A tripod is one of the most important pieces of gear that you should own and use as a photographer.

Yet I see so many photographers struggle to choose the right tripod and even worse not

use them properly or even worse yet - not use them when they should be using them.

So in this two part video set I am going to demystify tripods and give you 10 awesome

tips to make your tripod work magic for your photography.

Stay tuned!

Hey gang!

My name is Joe Edelman and my mission is to help photographers like YOU to develop a solid

understanding of the HOWS & WHYS behind great photography so that you can achieve your goals

as a photographer.

This is a tripod - pretty simple right?

I mean how hard is it to set-up and use a tripod?

Back in the mid 1990's, I read a book called The Camera by the great Ansel Adams.

To quote Adams, "Many photographers casually set up the tripod and use the various tilts

and adjustments in a haphazard way.

It is preferable, however, to be more methodical in setting up the tripod, to provide precise

positioning of the camera and the greatest possible stability."

Hopefully you realize that the lesson there goes well beyond using a tripod.

I remember as a teenager that using a tripod was actually kind of cool.

People took me more seriously like I actually knew what I was doing or like I was a working

professional.

The reality is that a tripod is an investment in your ability to take great pictures - just

like a camera - so do your research and don't cheap out

To take pictures at slow shutter speeds without getting camera shake

To take photos in low light with longer shutter speeds

To use much smaller apertures giving you greater depth of field.

The smaller aperture will generally require a slower shutter speed - hence the need for

a tripod.

To shoot a series of frames that will stitch together in a panorama or extremely high resolution

image.

To create High Dynamic Range images where you need to shoot a series of frames at different

exposures without any movement from one frame to the next.

For time lapse photography

For astrophotography

To make better self portraits - especially on vacation

To shoot video

To slow you down and force you to be more deliberate with your decisions.

There are many different kinds of tripods.

For the most part we can divide them into five basic groups.

Pocket tripods are usually less than 6 inches collapsed.

A pocket tripod will easily fit into a bag or waist-pack and they are very handy when

you don't not want carry something bigger and heavier.

Pocket tripods will support the weight of a smartphone or compact digital camera.

Look for one that has some sort of adjustable head, even if it's really basic.

Tabletop tripods are excellent for situations where the camera and tripod can be placed

on a small flat surface.

Their light, small, and easy to pack so they're great for travel.

Put it on a table, set the self-timer, and you can include yourself in the shot.

Or, turn your tabletop tripod sideways and place it against a wall or a pole to give

you more stability when shooting.

And since they hold the camera close to the ground, they're great for low camera angles.

Travel Tripods will usually bring your camera to just shy of eye level, but collapse to

an easy-to-carry size.

Travel tripods will support a digital or film SLR with a kit lens, or even a modest zoom

lens.

Avoid using long zooms or heavy telephoto lenses on a travel tripod - they tend to be

front heavy and can cause the tripod to tip.

Travel tripods that collapse down to 22 inches or shorter will fit in most airline carry-on

luggage.

Medium Duty Tripods fill the gap between lightweight travel tripods and heavier studio tripods.

The big advantage over travel tripods is that most medium duty models reach eye level or

higher, they are heavier and therefore even sturdier - hence much better when image sharpness

is critical.

Some models come without a head and then create a custom configuration by buying the head

separately.

Studio Tripods are very sturdy and usually designed to fit a specific need.

They are big, sometimes immovable and nearly always used with a specialized head.

They are designed to handle medium and large-format cameras.

There are eight features or characteristics that are common to pretty much all tripods.

The more you understand these characteristics - the easier it will be to select the perfect

tripod for your needs.

Collapsed Size is how long the tripod measures with everything folded up.

This is important if you are traveling or need to pack the tripod in a bag, camera case

or suit case.

Maximum Height Extension is how tall the tripod will stand with the center column and every

leg fully extended.

The Maximum Load Capacity is the heaviest camera and lens combination the tripod or

tripod head can handle.

If you put a camera that's heavier than the Maximum Load Capacity on a tripod, you

run the risk of it breaking or collapsing and causing damage.

So, it's important to know how much your camera weighs with its heaviest lens and any

accessories, and then buy a tripod that will handle them.

The weight is simply how much the tripod weighs.

Head Type – There are basically three types of tripod heads.

Pan-Tilt Heads – either with a single handle for horizontal movement or dual handles for

both horizontal and vertical movement.

This is the most common type of head that is typically built into cheaper tripods.

Ball-Heads – compared to pan-tilt heads, most ball-heads only have one control that

loosens or tightens the grip.

They are very flexible and allow very smooth operation while keeping the camera and lens

securely tightened.

Gimbal Heads – are specialized heads for long and heavy lenses.

Compared to pan-tilt heads and ball-heads, gimbal heads perfectly balance the camera

and heavy lens.

They are extremely easy to use in any direction and do not require tightening the head every

time the camera/lens moves.

They are great for sports and wildlife photography.

Regardless of which head type you choose, I strongly recommend choosing one with a quick

release.

There is nothing more irritating than fumbling with a tripod that has a 1/4 20 thread on

the head.

Once you have mounted your camera if you want to grab it to do a quick hand held shot or

even just to move the tripod - you would have to unscrew the threads from the camera and

then repeat the process all over when you are ready to mount the camera back on the

tripod.

Depending on the brand or model, a tripod may or may not come with a head.

Regardless, you will need one.

Feet come in rubber non-slip pads for most indoor and some outdoor shooting or a spike

which is best for outdoor shooting, the spikes hold the tripod firmly in the ground; and

depending on the tripod brand and model you may be able to add wheels or even ball bearing

feet.

Leg Locks are most commonly available as Twist types where you twist the leg to pull it out,

twist it in reverse to lock it in position or Lever locks where you open a lever to pull

a leg out, close it to lock it and there are also some custom options.

The Common Material – is what most of the tripod is made of.

The most common material is aluminum because it's inexpensive, but in the case of a heavy

duty tripod it can also add a lot of weight.

Carbon fiber is extremely durable and lightweight but indeed more expensive.

Some cheap tripods are made from plastic - the operative word being cheap and for the old

school large format shooters you can still find wooden tripods which are valuable if

you want to get your Ansel Adams game on.

I recommend buying a tripod that matches your height or is taller, so that you do not have

to bend to look into the viewfinder.

Once you put your camera on a tripod, the viewfinder should be at your eye level unless

you need to adjust for a creative camera angle.

