Welcome to the vitalife show I'm Doctor Janine Bowring Naturopathic Doctor and

today I'm answering a question for kimberly, so big shout out to kimberly.

She was asking about balancing blood sugar levels so this is my top seven

tips on how to treat and to lower blood glucose levels, actually how to find that

balance. So tip number one is to avoid the spikes in your blood glucose levels

how do you do that, well you want to make sure that you're watching your

carbohydrates it's always the sugars that spike your insulin levels and you

know if you're looking for weight loss we want to help to balance that so

watching those spikes and balancing our carbs throughout the day so helping to

eat with proteins with healthy fats which we're going to talk about in this

video that helps to stabilize the blood glucose levels so that you don't get

those rapid spikes and that's when the blood sugar can drop and this is when

you can not feel so well when you have low blood sugar and you're always

looking you know for your next meal so that's tip number one. Tip number two is

to avoid those spikes by eating more often by eating your food often

throughout the day I usually recommend every two to three hours you're gonna

avoid those you know dips in that blood sugar level and those spikes as well so

eat often that's tip number two. Tip number three is to eat eggs so eggs we

know great source of protein but also helping to stabilize those blood glucose

levels and keep you feeling full because that's a big you know problem when your

blood glucose is all over the place you can get hungry very easily so eggs are a

fantastic food. Tip number four avocados, now avocados have natural healthy fats

what do fats do they help to keep you full but also help to keep that insulin

level nice and steady throughout the day so incorporate some avocados into your

daily diet. Number five cinnamon so cinnamon is a

fantastic spice and what it does is it helps to also increase that ability for

your insulin to have that sensitivity and what that means is that allowing for

that glucose to get into the cells and to be used up

so it's not floating around in your bloodstream helping with that insulin

sensitivity and that's why sprinkling a little bit of cinnamon every day whether

it's you know on your foods, on your coffee even is a great way to stabilize

your blood sugar levels. Tip number six berries now berries are fantastic

because not only are they potent superfood antioxidants they contain

something called anthocyanins and what they do is they help to regulate your

insulin production so in order for us to produce good amounts of insulin we have

to make sure that we have those anthocyanins and berries are fantastic

because they're lower on the glycemic index meaning that they don't spike your

insulin levels yet you get all of that goodness from the berries and those

important protective antioxidants to fight those free radicals. So eating lots

of berries they also contain fiber which is fantastic regulating blood glucose as

well. And tip number seven exercise, everybody needs to exercise every day

this really helps with regulating your metabolism, helps to burn off that sugar

and helps to burn off that excess body weight that you may be carrying as well,

so make sure that you're exercising do something that you love, because exercise

that's a long-term commitment you've got to be doing it every day it will really

It's no secret that keeping a balanced diet and getting regular workouts and physical exercise are the most effective ways to cope with excess weight.

In addition to incorporating these good practices into your daily routine, it's important to correct some of your morning habits.

They might seem harmless, but they can actually prevent weight loss.

Although it might not be easy to notice, they interfere with your normal metabolic activity.

They also prevent you from expending optimal amounts of energy throughout the day.

This is why it's critical to learn to identify these habits and do anything possible to prevent them from becoming a part of your regular lifestyle.

Sleeping too much.

Getting less than seven hours of sleep a night has been linked to weight gain.

Research that was conducted in 2014 revealed that those who sleep more than 10 hours in a row have increases in their body mass index.

It seems that getting too much sleep also increases your cortisol levels.

This is a hormone that, in addition to causing stress, also leads to overeating.

Experts advise getting seven to eight hours of sleep a night without interruption to achieve optimal sleep quality.

Not getting enough sunlight.

This might not seem like it has anything to do with weight gain, but there are indications that sunlight helps activate metabolism early in the day.

Research has shown that UV rays in the morning are healthy.

They provide energy to the body while triggering metabolic activity.

Getting between 20 to 30 minutes of sunshine in the morning is enough to have positive effects on your body mass index.

Eating too little for breakfast.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

While some people prefer to ignore that fact, it's essential to provide your body with the energy it needs to work during the day.

Your breakfast should contain between 500 and 600 calories distributed across the following sources:.

Carbohydrates Protein Antioxidants Healthy fats Vitamins Minerals.

Waiting too long to eat breakfast.

Waiting too long to eat breakfast after you wake up can also influence weight gain.

Your body needs energy to activate its functions.

While you usually have reserves during the night, a significant amount of these are depleted.

In addition to that, your stomach feels empty and increases the production of acidic juices in response.

This can trigger inflammation and symptoms of gastritis.

That's why it's a good idea to eat within the first hour of getting out of bed.

 If possible, drink a healthy beverage like tea or lukewarm water with lemon juice.

Doing too much and in a hurry.

Although this can help you get things done on time, operating at this level on a regular basis increases feelings of anxiety.

This, in turn, affects your body weight.

Eating processed snacks.

As you can see, there are certain daily habits that affect your increase in body weight.
