THE 5:2 DIET THAT CAN HELP YOU AVOID AND EVEN REVERSE TYPE 2 DIABETES

Diabetes is one of the most widespread diseases.

Its health consequences may be very serious, especially if the sufferer does not pay attention

to lifestyle and quality of his/her food.

WHAT IS DIABETES?

With our daily diet, our body gets the fats, proteins and carbohydrates needed.

When the carbs are digested, they are broken down into glucose which causes an increase

weight loss.

The Type II diabetes is the most common type of diabetes; it affects about 85% of the patients

usually above 40 years old.

It is due to insulin resistance, which prevents the sugar to penetrate into the cells and

allows it to remain in the bloodstream, causing hyperglycemia.

Another type of diabetes which occurs during pregnancy is called gestational diabetes.

It requires a rigorous medical and nutritional monitoring to prevent overweight in the unborn

baby and possible health complications for the mother.

THE 5:2 REGIME TO TREAT DIABETES

This plan includes 5 days a week during which the person has the right to eat whatever he

wants and keep his usual calories, obviously avoiding unhealthy foods such processed products,

soft drinks and foods high in sugar; then 2 days of "strict regime" during which

the menu is more limited, with a total absence of carbohydrates and 500 calories less per

day for men and 600 for women.

This alternation between strict balanced meals and menus helps regulate blood sugar levels,

detoxifies the body, helps in losing weight and prevents the onset of many diseases such

as cancer, Alzheimer's disease and cardiovascular illnesses.

According to a study by the University of Florida, the principle of this diet is that

fasting intermittently reduces inflammation in the body and stimulates the immune system.

During 10 weeks of experiment, people were required to alternate between a consumption

of 25% and 175% of their usual calorie intake.

Result: an improvement in their heart condition, blood pressure, blood sugar, in addition to

weight loss.

Caution: this diet is not recommended for pregnant women.
