What $1,895 Will Get You In L.A. | Sweet Digs | Refinery29 - Duration: 6:28.
Hi, I'm Xochil.
And I'm Courtney.
And welcome to our Sweet Digs,
sorority edition.
Before you come in make sure you subscribe below.
Come on!
Our apartment is located in West Hollywood,
we pay $1,895 a month.
It's about $950 each,
and then Utilities are about 50 dollars,
so that's like about 1000 each.
And we think that's really affordable
here in Los Angeles, especially considering what
other people pay.
It's 840 square feet,
and it's 2 bedrooms, and one and a half bathrooms.
We both went to Cal State Long Beach,
and we actually met through our sorority
Delta Gamma.
This is our living room.
This is where you'll find us most of the time,
binge watching The Office or something.
I first saw this apartment listed on craigslist.
We came and we saw it,
it was at like 4:00pm
so it was very sunny though these windows,
and it looked so magical and so beautiful.
I furnished the place in about 1 week.
I went to a million stores every single day,
trying to find places, texting Xochil pictures.
Some of the stuff's even like furniture we had from the past,
but it didn't match so I painted it.
She's very crafty, this one.
Before we moved in, Xochil went to Ikea,
and she saw this perfect couch.
I was like okay, I'll look on Craig's List first
just to see if I see anything similar,
and then we ended up finding the exact same couch that we wanted.
It was for about half the price, so it was 600,
and she delivered it, so it was so perfect.
We do have this really cool balcony
that goes across our whole living room.
We do go out on it, but not that often
just because it's very small.
The only struggle we have with it
is the fact that our slide door is like impossible
to open and close.
And then.
Oh, I got it that time!
And then over here, we have our dining area and our bar cart.
We definitely eat in front of the TV more,
but whenever we have people over this is our
favorite part to be,
because it has our cute bar cart,
and then it has our Vogue posters.
It's the focal point as you're coming in from the doorway,
and then it just perfectly
captures our whole like design theme.
This one on the right, I had in my college dorm,
and so I've just kinda had it with me all these years.
I honestly just found these two other covers on the internet,
and then they matched perfectly,
so I just framed those as well.
Over here is our kitchen.
I don't personally cook very often.
I typically only make eggs like in the morning,
or I'll make like dinosaur chicken nuggets
in our oven.
I tend to do a little bit more cooking only because I try to save money.
Some things I can make well is like
pasta, steak, and chicken.
But I'm trying to learn new dishes so that I have more of a variety.
For decorating our kitchen,
I wanted to add some color to this very white kitchen,
so right here I added this fabric
that I glued around a piece of cardboard
and it just adds a little tiny pop of color.
So this is our tiny bathroom,
we tried to do what we could with the small space
that we had.
We tend not to use this one as much.
I would say we definitely use that one more just because this one's so confined.
This is our big bathroom.
The one with the shower that we share.
We don't have a set schedule for sharing it,
but we will always just check in, be like,
"Do you need the bathroom?"
Like, "Do you need the shower?"
just to like, see with each other, but usually it just works out.
On these tiles,
they were white with like brown and blue circles on them.
But I covered them with white washy tape
just to make it more white and pink
and match with our overall theme.
And this is my bedroom.
It's very colorful.
I found this painting actually in the dumpster.
Me and my mom happened to drive by the dumpster.
We were like, "Oh my gosh,
there's no way someone meant to throw that away,
it's way too pretty."
So, like, a few days later we drove by it again,
we were like, "Nope it's thrown away for sure
so I'm taking it"
And I have no idea who Burt is,
I literally found this in the trashcan.
I have a twin sister named Lindsey.
After we both graduated from college,
we went on this trip throughout the country,
and one of our stops was in Austin, Texas.
There was this street artist who was writing poems.
We decided to ask him to write about twins,
and he wrote it, and then we both have a framed copy
of it in our rooms, and it's just really special.
I'm in fashion, I'm a stylist.
I used to work for celebrities,
but now I'm sort of transitioning into something new.
