Hi everyone, it's B!
Wellcome to my YouTube channel Becky's DIY solutions.
In this video I'm gonna show you how to make a high low skirt like this.
Making this skirt is so easy.
If you are a beginner in sewing and looking for something to sew in a short time, this
tutorial may be right for you, because this skirt has no zippers!
I think there is only one tricky part in this, which is the calculation process before cutting
the fabric.
But I'll try to explain it in a very simple way.
So let's begin!
The needed tools for this high low skirt are an elastic band, a measuring tape, a marking
tool, scissors, pins and a ruler.
To make this high low skirt, you'll need to cut your fabric as this kind of circle
shape: one part is shorter and the other part is longer.
To make this circle shape, decide the front and the back lenght first and note them down.
Measure your waist then and add 20 cm to this measurement, since the skirt will have ruffles,
and divide this number to 6.28 to find the inner radius.
Let's call it "r" and note this "r" lenght down, too.
The total lenght of the fabric will be the bigger radius.
Let's call it capital R – The "capital R" will be the sum of these measurements:
The front lenght, the back lenght plus 2 cm on the each side for hemming and 1+1 cm on
the middle for the extra seam allowance.
Afterwards, take your fabric and cut a square shape with the side lenghts as the bigger
radius "the capital R".
Fold it half twice like this and start measuring the half R lenghts from the corner and mark
little dots on the fabric.
Since my fabric was not suitable for marking, I pinned the dots instead.
Then, cut the fabric according to these markings and you have the circle shape now.
Open one fold back as a half circle and slide one side down a little until this lenght will
be the measurement of the back lenght minus the front lenght.
To make this process easier, mark the middle line first and then start sliding the fabric
on this middle line.
Afterwards, beginning from the middle, start measuring the inner radius length and mark
these measurements on the fabric, and cut this part out.
After you are done with cutting, hem the outer edge of the fabric by folding it inside twice.
Circle side hemming may be a little difficult, so it's better to iron the edges before
hemming to make it easier and smoother.
Then, make a zigzag stitch over the inner raw edge.
If your fabric is transparent or lace as mine, you may want to attach an inner lining for
your skirt.
For the lining, take a plain fabric and cut the width as 2 cm more of the waistline lenght
of the circle for the seam allowances, and the lenght will be maximum as the same as
the hemmed front part, so that the lining won't be seen below your skirt.
Then, fold the lining in half as right sides together, sew the sides with a straight stitch
and zigzag stitch over the raw edges and hem this edge by folding it inside twice.
Afterwards, cut an elastic band with a lenght that you're comfortable with.
Take the elastic band, attach the ends with a straight stitch for 2 times and make a zigzag
stitch for the raw edge.
Now it's time to make all the parts together!
First, take the lining, place it into the circle skirt as the right side facing the
wrong side of the skirt.
Take the elastic band, place it over the circle skirt as the right sides together and pin
it to both the skirt fabric and the lining by stretching a little and sew this part with
a wide zigzag stitch by strecthing it again and that's it!
You've just made a high low skirt!
