Well big school is a whole new world for little ones.
Nationally, this occurs in most instances
when they've turned five.
Nowadays when it comes to school readiness,
there's less focus on a specific academic readiness
but more broader developmental domains.
Parents can review the different areas
that I'll be going through
to question where they think their child's at.
For example, language skills.
Is my child able to follow instructions
and understand directions?
Can they communicate what they need to teachers and peers
and can they ask for help?
Motor coordination and independent skills could include,
is my child able to conduct
everyday motor and self help skills?
Such as opening their lunch box, eating their lunch,
holding a pencil and undressing themselves
to go to the toilet, for example.

And also in the area of concentration and focusing skills,
would my child be able to deal with the structured nature
of the classroom?
Would my child be able to focus
on tasks and follow directions?
And could they transition from
one activity to another as well?
Social, emotional and maturity skills are also
a big area to consider.
So, where are my child's socialising skills at?
Are they able to follow the rules,
be cooperative with their peers?
And could my child manage behaviour
in varying social situations?
Also, is my child aware of the feelings
that they experience as well
and could they handle these feelings?
And if you have been doing emotional coaching
with your child, most likely they are ahead of the game.
