Be Understood: Make People Listen To You ✓ - Duration: 13:22.

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you feel people don't listen to you?

I mean you know they hear you, but they don't listen to you.

So, the following is usually what happens; let's see if you have been in that situation.

You are in a meeting or a social gathering, you say something;

And when you don't get the attention you want, then you start rephrasing the same sentence.

You do that right?

I know you do it.

That's what happens.

Because you are thinking "oh they didn't understand me".

So, I should continue explaining it more.

Then you use different words to explain the same thing.

When that doesn't work, you start changing your pitch, your speed.

And eventually, you end up talking about the same thing for 5 minutes.

Nothing works.

This happens all the time.

A few years ago, one of my junior consultants from my team came out of a meeting crying.

She was crying.

It was not particularly a good meeting with our client.

But she was crying because they didn't really pay much attention to her.

She felt unimportant.

Why is this happening to me, I am a good consultant.

I am a Stanford graduate.

I deserve better.

Then, she said it's happening, because she's a junior consultant.

It's because of her title.

Then, she said it's happening because she's a girl.

I said no.

It had nothing to do with it.

Now, I'll share with you what I shared with her that day.

First, a bit of a disclaimer here, this video isn't about how to speak effectively.

I am not going to talk about your pitch, speed, and prosody.

I am going to talk about something a lot more important than that.

In fact, I am going to talk about a prerequisite to delivering a great speech.

Because, even if you are a worldclass toastmaster, that you can give the best speech in the world,

it makes no difference if your audience isn't ready to receive your message.

So, that's what this video is all about.

Getting your audience ready to listen to you.

Let's start; To get through to anyone, to get your message

processed by your audience, you have to first understand how the brain works.

So, at any given time, we have 2 systems at work.

1 is active and 1 is idle.

The 1st system is fast, instinctive and emotional.

It's mostly automatic and it's our unconscious way of thinking.

For example, if I ask you what does 4 by 4 equal to.

You already know the answer is 16 and you don't need to "think" to come up with

that answer.

So, that's system 1 talking.

It just blurted out the answer without even having to think about it.

You go to shopping you look at various food options, and you just pick what comes to your

mind.

You don't go through a detailed analysis with certain criteria and a strategy.

You just felt like eating pasta.

And you bought Pasta.

95% of your time awake, you are in this system.

Ok, let's move on to the System 2.

The system 2 is the one that represents your conscious thoughts.

This system is the one that is capable of following instructions, connecting dots, and

making analogies.

It is smart, analytical, and accurate.

It is your mental superpower if I ask you to calculate 21 by 78 then your

brain will engage System 2 to find the answer.

Which means it'll be slow, but accurate…

Something you need to know; System 2 is also very energy intensive, and

it simply doesn't want to work unless it really has to.

So, whenever possible it will stay in the background, in idle position, conserve your

energy, and only engage when it's really, absolutely necessary.

We don't like thinking.

Thinking is uncomfortable.

Now, let's talk about what this means to you when you are speaking with other people.

Be it your boss, a client, your spouse, your friends…

Here's your punchline (finger snap); you'll fail miserably if you are talking

about something important to System 1 side of your audience .

Did you get this?

I don't care how amazing of a toastmaster you are.

I don't care if you are the most charismatic speaker in the world.

You won't get what you want.

Try teaching your kids special relativity when they are playing in the park.

Good luck with that.

As I said, you won't get what you want if you talk to system 1.

You want to talk to System 2.

Ok, the natural question to follow is; how do you do that?

I mean it's the brain of the audience.

How is it possible that I can change their state?

I mean I can't just say alright now you turn on the system 2 because I want your full

attention…

No.

Obviously not.

But, there are certain things I do, which triggers the activation of system 2 in my

audience so my message gets properly processed.

Now, I am going to teach you how I do it.

One more disclaimer here; What I covered so far was scientific.

A Nobel Laurette Dr. Daniel Kahneman has a great book on this topic.

If you are interested please feel free to read more in his book.

Now, what will follow isn't necessarily scientific.

