Missing Persons of America Heather Mounce is accused of stealing from a retirement community and is facing 96 felony charges.

The dramatic helicopter rescue of Heather Mounce in August 2017 made headlines.

After going missing for nearly a week, the Oregon woman was found alive on a cliff and was air-rescued to safety.

Now, Mounce is making headlines for a much more negative reason: she is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a retirement home and charged with nearly 100 felonies.

Here's what you need to know.

Heather Mounce is Accused of Stealing Money From Her Former Employer, a Retirement Community in Dallas, Oregon.

According to the Polk County District Attorney's office, they began looking into the case in 2017.

Investigators accuse Mounce of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the Dallas Retirement Village, her now former employer.

Officials also say she stole funds from the Oregon Center for Nursing and OpenRoad Transportation.

But it wasn't just organizations, prosectors say.

Mounce is also accused of stealing from someone in her care.

That alleged victim has been identified as Antony Emil Britt, a man in his 90s.

According to court documents, Mounce allegedly used Britt's personal information "with the intent to deceive or defraud, convert to defendant's own use, create, obtain, possess, transfer and utter personal identification of" multiple businesses.

Heather Mounce Has a Very Long List of Felony Charges Stacked Against Her.

Heather Mounce is facing 96 Felony Class C charges.

The case against her was filed July 19th in Polk County Circuit Court.

Her defense attorney is listed as Jeffrey Jones.

Mounce's arraignment is scheduled for August 14, where she is expected to plead not guilty.

According to the State of Oregon Judicial Department, the alleged crimes began in September 2013.

The most recent incident, criminal mistreatment in the first degree, allegedly occurred July 14, 2018.

Mounce is facing charges including:.

– 62 counts of identify theft.

– 24 counts of criminal treatment.

– 5 counts of first-degree aggravated theft.

– 6 counts of first-degree theft.

The Dallas Retirement Village is Coordinating with Prosecutors on the Investigation.

The Dallas Retirement Village is a non-profit facility in Dallas, Oregon.

According to its website, it opened for business in 1947 and boasts a "small town" atmosphere situated on 30 acres.

The facility includes at least 116 nursing care beds, apartment homes and a clubhouse.

The organization spoke with local news affiliate KATU News regarding the charges against Mounce.

They told the station:.

"We are working closely with the state and Polk County Attorney's Office in their investigation of this individual and former employee.

The safety and wellbeing of our residents is our top priority and we have comprehensive policies and procedures in place to protect them.

We can assure that she had no access to any personal resident records.".

Mounce's Disappearance in August 2017 Triggered a Massive Hunt.

Heather Mounce vanished for 4 days in August 2017 after going on a hike.

Family members spoke with her on the phone the same day she went missing.

They called police after she failed to return home.

Investigators found her car parked along Highway 101 near the Sea Lion Caves.

Her ID, purse and phone had all been left behind in the car.

On the 4th day of the search, her husband Denton Davison spotted Mounce on the side of the cliff and called 911.

The Coast Guard pilot who led the rescue mission told reporters at the time that Mounce had been clinging to bushes on the cliff.

Police at the time said it did not appear Mounce had been abducted, but had hiked to the cliff of her own free will.

A rescue swimmer rappelled out of the chopper, to grab Mounce.

Strong winds caused the two to sway dramatically as they were lifted back into the helicopter.

The Coast Guard then landed the helicopter on the nearby highway so that Mounce could be checked out by paramedics.

She was ok, despite having spent several nights exposed to the elements.

Her family was ecstatic to have her home safe.

But the happiness was short-lived.

Davison filed for divorce three months later, citing irreconcilable differences.

I had an epiphany today that I just can't wait to share with you, and it has

to do with the social norms that we place around eating.

So, let me tell you what happened. I was going out to lunch with my husband and a colleague today

and we're in the car and I'm driving and my husband's next to me he's like, "Oh ... I'm

so hungry I can't wait to have lunch." And, you know, I just kind of thought about it

for a second I said, "You know, I'm really not that hungry." He looked at me with

like this, "Duh!" look on his face he's like, Well, you don't have to eat. And I'm like,

"What? I don't understand ... I'm going to a restaurant. There's food there.

