JEDINA PRODUCTION presents
THIS IS HOW WE DO
My name is Toni, nickname Opty.
There is five of us, group is called Knin Rap.
We started, as a group, formed in 2008.
But every one of us, in a certain way, was in rap music before that.
We got together, and found a studio where to record.
I listen to rap since I can think back,
third grade, Eminem and like.
"Ups I did it again"
its Britney, oh well…
Than we started to record, eight mark microphones than ten, more expensive… This and that,
we got together, found Cvitke, the older guys.
They heard me rapping, they liked it, asked if they can come and record.
We liked their story, and what they have gone through.
At that time, I was writing about things I would like to happen,
they were writing about things they already went through, understand.
It was hard, we had no place to record, so we found a studio at S-Boys basement…
we didn't find a studio, we found a space, and the equipment we worked for, and that's a start.
So we basically made history when it comes to rap music in Knin. We published first mixtape in Knin.
My name is Katarino Savcic, known as Kety.
What I do for living, is breeding dogs.
Basically, working with dogs, and everything that comes along with that.
Adoption, rehabilitation of dogs that were in dogfights and such.
I work with many associations, mostly with the crew from American Stafford CRO
who work on breaking the judgmental opinions when it comes to this breed.
There is a big problem in Knin, when it comes to abandoned animals,
so I plan to start working on that as soon as possible.
My plan is to form an association which will handle the abandoned animals.
As I have been listening to rap music my whole life, my plan also, is to get that involved as well,
to point out the problems through some music projects.
First serious music experience that I had was, when we were kids, in my garage, we made a studio.
For example first tracks from Slaven and Denis were made there. Now they are part of Knin Rap.
Many other people recorded there.
Also, one of my future plans is to have my own Record Label. I dreamed about that since I was a kid.
- First time, when we performed here? Two thousand and…
- 2010 we had some performances. 2010 was the turning point.
First time I recorded a song, first time I stepped up to a mic.
- They called us to perform here. We made the stage…what was the stage made of?
- No, first time was at, what was the name... Babilon.
- Don't know, im talking about Rio, don't care about Babilon.
- Yes, we had some good performances there. Some of the best. It was sicker than Edo Maajka.
- Best thing is, you can feel the energy, support, people support you.
We rap and stop, and the people continue rapping.
That's when we got our first bra on the stage.
- Red one.
- Naughty, thank you, I am proud.
I remember a scene from the HV. People started to applaud at the end of the show,
and I said, we don't need applause, throw some money.
All of a sudden, everyone from the crowd started throwing money on stage.
And the guy that runs this place starts running and picking up the money.
Leave it, fuck, we need it, we didn't have any.
- That's it, here comes the guy, at whos place we record at. In his apartment below.
- Main producer, main vocal artist.
- Hi, my name is Slaven Anic, S-Boy. Ive been making music for the past seven years.
Ive known Toni since 1st Grade, my brother. We started, which grade were we?
- 8th grade, we started recording. I don't know how, but we heard that
we got some beats… That's when we got hooked.
He started to record, I was like a competition, and bam, were together.
- We got to his place, he was like, bro I got a ten marks microphone, great, let's try it.
Plugged it, I think the program was called Hip-Hop IDJ. You can make beats on that.
Started slowly, made a beat. It's all there, pure sample, everything.
- And that was it. We kept on recording, one song, second…
We made fun, can't do anything serious with that.
- People laughed. Like look at him, recording. Why? Why are you doing that, don't do that.
- Don't know, that's where we split. He went on his road, I went on mine.
I made a demo album in 2006. "Tuzna Vijest", was the name.
Don't know, some depressing attitude I had back then. I guess it was puberty.
It went crazy in 2010. That's when we split. We were S.O.S., before Knin Rap.
It was me, Shiner and S-Boy. We split there for nothing, kids stuff.
I made few tracks than, got heard. "Bonbon", I got us out. We got back together after that.
Twins got in as I said already. Since then, performances from Zadar to…
So we are going to Zadar. Seven of us in a Kadet. We are going to a performance, don't care.
6AM, seven of us in a Kadet, +44C outside, imagine how it was inside…
And we have a gas tank in a car. I will talk about that to my children…
- Another day in Knin. There is more of us than yesterday.
