Waching daily Jul 1 2017

With a rhythm like the waves and the heart beating,

I knit one stitch after the other and one row after the other

at the same time I collect my thoughts and feelings

without the woolen threads, I get lost

but if I can knit one more row and one more, I can find my way home again

but if I can knit one more row and one more, I can find my way home again

through the magic of the threads I take my way through the days and the nights

I live on Gotland, the island of the roses and the fairytales in the Baltic Sea

together with my husband and our children and Watson the cat

Kammebornia is our art project as well as our own kingdom

Kammebornia is about our wish that everyone could live in their own fairytale kingdom in this place we call reality

and it is about our wish that everyone could be the king or the queen in their own life

In the Kammebornia podcast we want to invite you to our world

that is full of thoughts, feelings and discussions

caused through the scent of the coffee and the soft peaceful rhythm of the knitting

Kammebornia podcast is about life in general and knitting in particular

Today, we will talk about the summer, we will show you a lot of knitting

You will get several nice offers and we will show you my new pattern, Wisby mittens

A warm welcome!

Queen of Kammebornia knits

What´s on your needles?

Do you mean this one or all the things on the table?

We can talk about the things on the table later, it is a lot! I mean what is in your hands?

This is my Icelandic sweater, Afmaeli

I will host a knitalong with this pattern in the late summer, early fall, together with jarbo.se

It will be fun!

So I knit one now - to know what I am talking about and to have something to show

You have a lot of nice things here on the table to

I want to ask you something

What does the summer mean to you?

The summer means a lot to me because I am a summer girl

I love the summer but I have learned to appreciate all the seasons

I love all seasons but the summer is special

It starts in the spring when the blackbirds start to sing

It is a kind of magic!

Time stops and I just want to be in the birdsong

Here in Visby we have a lot of blackbirds

Yes, it is so wonderful

We learned from our friend Olivia that the blackbirds have different songs depending on where they live,

like they have different accents

and of course I think that the Visby blackbirds have the most beautiful songs

in the Visby Cathedral there is a beautiful glass window with blackbirds

Yes, in the glass, it is really beautiful

You mean it was Olivia and Anton that told you about the blackbird accents?

They have the most beautiful Instagram account

Yes, they do, and it is actually called @blackbirdandgoose

I think you should check that out!

Well, the summer means a lot to me

I have this childish happy approach to summer

like it is an eternal, timeless time

I want to walk bare feet, pick strawberries, read books

pick flowers, all those things

But you have always done those things, ever since you were a child?

Yes, I want it to be like in the most beautiful summer songs

There are so many nice summer songs

So we have to try to create our summers like we want them to be

It is very nice when the schools are ending for summer vacation

When we sing the old hymn Den blomstertid nu kommer (The time of flowers is coming)

Yes, and in this episode we will show you the place where it is said to have been written in the 17th century

It is a place called Hångers källa (Hånger's well)

It was Israel Kolmodin that wrote this hymn and I think he was a priest or a bishop here in Visby

It is one of the most well known swedish summer hymns

We will show you this beautiful place today. And we are also going to show you a lot of knitting

You are going to show your project

Am I? Okey.

And we will take you on some other outings as well

That is what is happening today

Are you going to show some things?

This is for example an Icelandic sweater called Afmaeli

I THINK I have learned how to pronounce it right...

We are going to have an Icelandic knitting special - maybe in the next episode

By then I will definitely know how to pronounce it

It is a Létt Lopi sweater

The pattern is designed by Vedis Jonsdottir, the same designer who made the Riddari sweater

The Riddari is a very popular design and I have made you a Riddari that you like a lot

And now, you are knitting your own Riddari!

You are going to show and tell ablout your Riddari in a little while

I will have this knitalong together with Järbo at the end of the summer, with the Afmaeli sweater

I am knitting this one in advance, for me, and then I am making another one during the knitalong, for you

This is my first sleeve, I have shown it before

But you are also knitting in this yarn, Létt Lopi

Now I remember, I pronounced it wrong, it is not called "Afmaeli"....

