Russell Wilson & the Yankees: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com

Now batting for the New York Yankees…Russell Wilson.

No, you read that right.

The Seattle Seahawks quarterback has spent some of his football offseason in Florida, suiting up with the Yankees during the early days of Spring Training after he was traded to the squad in February.

You read that right as well.

Here's everything you need to know about Wilson's career in pinstripes and his time on the diamond:.

Wilson Took an At-Bat in the Yankees Spring Training Game Against the Atlanta Braves.

  Day 3.

#SpringTraining @Yankees A post shared by Russell Wilson (@dangerusswilson) on Feb 28, 2018 at 9:11am PST.

After spending a week at Spring Training, Wilson finally got his moment at the plate – taking an at bat during the Yankees matchup against the Atlanta Braves.

Although the Yankees previously said Wilson wouldn't be playing in any games – he'd been taking batting practice and fielding with the team – early reports suggested the quarterback would come into the game late and see some live action.

He Was Traded to the Yankees in February.

The Yankees have always had a reputation for signing the biggest names in baseball, but on February 7, the Bombers brought in a player no one expected – Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.

The squad announced it acquired Wilson from the Texas Rangers in exchange for future considerations and it didn't take long for the jokes to stat rolling in.

Wilson already had experience in Spring Training – he participated in workouts as a second baseman with the Rangers in 2014 and '15 – and it didn't take long for the Yankees to announce a similar plan.

New York general manager Brian Cashman released a statement, saying:.

We've admired Russell's career from afar for quite some time. This is a unique opportunity for us to learn from an extraordinary athlete who has reached the pinnacle of his profession. After talking to a number of our players, there is a genuine excitement in having Russell join us for a short time in camp.

We are all looking forward to gaining insight into how he leads teammates toward a common goal, prepares on a daily basis for the rigors of his sport, and navigates the successes and failures of a season.

Of course, Wilson's signing with the Yankees wasn't quite as impressive as his latest deal with Seattle.

The Seahawks quarterback won't turning in his football for a baseball any time soon after his most recent contract guaranteed him $61 million, with an average annual value of $22 million.

Wilson Was a Fourth-Round Pick by the Colorado Rockies.

Russell Wilson, baseball star.

It very easily could have happened if the future Super Bowl champ had made a different decision.

Wilson, a fourth-round pick by the Rockies in 2010, was well-regarded in the baseball world after a solid career for North Carolina State.

Texas Rangers  area scout Chris Kemp told ESPN in 2014:.

I was watching batting practice, and he's laying out in center field and jumping up against the wall to catch balls. Then he's sprinting to shortstop when the groups switched and scooping up balls there.

I'd never seen anybody get after it in pregame like he did…I thought he could be a super-utility guy and be that 12th guy offensively that could play second, short and even center.

I do think he could have been a major league player.

An everyday guy? I wasn't so sure.

But I knew he could have a role on a big league team.

His work ethic was a separator.

Wilson went on to play two seasons for the Rockies' Class A affiliates – the Tri-City Dust Devils and the Asheville Tourists, posting a career batting average of .229 with five home runs, 26 RBI and 19 stolen bases.

Then, however, he made the switch to football.

He was selected by the Rangers off the Colorado roster in the December 2013 Rule 5 draft and made a pair of one-day appearances at the team's Cactus League complex in Arizona in 2014 and 2015.

Wilson told HBO's "Real Sports," he "never want to kill the dream of playing two sports," but knows it would be difficult to compete at the top level in both baseball and football.

Wilson might not have become the baseball star he could have been, but he seems pretty content with his career on the gridiron.

He Said Playing With the Yankees 'Is a Dream Come True'.

Spring Training @Yankees A post shared by Russell Wilson (@dangerusswilson) on Feb 26, 2018 at 10:19am PST.

This was no publicity stunt.

Wilson barely stopped smiling during his stint with the Yankees during Spring Training and while some naysayers may have been quick to point out he didn't belong in pinstripes, the Seahawks star has been living out his dream.

And maybe leaving a few Yankees star struck as well.

"I said, 'Hey man, did you bring a football?'," Aaron Judge told USA Today.

"He says he'll have one by the end of the week, so you might catch us out on a back field running some routes.".

Wilson didn't waste much time getting out on the field either.

He hit batting practice with the team and took grounders at second base, showcasing the kind of athleticism that helped him lead Seattle to Super Bowl glory.

Wilson has been around baseball his entire life, but he was quick to point out that he had a special spot for the Yankees saying they were "the team I loved.

The is the team I had a passion about.

To wear the Yankee cap, to put this uniform on is a dream come true.".

Of course, it's not unheard of for teams to bring in big-name stars during Spring Training.

Will Ferrell played for 10 different Cactus League teams in a single day as part of a Funny or Die skit, while other Hollywood stars like Kevin Costner, Tom Selleck and and Billy Crystal, who spent his 60th birthday with the Yankees, suited up for their favorite squads.

Wilson, however, is a bit different.

He was there for the workouts and the games as much as anything, determined to get better in a sport he's always loved.

"Some people for me, get confused: 'Is this just a stunt?' They don't know me," he told USA Today.

"If you really know me, baseball is a part of my blood.

It's part of who I am and where I come from and what I've done.".

Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll Joked About Wilson's Performance.

CHAD BOOTH: THE FIRST OHV

t="467"JAMBOREE OF 2018 IS COMING RIGHT

t="1034"UP AND TODAY ON AT

YOUR LEISURE WE'RE GIVING YOU A PREVIEW. I'M CHAD BOOTH. JOIN RIA AND ME AS WE

HIT THE TRAILS AT THIS AMAZING EVENT AND SHOW HOW YOU CAN JOIN US FOR THE ADVENTURE

IN A FEW WEEKS. THEN STEVEN HEUMANN FINDS OUT HOW A HOOK AND LADDER MAY BE YOUR

NEXT FAVORITE OFF-ROAD DESTINATION. HOW DOES THAT EVEN WORK? HE'LL SHOW YOU.