I'll share with you what I do, and what I know works for me and works for those around

me whom learned it from me.

It's not an absolute blueprint to follow but it's a good guideline and based on this

guidelines you can create your own versions.

There are 3 ways I found you can achieve this.

You can use any of these based on your particular situation.

First one is; Give them a task.

The task needs to be easy enough not to ignore, yet difficult enough that System 1 can't

handle on its own.

It needs to involve thinking.

Remember how we spoke about how you know 4 by 4 equals to 16 and you don't need to

think about it.

But if I ask you 21 by 73 you can't just come up with an answer.

So, you just need to find a task that fits into your discussion.

For example, "I can't remember now, what was the confidence

score from Nielsenn's report?"

Another one " Can you let me know what methodology you

used" " What is the name of the finance director

from our ABC Client" The examples I gave are fairly simple ones.

But the important takeaway is that it's a task that requires thinking to arrive an

answer.

So, this was your first method.

The second method, is giving a command; This is comparably less effective compared to the

first technique but doesn't hurt to share it here.

Here is an example; "I'd like you to now pay attention to

what I am about to say" Then pause.

" Please listen carefully now" Then pause for a few seconds again.

So, the third technique which I use very frequently is a bit more complex.

But I found that it works a lot better than any of previous 2 techniques;

So, this technique is all about first creating uncertainty and a potential for a challenge.

Let me just quickly demonstrate what I mean by that.

Then, we'll break it down.

It's like this; "I see your point?!.."

"I understand.

But uhmm" "That's interesting…However,.."

Or you can just simply shock the audience.

For example, I remember an instance a couple of years ago, at PwC Consulting, we were working

with our government client.

And we were in a monthly project update meeting with the minister himself.

And it was a very large meeting.

Easily 50 people in a very long narrow table.

So, consultants and project leads present their projects.

But everyone was bored out of their minds.

It was just a very uninteresting, unintellectual experience and learning was close to zero.

People were just checking their emails, speaking with people next to them.

Minister himself wasn't engaged.

So, the meeting was serving very little purpose.

When my turn came to present the updates for my projects.

I knew that my projects were way too important to fall on deaf ears.

Plus, I needed minister's support on something.

I needed the full attention.

I needed to speak to System 2 side of my audience.

So, before I started presenting my projects.

I first primed the audience and I said; "I am going to make a confession" Then

I paused.

"My project is failing".

Then, I shocked the audience and minister himself.

Then I said, it's failing because while on our implementation

plan, my project is on budget, schedule, and the quality.

But, we are not doing an excellent job in terms of training the local talent in our

teams.

When this engagement is over, I am not confident - as of now- whether they will be able to

take it over from us.

But, I have a plan."

That's when I fully engaged the minister himself.

Because I knew that's what he cared about the most.

He wasn't interested in the boring details of our projects, their schedule, and timelines,

and fancy powerpoint slides.

No!

He wanted to know whether 2 months from now when we leave, if the local resources will

be able to carry on the good work we are doing.

He'll be there for 4 years not 2 months.

He's not interested in a 2 month sprint.

He wants to win the marathon.

This was great for me.

With that opening, he got totally engaged with my project.

He understood my bottlenecks, he helped with assigning new resources, and got so many doors

open.

So, I got everything I wanted from that meeting.

And without priming the audience, getting them into the System 2 state, this would have

been impossible.

Before me, over 20 project managers presented and they got nothing out of that meeting.

I was the only one who got all the support he wanted.

The video is done, but before you go.

I have something important to say.

I wanted to say this in previous videos, but I somehow kept forgetting.

If you like me, if you like my videos, and if you want to see more of these career hacks,

I need a favor from you.

I need you to share it in Linkedin or Twitter, or both.

If this channel is to grow, it can only grow thanks to you.

I can share my point of view, I can share my decades of management consulting experience,

and all the challenges I faced and how I overcame them so you can benefit from my experience.

But if you don't share and spread the message.

Our reach will always be limited.

If this channel will grow, it will only grow because of you.

So, let's share.