All right, what is it called this time then?

It is so hard for me to learn this right but I think it is called "Amaile" or something like that...

Well, we will know next time...

Our friends Nina and Rasmus can tell the next time, they know

They used to live on Iceland, so they should know

They know theese things

And you know those kind of things! Like knitting a Riddari.

Yes, I do! But right now, I am unravelling...

You can even knit backwards!

I can do almost everything! Knit forwards, backwards, upside down...

It is almost unbelievable how fast Dennis learned how to knit!

I still think you must have learned it as a child but you keep on saying that you have not

No, this is the first time! I have only been watching my mother as she mended socks

You only learned it only a couple of months ago, and now you have knitted a cowl, a pair of mitts, a hat and a scarf

and now it was time for a sweater

You like the Riddari I have knitted for you, so we chose the same pattern for you to knit as your first sweater

Yes, I am knitting my own sweater and I thought I should be more than a macot

Andrew and I, we are like mascots

But now we are both knitting! Or, all four of us.

I am knitting a Riddari, and I use wooden needles

The main colour is brown

It is the first time I try colourwork

How is it?

It is so much fun! i like it!

I have to watch out so that I do not knit to hard or pull the threads to tight on the back side

Not to hard and not to loose either

I knit a little to firm

But it is good, and you knit so even - it really looks good!

Thank you, you are so kind

But it is true!

It is going to be a great sweater and it is so much fun to knit together!

You and Ella are havning you own Riddari knitalong and I knit my Afmaeli

So Ella is the one mostly helping you out now

It is good, because you have so much to do

So we have our own knitalong! But now she lies ahead of me...

Yes, but that is good, so she can be able to help you better

You have made your first round in two colours now

You will soon come to the body where you just go on knitting in the main colour

That will be fun. I have problems with my short time memory so it will be much easier with only one colour and not so much counting

Then we can watch movies while knitting!

You asked me earlier what I like about the summer and this is one thing!

First, to read, and then especially this book. Anne of Green Gables

I love the way Anne sees the nature. This is one of my all time favorite books

I have always loved this book, ever since I was a child

On my birthday, a couple of weeks ago, I got this beautiful old copy in English, from Ella!

I am so happy for this, it is so beautiful!

Anne is so romantic and poetic

I think you can see yourself in her

Yes, very much!

There is a new tv-series about her now

we have seen the old one but now there is a new one also

we have only started to watch this

We have a lot to show her...

Look at me, this was not so clever!

Typical us, yarn and glasses all over the place!

I was thinking about the thing with seasons and knitting...

I am knitting in warm wool to wear in the autumn when it is colder

In the summer I want to knit things to wear later, in the autumn and winter

On the other hand, when it is warm as it is now, it is nice to hold yarns that are not so warm...

So when it is summer I also want to knit light and cool things

I can solve that problem by knitting a lot of different things...

I like to use light colours in the summer

And at the same time I want to prepare myself for the autumn to come.

My plan is to wear more of a brown colour scale this autumn

Sometimes it feels like I knit so many things but then they do not match...

Now I am going to be more brownish

You are going to be Auntie Brown ( a Swedish child book character of Elsa Beskow)

I have many brown things on my needles

This is for example brown Gotland wool from Solkusten

I will turn this into a nice cardigan, called Juni (June) a pattern by Linnea Öhman @clara.linnea

This is going to be a shawl. This is a wonderful handdyed yarn by @fruvalborg

Such great colours!

and they will go nicely together with the brown cardigan!

That is clever!

This is also brown!

Pink and brown go so well together!

Yes, it is really nice!

I am making a summer thing... a shawl called Summerburst in June, by @organicknitters

Organic knitters has this summer knitalong with a new shawl patterns every summer month and this is the shawl of June

It is one section here with brioche knitting and the yarn is hand dyed

I am almost done!