FROM THERE JORDAN WAYMENT TAKES OUT A POLARIS WITH ALL THE CREATURE COMFORTS, AND

THESE EAST COAST KIDS LEARN ABOUT WESTERN PUBLIC LANDS. AYL IS NEXT!

(Theme Music Up)

CHAD: NOW THAT'S A ROCK FORMATION I HAVEN'T SEEN BEFORE.

RIA: I THINK I KNOW WHY THEY CALL THIS TRAIL THE ENTERPRISE PINNACLE I.E.

PINNACLE

CHAD: YES I THINK THAT MIGHT BE THE CASE. HELLO EVERYBODY I AM CHAD BOOTH.

RIA: AND I'M RIA ROSSI BOOTH AND WE ARE IN BETWEEN ENTERPRISE UTAH AND HURRICANE

UTAH AND WE ARE ON THE ENTERPRISE PINNACLE TRAIL WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL

AND UNBELIEVABLY DIVERSE AS FAR AS LIKE GEOGRAPHY IT'S AMAZING.

CHAD: IF I HAD TO TAKE A GUESS I'LL GUESS THESE ARE THE PINNACLE ROCK FORMATIONS

BEHIND US BECAUSE THEY DEFINITELY ARE PINNACLES.

RIA: WE NEED A ROPE TO THROW OUT THERE SO WE CAN REPEL DOWN. YOU KNOW WHAT I

LLOVE ABOUT THIS TRAIL IS THE DIVERSITY OF IT ALL YOU KNOW WE STARTED DOWN

AND THERE'S ALL THE LITTLE JUNIPER PINIONS AND ROCKS AND VOLCANIC ROCKS IN

THE VOLCANO OVER THERE THAT WAS AMAZING AND NOW LOOK AT THIS WE HAVE THESE

PINNACLE ROCKS IT'S AMAZING I MEAN IT REALLY IS DIFFERENT, REALLY DIFFERENT

THAN SOUTHERN UTAH FOR ME.

CHAD: WELL RATHER THAN JUST SIT HERE AND TALK YOU THROUGH THIS WHOLE THING

WERE OUT WITH GREG AND DENISE THOMPSON FROM STEDMAN'S RECREATION AND THEY

KIND OF PUT THE CHALLENGE OF SAYING HEY WHY DON'T WE GO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT

SO THIS IS WAY OUT OF OUR LEAGUE WAY OUT OF OUR COMFORT ZONE SO WERE KIND OF

EXPLORING TOGETHER RATHER THAN JUST TALKING ABOUT EXPLORATION WHILE YOU COME

ALONG AND WILL FIND OUT ABOUT IT.

(Music Up)

WELL THIS TRAIL IS CALLED THE PINNACLE TRAIL IT'S IN THE ENTERPRISE RESERVOIR

AREA AND WE'VE MADE A BIG LOOP OUT OF THE MAIN ROAD FAILED TO THE ENTERPRISE

RESERVOIR AND WE MADE A BIG LOOP AND ENDED UP AT THE RESERVOIR.

WHAT'S UNIQUE ABOUT THIS RIDE IS THE FORMATION OF THE PINNACLES THEMSELVES

THEY'RE MADE OUT OF A UNIQUE KIND OF ROCK THAT'S NOT COMMON IN THIS AREA

EVERYTHING IN ST. GEORGE IS RED ROCK IN THIS AREA IS A DIFFERENT KIND OF

ROCK IT IS A DIFFERENT COLOR IT'S MORE OF A GRANITE TYPE OF FORMATION.

THERE'S LOTS OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF TERRAIN IN THIS AREA THERE IS SOME OF THE

RED ROCK FORMATIONS ONE OF THE NICEST THINGS THAT WE GET VIEWS OF DIFFERENT

AREAS AS YOU GO OVER THE TRAIL AND HAVE ACCESS TO OUTLOOKS ON MULTIPLE SIDES

OF THE MOUNTAIN RANGES HERE SO YOU GET TO SEE A LOT OF DIFFERENT TERRAIN.

IN SOUTHERN UTAH THE DESERT AREA HAS A BEAUTY ALL OF ITS OWN.

THE THING THAT I ENJOY MOST IS GETTING OUTDOORS AND RIDING MY FOUR WHEELER

AND JUST SHARING THE EXPERIENCE WITH MY WIFE AND WITH OTHERS TO.

ALRIGHT WELL YOU KNOW IF THERE'S A BOLDER ONE MUST CLIMB ON IT AND DOWN HERE

ON THIS TRIP TODAY THERE HAVE BEEN BOULDERS EVERYWHERE I HAVE BEEN WANTING

TO DO THIS ALL DAY LONG LIKE, THAT WOULD BE FUN TO CLIMB ON,

THAT WOULD BE A FUN ROCK TO CLIMB ON.

WELL YOU KNOW IT JUST CALLS TO YOU WHEN YOU'RE TRAVELING OUT HERE

I KNOW CHECK THIS OUT THERE ALMOST LIKE NATURE'S CONCRETE BECAUSE YOU'VE

GOT THE SOLID ROCK FORMATIONS AND THEIR LITTLE PEBBLES OF DIFFERENT STUFF

IN THE MIDDLE OF THEM.

SO YOU CAN GRAB ONTO THEM.

WELL WHERE YOU TURN FROM HERE AND HAD TO OUR TRAVEL ADVENTURE FOR THE WEEK

WE'RE GOING TO SPIN THE DIAL OF THE WEST AND FIND OUT EXACTLY WHERE IT POINTS.

STEVEN HEUMANN: THANKS GUYS. I'M STEVEN HEUMANN AND RIGHT NOW I AM IN

THE WILDS OF SAN JUAN COUNTY. LET ME TURN THIS OFF REAL QUICK.

THERE WE GO, AND I AM ON THE HOOK AND LADDER TRAIL.

THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL AND IMPRESSIVE AREA ANS WE'RE GOING TO SHOW IT OFF TO

YOU TODAY. IT'S GORGEOUS, LOTS OF RED ROCK, DEFINITELY UNIQUE, SO HOW ABOUT

I SHOW IT OFF TO YOU NOW.