Explore your camera angles BEFORE you open and set-up your tripod.

Since it takes time and effort to setup a tripod and since we tend to be a little lazier

about moving the tripod once it is set up - take a few moments to explore camera angles

and lens combinations for your shot - before you set-up the tripod.

This way you know you are beginning with an interesting camera angle.

Only extend the tripod legs only when needed.

The less you extend the legs - the sturdier you tripod will be.

Extend the thickest part of the tripod legs first, then the thinnest, for the most stability.

Before spreading the tripod's legs, adjust each leg's length.

This ensures that the legs are the same length and your tripod will be level.

However, if you are shooting on uneven ground, you will need to adjust each leg once the

tripod is in the correct spot.

If you are shooting outside in mud or on a beach - do extend just a little bit of the

bottom leg first so that you keep the locking mechanism out of the mud or sand.

Avoid the center column - it is the weakest and least stable part of your tripod.

There is no point in having your tripod solidly placed on three legs and then raising the

center column as high as it goes so that it can move around like a camera on a monopod.

The center column should only be used as a last resort.

Since you are usually working from the back of the camera, face a single tripod leg toward

the focal point of your composition.

Having two legs on the back side will create more stability and is less of a trip hazard.

Add some weight to the tripod.

Many tripods come with a hook at the bottom of the center column that will allow you to

hang a backpack or weight to add additional stability if you are working in windy conditions

or if your tripod is a bit too lightweight for the gear you have attached to it.

You can also use an accessory like the Stand Daddy that I talked about in this video and

attach small weights to the tripod legs.

Don't move the tripod with your camera attached.

Sure just a quick little move especially in an indoor setting it's no big deal, but

if you're shooting on location and especially working on rough terrain - don't risk having

the camera fall off the tripod or even simply stumbling while carrying the tripod.

Switch-off image stabilization and or vibration reduction while using a tripod.

When you are shooting with image stabilization or vibration reduction turned on, your lens

generates a minor shake that is meant to counter-act your hand movements.

This vibration ultimately reaches the camera and can introduce camera motion in your photos

when shooting at slower shutter speeds.

Use the mirror lock-up feature on your camera.

The shake caused by your cameras mirror may not affect your photos while you are shooting

at a fast shutter speed, but as you slow down the shutter speed the shake can become visible

in your photos.

To eliminate this, just manually lock the movement of the mirror.

This can easily be done by activating the mirror lock-up feature in your DSLR.

Check your camera's menu settings or consult the user manual to find out how.

Use the 2-second timer or a remote shutter release.

If you press the camera's shutter release while shooting at a slow shutter speed you

risk introducing camera movement even with the camera on a heavy tripod.

By using the 2-second timer feature you can do away with the camera shake as you are allowing

2 seconds for the camera to absorb that minor shake before exposing the photo.

If you want to be extra cautious and not take any chances, you can use a remote shutter

release or cable that allows you to shoot without touching the camera at all.

So there you have it.

Spending several hundred dollars on a tripod is definitely not as sexy or satisfying as

buying a new lens or camera body, but it is every bit as important.

While you are shooting, setting up the tripod may take some extra prep time, but the results

are worth the effort.

You'll also have to slow down and really think through how you want to set up a photograph

or what angle would work best with your subjects.

With just a little practice, you may find that using a tripod is easier than you think.

Next up in this two part video series on Tripods.

High Five - 5 Places To Learn Languages - Duration: 4:20.

Hi everyone and welcome to another clip by us, the Superpolyglotbros.

I'm Matthew, and I'm Michael.

And today we're going to talk about places

where we can learn languages.

That's right. Now some of you might be thinking

about more conventional places such as community colleges

or schools or university where we can learn a language.

In this clip however we'd like to present you

with five more obscure places where we can learn.

Place number five - In bed.

Now this is the part of the house

which we use mainly to rest

and let our brain wind down and relax

so why not use it to learn a new language?

It's a great and comfy place to go over some vocabulary we've just learned,

read a newspaper on our phone or laptop

or read a bilingual novel

just before going to bed.

In fact, studies have shown that

sleeping just after learning new material

is beneficial for recalling and retaining information

so the next time you pop off to the Land of Nod,

why not take some literature with you for your journey?

Place number four - In the bus, train or on a plane.

Now this might come as a bit of a surprise

because it's probably the last place you'd think of

as a place to learn:

it's noisy, it's packed with people and very uncomfortable.

But we can use this time whilst going to school

or whilst going to work

in a very productive way

that will help us improve our language skills

Is your seat neighbour constantly on the phone?

Well, why not whip your phone out as well and

listen to some music in the language

and why not read the lyrics on your phone as well?

Or how about jumping on a quick Skype call for conversation practice?

Or what about a podcast to improve your pronunciation?

Or how about a game you can play in the language?

The opportunities here are endless

and help that endless journey go by in no time at all.

Place number three - In the bathroom.

Strange place to use a language you'd say

but it actually offers some great opportunities.

If you've been learning vocabulary

why not write the words down on sticky notes?

And stick them around the bathroom

and especially around the mirror

so when it comes to brushing your teeth in the morning and evening

you'll have tons of words, phrases and grammar to be learning

while you're getting your pearly whites sparkling.

So after you've spent two to three minutes brushing your teeth,

why not spend a further two to three minutes

practising the language in front of a mirror?

Have a conversation with yourself in the language

just like you would do with a speaking partner.

It's a great exercise to see how your mouth, face and body move

and it's a great way to help improve your pronunciation.

Place number two - Your living room.

Yes, you heard it. That's right.

It's time to sit back and relax in the comfort of your very own living room.

Turn the TV on and watch your favourite series

or a film with subtitles in your own language.

If you're feeling lucky or a little bit daring however

you can watch the same series or film

this time in a different language

and with subtitles in another language.

Alternatively, rock it out in another language.

Swap your usual radio station

for another one in another part of the continent

or even another part of the world.

By having the radio on in the background

you'll be passively taking in new phrases, words and expressions.

Language learning isn't always about

actively learning and acquiring

vocabulary and grammar.

A lot of what we learn is actually through passive acquisition.

And who knows? Maybe you'll discover your next favourite band along the way.

Place number one - With a local in your local!

Head on down to your local Italian, Greek

German, Spanish, Turkish, Armenian

Kazakh, Ethiopian, Chinese, Korean, Thai,

Indian, Japanese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Argentinian

Samoan, South African, Moroccan, Canadian...

