Hello, and welcome to another episode of Will It Waffle,

I'm your host, Jackson Bird, and today

we are celebrating hitting 50,000 subscribers

on this channel by waffling 50,000 rainbow sprinkles.

So a lot has happened, since the last episode

of Will It Waffle.

The show itself turned four years old,

it got some love on the PatreCon stage.

Will It Waffle, that jingle's gonna be stuck in your head

all day, by the way, sorry.

Not a cooking show, not a science show,

barely a comedy show.

It's just me throwing random things on a waffle iron

to see what happens.

For some reason, it worked.

Eddie Redmayne gave it a shoutout, which is wild to me.

- Also, I wanted to say, I'm friends with Jackson Bird.

- No, shut up!

- Yes!

- How is he doing?

- Yeah, he's great!

- How about that thing when he does all

the waffle everything?

- Oh yeah, Will It Waffle, you know.

- He just waffles stuff.

(Tessa laughs)

- And it's really addictive to watch.

You go down a sort of waffle hole.

(Tessa laughs)

Wow, does that waffle?

- And there is now brand new Will It Waffle merch.

So Will It Waffle lapel pins, magnets, and buttons

are still available like usual, in my DFTBA shop,

link in this card here, or down in the description box.

But I also now have pillows!

Double-sided, happy or sad waffle pillows.

The pillows are available in my new Teespring store,

which you should be able to see

a shelf displaying that right beneath this video.

We'll see if that works.

If it doesn't, there's a link

in the description box to that as well.

I can't believe how long it's taken me

to think of double-sided pillows,

will it or will it not waffle pillows.

But, I love them, and I can't wait to own one myself,

I hope you want to as well, so go to all those links,

and check out the brand new Will It Waffle merch.

More merch is to come, but for now, please enjoy that,

and I do just want to take a minute to say thank you all,

for helping me get to 50,000 subscribers.

When I hit that milestone, all of you said you wanted to see

another episode of Will It Waffle,

so here we are, doing that.

But also, I want to give back to you a little bit more,

and also do a 50,000 dollar celebratory giveaway.

But you gotta keep watching to the end of the episode

to get details on how to apply for that giveaway.

Now, more than half of you have subscribed to this channel

since the last episode of Will It Waffle,

so this might seem kinda weird,

or out of place to some of you.

If it does, I encourage you to check out

some previous episodes, link right there,

to see what all of this is about.

Or just keep watching because we are gonna

get started right now.

(cheerful music)

So why sprinkles?

Well, because I was really determined to waffle

50,000 of something, one to represent each of you.

That was so cheesy.

I was really determined to waffle 50,000 of something,

and this was about the only thing that I could think of,

that would actually fit on a waffle iron.

Now, why rainbow sprinkles?

Because they're the gay ones.

And now, technically, I do want to point out

that these are nonpareils.

They are the spherical, circular ones,

not the dashes that some people call jimmies.

I was told by someone called IsabelleSmith97 on Twitter

that in Australia apparently sprinkles

are called hundreds and thousands,

which I think is just even more appropriate

for a 50,000 subscriber celebration.

I'm not sure if those are the jimmies or the nonpareils.

Also, can we talk about the fact

that these are pronounced nonpareils, apparently?

I took French, and I would call them

nonpareils, I don't know, something like...

Not nonpareil, but I fact-checked it.

That's how you pronounce it, apparently.

So part of the reason that I'm using nonpareils,

they are smaller, so I can definitely

get 50,000 of these on a waffle iron.

But also, because when I was trying to look up

how much is 50,000 sprinkles, I found a website that

I think was teaching math or something.

They had counted out a thousand of them,

and then used math to calculate 50,000 of them.

So 50,000 nonpareils is really just one cup,

which can totally fit on that waffle iron, I think.

Now that I'm here, and looking at them...

Well, you know what, we're gonna find out.

Will 50,000 rainbow sprinkles waffle?

50,000 sprinkles.

This is a lot, and they're getting everywhere.

Oh god, okay.

50,000 sprinkles!

Oh, a lot of these are not making it on the waffle iron.

