Gum Disease: What You Need To Know

Symptoms of Gum Disease.

How do you know if you have gum disease? Here are some of the symptoms you should look for.

Often you will notice inflammation of the gums and mouth – soreness, bleeding, and/or redness.

Another common symptom is bed breath (a.k.a.

Halitosis), and / or a bad taste in your mouth.

Other signs of gum disease include shaky or loose teeth, receding gums, and spaces between the teeth and gums.

Cause Of Gum Disease.

What causes gum disease? Quite simply, gum disease is caused by bacteria growing in your mouth.

These bacteria normally begin growing on particles of food left in your mouth.

The infection then continues to grow, causing inflammation and breakdown of the gums and mouth.

Prevention Of Gum Disease.

Gum disease can be prevented by discouraging the growth of bacteria in the mouth.

Proper dental hygiene goes a long way in preventing bacteria growth in the mouth.

Also helpful is a healthy diet low in refined sugars and other foods that make perfect bacteria fodder.

Treatment of Gum Disease.

If you already have Gum Disease, there are several ways to treat it.

The first and seemingly most common is a professional cleaning.

A periodontist will clean your mouth to remove the plaque, etc that harbors the bacteria causing the disease.

Drugs may also be used to treat gum disease.

Recently, several natural treatments have been developed for gum disease as well.

What Were Adam and Eve Thinking? - Duration: 3:38.

Yesterday we saw that God

created Adam and Eve perfectly.

They had a perfect relationship with God,

perfect relationship with each other,

and they had opportunities for meaningful service.

So, what happened?

Well, in Genesis 3

we're told that the devil came

and tempted Adam and Eve in the garden.

He started off kind of subtly and

he said to Eve,

"Did God really say

you must not eat from any

fruit of any of the trees in the garden?"

And Eve said,

"God did say that we could eat

fruit from any tree in the garden

except for the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

For if we eat of that,

we will surely die."

And then the devil stepped up his attack.

He said, "You will surely not die."

Now wait a minute.

So God said you will surely die

and the devil said you will surely die not.

Can both of those statements be true?

No.

Do you see what Satan was trying to do?

Satan was trying to make

friends with Adam and Eve

and in so doing,

make Adam and Eve God's enemies.

And they listened,

and they ate,

and the effects of sin were instantaneous.

They heard God walking in the garden

and the Bible says that they hid.

Now, the word used for "hide" there

is an intensive word.

Have you ever played hide-and-seek

with a three-year-old

and watched them through your fingers as you counted?

I know that's cheating but it's so cute.

What do they do?

They bounce from one place,

to the next, to the next, to the next

as though a lamp, or a coffee table

is really going to be able to hide them.

That's the word used to describe

what Adam and Eve were doing in the garden.

They were hiding from God in this place,

and then that place, and then that place.

And then God confronted them.

Have you eaten from the tree

I told you not to eat from?

Immediately, Adam points his finger at his wife.

He even says, "The woman you put here with me,

she gave me some fruit and I ate."

The first guy ever to know what it's like

to be in the doghouse with his wife.

And God lays out the effects of sin.

He says

there's going to be pain in childbirth,

there's going to be strife in marriage,

difficulty in work,

and ultimately

there's going to be death.

You remember the three keys to a meaningful life?

Good relationship with God?

They no longer had it.

They hid from him.

A good relationship with others?

They were pointing blame fingers at each other.

Opportunities for meaningful service?

Well, now there was going to be difficulty

and strife in that service.

But then God does something incredible.

He makes the first promise of a Savior.

He says,

"And I will put enmity,

hatred,

hostility,

between you and the woman

and between your offspring and hers.

He will crush your head

and you will strike his heel."

I always think it's kind of interesting

that the first promise of a Savior

wasn't spoken to Adam and Eve.

It was spoken to Satan.

God is the original trash talker.

But notice what he was so powerfully doing.

Satan

had gotten the wall of hatred

to get moved

in between Adam and Eve and God.

What is God promising to do?