From a restaurant to your local grocery store,

from reading the menu in the language to actually ordering in the language,

or maybe just looking for products in the language,

there are so many ways you can use a language

without having to travel that far.

Do you have a favourite place for learning?

If so, let us know in the comments below.

We'll be back with another clip soon

so until then, it's

"tara for now"

Tschüss

Fins aviat

Adiós

See you later

Ciao

Packing Skills: Why You Should Never Check a Bag - Duration: 1:39.

The reason you want to carry on is pretty easy:

people lose their bags. And this happened to me recently, I had three or four

people just in the fall season on my tours lose their bags. And the problem

with that, is that they spent two or three days

wrangling with airlines, and debating with airlines, and trying to figure

things out. And in

in one case, at great expense, they had their bags delivered to them at a later

point on the tour.

So what I would think is better for everyone is just bring only what you can

carry on. Don't look at the restrictions from the airline as being something

negative,

think about it as something positive, something that's helping you to actually

restrict what you bring.

Now, the first time I went to Europe I was 11 years old. I went with my parents, it

was in the '80s, and my bag was bigger than my own body.

It was, I would say, about this big, it had a leash like a dog, and I could actually

have ridden it had I wanted to, it was so huge. And of course, because I had a

bag that big, I filled it. I filled it with everything an 11-year-old could

possibly need.

I put in stuffed animals, and books, and everything like this, not thinking, "oh

well I don't really need all that stuff," and probably half of it I never even

used, because I was too busy traveling. But that was kind of the way of things

back in the '80s, if you traveled back then you probably have the same bag.

And in fact, bags have changed even just in the past 15 years since I've been

doing this job for Rick Steves. The bag that I started out with, it was a Rick

Steves bag, I just took on a trip with me last week and it was too big to get on

the carry-on of the airplane.

So, even just in the last few years, the airlines have gotten more and more

strict about the size. But that's great, because that means that you don't need

to carry as much with you.

So look at the restrictions as being your friend, not your enemy.

AYL San Juan Hole In The Rock Trail Lake Powell Tokyo Japan Steadmans Snow Check - Duration: 28:51.

ZACH CIPRIANO: We're hitting one

t="567"of the most historic and

t="1034"technically

difficult trails in the West today on At Your Leisure, and we hope we

survive the trip! Darren and Jill are exploring the eastern half of the

Hole in the Rock trail. Then join me, Zach Cipriano, as I return to

Japan for a bit of real life Mario Cart racing through the streets of

Tokyo. Last but not least Malia Stringham finds out why you don't have

to wait for winter to pull out your snowboard. All you need is a little

sand. Own the outdoors with AYL, starting now!

(Theme Music Up)

Jill: Welcome to At Your Leisure, I'm Jill Kinder

Darren: and I'm Darren Kinder and we're down here on the Hole in the

Rock Trail in San Juan County, and we're out to find out how the pioneers

made it.

Jill: [Laughs] I don't know how they made it on this road back then but

it's amazing.

Darren: Now, Chad and Ria came out and did the west side of the road here

a few weeks ago, but were going to try the east side of the road which is

a little tougher to get down here and find. But it's a really neat trail.

We're just on the east side of Lake Powel and going to ride down to the

Ren Con and overlook lake Powel and so it should be an absolutely cool

experience. Now it's about forty three miles out there and so we brought

our camping gear and were going to spend the night out there and then

were going to return tomorrow morning. So it should be a great adventure.

Jill: Ya, we are so excited about this trip, it's going to be a lot of

fun. It's a technical trail; we've got great experienced people with us.

So, it should be a lot of fun,

let's check out more about Hole in the Rock Trail.

Scott: Hole in the Rock trail was a trail that originally the pioneers

came from Escalon to Bluff I believe it is on their horse and wagons,

and really a very interesting trail. Took quite the time to come across

the Colorado River at the time and make it up through all the sand stone.

Just a great variety, good trail over forty miles long one way, some

challenging sections, some fun sections. We started out on gravel roads

for ten or fifteen miles, nice and easy, well-marked so you can find

your way. Then, we start getting in to some more technical areas with a

lot of sand stone, a lot of rocky areas, drop down into a wash here and

there. One of the tougher spots is climbing up to what they call the Great

Mesa. It's a very rugged rocky trail.

Will: Certainly by far the most difficult trail I've been on as far as

technicalities and what not. Some of the canyons and some of the rocky

areas where you could never see the ground until you were standing

straight up and down on it. We got to stop today and we got to listen

to some relative of one of the first pioneers, got a little bit of

history as to how long ago it happened and what it took for the pioneers

to be able to do it.

Pioneers Descendant: This is the original pioneer road, the original Hole

in the Rock road, and what happened was some people in Glan came and my

mining company improved this, and what they did they came in and they

said "Let's leave that pristine." It's called slip rocks, that's what

it's called, the portion of the trail.

Scott: You've got to be prepared, you've got to have a spare tire,

you've got to have tire repair kits, you've got to have belts, you've

got to have tools, you've got to have extra fuel, carry it safely.

You've just got to figure you're out in the wilderness, the phone

service is pretty good, but there's not a lot of people to help you if

you have trouble. But, the best part about hole in the rock is nobody's

here. It's more remote than most areas, San Juan County is more remote

and it's just a great place to go and get away from the crowds and

enjoy a nice trail.

Will: With school going and kids and the things that they're doing and

all of the different activities to be able to have someone on one time,

you can't ask for anything better than that.

Scott: Just beautiful sand stone scenery, Southern Utah, San Juan County.

Jill: Maybe you can see but Lake Powel is right back there behind us

and as we go through the day we'll get a little bit closer and closer

to until we are about a mile away, and so that's our destination.

Darren: Hopefully we'll be able to look over the water this afternoon.

Jill: Ya! But, it's been fun so far. What do you think?

Darren: I really like it, it's a really fun trail, it's not too tough

so far. It's really cool to see, there are like these little cuts in

the rock and it looks like you can almost see there where the old

wagon trail almost went through here. It's a real peace of history,

because these guys really, you know, Brigham Young sent them out of

Escalon to head over and Subtle Bluff and so they had their work cut

out for them. But apparently they did a great job and everybody arrived

safely and so we're hoping the same for ourselves today.

Jill: That's right, well we've got a long way to go, so why don't you

take a look at our travel adventure which Zach is in Japan figuring out

how to Mario Cart in Tokyo.