Yesterday we introduced ourselves, now we are all here.
Also here is Shiner, we didn't introduce him yesterday, so please.
- My name is Denis Majstorovic, better known as Shiner, from Knin Rap.
This is my crew here. With this guy here I started working, that's Slaven, my producer…our producer.
We do this for a long time now, we are trying, looking…but we never tried to succeed.
We do it because we like it.
- One time we were at the Fortress, crashed Elemental concert, 2010.
- Year of the turnover.
- Five of us crashed, with bottles of wine. Concert was amazing, and I lost these guys somewhere,
got to the first row. Shot from Elemental asked if anyone from the crowd wants to rap,
and gives the mic to me, like he knew.
- You smell of rap. Why do you smell?
- I smell of rap, fuck it. It was like, you want to rap, alight. I pulled up my pants and got on stage.
It was hard, I had this track, just got it out, and wasn't sure if people heard it,
would the band be able to keep up, I need a beat to rap to.
They were a bit sceptical in the start, took few seconds to catch up.
Remi and Shoot were like, you a rapper?
But when I dropped the mic, and the crowd started to sing the chorus without me,
when they started to jump around… that was the show.
- I got a microphone from Edo. - Ye, he even left us a mic.
- Because I was the worst of all kids. - Edo Maajka!
- Greeting for Edo and Frenkie, and DJ Soul. We love it when Soul rolls records.
- The man needs a coffee.
- Mostly the performances we had until now were nothing.
Literally, what we had to do, Is sometimes bring our own equipment, mostly didn't have to pay for anything.
But for a while now, ive been thinking of raising the bar higher, from fortress.
- Which we are not using.
- All the way to the playground underneath. It can be used 100%, but we got no means.
What is important is that, we have an idea…whenever.
We made the first music video, shot in about two hours during the Documentary.
We worked on it for about two hours, if not less.
Uploaded it, and the crew was really interested to know who these guys were, where they come from.
So we made the first video, I went back to work, and I'm not sure if a week passed
and the views started increasing on You Tube.
People were listening, following, sharing, which, in a certain way was a reward for our work.
What's interesting was, one day I was going back from work, and Marin, known as Stoka, contacted me
I was just talking to my cousin, it was interesting and I couldn't believe that it was him
that it got to him and that he was interested in working with us.
At first I thought it was a fake profile, but it was really him. He was interested in working with us,
to make a concert in Knin.
We made the video in front of the WB Studio at S-Boy, (cough) excuse me,
now comes few seconds of silence…
So he came with the idea, although it was a bit funny at first, and strange, I didn't know if it was possible,
we climbed on a walnut tree, in front of the studio, and made the video for "Jedino Sto Znam"
We mentioned in the first part of the Documentary, that we are planning to start a Animal Movement Group.
And for the few years already, we have a group, it exists and deals not only with animals in need,
but also with other things we do, like music, organizing King Fest and everything else.
Adoption itself, we do that for years already, basically forever.
But for about last year and a half, two, everything got more serious.
Firstly thanks to Facebook, where it all started, as usual.
Soon after that, people started recognizing that it was real, quality story,
that we are doing something, that there are adopted animals and so on.
Soon after that , media got involved in the story, they brought more people in,
so today we have large, respectable number of adopted dogs, cats, birds, even hamsters,
from around Knin and surroundings.
Not so long ago they brought two dogs from Drnis. They don't have anything similar to this,
just as we didn't have in the past.
Three year later, and here we are, back again, same scene, same crew, everything same.
My point of view, has completely changed, from quality to everything, to a higher, three levels higher.
What can I say, my life, like myself, has changed in 360°, I got a kid, got married, I'm a godfather now, twice.
It's all interesting.
When it comes to music, we do less, but the quality is higher.
Even if no one is here, even if we are all scattered in search of a better life, but what's important is
we do it with heart.
Im a member of Lawless Music, family that is, which encases a lot of music genres, which I like.
There are no limits, something happens 0-24, today its rap, tomorrow its pop, day after rnb.
That's how it's supposed to be, not having limits, in music of all things.