And if you do share in Linkedin, please send me an invitation to connect.

Let's connect, let's talk.

I'd love to be connected to you.

I'd love to hear about you.

Send me a message.

I'll respond.

I am a real person.

Not a digital reflection on a computer.

And if we can create this synergy for growth, together, I have one promise for you.

I will never ever; waste your time, with any of my videos.

If you see a video coming from me, it will not be some stupid "3 tips for Resume Successs"

. No.

It will be valuable and it will have substance, something that's worth your time.

Ok. now, see you next week!

Dragon Ball Super Episode 92 "Vegeta Ready!"- Review - Duration: 8:11.

Dragon Ball Super Episode 92 was a chill episode, but we all had a good time watching it.

Previously Vegeta went into the hyperbolic time chamber Lord Popo made it very clear,

that if Vegeta breaks it again, bad things will happen.

However, Vegeta dared to do something most wouldn't.

He disobeyed Popo's order, and broke it down again.

The entirety of what Popo did to Vegeta afterwards got cut due to censorship, and they just couldn't

show it to millions of kids watching DBS from around the world.

We do however hope to find out what happened in an uncut adult version later on.

Anyways, the training was necessary for Vegeta.

Because there was an issue of him getting a bit rusty due to missing some sessions for

being with pregnant Bulma.

So, he needed time to recover, but there wasn't any.

So, he made the perfect decision by training in the time chamber, and now we can expect

hardcore performance from him.

By the way, by breaking it, Vegeta also broke the same argument Buu fans kept bringing up.

Now, they can't throw Buu into the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and wait for him to wake up,

as it's broken.

It can be repaired but it would take some time for them to do it, something they can't

afford right now.

You can keep making new arguments with ways to wake him up, but it looks like we are going

to get Frieza so let's just deal with it.

I find it funny how they were ready to go in the tournament, with 9 members before the

Frieza idea came up, but still no one mentioned Yamcha.

They are basically acting as if having Yamcha in the team, would be worse than having no

one at all.

I do think DBS is trolling Yamcha a bit too much these days, but I have to admit the way

they are showing it is funny.

It's safe to say now, there's no way Yamcha is getting in unless Frieza denies.

For those of you who don't want Frieza in the tournament, in that case we would have

to include Yamcha.

Now, you be the judge.

This episode will forever be a marked episode in the history of Dragon Ball, because for

the first time ever we see a Female Saiyan go super in this episode, and she is Caulifla.

We don't have any information of there being any other Female Super Saiyan in the past,

so Caulifla might as well be the first to achieve that in the history, but we can't

say that's 100% confirmed just yet.

Well, now you know the exact process of turning super, and it's quite simple.

Focus your energy or ki on your upper back, make sure to be totally angry and then just

let it flow, congratulations you are a Super Saiyan.

Of course the pre-conditions are that you have to be a Saiyan and one that is capable

enough to handle the form.

Cabe got the form quite easily during his fight with Vegeta, but the way Caulifla got

it appeared a bit too simple, but I guess it works.

Because Universe 6 Saiyans are insanely powerful, Cabe was almost able to match up with Vegeta's

base form.

It goes without a Saying they are stronger by many many times than when Goku and Vegeta

first got the form.

In other words, power was overflowing they just never faced the emotional pressure or

knew the correct method of doing it.

Now, after getting the knowledge they are able to do it with only a little effort.

I am really liking this Caulifla character the way she talks, the attitude and looks

of course, but we have another one here yet to be explored.

It's Kale who was hanging around there, and Caulifla called her out, and will be training.

Now, we know this girl has exceptional potential, and upon training she will get a berserker

form that we currently know as 'The Legendary Super Saiyan', a form made popular by Broly.

We just got the first female Saiyan, and now we are getting a new form introduced to one,

things are getting quite refreshing.

Hard Challenge awaiting Master Roshi though, he just eliminated his only weakness by working

with Puar's young gal form, but in front of the likes of Caulifla and Kale can Roshi

really control himself?