I'm going to put the wall back where it belongs,

between you and Satan.

as well as God's solution for us.

Now, gift certificates.

Is it a good way to drum up business?

I got this question the other day, and the answer is yes.

Because it can cover in the gaps between slow areas of your business.

Now, January and February are traditionally slow months of the business, because people

just came off the Christmas holiday.

They've been traveling.

They're out of money, because they spent all their money on Christmas.

They're cooped up in the house.

They're sick.

All kinds of things happen, and they cancel the house cleaner.

Okay.

So while they're canceling the house cleaner, you still have bills to pay.

You still need money coming in.

This is an excellent time to go to your regular customers and sell them gift certificates.

It's also a great way for somebody who's never hired you before to get a gift certificate

for somebody that they know, and maybe try out your service.

Okay, so here's how it works.

You make up a little flyer for gift certificates.

You remind people under what circumstances a gift certificate is used.

"Hey, do you know anybody from your business that is retiring this year?

What a lovely gift to give someone who has everything, a house cleaning gift certificate."

Another thing that you could mention is, and we do this every year near Mother's Day.

"Mother's Day?

What are you going to get your mom for Mother's Day?

Lots of people don't know, because their moms have everything they need or want, and they

just buy them the same gift every year.

But what if you were to get her something new and exciting, like a clean house?"

It's a fun gift.

It's consumable.

She can use it whenever she wants, and so it's an awesome gift.

They can come in different increments.

So you can do $25, $50, $75, $100, $200, whatever you want to do.

What you might do is break it up, so that you can say, "Two hours is $75.

This is what it involves."

And you might throw in some tasks that that would include, so that people can vision,

"Oh, yes.

My mother needs this service.

This is how she would use this."

All right.

Everybody has birthdays.

Okay?

There are a lot of guys that have no idea what to get a woman for her birthday.

A great gift is that somebody comes in and cleans her house once in a while.

If they don't have a regular house cleaner, this is an awesome gift for a guy to get for

his wife for her birthday.

Okay, now there are anniversaries.

All of your clients have birthdays and anniversaries, and graduations, and holidays at different

times of the year.

So this is a great opportunity to do this throughout the year.

Maybe four times a year, when I leave my worksheet with my customer, I will leave a note, and

the note will be advertising something.

It might be a special that we're having.

It might be a gift certificate or something like that, where as a regular customer, they

get a savings because they are giving this to someone else.

What happens is, there are people that will say, "Well, my parents just live down the

street from me.

I don't want to clean their house, but I would love for you to clean their house."

And their parents aren't paying for it, but the homeowner that's already hired you will

buy a gift certificate, and then gift it to their parents.

The gift certificates that we've used in our business, we just print them up.

We got to the office store, and we have a template that we use, and we buy fancy paper,

and then we print up the name individually.

Like, "Hey, Karen.

Your son, Todd, bought this for you for your birthday.

Happy Birthday!

Your son loves you!

You're so lucky to have a son like Todd.

The value is ... " And then you name the value.

"And this is what it includes.

It's redeemable at any time, and it's good for three years from the date of receipt."

Or whatever.

That's just an example.

Then what happens is, she can keep it, and we've had circumstances where people forget

they have them, and they never actually redeem them.

But their child, or their husband, or somebody bought it for them, and already paid for it

upfront.

That money coming in upfront is what pays you during the slow months of the year.

Are gift certificates a good way to generate resources during slower months?

The answer is absolutely yes.

Think about ways that you can incorporate gift certificates into your existing business

plan with your existing clients.

Another thing that we've done in the past is, I'll get a little coffee mug from one

of the stores like Marshall's or something, and they have little decorative mugs of the

city that you live in.

I live in Charlotte, North Carolina, so it would be a little decorative mug that would

say "Charlotte" on it.

I would fill that up with chocolates, and I would wrap it in cellophane, and put a fancy

bow on it.

It's a door prize.

Then you go to these different business networking meetings, like the Kiwanis Club, or the Toastmaster's

Club, or different groups that are in your area.

