How do you find the percent of a number

unis do the percent multiplied by the total or the whole thing so we know how

to find the percent of a number I want to know what the word increase means to

do what does increase mean yes all right increase means to add I'll just ask what

decrease means all right that's all that is this is all you need to know to

understand the homework so you'll be doing this first and one of these second

so you're doing two things every single time for these problems they had a

certain number of births at Grace Hospital how many births were there yes

3,200 births that's beautiful new babies born in 2005

and 2006 were there more babies born or fewer babies born what does that mean if

there was a 15% drop so we'll say there is a 15% decrease so we're gonna have to

subtract so what do I do for this problem I want to know the actual number

of babies born I know my answer is gonna be smaller than 3,200 because it says a

decrease right you don't do 3,200 minus 15 because this is babies this is

percent those are two different things so how do I find this answer yes sir

all right the percent fifteen percent that's 15 over a hundred times the total

and when I do that oh nice I can cross out this 0 with this 0 this 0 with this

0 so it's just 15 times 32 and I'll just rewrite it down here 15 times 32

well 10 times 32 is 320 half of 320 s 160 so that's 480 so that is a that's

the decrease what does decrease me to do again

alright so here was step one I just multiplied the percent so step two I

just do 3,200 - 480 and what do you get when you subtract those two numbers sir

all right so this would be two thousand seven hundred and twenty births for 2006

says mr. Smith bought gold at nine hundred and fifty dollars per ounce so a

you that's the chemical symbol for gold one ounce of gold is nine hundred and

fifty dollars that's how much he bought it for and I'll just say bought so he

bought one ounce of gold for nine hundred fifty dollars how much does he

want to sell for does he want to sell it for more or less I hope he wants to sell

for more because if he wants us up for less he's gonna be losing money so how

much does he want to sell for he wants it's up for twenty percent more so in in

this he wants a twenty percent profit you'll say so the question is how much

is he gonna sell it for yes

so what did you do what did you write down oh okay so you're using the arrow

method so if you think back over there we just multiplied the percent times the

whole number what he's doing is just saying the whole thing a hundred percent

represents nine hundred and fifty dollars he's trying to figure out what

20 percent is so he's doing is like well I know a hundred percent is this much if

I divide by 10 that becomes a ten percent and then I can multiply by two

to make it into a 20 percent so if he did that here he just does the same

thing over here nine 50 divided by 10 is 95 and then 95 times two is 190 so he

just did it a different way but it's a valid way I like this way because it

just works out step two you just do well the gold was 950 bucks he wants to sell

it for $190 more so when you add those together you get one thousand one

hundred and forty dollars

so the idea is find the percent and then add or subtract so step one the upshot

the final thing you need to find out the thing that you want to do is this step

one find the percent and you can do that doing Micah's way by just multiplying

multiplying the percent by the total or just using the arrow method you know

that a hundred percent represents this turn it into that percent just make sure

to do the same thing over here after you do that step two you're either gonna add

or subtract from the total if it says increase you add if it says

decrease you subtract all right that's Nord is gonna go on the video all right

you're gonna skip exercise four and you're going to go to your workbook page

Is a TEFL Certificate *Actually* Worth It? - Duration: 7:19.

You're looking for a reason to be abroad long-term,

you're wanting to work and really get to know your local community,

then getting TEFL certified and teaching abroad is the best!

So, first things first, what is a TEFL certification?

Well, TEFL stands for "Teaching English as a Foreign Language."

TEFL is a type of certification that's acknowledged worldwide.

And, it is a credential that you can earn to teach English in another country.

So, do you reeeeally need a TEFL certification?

Yes and here's why.

If you have not taught before, and this was the case with me, I was not a trained teacher—

y'all I had no idea what I was doing!

Just because you can teach your dog a word or two of English, doesn't mean that translates

to teaching people.

I needed to learn how to be an English teacher.

There are conventions and things that I've always stuck to

because that's how I learned the language just growing up speaking English,

but I could never properly or succinctly explain those rules to someone until I took a TEFL

certification course.

A TEFL certificate makes you stand out when applying for jobs.

Show future employers that you have the stuff to make it through a really rigorous course

load in a very short amount of time.

