You Are YOUR Responsibility: 11b: BK Shivani (English Subtitles) - Duration: 15:00.I met a very senior Scientist at Delhi
He works in a Research Lab for 14-15 hours a day at a very position in Delhi.
He counsels people.
From his face I felt he might be a little depressed.
So I asked him to take out a few minutes to come to the centre while commuting to office, and learn meditation
Sit in meditation for 10 minutes and then leave to office.
His immediate answer was that he has no time.
I told him it takes only 10 minutes any time - morning or evening
He said, "14 hours I spend here"
"in this Research Lab. The remaining few hours are for my family."
"So amidst these it is not possible to take out time for myself. Driving time takes 2 hours."
"With all this, there can be no time to give for myself."
How does the priority list look? Work, Family and then Self.
Since Work and Family are taking so much of time, we do not reach Self at all.
The priority list itself was not right.
At workplace there is tension and stress.
When we come to the second one (on the list) - Family
We carry forward all the tension and stress with us and bring them home in the evening.
We had no time to take care of the Self
What does spirituality teach us?
It teaches us to turn this priority list upside-down.
1. Self
2. Family
3. Work
It has to start with the Self
Everything
And it does not mean we need 14 hours for the self, it is not about time.
It is about priority and attention.
Even if it is a vehicle with Self-start feature
And most important if this is a vehicle
the driver is here (soul)
The driver will first start the vehicle
the vehicle will then start moving
and then the journey accordingly continues.
Responsibility list has to be very clear.
If I am fine
I am in control
Then my relationships in the family will automatically be good.
Self-control
When my relationships are beautiful and I leave for office
how would my energy level be?
When I leave home for office in this state of mind
my way of working at office will also be different
and when I go back home in the evening I will radiate all the good energy to my family too.
This whole thing becomes a cycle.
Just as how we saw earlier if the child (your mind) cries for a minute
withdraw from your work and first take care of the mind.
This is your priority list.
Today we all talk about having a lot of responsibility
First responsibility
Myself.
Responsibility
The word is so beautiful.
Response - Ability
This is responsibility
Response and ability
The ability to respond in the right way is responsibility.
Beautiful
Everything else comes after this.
The biggest and most important responsibility
The ability to respond the right way in every situation - this is my first responsibility.
But this comes only with awareness is it not?
The small child in the cradle, the pot of water on the head (discussed in previous episode) - it all needs awareness
Yes there is awareness
but let us prepare a priority list now.
Because today people say they do not have time
So to guide us we need a priority list.
You want to manage time is it not?
Prepare a priority list and do your tasks accordingly.
On our priority list in Life, ensure that I (the state of I, the being) is Number One.
For example at the Brahma Kumaris centre
Or at the Headquarters (Mount Abu, Rajasthan)
We organize several major events.
But some people believe there is not much work for those residing in the campus or Ashram.
The amount of activity that goes on at our centres
or at our Headquarters
cannot happen in any other setup. Of course it is not just an Ashram, I have been there.
It is like many big universities combined into one and not just one university.
Yes
Feels like many universities are combined to form this one.
From what I have seen in today's world
If somebody needs to organize one conference
they take 6 months to do it because it is too huge an event for them
At Brahma Kumaris Headquarters in Mount Abu, every week we have one conference spanning 4 days.
There are anywhere between 1,000 to 5,000 guests attending them
and about 20,000 people attend annual retreats.
They stay there for 4 days.
So the centre gets 3 more days after that batch leaves
to clean up and organize to welcome the next batch
just those 3 days before the next conference begins.
This has been going on, event after event after event.
It is not a small thing, there is so much work that goes on.
But what meditation teaches to handle all the work
We need to do everything
right from 4 in the morning till 11 at night.
It is not even that work begins at 10 AM like in offices.
Our day begins at 4 AM and work ends by 10 or 10:30 PM.
We need to do everything but while doing it all
attention is on our state of mind.
It should not happen that we get so occupied in organizing the programme
that you get angry, have ego clashes or create problems.
Then the programme is of no use.
God teaches us a beautiful line
If any Seva (service) creates a disturbance in your state of mind
there is no use of doing such a seva.
First pay attention to your state of mind and then focus on Seva
then it becomes successful
because of vibration.
Today when we talk of success of any event or program
we talk about the platform/stage or hall being good
people reached on time, decorations were good
the programme went on well.
it had great audience too.
God clarifies about the priority list.
Was everybody's state of mind good?
Was the right vibration created?
Only then it was successful.