(Music Up)

DALLIN TAIT: Hook and ladder trail is an excellent intermediate, there are

some expert lines as well, but mostly sandstone but you get a good mix of

sandstone and sand so it's perfect for all ages. It's a razer and ATV trail

only, motorcycles are okay but no jeeps. The sandstone out here is just

really grippy so you can climb hills that you wouldn't be able to climb

in the dirt.

STEVEN HEUMANN: HOOK AND LADDER TRAIL IS A COLLECTION OF ROUTES THAT SPIDER

THROUGH THE RED ROCK LANDSCAPE NORTH OF MONTICELLO UTAH RIGHT OFF HIGHWAY 191.

DALLIN TAIT, MANAGER OF FOUR CORNERS ADVENTURES OUT OF BLANDING TOOK ME OUT

TO EXPLORE WHAT IS JUST OUT OF VIEW AS YOU DRIVE PAST IN YOUR CAR.

INSTANTLY THE VIEWS COMMAND ATTENTION AS ALMOST EVERY ENVIRONMENT IMAGINABLE

CAN BE SEEN FROM DIFFERENT CORNERS OF THE TRAIL. WHITE-TIPPED MOUNTAINS

TOWER OVER A RIPPLING WORLD OF PALE STONE THAT IS SPRINKLED WITH GREEN.

BLUFFS FORM A RIDGELINE TO LOOK UP TO AND DOWN FROM, DEPENDING ON WHICH

PART OF THE TRAIL YOU TAKE. THE SCENERY IS SO IMPRESSIVE IT PUSHES

EVERYTHING ELSE OUT OF YOUR MIND, AND EVEN IF YOU COULD GET CELL PHONE

RECEPTION OUT HERE, NO CALL WOULD BE ABLE TO PULL YOU AWAY FROM THE FEAST

THAT IS BEFORE YOUR EYES.

EMMA CARPENDER: If I had forgotten my phone I wouldn't have cared.

Honestly it's in my pocket but I haven't pulled it out once.

I'd rather be doing this than staring at a screen.

STEVEN HEUMANN: LOOK AT THIS AREA RIGHT HERE. IT'S JUST A REGULAR CURVE IN

THE TRAIL BUT YOU HAVE MOUNTAINS OVER HERE AND THE VIEW ALL THE WAY TO

HIGHWAY 191 HERE AND EVERYWHERE YOU TURN ON THIS TRAIL THERE IS JUST DIFFERENT

TYPES OF TERRAIN AND DIFFERENT BEAUTY.

THE VIEW IS AS DIVERSE AS THE TERRAIN ITSELF, WHICH MOVES FROM SLICK ROCK TO

LONG STRAIGHT A-WAYS, TO DIFFICULT DROPS AND TECHNICAL SECTIONS ALL WITHIN

FIVE MINUTES. AND SINCE THERE ARE SO MANY OFF-SHOOTS YOU CAN FIND EXACTLY WHAT

YOUR AFTER AT EACH FORK IN THE ROAD. THE SYSTEM ITSELF IS VERY WELL MARKED AND

EASY TO FOLLOW, WITH SIGNS POINTING YOU TOWARD YOUR PREFERRED SKILL LEVEL

WHEREVER A SPUR BRANCHES OUT FROM THE MAIN LINE. THE ATVING MAY BE THE FOCUS

HERE AT HOOK AND LADDER, BUT THERE ARE MORE ADVENTURES AVAILABLE IN THE AREA

THAN JUST THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE SET.

DALLIN TAIT: There is a lifetime of adventure out here. We have canyoneering,

rock climbing. We do San Juan river trips down the San Juan River and that is

really unique. What makes this area unique is the archeology and rock art in

the area. Almost all of our tours focus around seeing the rock art and the

ruins that are about a thousand years old.

STEVEN HEUMANN: THE SPRING IS A PARTICULARLY GOOD TIME TO COME OUT TO THE HOOK

AND LADDER AREA, AS TEMPERATURES ARE EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE, AND THERE ARE

FEATURES THAT YOU WON'T SEE OTHER TIMES OF THE YEAR, LIKE RIVLETS OF WATER

THE CROSS THE TRAIL, DISAPPEARING OVER CLIFF EDGES AND DRIPPING OFF CANYONS

NEVER TO BE SEEN AGAIN. YOU WON'T FIND THINGS LIKE THIS IN JULY AND AUGUST.

If you haven't ridden on slick rock it's a great introduction to it.

EMMA CARPENDER: I'd say come out. I've had so much fun here just in one day.

I don't want to go back honestly. If I could stay here forever I would.

STEVEN HEUMANN: HOOK AND LADDER TRAIL IS REALLY EASY TO FIND. IT'S RIGHT OFF

HIGHWAY 191 ABOUT A HALF HOUR NORTH OF MONTICELLO. NOW MONTICELLO OFFER PLENTY

OF HOTELS AS WELL AS OTHER ACTIVITIES AND IS THE PERFECT BASECAMP IF YOU WANT

TO COME OUT AND EXPLORE THIS AREAS. AS WE'VE SHOWN YOU TODAY, HOOK AND LADDER

IS ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR, YOU NEED TO COME OUT HERE WITH YOUR FAMILY.

I'M STEVEN HEUMANN FOR AYL. WE NEED TO TAKE A COMMERCIAL BREAK AND WE'LL BE

BACK WITH OUR PRODUCT REVIEW.

(Music Up)

JORDAN WAYMENT: WELCOME BACK TO THE AYL SEASON PREMIERE.

I'M JORDAN WAYMENT AND FOR THIS WEEK'S PRODUCT REVIEW WE'RE LOOKING

AT THE POLARIS RANGER, BRAND NEW 2018, RANGER HVAC. THIS LOOKS LIKE

A LOT OF FUN SO LET'S TAKE IT OUT FOR A SPIN.

(Music Up)

JORDAN: THE FIRST THING I NOTICED WAS THAT IT WAS SO EASY TO DRIVE.