When it comes to Lawless Music, for about a year, year and a half we've been doing these projects
and we'll keep on doing them. Just like music video "Spomen", it was all a deal.
Between me and Kety, Jedina.hr crew was coming, I gave my ideas, he gave his,
Jedina.hr crew also had an input, and it all came out perfectly.
"Spomen", we did that in few locations, not many. One of the more important was the all Knin Agroprerada
old abandoned warehouse, where I imagined it first. In black and white setting, a bit deranged so to say.
It was great, as it came out to be, just like we pictured it.
Kety wanted to use an asylum shirt with all that scenery, which was cool.
We haven't thought it would be, but in the end it came out great.
The story about the Mercedes is an interesting one.
It was all spontaneous, Kety called a guy and got it done.
Kety gets everything done, thank God, so we don't have to worry about it.
He got the Mercedes which rounded up the entire thing nicely.
We were outdoors, greenery around us, backstage was green, and Mercedes was green.
What's interesting is that the wheel on the car was messed up, so every time we turn left,
the horn goes off like a truck or Titanic, on the last note.
People were coming out, looking at what was happening, if it was a wedding.
No wedding, just 4, 5 guys in a car, one on the trunk with the camera filming ,
while we were laughing like crazy at why the horn was going off, but only when you go left.
So we kept driving to right, right, right and I got to Germany.
Lawless Music exists for about a year now. In that year we had many collaborations,
with performers from Croatia, Bosnia, and Serbia even far America.
We have this collaboration, video from the trio from Georgia, with Hi Red crew from Trinidad and Tobago…
Afrakam Entertainment collaboration, and few performers from Africa.
Mostly with a young Nigerian performer Mikado, with which we work mostly now.
He is persistent and wants to come to Croatia, to see how it all looks, which will happen probably
maybe on next year's King Fest.
Cameraman: - Say is this weird, one hand in the shot, the other one is not?
Director: - Hmmm... Easy...
Cameraman: - But I can't see his other hand...
Kety: - The important one with the watch is in shot.
We got an album out recently, first official album with Lawless Music signature, four, five months ago.
"Vremeplov", Shiner and S-Boy, it was a collection of their old songs, with original production from that time.
At the moment, we are working on four, five new albums.
We have Necista Misao, Boora from Pag is planning a record, and Slaven is doing his thing.
We are constantly doing something, even thou we are not together.
One is in Germany, other one on the other side of Germany, one is here, the other one there,
but still we manage to get the work done.
We are in such age, with Facebook and social networking, and it works.
From project to project, we are constantly doing something.
We are in talks about videos all the time, new collaborations, people are calling.
They are starting to recognize all this more and more.
They see its all positive, quality, that we have professionals behind all this.
Comparing today, to when it all started, everything I'm doing today and all of us as a part of the project,
it's hard to do, even talk about such comparisons.
Back then, we all had our own thing, and we were imagining, planning and dreaming.
I dreamed about this record label and everything that goes with it, but we never thought it would come true.
We never imagined that it would all go down this way that we will make the video which was not planned,
along the way, and that that video will cause such and explosion and give us the drive we need
to move forward and create everything we have today.
It's far from trucks, planes and millions, but were getting there.
My name is Slaven Anic, a.k.a. S-Boy or Dj Vensla.
Ive been in the music business for 8 years now, but for the past 3 years, I focused more on
the music production.
Ever since we got music videos out for ´"Prskalica", "Chill Operacija" and "Jedino sto Znam".
Right now we have some new materials for Lawless Music, and of course my solo album,
which im working on right now, and planning on releasing it next year, if it all goes as planned.
Right now I am in Lawless Music team. There is no more studio in Knin.
I live in Germany, collaborating with Kety on Cypher, huge project for Lawless Music
including Shiner and Fraktal from Sarajevo. Production is signed off by me completely.
How I do things now is, I sit at my computer and I create beats. That's it.
Its not forced like it used to be. Do something fast and get it out, everyone can do that.
I got a bit more serious about it. I do one thing for a month or two, depending on how Im feeling about it.
One day I make loops, than sample something when I get a good one, get the bass,
write a vers in like 10 days, or a chorus, and so on.
That's how it works now, casual and not rushed as before.