Few days ago when I had been to Brahma Kumaris at Mount Abu
I met a boy who showed me around and took very good care of me
He narrated a story to me.
He said Dadi Janki ji (Administrative Head of the organization) told him they have a guest from London.
She asked the boy to take care of that guest.
He did so and later updated Dadi Janki ji about how well he took care of the guest.
The boy also requested Dadi Janki ji to check how happy the guest was with the hospitality.
He even dropped the guest to the Airport.
And then Dadi Janki ji replied
"I did not ask you to make him happy."
"I told you that You first be happy and then take care of him."
How beautiful.
"You be happy and remaining in that happy state of mind, you should serve that guest."
This is it and this is the mantra of life.
Do everything.
Work the entire day.
But do it happily so your state of mind should be on top of your priority list.
Next comes everything else.
Even if there is a slight disturbance going on within
at the cost of something that is happening outside
I will first withdraw, take care of this (mind) and then do everything
This is success.
Today if we ask what success is
Are you successful in life?
Do you count yourself as successful?
Successful is the one whose state of mind
is powerful, happy and peaceful.
Stable, strong, powerful
If somebody's mind is not in his control
how can he be called successful
Even if he owns huge buildings and has employed lakhs of people
has several cars and bungalows in many countries
His mind is not in his control
and he claims to be very successful in life?
We need to check the definition of success.
It just means that while acquiring all these things
on his responsibility list
he did not keep himself or his state of mind on top (first priority)
Each of us creates 25 to 30 thoughts every minute of the day.
25 to 30 thoughts in one minute.
That is the average when we are in a normal state of mind
Otherwise up to 45 or 50 thoughts.
if we are tensed or anxious about something
then it can go up to 45 or 50 thoughts.
If it goes higher than that, it leads to a nervous breakdown.
That also happens at times.
3,600?
Yes but in one day?
I was thinking of one hour. Don't know how many thoughts in a day?
in one day considering our sleep time when speed of thoughts
does not go to zero but the speed is less.
It will be less (while sleeping) as compared to the 25 to 30
because 25 to 30 thoughts per minute is in the Awake stage.
Mind crosses 40 thoughts per minute when we are in a Tension stage or in anxiety.
When we are asleep, it slows down
In a Dream stage it would be 17 to 20 thoughts.
In a deeper sleep stage, it would be 8 to 10.
It never becomes zero.
So considering this average, it comes to about 50,000 to 60,000 thoughts in a day.
This is my factory.
With a production of 50,000 to 60,000 thoughts in a day.
Now if we ask, "Should we be aware?"
If we call it our production
Suppose we make 50,000 to 60,000 garments
And only a small fraction of it is useful and rest of them are useless and need to be thrown away
What kind of a businessman?
He will just have to shut down his business.
That is what is happening.
We all have such a big business house.
with so much production (thoughts)
but how many are useful?
how many waste thoughts are created in one day?
We have reached a state of bankruptcy.
There is no happiness left.
We need to open a mart to sell all the waste.
This is awareness that I am the owner or master.
These thoughts are my creation.
I am the creator of this industry.
You said we are the masters
and these thoughts are my creation
My mother would tell my when I was a child
"The region from your head to toe is your world."
"If you win over your mind, you win over the world."
Beautiful.
If we win over the mind then you win this world (body) and also the entire world.
This outer world
Yes, that is also the world.
Your family is our world. Your office, your staff
Our friends and relatives are also part of our world.
It means your world.
We have all heard that line since childhood - "If you win over your mind, you win over the world.
But when we come into action we say if we win over the world then we win over our mind.
We say if the world is according to me
my mind can remain happy.
Our equation was wrong is it not?
Became the opposite.
equation itself went wrong.
When an equation goes wrong
We need to solve a problem in mathematics but the equation we wrote on the first line is wrong
Equation was - "If you win over your mind, you win over the world."
But we said - "If you win over the world then your mind will become happy."
When equation is wrong
Regardless of how many additional sheets you take and fill up
In our exams if we went wrong in the first line of a problem
but we went on trying to solve and took 10 pages
We felt the exam went well because we took 10 more papers.
to answer that whole question
But the teacher will not even look at 10 pages when the first line is not right.
The solution can just not be arrived at.
Today we are putting so much effort in life is it not
We are doing workshops, seminars, training programs, counseling, everything.
With so much effort and attention.
But our first line is wrong
How many ever pages we fill, how much ever we work hard to put in time and energy
We will not get the desired solution.
So we need to hold on this mantra that our state of mind
Our state of mind is our first responsibility
We need to take care of this child (mind) lovingly
Even if it is restless it is fine. It is ours.