I COULD DRIVE WITH MY FINGERS, LIKE THIS,

JUST GOING OVER ROCKS AND TREES AND STUFF.

THE RANGER IS THE WORKHORSE OF THE INDUSTRY. IT HAS A THOUSAND CC MOTOR,

ELECTRONIC FUEL INJECTION AND IT'S LIQUID COOLED.

NOW ON THE FRONT END IT HAS A DOUBLE A-ARM SUSPENSION WITH COIL-OVER

SHOCKS THAT GIVE TEN INCHES OF TRAVEL.

IT'S GREAT FOR GOING OVER LOGS AND STUFF AND PERFECT FOR A DAY ON THE TRAIL.

SO ON THE BACK OF THE RANGER YOU HAVE A DUMP BED WHICH IS PRETTY

STANDARD AND YOU HAVE GRAB HANDLES ON BOTH SIDES SO YOU CAN DUMP FROM

EITHER SIDE. THE ENGINE IS 1000 CCS AND IS PRETTY STANDARD ON THE

RANGER, BUT IT CAN HAUL UP TO 1,500 POUNDS AND TOW UP TO 2000 POUNDS,

WHICH IS THE SAME AS MOST MIDSIZE TRUCKS.

NOW WHEN YOU THINK OF THE RANGER YOU THINK IT'S JUST LIKE ALL THE

OTHER RANGERS, BUT THERE ARE ACTUALLY 16 DIFFERENT MODELS, AND WHAT

MAKES THIS ONE DIFFERENT IS THE FULL ENCLOSED CAB. THIS THING IS THE

REAL DEAL. IT'S HARD PLASTIC WITH FULL TEMPERED GLASS ALL AROUND, BUT

YOU CAN'T REALLY APPRECIATE IT UNTIL YOU GET INSIDE, SO FOLLOW ME.

NOW IN HERE YOU CAN SEE IT'S REALLY ROOMY AND YOU CAN SIT SIX PEOPLE

COMFORTABLY WITH PLENTY OF LEG ROOM. THE ENTIRE THING IS COVERED

IN THIS FABRIC THAT CUTS DOWN ON THE NOISE AND THE RATTLING AND EVERYTHING.

IT'S CLIMATE CONTROLLED WITH DEFROSTER, HEAT AND COOL, THE WHOLE THING,

SO THIS IS THE PERFECT MACHINE FOR ANY TIME OF YEAR FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

WELL I HOPE THAT GETS YOU EXCITED FOR 2018. IF YOU WANT TO GET A CLOSER

LOOK AT THE NEW RANGER HEAD INTO STEADMANS RECREATION IN TOOELE WHERE

THEY CAN GET YOU TAKEN CARE OF. I'M JORDAN WAYMENT FOR AYL AND WE'LL

BE BACK WITH MORE ADVENTURE AFTER THIS.

(Music Up)

WELCOME BACK TO AT YOUR LEISURE EVERYBODY WE HAVE BEEN CRUISING AROUND OUT

HERE AND ENTERPRISE ROAD AND I TELL YOU THIS IS SO GREEN AND BEAUTIFUL I CAN'T

BELIEVE IT'S THE SAME VIEW TRAIL WE STARTED OUT ON.

OKAY SO FOR YOUR BACKSEAT BOTANIST'S WHOM ARE OUT THERE ON THE RIDE TODAY

THIS HAS ACTUALLY BEEN KIND OF FUN BECAUSE WE STARTED IN THE LOW LAND WITH

GRASSES AND COTTONWOOD TREES ALONG ALONG THE CANYON AREAS AND NOW WERE MOVING

OUR WAYS ALONG THE OPINION JUNIPER FORESTS AND SOME REALLY FRESHLY GROWN

WOBBLER NOW THE COOL THING ABOUT THIS IS THAT THIS IS A SECTION OF UTAH THAT

I'VE NEVER ACTUALLY TRAVELED BEFORE. SO IT'S A SPACE THAT'S A DIFFERENT WAY

FROM SIX ST. GEORGE TO ENTERPRISE AND I DIDN'T KNOW WAS HERE AND SO EVERY TURN

HAS JUST BEEN AN EXCITING ADVENTURE AND IT'S BEEN THE SAME WAY FOR GREG AND

DENISE WHO TRAVEL A LOT. LETS FIND OUT THEIR PERSPECTIVE FROM TRAVELING OUTSIDE

THE COMFORT ZONE.

SO WHAT ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT TODAY GREG?

NOTE NEW PLACES TO SEE WE ARE OUT HERE YESTERDAY WE FOUND SOME REALLY COOL

STUFF AND THIS IS A LITTLE DIFFERENT TRAIL TODAY AND I'M JUST EXCITED TO BE HERE.

UTAH IS A VERY DIVERSE STATE SO JUST WITH AND AROUND THIS AREA THERE ARE SO

MANY DIFFERENT THINGS TO SEE AND EXPERIENCE AND I THINK YOU CAN SEE DIFFERENT

KINDS OF GEOGRAPHY IT'S INTERESTING TO THINK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED AND WHAT

CAUSED THE FORMATION OF THIS PARTICULAR THING WHICH IS VERY DIFFERENT THAN

WE SAW YESTERDAY SO IT'S VERY INTERESTING TO THINK ABOUT WHAT WHY IS THIS

SEPARATE AND WIRE THE COLORS DIFFERENT AND I JUST THINK IT IS PRETTY INTERESTING

IF YOU WANT TO GO DIFFERENT PLACES AND EXPERIENCE NEW THINGS.

YOU KNOW IT WAS NEAT TODAY IT'S AMAZING HOW USUALLY DON'T GO THAT MUCH FURTHER

BUT THE SCENERY IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THESE ARE GOOD TIMES TO REALLY GET OUT

AND THINK ABOUT SOMETHING BESIDES WORK IN THE PRESSURES OF LIFE IT'S JUST KIND

OF NICE RELAXING COMFORTING THING TO DO.