Even on a serious note, that is a legit weakness for Roshi to be worried out in the Battle

Royal, just like see few episodes he got off guard with Yurin due to his pervert side,

which ultimately led him to get under the spell.

For those of you thinking, who cares what Roshi does, it's not like he is going to

make a difference among all these ultra powered, but like mentioned over and over again.

This tournament isn't all about power, but skills and techniques.

Master Roshi is extremely good at these sectors, and has high battle intelligence due to his

experience.

Just like Goku points out once again, while convincing Krillin to participate, that Universe

7 not only need powers but also needs quick thinking style fighting skills of the likes

of Krillin.

Similar to what he displayed few episodes back when he battled Goku.

Krillin, Tien,18 and others also found out the real reason of the tournament, and that

they are on the verge of potentially getting destroyed.

Of course all of them gets pissed off not mainly because of the destruction, not even

because of the prize money but mainly because Goku was hiding something this important from

them.

I loved the Goku-Krillin confrontation that eventually ended with a joke.

I still do think it made no sense for Goku to hide it.

Knowing 100% that they would eventually find out, most importantly they could have trained

harder, overall I am disappointed with how they utilized the time.

I was kind of expecting, all 10 of them training together and strategizing at once.

Although the Piccolo-Gohan training session was cool, I think others could have done way

better.

I like how Beerus walks up, and right away threatens Krillin, he put it in very simple

words, Krillin will participate, survive till the end and win.

Imagine if Krillin was the last man standing for Universe 7.

That would be the greatest shocking moment ever, and since it's a team battle it can

be logical in ways that others dominate while he just keeps surviving and puts an end to

an half beaten opponent at the end.

I would pay to see that happen.

One thing DBS is doing well ahead of the tournament is going through Universes apart from 7.

The buildup part in this case has been excellent.

We get the follow up to Universe 11, where we see the caring side of The General and

even Toppo.

However, we move on and get the first look at some of Universe 3 fighters, this Universe

is adding a lot of refreshing value to The Dragon Ball Universe.

For a series that has been running for so long, it has to be careful about not being

repetitive, and bringing in characters like The God of Destruction Moscow is really helping.

We don't yet know if all the fighters of this Universe is going to be machines or robotics

but it seems to be that way, but the good thing about this Universe is they are able

to modify their robots on par with the requirements of the Battle Royal.

Like this one has claws that will prevent from falling down, and this will be a huge

advantage for them.

However, they are being a bit to systematic, and I think someone will break the system,

but before that point they are probably among the toughest in the battle royal.

So, overall this episode was quite enjoyable.

But The next episode has us even more hyped up, as Frieza will be returning, he looks

intense the trailers, and we will be talking more about that later in Episode 93 preview

breakdown.

Well, that's about all for now.

Advanced Listening Practice | Who am I? (education, qualifications, experience, etc.) - Duration: 9:10.

Hi guys, welcome back to English with Max. This video is going to be a little different from my previous videos.

Some people have been asking me about my qualifications, my experience,

the languages I speak, etc. etc. So I thought I could tell you about that

and at the same time do a listening practice video. I'm actually doing two versions:

one is an advanced version and the other is the intermediate one. This is the advanced version.

If you want to watch the intermediate one, you can do so by clicking on the card above,

and I will also put a link in the info box. As I said, this is the advanced version so I will speak relatively quickly.

Like most native speakers I don't speak perfectly 100% of the time, and I'm not following a script,

so it will hopefully be relatively natural. For my other videos I don't write a script

and then learn it word-for-word, but I do plan them quite a lot and I also edit quite a lot.

If you are watching this for listening practice, I recommend that you first watch this without subtitles,

so you can just practise your listening and not your reading, and then watch it

a second time with the subtitles, so you can see if you understood everything correctly.

Okay, so I'll start after high school. After high school I, like many people, went to university.

I studied international relations at the University of Sydney, but I also studied French and German.

