LOVE EVERY DAY Hello Zippies!
Ready to raise your vibration?
I'm ready!
Here's the thing, it troubles me that there aren't people enjoying every day, that they're
looking forward to the weekend too much.
Somebody's wishing me you know, have a great weekend and it's Thursday, and and they're
not off tomorrow, and it's not a long weekend.
You know what I mean?
So, that's one thing that you and I enjoy every day and we have little kind of things
we do, and how we go about that because how do you enjoy every day…
The first way that I like to enjoy every day is by getting up a little bit early.
What that does for me it allows me to take a deep breath in the morning.
I start off my day not rushed, in a great mood and how you start off your day makes
a big difference in how the day's gonna go.
So, I find that if I start off the day with plenty of time, I'm not rushed I even have
time to sit down drink a cup of coffee, maybe walk around the yard, fill the birdbath, do
a little something for me.
How much time?
It doesn't take much time to change the whole course of your day.
So, an extra 10 minutes anybody can handle.
10 extra minutes.
If you get up 10 minutes early, that could make all the difference in your day.
You get so much more accomplished, so much happier, and if you do that each day for a week
I guarantee you, you're going to feel better at the end of the week.
And you do that for a month, the results are gonna be amazing.
Finding that ten minutes for some people might be difficult.
Uhm, I know how we go about finding that ten minutes is if we go to bed really early.
It always starts with the day before So, planning the day before and planning to have a good
day the next day makes a big difference also.
Not only making time in the morning, but making time throughout the day.
Making time to just walk outside.
Take a couple of minutes feeling the temperature outside, the sun, the rain, stormy weather,
the humidity.
Whatever it is, just embrace it and be like, "Wow!
There's a lot going on out here.
I was so focused on my world inside I didn't even realize that it was sunny today" or
"I didn't even realize that there's a storm brewing out here."
Feel it!
Feel it.
We're saying feel it.
Yes.
Feel the wind on your cheek.
Just be outside.
Smell the air.
Take a deep breath and get outside from the office or the classroom or wherever.
Now how often should a person do that in their office environment?
Well, really I mean, no one should be sitting longer than maybe an hour.
So you need to be getting up and down.
For circulation.
For circulation or feeling good and not getting bogged down in any one thing.
You want…having snippets of time where you can focus on specific things during the day
and then take a little break from it actually makes you more productive.
If you can take just a one or two minute break it frees the mind.
Take a deep breath.
Jump right back on it.
And you know and you'll…
Jump on it!
So I'm gonna go for two minute break.
I'm gonna go feel a leaf, smell the air, feel some sunshine, a little brush, a breeze on
my cheek.
I'm gonna go back in that office and jump on it, Kemosabe Jump on it!
*Laughs* I digress.
Yes.
But you were taking your break.
*Laughs* That was my break from the 15 minute video?
Yes.
So that's over now.
You focus much more clearly.
I'm gonna jump on it, keep us on it.
Another thing is reducing distractions during the day.
Designating a time to check your email for example.
So now you're talking about reducing distractions so I think we're getting into more of stress
situations.
One of the reasons people do look forward to the weekend is because for most people
it's less stressful than the workweek.
Sure.
And so that's why.
So then you kind of look at different ways of reducing stress.
Now I know in Paul McKenna's book he talks about not trying to reduce stress but trying
to increase bandwidth.
So increase the bandwidth so that you can handle it.
How do you create bandwidth so you can take on even more?
Right.
So increasing your capacity for more stress.
And one way to do that is to…these things that we're talking about.
Limit the distractions, have specific times that you focus on specific things, and to
be more productive.
Staying focused on one thing rather than multitasking throughout the day.
Do you remember if it was Gandhi or Nelson Mandela, "I have a busy day so I must meditate
longer"?
I'm not sure who that was.
Who said…I must.."I have a busy day I must meditate longer" I'll have to look
that up.
A lot of people fall into the email trap where they're at their computer, they're working
on a specific project, and you get the email you know, "let me just go take care of that"
Because you're curious.
Really!
So you're doing thing number one then you go to thing number two.
The email.
And the email leads you into, "oh my goodness I see an advertisement of something I like".
*Laughs* And you're shopping!
There's a shirt and I'm back to thing one.
And before you know it, an hour has passed or two hours has passed.
But if you can shut your door, focus on the one thing that's most important at that time,
get it done.
