to 77% of Hispanic Catholics.

But don't they have the same pope?

It isn't being Catholic or Evangelical

that makes us doubt the science,

it's something else.

What is an Evangelical anyways?

There are as many definitions for us

as there are books in the Bible,

so I'm gonna go with one I got from a man

name Lieth Anderson.

Leith is a pastor who's also the president

of the National Association of Evangelicals

in the United States,

so he knows his stuff,

and this is what he says.

"Evangelicals are people who take the Bible seriously."

Our first clue came from the poles,

and now for our second clue

we're gonna go to the Bible.

If Evangelicals take it seriously,

what does it have to say about climate change

and all that kind of stuff?

The first book in the first chapter is Genesis one.

It talks about how humans were made

in the image of God.

If you ever went to Sunday School

you probably heard that one.

But then it tells us why,

so that we, humans,

could be responsible for every living thing on the planet.

Now some translations turn that into

dominion over the earth.

But even so,

would we respect someone who had dominion

over a company or a nation

and ran it into the ground?

Of course not.

All of us respect wise stewardship

when it comes to being in charge of something,

and that's what Genesis is talking about.

We are stewards or caretakers of the people,

animals, plants,

and all living things on this planet.

Moving forward through the Bible

there's a lot of verses that speak

of God's love and care for creation.

But there are also a few verses

that people pick out and apply out of context

to support their point.

For example, there's a verse that says

there will always be seasons.

So people say, "Well, how can global warming be real

"if there always will be winter and summer?"

Well, did you know that seasons are caused by

the earth's orbit around the sun?

And humans aren't effecting that yet,

so of course there will always be

winter and summer here in the Northern Hemisphere,

they'll just be warmer.

Then there's the verse about how God

will never destroy the earth again with a flood.

And so people use that to say sea level isn't rising.

First of all, it is.

Thousands of gages around the world

are pretty clear on that.

But second,

even if all the ice sheets on earth melted

there would still be dry land left,

just not nearly as much.

And because so many of us live near the coastlines

it's estimated that about 1/3 of us,

that's 2 1/2 billion people,

live on land that would be under water

if the ice sheets melted.

But that doesn't mean the earth will be entirely destroyed.

So getting back to the main theme of the Bible,

in the New Testament we learn for example

of people who had quit their jobs

and were waiting around,

sitting on their hands,

for the world to end and Christ to return.

The Apostle Paul wrote to those people

in the letter to the Thessalonians,

and in no uncertain terms told them

to work with their hands.

In other words, to support their family.

And elsewhere,

to care for the widows and the orphans, too.

Whether we believe in the end of the world or not,

we're not supposed to be sitting around waiting for it,

because most of all,

throughout the entire Bible we find

verses about love for others,

particularly those less fortunate than ourselves.

And that,

as everyone from Pope Francis

to Leith Anderson reminds us,

is why we care about a changing climate.

Because it disproportionally effects the poor

and the vulnerable.

Those who if food prices double

can't afford to feed their families.

If sea level rises,

have nowhere to go.

If water runs out,

become refugees far from home.

It's crystal clear,

from both the social science and from the Bible,

that our objections to the science of climate change

have nothing to do with being religiously Evangelical.

They have everything to do with being

politically Evangelical.

As Galen Carey,

a former missionary and now the vice president

of the National Association of Evangelicals says,

"Many Evangelicals oppose actions to slow climate change

"not on a religious basis,

"but on a political one because they believe

"the government wants to take away their freedom."

Bishop Efraim Tondero is the Secretary General

of the World Evangelical Alliance,

representing 600 million people around the world.

He was also an official member of the Philippine

delegation to the Paris Climate Conference.

And when one Evangelical asked Bishop Ef

why he cares about climate change,

and then added,

"Don't you read the Scriptures?"

He replied, "Yes,

"I do read the Scriptures,

"and that's why I care."

You don't know what love is

Til you've learned the meaning of the blues

Until you've loved a love you've had to lose

You don't know what love is

You don't know how lips hurt

Until you've kissed and had to pay the cost

Until you've flipped your heart and you have lost

You don't know what love is

You don't know what love is

Til you've learned the meaning of the blues

Until you've loved a love you've had to lose

You don't know what love is

You don't know

Do you know how a lost heart fears

The thought of reminiscing

3 Tips for Comparing Car Insurance Rates | Allstate Insurance - Duration: 1:36.

Not sure where to begin with your car insurance quote comparison?

As you get several quotes, you'll want to make sure each quote has the same set of coverages,

limits and deductibles.

Auto liability coverage, which may help pay for car repair and medical bills of another

person if you cause an accident, is required in most states.

Additional coverage may be required, depending on your situation and your state's laws.

For example, uninsured motorist coverage is mandatory in some states.

And, if you're financing a vehicle, you may need comprehensive and collision coverage.

Make sure you select the same set of required and optional coverages for each quote you get.

A limit is the maximum amount a policy will pay for a covered loss.

Most states have minimum liability coverage limits that drivers must purchase.

You may also have the option to increase your liability limits.

Either way, make sure the limits you set for bodily injury liability coverage and

property damage liability coverage are the same for every quote you compare.

A deductible is the amount you'll pay out of pocket toward a covered claim.

Increasing your deductible may lower your car insurance premiums, but you'll typically

pay more out of pocket in the event of a claim.

To make an accurate comparison of car insurance rates, the deductibles you choose should be

the same for each quote you get.

These tips may help you better understand what each policy provides

so you can choose the one that's best for you!

