Safety Moments for Designers: Spiders - Duration: 9:21.

Welcome to Leader Logic! I'm Amelia, and today I wanted to go through a safety

moment, and I've just picked spiders as an example because it's one that we talk

about a lot here in Australia, and I wanted to use one of the supercharging

techniques that I discussed in my previous video about how

to make the discussion more relevant to designers. So, here we go! And the first

slide just shows an example of all the different spiders that there are in

Australia, I mean there's so many that National Geographic has come out with a

poster of them! Then around the outside of the slide I've actually added

a few particular examples, I can't remember all of the names but, um,

basically the ones on the vertical axis are the ones that are really dangerous

and the ones on the bottom are the ones that will give you a nasty bite but

won't necessarily put you in hospital. No one's actually died recently from a

spider bite, but they can be quite painful. You know, the one that we often

talk about is the red back spider which is the one on the center right hand side.

So yep, spiders are horrifying, they love hiding in nooks and crannies,

they love hiding in, you know, things that you've got leaned up against walls.

Often the safety moments that we have are all about how to prevent being

bitten, so a lot of the things that come up commonly are: being careful, keeping an

eye out, wearing gloves when you're handling equipment, making sure that you

can see where you're putting your hands so don't reach anywhere blindly like

under a ledge. Check under toilet seats, because sometimes you'll get a huntsman

sitting underneath the the toilet seat. I mean, there are a lot of things that come

up on construction sites really regularly, but for designers that's not

necessarily the most relevant thing to be talking about. I think sometimes it's

better to talk about how you might prevent spiders accumulating a

or congregating around the buildings that you're designing. So, first of all,

I've gone through a few other places that they hide, and you know, we'll whip

through those pretty quickly. So: trees and leaf litter, gaps in windows and gaps

around doors. Basically they can crawl through the tiny gaps and get into the

buildings, if you're designing a building or a storage shed or something like that.

They also accumulate around lights, usually because they're trying to build

webs in areas where lots of moths are flying so that they can eat the moths.

They also go up in high corners for the same reason, and basically anywhere where

bugs are congregating. They also like hiding behind anything that's stuck to a

wall or stacked up against a wall, so when I say stuck to a wall I'm thinking

things like air conditioning units, pipelines that are, you know, like down

pipes that are going against a wall. So, those are just the types of places where

you'll genuinely find them, and then also, you know, behind stock piles, behind

things that are on shelves, any stuff that you put down, you set and forget,

they'll tend to find safe habitat in. So, this is the meat of it, which is really

how you can design to prevent spiders finding your design attractive. The

first suggestion is to do with the trees and the shrubs and the leaf litter that

we talked about in the previous slide. Trees are more relevant to the spiders

that live in webs, and leaf litter is more relevant to crawling spiders, but in

both cases this first recommendation is really to look at ways that you can

separate those trees, mulch, leaf litter, anything that's going to be collecting

and providing a safe habitat for spiders, how to keep that a reasonable distance

away from the building so that you're kind of creating a no-man's land where a

crawling spider would have to be very exposed and out in the open to go from

that safe zone to the building that you're designing.

That's even before he manages to find a way into the building. And for tree

spiders, so webbing spiders, having that distance between the tree and the

building makes it a longer distance for their web to span so they're less likely

to be able to either build or maintain our web in that area. The reason why

the webbing spiders are important to reduce is because otherwise you're

just creating an operational or a cleaning cost to remove those webs. If

you can prevent the webs from going up in the first place, then you don't have

to clean them on an ongoing basis. Okay, so the next one is to specify vermin

proofing in your design. So for spiders we're talking about a fine mesh like a

flyscreen on the window if that's appropriate. Now encouraging predators!

You might think, 'well, how can a designer actually encourage predators for spiders?'