There's plenty of software out there where you can block, you know…
certain times where the email won't interrupt you.
and then you can focus on what you are
doing so that you can get that task accomplished and then answer your emails one time a day,
four times a day, eight times a day.
Whatever it is, you can make that decision for yourself.
Rather than letting life just beat you up through the day.
You take charge of your life.
It's your life, it's your job, it's your work, so accomplish it in the best manner possible.
In the most expedient manner possible.
You'll find yourself going into your weekend so much happier by the time you do get to
Friday.
I'm excited it's Friday don't get me wrong.
But you know Monday's good too.
And you can make Monday just as good as Friday.
Make Monday as good as Friday!
*Laughs* There's a good mantra.
Let's talk about multitasking for a minute.
Okay.
I read…I don't know if it was Money Magazine, but they actually said that there's no such
thing as multitasking, which a lot of people were like, "Ohhhhh".
They said that actually you're not multitasking, you're skipping from different tasks.
I really don't believe in multitasking.
I believe you can do one thing.
You can focus on one thing and you can do it well.
So the moment you start doing two or three things you're putting attention in too many different
areas.
Focus on the one thing and get it done, then move to thing two.
Get it done.
Move to thing three get it done.
I believe that can be accomplished more efficiently and feel better and do it faster than you
could do all three things at once.
Every time you say "thing one, thing two" I think of The Cat in the Hat
Dr. Seuss.
*Laughs* However you want to put it sweetheart.
*Laughs* You keep moving from…
If that helps you understand it, then go right ahead.
*Laughs* Multitasking is not real.
Multitasking is your mind switching back and forth from different tasks.
So you might think you're doing two things at the same ,time three things at the same
time, four things.
You're actually not.
You're doing one thing at a time and what really works for me is replacing multitasking
with compartmentalizing and scheduling.
So I will say I am going to get XYZ done.
I don't care if this building burns down, my hair is on fire, and ten people come up
to me with huge problems, this is gonna happen during this block of space.
And I'm pretty much live by that.
And that's what happens during that block of space.
And it may be blocking off time for work, blocking off time for a work out, whatever it is that's
what's gonna happen during that time.
Instead of multitasking, I advocate compartmentalizing and also scheduling appointments with yourself.
So you schedule an appointment with yourself that's just as meaningful to keep and meet as if
you were scheduling your appointment with someone else, with a client, or a best friend,
or your mother.
So you know appointments you make with yourself are like promises you make to yourself, these
are very important.
Another thing that will help you make space in a day is to make a to-do list.
I have a piece of paper that I folded in half I write down different categories on my to-do
list.
So I have work categories, I have home project categories, and anything that I can think of.
I may spend 10, 15 minutes on this list.
Am I a home project?
You are.
You're on the list sweetheart.
It's called the honey to do list.
*Laughs* I'm at the top of the list.
Top of the list.
*Laughs* I don't believe in honey to do list, I believe
in do your honey list.
*Laughs* So make those categories whatever you want.
Get them all down on the paper.
The moment I get it down on paper I know it's gonna happen.
The moment I have it on the list I know it's gonna get done.
My day immediately improves because I don't have that stream of consciousness going, "remember
to do this, remember to do that" and it's constantly…I mean that could hit my…if
I don't have the list that could hit me in the back of my mind several times a day.
Ten times a day or more.
And to me that's a waste of time.
But if I have that list I know it gets done so much faster because I have certain hours
where I'm just super productive working in the day.
And if I ever reach a point where, "What do I do next?"
I'm back on my list.
And really yeah the list is also great because you can scan through your list and see what
do I feel like doing right now.
Because if you feel like…
What am I in the mood for?
Exactly.
What am I in the mood to do right now?
That's really a great place to be because when you're in the mood to do that certain
thing, you're gonna do it better, more efficiently, more effectively.
And it's gonna feel great.
And you're gonna enjoy more.
Absolutely.
It's not a dredge because I was kind of in the mood for that.
So I've got my list and so it's a time of day.
Maybe one of my tasks on there is a creative task like, you know, a certain page on the
company website needs updating.
And so I have that on my to-do list.
But you know, it's late afternoon and maybe that's not my productive time.
Maybe I get that little four o'clock "ughhh" where I really want, you know, a little coffee
or something.
And I'm like well that's not really a good time to do that task.
But I have the list and then maybe the next morning is exactly when that's my more productive
time.
It's on the list.
I look at the list and I go, "Boom.