I also understood another thing today
about how to win over our mind. Not to scold, suppress or curse it.
These things do not work.
We should win it like how we do with a child - with love.
The way we pamper a child with different things like chocolate or music.
It now seems to be a game to be played with the mind.
See, when would refer to this as a game, in the earlier episodes
You would question as to how can it be a game.
Now you have called it a game.
I had treated this game as a war and was fighting with my mind.
Now it is fun.
Now it is fun, it is a puzzle.
Like how we play Sudoku.
Now enjoy the game
When challenges come
I play Sudoku with a pencil so I erase mistakes and correct them.
I can do that in life also. Fine to do mistakes, do it right again.
As long as the first equation is right
However big or long the problem is
just take care that the first equation is not wrong.
If the first equation is right, then if not today at least tomorrow
Even if it takes a little more effort
We will arrive at the solution which is happiness.
That is being bliss. We want to be happy.
Please give us some homework for today.
You have taken up a lot of homework already.
Self awareness, responsibility,
Self to be first in the priority list
Regardless of how much we need to work, priority should be state of the Self (mind).

Energy Within Environmental Constraints: Air Pollution -- Particulate Matter (HarvardX) - Duration: 5:00.Finally, particulate matter, or PM.
PM is just what it sounds like-- tiny particles that fall so slowly
they can hang around the atmosphere for a long time
before being deposited on the ground.
The particles most dangerous to human health
have sizes less than a few microns.
The most common measure of PM concentration in air
is PM 2.5, the total mass of particles less than 2.5 microns per volume
of air.
PM can range from unburdened nanoparticles
of carbon emitted by diesel engines to tiny droplets of sulfuric acid form
formed from SOx emissions.
PM is therefore both a primary and a secondary air pollutant.
Some particles are emitted directly into the atmosphere
while other particles are formed in the atmosphere.
PM is a major threat to human health.
Scientists understanding the risks of PM and of other air pollutants
is mostly based on epidemiological studies.
Because estimates of health risks are so important in driving decisions about
our energy future, it's worth taking a few minutes to look at these
epidemiological studies so that you can form your own opinions about what they
can and cannot tell us.
Perhaps the simplest science that particulate matter can harm our health
are the correlations between measured PM levels
and hospital admissions or mortality.
This data shows the impact of very high levels of PM
but it doesn't show the impact of chronic low-level exposure to PM.
To figure that out, we can look at long-term health
of people living in areas with different amounts of PM pollution,
for example different cities.
Of course the problem is that cities differ
in all sorts of ways that can affect health-- other pollutants, employment,
average age, et cetera.
Epidemiologists do their best to separate out each of these factors
and estimate the impact due to changes in PM alone.
Here are results from one of the most influential air pollution
epidemiological studies ever done.
The net result is that an increase in PM 2.5 of 10 micrograms per cubic meter
decreases your lifespan by roughly 3/4 of a year.
The annual average PM 2.5 values in Beijing approach 100.
That means that residents' lives will be shortened by many years.
Look up the PM levels in the city you live in
and figure out how much it is likely to shorten your life.
How certain are these mortality estimates?
My view is that the overall estimates are pretty accurate, though they still
might easily have uncertainties of a factor of two or even more.
However, is much less clear which component of PM causes the problem.
Some researchers think it's mostly due to metals and toxins,
while others think that most of the damage
is simply caused by the total amount of PM which mostly
comes from sulfates and nitrates.
The answer really matters, as it should shape where people put
their efforts into pollution control.
Here's the recent history of PM levels in the United States.
Average PM 2.5 has fallen by about a third since the year 2000.
Now have a look at the time history of all six of the US criteria pollutants.
Notice that progress for ozone and PM, the things
that actually have the most health impact,
have been noticeably smaller than progress
for the individual primary pollutants like lead or sulfur.
I do not think this is chance.
It's easier to control single pollutants than it is to control PM and ozone,
where many different sources-- both natural and human--
contribute in complicated ways to the total pollution load.
How have these reductions in pollution been achieved?
In almost all cases they've been achieved by technological changes
in the way energy is produced or used, either by changing the process
to reduce the production of the pollutant--
as when lead is removed from gasoline-- or by adding cleanup technologies,
like sulfur scrubbers on power plants or catalytic converters
on cars that remove the pollutants before they
are released to the atmosphere.
Beginning in California in the late 1950s,
the United States began the modern era of air pollution control.