THE RIDE ITSELF WAS QUITE EASY BUT THE LANDSCAPE WAS QUITE DIVERSE IT IS EARLY

SPRING HEARSAY KIND OF SEEING THAT EVERYTHING IS STARTING TO WAKE UP SO HE

FOCUSED A LOT ON THE ROCKS AROUND US A LOT OF YOUR EYES AND ATTENTION ARE

REALLY DRAWN TO THE ROCKS AND THE PINNACLE.

IT'S GOOD TO GET OUT AND DO DIFFERENT THINGS AND WORK ON DIFFERENT SKILLS IT'S

ALWAYS GOOD TO SEE SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND IN A DAY LIKE TODAY WE MET NEW

PEOPLE AND THAT'S ALWAYS A LOT OF FUN.

IT'S ALWAYS KIND OF FUN SPENDING A DAY ON THE TRAIL WITH YOU DON'T GET TOO

OFTEN BECAUSE YOU LEARN A LOT ABOUT THEM IT'S FUNNY HOW THINGS JUST COME UP

IN CONVERSATION WITH GREG AND DENISE. I KNOW.

AND ESPECIALLY WHEN NONE OF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE IN FOR. I THINK THAT'S THE

FUNNEST PART IS THAT IT'S NEW FOR ALL OF US. YEAH. UNTIL WE GET TO HEAR.

ACROSS THE WAY ON THE VERY FIRST SEASON OF BOAT WORLDS SOME 25 YEARS AGO WE

SHOT OUR FIRST SEASON RIGHT HERE AT ENTERPRISE RESERVOIR WITH THE PEOPLE AT

GULFSTREAM BOATS AND IF WE WERE HERE DURING THAT YEAR YOU AND I WOULD BE UNDERWATER.

SO THE ROCK WE ARE SITTING ON IT USED TO BE UNDERWATER.

YES ACTUALLY THERE USED TO BE A LITTLE LIGHT SPOT RIGHT UNDER THE SURFACE YOU

COULD ACTUALLY STICK YOUR HEAD UNDER THE WATER AND STAND ON THE ROCK.

BUT RIGHT NOW IT IS TIME FOR US TO TURN TO OUR TRAILHEAD ADVENTURE NOW PUBLIC

LANDS HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE EVER SINCE WE STARTED DOING THIS SHOW IT'S PART OF

THE REASON WE STARTED THIS PROGRAM AND WAS AND IT STILL CONTINUES TO BE AN

ISSUE TODAY.

TERRY WOOD PUBLIC LANDS. BOTH ARE OPEN TO EVERYONE,

PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND

BUT OTHER THAN THAT THE TWO DON'T INTERSECT VERY OFTEN, PARTICULARLY ON

THE EAST COAST. FOR EASTERNERS, THE PUBLIC LAND DEBATE CAN BE EXTEMELY

ABSTRACT AND DIFFICULT TO REALLY GRASP. IN A PLACE WHERE PRETTY MUCH

EVERYTHING IS PRIVATE, ARGUMENTS OVER OFF-ROAD VEHICLES, TRAIL ACCESS,

RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT, AND WILDERNESS HAVE LITTLE TO NO CONTEXT.

ONE SCHOOL PROGRAM IN VERMONT IS CHANGING THAT. EACH YEAR AN ISSUE IS

CHOSEN; ONE THAT AFFECTS THE ENTIRE NATION. STUDENTS FROM DIFFERENT

HIGH SCHOOLS THEN TRAVEL ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO PERSONALLY INTERVIEW,

STUDY, AND DOCUMENT THE PROBLEM AND IT'S VARYING SOLUTIONS.

THIS YEAR THEY CHOSE PUBLIC LANDS AND CAME TO UTAH TO GET A BETTER LOOK.

MARY SIMONS get them to think beyond the world that

The goal is just to

they're in at 14, 15, 16 and just start thinking about issues that really

are real and happening. It gives us a reason to listen to people and

learn about the area.

EVA KAMMAN but I was pretty open-minded when I came.

I read some articles

TERRY WOOD THE TRIP HAS BEEN EYE-OPENING.

FOR THESE TEENAGERS

IT'S HARD TO GRASP THE VASTNESS OF THE WEST FROM PHOTOGRAPHS AND

DESCRIPTIONS, OR DISCOVER THE IMPACT OF WILDERNESS AREAS AND LAND

CLOSURE ON RURAL COMMUNITIES FROM THOUSANDS OF MILES AWAY.

EACH STUDENT INTERVIEWS INDIVIDUALS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ISSUE,

FROM COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AND PUBLIC OFFICIALS, TO REPRESENTATIVES OF

THE BLUE RIBBON COALITION AND THE SOUTHERN UTAH WILDERNESS ALLIANCE.

FROM THERE THEY TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS AND VIDEO, EDIT THEM TOGETHER AND

TELL A STORY ABOUT THE CONFLICTS FROM THEIR OWN UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE.

THE SCALE OF SOME OF THESE ISSUES, AND THEIR DIVERSITY, TOOK SOME OF

THE STUDENTS OFF-GUARD.

EVA KAMMAN that surprised because in a place as

Honestly I wasn't

gigantic as this there are going to be some issues, but there were more

than I expected.

LEROY DILL-HALL the information I was aware that there

After reading

was a lot of conflict and definitely it's a hard topic to deal with.

ALAHANA WRIGHT fix everything. There's no simple fix

you can't just

for anything, and I understand it's difficult and you can't just, everyone

needs natural recourses and oil and what not. Everyone needs power and

energy, so it's difficult to work around.

MARY SIMONS really comes away thinking this is right and

No student ever

this is wrong, this is how it should be, because they are such big topics.

TERRY WOOD ARE ONLY PART OF THE PROGRAM'S PURPOSE.

THE ISSUES THEMSELVES

TAKING KIDS OUT OF THEIR NORMAL ENVIRONMENT AND INTRODUCING THEM TO THE

WIDER WORLD CAN HAVE A POWERFUL IMPACT NOT ONLY ON HOW THEY SEE THE

BEAUTY OF DIFFERENT LANDSCAPES, BUT IN UNDERSTANDING CULTURAL

DIFFERENCES EVEN IN OUR OWN COUNTRY.