The degrees in Australia normally aren't very specialised, so it's quite easy to study several subjects

at the same time. I'd started learning French and German in high school, and I really liked them,

so I wanted, naturally, to continue with them. After my second year I took a break -

I deferred for one year - and I went to Berlin. I was lucky enough to get a scholarship to study for

one semester and then I just stayed on for another six months. While I was in Berlin I thought a lot about

what I wanted to do, you know, for work, and that's when I decided that I wanted to become

a conference interpreter. If you don't know what that is, conference interpreters are the people

who sit in the glass booths at conferences with the headphones and interpret (or translate) simultaneously.

It is quite a hard job, but that's what I thought I wanted to do. Becoming a conference interpreter isn't

the easiest thing to do. Normally you have to do a master's and there aren't that many universities that

offer these types of master's programmes. The master's programmes are normally quite difficult to get into.

The good ones at least have quite difficult entrance exams. When I say difficult, normally only 5, maybe 10%

of the people who apply are actually accepted. Those are the people who pass the exam.

And then even once you're in the master's, maybe only 50 or 60% of the people actually finish.

And not many of those people do the master's in two years, which is the length of time that that master's

is supposed to last. Anyway, I knew that it was going to be hard, but I thought: "Okay, I'm going to try."

After Berlin I went back to Australia for one semester, and then I did my sixth and final semester

in Paris on exchange. I went to a university called Sciences Po. It's not exactly a university, but yeah,

it's a higher education institution in Paris. If you're French, of course you would have heard of it.

It's like where all the politicians and presidents study. Um yeah, it's quite prestigious in France, but personally

I didn't like it all that much. Anyway, I stayed on in Paris for about nine months after that,

so I was in Paris for about a year and a half. And then I decided to go to Spain for a year and a half.

I hadn't learned Spanish before, but I knew that Spanish was really useful and I liked the idea of living in Spain.

So I moved to Madrid, and that's where I did my TEFL certificate. I had already taught a bit of English,

but it was very informal - you know, just like student jobs, tutoring, etc. After my course I started working for a few

different language schools. The language schools normally sent you to different companies where

you would teach English to groups of adults. While I was in Madrid I also started working in the office

of a language school. There I did level-testing, I put classes together, I interviewed new teachers -

that kind of thing. But I really missed Paris and I also wanted to do my master's in Paris.

So after a year and a half I went back to Paris, and I was planning to sit an entrance exam for one of these

interpreting master's the following year. So I worked and I studied, and then the following year I sat that exam.

And I failed miserably. To be honest I wasn't really used to failing exams because I had always been

quite a good student, so it was quite a shock to the system. I guess you could call it a humbling experience.

Anyway, I decided not to give up, but because you can only sit these exams two or three times, I decided to

wait one or two years until I was more ready before I tried again. So in the meantime I worked a bit in Paris

doing different jobs. I also did a master's in translation, which is why I sometimes translate on the side.

So a couple years later I resat that exam. The first time I only applied to one university, but this time I applied

to three different ones: two in Paris and one in Geneva. I failed two of them and I passed one of them.

Yay! So I finally got into an interpreting master's. I started the master's and it was going okay,

but then I got sick. Don't worry, it wasn't cancer or anything, but we think it was glandular fever.

And because I wasn't able to continue studying in that state, I decided to come home to Australia

for a little while. When I was home - that was in 2015 - I didn't have a lot to do and I had thought about

starting a YouTube channel. I had already had that idea for a few months, so I started English with Max.

After six months living back home, I went back to Paris where I restarted the interpreting master's.

However, about four months into it I realised that I no longer wanted to become a conference interpreter,

after thinking it for many, many years. I came to the realisation that I much preferred teaching English

and that I wanted to become an English teacher full-time. And that is why I am here talking to you today.

Hopefully you now feel like you know a little more about me, but if you have any comments or questions,

you can put them in the comments section down below. Remember to like and subscribe,

and don't forget that you can follow me on social media. I'll put the links in the info box.

See ya next time.

Social Suicide (What It Is And If It Is A Good Option) - Duration: 4:32.

Social suicide - should it be done?

You see, first let's go over what social suicide is and then I'll give you my opinion on if

it should be done.

