Hi everyone. Wallace here with your Monday video. Today I'm going to talk
about three pool reads. This is gonna be part one. I've got part 2 coming up.
Beach reads, pool reads, vacation reads, whatever you want to call them. These are
just light, fluffy kind of where I go towards in the summertime. I have not
read any of these books yet. So these are the books that I have bought they're on
my shelf that I'm excited to read. Like bought with my own money. They were
not sent to me. I am excited for this fluff. The first
one is Young Jane Young. And I am probably one of the only people who
hasn't read this on book riot. But one thing that I actually do do with books
that are like not complete fluff, which this one, I don't think it's complete
fluff. I think there's actually like a decent story to it. I've been told it's
kind of like that like Monica Lewinsky ish like stuff that happened. It's
happening with like a sex scandal. And then these five like women are brought
in together and like kind of what happens with them. um So what I do with
books that are not complete fluff, I actually go to the blurb section and I
always look for book riot. And book riot has a blurb on this one. It's called,
they say, we say warm hearted. But regardless of what's said, I always check
and see if book riot has been quoted if I'm kind of like on the fence about
something. Now this one I really wanted to read but I was still happy to see the
book riot had a blurb in it. But for sure for books that I am like, do I want to
read this or do I not want to read this? I will always scan. If they don't have a
book riot quote, often I'll put them back and I'm not even kidding.
And it's not just because it work for book riot. It's because I just trust --
maybe it is. Who knows? But I just trust that if somebody at book riot loved it,
then it's gonna be more to my liking. And also I'll be able to find it on the
site and be able to see like who said that about it and what they thought
about it. Cause I'll be able to read the full blurb, just like you would be
able to do that. So I like to look for a book riot endorsement. The next one is
blind item. And this one-- So a lot of people who live
outside of Los Angeles don't realize that there are actually these things
called the blinds. They're blind items. But they're like they're called the blinds.
And I mean a lot of different people write them. There's not just one.
But they're gossipy tabloid. And they're not even
publications. Like they're not printed there online. That's kind of like, I don't
I don't even know how to explain it. But once you get on one of these lists
and actually only on one because actually a bunch of my mom friends are
on this one, which is kind of funny. If you can imagine a bunch of moms like
reading all these like ahead of the tabloid things. So it's kind of what it
is. Like you're ahead of the tabloids. Like you're gonna read something on the
blinds and then three months later it's gonna come out in the tabloids or the
news that this is what happened. And it's kind of crazy to see what actually comes
out and what doesn't. Because when you're reading them it's kind of a guessing
game. Like is this true or not? Because it's called totally gossip. So it could
be completely false and made-up or can be completely true. And sometimes the
ones that are like it's the most outrageous where you're like no way end
up being true. I mean, it's kind of crazy. So this one is about Hollywood and about
um like this PR like Nicola. Her name is Nicola and she is assistant publicist.
She's an assistant. She's like cleaning up the messes. You're not hearing her
name. And hopefully you're not hearing anybody's name if they're a publicist. It's
really not for them to be like out there saying that they're cleaning up people's
messes. But then she gets involved in one of the messes. And then she and her
friend like, because she and her friends know everything, they're all kind of at
the mercy of each other to like trust that none of these stories will go out to
the blind items or the tabloids. So this one's probably pretty juicy.
And guilty pleasure, which is the sequel actually just came
out in hardback. So if you read this one and you like it, there is the sequel or
the next one to, to read next. The last one is campaign widows and this
one is pretty new, I believe. It's about a woman who moves to New York City. She's
like the new new person there and she realizes once her husband goes out on
campaign that there is a group of women who are left behind. They're called the
campaign widows because they stay behind in DC while their husbands are out on
this like this hot campaign trail. And then they're all movers and shakers
within DC and powerful women and kind of help each other out and bolster each
other up. And this is her story of getting her foot into
that group, learning about them, figuring out who's who and kind of what they can
do for each other. That's what I've gathered from what I've heard about it
and what I've read from the back. So that sounds right up my alley. Like I'm a West
Wing fan to the nth degree. I want to hear about Washington DC.
I mean I want to hear about a Washington DC that I used to think was Washington
DC. And I'm all for this group of women and hearing about what they're doing
behind the scenes. Okay I have more to come next week. But if you have favorite
vacation reads or if you've read anything so far this summer that you're
just like perfect. Somebody has to bring this on a plane. Somebody has to bring it
to the pool. It's so good. You'll read it so fast. Let me know below.
No spoilers, please. And until next Monday, happy reading.