It really helped me to be more competitive and get the job that I have,

and also allowed me to be more competitive with my salary.

(Plus) Most schools will require it.

So, get that certificate if having a good teaching job is one of your goals.

But is [TEFL] actually worth it?

Yep.

It's definitely worth it.

It's a really great experience!

I mean, whether you decide to immediately go into teaching abroad,

whether you're planning on teaching English abroad as your whole career, or as just, maybe,

a little sabbatical or break, it's only going to ensure that you have

a successful time.

I didn't want to just be a teacher, I really wanted to be a good teacher

and I felt like having that foundation in the TEFL certificate was going to provide

that for me.

I'm doing lots of planning and working and preparation to make a classroom that is both

engaging and helpful to my English learning students.

You're going to learn great communication strategies.

You're going to learn how to lesson plan—which, sounds like it's very specific to teaching,

but writing up those plans and thinking higher level,

trying to teach really complex concepts, is something that is easily translatable into

any field, and is really going to help you long-term

regardless of where you end up.

And, I think that's really valuable.

First things first is you've gotta look for programs online.

Make sure it's a reliable and trustworthy program through word-of-mouth references—

you can ask to speak to someone who has taught with them before.

Make sure they have a staff that's responsive and will answer your questions.

Check that they have a credible website, look up reviews,

I read a lot of blogs.

There's a few ways to [get TEFL certified].

I went the route of getting mine online because I have a lot of teaching experience already.

It's a great way to go.

It tends to be less expensive.

It's really convenient, you can do it on your own time.

You're able to take a much more personalized approach to getting your TEFL certificate.

And, sort of learn in your own style and at your own pace.

But, if you don't have that teaching background I definitely recommend looking into

getting TEFL certification in a classroom environment.

You can also do an in-person course in the country where you plan on teaching.

You can really adjust to life abroad in-country while taking your TEFL certification course.

And, that can really help you once you get in the classroom.

You're all settled in and it makes it a little easier in order to start interviewing,

and finding those teaching positions in-country.

Once you find your program and you've signed up—

you're either chugging away online or you're going to class every day,

you're going to have 120 hours minimum of classroom instruction.

To kind of get a feel for the industry and what it's about

This is where you're actually getting up, you're in front of a class, and you're

teaching these lessons.

As far as working with students, you know, that's really the fun part.

Teaching practicum is incredibly important to make sure that you are ready to go abroad

and teach!

Make sure, also, that the program has rigorous requirements.

You don't want to be going to a program where they allow just anyone at all to teach

because that probably means that they don't care about their students.

Once you've aced all of that and you have your certificate in hand…

Use the resources from your program.

A lot of TEFL certificate programs also include alumni services that have job placement assistance,

in addition to helping you with your resume, and interview questions, and things like that.

So, really take advantage of those resources.

It's really interesting to see what jobs are available,

where they are, how much they pay, what's required.

Think of a place you really want to go, you really want to teach, and start your search

there!

And, hopefully you'll find something quick.

But, the world is really your oyster.

There are so many different countries that need qualified English teachers.

You're just one click away from being an ESL teacher abroad.

*HAPPY DANCE TO THAT*

One thing that no one told me, though, was that not everyone is there because they want

to be.

It's just really important that you always, at the heart of things, keep your students

in mind.

For me, when I was learning a language I was PUMPED,

I was so excited to be in the classroom.

But, depending on where you are in the world, some people may be learning English not because

they want to, but because they have to for tourism or for

their job.

So, ask your students what is their motivation, why they're there, and take that and be

compassionate.

Make sure that you're listening to them and helping them engage.

Really find that "Aha!" moment, where they get it,

because that's the best part about teaching— that little "ting!" when you see the light

bulb go off.

Inspire these kids to not only learn English, but enjoy learning English,

and continue learning once the class is over.

So, if you're excited and you're wanting to help students reach that light bulb moment,

teaching English abroad is definitely, definitely, definitely for you.

And, if you want to teach abroad then you have got to get your TEFL certificate.

Teaching abroad is really one of the best ways to be abroad for an extended period of

time and to do so in a meaningful way.

One last time for the people in the back!