ZACH: HEY GUYS, ZACH CIPRIANO HAVING JUST A STELLAR TIME OUT HERE IN

TOKYO. NOW, I DON'T KNOW IF ANY OF YOU HAVE EVER CONSIDERED COMING TO

JAPAN... BUT I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! YOU MIGHT BE THINKING TO YOURSELF,

I DUNNO, IT DOESN'T REALLY SEEM LIKE MY THING. WELL I'M HERE TO TELL YOU

THERE ARE PLENTY OF DIFFERENT ADVENTURES OUT THERE THAT CAN MATCH PRETTY

MUCH ANY EXPERIENCE YOU WANT. LEMME SHOW YA.

(Music Up)

LAUREN SHANNON: Tokyo is one of the most eclectic, amazing, fast-paced

cities in the world. And it also has a very spiritual side. And I think

that Tokyo has something for everyone. So, of course Japan has a long

history and is quite famous for Geisha and Samurai, and ancient Japan.

And then it is also quite famous for high-tech, and robots, and the s

ort of craziness of any big city.

ZACH: THE WORD CITY ALMOST DOES IT DO TOKYO JUSTICE, WHAT WITH ITS 23

SPECIAL WARDS SPANNING 845 SQUARE MILES HOLDING A POPULATION OF 37.8

MILLION PEOPLE IN THE GREATER TOKYO AREA... THERE CAN BE A LOT TO SEE

AND DO. WHICH IS WHY RACHAEL AND I NEEDED A WAY TO COVER A LOT OF

GROUND AND FAST. ENTER- THE MARICAR.

(Music Up)

ZACH: TAKING ON THE PERSONAS OF OUR FAVORITE SUPER HEROES, VIDEO GAME

CHARACTERS, AND CARTOONS; ALL OF US WERE READY TO HIT THE PAVEMENT.

ALTHOUGH WE LEFT FROM THE AKIHABARA SHOP, MARICAR HAS OTHER LOCATIONS

IN SHINAGAWA, SHIBUYA, AND SHINKIBA TO NAME A FEW. OUR GO-KARTS ROAMED

THROUGH THE HEAVY TRAFFIC OF DOWNTOWN TOKYO, BUT DESPITE THAT WE ALWAYS

FELT SAFE AND COMPLETELY ENAMORED BY THE TOWERING SKYSCRAPERS OF THE

METROPOLITAN AREA. SIGHTS ON OUR TOUR INCLUDED GINZA -- A POPULAR

SHOPPING DISTRICT-- TOKYO TOWER, THE BAY, AND EVEN THE EMPORER'S PALACE.

I PERSONALLY ENJOYED RIDING OVER RAINBOW BRIDGE AND SPEEDING ALONG THE

LOOP LEADING UP TO IT. RACHAEL, WELL, I THINK SHE ENJOYED THE PAPARAZZI

THAT TRIED TO STEALTHILY SNAP PICTURES OF US DURING OUR TOUR.

BUT REMEMBER, THERE ARE TWO HALVES TO THIS CITY. TWO DYNAMIC COMPONENTS

THAT TRULY COMPLETE EACH OTHER. IN ORDER TO FULLY EXPERIENCE TOKYO, ONE

MUST TAKE A MOMENT TO STOP AND SMELL THE CHERRY BLOSSOMS, SO-TO-SPEAK.

AND THERE'S NO BETTER PLACE TO DO THAT THAN AT ASAKUSA.

LAUREN SHANNON: So we're in the Asakusa area of Tokyo, it's in Tito Kun.

And this is a very Shitimachi, or downtown neighborhood. So back in the

day this was a very working-class neighborhood. It's also very famous for

the temple behind me. So that's Senso-Ji temple. The number one visited

spot in Tokyo, and it has been for hundreds of years.

So one of the things that's special about Senso-Ji and the Asakusa area

is that on the same ground there's both a Buddhist and Shinto, temple

then shrine. Shinto is an indigenous religion in Japan that's based on

ancestry and nature. And then the buddhist temple was brought over from

China into Japan. More than 1000 years ago.

ZACH: FOR CENTURIES, PILGRIMS MADE THE TREK TO SENSO-JI FOR VARIOUS

RELIGIOUS, SPIRITUAL, OR FESTIVE REASONS. IT'S HARD NOT TO WONDER WHAT

THIS PLACE LOOKED LIKE SO LONG AGO, WITHOUT THE THRONGS OF TOURISTS,

LIKE MYSELF, PERUSING THESE SACRED GROUNDS. WELL, ACCORDING TO OUR GUIDE,

IT SOUNDS LIKE IT ACTUALLY WASN'T MUCH DIFFERENT.

LAUREN SHANNON: The lead up to the temple, at pretty much any temple,

there will be a main street leading up to the temple. And in the case

of Asakusa and Senso-ji temple that street is called Nakamise.

Naka means "Center" and mise means like "shop." And this is not something

new, this is not south of the border or a tourist trap, this has actually

been here for as long as the temple has been here. So when pilgrims came

to visit the temple they would come from very far away. And they could

walk up through the center street and get something to eat, something to

drink, some souvenir to remember their trip to the temple by. So that

tradition continues today.

ZACH: Much like how a Shinto Shrine and a Buddhist temple can exist on

the same plot of land, the "ying" and "yang" of Tokyo balance each other;

equal parts andreneline rush, tech junkie overload, spiritual

enlightenment, and calming introspection... the spirit of this city is

real, and it was worth traveling across the globe just to feel it.

LAUREN SHANNON: I think people are afraid to come to Japan. There are a

lot of myths about Japan out there in the world, that it's hard to get

around, that's it's too expensive, that there's a language barrier...

but I think once you arrive here you'll realize peole really want to help

you have a good time. Don't let the myths that you've heard scare you away.

There really is something for everyone and it really is an approachable

place once you get here.

ZACH: WELL I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE A HUGE THANKS TO MARICAR AND ARIGATO

JAPAN FOOD TOURS FOR TWO TRULY UNIQUE EXPERIENCES. WELL I'M ZACH CIPRIANO,

WE ARE GOING TO TAKE A QUICK COMMERCIAL BREAK! BUT WHEN WE COME BACK WE'RE

GOING TO HAVE YOUR PRODUCT REVIEW. DON'T GO ANYWHERE, I MEAN IT.