That's what you're supposed to do. You're supposed to eat!" Then, I just hit the

pause button and I said, "You know ... who says you have to eat? Society?" I guess we're

told from the the time we're kids or trained that, "Oh, you're supposed to have

oh let's say three meals a day. You have breakfast, you have lunch, you have dinner,

and you did it this time, and this time, and this time ... and maybe you have a snack

here and a snack there. Or, even as adults we get bombarded with all

these, Oh, you're supposed to eat this way to be healthy ... like eat every three

hours." Or, maybe you're on have rules from your doctor that eat two to three

meals a day no snacking in between, but whatever it is you've got some norms,

some constraint, some little box put around you. The truth is, is that

you're in control of your journey to right-size living just like I'm in

control of my journey to right-size living. I mean, there's gonna

be people I rely on for certain medical advice or whatnot, but at the end of the

day it's about me and it's about listening to my body and my body said

I'm not hungry. So, here I am at a restaurant and it's one that I love. I

won't mention the name, but naughty-naughty, they have the best

truffle fries in the world. I mean, when you eat these things it's like the

angels are singing! Anyway, I was like I'm not hungry I mean even if it's the

most tempting thing in the world to me I don't

have to eat it. If I really really have a craving for those and I want to indulge

with a treat of truffle fries, then when my body is hungry it's only 15 minutes

away. I can go there and I can have what I'm craving or what I want. So There I was ...

I was at the restaurant; I ordered an unsweetened iced tea and I

sat they're happy as can be. I didn't feel awkward and you know the truth be

told to if I did feel maybe a little bit awkward there was a lot of people around

and I didn't want people asking questions like why aren't you eating

even though it'd be simple to say, "Because I'm not hungry!" Anyway, you can

always order an entree and just ask the server for a to-go box. You don't have to

eat a single bite. You can put it in the to-go box, have it later or whatever. I

mean, it this is your journey. This is your body. You're in control! So anyway,

that was a total epiphany for me and I thought I'd share it with you. Maybe

helpful, maybe not. That's my two cents for the day on what I

Country singer Eric Church places blame on the NRA and gun lobbyists for last October's mass shooting in Las Vegas that left 58 dead.

Church had headlined the show just two days prior to Paddock's rampage.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Church said, "I blame the lobbyists.

And the biggest in the gun world is the NRA.".

Here's what you need to know:.

Church Blames the NRA for the 2017 Las Vegas Shooting.

"There are some things we can't stop.

Like the disgruntled kid who takes his dad's shotgun and walks into a high school," Church said, before saying that the Vegas shooting was different, preventable.

In explaining why the Las Vegas shooting was different from others, Church seemed to take aim at Paddock's ability to amass an arsenal and bump stocks (Paddock owned 47 guns, 23 of which were found in his hotel room and 12 of those were fitted with bump stocks).

Bump stocks, legal attachments across most of the United States — for now — increase the rate of fire on semi-automatic rifles, effectively turning them into fully automatic weapons.

"I don't care who you are — you shouldn't have that kind of power over elected officials.

To me it's cut-and-dried: The gun-show [loophole] would not exist if it weren't for the NRA," Church said.

While the majority of Paddock's guns were purchased from stores across the southwest, in the initial aftermath of the attack, authorities were having trouble tracking guns that could have been bought at gun shows.

The gun-show loophole, as many have come to call it, refers to unlicensed firearms dealers selling guns to people at shows without a background check.

Licensed dealers must complete a background check on a potential customer before selling them a firearm.

Selling guns without a license, gun show or not, is not illegal.

Therefore, some background checks can be overlooked.

However, since most of Paddock's guns were purchased at stores, he submitted and passed numerous background checks.

Church has never been a member of the NRA and said, "if I was an NRA member, I would think I had more of a problem than the solution.

I would question myself real hard about what I wanted to be in the next three, four, five years.".

Church Recognizes That His Stance on the NRA Could Alienate Some Fans, But That's Fine With Him.

Country music has long been associated with conservatives and Republicans, who are more likely to be NRA members than their ideological counterparts.

So, it stands to reason that a portion of his fans are either NRA members or support the NRA.

Church said he doesn't care if he loses fans over his comments.

"Right's right and wrong's wrong.".

"I don't understand why we have to fear a group.

It's asinine.

Why can't we come together and solve one part of this? Start with the bump stocks and the gun shows.

Shut a couple of these down.

I do think that will matter a little bit.

I think it will save some lives," Church said.

Church Owns Six Guns & Considers Himself a "Second Amendment Guy".

In making his comments, Church made it clear that he doesn't oppose the second amendment.

He said he considers himself a "Second Amendment guy.".

"That's in the Constitution, it's people's right, and I don't believe it's negotiable. But nobody should have that many guns and that much ammunition and we don't know about it," Church said.