You can join this knitalong if you want to, on Organic knitters facebook. You can find more information on facebook or Instagram

Melody Hoffman has designed the pattern for July and there are hand dyed yarn kits by Anna Dandelion

at Organic knitters webshop organicknitters.com

You also join the knitalong even if you use your own yarn

It is the third year for the summer knitalong with Organic knitters.

This shawl I am wearing is from her first summer knitalong two years ago, it is called Northern Summer Shawl

You do not stop knitting because it is summer!

No! It is great knitting in the summer!

This is another brown yarn, but it is almost brown - pinkish

This is a linen yarn and I am making a cardigan

A simple cardigan, easy to wear and with some lace knitting, I use the linen yarn from yllotyll.com

I have also knitted a lace tunic in this yarn, I started knitting last summer but now it is finished

I will show you later what it looks like when I am wearing it!

Linen is so cool and nice to wear when it is warm

It feels a bit different to knit in linen yarn compared to wool

Yes, it feels different!

It is very nice to wear anyway

but it almost feels like knitting with straw

I like this tunic a lot, it is called Karla and the pattern is from yllotyll.com

I am glad to be able to give you a special discount on this yarn from yllotyll.com in this episode

I also made this bag with my crochet hook in the same linen yarn but another colourway

A bathing suit!

A bit to much see through...

it is a bag so that we do not have to use a plastic one

there are too many plastic bags in the world

it is better to bring your own bag when you go shopping

my friend Maria Samuelsson, @garnomera has made this pattern and you can find it in Swedish on her blog

you can for example buy apples

A nice project, a perfect gift!

you can both knit and crochet your own bags easily!

It is popular right now to make your own bags and it is very good!

Get rid of the plastic!

I am also knitting knee highs in my own pattern but modified to knee highs

This is my pattern Longing for Gotland

I am knitting a pair of ordinary Longing for Gotland socks in the beautiful hand dyed yarn from Moods of Colors

I have been working on this pair for a long time because I did not like the needles I had in my project.

It is such a big difference depending on which needles I am using, if I like the knitting or not

Now I have one of my favorite needles here the carbonz needles, so now I will be able to finish this pair of socks

And I am also working on theese knee highs I was talking about

Theese are meant for my brownish autumn!

You are working on very many projects!

Is that crazy?

No, it is ok, it is you

I have just released a new pattern, the Wisby mittens and talking about needles...

I have knitted my mittens with theese, they are made from old music instruments, or left over material from instrument making

I love theese needles

Look! Your new mittens!

Yes, this is the Wisby mittens

I made the grey ones at first, this is Gotland wool, so nice

I am using a yarn that is totally locally produced here on the island of Gotland - I like that so much

even the pattern is locally designed by me

I will probably make more patterns for this yarn

when I designed this pattern, I was inspired by my daily walks through the small streets and alleys of our beautiful town

we have pavingstones and cobblestones in every street here so that is the pattern I used

I turned it into squares in different sizes

there is also a corrugated rib and some latvian braids

then I wanted to knit them in different colours and yarns that might be easier to find

they come in two different sizes and theese are knitted in 3-ply wool from Ullcentrum

so, these are yours and theese are mine

Winter is coming, you have to be prepared!

There are already a lot of people who have bought the pattern, I am so happy!

It is so fun to make a local project like this one, the yarn is spun here on Gotland, from Gotland sheep

on the island and I have also designed the pattern here, with inspiration from the streets of Visby

It would be so interesting for me and the viewers to know more about the process when you make a pattern?

You have been working so much with this lately

You get help with some parts, right?

There is so much work in making a pattern

I released my first pattern less than a year ago. It was Longing for Gotland, in August last year

I am so happy that people are knitting my socks all over the world!

My first pattern was so appreciated that I decided to continue

I have made my own designs earlier but only for myself, and I had never wrote them down before

It is a different thing to be able to make others understand your instructions

The Wisby mittens is my sixth pattern

I like doing this, but I do not like the part when I am writing it down. I like inventing, designing, knitting...