I would describe my home style as
very colorful,
but it's also very influenced by my love for fashion,
and I also used to be a ballerina,
and I have a lot of pieces, especially around my room,
that have the ballet influence.
This is my bedroom.
Very white and simple.
My room is definitely more neutral,
white is my favorite color,
and it has pops of pink
and gold and silver.
Definitely like to make it look as clean as possible.
My room has been an ongoing process,
I still haven't finished decorating it completely.
When I'm out and I see something
that matches the decor, then I'll bring it home.
There's still a lot of things that I feel like I'm missing.
So, it's definitely not done yet.
The most sentimental thing I have in my room
is this picture frame circle I have right above my desk.
I'm just a very organized person in general,
so I feel like my desk always has to be perfect.
It kinda serves as my workspace.
Kind of a little bit of storage,
and my studio whenever I have time to sit down and record something.
I work in public relations,
so I work right now at an agency.
In my next dream apartment,
really would just be somewhere that allows dogs,
because right now we can't have pets here
and I miss my dog.
I would say
our home style is a perfect combination of the two of us.
Mine's very colorful and sort of vintagey,
and then hers is very simple and neutral,
so I think out here in the shared spaces
it's very much an even combination of both those.
The worst part about our apartment
would have to be the fact that we share a parking spot.
Street parking is okay here
but it's really annoying that we have to text each other every day
after work, "Are you home yet?
Are you coming home late?"
And then we have to figure out who gets the spot.
We complement each other as roommates I think.
Our relationship is a very perfect roommate relationship,
we get along super easy,
we're very good at communicating,
but we also have our own lives.
We're just such perfect roommates,
like we have no problem with each other at all.
Thank you so much for watching our Sweet Digs.

A funny joke about a taxi driver and pastor that went to heaven - Duration: 1:03.
A funny joke about a taxi driver and pastor that went to heaven
A pastor and a taxi driver both died and went to heaven.
St. Peter was at the Pearly gates waiting for them.
'Come with me', said St. Peter to the taxi driver.
The taxi driver did as he was told and followed St. Peter to a mansion.
It had anything you could imagine from a bowling alley to an Olympic size pool.
'Wow, thank you', said the taxi driver.
Next, St. Peter led the pastor to a rugged old shack with a bunk bed and a little old
television set.
'Wait, I think you are a little mixed up,' said the pastor.
'Should not I be the one who gets the mansion?
After all I was a pastor, went to church every day, and preached God's word.'
'Yes, that's true.
But during your sermons people slept.
When the taxi driver drove, everyone prayed.'
Chuckled?

WE ARE NOT PETER MCKINNON - Duration: 9:05.
what's up shenanigans John here and I am back! this topic it's kind of tough
it's something that that I think means a lot to me but it is something I think
it's sensitive to a lot of folks when it comes to creativity. I named this one we
are not Peter McKinnon and I did that because Peter just released a video the
other day about people saying they are not Peter and people giving other people
hard times about using the tips and techniques that he teaches that he
expects us to use but before we get started if you are new here this channel
is for creators it's for those who wish to create for those who are looking to
be inspired motivated for those of you looking for like-minded content creators
wishing to share our our experiences here on YouTube that's your kind of
thing please click that subscribe button and the bell so you'll get notifications
when I release a new content now I'm moving on to the subject at hand
look it is completely undeniable but the influence that Peter and Casey have had
on YouTube it has been extremely positive the knowledge and positivity
and just the skill that they've brought to this platform as I think better all
of us it has helped us all search to increase our skill our editing our
filming and just our overall creativity that is not the problem I see with Casey
and Peter I think the problem is and it's not even that people who are
choosing to just kind of mimic a lot of the styles they have I think the problem
and I think some people really poorly explained this when they comment on a
video is not that they're using these tips and techniques it's that they have
no voice of their own they're literally copying the the template that Peter or
Casey has and when a storytelling the way they use the cuts and transitions I
think it's fine to do that when you take those things and you reverse-engineer
them and you make them that you're your own the more and more that I consume the
video I see the heavy influence and heavy saturation of all the style that