Getting your TEFL certificate is totally worth it and you should start looking for programs

RIGHT NOW!

How To Use A Fountain Pen - Duration: 8:39.

Hi I'm Kirby Allison founder of The Hanger

Project and here we love helping

the well-dressed take care of their wardrobes.

The purpose of this video is to discuss

an important accessory that any one

well-appointed should own: a proper

fountain pen

and stationery.

So the first two pens I purchased were roller

balls and the reason I purchased roller balls

was honestly I was intimidated by

how to use a fountain pen.

In this video, I want to show you how easy

fountain pens are to use

and talk a little bit about why a fountain

pen sets you apart

and why you should own one.

If you're anything like me I save all

the handwritten notes I receive

and if I come across them at some point

in the future I always take a point to

read them a second time because they make me

feel good and so a proper

note handwritten on stationery

with a beautiful fountain pen really

does send that message

across that you're thankful

or were thinking about someone.

So the first question is why a fountain

pen?

The reason fountain pens are so much nicer

than roller balls is because of

the way that the nib allows the

ink to flow freely onto

the paper.

Fountain pens enable you to write more

easily

and just produce a more beautiful

written note than a rollerball.

Secondly, a fountain pen is a signal

of refinement

and an opportunity to embellish something

that you would already be using everyday;

a pen.

Lastly, with fountain pens you're able

to use a variety of different

inks;

even mixing your own custom

ink to really just show

that extra hint of effort

and refinement.

In this day and age where so much of our communication

is over text

and email, taking the moment to

write a handwritten note

with a proper fountain pen really sets

yourself apart.

By further embellishing that

with custom inks

or really interesting inks

and fine stationery,

you're just minding those

last few subtke details

that really show that you're taking

the time to care

and be thoughtful.

So the fountain pen that I own is a waterman

elegance

with an ivory handle

and gold detailing.

You can see it's got the gold detailing on

the nib.

I ordered a medium point nib

and I just love writing

with this. It's easy to write with.

It has a bold kind of wide stroke

and I just really enjoy

gold detailing.

GouletPens.com is a great

place to look for different fountain

pens and inks

and so it's important to buy a fountain

pen that really is just a reflection of kind

of your personality.

You know something that you personally connect

with. There's three different inks that I primarily

rotate between.

The first and probably my most favorite

is this limited edition mont blanc

permanent grey.

It's a really dark gray ink.

It's not quite black

and I like I like it because again

it just is that small little detail

that sets you apart so it's not black,

it's not navy,

it's not a light gray

and so it just kind of

subtle detail that someone notices

but they're not really perceptive.

Now I've got the midnight blue ink

from mont blanc

and then I've got a

intense black ink from waterman.

Now what's beautiful about a fountain pen is

with a cartridge converter,

you're able to really easily switch

between different inks.

And so one of the things that I'm going to show you in this

video is how to fill one of these cartridges

up and prime your pen

so that it's writing well.

Now this waterman is certainly not an inexpensive

pen and I really viewed it as kind of an investment

in something that I would be using for a long

time.

But you don't have to spend a lot of

money on a fountain pen to write

with one.

On Goulet pens

or even Amazon for that matter it's very

easy to find cheap fountain pens

that cost less than $50

with steel nibs that will still

allow you to write

with a fountain pen without spending too much money.

I like to use something that's called

a converter which is essentially

just a small cylinder

with a piston inside that allows

it to be filled

and refilled with ink.

Now you can also use something called a cartridge

which is essentially the same thing

but it's not refillable.

I like the converters

because it allows you to have

more control over the ink.

It's easy to refill so you're not having

to constantly buy different

cartridges and then secondly

it allows you to use

a variety of inks

that are available

in the inkwells.

Now I've got a leather shoeshine carpet that

we use for shoe shining

but oftentimes I'll do this

above a trash can just to make sure that

I don't spill any ink.

This ink is incredibly permanent.

If you get it on anything you're never getting

it off so you absolutely want to be careful.

Unscrew the inkwell

and then you're going to want to

flush any of the ink that's from

the piston out right so

you twist this until

the little piston in there pushes

all the way up.

Then simply stick it into

the inkwell jar

and then pull the ink in

by reversing the piston

much in the same way that you would use

like a medicine syringe or something.