The United States Clean Air Act is arguably the single most important
example of air pollution regulation worldwide.
The cost of control was not cheap.
At the peak of implementation, the cost of the Clean Air Act
approached 1% of the US economy.
These costs exceeded the costs of all other environmental cleanup measures.
What about the benefits?
The benefits were huge.
Several retrospective studies suggest that the monetary benefits
of the Clean Air Act-- lower health care costs, longer productive lives--
were many times larger than the cost of implementation.
By the time it has been completely implemented,
the Clean Air Act will probably extend the life of an average US citizen
by roughly a year.
That's the level of impact we're talking about for environmental controls--
an improvement in economy, and lifespan, and quality of life for everyone.

Eckhart Tolle 2018 Meditation - Realize That You Don't Need to Suffer Anymore - Duration: 10:03.the spiritual teaching or teacher if it is true says okay do you realize that
you don't need to suffer anymore are you fed up enough with suffering or would
you like to hang on to suffering anybody who has come here today has
already suffered enough otherwise you wouldn't be here so in a way your
suffering has been wonderful because it's taken you to this point I know that
I wouldn't be sitting here without having had dreadful suffering and pain
soit's it's taken you here and now the message that comes is further suffering
is not necessary if you voluntarily step into the new stage of consciousness you
choose the kingdom of heaven life doesn't have to drag you into it take
you into the kingdom of heaven it's painful it did like to me but now my job
is to tell people that you don't have to wait for that to happen to you choose
the new state and you're able to do that I wouldn't tell this to anybody but not
anybody comes here if you come here your level of consciousness the new
consciousness is sufficiently emerged already for you to understand what I
mean when I say you can choose to live in the state that is free of suffering
you can choose the state in which suffering is not possible anymore
unhappiness does not arise not a state in which you close yourself and you
become okay nothing can touch me anymore more attractive shell nothing to do with
that because if nothing can touch if you have a
protective shell around you that means that all the beautiful and good things
can touch you anymore either that's not what it is it's a state of complete
openness a state of such intense presence that unhappiness has nowhere to
cling to any more because unhappiness can only cling to a mentally made sense
of self a little me pasts which moves continuously in past and future and
continuously ignores the now so the realization that in the now there are no
problems and there is no unhappiness and the unhappy me that lives through past
and future dissolves as you become present that's the teaching that's the
very same message that the Buddha gave two thousand six hundred years ago and a
few people got it and then misinterpretations started because the
mind started getting in there and saying okay let's work this out what does it
really mean how can we categorize it how can we make a system out of that so it's
heavy superstructure of mind staffer rolls on top of the beautiful teaching
so this always happens the mind tries to get in there and so the heaviness of
religion arises on top of the purity and simplicity of the original teaching and
this is the simplicity of the original teaching we are going back to that
freedom from pain is possible now
now first that means you understand how pain arises it arises by not being
present to this moment by running away by fighting by denying by running away
internally from what is so that's how pain arises always when you accept what
is the new state of consciousness immediately is present so you can't
separate acceptance of what is from the new state of thoughtless awareness the
moment you fully accept what is the new state of thoughtless awareness is
present the whole mind stuff is resisting what is its very existence the
very ground for its existence is the continued state of resistance to what is
so resistance to what is and the old consciousness go together so our
practice is to not resist what is and thereby access the power of life and yet
that may not immediately free you of all pain and suffering because humans have
been in that state for many thousands of years and there is an energy field of
pain that every human being inherits simply by the very fact that you are
born into the human condition into the unenlightened painful human condition in
ultimately mad human condition up to this point you are born into that so
every human being has a share of human pain and that comes even from very
as you are born into this world you're already born with a burden of pain so
this is a very important part of our practice and realization it is not a
facile thing of saying okay from now on we can all be happy it goes deeper than
that and we are not running away also we are not running away from the fact that
in you there lives an energy field of residue of past human pain on a personal
level pain from childhood that leaves residues energetic residues different
things painful things has happened to you in charge and of course far beyond
that in time but let's just talk from the level of your present existence in
this form pain that is carried over from your childhood and Beyond and leaves
doesn't go away completely it leaves residues of pain and energy fields
everything is energy then those energy fields get together
because they feel they vibrate at the same frequency so emotional pain gathers
into one mass of pain contracted energy that isn't flowing freely an energy of
that I call the pain body that humans carry inside an energy field of pain and
it's if you don't recognize that no matter how much spiritual practice you
do and even what we are doing here if you do not see you do not recognize how
the pain body operates it will trick you every time and you will lose
consciousness
you