He went on to say that no one should have "21 AKs and 10,000 rounds of ammunition.".

Church's offhanded "AK" remark was probably made in reference to bump stocks.

AK-47s are fully automatic assault rifles.

Actual machine guns have been effectively banned in the United States for private citizens since the Firearm Owners Protection Act was put in place in 1986.

Church's feelings on stockpiling ammunition are closer to what actually happened in the case of the Vegas shooter.

Paddock fired 1,100 rounds into the crowd and had another 4,000 unused rounds in his hotel room.

Church Headlined the Harvest Festival Two Nights Before the Attack.

Church wasn't at the Harvest Festival during the attack (Jason Aldean was on stage), but he had just played the event two days prior on September 29.

It was his last show of the year.

He told Rolling Stone that it was one of the best shows he's played.

He found out about the shooting that took place two nights later on October 1 via text.

He said his first thought was, "I hope it's not our fans." He added, "We even promoted online travel options to make it easier for people to come.

I felt like the bait: People come to see you play, then all of a sudden they die.".

Some of the deceased were Church's fans.

Multiple members of Church's fan club were victims in the attack.

One of his deceased fans, Sonny Melton, made national news after his wife, Heather, buried him in an Eric Church teeshirt.

Church played a set at the Grand Ole Opry a week later, a show the Meltons had had tickets for.

"The reason I'm here tonight is because of Heather and Sonny, who died," Church said on stage.

"That night, something broke in me, on Sunday when that happened.

And the only way I've ever fixed anything that's been broken in me is with music, so I wrote a song for them.".

Church debuted his song "Why Not Me?" that night as a tribute to the Las Vegas shooting victims.

A 20-year-old man from North Carolina has confessed to killing his coworker doing a hike.

Derek Pendergraft was arrested July 26 and faces a second-degree murder charge.

The body of the 29-year-old woman, who federal investigators identified as Sarah Ellis from Seminole, Florida, was found Tuesday night near a trail.

She had bruising on her neck and was partially nude.

Here's what you need to know.

Pendergraft Reported His Coworker Missing Tuesday Evening After a Hike.

Derek Pendergraft and Sarah Ellis worked at the Pisgah Inn in Canton, North Carolina, off the Blue Ridge Parkwa.

In his first version of the story, Pendergraft told investigators that he and Ellis decided to go for a hike around 4PM Tuesday, July 24.

They set off on a public trail near the Inn's employee housing.

During their walk, it began raining.

Pendergraft said Ellis turned back to the Inn, and he decided to keep hiking.

About an hour later, he claims he found Ellis' umbrella and hat on the ground, but no sign of Ellis.

Pendergraft told investigators he tried looking for her, then returned to the Inn and told other coworkers that Ellis had disappeared.

The general manager of the Pisgah Inn called police around 7:30PM.

First responders found Ellis' body more than two hours later.

She was laying down a hill near a narrow path about half a mile from the property.

According to the criminal complaint, she was partially nude and had bruising on her neck and neck.

Just 24 Hours Later, Pendergraft's Story Changed Dramatically.

The general manager of the Pisgah Inn called investigators Wednesday the 25th.

She told them that Pendergraft had come to her office and confessed to killing Ellis.

Park Service special agent Kirby Styles, who signed the criminal complaint, and FBI special agent W.

Gang immediately went back out to the Inn to question Pendergraft.

According to the criminal complaint, the agents told Pendergraft he was not under arrest and could not be forced to answer their questions.

But Pendergraft agreed to a recorded interview anyway.

He told the investigators that after it started raining and Ellis wanted to turn around, he blacked out.

He did not give specifics as to why he may have blacked out, and claims to not remember what happened next.

Pendergraft says that after he came back to his senses, he was looking at Ellis' face and that she appeared dead.

An Autopsy Was Planned for Friday to Determine How Sarah Ellis Died.

The criminal complaint states that Sarah Ellis did not show any signs of trauma from a physical weapon.

There were no gunshot wounds or she did not show any signs of being hit with anything sharp or edged.

All investigators said was there were "signs of foul play.".

An autopsy was scheduled for Friday July 27 to determine cause of death.

FBI investigators say Ellis' family had been notified.

It's Unclear What Sort of Relationship Pendergraft Had with Ellis.

Asheville local news outlet The Citizen Times reports that the Pisgah Inn employs about 100 workers on a seasonal basis, from April through October.

