Hey what's up guys?
So today, I'm going to be showing you how to
change your oil in your 350z.
Or for any car for that matter, it really is all the same at the end of the day.
Now right there in the background is my 2006 Nissan 350z
With about 113,000 miles on it... It's still a baby, but it needs its oil changed.
So, I'm going to take you through all the steps and everything you need to know on how to do this in 15 minutes
If you're good.
Now if you suck, it might take 30-45 minutes
Now if you really suck, it might never get done...
I'm just kidding.
We're going to get it done.
So without further-a-due, lets get this video started.
Moving into the garage we have our oil.
We have 0W-40. Zero because it is going to be getting
colder here in Texas, and we want to have a little bit thinner of oil on startup.
40 weight because 350z's love to have a little bit of thicker oil.
They just run better.
Next, we have our oil wrench. We are probably not going to need it because I have taken off my oil filter before.
So.. it should come off easy.
Moving on, we have our OEM oil filter.
4 dollars on the internet so there is no reason to go with anything else
Moving along here we have our 10mm socket
This is going to be for the plastics for under the car
Mine are long gone from the previous owner.
Next, is our 14mm socket for the drain bolt.
Our extension so when we're taking off the drain bolt we don't get oil on our hands
That always sucks.
3/8 Ratchet.
Then we have our low profile jack from harbor freight.
Works great.
Drain pan, it's always good to have one of those.
And lastly we have our funnel and some rags.
Along with some boards cause my car is low so we're going to have to jack it up a little to get under it.
So now we are going to pull the emergency brake because we don't want the car to move.
Right here we are going to choke the wheels, so the car can't move.
Right here we are letting the car run for a little bit.
That will heat the oil a little bit and make it easier getting it out of the car.
Next, we're going to jack up the car
On this jack there are little indentations, we want to make sure they opposite of the pinch welds so we don't damage them
Right here we want to align the jack carefully
Next is a time-lapse of the car being raised up on the boards so we can get underneath it.
Next, we're locating the 14mm drain bolt.
And we're going to put our drain pan under that so we don't make a mess on this driveway.
Remove the drain bolt.
Let the oil drain for 5 minutes
And here we are putting the drain bolt back in.
We want to first loosen it a bit so it catches on the threads and then tighten it so it doesn't cross-thread the bolt.
Here you want to make sure the bolt is tight, but not to tight, because you don't want the bolt to seize up.
Right here we are just going to loosen that oil filter.
Shouldn't be on there to tight.
Let's see....
There we go... came right off easy, almost to easy....
And there goes that oil draining into the pan.
Always want to make sure that rubber seal comes off with the oil filter.
If not, it's going to be a bad day because you're going to have oil going everywhere when you start the car.
There it goes, draining.
And here's that oil filter gasket that I was talking about before
You are just going to want to take it off on the new one and put oil on it so it doesn't crack
due to the heat cycles in the engine.
And now we are just getting back underneath the car.
We want to clean up that metal matting surface for that oil filter.
So that way it doesn't leak or anything with the new one it.
You can see that, that old gasket came off with the old oil filter so we don't have to worry about that either.
We have a nice clean surface for this filter.
And now we are just going to grab our oil filter.
As you can see that gasket has a nice lining of oil on it.
So it's going to bond nicely to that metal.
Now sometimes you would want to fill the oil filter with a little bit of oil so that way on startup it doesn't
starve the engine of oil for that split second.
But cause the 350z has the oil filter at a 180 degree angle, the oil is just going to spill out of it anyways when putting it on.
So I chose not to put any oil in it.
So right here we just make sure it is on there tight enough.
Hand tighten is all you need.
No wrench is needed.
And next, we're going to locate the oil filler.
It will be next to this plastic cover on top of the engine.
And next we're going to add the oil into the car. The 350z takes 5 quarts of oil.
Next, we're going to lower the car, so it's level so we'll get a more accurate reading on the dipstick.
And once the oil is in the car, we want to double check that the oil level is in-between the low and the high mark.
You want to get it in the center of that.
As you can see, it is.
And lastly, we're just going to want to start the car up and make sure there are not oil leaks.
Underneath the car, oil filter, drain bolt...
After it has run for a good 3-5 minutes, check the dipstick one more time and make sure the oil didn't drop any.
And after that we're all good.
So there you have it folks.
That's how you change the oil in your 350Z.