Yeah, let's just pour some extras on there,

to count for the ones that went everywhere.

Oh, we're gonna be finding these until we move.

Ooh, can you hear them sizzling already?

Will 50,000 rainbow sprinkles waffle?

It does look fun in there.

Oh, look there is something leftover,

I think from candy canes, this time last year,

is boiling on the exterior of the waffle iron.

Every now and then, one of them jumps ship.

It's starting to steam a little bit, as they are...

Oh, did you see some of those pop off?

They're starting to congeal together back here,

and you can see they're kinda moving inside the iron.

It's definitely baking into a waffle, right there.

I'm gonna presume that's happening on the rest of the iron.

We'll still give it a while, because maybe that'll happen

with the rest of it, that'd be fun to see.

I mean I suppose one thing is that

sprinkles are traditionally something that you add

to a baked item after it's cooled down.

You don't ever put sprinkles on before you cook it,

unless in Funfetti, I guess Funfetti cake you might do that.

Every now and then, it just like spits some out of the iron.

It's like, no!

My iron is rejecting me!

After all these years, it's finally like, no,

no more of this, this is not a waffle, get it off of me.

What is that thick nasty bugger that just showed up there?

Oh, gross, that looks pretty gross!

Yeah, you can see it's sort of forming in there too.

Okay, so I can tell that there's still a lot

at the front that has not waffled,

but I can also tell there's a lot going on in there,

and I don't know how much more we're gonna get.

So I think I'm just gonna see what happened.

Will 50,000 rainbow sprinkles waffle?

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, woah, what?

That was not what I was anticipating!

That's not what I expected, oh but it's...

I don't want it to break.

Oh!

Like that, exactly like that.

Oh, it broke in half, look at that!

Okay, this is pretty wild.

And they're still all bouncing off in there too.

It's like popcorn.

That looks pretty cool.

I mean, this part of it looks monstrous.

That doesn't look appetizing,

but the parts that didn't completely discolor

and just turned into a waffle look so cool.

Alright, so this is what we're looking at.

It's like a Choco Taco.

I mean, it's just falling apart everywhere,

but that's what you'd expect with sprinkles.

Oh my gosh, these sprinkles are like glitter,

I'm gonna find them everywhere.

Oh my god, I just realized that, this is as bad as glitter.

This is as bad as glitter.

I suppose I should try a bite of this.

(crunching)

Just tastes like very warm sprinkles.

Alright, the initial taste is not great.

It's, you know, like, you know, the cinnamon challenge?

Like if you have too much of a good thing

in one concentrated dose like that, it's not great.

That's kinda how it tastes at first,

but the aftertaste is just like normal sprinkles.

And I wouldn't say I'm enjoying this experience.

Well, that was something!

I would not recommend it, as like, a snack,

but as a cool science experiment, it was pretty fun.

I would say that sprinkles waffled better than expected.

Kinda thought they were just gonna melt.

Don't know that they're a fine delicacy I'd be recommending,

but hey, in terms of turning into a waffle shape,

yeah, sure, whatever, 50,000 rainbow sprinkles waffled.

(upbeat music)

Oh wow, boy, I tell you, everyone's always so concerned

with how I'm gonna clean the waffle iron,

but that's gonna be easy compared to getting

all of these sprinkles off of my counter

and my kitchen floor and everywhere that they just...

They just wouldn't stay.

You touch them and they go everywhere.

(sigh) Wow.

Thank you to all of these people

who recommended that I waffle sprinkles,

whether in response to my 50,000 subscriber celebration

or in the past, before that.

I don't want to jinx it, though.

