for tomorrow morning that's right near my place.

KANE: Hey, yeah, I'll come over to yours instead.

It's probably about time I met your housemates anyway, since you've met mine.

Want me to bring anything?

[Hangup]

[Beep]

JASON: Don't worry about bringing anything.

I'll let my housemates know to expect you.

Hopefully they like you more than your housemates like me!

[Hangup]

[Beep]

KANE: Hey, my housemates may not love you, but they don't hate you.

Which, considering they hate almost everything and everyone, is actually very high praise.

JASON: Oh my god, are you serious?

I thought they like, full on hated me.

I'm glad they don't, but man, tough crowd.

Anyway, I'll see you later, I figure you'll just come on by around dinner time?

KANE: Yeah, I'm not really sure what the deal is with them, but they pay their rent on time

and they tidy the kitchen when they're done using it, so as far as I'm concerned they're

perfect housemates.

The job interview didn't go very well.

I should be used to this by now, but I'm not. [Sighs]

I always strike out at interviews.

I do great on phone interviews, and they always like my resume - not that resumes are much

important for the shitty jobs I apply for, but anyway - the moment they get into the

same room as me though...

I don't know.

I think I'm too obviously gay, you know?

Like... they never give me a solid reason for turning me down or reacting badly, sometimes

I get the bullshit "not the right cultural fit" answer, but never anything more.

Which only makes me sure that that's it, because if they admitted they didn't want me because

I'm too gay I could sue the shit out of them.

I've tried to butch it up before, but it's just so obviously drag, you know?

And I shouldn't have to butch it up!

Just for stupid office or retail jobs!

Even fucking pubs don't want me pulling beers, for fuck's sake!

I'm going to be stuck doing shitty casual hospitality work forever, I swear to god.

Ugh.

This is just... it's so frustrating, and I feel like I can vent to you, but like, if

it's too much, let me know and I won't.

How to Keep Track of WIP Timelines - Duration: 3:15.

Hi community of awesome, I'm Ava Jae, and this is bookishpixie.

So once upon a time, even *after* I'd started plotting, I didn't really keep track of the

timeline in my manuscripts.

I sort of just went along with how it turned out while I was writing, so I'd put down "the

next day" or "a few days later" or "the next morning," whatever, and I didn't write it

down anywhere else, I just kinda went with it.

And then the time came where I had to revise and I realized the timeline was all over the place.

Mistakes were made.

Apparently when I didn't write down the timeline I sort of forgot how long things were.

So one day I'd say that something happened two days ago, and then another day while I

was writing I'd say that very same thing happened two weeks ago.

And I would just completely forget because it takes a long time to write a book and I

couldn't keep those facts straight in my head.

Surprise! It is really hard to keep an accurate timeline in just your brain.

So what I started doing so I didn't have to spend hours upon hours fixing the timeline

in revisions, is when I started plotting I'd immediately write down the timeline right

from the beginning.

So in my very first opening scene I'd call that Day One, and I'd specify what time of

day it was, too, so I'd say, Day One: Morning, and the next scene was Day One: Evening, or

Day One: Afternoon, etc. from beginning to end, Day One through however many days passes

in the manuscript.

If I was writing a book in a real-world setting, then I'd also write down the days of the week

because I can't tell you how many times I'd accidentally written, like, four-day weekends,

or a Wednesday that came after a Friday—those little details are hard to keep track of in

first drafting if you don't write them down.

I'm a very chronological writer and so far I haven't written a book that has a non-chronological

timeline, but if you are writing a book that is not chronological, you especially want

to make sure you're organized with your timeline because it's going to be even harder for you

to try to keep track of a timeline that jumps around everywhere, and it would be even harder

to untangle that in revisions if you don't have an organized plan going in.

So I definitely recommend trying to be as organized as possible with your timelines

right from the beginning, and if you don't stick to it, that's okay.

It is a lot easier to go back to your outline and say, "Actually, this took play on Day 5"

then it is to have to go back to your manuscript at the end and write down every single day

that something happens and then have to fix all those moments where invariably it doesn't

line up because...it's hard to keep track of in your first draft, as I said.

So organization definitely helps.

Even if you're not a plotter, I'd recommend at the very least writing down as you draft

what days certain things happen, like in a separate document, or a note, that way you

have something to reference both when you're revising later and even while you're first

drafting so you don't accidentally repeat days of the week.
