Today I'm going to share my story in English for your listening practice.

Today I want to talk about tricks and techniques that I use to read more books

and retain more information

First, let's talk about how we retain information, how we notice things, how we

remember things. Our brain notices things that are new, that are surprising

It's really useful to associate your knowledge with your experience or

emotion

For example, rather than trying to memorize a list of English words

You can create your own sentences using those words and tie them to some

of your personal experiences or some of the things that you have went through

then you can remember those words longer

Let's talk about books.

I read about three to four books in a month. So that's maybe about

forty to fifty books a year.

When you're reading, you want to

divide your reading experience into three stages

First, what you do before you read. Second, what you do while you read

Third, what you do after you read

Once you start doing it and make small steps and change your actions

it becomes easy

What to do before you read a book

Let's say I'm reading a nonfiction book

Look at the table of contents.

Before we begin to read, we look at the table of contents and we decide

"Oh, this part looks interesting."

"This part looks confusing" While you're reading your table of contents

you want to make some guesses.

"I think this chapter is going to be about this!"

When you read the book your guesses might be different

You know sometimes you walk back from a subway station

to your house

While you're walking, your brain is not looking at the outside scenery

Your brain is using the past memories

and its processed information from the past memories and it's using that

information to navigate your way home.

That is why you can play on your phone and go home at the same time.

unless you notice something different - maybe there's a car accident

maybe you know there's a new building

When there's something new then your brain

notices things. Then you stop playing the game and you look up and you make sure

that you know everything is okay and then you go home

So in the same token, you look at the table of contents

and you make some guesses. You make some guesses about what

the book is going to be about. And when it's different from

what you expected then you will be able to retain the information better

It's new information and actually that's a good thing right?

That's a thing because because if a nonfiction book is regurgitating the things that you

you can go very quickly, you can read them very quickly

You only need to retain the information that you don't know yet

That's what you can do before you read a book. Now what do you do while you're reading a book?

I use index tabs.

I don't want to make it messy.

You have color-coded index tabs and you assign meaning to each one of these

Let's talk about nonfiction books

Because I'm an English teacher, while I'm

reading like non- fiction books

I mark words and phrases that I think are useful for my students.

The green tabs are words and phrases that I really like

I like the way this author describes this scenery

The orange tabs indicate the words and phrases that I think are useful,

that I want to teach to my students

I read more nonfiction books than fiction books.

The only reason I read fiction is for my students

So what do you do with these passages you highlighted and bookmarked?

I take those words and phrases and I either write them down or I copy and paste them to another location

I have this box of index cards

This is the method I use - when I come across

something that I resonated with then I would put them here

resonate with =/= impressive

The computer graphics in that movie was impressive

Kim Yuna's performance was impressive

I was moved / I was touched

I resonated with ~

I have a bunch of quotes from philosophers

When I'm tired and when I don't feel like doing anything that I just go through this quickly

Evernote

Once you have that information - Evernote, index cards, where it's

accessible

That's my system, and I'm always trying to improve my system better.