Social suicide is basically when you decide to cut off all of your current social situation.

I personally can see why this would be something in our current day in age right now that a

lot of people would like to commit because in our day in age a lot of us are lost.

Let's be honest.

A lot of people are not very grounded in their own selves.

They don't have a lot of self love for themselves so it makes it even a little bit difficult

to maintain relationships with others.

And since our world is so of materialistic things and not really focusing on the love

that we should be expressing to each other as human beings, unfortunately it makes for

a lot of people to just simply be bad friends.

I will be making a video on what it means to be a true friend tomorrow.

That will be my video for tomorrow, but this video today is going to talk about social

suicide.

So yeah, social suicide is basically when you decide to end all your friendships directly

by communicating it or just quitting hanging out with those people.

And, some people might decide to do social suicide for many possible reasons.

One reason they might want to commit social suicide is because they have had enough.

They feel like they've been bullied.

They feel like their friends are not good for their lives.

They feel like they have had so many enemies so they just decide to shut that aspect of

life down from their lives.

Another reason that maybe why is because they think they are not good enough for the people

they are dealing with, and it results in anxiety and stuff like that.

So people want to kind of, figure themselves out and figure out their life situation and

you know, their values and stuff and kind of ground themselves in their own self love

before they can actually go out and make friends, or go back out there into that world of friendship.

Believe it or not, you don't actually need friends in order to be happy.

You really don't.

Happiness comes from within.

And it's actually an illusion to think that a friend can complete you or like, give you

something that you can't have without them.

The truth is that you can have everything you can have with a friend, without a friend.

In fact people outside of you, generally speaking, and all living things outside of you have

the potential to make you sad if they are after that.

So it's always good to play it smart.

Now, I am not saying you should not have friends.

I am just saying that social suicide, here is my opinion on it basically.

It is totally okay.

Before you go out there and commit your social suicide, I recommend that you go out and talk

to every single person that you interact with a lot and let them know why you are deciding

to commit social suicide, and why you are going to be cutting of relationships with

all those people individually.

You don't have to be rude, you don't have to be mean, but you kind of have to say that

for whatever reason it is you are going to be doing it.

If you feel that you are uncomfortable in your current life situation, perhaps you haven't

been living from your heart and you have developed a sense of guilt.

Perhaps, you know whatever the reason is that something inside of you is telling you just,

get away from these people, and start a brand new friendship with others, maybe make some

brand new friends, or maybe just take some time to be without friends, if something inside

of you is telling you to do either of those, it should definitely be done.Remember, a true

friend is somebody who truly cares for you, will respect you if you choose to depart from

them.

A true friend does not try to interrupt your path of life.

A true friend encourages you to go in that path of life that you choose to be on.

I'm just here to tell you: play it smart in life.

But for now, that's going to be it for this video.

Thanks for watching.

Peace out.

Create a Google Cloud Database and Your First Holistics Report in 15 minutes! - Duration: 14:20.

Hello and welcome to the Holistics video demonstration on how to setup your own cloud database, upload

your data and create your first Holistics report, all in a matter of minutes!

At Holistics, we do believe that anyone can unlock the power stored in their data, so

we're here to help you to take control of your digital business insights.

One challenge many people face when trying to go digital and get more out of their data,

is the problem of setting up a database online, in the cloud.

I'll give you an example.

So let's say I'm in the marketing team of an e-commerce startup, and I'd like to

use the cool features in Holistics to take my marketing data sitting in a csv spreadsheet

like the one I have here and combine it with other data sources in my company, to make

better decisions about my marketing campaigns.

In this video, we'll show you how easy it is to do that, by using the really affordable

Google Cloud Platform to set up a MySQL database, upload some data, and create your very first

report on Holistics.

And just to keep things fun, I'm going to show you exactly how long all this takes,

by completing all these steps before the timer hits zero!

So let's bring the timer up… and let's go!

First you're going to need to sign-up for a Google Cloud account on the Google Cloud

website.

This comes with a free trial and credits.

The two products we'll be using are Google Cloud SQL and Google Cloud Storage.

