- I wanted to talk to you a little bit
about the misperception that people have
that high-paying corporate jobs
are the only way to make a good income.
And I wanna share this because I've been talking
to a lot of women, including my clients,
who had the belief that kept them stuck
for a really long time in the corporate world
when they were really unhappy.
They believed that you couldn't make
a great six-figure income working for yourself.
And I think that that belief comes from a lot of things,
but number one, probably the prevalence
of MLMs in network marketing out there,
where people are not making, in general that kind of income.
And then secondarily, it comes
from just lack of information or lack of understanding
about the entrepreneurial world,
and how to build a business appropriately,
in order to make enough of an income
to be able to support your family,
and live the life that you want.
So, I wanna tell you what I'm seeing happen,
and honestly what happened to me,
so that I can help you see that there is a different way,
and that your perception on this is not accurate.
So for years, I sat in a corporate job, feeling trapped
because I made a really good income.
And my family was really dependent
on the good income that I have.
I've been the bread winner in my family
for most of the time that my husband and I had been married.
And with three kids, and activities,
and a house and everything else,
it really stopped me from moving forward in my life.
And it was because I believed
that I couldn't replace my corporate income.
And the reality is right you're not gonna go
from one income to that exact income immediately,
so you have to build a plan.
But that's easy, you can build a plan right?
But what stopped me is feeling like I couldn't make
that income, or I wasn't sure how to build a business
that would let me make that income.
And so, I'd actually got to a point
where I was so unhappy in my career,
and I had made so many different moves
trying to make it better, that it got to a point
where I literally just couldn't do it any more.
I was just done.
I was done with the long meetings.
I was done with the politics.
I was done with getting up and doing work
every day that didn't energize me.
And so for me, when I finally decided to leave,
I had gotten to the breaking point of basically saying,
this is no way to live, and I'm willing
to literally cut my income in half,
and figure out how to live my life better,
to not have to suffer and not live this way right?
To not regret missing my children's childhood,
to not feel the dread of getting up every Monday,
the dread of Sunday nights thinking about
going to a job that I didn't feel super passionate about.
And that's what I see happen with so many women.
And I think that's why so many people
are stuck in corporate America, so unhappy for so long.
Is because they believe that they have to make the choice
between a good income, and being happy,
and having the life that they want.
And it's not true.
You know, the thing was, I had a misunderstanding
about the ways of which that you could build a business
and make really good money as an entrepreneur.
And I'm really blessed to have gotten
some really amazing coaches that helped me learn
a number of things that I didn't know
about the entrepreneurial world, that I've invested
really deeply in, for not only my personal growth,
but for the growth of my clients.
And so when I realized an entire world
that I had misunderstood, it totally changed my perspective
about entrepreneurship, and about the misperception
that the corporate way is the way to make the most money.
Intuitively we know, right?
As your own boss, the only limit
you have on your income actually is yourself.
But somehow, when you're sitting
in your corporate world, you're faced with,
that job that has paid you a steady income,
a really good, comfortable income, you forget that.
And so I wanted to give you a couple examples
of some recent work that I've been doing
with some of my clients, to help you understand
just a couple of ways of which you can
think about making really good income,
that's actually much better than
what you were making in your corporate world.
So first and foremost, if you are in a consultant type job,
or a CPA type job, any job where you are
helping other people, or other businesses.
First and foremost, if you're working for a company
doing that, you're probably getting no more than
about a third of what the company
is charging for those services right?
Because the company is having to pay for overhead expenses,
all the corporate talent, all of those things.
And so, say for instance you are a consultant,
and your company right now is charging $250 an hour
for the services that you are providing for someone else,
you're probably making a third of that.
And what's interesting right is, if you went out
on your own business, and were able to solve those problems,
and help people in the same way
that you're doing in your corporate job,
you don't have the huge expense overload
that that company does, right?
So then look at that, if you're making 30%,
you've got 70% barrier between what that company
is charging and what you can charge.
Do you think that would enable you to take your prices up?
Pretty significantly right?
Do you think that you could build a business
that could niche and directly help people
in a more impactful way than a large company could?
Absolutely you can.
So what does that mean?
It means you probably easily could double the income
that you were making, with the right business model right?
Because even if you double the income you're making,
you're still charging 40% less than that big company is.
So that's example number one.
Seen it happen, and it's a beautiful thing
when you have the right business model to make that happen.
And the right work-life balance,
and the work that you find fulfilling,
and the time to spend with your kids right?
Okay, so here's a second example
and one that I'm super excited about,
and definitely has made my week.
So I have a client that recently joined me,
like within the last week,
and we were actually having a great discussion
on her business, because she has been doing
some freelance business in the same realm
of what she was doing in the corporate world.
Was trying to figure out how to make it work,
and really has joined my program
to be able to level-up her business,
and figure out how to have a really successful income.
Another example of someone who was making six figures,
doing really well in the corporate world,
but was really unhappy.
And felt like there was a better way,
had an entrepreneurial spirit,
really wants to have the right balance for her life,
and she too had started to play it small.
Had started to say and think to herself,
okay, I'm willing, what if I made half of the income
I made in my corporate job, I could survive,
and just be happy because I have the life I wanted.
So I sat and talked with her yesterday,
and we literally went through
and built out four or five different ideas
for how she could build her business,
that not only would make what she was making
in her corporate job, but would more than double
what she was making in her old corporate job,
and would be a business that she would love,
and something that was fulfilling to her,
and something that would make big impact
in the world, and help other people.
And so I just wanna give you these couple of examples here,
and just really help you to start to think differently,
and start to challenge the perspective that you have,
that you can't make a really good living
outside of the corporate world.
Because not only can you make a really good living,
but you, in many cases, can do substantially better
working on your own, in building a business
that you're much more passionate about,
with a lot more time to do what you wanna do.
The reality is if you actually added up
all the time in your corporate job today
that you're spending doing stuff that's not meaningful,
sitting in meetings, dealing with politics et cetera,
I would venture to bet, it's at least a third
of the time you're spending in your job.
As an entrepreneur right?
None of that exists.
So you can actually spend your time
doing the things you love, and the things
that move your business forward.
So, that is the challenge and the piece of information
that I wanted to share with you today
about how to really think differently
about money and time, and what that looks like
at a corporate job, versus what that looks like
working on your own.
Because I can guarantee you, there are a ton of ways
that you can build businesses,
that will give you exactly what you want,
provided that you have the right skill, the right passion,
and the right big solution to help people.
That's really what it's all about.
And so if you are sitting there in your corporate job,
knowing that you wanna do something different,
but have been struggling to figure out
how to build a business, or how to make income
from what it is that you really wanna do,
feel free to reach out, I'll put my link in this video,
to reach out and talk to me.
You know, I've talked to a lot of women,
many of which are not a right fit for my program.
And if that's the case, then I'll let them know,
and I'll give them advice or clarity
in terms of how they can move forward.
But if they are a right fit for my program,
you know I recently had a client join me and she said
"I know that this is a game changer for my life"
and for me, that's what it's about.
I wanna be a game changer, and I am a game changer
for the clients that hire me,
to really be able to give them the life that they want,
and the life that they couldn't figure out how to get.