(Music Up)

JORDAN: WELCOME BACK TO AYL AND FOR THIS WEEK'S PRODUCT REVIEW WE'RE GOING

TO DO SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT. WINTER IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER AND I

WANT TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE PREVIEW. I'M HERE WITH RUSS AND DAVID STEADMAN.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS HAVE FOR ME?

RUSS: HEY JORDAN! WELL WE GOT A LITTLE SNOW IN THE MOUNTAINS THIS LAST

WEEKEND AND SO IT'S TIME TO UNLEASH THE BEAST.

(Music Up)

RUSS: THIS IS A SNOW CHECK SO HE PICKED ALL THESE COLORS. THE TRAILING ARMS,

THE TRACK, THE TUNNEL. THIS IS A GOOD ONE.

DAVID: THIS IS THE AXIS PRO, 163, THREE INCH TRACK, YOU HAVE THE OPTION OF

ORDERING IT WITH OR WITHOUT ELECTRIC START. THESE ARE THE FUNNEST MACHINES

OUT THERE. THEY CUT, THEY CARVE. IF YOU BUY THE 3.0 TRACK YOU GET THE CHAIN

CASE, IF YOU BUY THE 2.5 IT HAS THE BELT DRIVE.

RUSS: DAVID IS THE MOST HARDCORE SNOWMOBILER HERE, BUT ASK HIM WHAT HE

RODE MOST LAST YEAR.

JORDAN: WHAT DID YOU RIDE?

RUSS: AND HE RODE THROUGH THE 15TH OF JUNE.

DAVID: I DIDN'T RIDE A SNOWMOBILE LAST YEAR AFTER THE 15TH OF FEBRUARY.

JORDAN: WHAT HAPPENED?

DAVID: I RODE ON THE 15TH OF JUNE ON A SNOW-BIKE NOT A SNOWMOBILE.

A TIMBERSLED. WHAT A RUSH. WE PUT THEM TOGETHER AND I WAS SKEPTICAL.

I DIDN'T THINK I WOULD EVER CURE MY SNOWMOBILE ADDICTION WITH A SNOWBIKE,

BUT THE SNOWMOBILE NEVER CAME OUT OF THE TRAILER AND WE RODE ON

THE 15TH OF JUNE.

JORDAN: RUSS, WHAT ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT THE SNOW?

RUSS: YOU GUYS ALREADY TALKED ABOUT THE FUN STUFF. I LOVE THE TIMBERSLED

TOO AND I ACTUALLY RODE MORE THAN HE DID, BUT NOW HE HAS MORE TIME WITH

IT. MY FAMILY AND I HAVE SNOWMOBILES AND RIDE TO CABINS. WE SPEND A LOT

OF FAMILY TIME IN THE SNOW, BUT WE ALSO HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT WITH THE

SNOW COMES A LOT OF WORK. WE HAVE SNOW BLOWERS, WE HAVE SNOWPLOWS,

WE HAVE THINGS TO HELP YOU HAVE MORE FUN. TRACKS ON THE SIDE-BY-SIDES,

A LOT OF CABIN OWNERS ARE GETTING TRACKS ON THESE AND THERE'S A LOT OF

FUN TO HAVE ON THE SNOW.

JORDAN: TGHANKS RUSS AND DAVE! SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF FUN GETTING READY

FOR THE SNOW SEASON.

SO AM I GOING OUT WITH YOU ON A SNOWBIKE OR YOU ON A SLED?

RUSS: WE'LL ROCK, PAPPER, SCISSOR FOR IT.

JORDAN: OH!

LOOKS LIKE I'M GOING WITH BOTH OF YOU! WE NEED TO TAKE A COMMERCIAL

BREAK BUT WE'LL BE BACK WITH MORE AYL IN JUST A MINUTE.

(Music Up)

Jill: Well welcome back to At Your Leisure, we are at the end of our

journey for today on the Hole in the Rock Trail, but tomorrow we hope

to get a little close to Lake Powel. It was just a long day we had

Jill: a great ride (Same Time)

Darren: Lots of fun (Same Time)

Jill: but it's just a little long, we're a long ways away from anything

Darren: and when you're like that you've gotta, we stopped a little

early to camp out for the night

Jill: a few trees to block the wind

Darren: and you know you've got to be prepared for anything that the

wilderness has to throw at you. So, let's take a look to see what it

takes to prepare you for something like this.

Andrew: I actually like camping because its better than staying in your

house like (in lazy fat kid voice) "hey mom, can I get on my lap top,

hey mom can I get on my Ipad?" It's like there's more to the world than

just a house, but there's way more than meets the eye.

Jared: When I was a kid growing up, my dad was probably the most

unprepared person on the face of the planet, and that's honestly what

made me not like it until I was in my mid-twenties. Then, I could finally

do it myself, so I could buy my own stuff, I could make sure that I had

the necessities that I need, and as long as it's comfortable it's awesome.

But you need to have those little things, make sure you have tools, and

spare tires, and belts and food, the food you like and shelter.

Just make sure you have enough storage on your machine to fit it all.

Sleeping bags, tents, like I have my Ipod, we listen to music, you

know, just the little things, because ya if you don't have them

it's miserable.

Darren: How does is look? Does it look good? Does it look good?

A little more?

Jared: I put together my essential package and I have dry boxes,

and I have a system where I have just stuff that stays in these dry

boxes all year. They never leave them so that when I come on a trip

like this I throw in the dry box and we're good to go. I've built racks

and I have things on my ATV that necessitate what I need to take, and I

guess if it got to the point where I couldn't build, or make, or buy the

things that it would take to make that happen I wouldn't go.

But hopeful it makes them kind of enjoy this, respect it, even if it's

something that they don't move forward with throughout the rest of

their life, they can at least understand why people do it.

Plus we just get to spend time with each other and tease each other

and laugh.

Jason: I like about camping, to just enjoy nature, spend quality time

with your family.

Jared: I just hope they have good memories, like I said; my dad did

this when I was a kid and we had fun but it was miserable. But, it

was still fun, it was just fun to get away from home, get away from

the daily grind and just enjoy life and that's what I hope they get from this.

Jill: So as you can see, if you come prepared you can create great

memories with your family and friends.

Darren: And we've had a great time today, but I'm exhausted.

Jill: It has been a long day.

Darren: So let's go check out the tent.

Jill: Sounds like a good idea. We've got a long day coming up tomorrow;

hopefully we'll see some more amazing views.