Drop it off a little bit

and then always have something close by

to just wipe that texture

off.

So now that you've got that full,

insert it back

into the fountain pen.

And then simply prime it by

twisting the piston to push

into the barrel.

Now if it's a new pen you're going to have to do this,

you know more than you would

think and this is why you want to be doing it over

some type of napkin

or a trash can because ink

will actually drip

and flush out of the pen.

So I'm going to show you what that looks like

and I'm pushing it

and you can see it can actually take a pretty good

amount of ink before it starts coming out

and there we

go it's starting to drop. So once you see that it's starting

to drop out that means that it's fully flushed

and then what you want to do is just run that

on top of some type of napkin

or piece of paper.

Just to take any extra ink

out of the pen.

So once we've got that done then

I'm going to screw this back on.

A fountain pen honestly couldn't be more

easy to use. There's no tricks.

The most difficult thing is figuring out how

to fill up the converter

and I just showed you how to do that.

If you'd like to look at different fountain pens we've

got a link in the description of this video to

Goulet pens which is who we recommend

for fountain pens.

They've got absolutely incredible

videos and other things on their website that

will teach you everything you need to know

and they've got an absolutely comprehensive

selection of beautiful fountain pens

both inexpensive

and the most expensive available

and a comprehensive selection of different

inks. So we spoke about fountain pens

and so now I want to talk a little bit

on stationery.

Now it's easy to find inexpensive

stationery these days.

Crane.com is an absolutely fantastic

source for stationery.

The next thing above just nice stationery

is customized stationery

and it doesn't have to be super fancy.

Really nice stationery is just simply

personalized with your name at the top

and it's engraved.

Engraving doesn't mean that they're engraving

the piece of paper

but what it means is that they're engraving

the actual block that's used to

print your name on the paper.

Now with writing notes again you're always going

to be using a fountain pen.

And I like personally just to have

the month and the year right.

So October

2017 right.

Just find that not being super specific

on the date just again

slightly generalizes.

Then you just would start off.

Dear Jonathan

thank you

for the kind

and thoughtful birthday. And you see with a proper fountain pen

that's properly primed you get

a beautiful ink saturation that just

flows nicely across the note.

So you'd write the note out

and then just simply sign at the bottom.

I hope you enjoyed this brief overview of fountain

pens, stationery

and why I think it's important to use them

to write handwritten notes.

When you cheer, what do they hear? - Duration: 3:30.

No! No!

Yeah, I hate that one!

I feel like it's always my goal.

When someone yells that at me, I'm like, really?!

You think I don't want to pick it up right now?!

I like that one. Yeah, It's a good one.

No, I don't like people telling me what to do!

That's a good reminder.

I also like that too.

If they're in your face about it, it's not helpful.

It's just the way they present it.

This is the type of person who leans way out into the course and screams:

"You got it! You got it."

Do you like the In Your Face Guy?

No! I'm like, step back! What are you trying to do?!

That's a little bit too much most of the time.

I'm the one racing and you're not. You can relax.

I'm the one who should be taking care of this right now.

When someone on the other team is cheering for their own runner behind you.

And they're saying, "Catch her, she's dying," referring to you.

And I can hear it too. So when people cheer by putting down other runners...

That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Cowbells kind of stress me out, to be honest.

I haven't heard that one that one.

Oh, have you heard cowbells?

No, I haven't.

Ok, no cowbells!

Oh gosh no. If there really is one last hill...

It can throw you off...

But if you know there are more hills, then that's just annoying.

It's mean!

That's another one. Really? I know that.

I'm going to make my move when I make it!

Ah, no.

Sometimes I think that it's such a long race that running smart has many different connotations.

Yeah, again like I'm not gonna run dumb!

No! I think I would just be confused.

That would be reassuring.

That's helpful. I like that one.

No. Because it's never true!

It's not helpful because usually we're not almost done.

Or it doesn't fell like we're almost done.

That's one with not a lot of thought, but it definitely gets you going

It makes me try to be confident in myself and know that I can finish it.

Our coach yells something to me every time, which is just, "Be brave."

It's toward the end when I feel my courage starting to go away.