the person that I'm becoming that I had

some code that I was living by that I

was really deciding not just what

outwardly success looks like but what

does it mean to be a good person what

does it mean to be an effective person

what does it mean to be worthy of trust

and those things at the end of the day

those things are something that when you

invest in finding value in that that it

takes you somewhere amazing and as Bruce

Lee said knowledge will give you power

but character will give you respect and

at the end of the day I really can't

think of anything better than that I

can't think of anything that will keep

me company when I'm alone when there's

nothing but silence around when all I

can hear the sounds of my own thoughts

the only thing that is going to bring me

or you comfort is respect his self-love

is knowing who you are really and

knowing that you're true to that even

when nobody's looking and that concept

that notion of having a guiding light of

principle something by which you steer

by that you are always true to and then

in your moments of stress chaos

confusion of desire that in your moments

of deepest desire that you're still true

to that that all you think about is that

want to be when you let that be your

guiding light when you stay true to that

nothing can hurt you because nothing

will be able to make you feel badly

about yourself because once you know who

you are and you're true to it nothing

else matters

people and situations that upset you see

there's some people that know just how

to say but I'm not going to expend any

energy arguing with anybody life is too

short ladies and gentleman and

unpredictable I don't want to spend my

time arguing with anybody so I bought

situations that will get me upset I

don't argue with people draw the line

ladies and gentlemen there are certain

things that we just go through life just

taking and at some point you just got to

draw the line and just say enough is

enough you got to do that with yourself

one negative stroke is 16 times more

powerful than a positive stroke and if

you have people around you who are not

sensitive to who you are and the people

that can hurt you the most ladies and

gentlemen are the people that you love

that you love they're the ones that you

are vulnerable to they're the ones that

can get to you and if it's insensitive I

don't care who they are

see if you don't draw the line with

people if you just let them run rampant

in your life and you let things happen

to you that you don't feel good about if

you continue to allow it to happen you

won't feel good about yourself your

image of yourself will erode so you've

got to draw the line a lot of people

just go to a job where they're miserable

day in and day out why do people stay

together and they're miserable sleeping

in separate rooms arguing are the only

thing they have in common

paying the bills don't talk don't

communicate don't share anything

together day in and day out is short and

unpredictable but life is being mean to

each other what do people do that

known Hills are preferable to strange

heavens because it's familiar see life

is rough ladies and gentlemen it's rough

and it's scary it's scary growing it's

scary taking a chance it's scary acting

on your intuition on your guts it's

scary it's frightening they're people

that just tolerating things right now

and they're immobilized by fear they can

see the hammer coming and they afraid to

even move because it's scary to go

against the dominant thinking of your

family friends and those people you

associate with every day is perhaps the

most difficult act of courage you will

ever perform see when you start growing

when you start changing the way you walk

the way you talk the way you act the way

you respond to things the way you use

your time when you start saying no I

can't do that why you do you're too busy

you don't have the time to I have my own

agenda so if people can put you on a

guilt trip they will and use you and

abused you over and over and over again

you got to draw the line you have to

draw the line on it don't go through

life feeling like you're powerless

victims of people that are powerless

you're not powerless you are powerful

you direct the power in your life

whatever your life is right now it is a

duplication of your consciousness its

result of how you have decided to use

your power that's all it is that's not

who you are that's just a perverted use

of your power that you aren't satisfied

with and you've got the power to change

that wherever you are home I don't know

but I know you've got the power to do

that but you don't know what has

happened to me it really doesn't matter

has happened to you see the only thing

that really matters is what are you

going to do about it that's all that

matters that's all that matters you can

allow it to destroy you or you can allow

it to bill you up we never get to a

level where we feel that there's nothing

else for us to do that we've achieved

certain number of goals and we figure

that we're through no no you don't want

to stay there and celebrate too long

like a lot of people do they do

something they consider outstanding they

go around talking about what they used

to do see let me tell you I used to do

this and I used to do that excuse me

used to bees don't make no honey what

are you doing now you're still here

breathing that means you've got some

more to give doesn't matter how old you

are doesn't matter about where you are

doesn't matter about what you have

doesn't matter about what you've done

life is about growing it's about being

productive it's about stretching it's

about challenging yourself so you start

looking around and decide hey hey what

else do I want to do what got me here is

a time for celebration but also a time

for reflection what got me here what

worked what did not work what do I need

to do to repeat so that I can get the

same kind of results in other areas of

my life if the goal is to improve my

health if the goal is to improve my

relationship if the goal is to improve

my income if the goal is to improve

something in society what is it I need

to do now don't get confused with what

you do with who you are don't trip don't

go on some type of ego trip by talking

about how bad you are none of us do

anything by ourselves develop an

appreciation for external support as

well as good fortune because all of

those things play a role the other thing

is don't go overboard celebrate you must

meet with triumph and disaster and treat

those two Impostors just the same you

look at hey I did it I feel good about

that now you're moving on to the next

thing things did not work out the way

you wanted them to work out you didn't

produce the results you wanted to

produce hey miss that win some you lose

some

moving right on don't confuse who you

are with what you do and make your mind

fertile ground for the seeds of

opportunity thinking you want to

experience a sense of fulfillment you've

got to have an open mind so that ideas

can come in there and take root and grow

so part of beginning to have fertile

ground you know you got to break that

ground up you got to break up that hard

crust because if you don't seem to fall

there and the wind can blow them away

the winds of doubt when you're set in

your mind and you refuse to grow and

you're not open to new ideas new methods

new ways of doing things if your mind is

already fixed

you become stagnant you can't grow you