Darren: and while we go check out our tent, you check out the trail

head brought to you be Rocky Mountain ATV MC.com

ROBERT MITCHELL: The first thing people do when they see these dunes is

realize how nice these dunes are and they want to slide down these dunes.

MALIA STRINGHAM: THE OCEANA SAND DUNES JUST SOUTH OF PISMO BEACH

CALIFORNIA STRETCH FOR MILES ALONG THE RIPPLING WAVES OF THE PACIFIC.

THE DECEPTIVELY SOFT SAND IS THE PERFECT PLAYGROUND FOR OFF-ROADERS,

BUT ALSO OFFERS SURPRISING THRILLS YOU WOULD EXPECT TO FIND ONLY IN

THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS IN FRIGID TEMPERATURES. THIS IS DUNE BOARDING,

A SPORT THAT HAS ALLOWED MEN LIKE LINO RICO TO TURN THEIR DREAMS OF

SAND SURFING INTO A REALITY.

LINO RICO: I'd always try to slide down these hills. We'd use cardboard

boxes. When snowboarding came out I took the same design similar to

that and then made my own board.

TIAHNA BURBANK: Oh, it was so awesome. I mean it was a little terrifying

at first, but once yo got the hang of it it was awesome. The wind was

blowing in your face and once you picked up a lot of speed it was a

lot of fun. Falling didn't hurt too bad so that was a plus.

ROBERT MITCHELL: When you hit one of these dunes that we slide down

it's the slip-face, it's really soft and you know, you can feel the

board, the edge go right through that dune and you get some speed and

it feels pretty good. Like a lot of sports there are some techniques

you need to understand when you go Dune Boarding so when you start dune

boarding the first thing you need to learn is a little control and that

will help you learn new things. You'll see people doing things and

you'll think, 'whoa, I don't know if I could ever do that,' but the

secret is control and technique and you're going to learn that

with dune boarding.

MATTHEW DAVIS: You know, I'm from Utah and I've never been

snowmboarding myself, so it was a challenge, biffed it a lot of times,

but it was great. I couldn't believe you could go down sand dunes on a board.

MALIA STRINGHAM: SAND BOARDING ACTUALLY BEGAN IN ANCIENT EGYPT, AND

WAS REVIVED AGAIN IN THE 1940'S. IT DIDN'T REALLY PICK UP STEAM

THOUGH UNTIL THE EARLY 1990'S WHEN IT QUICKLY CAUGHT ON THROUGHOUT

THE WORLD, PARTICULARLY IN DESERT SPOTS WHERE OTHER FORMS OF RECRTEATION

WERE LIMITED. EVENTS AND COMPETITIONS SOON FOLLOWED FROM THE DUNES OF

EGYPT TO AUSTRALIA, BUT THE SPORT NEVER GAINED THE SAME POPULARITY AS

SNOWBOARDING SINCE YOU CAN'T BUILD LIFTS IN THE SAND, AND SO YOU'RE

FORCED TO HIKE OR RIDE TO THE TOP OF THE DUNE AFTER EACH RUN.

MALIA STRINGHAM: EVEN SO, MEN LIKE LINO RICO ARE WORKING HARD TO

INTRODUCE MORE PEOPLE TO THE SPORT, TRAINING THEM TO RIDE A DUNE IN

SUMMER LIKE THEY WOULD A SKI SLOPE IN WINTER.

TIAHNA BURBANK: He was amazing! He was able to watch you and tell

you what you were doing wrong and telling you what you were doing

right to be able to correct yourself, and do better on the next run.

MIKAELA DAVIS: If you fell down he told you a different trick to try

and you just got back up and tried that one.

LINO RICO: To teach someone to actually dune board is a thrill to me

because for me, I had to learn by doing, but once I learned how to

actually do it, teaching someone else the sport I love it's actually

a thrill for me, so I enjoy everyone else enjoying the sport that I

have a passion for.

AUBRIE DAVIS: I thought it was going to be hard because of the sand,

and it was hard walking up there, but going down you just have to have

balance, and I don't have balance, but it was easy.

MALIA STRINGHAM: DUNE BOARDING CLASSES ARE OF COURSE AVAILABLE AT THE

OCEANA DUNES, BUT WHEREVER MASSIVE SAND MOUNTAINS RISE YOU CAN FIND

BOARDERS WILLING TO PASS ON THEIR CRAFT. AND WHILE IT MAY SEEM EXTREME

TO STRAP ON A WAXED BOARD AND HIT A SAND DUNE, IT'S NEW EXPERIENCES

LIKE THESE THAT DEFINE OUR LIVES; FRAMING OUR FAMILIAL INTERACTIONS

WITH LAUGHTER, THRILLS, AND YES, EVEN A FEW FALLS.

MATTHEW DAVIS: You know, I think trying new things like that builds

bonds and as a father you want those bonds with your kids, good fun

experiences like that where you can share the outdoors and be

alongside them.

TIAHNA BURBANK: It's a great way to learn that you like new things.

You're able to learn new things about yourself, like that you're

really good at this, or hey, that you're really bad at this but it's fun.

I learned how to improve myself today.

MALIA STRINGHAM: LEAVE THE PARKA AT HOME AND HIT THE DUNES INSTEAD.

FOR AT YOUR LEISURE I'M MALIA STRINGHAM

(Music Up)

DARREN: WELCOME BACK TO AYL. WE'RE ON THE HOLE INT THE ROCK TRAIL

JUST HAVING A GREAT TIME.

JILL: THERE'S NOTHING LIKE WAKING UP IN THE MORNING TO A VIEW LIKE THIS.

IT'S AMAZING.

DARREN: THAT'S PART OF THE FUN OF COMING OUT AND EXPLORING WITH YOUR

FAMILY AND FRIENDS, BUT COME PREPARED. I THINK WE MADE IT NO MORE THAN

TEN MILES BEFORE WE BLEW A BELT. DON'T BRING ANDREW WITH YOU, OR IF

YOU DO BRING AN EXTRA BELT.

JILL: OR TWO.

DARREN: THAT'S RIGHT. A SPARE TIRE, GAS FOOD, EVERYTHING. WE OF COURSE

CAMPED OUT HERE BECAUSE IT'S A LONG WAY. IT MAY ONLY BE 40 MILES AND

THAT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE MUCH BUT IT'S AN ALL DAY TRIP. JEEPS CAN MAKE

IT OUT HERE, SIDE-BY-SIDES, WE EVEN HAD A 570 RZR OUT HERE SO MOST

MACHINES CAN MAKE IT. THERE ARE SOME TECHNICAL PARTS BUT YOU SHOULD

BE ABLE TO MAKE IT.