MASON SAWYER how willing some poeple were to talk

I was surprised by

to us and how others avoided us. And then I was also surprised by the

landscape and how drastically it changes in such a short amount of

time driving through the state.

LEROY DILL-HALL beautiful. I think it looks like another planet.

I think it's

EVA KAMMAN hotter. A lot hotter.

It's a lot bigger and

But the landscape is beautiful. It is in Vermont too but this is

so different and colorful than Vermont.

TERRY WOOD IMMENSE ISSUE WITH NUANCES AND

PUBLIC LANDS IS AN

ARGUMENTS STRETCHING THE ENTIRE POLITICAL SPECTRUM.

THESE TEENAGERS NOW HAVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING NOT ONLY OF WHAT

THE CONTENTION IS ALL ABOUT, BUT WHAT IS AT STAKE AS WELL.

THEIR FINAL PROJECTS MAY JUST REVEAL IDEAS ON HOW THE NEXT

GENERATION WILL ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS.

MARY SIMONS their shorts on the road, so in the

They'll finish up

next four days they'll finish editing and all the production stuff,

and then when we get back, last year we just showed them at a

theater and just invited enyone who wanted to come.

EVA KAMMAN short about is the idea that it's

What I'm making my

up to the younger generation. It's going to be their problem, so

I'm doing my short about that.

MASON SAWYER see my short and will obviously

I hope that they'll

want to visit, and want to visit with an open mind.

TERRY WOOD COULD HELP CHANGE THE PUBLIC

Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr.

Seuss.

Today is the birthday of Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr.

Seuss, who is one of the best-known and most-celebrated children's authors of all time.

During his lifetime and beyond, Dr.

Seuss delighted, charmed and thrilled children with his colorful characters such as "Thing 1" and "Thing 2" from "The Cat in the Hat" to "Sam I Am" from "Green Eggs and Ham." At the time, young readers may not have been aware of it, but they were learning how to read, count and identify colors.

They were learning basic problem solving skills, and even the concept of rhyming.

Seuss delighted children and adults alike with his quirky, imaginative plots, lovable characters and enjoyable storylines.

Some of his books even addressed conflict on a very basic level, such as in "The Butter Battle Book" and even environmental conservation in "The Lorax.".

While Dr.

Seuss died in 1991, his legacy lives on, and his books are as popular as they always were, delighting children and teaching some very important, however basic, life lessons.

Here's what you need to know about Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr.

Seuss.

Quick, Henry, The Flit! Geisel Gained National Attention When He Won An Advertising Campaign.

Wikimedia CommonsTheodor Geisel, Dr.

Seuss.

On March 2, 1904, Theodor Seuss Geisel in Springfield, Massachusetts.

He attended area schools in Springfield before deciding on Dartmouth in 1925.

After completing his bachelor's degree at Dartmouth, he went to Oxford and later the Sorbonne in pursuit of a doctorate in literature.

After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1925, he went to Oxford University, intending to earn an advanced degree in literature.

While studying at Oxford, he met and fell in love with Helen Palmer.

It is rumored that Helen was a classmate of Geisel's, and she often teased him, complimenting him on a flying cow he was sketching.

In 1927, Geisel made Helen his bride, and the two of them returned to the U.S.

Geisel spent this time working as a cartoonist, and his drawings appeared in various magazines and newspapers.

Eventually, Geisel won a contest for the best advertising campaign for an insecticide, Flit.

Geisel came up with "quick, Henry, the Flit!" which caught on quickly.

People began to take notice of the creative and quirky Geisel who had a way with words and could come up with amusing sketches to match.

Geisel and Helen were on a pleasure cruise in 1936 when Geisel became inspired to write his first children's book.

The ship's engine had a certain rhythm to it that helped Geisel develop the cadence to his famed "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street.".

Finding a publisher for his first book was far from easy.

Geisel took his manuscript to 30 different publishers, each of whom rejected it.

Undeterred, eventually, Geisel made his way to Vanguard Press, who decided to give him a chance.

"And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street" was finally published in 1937.

Geisel did attempt to write a few books for adults, but they were not well received.

Geisel eventually stated that "adults are absolute children, and to hell with them." Geisel decided to continue writing under his pen name, and focused on exclusively writing children's books.

Geisel respected children, enjoyed spending time with them, and loved writing books that would educate children and help them to understand simple life lessons.

Parents also enjoyed reading books written by the great Dr.

Seuss; the characters are lively and funny, the rhyme scheme is enjoyable, the drawings are fun, and the endings are always satisfying.

Geisel, as Dr.

Seuss, made reading before bed an activity that both children and parents looked forward to.

Geisel was called into service during World War II, though not in the traditional sense.

"During World War II, Geisel joined the Army and was sent to Hollywood where he wrote documentaries for the military.

During this time, he also created a cartoon called Gerald McBoing-Boing which won him an Oscar," explains the NEA.

"In May of 1954, Life published a report on illiteracy among schoolchildren, suggesting that children were having trouble reading because their books were boring.

This problem inspired Geisel's publisher, prompting him to send Geisel a list of 400 words he felt were important for children to learn.

The publisher asked Geisel to cut the list to 250 words and use them to write an entertaining children's book.

Nine months later, Geisel, using 225 of the words given to him, published The Cat in the Hat, which brought instant success," NEA explains.

Geisel took a challenging assignment and mastered it, and the outcome was one of the most beloved children's books of all time.

Seussville describes "The Cat in the Hat" as follows:.

"Join the Cat in the Hat as he makes learning to read a joy! It's a rainy day and Dick and Sally can't find anything to do.

until the Cat in the Hat unexpectedly appears and turns their dreary afternoon into a fun-filled extravaganza! This beloved Beginner Book by Dr.

Seuss, which also features timeless Dr.

Seuss characters such as Fish and Thing 1 and Thing 2, is fun to read aloud and easy to read alone.

Written using 236 different words that any first or second grader can read, it's a fixture in home and school libraries and a favorite among parents, beginning readers, teachers, and librarians.

