how's it going everyone so the tomatoes I'm growing in the root pouch containers
behind me are doing quite well but they do need regular feeding as they are in
containers and because they are in containers they can't their roots just
can't and grow throughout the soil and just find what they need instead you
have to give it to them so in this video I'm just going to be showing you a few
different ways I like to feed my container growing tomatoes just to make
sure that they're healthy and produce lots of fruit okay so the first thing
that I'm going to be adding is just a thin layer of compost now I like to add
a thin layer which is a probably about one to two centimeters or about half an
inch or so of homemade compost about every month I'm just to the tomatoes
this provides a wide range of nutrients is a good soil conditioner and will help
feed the compost worms that are living in the soil blend as well so I'll just
take up the mulch just add this straight on top now the next thing I'm going to
be adding to the soil the tomatoes is some sulfate of potash now this is for
potassium and what potassium does is not only helps the cell walls to thicken and
that way it's less resistant to disease and infection the main thing that I
wanted for is for the flowers and fruit it actually helps promote flowers and
fruit and I can tell and I can actually see that a lot of flowers are dropping
off and this is because I don't have enough potassium in the soil blend so
what I'm going to be doing is adding three grams which is for this brand is
three of these scoops just to the top of the soil as that's the record
recommended right
and then I'll water that in with some liquid feed that I'll be making up so
now I'm going to be making up a liquid fertilizer for the tomatoes and pretty
much just all to do this I'm going to be using a seaweed solution which has a
wide range of elements and other nutrients that the plants love also
helps to improve its immune sort of immune system planning system then I'm
also going to be adding some trace elements
this contains sort of the minor elements or minor nutrients that the plants need
such as iron zinc copper molybdenum sulfur and you know just a few of the
smaller things that is essential to the plant's growth so all I am going to do
to do this is I have a watering can here and I'm just going to be putting in the
recommended rate and three liters I've got three liters of water and I'm just
gonna be putting in so one capful of the seaweed solution and then to heat spoons
of the enclosed spoon of the trace elements and give that a good swell
around mix around just to dissolve the trace elements all in and now that's all
dissolved I'm just going to be watering this straight in as I water the tomato
with the liquid fertilizer I've just made it's also helping to wash down the
nutrients from the compost and also the sulphate of potash the hassium
fertilizer that are added that are washes straight down into the plant
roots where they can take it up and use it so there you go folks that is a bit
of a look at how I like to fertilize my tomatoes that are growing in containers
so I know that there are a lot of other things like fertilizers and amendments
that you can add to your containers to fertilize your tomatoes such as
different manures pelletized chicken manures and a whole lot of other liquid
fertilizers and things like that I just like to use each because I have them on
hand I don't have to go out and buy these and also I have used all those
products for years and I really like how they work and I know that they're