Well, what you could do is when you're scoping up a project, you can talk to,

you know, environmental scientists or ecologists and figure out what you can

do in the surrounding landscape to attract predators. So for example in the

case of spiders, birds eat a lot of spiders, and so what you could do is put

nesting boxes for local bird species in the area so that they're attracted to

the area and therefore more likely to encounter the spiders that you're trying

to avoid. And the second one was to encourage competitors. I've got a few

examples here, so apparently ladybugs are quite good competitors for some spider

species because ladybugs are actually carnivorous and eat little aphids. I've

put some geckos there as well because geckos, particularly in

Australia, like to eat the moths that accumulate around lights. If

you're having a problem with spiders because you're getting a lot of moths

accumulating, encouraging geckos to the area might actually be a way of

controlling the moth numbers and therefore keeping the

the spider population down. In that case we're kind of hoping that the

geckos will out-compete the spiders. Now, how you actually create a gecko friendly

environment, I'm not entirely sure. It could be as simple as telling people not to

kill the geckos. But there you go, some ideas to think about on how to prevent

spiders. I've got a few more here, so, one is to prevent the accumulation of

equipment outside in areas where spiders can find shelter. Actually bring the

equipment inside and put it in a very orderly fashion where it's just not

creating that that safe space (for spiders). Again from a designer's perspective your

responsibility would be to actually identify roughly how much equipment

needs to be stored and making sure that if you're designing storage you're

designing enough area to house all of that equipment. The next one is to

automate outdoor lights. So this is touching on the idea of lights

attracting moths and the moths being a food source for the spider. What you

could do is look at whether you really need the night the lights on as much as

they are at other places where you have these types of problems. Do they need

to be on all night, or do they just need to come on when someone's in the area,

would a motion sensor significantly reduce the amount of moths in the area

because the lights are only on for 10 minutes and in that space of time it

doesn't really attract that many months? The other related idea is to look at

whether the bulbs that you're using could be changed out with something

that's less attractive to moths. I am by no means a lighting designer, but it

looks like there are some product out there that create a yellow light and

that attracts fewer moths than a bright white light, so again things to look into,

things to talk to the relevant experts about, but they'll all cut down either

the food source for spiders or the hiding places just

so that they're not such a problem in your future designs. That's it for this

episode, Comment if you think I've missed

anything, and also I'd be interested to hear if you'd like to hear thoughts on

any other safety moment and how that might apply to designers. Like this video,

next time!

SOME, ANY, NO & NONE - Do you know how to use them exactly? - Duration: 6:13.

hi do you know exactly how to use some any no and particularly none

this is Susan Brodar from SPEAK Languages & TRAVEL the Worldhere to help you

improve your English with minimum effort the maximum benefit now most people

don't get too confused between the differences of summon Amy

so some which is used for the affirmative and any which is used for

the negative and the questions but as soon as we have to use no or none it

gets a little trickier so let's start with summon any it's true that some is

always for the affirmative and any and and any is for the negative and the

question but there are some questions where you can use some and that's when

it's something that is undoubtable for example if you go into a cafe you

presume they have coffee so you're not going to say have you got any coffee or

can I have any coffee because that's their job they have to have coffee so

you'll say can I have some coffee even if it's a question and in fact I would

say that every time you have the word can you presume that there is this this

thing that you need or you want and therefore some is perfectly correct also

if you go into a supermarket maybe at the delicatessen where you can see

everything you can say can I have some of that cheese because you see it there

there's no doubt they've got it instead if you're wondering you know you can't

see the particular ham you're looking for then you can ask have you got any of

that particular ham because it's doubtful you don't know if they have it

so any is always a demonstration of doubt and therefore can is usually used

with some but otherwise I would say that any is for questions now instead when to

