Are you ready to participate in a Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson?
The title of this lesson is,
Pecking side to side
By the way, if you'd like to go over the lesson quickly, or watch the gist in advance,
click the white-circled "i" icon at the upper right corner.
Otherwise, let's begin the lesson.
Sit on the chair please.
Well, actually you can do this lesson on the floor or standing.
Bring the right ear toward the right and return to the center.
The ear and the head move laterally to the right.
Try to keep the same distance between the ear and the floor.
That means the neck and the head do not bend but shift to the right.
Like this, do it many times to see how awkward you feel.
Pay attention to how you breathe.
At any moment, do you stop breathing?
Now to the other direction.
Bring the left ear toward the left and return to the center.
Leave it alone and rest.
Sit straight again.
Extend arms to the sides, laterally, at the shoulder height.
Keep looking directly front.
Now, elongate the left arm to the left and return to the original position a few times.
What can the right arm do to help this movement?
Yes, the right arm should go to the left along with the left arm.
What can the head do to help this movement?
Actually, many of you find yourself doing it already.
Yes, move the head to the left.
Again, pay attention to how you breathe.
And leave it alone and rest please.
Come back to the same position, That is to sit straight and extend arms to
the sides.
Once again, elongate the left arm to the left, and the head and the right arm move to the
left, too.
Stop all at the left end.
Turn the head to look toward the left a few times, and then stay there.
Now, the back of the head is looking to the right.
Take the back of the head to the right and return a few times.
Depending upon the angle of turning of the head, it may fall somewhere between the back
of the head and the right ear, that moves left and right.
The jaw moves left and right.
The head moves left and right, too.
And leave it alone and rest please.
Now we take it to the other side.
Sit straight and extend arms to the sides.
Elongate the right arm to the right and head, and the left arm moves to the right, too.
Stop all at the right end.
Turn the head to look toward the right and stay there.
Now, back of the head is looking to the left.
Take the back of the head to the left and return a few times.
And leave it alone and rest please.
Sit straight and extend arms to the sides, again.
Now, move both arms and the head to the left and return.
You are looking straight forward all the way this time.
Now return to the center but do not stop there.
Keep on moving to the other side and continue like this.
Stop at the right end.
Take the left ear to the left and return a few times.
Of course, your head and the right ear move to the left as well.
Don't let the arms move.
Remember you are still looking straight forward.
Pay attention to the back of the neck, the bottom of the neck.
To the seventh cervical vertebra.
And leave it alone and rest please.
Sit straight and extend arms to the sides, again.
Now, move both arms and the head to the right and return
You are looking straight forward now.
Now return to center but do not stop there.
Keep on moving to the other side and continue like this.
Stop at the left end.
Take the right ear to the right and return a few times.
Don't move the arms intentionally.
And leave it alone and rest please.
Simply sit straight please.
Bring the right ear to the right and then left ear to the left.
Only the head move left and right.
Feel any improvement?
This concludes the lesson.
Thank you.