10 Winter Hair Hacks You Need to Know - Duration: 9:31.

hi guys welcome back to my channel if you are new hello hello if you are

returning thank you love you forever yes today we are going to talk about 10

hacks for beautiful hair in the winter I really wanted to do seasonal haircare

because it gets real hard in the winter to maintain good looking hair everything

works against us the wardrobe the hats the weather first of all I wanted to say

huge thank you to Pantene for collaborating and sponsoring this video

now let's move to our first tack this is a very important one all year round but

for winter especially and you'll be surprised how many people don't do this

we are talking about conditioner you guys there's a big big percentage of

people that don't use a conditioner it makes me feel uncomfortable this is the

Pantene pro-v the repair and protect conditioner this is my big guns this is

what I add to my hair care routine in the winter to make sure that I battle

all the factors that are going against me I live in Canada and God knows our

winter are so aggressive so making sure that I use a conditioner is especially

important my number one enemy in the winter is static and static is caused by

lack of moisture because of the factor is outside and inside so outside we're

fighting the harsh cold winter weather and inside were fighting with the

overheating trying to keep our bodies warm that sucks all the moisture and

humidity out of our hair by using my conditioner I'm making sure that I

supply my hair with as much moisture that I can it helps make sure that my

hair is smooth and the static is a not an issue I have lots of hair so when I

take off my hat and that's that comes in there's just so much going on

and it actually ruins my mood because I've been working so hard on making this

hair look good and then I get to the party I get to my event I take off that

freakin hat and tada another trick that I like to do with the conditioner is to

actually do a little treatment with the conditioner so the conditioner acts like

a hair mask while you shave and do other things let that conditioner sit in wrap

your head and just let it all soak with the humidity and the warmth and the

shower it would actually do a much better job and really getting it all and

that's something I've been doing for years and I absolutely love that little

hack and hopefully that's something you can start doing tip number two is using

this beautiful soft silk pillowcase this is such an amazing way to make sure that

you are not causing any friction on your hair and make sure that we are void

breakage and split ends keeping with our silk team here my newest obsession our

silks crunches crunches are all the rage right now as it is and that's what I use

at night to make sure that I keep my hair away from my face to avoid all the

pulling and tugging at it while I move around at night and because it's silk

and make sure that it doesn't pull and doesn't do any damage

tip number three is for all the dry shampoo lovers out there it's one of my

all-time weapons to make myself feel better dry shampoo yay I recommend to

actually use dry shampoo the 90 for it will make sure that the dry shampoo

soaks into your hair better and take away all the oils that make your hair

looks dirty tip number four if you are using any styling product keep the

product towards the end of your hair and not so much in the roots that way it

won't weigh down your hair and again it will make sure that your sculpt and your

roots are clean and you don't have to wash your hair often to avoid breakage

and dryness tip number five very important any time any season is to

brush your hair starting from the ends upwards that way we making sure that any

tangled hair we're slowly and gently brush it out and then we can go up that

will make sure that we don't pull on the hair and don't promote any breakage this

is something to keep in mind when you brush your hair on dry hair but

especially when it's wet because when the hair is wet it's actually more prone

to breakage especially in the winter months starting from the bottom and then

you're here talking about how to make sure that our hair is healthy shiny

beautiful from the inside it's all about the diet you guys for hair specifically

we want to focus on having the right amount of proteins in our diet so any

fish eggs chicken if you are vegetarian or vegan there are legumes nuts beans

protein is a very important building block for the hair the next vitamin that

we want to make sure we're getting an alpha is vitamin C vitamin C is an

antioxidant that is used by the body to help produce collagen collagen is very

important for our hair for our skin or nails great sources of vitamin C you'll

find in blueberries in broccoli sweet potato Orange strawberries so make sure

to include that in your diet and last but not least our Omega threes this is

something that the body cannot produce so we have to make sure that we provided

through our diet Omega 3 can be found in salmon sardines

some vegetarian sources are avocados some concedes and walnuts

nuts are amazing amazing sources of omega-3s and other vitamins that are

pretty crucial for beautiful hair and skin keeping with the team of bringing

all the beauty from the inside is supplements a lot of people take a lot

of unnecessary supplements so I'm going to keep this category focusing on the

ones that I truly believe in and love and consume myself so the first

supplement is collagen collagen is very important to strengthen hair and its

elasticity and improves overall quality I'll use it in my teas I use it in my

smoothies the other supplement it's fish oil if you are looking for a vegetarian

or vegan option there's also algae oil we again are

looking for those Omega they will make sure to supply the body

all the right fats to keep this all going strong and also it actually helps

with preventing dry and flaky scalp which I know a lot of us deal with in

the winter especially tip number eight is don't blow dry on wet hair this is

something that I actually unconsciously been doing I let my hair air dry on its

own until it's about 50 or 60 percent dry and then a blow dry I was actually

doing it because it was too lazy or I started doing something and then I

forget to blow-dry but after a little bit of research actually found that it

helps quite a bit to make sure that you don't dry your hair too much you are not

making it more brittle all of that helps with avoiding an unnecessary breakage if