We used to be able to record, but didn't use it the right way.
People used to ask us, when is something new coming out, I don't buy that anymore.
Got myself a new mic, sound card and a bit of equipment now in Germany, well see.
Don't know, I always thought Nina Badric was good, ever since we were on Super Talent show,
she cought my eye, or ear , whatever.
I would like to record with her, maybe one day, who knows.
Call me, ill pay, I work in Germany now.
We published the album "Vremeplov", me and Slavko, my best man.
It was long awaited album, that is, project that were never published, and few songs that were forgotten,
and that we never tried to publish.
It came to that, that Kety from Lawless Music, asked us for that material to make something out of it.
And at the end, we got a quality album, which was fully published on You Tube.
When it comes to me, even thou everyone will watch what they want, im glad it was published,
so that people can listen to something we did long time ago, and not so long ago.
All thou, it's a story from 10 years ago, and 3 years ago. You can hear the difference.
We wanted to record, old Knin Rap, which I am no longer a member of, we wanted to record "Petorku" again,
or, what was it called…I forgot…
E! "Kako mi to radimo"... "Ovako mi to radimo", unbelievable…
We wanted to make some new projects, that is, to revoke the old one, to make a remake
from song "Kako mi to radimo", that is, "Ovako mi to radimo".
Now, few years later, not few but many, five, six, seven years after that, people got more mature, got different.
We make the remake of the same song, all new, and I think it will be great.
In the end, it will be a second track in line, where Knin Rap is actually all together.
When it comes to music in Knin, new artists, I think there are many, who have aspirations,
want to move forward, like we did five, six, seven years ago, to get to where we are now.
In my honest opinion, don't stay here in Knin.
When it comes to music, it's a small town, which cant offer high production, either video or music.
You should not stay here, but its still your city, you start here, and probably will end here.
But I think you should move on, cross new borders, open the door for yourself, and don't close them intentionally,
which is the most important thing. You started here, don't forget it.
If you start on microphone which was five marks, like Toni said, appreciate it, it got you somewhere.
"All I want is bitches big booty bitches". If we don't get any women out of this…
Hi, hi... I got new shoes... Kety.
And the story goes again, back to Germany.. My name is Slim Shady… I like the cameras, im relaxed.
When we made three videos, I feel like its a shame that we stopped.
But we had to, everyone had to move on. Get on a train and go, to a better place.
Sadly, only financially.
I think that if we kept the momentum going like in that one month, it would be a different story now.
Higher level, lets say...
But whenever we meet, we take some time, because family is most important
at least to me, but some time for this as well.
We hosted few known people and all that, something was happening.
There was Stoka, as I said, and now Fil Tilen, who, at the moment is, even thou people would argue,
the top in hip hop and rap music, in Croatia and even beyond.
Last year, we held second King Fest, royal city festival, on the royal Fortress.
We got the fortress, one of the most beautiful buildings in Europe, from the city, to which we are grateful.
On last two King Fest, we hosted over forty different artists in Knin.
From rock , punk , metal to DJs, rappers, really people from all music directions.
Everyone was amazed with organization, hospitality, Knin itself, fortress, Dinara mountain and the nature.
Some of those forty artists from the two King Fests are Fil Tilen, Ludin, Dubrivo, Kreso and Zuvi
and a whole line of more and less known names.
- I hope to get back to Knin as soon as possible, and I wish that people support
this event even more next year.
We had fun, good time, eating, drinking, singing, made music, had fun with people, what more can I say.
Hope to see you soon.
I believe that we, through this Documentary, will show people that, you can do a lot
even with little opportunity, if you have vision, drive and you put effort into it.
No matter where you come from, Knin, Split, any other city, if you live for something and give it a shot
its possible and doable.
I believe that the point of all this, is to surround yourself with positive people,
to look ahead and move forward.
Then, good things just have to happen, sooner or later.
Reporter: - Katarino, you once told me that, Knin is not the problem city. Is that really the case?
Kety: - I don't think so, I know that it isn't so. Like I once said already, life in Knin is not ideal. But where is?
Its not worse than any other city. We are here, we live, fight, like everyone else, like any other city, and that's it.