Casey and Peter bring to YouTube I see it just completely flooding videos it
does make the videos more interesting but do we really need another
forty fifty thousand Casey's out there another 20 or 30 thousand Peters out
there producing the same kind of content with the same kind of visual tricks
yeah they look really good but if everyone's doing them they're no longer
special they're no longer cool anymore and let me tell you what I believe is
going to squish the next person out of the head of everyone is the person who's
moving away from that the person who's leading the pack and changing all of the
things that they've learned so they can become unique like Peter and Casey did
at the times they came out now learning from people is not bad they taught us
all so many different things and that's not the point here the point is not
taking what we've learned and reusing and it says how are we using how much
are we really using are we completely just almost mirroring their vlogs what
they do I see it a lot and I'm never gonna give someone a hard time I'm never
gonna make a comment that say anything to put anyone down because I think this
is a learning process every video that we produce is a learning process for us
so I'm never gonna do that there's videos that I put up that have been
almost exact copies of the styles of people I've learned from in the past
just because I was trying to kind of recreate them to see if I could do it
and I couldn't so you know I'm still chasing my voice out here I'm still
watching lots and lots of people and learning the lots and lots of different
things out here just trying to fit what fits with me you know it helps my
creativity to see what other peoples do and again I'll mention reverse
engineering I did that in software world when I learned the software development
and I do that out here trying to figure out how do they do that cut how did they
do that transition how did they do that shot not so that I can just copy it but
I can learn how to do those things because you know those are just tools in
your toolbox from when you're trying to be creative you're trying to think of
something to do so the other day when Peter released his video I found it
extremely helpful that he explained how he thinks about his influence on YouTube
so he told us that he goes out and watches these videos any breeds in the
comments and he sees these people just really going after these folks and Peter
talks about that and that he finds that very disheartening he finds it
flattering that people would take the influence that he's brought to
the platform because he says that's why he teaches us the things he does is
because he wants people to learn them I don't think he wants people to copy his
style his signature verbatim I don't think any of us want to do that
but I think it is a learning process for a lot of people but in the grand scheme
of things over time trends are gonna change there's gonna be new Peters and
there's gonna be new KC's and what are those people doing I guarantee you those
people are not just copying Casey and Peter there they're going out and
finding all of the people that they find interesting from varying different
backgrounds and styles and really finding out what makes them tick and
what fits with them in their personality you know going out and figure out what
color schemes really fit with your personality of the filming techniques
the lens that you use the style of talk that you use your your mannerisms
there's just so much to figure out about this platform and who we are as
communicators and creators on this platform there's literally infinite
infinite amounts of influence that we can bring in to us on YouTube and I
think for all of us as we start to evolve we want to move away from the
Peter clones and the Casey Neistat clones and moving away from everyone
just being little reflections of them it's cool they do awesome things and you
know even if you watch them you'll see that they're changing they get
influences other places too but then they'll tell you when they do they'll
tell you when they get influenced by people and I find it interesting because
they're successful what they do they don't need to change a thing they can
continue to do what they do and they're going to be successful but even they
know the evolution is necessary and they're gonna need to keep pushing the
bar because those guys are not followers their leaders are leading all of us down
the road of creativity and eventually there's gonna be people that peel off of
them and then we start to follow them and it's gonna be so interesting to find
out who the next crop of people that come out of this class of Peter and
Casey Neistat followers. I already see a lot of really, really talented
people coming out of them, you know Casey and Peter picked a couple of
those people out of you know four very different things they do and they're
super talented you know it is you know it's very hard sometimes to see like wow
why do I even do this?those people are just so talented I'm not going to never