you are at home you have a little extra time let your hair air-dry on its own

for as long as you can and then you can go with your blow-dry over it wet hair

is more prone to breakage so we want to avoid that tip number nine is to make

sure you are not taking really really hot showers and I know that a lot of us

do that especially in the winter it's super cold outside you want to make sure

that you are warm and fuzzy and feel nice in the shower so we really crank

that heat up not only is it gonna promote dry scalp dryness for your hair

it will also dry your body so try to find a temperature that is warm enough

but not too warm something you can handle and still make it an enjoyable

shower and then the last tip is something and that is a very much

recommended during winter months and that's using a humidifier I have one in

every corner of my house and in the winter we're already dealing with such

dry weather such harsh conditions that we want to make sure that we supply our

skin and our hair with enough humidity to avoid that dryness and static that

is our enemy in the wintertime and then I have a little extra hack so something

that I started doing when I'll go out and I'll put a hat on but I want to make

sure that my hair is not gonna look like this after I take off the Hat is to

actually take parts like the upper parts of my hair and I'll put it in the other

directions like this it looks a little crazy but there's there's there's a

reason for it all and then I'll put my hat on and then when I take my hat off

because it's been kind of pushing on to the opposite side when I'll take those

pieces back it looks a little more luscious and has a little more volume

now this can get a little tricky if you have really really long hair or if you

got your hair styled but this is something that I do and it actually

helps the only thing is you might have to go to the bathroom once you take off

the hat to just make sure that it doesn't look like mess but this is just

like a little something-something for you and this is it you guys I hope you

enjoyed this video I hope I provided some tools for you and Hanks that can

help you battle this crazy winter that's coming our way

thank you guys so much for watching and I will see you next

The 7-Minute Workout - Duration: 2:12.

> So what is the 7-minute workout, because it sounds like a dream. > it's a dream ! But

it's not so easy by the way -- okay -- it's using the concept of a Japanese

physiologist called Tabata, will you go full bore for 20 seconds -- okay -- and you

take a 10-second break. Full bore is a hundred percent effort

and it's a series of exercises that that are broken up into 30-second intervals

jumping jacks, push-ups, dips a different series of body bodyweight exercises, that

you do over seven minutes and when I say 20 seconds full-bore that 10 seconds

winds up not being enough time -- you know -- to rest in between exercise -- you're going

hard that takes a little energy -- if you get more fit you can do two intervals

meaning you do seven minutes and then you do it again or if you get more fit

you do forty seconds and then a 20 second break, but you will be amazed at

how hard it is to go seven minutes but you won't have an excuse that you don't

have time because you will get a tremendous level of physical fitness and

performance in a seven minute or a 14 minute workout. So, the whole notion

of high-intensity interval training has caught on in the CrossFit generation and

we now the Millennials are a CrossFit generation will you go full-bore with a

short 15 or 20 minute workout will you get the same level of improvement in

cardiovascular fitness and performance by doing 15 to 20 minute workouts using

the same concept of going full-bore for two thirds of the time and then rest for

one third of the time. So right now what you won't get from a high-intensity

interval workout is you're not going to burn as many calories so if you're

looking at exercise for weight loss you won't get that benefit -- But you're

getting your heart pumping -- But you're getting improvement in cardiovascular

fitness and performance and reduction in the likelihood of developing blockage in

those arteries.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Online - Easiest Way To Make Money ONLINE - Duration: 4:59.

