What's the one thing that no matter how rich or poor you are, no matter how tall, short, Black, White, anything...
We all have an equal amount of? If you said "time",
You'd be absolutely right. It doesn't matter who you are in this world,
from a pauper, all the way to the mightiest, richest, wealthiest person, we all share
24 hours in a day.
Well, how important is that time and how much are you going to get out of it?
You know for the longest time, I've been wondering, "What is one of the things that really
deters students from going to college and wanting to
pursue something that's for them?", and
I've come up with quite a few things,
which is part of what this series is about. Well, one of the things that people rarely consider, but students always talk about is TIME.
"It's gonna take sooo long to do that". You know, those students that say, "Absolutely not!
I don't want to be a doctor because it takes so many years to do that". That's what they're thinking about.
Well, I'm here to tell you that, honestly you
can reach a career and you can have a career
that's going to serve your needs,
support you and your family, and really give you a great quality of life for a very short amount of time.
I'm not going to tell you that you can invest zero time, because that's impossible.
Even people who don't end up going to school and maybe end up being millionaires somewhere else,
You couldn't count the amount of hours that they work,
nights that they miss sleep, in order to reach that dream. You couldn't count it!
There's no way, but I can tell you that there's ways to satisfy
the need for you to do something great with your life, to support a family, to really do something meaningful, without having to do
so many years of school and
trust me when I tell you... I
have completed 23
years of school, okay? I
just want to tell you just to give you insight. I'm only 35.
Twenty-three of my 35 years have been involved in school, and
granted, I have the education, I have the degrees to show for it, but
did I have to invest that much time? The answer is, "Absolutely not".
It's a decision that I made because of what it is that I want to do.
But, I can give you an example of people who are reaching
great heights in their careers and only invested, initially, in terms of education, a few months of time.
"How is that even possible?", you ask? Well,
We have trade schools. Trade schools are schools that are directly targeting that career that you want to go.
I'll give you an example like welding, alright, because my daughter...she's
beautiful as she is, smart as she is, and she loves to weld. She's going to be amazing at it.
My son, also, is in the middle of going into a welding school himself.
Not because welding is any part of our family or anything like that, but they found something that they like.
Here's a difference...
My son's program is about a year or so;
my daughter will go to school, she'll do a two-year program, okay? Well, what's the difference?
They're both going to
get the same licensure. They'll be able to do the same type of job.
My son is going into a trade school
He's going specifically for welding. Every class, everything that he does is for welding. My daughter,
she's going to college route. So, she's gonna be taking other classes that can prepare her for other things
she wants to do. Incidentally, she wants to eventually have her own business,
so she can take classes that have to do with that, okay? Which one is better? Honestly,
they would tell you it's their own personal choice. What they want to do in their careers or in their lives
dictated what it is that they wanted to do moving forward. And,
that's what I'm trying to tell you: The amount of time that you put in is a direct relation *in* direct relation
to your passion. I
believe that both of them are going to go in, they're going to do what they need to do, and go from there. And then,
afterwards they're going to devote time to their practice because they want to be the best that they can be.
But each one is taking a different route for the same career.
Real estate agents - real estate agents who can make millions of dollars selling real estate,
investing in real estate, knowing all about the market and all those things. I think every one of us has had some sort of
Interaction with a realtor or somebody trying to buy them a house, sell them a house, or you know somebody who's been in that process.
These people make a bunch of money and you wouldn't believe
how little time in terms of education that they require...months in some cases. I
mention that only because that's where it starts. Real estate agents, just like welders, just like doctors, lawyers, or anyone else...
The time only starts when you get to that point. You still have to work toward
building that career and getting better and better and better.
But what if you don't want to go through all the schooling, like
medical professionals, or lawyers, or engineers, or people like that?
Well if you go to a program, like in my daughter's case,
she'll graduate after two years of going to college for a welding
certificate and have that, and in two years, she can start. She'll be twenty years old and she could start a career...
at twenty...
with benefits, making money that she probably can't even imagine, and her friends that are gonna be the same age are gonna be like,
"How's that possible?"
She found her passion, which was the first part of this series, and now she
realized the amount of time she has to put in and made a decision.
Okay?
That's the idea; twenty years old, she could start a career. At twenty years old. I was still in school.
I was still in college because I went that route.
When you think about, when she's 20 years old and you add 15 years so she can get to 35 like I am,
there's a very good possibility that girl would have made more money by the time she's 35
than I've made now and I'm 35.
Certainly, I hope she has more her bank account than I do.
But, my point in all this is simple:
After you've discovered your passion, you really have to figure out
how long is going to take to go on that road, okay?
I know people that went in, and, they just they couldn't handle being in school. They dropped out,
they did something else, and they realized that that was the best thing for them
My brother...
could have gone...started out on the four-year college process,
realized it was not for him. It was gonna be too long. It wasn't what he wanted. Went instead into a trade school
to do radio.
The man is not even 30 years old yet, and has already run
several stations out in the midwest. Top-40 stations in huge markets. I'm talking cities like Cincinnati.
You know this is not small-town stuff. He discovered his passion,
realized how much time it would take, and was willing to go after it. And now,
before 30 years old, is having arguably more success than
somebody who was gone the college route and has been at it for so many years.
He is happy, he loves what he does.
He has videos all over the place with celebrities and all those things. He's living a life that he wants,
because he found this passion, he realized the time, and he devoted himself to it. It's that simple.
Some of you, it'll be six months. Some of you, a year. Some of you, two years.
But I promise you when you discover what it is that you want to do,
your drive will get you through that time and you'll be very happy at the end that you've done it.
Many people have done it before. You don't have to go through the many, many years of those "Glamour Careers" like I call them.
Because many times, those glamour careers come with a whole lot of time commitment. We need doctors.
We need lawyers. But, we don't need everyone to be a doctor. We don't need everyone to be a lawyer.
Think about that; the time you take now to discover your passions and do your research is time well spent, and time well invested.
You will come out on top. You will love what you do. I can assure you. God bless.