JILL: YOU JUST HAVE TO TAKE IT EASY AND PAY ATTENTION AND YOU SHOULD

BE FINE.

DARREN: THIS PLACE IS FAIRLY EASY TO FIND. YOU JUST TAKE HIGHWAY 191

FROM GREEN RIVER TO HANKSVILLE, THEN HIGHWAY 95 TOWARD BLANDING AND

BLUFF AND THEN TURN ON 297, RIGHT?

JILL: 276. DON'T LISTEN TO HIM, IT'S 276.

DARREN: 276 AND IT'S ABOUT 26 MILES FROM THERE, OR ABOUT HALFWAY TO

HALLS CROSSING. YOU CAN'T MISS THE SIGNS.

JILL: WELL THEY ARE SMALL SIGNS SO MAKE SURE YOU PAY ATTENTION AND IT

IS ABOUT 26 MILES UNTIL THE TRAILHEAD AND IT'S ON THE LEFT-HAND SIDE

AND IT SAYS HOLE IN THE ROCK TRAIL AND THERE'S A BIG PARKING LOT THERE.

WELL PARKING LOT MAY BE A STRETCH. MORE A DIRT PATCH.

DARREN: A WIDE SPOT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.

JILL: YES. WELL WHILE WE HEAD BACK LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT OUR STICKER

WINNER WITH STEVE.

STEVE: THANKS JILL. I HAVE OUR WINNER RIGHT HERE WITH THIS SIDE-BY-SIDE.

THEY HAVE THEIR AYL STICKER RIGHT THERE. LICENSE NUMBER B26GF.

CALL US AT 801-947-8888 BECAUSE YOU JUST WON A CAMP CHEF STOVE.

NOW LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT NEXT WEEK'S SHOW.

ZACH: NEXT WEEK WE'RE CELEBRATING VETERANS DAY AT ONE MUSEUM WHERE

THERE'S MORE TO SEE AND DO THAN JUST APPRECIATE THE PAST.

HOW DOES THIS LOCATION BECOME A SACRED PLACE FOR OUR MILITARY VETERANS?

JOIN CHAD AND ME AS WE FIND OUT. FROM THERE STEVEN HEUMANN WILL EMBRACE

A MORE RURAL LIFESTYLE, AND REECE STEIN BASKS IN THE ADVENTURE OF PALM

SPRINGS. SEE YOU ON OUR NEXT EPISODE.

JILL: NEXT WEEK'S SHOW LOOKS GREAT.

DARREN: BUT WE'VE HAD AN AMAZING TIME ON HOLE IN THE ROCK TRAIL AND

IT'S BEEN A GREAT COUPLE DAYS.

JILL: IT HAS. REMEMBER TO GET OUT THERE AND CREATE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE

AT YOUR LEISURE!

Trump :Justice Dept. and F.B.I. Must 'Do What Is Right' and Investigate Democrats - Duration: 3:58.

You are watching top daily breaking news updates.

WASHINGTON — Frustrated with the Justice Department's reluctance to investigate his

political opponents, President Trump on Friday said he would like the agency to run itself,

but he and "a lot of people" are disappointed in the top federal law enforcement agency.

"I'm really not involved with the Justice Department, I'd like to let it run itself,"

Mr. Trump told reporters as he left the White House for an 11-day trip to Asia.

"But honestly, they should be looking at the Democrats."

Mr. Trump on Thursday acknowledged that presidents are not supposed to interfere with Justice

Department investigations, but he weighed in anyway with a series of Twitter posts early

Friday morning and said the department should investigate the Democrats' activity during

the 2016 campaign.

The American public, he said, "deserves it."

"At some point the Justice Department, and the F.B.I., must do what is right and proper,"

Mr. Trump said in a series of early morning Twitter posts that echoed some of the president's

comments late Thursday.

Mr. Trump's demands for new investigations into Democratic campaign activity come the

same week as the special counsel's first charges in the investigation into Russia's

interference in the 2016 election.

One of Mr. Trump's foreign policy advisers during the campaign pleaded guilty to lying

to the F.B.I.

It is unusual for a sitting president to badger his Justice Department to investigate a political

opponent, but Mr. Trump has consistently tried to deflect attention away from the Russia

investigation by suggesting Democrats should also be the subjects of federal inquiries.

"This is real collusion and dishonesty," Mr. Trump said in a Twitter post late Thursday.

A recent first-person book excerpt in Politico by Donna Brazile, the former interim chairwoman

of the Democratic National Committee, offered new ammunition for Mr. Trump.

Ms. Brazile wrote a stinging account of the Hillary Clinton campaign's controlling grip

of the party during the election.

Mr. Trump has previously called for the Justice Department to investigate his former opponent,

Mrs. Clinton, and her presidential campaign.

This week, he repeated those requests and called for the death penalty for the suspect

in the recent terrorist attack in New York, even as he acknowledged on Thursday that presidents

are not supposed to insert themselves into federal investigations.

"But you know the saddest thing, is that because I'm the president of the United

States I am not supposed to be involved with the Justice Department," Mr. Trump said

in a radio interview on the Larry O'Connor Show.

"I am not supposed to be involved with the F.B.I.

I'm not supposed to be doing the kind of things that I would love to be doing.

And I'm very frustrated by it."

Mr. Trump added, "I'll be honest, I'm very unhappy with it, that the Justice Department

isn't going — now maybe they are, but you know as president, and I think you understand

this, as a president you are not supposed to be involved in that process but hopefully

they are doing something and at some point maybe we are all going to have it out."

The president's comments about the death penalty could pose problems for prosecutors

and help defense lawyers for Sayfullo Saipov, the immigrant from Uzbekistan accused of carrying

out the attack in New York that killed eight people and injured others.

Defense attorneys could argue that Mr. Saipov could not get a fair trial when the president

of the United States publicly calls for the most extreme punishment before a judge has

heard any evidence.

Representative Jim Himes, a Democrat from Connecticut, warned the president in a Twitter

post on Friday morning that interfering with investigations is "dangerous."

That is all from the news room.

These CAMPING HACKS Will Help You SURVIVE in the WILD! - Duration: 2:57.