How to Access Research Materials Using Google Scholar - Duration: 3:38.

Hello, and welcome to the Fogler Library tutorial about how to search for research materials

using Google Scholar.

Google Scholar is a version of the Google search engine interface designed specifically

to help researchers search for and find academic materials.

First, it's important to know that to make full use of Google Scholar and the University

of Maine's resources, you should go to Google Scholar through the library website.

That will let Google Scholar know that you're affiliated with the University of Maine, so

material that's accessible through Fogler Library will be accessible to you.

To get there from the library homepage, click on the Databases button.

Then click on the letter G at the list of letters at the top of the box.

From there, you can find and follow the link to Google Scholar.

The interface for Google Scholar looks a lot like the interface for Google, with a few

key differences.

Below the search box, it asks if you're looking for articles or case law.

Generally you'll be looking for articles, so you'll want to make sure that's the

option you've selected.

There's also a check box asking if you're looking for patents.

If you are, keep it checked, but if you're not, you can un-check the box, so you won't

be searching for material you don't need.

If you click on the downward pointing arrow on the right-hand side of the box, you can

access Google Scholar's advanced search function.

You can specify whether you're doing a search that includes all the words in your search

term, the exact phrase in your search term, at least one of the words in your search term,

or not the words in your search term.

For example, if you're searching for the word "march" because you want to find

information about musical marches, you could exclude words like "exercise" or "month"

so your search doesn't find articles about a different type of march or marching.

Or, for an even more accurate search, you could include march and music in the "all

the words in your search term" box, and then the search would only find articles or

books where those two words both occur.

You can decide if you want your search terms to appear anywhere in the article, or just

in the title.

Or you can select an author whose work you want to search, or a particular journal in

which you want to search.

Finally, you can select a range of dates—for example, if you only want to find materials

published between the years 1996 and 2004.

When you've conducted your search, you'll see a set of options on the left hand side

of the screen by which you can change or narrow your search results.

Notice that some of the titles of research material are in black type and some are blue.

Blue means that you can access that material online by clicking on the title; black means

that you'll have to look for it by searching for the title of the book or the journal through

our library catalog.

Notice that you have a list of options below each entry, including a list of other articles

that have cited this one and citation information.

Some search results may have links to the side—this means you can access them two

different ways—either through the article's host website or through Fogler Library resources.

For more information about searching in our library catalog, please consult our videos

"How to Search Using URSUS" or "How to Search Using OneSearch."

Thanks for watching this tutorial.

If you have other questions about how to use library resources or how to find material,

please visit our help desk on the first floor of the library or click on the Email a Librarian

button on the library home page to get in touch with us by text message, email, or online

chat.

We'll be happy to help you.

SNHU Advantage Offers Traditional College Courses in a Supportive Environment - Duration: 1:35.

SNHU Advantage is an opportunity to do

traditional college in a little bit of a

different way.

It's a reduced cost, commuter option

program accredited through Southern New

Hampshire University where students

attend classes in Salem.

This program serves as an option for students who are

looking for both affordability, smaller

class sizes and more support.

The learning environment is really what we

pride ourselves on. It's a small setting.

It's really hard to fall behind here

because of how the structure set up.

The professors are really focused on you.

Getting that hands-on experience with

teachers really helps me out.

What you're seeing is the more personal approach.

There's more support services, you're not

on your own here. You've got a team of

people that are here to support you.

We have a very proactive approach here

and so our advisors checking grades on a

weekly basis to catch those students

that are struggling and we have an

academic support center so students

could go get additional support outside

of the classroom.

We also have a set schedule. So classes are Monday through

rsday 8:00am to 1230.

That works perfectly so I get to work 40 hours a week plus go

to school full-time.

Some students just want that associates

degree and they want to go out and find

a job. So we have career counselors that

help them with that process. For a lot of

students they want to go on for a

bachelor's degree.

There's an automatic acceptance to any

one of the programs that Southern New

Hampshire University offers.

There are different ways that students can do

college and certain settings made better

suit the needs of a student so I think

it's important that guidance counselors

reach out and learn about SNHU Advantage.

NATALIE. WE WANTED TO CREATE

A SPOKESPERSON FOR THE CENTER.

JUST TO LET EVERYBODY KNOW THAT

IT WAS OUT THERE FOR EVERYBODY

IN THE COMMUNITY AND SO WE

THOUGHT WHAT IS THE ONE THING

IN THE AREA THAT PEOPLE TO

IDENTIFY WITH? IN THE ABINGDON

AREA IT IS THE WOLF AND THAT

GOES ALL THE WAY BACK TO DANIEL

BOONE AND WOLF HILLS, BECAUSE

THE WOLVES IN THE AREA HAD

CHASED OFF HIS DOGS I GUESS,

ANYWAY HE NAMED IT WOLF HILL.

WE GOT TO THINKING ABOUT IT AND

WE THOUGHT WE WANTED A

SPOKESPERSON SO WHY NOT A WOLF?

WHAT WE WANT TO NAME THIS WOLF?

WE OF THE COMMUNITY CENTER OF

ABINGDON BUT WE HAVE THREE VERY

SPECIFIC ROOMS IN THE CENTER

WHERE PEOPLE PLAN THEIR

PARTIES.

ONE IS THE VIRGINIA BALLROOM,

ONE IS THE DOGWOOD ROOM, ONE IS

THE CARDINAL ROOM. SO WE DECIDED

THAT THIS GIRL SHOULD BE NAMED