can't have a sense of fulfillment you

become extremely cynical and negative

about everything you know it all so you

want to begin to look at life and have a

sense of curiosity not know it all

you want to keep learning keep growing

realize that we had a theme you never

find out how much you know until you

find out how little you know and there

are some people you can't tell anything

they have all the answers or I've

already done that so many months count

ourselves out of things prematurely you

don't know what the possibilities are up

in there so you want to be open you want

to continue to learn you want to

continue to grow you want to begin to

know that their unlimited ideas out here

waiting for you to latch on to them and

if you don't take advantage of them when

they come your way because you're so

close-minded do understand somebody else

will

we've all had ideas that we did not act

on and looked around and somebody else

had the idea and going with it so be

open and receptive become involved in

life live your fantasy most people go

through life not living their fantasy

going sitting up in the bleachers

looking out on the field looking out

into the arena wishing that they were

down to just fantasizing seeing

themselves running with the ball decide

to live your fantasy see in life you can

go through life you can come up with

reasons or you can come up with results

you can come up with

so you can come up with achievements you

can go through life blaming or you can

come up with solutions the choice is in

your hands satisfaction or despair we

can choose that so look at your life and

decide what it is that you want to do

that will give you a life a sense of

worth someone said that your life worth

is measured by your accomplishments and

not by your complaints want to have a

fulfilling life decide not to make your

life predictable so some people their

lives very predictable they got a little

routine they do that and they follow

that day in and day out day in and day

out you don't get much juice and

happiness out of life like that if you

are predictable you want to change it up

variety most certainly is the spice of

life here's something else one it

created greater sense of fulfillment

challenge your fears challenge them look

those fears in the face and take them on

don't allow them to rule you decide that

you're going to take some chances you've

got to be willing to risk if you're not

willing to risk you can't grow in life

life has no power when you're not

willing to risk instead to laugh is to

risk appearing the fool to weep is to

risk appearing sentimental so reach out

for another is to risk involvement to

expose feelings is to risk exposing your

true self to place your ideas your

dreams before crowd is to risk their

loss to love is to risk not being loved

in return to live is to risk dying to

hope is to risk despair to trys to risk

failure but risk must be taken because

the greatest hazard in life is to risk

nothing the person who is nothing does

nothing has nothing is nothing they may

avoid suffering in sorrow but they

cannot learn feel change grow love

and live chained by their certitudes

they are a slave they have profited

their freedom only a person who wrists

is free

Habits that Harm Your Heels: Stop the Pain!

There are many habits you may have that can harm your heels.

Have you ever checked to see how your sneakers get worn down? This may be a direct message about the health of your feet and heels.

Experts say that your shoes should mainly get worn down in the heel area.

However, if you realize that you've started to wear down the inner part of your sneakers, this may be a sign that you are suffering from some kind of foot problem.

Today, we'll talk about habits that harm your heels.

These are things that, in the long term, can result in more serious complications, such as sprains or a painful calcaneal heel.

Check out the following information, because your foot health is important!.

So, how do you wear down your shoes?.

Take a look at the image above.

On the upper left side, you can see an image of a foot in a normal position, with the heel resting on the floor.

Now, if you take a look at the right side of the image, you will see a heel that is slightly inclined, causing that person's shoe to wear down on the inner part.

This is a sign that the person has walking problems, and that they step in a way that, in the long term, could lead to more serious problems.

Normally, when walking or running, there are three different ways that people place their feet on the ground:.

Supinator.

In this case, the person puts their weight on the outer part of the foot, and this part is most heavily impacted when it hits the ground.

Pronator.

Pronators walk in the opposite way.

In other words, they tend to place all of their body weight on the inner part of the foot.

Neutral or normal.

Here, the person places all of their weight in the middle of the foot, without leaning toward one side or the other.

Now, you're probably asking yourself, which of these forms of walking is the healthiest? In truth, they are all technically correct forms of walking.

Problems tend to occur when you get into "excessive pronation," which can be identified by sneakers with heavy wear on the inner part of the foot.

You may suffer from this problem if you get more tired than usual when walking, if your ankles hurt or, when you place your foot on the ground, if you feel like a needle is pricking your heel.

You should definitely be on the lookout for these symptoms and that kind of wear on your shoes and sneakers.

As soon as you see heavy wear on the inner part of your shoes, you should talk to a specialist.

How to care for your heels and prevent excessive pronation.

First of all, you should figure out why your shoes are showing signs of excessive pronation.

This will probably coincide with you starting to feel a bit of pain in one of your heels:.

Usually, heel problems are more common in women than in men.

This is related to bone and joint wear.

So, you may start to experience these symptoms around 45 or 50 years old.

You should also keep in mind that your heel is one of the biggest bones in your foot, and that it is responsible for carrying all of your weight.

What does this mean? Well, it means that obese people, for example, run a greater risk of suffering from these types of problems.

You should also be careful when it comes to back problems.

An injury or any kind of pain can cause you to change your natural posture, which also changes the way you walk and the way you place your heel on the ground.

So, keep this factor in mind!.

Take care of your foot and heel health.

The most important thing you can do is watch your weight.

Try to stay in shape and keep those extra pounds from adding even more weight for your feet to carry.

You should also keep in mind that the joints in your feet are very complex.

There are tons of bones that make up a structure that is very sensitive to your movements and weight.

So, keep this in mind.

Make sure to use the right kind of shoes.

We all know that high heels are never healthy for your feet or back, but that doesn't mean you should wear totally flat shoes.

They're not good for foot health, either.

Ideally, you should use a heel that is between 2 and 4 centimeters tall.

You should also make sure your shoes have adequate support in the heel area, with a flexible rubber sole which will absorb shock much better.

Don't hesitate to invest a bit more money in a high-quality shoe.