Originally created by Dr.

Seuss, Beginner Books encourage children to read all by themselves, with simple words and illustrations that give clues to their meaning.".

Retelling a Classic Tale: How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

Getty ImagesA group reading "The Cat In The Hat".

In 1957, Geisel published one of his most famous books, "How The Grinch Stole Christmas." Perhaps a take on the classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge in Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," a miserly grinch threatens to take away Christmas from the good, less fortunate people of the town.

"How The Grinch Stole Christmas," while still being a children's book, addresses issues like poverty, generosity, the haves and have-nots.

The villainous grinch is shown to even have a heart, which of course grows in size when the joy of Christmas is shared with him.

Through his books, Geisel teaches children much more than just how to read and count to ten.

He teaches basic lessons about generosity, empathy and forgiveness, and the importance of being kind to others.

He manages to do this while maintaining humor throughout, and always ends on a happy note, delighting young children.

When Should I Change My Vehicle's Brakes? - Duration: 3:38.

[Mechanical SFX]

Hey everybody! John here from O'Reilly Auto Parts. Today I want to help you

answer the question, "When should I change my brakes?" Because keeping your brake

system healthy keeps you and your family safe. There are actually several

different factors that determine how quickly brake pads wear out. The type of

vehicle, type of use, and the type of pads, all make a difference. There are a few

common signs that you should pay attention to that may indicate a problem

with your brake system. It could be that you've noticed that your vehicle just

doesn't stop like it used to. And if you're noticing any of the following

symptoms, take a closer look or if you're not completely comfortable diagnosing

the problem yourself we would be happy to refer you to a professional

technician who can diagnose any brake issue that you may be having. The first

warning sign to pay attention to is squealing. Your brakes should really

operate with very little to no noise at all. Brake pads have wear indicators that

are designed to cause squealing when they're worn down. Be sure to have them

checked before the squealing sound turns into a grinding sound. Another problem

you may experience is your vehicle pulling to one side or your steering

wheel shuttering side to side when you brake. The issue can be a seized or

hanging caliper, rotor thickness, or warped rotors. These conditions can cause

noise, excessive wear, and poor braking. It's also possible that you find

yourself having to push your brake pedal almost all the way to the floor before

your brakes engage. That's usually a sign of brake fluid leakage or a bad master

cylinder. It could also mean that your rear brake shoes need adjustment. Maybe

your brake pedal requires extreme pressure to make the vehicle stop. It

could be trouble with your brake booster or damaged brake linings. Finally, if you

see the brake warning light on your dash come on, you need to inspect your brake

system or have it inspected as soon as possible. All right, having said all that, if

you've decided to go ahead and take a look at your own brake pads, here's a

quick rundown of what you might find and what it all means.

Here is what normal pads should look like. Even on both sides

without being worn down. In comparison, these pads are also showing even wear

but need to be replaced. The minimum thickness allowed for pads to pass

inspection is 1/16 of an inch of friction material. The tapered wear on

this set of pads indicates worn-out caliper bushings

and/or worn caliper hardware. You can see this pair is only worn on one side which

means a faulty caliper or a caliper piston hanging. It can also indicate a

caliper slide not functioning. The grooved surface wear on these pads

indicates that the rotors should be turned or replaced. The chip surface of

these pads indicates excessive heat buildup. A caliper piston is hanging up

and creating constant friction. If you see a step like this in the pads, they're

not in full contact with the rotor. You'll likely need to replace the guide

pins and/or mounting bolt bushings. Lastly, the cracked surface wear on these

pads is a result of excessive heat buildup. The caliper or caliper piston is

hanging up creating constant friction. Not only do brake pads have a proper

thickness and wear, brake rotors also have a minimum thickness that's

necessary in order for them to function properly.

Many O'Reilly Auto Parts stores can measure your rotor thickness and

resurface rotors if needed. If you discover that you need new brake pads,

rotors, or hardware, you can find everything that you need at your local

O'Reilly Auto Parts Store or OReillyAuto.com.

MARINA KAYE - SOMETHING - GSINGING COVER (ACAPELLA) - Duration: 3:22.

Sanity, where have you gone ? You leave at night, return at dawn

I fall from grace, here in the dark Soon I dive into a work of art

I kissed somebody, I don't know her name My baby saw me, but I felt no shame

I start to fight with anyone who's in Hurt everybody but I feel no pain

I just wanna feel something I just wanna feel something

Hear me now, laugh with the crowd But inside the silence screaming loud

Touch me now, my body is warm But inside, I'm frozen to the bone

I heard somebody's tryna crush the cold But I'm not sorry for the hearts I stole

I wish I could give you tears from my eyes But it seems that I've forgotten how to cry

I just wanna feel something I just wanna feel something

I'm drinking until I'm drunk I'm sinking until I'm sunk

But nothing I do, nothing I do seems to fill me

I'm bleeding but I'm still numb I'm wasted but I still run

Run right into, run right into What might kill me

Just to feel something I just wanna feel something

Just to feel something I just wanna feel something

Sanity, where have you gone ? You leave at night, return at dawn

Scholarships–Everything You Need to Know - Duration: 2:56.

Definitely start working with your academics early on. It will follow you.

Oh my gosh, you made it sound so scary!

There's money available for students who come from different academic backgrounds

and life experiences. You automatically get considered for merit-based

scholarships just by applying, there's no additional application. Merit-based means

that it is based on your academic profile in high school. Class rank, if

your school ranks, class rigor, what type of courses you've taken. Test

scores, GPA, pretty much anything that could go into your academic profile as a

whole. Our mission is to recruit the best and the brightest students and you can't

just tell that from a test score or GPA. That's why we have the personal

statement. They can already see what your academics are. In that personal statement

you have the opportunity to talk about the other side of things. We have an

awesome admissions website that provides an overview of all the scholarships we

offer for both in-state and out-of-state students. You can filter by in-state,

out-of-state, diversity, transfer--as long as you click the right filters you'll

see what opportunities are available. Test scores are important. We encourage

high school juniors to take the ACT. It's definitely encouraged to take it more

than once. You learn how the test works, you're gonna understand how to

manage your time and hopefully get a better score. If you get a lower score,

don't worry, we're not even gonna look at it, we're gonna toss it aside. If you do

get a higher score, you automatically get re-evaluated for any scholarships. Even

if you're like, I'm gonna take it again, I think that I'm gonna do better the next

time--please, please, please submit your initial scores anyways. You have until

February to submit ACT scores for scholarship consideration.