use no and none we show you a document to make it easier

for you to visualize so we said that thumb is used in affirmatives there is

some coke in the fridge that's because we're saying what there is in the fridge

instead if we don't know what there is we can say there is something to drink

in the fridge but we haven't actually specified what it is so something

substitutes the word coke affirmative there is some coke in the fridge or

there is something to drink in the fridge now if we want to say a negative

sentence we'll say there isn't any coke in the fridge or there isn't anything to

drink in the fridge we can also use the verb in the affirmative and say there is

instead of there isn't but then we'll use the word no there is no Coke in the

fridge what does that mean the sentence has an affirmative verb but because

we're using the word no we've actually given it a negative meaning so there is

no Coke in the fridge is equivalent to there isn't any coke in the fridge or we

can also say there is no thing to drink in the fridge so there is nothing to

drink in the fridge now we come to the questions is there any Coke in the

fridge and he is used for questions we have three possible answers affirmative

yes there's some negative no there isn't any but we can also use the affirmative

verb and say no there is none not even one none so when we use the verb in the

affirmative there is we will then put no or none as you've seen here and of

course there's also the plural no there are none if we were

to ask a puerile question okay again we have anything so is there anything to

drink in the fridge affirmative yes there's something negative

no there isn't anything and the affirmative verb no there is nothing

because we're using an affirmative verb with a negative word which makes the

whole meaning negative so to summarize some is used for

affirmative sentences as well as some things someone somewhere somebody any is

used in the negatives and the questions as well as anything anyone anywhere

anybody and if you use a verb in the affirmative such as there is but then

you use combinations of no giving it a negative sentence you can say no nothing

no one nowhere nobody now nobody and no one have the same meaning but you'll

typically find that no one is considered to be more correct in formal writing

whilst nobody is used more often in conversation and song lyrics okay I hope

that was really useful for you if you want you can write some sentences with

some any no and none in the comments below and don't forget to subscribe and

I look forward to seeing in my next video bye

How Do You Get Yourself a Good Woman, or a Good Man? - Duration: 8:16.

How do you get yourself a good woman or a good man?

Hi, welcome to today's Little Lesson.

Today's questions are very practical and important.

If you're single and you desire to be married, the person that you do marry, I mean, that's

got to be one of the most important decisions of your life, and marriage is not something

that you'll want to enter into without a lot of forethought and some counsel when so many

marriages wind up in divorce.

Think about it.

All those people start off with the best intentions, believing that they were going to enjoy the

rest of their life together, but they were blindsided by something they didn't anticipate.

Those who are single and who would like to get married need to proceed with caution.

Now, how do you get yourself, how do you find yourself a good person, a good woman, a good

man who would make a great lifelong partner?

Well, that's a great question, and I think that I'd like to first say that rather than

looking for the right person, I would suggest being the right person because you want to

attract somebody who's a great potential spouse, the best bait that you could put out there

to attract that kind of person is being a great person yourself.

You should ask yourself, how are you doing in your other relationships?

We all have relationships.

If you don't have any relationships with other people on any level, you're like a hermit,

well, maybe you should postpone thinking about getting married if you're not getting along

too well with other people.

All the relationships that you have prior to marriage could be considered as training

ground for the ultimate relationship of having a husband or having a wife or being a husband

or being wife.

You're not getting along with your college roommate, and you're at each other's throats?

Well, see what you can learn and see what you can do to fix and repair and make that

relationship work because I think I can assure you, as a person who's been married for 38

years, as a former pastor who's counseled all kinds of people who are having trouble

in their marriage, that every marriage is challenged because when you put two people

together and one's a male and one's a female, oh my goodness, no, there's going to be some

times of stretching, some times of potential conflict, and some times of potential growth

as people.

In fact, I just feel like marriage is almost one of those divine conspiracies by the Lord

to help us to grow spiritually.

Anytime someone says "I do" in holy matrimony, it's almost like God is up in Heaven rubbing

His hands together saying, "Now, it's going to get good because I'm going to bring out

Christ in these people because they're going to have to deny themselves.

They're going to have to grow up spiritually.

Then I'm going to give them kids, and that's going to really add to the mix, and we'll

work on their patience and everything else.

They'll learn all kinds of things about each other, and they'll learn things about me,"

speaking of God.

Marriage is just a wonderful life experience, lifetime experience that has a lot of blessings,

but it doesn't mean that the road doesn't get bumpy at times.

To find the right person, start by working on being the right person and making yourself

attractive in every way that you can.

Of course, most importantly would be your character that you have.

I'm speaking to Christians now who want to find a godly spouse.

You need to be what you hope your spouse to be and work on your own relationship with

the Lord and your own character so that you'll attract someone of similar godliness and character.

Then once you feel like you're mature enough and ready enough because of your success in

other relationships, then Scripture says, "He that finds a wife finds a good thing,"

and Jesus said, "Seek, and you shall find."

I would encourage you, yeah, pray, ask the Lord, but also put some legs on those prayers.

Like I had an old Pentecostal preacher one time say, "Put legs on your prayers."

Seek, and you shall find.

He that finds a wife finds a good thing.

That implies that you have to get out there and look.

You gotta put your periscope up and utilize the means to go and be where the fish are

biting.

Pardon my expression, but you're not going to find a good wife in a dark and dirty place.

You need to look in the right places, and you need to go where there is more likelihood

that there's going to be good women and good men.

Naturally, good women and good men aren't found in bad places, so look in good places.

One of the wonderful things of modern technology are these matchmaking sites where you can

put in all these things about yourself and what you're looking for, and they try to match

you up with people of some degree of compatibility.

It gives you a low-risk way to weed through a lot of people that otherwise aren't worth

your time to find those gems.