So it might be for your neighborhood, or for a particular development, or a particular business,

so everybody is close to that hub, because you don't want to travel all over the city.

If it's a localized group, this is an awesome way to use gift certificates.

What you do, is you say, "I have this little mug of chocolate, and a gift certificate for

house cleaning, and we're going to be giving away this door prize at the end."

I've appointed myself the door prize giver for so many different events where they don't

give out door prizes.

Okay?

Nobody ever thought to do it.

So you stand there with a little basket, as people walk in, and you give them your house

cleaning card, and you take their business card, and you put their business card inside

the little basket.

Are you with me?

All right.

You have all of their business cards, and they have yours.

Awesome!

Okay, and you explain to them what you're doing.

"Hey, we're giving away a door prize for a little thing of chocolates and a gift certificate

for house cleaning.

I'm Angela Brown, and I have this house cleaning company, and I work this local area, whatever.

Here's my card, in case you know anybody looking.

But we're doing this giveaway."

Then they give you their card, and now you have their contact information.

Okay.

When the meeting is over, and it encourages people to stay to the end of the meeting,

then you stand up, and then you get to introduce yourself to all of the people.

Right?

"Hi, I'm Angela Brown, and I have this house cleaning company, and I would like to give

away this door prize as a gift certificate that you can give away."

And you let them know that, "You can give it away to your parents, for a birthday, for

an anniversary.

It's something you could give to your spouse.

It's something you can just call and use at any time, or you can give it to someone else

that lives within this geographical area."

All right.

What happens is you just got to pitch your business in front of all of these people.

That's the real value right there.

Now, what would you pay to give your commercial in front of a bunch of people who are qualified

to hire you?

A gift certificate, and a little mug of chocolates.

Right?

Something to eat today, and remember you by, and if you are so fancy to have your own logo,

or whatever, on the mug, awesome.

But what happens is you get to give something away, and then all of these people now know

what you do, and they all have your card.

You can choose to follow up with them.

Say, "Hey, I met you at this particular event."

You can do a mailer.

Let's say that you're doing an e-mail marketing, or maybe you're doing a regular mail that

goes out in the mail.

You can send them something, and say, "Hey, I met you at this particular event.

I just wanted to let you know that we're having a special, just in case you knew somebody

that was looking for house cleaning."

There are ways of following up with those people.

You could always contact them, and remind them near Mother's Day or Father's Day, that,

"Hey, I met you at this event, and we were giving out a gift certificate for house cleaning.

I just wanted to remind you we do have gift certificates available, if there's a specific

person in your life that you wanted to give them something nice for the holiday, and you

did not know what to give them.

I just wanted to reintroduce myself, and let you know that we have this going on."

It's a great way to reconnect with the people that you already have met, and the people

that already know you.

Then, of course, one lucky winner will walk away with a free house cleaning.

There are different ways you can use gift certificates, and it's all up to your creativity.

But yes, it's a great way to generate some extra business during slow months.

Insiders say the show is finding trouble finding affluent women who are willing to blow up

"The women were told to find a way to make the show better and to help find a new lady

Bravo wants fun and this season was not fun," says the insider.

went to prison?

We kid.

In its early days, the show really did have a sense of fun and frivolity.

Of course, it's hard to hold onto that when you have cast members serving hard time.

Anyway, the effort to land a new Jersey Housewife has reportedly gone in some bizarre directions.

According to one report, Melissa Gorga attempted to convince Chrissy Teigen to join the cast.

It didn't pan out for the obvious reasons that Teigen is 1.

not from New Jersey, 2.

not a housewife, and 3.

far too famous to ever seriously consider such a move.

But we can't blame Gorga for trying something desperate, as sources say if the show doesn't

land a new lady soon, it won't be returning for another season.

10 Amazing Adjectives to Help You Sound Smarter - Duration: 12:46.

Would you like to sound smarter when you're speaking in English?

Of course you do.

So, that's why today I'm going to tell you

ten different adjectives to help you sound smarter.