get there. but I'm never gonna give up and you should never give up eithe.r you
know there's a crater that I've watched quite a bit it's a young guy names Luke
c
Korns and he's one of the best storytellers that I've seen on YouTube
and it's mind-boggling because he is such a young guy he's so artistic and
how he films things and he travels the world and he is wise beyond his years
and is extremely interesting to me how he's become who he is I've watched a lot
of his stuff from when he was in high school and now he's a young man travel
in the world I can't tell where he's got his influence from and I find that
extremely interesting when I watch him he seems to almost be organically unique
from everyone else and I think that's where we all need to try to focus our
energy it's okay to find influence it's okay to learn these methods and tricks
and techniques but who are you who are you who are you gonna be but if you find
your voice and you take all the influences around you and you formulate
your own voice and someone can watch you and say I can't really figure out who
they got all this from. that's interesting to me, that's unique, that's
someone who's going to change the platform that is all I have you know I
love Peter McCann and I love Casey Neistat and I love all of you out there
that are struggling every single day to learn something new it's not easy to be
out here on YouTube it's not easy to learn from scratch like many of us do
you have to put in a lot of time you have to grind out here and usually a
very little audience so I support all of you again find your voice find out who
you are find out what you want to say and change the world through the way you
want to do things. alright, that is all I have you guys tonight. I hope you enjoy
this conversation, I'd be super interested if you guys would comment
below all the people you find influential in
your world, who influences you, who do you think we need to be sing comment
below who those people are and let's all go check out those people and let's find
the next Peter let's find the next Casey let's find that person we're all gonna
be copying again.. that's a joke guys come on
all right until next time, I love you

What's brewing in Jax? - Duration: 3:01.
Hey and welcome to What's Brewing in Jax.
Every week I take a look at what's happening in the craft beer scene in the Jacksonville
area.
I'm at Really Good Beer Stop on 3rd street in Jax Beach and today I'm having a Cobra
Fang Berliner from Red Cypress.
If you want a delicious pint of craft beer absolutely free, stay with me, because I'll
tell you how you can get that.
Every week, I give you a new code to use so that you can come in to Really Good beer stop
and get a pint of craft beer for free.
It's a new promotion we're doing together with Really Good Beer Stop.
So all you have to do is to come to the shop on 3rd street in Jax Beach anytime during
the week, pick a beer you want from the board, and make sure to let them know that you watched
I Know Jax and this week's code is Dog Days.
Pretty cool, right?
Make sure to tell all your friends and make it a party.
And speaking of party.
The kids are going back to school, so there are plenty of events around town for that.
Intuition Ale Works is having Back To School Family Night on Friday August 10th.
They're pulling out all the stops for this one.
There's a family movie on the Big Screen, bounce houses, giant legos, games and prized.
And by the way, bring school supplies or a backpack for a free pint of beer!
The Back To School Family night takes place on Friday Aug 10 from 4-8PM.
Sunday is going to be a day for fun.
It's the Second Sunday in Springfield and this time the event is taking over Main street.
There will be an indoor market with the makery, Live music, tasty food, craft beverages and
many businesses and vendors.
My friend from Pastries by Andrea IS coming, Bleu Chocolat, The Sweet Spot and many others.
And did I mention craft beer.
Hyperion and Main & Six are right there too.
I will definitely try to make it out that day.
But Sunday is fun day and Aarwolf is calling my name with a beer release.
They will be releasing 22oz bottles of Rum AND Whiskey Barrel Aged El Mariachi - their
chocolate oatmeal imperial stout with Cinnamon, Mexican vanilla, and a blend of ancho and
chipotle peppers.
That's definitely my kind of beer.
Bottles are $15, cash only, and they're also releasing other specialty brew beers.
That's on Sunday Aug 12 from 2PM - 10PM.
But I'm not done yet.
Here at Really Good Beer stop they're also planning for a fun Sunday with games.
They're bringing back the good old classic Paper, rock, scissors.
This is how it works, there's a two dollar by in and the pot will be split among the
winners.
The event takes place from 3-5 pm on August 12.
Paper, rock, scissors - and craft beer for Funday Sunday.
Could be good!
That's it for this time.
Now if you want to try a Cobra Fang Berliner from Red Cypress you need to hurry here because
at really good beer stop they rotate their 20 beers on tap all the time so there's always
