Welcome to the Kammebornia podcast, about life in general and knitting in particular
In the Kammebornia podcast we want to invite you to our world
that is full of thoughts, feelings and discussions
caused by the scent of the coffee and the soft peaceful rhythm of the knitting
Kammebornia is our art project as well as our own kingdom
Kammebornia is about our wish that everyone could live in their own fairytale kingdom in this place we call reality
and it is about our wish that everyone could be the king or the queen in their own life
We are Dennis and Pia and we live on Gotland, the island of roses and fairytales in the Baltic sea
We wish for a softer, more kind and warm world
Love and respect, does it have to be so hard?
Without the woolen threads, I get lost
but if I can knit one more row, and one more, I can find my way home again
Through the magic of the threads I take my way through the days and the nights
With a rhythm like the waves and the beating of the heart,
I knit one stitch after the other and one row after the other
at the same time I collect my thoughts and feelings
Coffee and Talk
Hello, and welcome to Gotland! We are back from our trip to Norway!
Yes, we have been to Midtnorsk Strikkefestival, a knitting festival
It was so exciting!
I think so too. And it was really beautiful!
We want to show you some of our experiences there, let's have a look right away!
Yes! Let's watch it!
We were invited to come to Midtnorsk Strikkefestival in Orkanger, close to Trondheim in Norway
to have a talk and to host a workshop
As traveling takes so much energy, we decided to explore Trondheim for a couple of days before
and after the festival
We arrived in Trondheim late at night and as we woke up the next morning, we could see the Nidaros Cathedral
through our hotel window and we went out immediately after having breakfast
What a beautiful church!
I have been wanting to come to Trondheim since I was a teenager, so it was a great joy to finally come here!
We felt like pilgrims, even though we had not walked the whole way there
We walked arounf in the town and enjoyed the October sun and all the beautiful scenery
Trondheim feels like a big town and a small village at the same time, and very friendly
There are so many nice old buildings and through the town, runs the river Nidelva
There is something special with towns that have water in them
We also visited the Vår Frue Kirke (Church of Our Lady)
They are doing such an important and nice social work in this church
Everyone is welcome here, the door is open and you feel so welcome
Everyone can come in and often homeless people can get a meal, some coffee and warmth as well as company
Every Thursday, they are serving hot soup
We felt so welcome here
and I was thinking a lot about how important it is to let everyone have a place where they are welcome
We can never know how it feels to be someone else, but it is easy to understand that everyone need things like
warmth, company and food
We all need to be seen
Every autumn there are many orange scarfs knitted in Trondheim
Then the scarfs are being placed here and there in the town, so that anyone in need of a warm scarf can get one
You can also wear an orange scarf to show that you wish for a warmer world where there is place for
everyone. This is such a great project by Kirkens Bymisjon, the Church Mission
We were staying at Hotel Trondheim where we were given yarn and needles to be able to participate
Our friend Patricia, on Youtube as Knitography, has made an episode about the orange scarfs
It's in Vlog 14 of Knitography
We can highly recommend to watch that!
After lovely days in Trondheim, we took the bus to Orkanger
We were welcomed by Ojvind, who is in charge of the festival, and his team
Orkanger was such a beautiful place, by the river Orkla and with the hills surrounding the village
We slept in a nice white house by the foot of the hills
The festival was spread out in the different buildings surrounding Bårdshaug Manor that looked like the Moomin house
It was a national romantic building from the late 19th century
There was also a stave church, built for the World Exhibition in Chigago 1893
It was built to show what the really old stave churches look like
It was transported back from Chicago to Orkanger in Norway last year, 2017
after more than 100 years in the USA
On Saturday, I had my talk about knitting as meditation, healing and therapy
in the old cinema
It was so wonderful to have a big audience and to know that all those people wanted to listen to my story
It is a bit strange to make such a long travel to talk for an hour
But it was really worth it and so lovely to meet all the nice people and to get hugs and greetings
and positive feedback. Thank you, all of you that came!
Thank you for coming, for your words, your stories, for your tears and your laughter!
It meant a lot to me!
Afterwards, Dennis and I hosted a workshop together
We were talking about the production of a video podcast
We tried to share our best tricks and we showed some behind the scened material and answered a lot of questions
It was a great moment, to meet all the curious, inspiring and interested people
In the workshop, we had a small group with lots of space for talking to each other, which was really nice
For example, we got to know both Brit and Merete. Both of them have already released nice podcasts from the festival
Merete interviewed us for her podcast
and you can find links to both their podcasts in our shownotes below and on ravelry
After our work, we could stroll around the Yarn Market in a beautiful old building by the river
We met old and new friends and there was time for talking and having coffee
We could spend some time with Patricia, last time we met was in March in Edinburgh
She sold her locally produced, plant dyed yarn and her sockblockers and mittenblockers
handmade, by wood from her farm. They are treated with bee wax from local bees
They are both beautiful, functional and very smooth
We also met Emelie from Arctic knitting, we also met in Edinburgh
Lovely knitting community!
When mostly working from our home, the travels are a nice contrast to the homebird life
And meeting all the lovely people while traveling, is a good acknowledgement of our work
Traveling is taking and giving. It takes a lot of energy, but we get so much love and energy back
As we came back to Trondheim, we were so happy and so tired
We had some rest, lovely walks and good food there before we went home again , carrying many happy memories
So, now we have showed you some of our adventures in Norway!
It was so lovely there!
And now, it's lovely to be at home, sitting here on the porch, knitting
You are knitting your second Riddari?
Yes, I am. I am participating in a Riddari knitalong
That is right, it is a knitalong that I am hosting together with Järbo garn
You can find more information about the Riddari knitalong on my blog, kammebornia.se
So, I can get some help there?
Yes, you can, or you can ask me directly
Your colours are so beautiful!
I am knitting knee high socks
Blue, my new colour
Isn't brown your colour?
Yes, it still is, but I also like blue
I have even knitted a blue Riddari
and now I am improvising blue socks in a sports weight Opal sockyarn from Opalicious
Now it's time for a book recommendation and some other things we want to tell you about
Great!
Maja Karlsson has made another lovely book, this time about mittens
Trettiofem vantar (35 mittens) will be available in English next year!
I am knitting a pair from the book, they are called The Promise
In the book, Maja tells a story about how mittens and gloves always had a strong connection to promises and honour
My mittens has love birds on them, they are about a promise of love
It's a symbol for faithful love
This book is like a treasure with enchanting mittens and pictures