I have seen lots of people who have used that technology, those websites.

Cost a little bit of money, but it pays off.

Like for example, I know some people who, in their questionnaire, when they're filling

out the forms, the web forms, they're asked a question.

"What's the one thing that you can not possibly live without?"

Those folks put in there, "I don't want you to match me with anybody who doesn't put Jesus

in that line right there."

Well, that just, that weeds to all kinds of people right off the bat.

"I'm looking for a solid follower of Jesus Christ," and you can weed them out a lot quicker

that way than by going to church and dating people and finally getting around to asking

them those important questions.

Then once you think you found that special person, get counsel and read some of those

books that are out there on things to talk about before you get married.

It's a lot easier to break up before you get married than after you get married.

In fact, you just don't want that to happen at all because it's harmful and hurtful on

a lot of levels, and it's sin.

This is a Little Lesson.

Hope I helped you.

If it did help you, why don't you click "like" and write a nice comment there.

That would be an encouragement to me today.

Thanks so much.

God bless.

THIS MAKES ME SO MAD | TRACY CAMPOLI | BEWARE!!!! - Duration: 5:49.

OMG!

I can't!

ARGGGG OMG, I can't, I can't even watch this anymore.

I literally cannot even.

Hey, what's up, welcome back to my channel.

It's Tracy and I'm so so glad that you're here and if you're new to my channel,

Hello, I'm Tracy and I put our brand new fitness, wellness and lifestyle video's every single

week so make sure that you subscribe to my channel and for everyone, make sure that you

click on that bell notification so you get notified every single time I have a brand

new video go live.

So first I want to start off with this video by saying I am not wearing a bathrobe, this

is a little kimono top, I actually love it but I do realize it looks like I am wearing

a bathrobe.

I swear I'm not.

I'm gonna wear this out on the streets.

Ok, so I want to dive into this topic, this is really important, let me first by saying

I am not a hater.

I am not in no way trying shade on anyone on their YouTube channel, I am in no way trying

to be a hater.

I know in social media it's so freaking easy to be a hater.

To leave hateful comments and to give thumbs down or to say not nice things on social media.

So please know that is not what I'm doing at all.

However, there's something I see and it really could be potentially harmful for a lot of

you and that's why I'm bringing it to your attention.

So I watch a lot of YouTube vlogs here on YouTube obviously.

There's a lot of girls I love to follow them whether it be makeup or lifestyle or just

people that I like on YouTube, ok.

One thing that I see an awful lot are these women showing their workouts, right?

Oh, work out with me or I'm going to teach you a workout and they are no way a certified

personal trainer, they are no way a fitness professional and this, while it's great that

it's showing you "here's how I incorporate wellness into my life" It can be a little

bit dangerous.

In the sense of it your watching these women, you're like "oh, I'm going to do their workout

based on what they're doing" a lot of them have terrible, terrible, terrible form.

Terrible form.

And could potentially hurt you, ok.

So just because you see someone that you really like, and you like her personality and you

like her style and you like whatever her vlogs are about and maybe she's got a great butt,

that's awesome.

I'm sure she probably works with a trainer or has or whatever, but just because she's

showing you like donkey kicks, it doesn't necessarily mean that's exactly what you should

be doing.

So what's potentially dangerous is that these women a lot of times are showing their workouts,

but they're really not fitness professionals.

So, if you're watching them, you're actually putting yourself at risk for doing exercises

wrong.

So, again I'm super happy that they're inspiring you, that they're motivating you to work out,

to stay consistent with your fitness, all of those things.

I think that's great, however, please...I really encourage you to stick with the professionals

when it comes to your workouts.

So, you know I obviously am not the only fitness and wellness channel here on YouTube, there's

many that are absolutely amazing alright?

Just to be really clear in case you didn't know this, I've been a certified personal

trainer for 20 years.

I was a certified pilates instructor, I've been certified life coach for 10 years and

I'm a certified holistic health coach.

so you know, anything that you're going to get on my channel is going to be tested, it's

things that I share with my clients, I've been doing this for a very very long time.

Now, I'm not just sitting here saying 'I'm the only person you should follow', no, that

is not what I'm saying at all.

But I watch enough of these videos and knowing it's the beginning part of the year and there's

a lot of these video's with people sharing their workouts.

Take it all with a grain of salt.

Look at their form, you know...let it inspire you, but then if you want to do it well, work

with a pro.