What's up guys and welcome to another video today I'll be showing you one of

the easiest ways to make money on Red Dead Redemption online. Before we get

into the video make sure you leave a like make sure you subscribe and also

make sure you turn on notifications. The grind for Red Dead online is real by

completing the main story missions you will get only about 150 to 200 dollars

and that will take around about four hours to complete that is why I have

resorted to this method now this method what I'm doing is very very easy anyone

can do it I've seen a few tutorials online of people going into PvP and

playing that way getting like 10, 11 dollars every couple of minutes which is

very good but that does mean that you have to be a skillful player with this

method you don't have to be skillful and I'm gonna show you what you'll get if

you did it the worst possible way and you'll still making quite a bit of

money considering how this game is right now but pretty much what you want to do

is head to Blackwater and just above Blackwater you're just gonna roam around

there and hunt. round there you can find Bisons, bucks,

rabbits, different types of deers as well as other animals. I think you got

Cougars to the left of it there's a lot of different stuff going around Blackwater

and what you're gonna do is hunt them now with the footage that you're

seeing on your screen I have not got the best weapons I have two weapons to my

name that is a pistol and a rifle and it is not a good rifle is the first rifle

that you get when starting the game it is not the correct rifle to be hunting

with it's taken two or three shots for me to kill animals I'm not aiming for

the head I'm getting poor hides but I'm doing it a lot

now what I've been doing is after I've hunted all those I would go into Blackwater

and sell them and after every visit I'm getting at least $10 I would probably

hunt for about seven minutes and then head back in that I'll have a couple

rabbits I'll have quite a few different hides and I'll either have a buck laying

on top of the back of my horse or I'll have some bison hide which is very very

expensive but everything that I have is in poor condition and I'm still making

ten dollars once you get to a hundred dollars which will not take that long

it'll take roundabout all of you to get $100 what

you're gonna want to do is start upgrading your weapons now at the moment

I do not know where I can get a bow and arrow if anyone knows please tell me

please leave it in the comments down below because I'll help me massively but

I believe you can get a varmint rifle for free I went to go to a gun store as

well as a few other weapons you can get for free as soon as you get them you

will be making a lot more money your hides will be good especially with a

varmint rifle what you can do is start getting perfect hides once your hunting

rabbits at that point I believe we can be easily making twenty dollars at least

every every time you visit Blackwater to go and sell all your stuff at the

butchers I did say earlier the different animals that are round black what you've

got bison, bucks, rabbits but the ones you want to look out for the most or not

the ones but the one is a cougar. A cougar is very very expensive even if you have it

in very very poor condition I managed to come across one it was by accident it

was before I even started to think about doing this as a actual method to make

money in Red Dead Redemption online it just out of the blue attacked me I ended up

killin it. I think I put four bullets into it so yet again it was very very

poor meat, poor hide but I laid that on the back of my horse went back into

Blackwater and managed to sell it for I think just over five dollars I think it

was five dollars and five cents or something like that which is very very good so I highly

recommend you do the same thing anyway that is just a quick video on how I've

been making up my money on Red Dead Redemption online I will be definitely

be bringing out some other videos to show you how other ways different ways

to be making money online it is an incredible grind right now I've only

been playing it for two hours and I think I'm like on 120 dollars which is

very very good for what's been happening for other people like I said right at

the beginning if you were to do all the main stories which I I do recommend

doing but you're only gonna get 150 to 200 dollars and it does take about four

hours traveling from the right hand side of map all the way down to tumbleweed

which it is kind of crazy it's kind of crazy

especially once you've got a horse with very very low stamina but anyway guys

that is the end of the video I hope you guys did enjoy if you did enjoy don't

forget to leave a li ke and subscribe but for now I'm going, so see ya

we'll be putting in the three black poles, while I did set this up alone it

is recommended and much easier to do with the second person. Now the gray

poles will go along this pathway over the doorway and down along the other

side, for easy setup we've color-coded the trim of the pole sleeves, to match

the color of the corresponding pole that goes inside of it.