Nearly half of those workers live in dorm-style housing near the Inn.

Ellis began working there in May and lived in the provided housing.

Ellis began working at the Inn in May as a pantry cook.

Owner Bruce O'Connell told the Citizen Times that because the workers live in close proximity for several months, close bonds tend to develop fast.

He said Ellis quickly fit in with the group, but that he did not know what kind of relationship she had with Pendergraft.

Pendergraft Was Arrested and Currently Being Held Without Bond.

Derek Pendergraft is behind bars at the Buncombe County Detention Center.

There is no bond listed, meaning he probably has not had an initial hearing yet.

He has no prior criminal history in the county.

Pendergraft is listed as a federal inmate.

A representative says that because he is listed as a federal inmate, information about court dates and bonds is not kept on record at the detention center.

Ukrainian chess player Lyudmila Rudenko is being celebrated with a Google Doodle on what would have been her 114th birthday.

As an International Master in the World Chess Federation (FIDE) and later Woman Grandmaster," Google writes in its description, "Rudenko made a career paving the way for women to come… In 1950, Rudenko became the second woman ever to win the Women's World Chess Championship—a title she held until 1953.

In addition to her prowess on the chess board, Rudenko helped organize the evacuation of children during the Siege of Leningrad in World War II– an accomplishment she felt was the most important of her life.

Here's what you need to know about Lyudmila Rudenko:.

She Began Playing Chess As a Hobby When She Was Attending College.

Rudenko was born in Lubny, in the Poltava region of Ukraine, on July 27, 1904.

She was taught by her father how to play chess, but she preferred swimming as a child, and would go on to became the swimming champion in the 400 m breaststroke at her Odessa school.

In 1925, she was crowned the swimming vice-champion of Ukraine in the breaststroke category.

She obtained a degree in economics, and by 1929 she had moved to Moscow to begin her career as a member of the economic planning committee for the Soviet Union.

It during this period of her life that she began to nourish her interest in chess. Rudenko began playing tournament chess in the late 1920s, and in 1928, she won the Moscow Women's Championship.

She Organized a Train to Evacuate Children From the Siege of LeningradWikipedia CommonsLyudmila Rudenko.

Rudenko's career as a chess player continued to gain traction throughout the 1930s and 40s, but it was put on hold when World War II broke out.

Now living in Leningrad, Rudenko aided the surrounding denizens and organized a massive evacuation of children during the siege of the city.

The siege went on for two years, killing around four million militants and hundreds of thousands more civilians.

It is unclear how many children Rudenko saved with her efforts, but the chess player often referred to it as the "most important thing" she'd ever done.

After World War II ended, her chess career resumed, and she participated in the historic "Radio Match Great Britain" in 1946.

It was the first event organized by the.

"Anglo – Russian" chess club, and it was promptly recognized by both chess federations.

According to AMICI, the match was an opportunity to demonstrate.

She Became the 2nd Woman to Win the Women's World Chess Championship In 1950.

After Vera Menchik, the Women's World Champion, died during an air raid in 1944, a tournament was organized to determine her successor.

So, in the winter of 1949, the World Chess Federation FIDE held a tournament in Moscow to determine the new women's champion.

Sixteen women from twelve different countries competed, including Rudenko.

With a record nine wins, one loss, and five draws, Rudenko became the new Women's World Champion in 1950.

She was 40 years old.

She held the title until 1953, when she lost to Elisaveta Bykova. In his book Soviet Chess, author D.J.

Richards details the conditions under which Rudenko competed.

"Chess became an intellectual cause celebre in the Soviet Union.

Success in the game was an important demonstration of the success of the Revolution, inside and outside the country," he wrote.

"Chess masters became intellectual ambassadors, and it was nationally important that they be perceived as successful.".

Richards also wrote of the stipulations that women who competed had to contend with.

 "Grandmaster Nikolai Krogius, on behalf of the Soviet chess federation, wouldn't allow questions to be asked of their women players regarding their creative strengths, whether they be imaginative or based on technique," he added.

She Has One Son With Her Husband Lev Davidovich Goldstein.

Rudenko was married to scientist Lev Davidovich Goldstein, the founder of the department of cybernetics in the military academy named after Mozhaisky.

A close friend of Rudenko's, E.

Bishard, says that there is still a plaque honoring Goldstein at the academy.

In 1931, the couple gave birth to their only son, Vladimir. "She was playing chess, she was bringing up her son and working at a printing-office," recalls Bishard.