So follow the people you know are really reputable YouTube channels here, ok.

So, you've got my back high five's for you in my faux robe here, this is important enough

and I see it enough and I'm like "gosh, if I'm seeing this, you must be seeing this too"

So I wanted to share that with you.

Please leave me a comment down below, I'd love to hear your input.

Again, I'm not a hater, I don't like haters at all, that's not what I'm saying at all,

but I just think it's important that you treat your body properly and that you really avoid

injury and working with bad form and you're just doing your exercises well so that you

get more bank for your buck.

I also want to encourage you, if you're looking for a fitness plan right now, this is an awesome

TV That Makes Me Want to Read - Duration: 2:55.

Wallace here with your Monday video. Today I'm actually talking about TV

shows that make you want to read, which I know sounds silly. But I, actually TV

sometimes makes me want to read. So obviously there's Gilmore Girls and

there's a million lists about what Rory's books that she read or mentioned

or whatever or she and her grandpa read together or mentioned. Tons of Gilmore

girl lists. So that one is seven seasons worth of wanting to make you read. I'm

imagining that's on most people's lists. And now younger makes me want to read.

I actually have watched that series two times all the way through and I'm

watching it again. It's just kind of like my go-to to have in the background and I

love it. It like really makes me want to read. And I don't know what it is about

it if it's just that they are so into books and so into talking about them and

they have joy from them or they're talking about things about books that

I'm interested in or I've thought of before or they're talking about relevant

current things like book riot, smart bitches trashy books etc. and like it

feels relevant to me because it's so modern. So it could be that. I mean Liza

loves to read and she's the main character. And they'll sit there and

they'll read through something in like a night. So they actually show what real

readers are like and so I love that. And then the other one that would be like

maybe not so obvious is um the West Wing. The West Wing makes me want to read.

The West Wing makes me want to read history books, political books and current events

books like crazy. Even though it's not a current show I get that. But still like I

love how smart they are and how in the know they are and I know that obviously

you have to be to work in the White House or you should be. And it just makes

me want to be that in the know. It makes me want to know. They knew their history.

They knew these things that happen throughout history politically and it

makes me want to know that too. I don't know why. I mean, it, I just like the

character. So once I really like characters and they're doing something

that I like or I'm interested in, it makes me want to read and learn. And that

might sound completely crazy. But I'm wondering if

any of you have the same thing going on and if you have any TV shows that I

haven't mentioned that make you excited about reading. And if you do, put them

down below I'm definitely looking for something new to watch along that vein.

um You know, like, the crown actually made me want to read about the British

royalty. So that's another good one and maybe Victoria. But that's pretty much

all I've got. So do you have any that like actually focus on reading kind of

the way that like younger does that you love that I am missing? Let me know below.

Until next Monday, happy reading.

Weighted Blankets For Sleep And Anxiety: You'll Definitely Want To Try This ⚫healthcare✔️ - Duration: 2:25.

A good night's sleep doesn't just depend on where you lie down.

It's also about what you lie under.

Recent research has shown that the type of blanket you use at night can affect your quality

of sleep.

In fact, heavier blankets have shown time and again to provide more deep, peaceful sleep. How

Does It Work?

Deep touch pressure is the sensation of touch that comes from cuddling, holding & squeezing.

It's been proven as an effective therapy in helping ease anxiety and calming children

with autism.

Weighted blankets mimic this effect.

The weight stimulates pressure points around the body.

This creates an unconscious perception of safety, which promotes the release of dopamine

and serotonin.

These compounds activate the parasympathetic nervous system.

In doing so, feelings of stress, fear, and anxiety give way to relaxation and a feeling

of safety.

Other Effects.

By reducing stress and promoting sleep, weighted blankets help maintain proper memory function.

That's because sleeping strengthens memories you've formed throughout the day.

It also helps to link new memories to earlier ones .

Who Should Try It?

Weighted blankets are suitable for people with:

Bipolar disorder.

PTSD.

ADHD.

Sleep disorders.

Anxiety.

Depression.

Trauma.

Paranoia.

How To Use.

The weight of your blanket is entirely subjective.

Most adults prefer a weight of between 15 to 30 pounds.

This weight is considered safe as it does not interfere with normal vital functions.

Children and elderly adults should seek medical advice before using a weighted blanket.

Also, people suffering from respiratory, circulatory and other medical conditions should consult

a doctor before use.
