Hello Everyone, welcome to the uTry.it channel. This is Amy Tong.
Are you ready for the holiday baking?
Today, I have these fun and festive cookies to share with you.
My kids and I had so much fun decorating these cookies together.
These would definitely be the cutest homemade gifts.
These cookies are crunchy, with a hint of butter and vanilla.
Follow me to the kitchen and I'll show you how to make these 3D Winter Wonderland Classic Sugar Cookies.
To prepare the classic sugar cookie dough, we will need 2 sticks of softened butter,
1 cup of sugar. I'm using salted butter today so I'm not gonna add any more salt.
But if you use unsalted butter, make sure to add a pinch of salt to balance out the flavor.
Next, add in 1 large egg. Scrape down the sides of the bowl so that your ingredients can mix in evenly.
Next ingredient is 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 3 cups of all-purpose flour.
Beat all the ingredients together until everything is just combined.
Divide the dough into 2 equal portions.
Shape each portion into a flat disk, wrap with a piece of plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 1 hour before rolling.
To prepare the Chocolate Sugar Cookie Dough,
Sift together 2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder.
Sifting these 2 ingredients together will help them mix evenly and prevent any lumps.
And the rest of the ingredients are same as before. Which are 2 sticks of butter,
1 cup of sugar, large egg, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
Then beat in the cocoa powder and flour mixture.
Again, stop the mixer when everything is just combined.
Divide the dough into 2 equal portions, form them into a disk, wrap with a piece of plastic wrap,
and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before rolling.
And today, I want to share with you one of my favorite baking tools.
This rolling pin comes with the removable rings.
You can choose the size of the ring according to your recipe.
The adjustable ring can help you roll out your cookie dough into even uniform thickness.
There are 4 sizes to choose from and today we will select the 1/4-inch one.
I will list the product link below this video for your reference.
When you're ready to bake, take the cookie dough out of the refrigerator and let it softened in room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes.
I like to roll my cookie dough in between two pieces of plastic wrap.
That way, I don't have to add any additional flour to my cookie dough.
Simply take off the plastic wrap on top and stamp out your cookies.
To create the winter wonderland, I'm using this 3D Christmas cookie cutter set.
This cookie set is so easy to use and the result is amazing!
This 3D cookie cutter set includes 4 different ones.
The Santa's Sleigh, Reindeer, Christmas tree, and snowman.
And here's a little tip for you, simply dust your cookie cutters with a little bit of all purpose flour to prevent them from sticking to your dough.
And you can start stamping out your cookie dough.
Try to stamp your cookies as close to each as possible so that you can get the maximum numbers of cookies.
Carefully remove the edges of the cookie dough and you can get to your stamped out cookie easily.
Transfer your stamp out cookie dough onto a Silpat lined baking sheets.
Chill your stamp out cookie dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before baking.
That will help your cookie holder shapes and prevent them from spreading too much during the baking process.
Gather the cookie dough scraps and you can re-roll them for more cookies.
And of course, we need presents under the Christmas Tree, right?
And here's how I make them.
Measure and cut out your regular sugar cookie dough into 1/4-inch strips.
And the pizza roller is perfect for the job!
And we need a total of 4 strips. You can double the amount like I do if you plan to make more.
And you'll need 2 strips of the chocolate sugar cookie dough cut into 1/4-inch as well.
You'll also need a wider chocolate sugar cookie dough strip cut into 3/4-inch in width.
Let me show you how to assemble it all together.
Star with a strip of the regular sugar cookie dough, place a strip of the chocolate one on top.
And top it with another regular sugar cookie dough strip.
Lay it down flat and make sure all strips are line up with each other.
Make another set because we will need two strips of these sandwiched cookie strips.
Next, place the wider chocolate sugar cookie dough strips on top and cover with the remaining sandwiched cookie dough strip.
Wrap up the cookie dough block with a piece of plastic wrap.
Gently press on all 4 sides to make sure all the tiny strips are tick together.
Unwrap your cookie dough and cut them into 1/2-inch thickness.
Take a strip of the chocolate sugar cookie dough and cut it into mini triangles.
Place 2 triangles on each of the gift box and decorate the gift box with a piece of silver sprinkle.
After 30 minutes of chilling, bake the cookies at the preheated oven at 350 degree Fahrenheit.
Bake the cookies for about 12 to 15 minutes or until the edges are slightly golden brown.
To prepare the royal icing, we will need 1 cup of powdered sugar, 2 teaspoons of meringue powder,
2 tablespoons of warm water, and 1/4 teaspoons of vanilla extract.
Whisk until the icing is smooth and you don't see any more lumps.
I divide the icing into 3 portions.
Leave 1 portion plain. Tint 1 of the portion with a few drops of natural red food coloring.
And tint the remaining portion with green.
The 3D sugar cookies are super easy to assemble.
For the snowman and Christmas trees, place the top part of the cookie perpendicularly on the bottom portion of the cookie.
To assemble the 3D reindeer cookie, add some royal icing at the joints and let it dry laying down flat.
Make sure to place the legs slightly spread out at an angle.
This will help the reindeer balance better when it stands up.
To assemble the Santa's Sleigh, add some royal icing on the connecting points and let it dry standing up straight.
Make sure to adjust the pieces of the sleigh stand up straight while the royal icing is till wet.
And you can decorate your cookies with Royal Icing and Sprinkles.
Slightly dip the sprinkle in the royal icing before putting it on your cookie.
The Sprinkles will stay on the cookie after the icing is dried.
And here's another tip for you: for the Snowman and Christmas tree, it's easier to decorate when they are lying out flat.
And you can easily assemble the pieces back together after the Royal icing is dried.
You can decorate however you like it.
And I truly love the colorful sprinkles on these cookies.
So, which one is your favorite?
I think I really like the presents and the Santa sleigh.