Hey guys welcome to Scoutr my name is Michael Saye I'm the host of this show and today

I wanted to take two minutes and talk about five different camping hacks that I use on monthly campouts

Yeah, so let's get into it

Sometimes when you're camping it gets cold and that can lead to some uncomfortable sleeping

Situations to fix this heat up water over a fire

Pour that water into a water bottle and then put the water bottle in your sleeping bag near your feet that way your feet don't

Get cold when you're sleeping

When you're out hiking all day your chances of getting ticks increases

if you want the tick's to go away, then a fill spray bottle with one part tea tree oil and two parts water and

Spray that on your on your shoes on your legs freaking everywhere

If you want to make croissants

But you don't want to clean a Dutch oven to cook those in then

A better alternative is you can cook them over a fire on a stick

Simply wrap the croissant in a way that the stick can hold it and hold

over the fire and it'll slowly cook your croissant until it's all nice and

glorified

So you need to bring toothpaste on your camp out or else you'll get bad teeth

But you don't want to bring the whole container with you because it's just inconvenient an easy way to make a single-use packet is

to get some straws and

Cut them in a size that you can fill with toothpaste

And then fuse the ends together with a lighter

And then you have a single-use package that you can cut open with a pocket knife or scissors. That's used once

Have any extra pill bottles lying around that you aren't using

Collect all your pill bottles and build emergency first aid kits out of them

You can fill them with band-aids epi pens small epi pens

and

Super glue anything you can think of that could help you in a situation where you might need

First aid equipment that you can like reach out of your pocket pull out and use

Easily I?

Have one bonus tip and it's not really a hack

But I thought it was kind of cool after you know searching for some extra ones to do and it was roasting

starburst over the fire now

I haven't actually tried this yet myself, but I guarantee you that I will my next campout

But hi you guys should try them too and leave in the comments below what you think of the roasted starburst?

It's lovely watching guys. Please share this video and subscribe to Scouter for more top 5 videos and like it

Why should you be hearing more about the Hillsborough Law? - Duration: 2:27.

The Hillsborough law, why is it important? Why should it matter to you? Why should

you be hearing more about it in the media right now? It all comes from 27

years of fighting for justice the friends and families of people who died

in some tragic tragic situations at Hillsborough 27 years ago. They've been

fighting to get the truth proven and justice for their loved ones. How

they had to come about that has been a struggle they've had to fight to get

funding for legal aid, they've had to fight against the media to prove that

lies were told after the events had happened and on top of that they've had

to deal with everything else that comes with it.

The media attention, the Community Action and the grief of sadly losing their own

family or friends. So what they've done is out of this 27 years and finally

getting an inquest they've put forward 25 points to the government to reform

the law. Now those 25 points, they involve different things. Bringing more

accountability to the police and other emergency services, holding the media to

account for what they've said and actually what they're able to do in

future. Why is this important to you? Well because it could be any one of us

that's caught up in a tragedy, for example just recently we had the sad

events that happened a Grenfell tower and the friends and family of those

people who sadly died in that tower are still affected just like Hillsborough but

there's still people who were affected they may have had smears about them in

the press, there may have been incorrect information received from the

emergency services or the local authorities and we need to make sure

that people like the local authorities, the police and the media are held to

account for what they say help to account for what they do but are also

funded in the courts just as much and equally to the people who have been

affected by these tragedies and that's where we need to see a media that is

accountable for what they've done and this is part of the reason why you don't

see the media talking more about these 25 points that are being brought forward

through the Hillsborough law.

The media fund need a thousand donors by the end of the month

check out the website ThemediaFund.org and see how you can become a member and

a part of our movement

Cosmic Rays Reveal Mysterious HOT VOID In Egypt's Great Pyramid # Breaking news - Duration: 4:24.

High above Egypt and everywhere else cosmic rays bombard the atmosphere the Rays consist mostly of hydrogen

But they finish their interstellar journey with a bang splitting into a shower of smaller elementary particles when they hit the sky

negatively charged particles called muons

Wink into existence and out again within millionths of a second shooting downward at nearly the speed of light

Each minute muons rock it through your skull by the hundreds

Muons are so small that they're harmless

They're also tough to detect but they're not

Undetectable to physicists who can use the particles trajectory to peer through otherwise impenetrable?

substances the way an x-ray reveals a fractured bone

now by monitoring the cosmic rain on Egypt's Great Pyramid an

international research team has detected a large void hidden within four thousand five hundred year old stone structure

the four hundred fifty five foot tall great pyramid or

Khufu's pyramid is the last of the seven wonders of the ancient world still standing the newly discovered void is nearly

100 feet long the cavity is above and similar in size to the Grand Gallery a

Passage through the pyramids belly that leads to the King's Chamber

They really hit paydirt said Roy Schwitters an expert in

Experimental high-energy physics at the University of Texas at Austin who is not involved with this project

It's a very convincing story. They have

the mission to probe the Pyramids of Giza named scan pyramids began in

2015 it is a joint program between Cairo

University and the French nonprofit hip Institute with guidance from the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities

In the new discovery which the journal Nature published Thursday

scientists from those institutions teamed up with Japanese

physicists and brought three types of MU on detectors to examine the Great Pyramid

Stone absorbs muons energy in ways that pockets of air

When searching for a void in one location what you look for is a mu Onix s in that direction

said arturo mincha carrucha a physicist at the National Autonomous University of Mexico

Mincha carrucha, not a member of this project has used cosmic radiation to probe an ancient

Mesoamerican pyramid mu on tracking is what helps locate and image the voids shape

one type of mu on detector called a nuclear emulsion film

Catches muons as lines of little black globules the film is developed by the MU on so to speak

schwinn Earth said muons create

cross-sections the way light creates the photos on your iPhone

But muons are even better than light

He said because the particles tell you where they come from and they tell you which direction they came from to

This structure is not accessible table

This void was hidden

I think during the construction of the pyramid mu on-base technology is still rare in

archaeology it is expensive and time-consuming an array of detectors can run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars a

significant departure from typical archaeology budgets the exposure time for the nuclear

Emulsion film used around the Great Pyramid was measured in months

applying particle physics to archeology requires a certain level of technical sophistication

Indiana Jones wouldn't be doing MU on tomography

schwitters said

Yet muons, may play an increasing role in future discoveries

schwitters is in the process of creating detectors that run on solar energy and are rugged enough to survive the

jungles of Belize where he plans to examine Mayan pyramids

They're coming from the most energetic cosmic events in the universe

They're a piece of nature Schwitters said you're using elementary particles to do something you can't do any other way