Before we finish setting up, we wanted to take a peek inside and show you what

it's like as the floorless setup. You can see that

there is a huge number of ceiling windows that zip open, also included is a

stove jack panel, when not in use you can close it with a rain cover, that's

included. When you're ready to use your wood stove, the stove jack panel easily

clips on with velcro. The Hercules Tent includes three very large door panels,

that make it easy for group camping. Now we're going to take out the floor, it

clips in very easily,

having a clip in floor makes it very versatile. You can leave it half exposed,

as shown in this example. This is perfect for when you need one

half for a sleeping area, and one half for your wood stove in rain or snow.

You'll want to throw the rain cap on very easy.

Here we wanted to show you what it looks like with the full floor clipped in.

Also included is an easy to clip in gear loft.

There's definitely plenty of storage options, you have this huge gear loft

various mesh pockets, and also many clips and hooks, that you can hang items from.

For the easiest way to tighten the corners, you want to lift the poles and

pull in the straps.

At night the gear loft is perfect to put a lantern or other important items in.

FAQ - What is teeth in a day? | Mingel Dental - Duration: 0:56.

Steven B.: Teeth in a Day is a concept whereby we're able to shorten the healing time so

that the implants can go in and then that day or the very next day, we're able to give

them temporary teeth, so, that way, we don't have to have the four or six months of healing,

of the patients having to wear a denture, before they're able to get their teeth, and

the patients love it because there's minimal downtime, and they're able to get back to

eating and biting and chewing on their new implant teeth just like they had before.

Of course, Teeth in a Day require a lot of planning and a lot of working together between

myself and Dr. Mingel and the lab.

We all work together, and there's a lot, a lot of planning that goes into it to make

sure that we get the best results and a happy patient.

How Suspiria Drew Inspiration from Italian Slashers - Duration: 6:25.

- In the newly released film Suspiria,

acclaimed filmmaker Luca Guadagnino weaves a cinematic

phantasmagoria centered around a dance academy in Berlin

and the sinister goings on behind its doors.

Though it is widely known and publicized

that the film's plot concerns witches and witchcraft,

did you know that the movie Suspiria is based on,

a 1977 film of the same name,

has a unique connection to the tropes

of the modern slasher movie?

Dario Argento, the creator and filmmaker

behind the original Suspiria,

made his name as a master of a particular subgenre

of Italian suspense cinema that inspired movie killers

of a new generation to be more lethal

and far more artistic.

Greetings and welcome to History of Fright.

I'm your host Michael Varrati.

This week, I'm serving up a heaping helping

of Horror Italiano as we take a deep dive

into the world of giallo.

(screams)

(retro music)

An often brutal subgenre of film and literature,

the concept of giallo, or gialli, in plural,

rose to prominence in the 20th century in Italy.

Though initially rooted in the world of crime fiction

and thrillers, the giallo's tendency to lean into grotesque

and garish murder sequences,

as well as occasionally engaging in supernatural content,

soon made it synonymous with the European horror movement.

But what does it mean?

And what sets gialli apart

from the Freddys and Jasons of the world?

The word "giallo" itself

is literally the Italian word for "yellow,"

and early on got attached in a somewhat mocking fashion

to a series of cheaply printed mystery novels

featuring yellow covers selected by the publishing imprint

in post Fascist Italy.

This range of books primarily featured

Italian translations of already popular English

and American novels, including adaptations of works

by Agatha Christie, Ellery Queen, and Raymond Chandler.

Due to the low cost and high demand,

other Italian publishing houses began creating

their own giallos featuring original stories

by Italian authors and they made sure to mimic

the popular yellow covers

of the original line in the process.

Pretty soon, the color yellow became intertwined

with the Italian notion of murder most foul,

and the moniker, which began as a mockery, stuck.

In the world of literature,

the term "giallo" became something of a catchall

for any subgenre of crime fiction or mystery thriller.

However, when giallo made its leap to the cinema,

the term took on a much more specific meaning.

Initially, gialli on screen served as literal adaptations

of some of the more popular novels.

But, when a new school of Italian filmmakers

saw the potential to take the genre to new

and terrifying territory using the techniques

and magic of the movies,

the subgenre and its definition were forever changed.

(screaming)

Widely considered to be the first "true" giallo film,

Mario Bava's 1963 The Girl Who Knew Too Much

established early trademarks

that would become fixtures of the movement.