I have so many half done things on its way out in the world, a lot of ideas

but then I have to write it down and make it good and right everything for people to understand

I used to be a teacher and I guess it is natural for me to be wanting to be very pedagogic

I want to make good patterns, both clear to understand and good looking when you read them

I have had a lot of help from Anna Friberg, my friend and colleague, that I found on Instagram

She is @yarnesty on Instagram

She also runs her own business, besides her work as an engineer

You can find her on knitway.se

she also has a videopod

she works as a tech editor for knitting patterns, both in English and Swedish

She also makes her own designs

we are so unlike each other, she is an engineer and I am an artist and that creates an interesting mix

we are good at helping each other

I have photographed several of her patterns and she does the tech editing for me

she checks my counting for example, and all the other things about the pattern

When she makes her patterns, she uses this good mathematic method to count the stitches and create her design before she bothers to knit it

I start with the knitting and if I am not satisfied, I rip it up and make it again and again, I have to hold it and

watch it grow first and then I can write it down

So we do it the opposite way from each other, she counts first and then knit. I knit first and then count.

You can feel pretty sure about her, as she is used to make the counting and stuff for the air planes

Yes, as the planes does not crash, we can be sure that the mittens are all right

it feels like I am assuring the quality in my patterns by using her skills as a tech editor

I think that I am good at making designs and I am good at knitting, but I need Annas help with the editing

another interesting thing is that we write our patterns in very different ways but she helps me to develop

my skills and my personality, she does not try to change my style into hers and that really shows her

professionalism I think

that is a good editor, that only helps you develop your own skills and personality

I also get a lot of help from Gabriella, our friend who is an artist as well as a graphic designer

She has put together our Picnic book as well as the book I photographed for Anna Bergman, Tant Ulltuss

She also makes my patterns look good and puts together my text and my pictures

We have small businesses all three of us so we bill each other for the work

so I have to sell quite a lot of patterns to cover my costs

and then, when that is done, I get money to buy food for us

I have so many exciting ideas for patterns and interesting things ahead

with moodsofcolors.com for example

It is a very long process and a lot of job

the working hours are immense

but it is also much fun

I have knitted very many mittens before I was satisfied, I want them to fit well and be beautiful

Exciting! Interesting to hear about this!

Sometimes our friend Rita comes and takes us for an outing in her car

like the day when we went to a sunny beach in the middle of a week

and there we sat, eating a nice pie that we brought and we were talking about love, life and death

then we went to Västerhejde church, one of all the beautiful old churches on Gotland

there are almost one hundred medieval churches on this small island

it is so nice to go into the churches and feel the history between the walls

people hav went here for many hundreds of years with their hapiness, hope and grief

One day, we went on an outing to Fårö with Rita (Fårö is a small island north of Gotland)

On Gotland all sheep are called lambs and the lambs are called lambkids

Sheep are called Får in Swedish but Fårö(sheep island) is not named after the Får - Sheep

Fårö comes from Far - ö, to Fara can mean travelling, so it means the island of the travellers

People have always been travelling to and from Gotland and Fårö

On our way home we went to Hångers well, the beautiful place where Swedens most famous summer hymn

was written in 1600 something

we came there on a beautiful day, just like he did when he wrote his song

it was getting late and the sun was setting

we sat on our blanket and we had coffee and cookies and of course we sang Den blomstertid nu kommer (The time of the flowers is coming)

I love outings like this

Finally I have finished my tunic in linen yarn

it is a pattern called Karla from yllotyll.com

it is such a nice summer tunic

yllotyll.com offers a 15% discount 1-15 July on their linen yarn if you use the code Kammebornia

I am also knitting a cardigan in the same yarn

I have also made this bag to use instead of plastic bags

I am also knitting a shawl called Summerburst in June

it is part of the Organic knitters summer knitalong

there is a new pattern every summer month, June, July, August

there are also yarn kits with eco friendly hand dyed yarns

you can find the knitalong on facebook

you can also use your own yarn

this is the yarn for July and the new pattern is designed by Melody Hoffmann

otherwise, we are knitting a lot of Létt Lopi things right now

Dennis and Ella are both knitting Riddari sweaters

Ella has already knitted an Icelandic sweater this year

I am knitting on my Afmaeli

This is my new pattern, the Wisby mittens

I really enjoy watching your mittens grow in new colour combinations and yarns

I have knitted many pairs, both in a local yarn and in 3ply from Ullcentrum

Létt Lopi is also working fine for this pattern!