We award scholarships on a rolling basis. Once we start awarding scholarships,

which is usually in September of your senior year, we continue to review

students every single week. Check your email,

check your MyRed, check your mailbox. You also should receive a letter from the

Office of Admissions or the office of scholarship and financial aid. That's what I was

gonna say--we hand package those letters and with love! Like the fact that you

made it this far, you are doing excellent. Just educating yourself and the first

place to do that is our office. It's super easy, we're not scary, I don't know

I think we're pretty nice. The sooner you apply, the earlier you

can find out about potential awards you might receive. If I don't do it early, I'm

gonna procrastinate. Call us--we are always here to help you in any way shape

or form. Another common question I get are scholarships stackable. Like, are you

able to get multiple scholarships. Merit-based you will only be able to

receive one, but we will stack any leadership/diversity on top of your

merit-based. Say you have a merit-based one of 3,500 and then you get a leadership

and diversity one of 3,000. We will add that on top of the 3,500--you have $6,500

worth in scholarships now.

Place A Few Leaves Of This Plant In Every Corner Of Your House And You Will Never See A Single Cockr - Duration: 2:55.

place a few leaves of this plant in every corner of your house and you will

never see a single cockroach again we all know that nobody likes cockroaches

they are nasty insects and everyone is scared of them you can find these

annoying insects everywhere did you know that they are one of the most resistant

species on the planet because they support high levels of radiation and can

survive without food for more than a month cockroaches are omnivores which

means that they can eat both plant foods or other animals well this is probably

the main reason why we can find and see these annoying bugs everywhere yes

cockroaches eat anything they can find cockroaches leave chemical traces

through their stool in this way they can easily find sources of water or food

that is how they communicate don't worry guys because in this video we are going

to show you the best and most effective way to get rid of these annoying bugs

yes you should get rid of roaches which are not your friends they carry

dysentery and they eat your food books and clothing they also leave droppings

lovely as we said cockroaches live everywhere in houses apartments trailers

and TVs roaches can squeeze through cracks the thickness of a quarter and

live a month without food they enter your home in bags boxes and even

underneath doors we highly recommend using this trick especially if you have

small children or pets because you will avoid industrial and dangerous poisons

the most powerful cockroaches repellent bay leaves did you know that bay leaves

are the best natural cockroach repellent don't get us wrong this powerful herb

can't kill them but if you crush these leaves a little bit the essential oils

come out of the leaves with strong fragrance in case you keep these crushed

leaves at your shelf corners or tuck in vent cushions the roaches will

immediately run away from that place this smell doesn't kill the roaches but

helps remove them from your rooms and make sure you place 10 bay leaves in the

garden or in the kitchen and you will never see cockroaches roaming around

they are perfect for the areas where food is stored such as your kitchen or

pantry because they are safe and non-toxic

we also suggest putting bay leaves in your garden especially if you have a pet

this way you will get rid of cockroaches without worrying about your kids or pets

safety note the experts say that you can use fresh or dried bay leaves and as we

said the best way to use these leaves is to crush the dry leaves and make a

powder they release a much stronger smell used this way we really hope you

find this video helpful and don't forget to share it with your friends and family

thank you

Belief & Doubt: "Doubt Is Life's Way of Signaling That You Need Something." - Adam's Story - Duration: 3:55.

The Adam Miller definition of doubt...

I think doubt is just an ordinary thing

I think it's just a normal part of being a human being,

the way that breathing is part of being

a human being.

it's life's way of signaling that you

need something.

I'm Adam Miller, the author of "Letters to A Young Mormon."

I think what qualifies me

to talk about faith and doubt

is, on the one hand, personal experience

with trying to live a life that's faithful but that also

includes doubt as a normal part

of that faithful experience.

Well, doubt can go wrong.

It can go bad. It can curdle and turn black.

and be dangerous in that respect

like any kind of human hunger.

But, I think it's a mistake to, in general,

pathologize doubt

as in itself a problem

when it's just a normal part of being human...

of being a human being.

I was at a conference and I had lunch with a friend

and we had a long talk at lunch about

how he intended to leave the Church

and that he just

didn't believe it anymore.

And what all of his problems and concerns were.

That conversation left me that day with a kind of hole inside

because, it was obvious to me

that I was already deeply familiar with all of the problems and

concerns that he had.

And I had them, too. Right? I shared them.

I shared those,

I shared those problems and questions and concerns

And so, I spent a lot of time that night on my knees in my hotel room

in the dark,

kind of wrestling with what, if anything, was different then

for me than it was for him.

Eventually I reached that point in my ongoing prayer

where... you give up.

Where you surrender and you turn it over to God.

I acknowledged to God that I couldn't be responsible for many

of the things that I was trying to be responsible for.

Right? That if God wanted to exist...

that's His business.

I can't make him exist or not.

And that moment of surrender came for me

with an immense feeling of relief.

That these were not the kinds of things that were my responsibility

and, that what it would mean to trust God

would be to trust Him with His own existence.

If He wants to exist, He's going to have to do it.

And what, on my end, is required is instead

something...much more modest.

Something much more practical.

That what would be required on my end would not be to guarantee

that all of those things were true.

But, that what would be required on my end

would be to keep the promises that I've made, regardless.

to show up on Sunday,

to do my home teaching,

to have Family Home Evening,

to go to the temple,

to be faithful to my wife.

Right? That's my responsibility. That's what I promised.

And my intention is... my intention is to keep that promise.

And if the other half of the promise is kept?

That's not my business, that's not up to me.

God will have to make good on the rest.