That's coming up.

So the adjectives that I'm going to talk to you about

today are a little more academic, and they're

great adjectives because they're very descriptive.

Very precise.

and that is a great way to improve your fluency

because you're better able to express your thoughts, your opinions, your ideas.

And they just so happen to be 10 of my favorite adjectives that I like to use.

Because I want to sound smart.

So I'm going to give you the pronunciation of these adjectives.

I'm going to tell you what they mean, and how they're commonly used.

So let's begin.

The first word is ubiquitous.

And ubiquitous has four syllables.

That first syllable is just like you're saying the letter U.

And the stress is going to be on that second syllable.

Ubiquitous means existing or being everywhere.

It is something that you see everywhere you go.

It could be a shop, a store. And you find it all over the world.

For example, you have companies that you see everywhere like Starbucks, McDonald's.

Wherever you go, whether you like it or not, you see these places.

They are ubiquitous.

It could also be used to talk about...maybe a word,

phrase, or expression that you might commonly hear that is ubiquitous.

You hear it all the time.

You wouldn't really use it to talk about a person that you

see all the time because again there is only one person.

Ubiquitous is talking about something where there is a lot. It is a lot more than just one.

It's everywhere. Its ubiquitous.

The next word is cumbersome.

The word cumbersome has three syllables.

And the stress is on the first syllable.

And something that is cumbersome is something that is

difficult, something that is burdensome, and usually

it's often talking about something that is physical.

That is difficult to move or carry.

Maybe because it has an awkward shape or maybe it's really heavy.

And it is cumbersome to move something from one place to another.

It's not always used to talk about an object.

It can be used to talk about a situation as well.

Something that is difficult, problematic...we could say that it is cumbersome.

It's a cumbersome situation, a cumbersome challenge, a cumbersome life.

The next adjective, and it's one of my favorites because

well, it kind of described me is facetious.

Facetious has three syllables, and the stress is on that second syllable.

It's like you're just saying the letter C.

And that first syllable has that schwa, that /uh/ sound.

Facetious means not to be taken literally or serious.

And I would say it's kind of in between a joke and a lie.

And you're almost kind of teasing somebody when you're being facetious.

You're saying something that is so ridiculous.

It's so outlandish.

That the other person or people...they shouldn't

take you seriously because what you're saying is so ridiculous.

You are being facetious.

Next is arduous.

And arduous has three syllables, and the stresses on the first syllable.

Now you don't hear that D sound that much.

It's not very strong. It almost sounds a little like a J.

And something that is arduous is difficult because

it requires a lot of exertion, a lot of thought, a lot of energy.

And it's often used to describe something that you have to do like a task.

It requires a lot of exertion and it's...

because of that it's just really difficult. It's arduous.

Next is presumptuous.

And presumptuous has four syllables, and the stress is on that second syllable.

And the S almost sounds a little more like a Z.

And if somebody is being presumptuous, then that just

means that they're showing little or no respect for others

by doing something that they shouldn't be doing.

They're being presumptuous thinking that they can do

this or that when they shouldn't do it.

It's presumptuous.

For example, if you go over to a friend's place,

most of us don't just walk inside their home or apartment.

You knock on the door because it's polite. It's respectful.

If you just walk inside like you own the place, then you would be presumptuous.

Next is pensive.

And the pronunciation, very easy, just two syllables and the stress is on that first syllable.

Now if somebody is pensive that just means that they are in deep thought.

They're really thinking about or reflecting on something.

It's almost like a dreamlike state.

You're in such deep thought you've just tuned out the rest of the world.

You would say that this person is pensive or somebody might look pensive.

And usually if somebody is pensive, it's because something requires that deep thought.

It could be something serious.

It could be something bad or unfortunate that makes somebody pensive.

And really have to think about something.

The next adjective, which is another one that I really like, is circuitous.

And circuitous has four syllables.

And there's a few things going on with the pronunciation.

In the first syllable that C is going to have more of an S sound.

The stress is going to be on that second syllable.