I'm gonna go work on that website."
You never forget to do anything.
You always have a list and I always see you just whipping through that to-do list.
It's fantastic.
It feels really good to make it through your list and then it's time to build another one
and just keep it going.
When do you build your to-do list?
Do you have a certain time of day that you do that?
I would say it's more often in the morning but sometimes I'll do it in the evening.
Because if there's a lot of stuff that I feel that's left undone during the day then I'm
working on that list.
And then I feel like I can put it down and relax, you know.
Because there's times for relaxation too and you need to feel like you have time in the
day to…for some fun things and not just work things.
During the work day?
No after work.
Oh, after work.
Yeah.
So at a certain time I like to be able to put it down.
And if I have it on my list I feel like I can put it down.
And quit knocking about it.
Exactly.
Because putting it down means I'm not gonna think about it.
I'm gonna take a break from it because taking…and that's really a lot of what we're talking
about here today is being able to take a break from your work.
So that you can come back and be more effective.
Keep moving forward and be effective and productive.
That's really what we're talking about.
And that feels great.
Because it feels good to be productive.
It does.
And then you really kind of recharge and you're looking for you know, not that you're looking
for the weekend being over, but Monday is another day that's gonna be great too and
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and all of that.
Absolutely!
We can make them all good.
Right.
And so, I think one of the things that makes people happy and also successful is creativity.
You know, creativity really sets people apart from successful people to less successful
people and it, it really doesn't matter what job you're in because every business owner
or corporation is looking for people with creative ideas and implementing of course
implementing those ideas.
But you know bringing something to the table, and it really doesn't matter where you work,
or you know what you do.
Making time as you say make space of the day for that creativity and to brainstorm with
someone else.
Right.
You and I work together, and play together, and we're always cooking up something, and
it seems like we're always kind of brainstorming…
Right. …and creative ideas and it just feels so
good and it's a lot of fun but to have people to bounce ideas off.
Brainstorming is important.
Engaging the creative side of your brain feels good.
There's certain times a day for…for us I think it's in the morning we're more creative
than…and as the day goes along we feel a little bit less creative.
I don't know if we're more attached to what's going on in the day or what it is, but I know
some people, everybody schedules a little bit different.
Some people are gonna be morning people, some people are gonna be better at their generators
in the evening, or late at night you know right you know
Well they are the night owls.
There are people who says they are night owls.
Right.
And that, that is their most creative time and I'm definitely…not that.
Uhm, you and I, I feel like we have our most open-minded and creative conversations firstly
in the morning.
Almost like when we're not even awake yet.
Actually before, before our first cup of coffee.
We call that 'chair time.'
Chair time this is chair time.
These are the chairs and this is the time.
This isn't the time much earlier in the morning.
And it's just fantastic and some of the gems that you come up with at that time in the
morning are really, I mean, I feel really privileged to get to hear some of this stuff
you say.
Because you just come up with this.
Sometimes I don't even know where it's coming from.
Sometimes it's just wisdom.
I's just so good.
It is so good.
Now, creative but not all that accurate.
*Jim laughs* So, I do know that if I just roll out of bed
it's not a time to be fiddling with part numbers or proper English or emails or…
Check books.
Huh?
Check books.
Oh god, don't start that! *both laughs*
Noooo.
Not the check book.
Tell me an area that I can improve on because I need to make time in the day for it instead
of trying to do multitasking.
Multitasking.
When I am screwing up our check book.
*both laughs* Well is there anything else you wanted to
say?
I've got one of my favorite ways to have a happy day.
Go ahead, sweetheart.
Is there anything else you wanted to add?
No.
Okay.
One of the things that makes people the happiest is making someone else happy.
That's just it.
A great way is to think of someone else, other than yourself.
We're talking about how to have a great Monday through Friday so you're not dreading your
workweek and looking forward to the weekend.
There's nothing better than making someone else's day.
It can be somebody at your office, a complete stranger.
For me I have a strange fondness of random acts of kindness.
I love random acts of kindness especially if they are anonymous.
I don't know even better.
So you can purposefully do something nice for somebody else and think of ways a random
act of kindness.
And just trying to make every experience.
If somebody's around you trying to make that a positive experience for them because quite
frankly you never know what somebody is going through.
Well quite frankly.
We hope that making these videos will improve your day and that in turn will improve our
day.
But we would love nothing more than to help other people have the joy that we have.