If you use the code kammeborniapodcast you will get a 20% discount on this pattern on ravelry 1-15 July

We are so happy to be able to share our yarn happiness, Gotland love and coffee moments with you!

Thank you for being with us!

We also have the best sponsors and we want to say thank you to them as well

At jarbo.se you can find yarns and free patterns and much more (mostly in Swedish)

At Opalicious you can find Opal yarn and much more

At Ullcentrum you can find fine Swedish wool yarn

In Uppsala you can find the cosy yarn shop YlloTyll and they are also available at yllotyll.com

I never get tired at using Swedish wool in natural colours and you can find that at Solkustens spinnverkstad

I wonder who put it there (a wet towel)

It's stupid me!

What is she doing?

AYS Daily Growth Hacks 042 Magnesium - Duration: 3:47.

Today's topic: Magnesium.

Hi, I'm Doug Holt with "Author of Your Own Story" and this is your daily growth hack.

Where each day we bring you a tip, trick or insight to help you up-level what we call

the Five to Thrive.

That's your mind, your body, your soul, your relationships and your business.

Today we're going to focus on your body.

In particular, we're going to talk about supplementation and we're going to talk about magnesium.

Magnesium is a mineral that most people in Western societies are deficient in.

Magnesium has a lot of benefits.

Some of the reported benefits are an increase in energy with a supplementation of magnesium.

Calming of your nerves and anxiety, which is something that I can attest to.

Help with digestion by relieving constipation.

Now, this is also something to watch out for.

With excessive magnesium supplementation it's actually going to act like a diuretic.

Make sure you're reading your instructions as it does happen to a lot of people with

overdosing magnesium.

I'll talk about that perhaps in a little bit.

Also, relieving muscle aches and spasms.

The reason that is, is it helps regulate levels of calcium, potassium and sodium.

Your muscles work on what's called the sodium-potassium pump.

Also, there has been reported benefits for heart health, osteoporosis, as well as migraines.

My wife and I, who is also a health professional and life coach, we both take calcium and I

have no representation of this brand which is Natural Calm.

It's got a raspberry lemon flavor.

We take that in the evenings before bedtime.

Helps us relax and we feel we sleep a lot better.

Again, I'm going to warn you, when I first started supplementing with this particular

brand of calcium, being a typical guy, it calls for two teaspoons and I put heaping

teaspoons in with the "More is Better" attitude and it drained me.

It drained me because it does act like a diuretic.

I won't get into those details but I will tell you it is something to be careful of.

A lot of times with, what we're seeing is modern farming and agriculture, mineral depletion

of the soil is so great that we're losing magnesium in most Western diets.

I originally heard about this back in about 2000/2001 from a guy named Charles Poliquin

who is a very famous strength coach.

I started supplementing with magnesium back then.

You'll also notice that magnesium is often put into a lot of sleep supplements.

Because of that deficiency that we have in our bodies, it really helps us get a calm

state and really relax into sleep.

So, that's my tip for you today.

I highly recommend checking out supplementing with magnesium.

Of course, I'm not a medical professional, so consult your physician before starting

any supplementation program.

I think you're going to find that magnesium in the evenings as well as potentially in

the mornings is going to help you through out your day.

That's it for me today.

As always, go to authorofyourownstory.com where you'll get more tips, tricks and insights

as well as deeper dives from other professionals from around the world.

And, stay tuned, September 1st we're excited to open up our University.

This is going to be limited to a number of people so make sure you get on the wait list

to get the latest information.

Have a great day and remember

be the Author of Your Own Story.