And that C - U, it's kind of like you're saying the letter Q.

And circuitous is talking about a very roundabout way to get somewhere.

Where you're just not taking the most direct route.

And I think we've all probably tried to go somewhere

and maybe we got a little lost, and we went way out of our way.

And we ended up taking a circuitous route.

And frequently it's used with this word when talking about the direction that you go.

And it is just this windy, roundabout way

that you try to go and get somewhere.

Circuitous.

Next is conscientious.

And this is a great adjective to describe...maybe yourself or someone else.

And I think the pronunciation is what makes many learners avoid this word.

Because they look at it and think what's going on there.

So conscientious has four syllables, and the stress is on that third syllable.

That /en/ /en/.

That second syllable is what really confuses people.

Because that S - C - I almost sounds like you're saying "She."

And someone who is conscientious

just means that they have a moral responsibility to do

their work carefully, and also you know treat others with respect.

And be fair to others.

Someone who's conscientious is really able to

put themselves in another person's shoes.

And really see how they feel and empathize with them.

They are aware of their surroundings.

And because of that we would say they are conscientious.

Great word!

The next word is meticulous.

And this word has four syllables, and the stress is on that second syllable.

That first syllable also has that schwa, that /uh/ sound.

That reduced vowel sound.

This is another word that I like because I think it does describe me in in many situations.

If someone is meticulous, that means that they try to

pay really close attention to the details.

They're meticulous in their work.

They're focused on the details, and they want to make sure every little thing is in order.

Someone is meticulous.

Now it's usually, I think, it is a good thing when you're

talking about somebody's work.

That you want to pay close attention to the details, so you don't miss anything.

And be very meticulous.

The final adjective that I have for you is convoluted.

Convoluted also has four syllables, and the stress is on the first syllable.

That second syllable, again has that schwa sound.

That reduced vowel sound. /uh/

If something is convoluted, it means that it is extremely

difficult to follow because things are connected

and intertwined, and mixed around in a way that's difficult to understand.

That means that something is convoluted.

It can be used to describe a story, or an argument, or

maybe even a sentence that is hard to follow, and it doesn't make much sense.

It's convoluted.

So those are ten super-awesome adjectives that will

help you sound smarter when you're having a conversation in English.

It'll also help you be more descriptive when you're

expressing your thoughts, your ideas, your opinions.

So please, use those adjectives.

After RobRon dramatically broke up last year, Emmerdale fans have been willing for another hot couple to grace our screens.

Step forward Charity and Vanessa; after their romp in the cellar of the Woolpack late last year, fans have been willing for the pair to get together, with viewers dubbing the twosome Vanity.

Although they have been flirting up a storm in the last few episodes, the pair are at loggerheads in tonights episode, after Charity laughed at Vanessa spilling her strawberry smoothie down her top.

In a furious row, she dubbed Charity dull and slammed her abilities in the bedroom.

"Give her a lid for Christs sake!" Emmerdale fan But eagle-eyed Emmerdale viewers spotted an error in tonights show, taking to Twitter to call out the blunder to soap bosses.

Vanessa initially spilled her smoothie from Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw) down her top because she didnt have a lid.

But fans asked why Vanessa didnt get a lid for her second beverage.

Seriously, why doesnt Vanessa have a smoothie lid? asked one viewer.

Another fan slammed: Give her a lid for Christs sake! Why isnt Vanessa getting a lid this time? Im twitching, complained a third.

A fourth said: Any respectible coffee shop wouldve put a lid on Vanessas takeaway smoothie, especially on the second one. It was a dramatic night in the Dales for Vanessa, after she spilled to vet Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) that best friend Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) was still in love with him.

While Paddy was left reeling by the news, it may be too late for the beloved couple to reconcile.

Rhona was seen getting hot and heavy with hunky Pete Barton (Anthony Quinlan), with the vet leading the gorgeous farmer up to the bedroom.

Will Paddy and Rhona get back together? Or is it too little too late? Emmerdale continues weeknights at 7pm on ITV.