"It was a severe time.".

After World War II, Rudenko dedicated herself to playing chess full-time.

She and her family were welcoming of other players, and would often invite them to stay at their home.

"She loved people, received guests hospitably and kept an open table," said Bishard.

"When chess players from other cities came and had no place to stay, she spread a big carpet on the floor so that everybody could sleep.

She was hot-tempered, liked the process of playing and the result.".

In addition to chess, Bishard said that Rudenko also had an interest in collecting art and books.

"She had an excellent library, the books were alive for her," she said.

"She liked to present them and lend for reading.".

She Was Inducted Into the World Chess Hall of Fame In 2015.

Rudenko went on to earn chess titles well into her old age, including the title of International Master and the 1976 Woman Grandmaster.

She eventually passed away at the age of 81 on March 4, 1986. In 2015, she was inducted into the World Chess Hall of Fame.

"2004 is the year of centenary of the first Soviet woman's world champion," Bishard wrote, commemorating her old friend.

"International woman's chess tournament is held in Petersburg in her memory.

Young chess players take part in it, they play, they play in a new way, advocating new principles.".

"They haven't seen [Rudenko] while alive, she is a symbol for them – world champion," she concluded.

"Yes, she is a symbol, symbol of the past epoch, embodiment of its best features.".

This is not the first time Lohan, 35, has been arrested or had a run-in with law enforcement.

Kate Major Lohan, married to Lindasy Lohan's father since 2014, was arrested by Boca Raton police justvafter 3 a.m.

Besides an update on the Palm Beach County Sheriff's 'booking blotter,' where Lohan was listed as in custody, it's noted she wsa charged with batter "BATTERY – TOUCH OR STRIKE.".

Less than two years ago, Lohan was arrested by Delray Beach police on charges of battery on a law-enforcement officer, disorderly intoxication and resisting an officer.

She pleaded guilty and was let go with "time served." She'd been in jail.

In a Racist, Expletive-Laden Rant Last Summer, Lohan Described Herself as a 'White Supremacist'.

Lohan went on a graphically expletive-laden racist and homophobic rant last summer, threatened to kill police and was taken into custody under Florida's Baker Act.

Police said they were taking her in under the Baker Act because she wanted to "kill us and other people.

"Bitch, I'd like to kill you.

" She also called the African-American police officer, who is calm and poised as she spews hate speech at him.

As it was being explained why she was going to be paced on a psych hold, Lohan said in the video, "Why would I be Baker Act'ed? Why because you;re a black fuc*ing miserable fu*k? Because you have no other job? I'm sorry but this country, including me, is part of white supremacy because you fuc*ing monkeys don't know how to do your job." At the end of the day, you guys were all slaves and you belong slaves and that's all you'll ever be good at is fuc*ing slaves," she says with a white hood covering her face.

"I'd love to be more a part of white supremacy because you're all a bunch of fuc*ing monkeys.".

And in a homophobic tirade, Lohan called a female officer a "dyke" several times and accused the officer of touching her breasts.

The three police officers go out of their way to be calm and do not react to her spitting racist and homophobic hate speech.

Lohan Was Charged With Battery & Was Ordered Not to Drink or Take Drugs in 2015, She & Her husband Lost Custody of Their Kids.

The Palm Beach Post reported in 2015 that based on police reports, Lohan "came home drunk and used long, acrylic fingernails to scratch her husband Michael…".

She was charged with domestic battery.

But Palm Beach Circuit judge Caroline Shepherd said Lohan would "not be allowed to consume alcohol or non-prescription drugs." The judge allowed her to stay with her husband and children.

At the time it was reported she was going through alcohol detox but was unsuccessful and began drinking wine and, the police report said, she "smelled of alcohol, had red, glossy eyes and slurred speech.

" Lohan initially told first repsonders that Michael Lohan "grabbed her neck" and then she "started scratching her own neck, trying to create red marks," according tot he report.

Then, the Lohan's lost custody of their children.

Following the 2015 arrest of Kate Lohan, the couple lost their two young children temporarily by a Florida judge who sided with the state's Dept.

Florida DCF got a hold of video that showed the Lohan's brawling in front of their two-year-old son and two-month-old baby.

Placed in the care of their paternal grandmother, the couple had to be monitored to see their kids on visits.

The judge also ordered both to enter anger management counseling.

In 2016, Kate Lohan was ordered to serve six months in jail for her various battery and DUI charges.

She was reunited with her husband and children following her incarceration.