Exercise is always a good thing, but make sure not to do anything too intense, because that could also cause foot problems.

Swimming, for example, is great for your bones, muscles and joints.

Improve your diet by consuming more magnesium, silicon and zinc, which are great for strengthening your bones and muscles.

What foods are rich in these minerals?.

Spinach. Oatmeal. Walnuts. Almonds.

Beets. Parsley. Squash. Sesame flour.

Oily fish.

So guys, first of all we will talk about

rainy season which is quite active nowadays, guys, in this

first of all, you have keep your kids safe from mosquitoes and dirtiness

because whenever kids go for playing in park

and they usually get covered in dirt and mud and

it is quite important to save kids from all this

So, for protection from mosquitoes, use neem oil in your kids once a day

so that mosquitoes stay away from your kids

Now we will talk about hygiene, which is also very important

also it is important to go for playing and because they never obey to refrain from playing

so for that guys, give them a shower after playing (after there sweating dries off)

2ndl guys, kids usually suffers from cold

in changing weather, so let's talk about cold first

In summers season we use to run

AC's and coolers, and we often forget when to stop the usage of coolers

or AC's which

is very important because

when kids came back from the school or whenever they sleep in afternoon

wearing shorts and all, and continuously running AC's and coolers

can cause cold in them, therefore it is very important to

switch off the AC's and coolers on time

because nowadays weather is quite cool and we can easily adjust

in normal fans.

and let your kids sleep under fans, because if hotness at that time

may not affect your kid however, the coldness at the same time can

cold and fever to them, so prime reason of cold is

caused by AC's or coolers

so keep them switcth off, 2ndly cold is caused by

when our kids comes from school or from play

they are full of sweating and then they

immediately drink water so for this what you have to do is

Stop putting the water inside your fridges or refrigerators

So that your kids will not be able to find the cold water at home

you can give them normal water but I will recommend

give them lukewarm water

I advised this to so many people but what I found is

people find it hard to give warm water to their kids and they find how kid can drink warm water

but trust me guys,

it is very important to give water to your kids in changing weather

I am giving you an idea about it, give warm water in their school water bottles

so that whenever they ask for water they have just one option to drink warm water

even in park, bring the lukewarm water, or you can put a bottle at home named by your kid

at least, whenever your kid is thirsty,

he doesn't have any option, they have to drink warm water

these are some basic things that if you keep these in your mind

your kid will never suffer from cold, so the 1st point was

to protect your kids from ac's or coolers and give them luke warm water

if you take care of these things, I am 100% sure

that our kids will never suffer from cold, in upcoming video, I will tell you

what to do when your kids already suffering from cold

we will talk about cough, which is mainly caused when kids use

to eat oily or fried snacks and then they drink water immediately after that

you may have noticed, we hardly drink any water but kids

want water every now and then

so, never give them water if they just had oily or fried food

because as you know water and oil combination is a big NO NO

as oil becomes solid when we add water in it, the same happens

inside our body, so never give them oil and waer altogether

as this is the prominent cause of cough in kids

so avid this combination always, sometimes it happnes

that kids ate something oily or fried, then in that case, give them

lukewarm water immediately, so that oil goes down in the stomach

and there is no chance of cough. Sometimes

cough can lead to chest congestion

and oil and mucus accumulation get started in kids chest

for that you can give them steam, 15 minutes of steam three times a day

is sufficient and that is also in case of severe congestion

otherwise only warm water will work

so thatwhy I repeatedly say, that warm water is very important to our kids

and is very important in changing weather

So always avoid water and oil combination

After that condition we are going to address is "fever"

whenever your kids suffers from fever above 100.4 degree celcius

only then give them medicines, or avoid any medicine in such fever

for that give them plenty of rest, sometimes

ever just don't go away because their body requirement is

rest, let them have enough rest and encourage them to take more rest

fever will vanish without any medications

they are also very very effective

so guys, These are few tips that I told you and you have to keep these things n your mind

so now what to do when your kids suffering from cold

so guys, if your kids suffering from cold and they have a runny nose

or cold or congestion, this treatment will help you incredibly

this is so effective and is going to help you always

what yo have to do is "make your kid sleep, for 2 hours in the afternoon"

and cover them completely and cover them in a manner that

cover even there faces, but the problem is

you have to keep your fans or AC's switch off

Fan should also be off completely because

the wind from fan can hinder the breathing of the kid

let hem perspire alot and

the cold vanish away in just 2 hours and in case

it just doesn't go away, repeat the process in the night

you may find little problem in it but your kid's cold will go away

forever because when you practice this 2 to 3 times

you will find this method so effective taht you repeat the process

always when your baby gets cold

so for cold, only one treatmet is there, just cover them completely

please don't give any medications as they are quite harmful

so these are tips about how to protect the kids in changing weather