Themes of brutal crime, paranoia, sexuality,

and madness interwoven with a story of a protagonist

who is uncertain of the world around them,

suddenly beset by psychological trauma and mortal danger,

the giallo sought to play with our perceptions

of what we did or did not know.

- [Michael] A hyper violent whodunit,

Bava took his cues from the mysteries of Agatha Christie

and suspense of Hitchcock,

but dialed up the violence and danger 10 fold.

And a year later, when Bava made the switch to color

with 1964's Blood and Black Lace,

the final element of the giallo was set into place.

- [Announcer] Suddenly, these lace curtains

ignite a trauma that will lacerate your emotions.

Blood and Black Lace.

(screams)

- [Michael] Hyper colors and psychedelic imagery

gave the giallo the look it would become known for

by audiences the world over.

This was a world where murder was as elegant as fashion

and style trumped all else.

From Bava's trailblazing, a new school of filmmakers

trying their hand at blood red art cinema would follow,

including the aforementioned Dario Argento.

(screaming)

Announcing himself with 1970's

Bird with The Crystal Plumage,

Argento's output over the next decade

would push the limits of what horror could be

with extravagant and extended sequences of gore

shot with an intense and stylized lens.

With movies like 1972's Four Flies on Grey Velvet.

- Announcer] An evening of darkness becomes an eternity

of terror and suspense.

- [Michael] And 1975's celebrated Deep Red,

Argento's brutal mysteries featuring unseen

leather gloved murders and grotesquely beautiful set pieces

realigned what giallos could be,

but also left a major impact on horror in general.

(hissing)

In 1977, when Argento created

the supernatural thriller Suspiria,

he brought elements of the giallo style to the proceedings,

telling the story of an American dancer

at a German dance academy driven to paranoia

and madness because of her belief that the matrons

of the school were witches.

- I just wanted to talk to you about some of the things

that have been happening here lately.

- [Michael] By pulling the giallo style out of the realm

of shadowy killers and giving it a dose of the supernatural,

Argento proved that the themes of tension, paranoia,

and sexuality were bigger than the mere trappings

of genre and that fright can be universal.

Beyond redefining how horror could look

and showcasing the artistic power of aesthetic in genre,

the work of individuals like Mario Bava

and Dario Argento had an undeniable impact

on the American slasher movie era that would follow.

(screaming)

Mario Bava's 1971 masterpiece, Bay of Blood,

about brutal murders set at a remote bay in the woods,

served as an admitted direct inspiration for the creation

of the original Friday the 13th.

What's more, two of the kill sequences

in Friday the 13th Part 2

are purposeful homages to the murders in Bava's film.

The Italian era of masked and menacing killers

with escalating body count in the 70s clearly

paved the way for the American slasher movement of the 80s.

Furthermore, when Slashers made their triumphant return

in the 90s with the release of Wes Craven's Scream,

the film's reliance on keeping the identity of the killer

hidden hearkened back to the whodunit foundations

of the giallo, bringing the murderous mayhem full circle.

- [Man] Here it comes.

(shouting)

- [Michael] In the wake of Scream, many horror movies,

like Urban Legend and Valentine,

followed this mystery aspect,

forcing audiences to question the killer's identity

alongside the characters,

all the while buckling up for the carnage.

And this brand of lethal mystery is undeniably giallo.

(screaming)

As you may gather,

the notion of the giallo has a very rich history,

and a vast, colorful assortment of films

that we can barely scratch the surface of in one video.

But thanks to the work of a generation of Italian filmmakers

who saw the potential of bringing horror

out of the dark and giving it a full spectrum

of color to terrorize,

the genre has mercifully never been the same.

- [Announcer] You won't be able to close your eyes.

- Beautiful and brutal,

stylish and savage,

the Giallo is the genre that sought to bring the art house

and the grindhouse together as one,

and changed the look and feel

of a whole genre in the process.

So, next time your favorite movie slasher

makes the blood run red,

remember it's likely due in part

to a healthy dose of yellow.

Until next time.