I'll let you read more about these products yourself on the Google Cloud page, but if

this is your first time creating an online database, give yourselves a pat on the back,

because you're about to take what may be one of the most significant steps in your

digital business life, and it's going to surprise you how effortless this can be.

So let's pull up the console on the Google Cloud page, and pull up the side-bar menu,

and pull up 'SQL', under 'Storage'.

So we're going to create an instance on Google Cloud SQL.

Holistics is able to accept both MySQL or PostgreSQL databases, but let's use MySQL

for this demo.

And let's choose the second generation.

So name the instance as you wish, it can be any name you like such as "mysql-holistics-clouddb".

And choose a region that's close to where you are.

And for the purpose of the marketing dataset that we are using, we only need a really small

instance, so let's select the smallest option, which also has the lowest charges which should

barely put a dent in your free credits.

We can use the default settings for the rest of the page.

And set a root password.

And now for authorized networks, we need to whitelist the Holistics IP addresses, to allow

the Holistics platform to query the data we will be storing in the cloud database.

So go to the Holistics software page, go to data sources, click '+ New Data Source',

and take the IP addresses placed here.

For these networks, a name is optional, all we need are the IP addresses.

And now we have all the details we need, let's create the instance.

Now this will take a while, so kickback and relax, while I make us time travel...

Now!

And welcome to the future!

Now that the instance is created, we will create a user account, which will allow the

Holistics platform to connect with the Google Cloud SQL database later.

So we go to 'Access Control', select 'Users', and we create a user account.

Remember these details, because we'll need it later to connect the Holistics platform

to the database.

Alright, and the next thing to do is to create a database inside this instance.

Let's name it something we can easily remember, such as "marketing".

And we can leave the settings as default, and we create this.

Alright, so now let's find a way to import the marketing data from the spreadsheet table

into our newly created database.

As you can see here, there are two ways to do this.

One way is to use a CSV file directly, but to do this you would have to first type out

SQL code to define your database table to read the CSV, but since this video is about

the simplest way to get your data onto your cloud database, I'm going to show you how

to convert your CSV file into a SQL file, and import that instead.

There are several tools out there that can do this, but I've found SQLizer to be a

really clean and effective tool for doing so.

All we have to do is to pull up the CSV file that we just used, specify the database type

which is a MySQL database, mention if it has a header row which the CSV does, and the database

table name, we can leave it as the file name.

And let's convert the file.

And there we go!

We have a SQL text file converted from CSV.

So store this somewhere where you can easily access, because we're going to need this again.

And now, for Google Cloud SQL to be able to find the SQL file that we just created, we're

going to have to create a bucket in the Google Cloud Storage system to store this file.

As you can see, if we browse here, no buckets can be found yet.

So once again, pull up the side-bar menu, and now go to 'Storage'.

Select 'Create bucket', and let's call this something like "my-holistics-cloud-db-bucket",

and for storage class, regional should be fine, and let's create this.

And now we're ready to upload the SQL file that we created.

And now the SQL file is in the bucket.

So we go back to 'SQL' page, and now, when we choose to import, we can see the bucket,

along with the SQL text file that we created.

We have to specify the database that it will be imported into, so remember the database

name that we created earlier, and use this.

And we have successfully uploaded the data into our database!

So now that we have the data inside the database, as long as the instance is running, you'll

have your data online anytime you need!

If you're building an app, you can even link this up with the database that we've

created here, depending on whether it's MySQL or PostgreSQL compatible.

So for the final step, we'll now connect the cloud database to the Holistics platform.

This will allow us to automate the building of operational reports and dashboards across

several sources of data, to be able to get a complete digital view of what's taking

place in the business.

So we go to 'Data Sources' in the Holistics software page, we add a new data source.

Let's call this "ecommerce-marketing".

Database type is MySQL.

And for the Host address, we'll need to go back to the instance page and choose the

IPv4 address here, under the 'Overview' section.

Take that, and put it inside the Host address.

For the Port entry we can leave that empty.

And the Database Name was the database name that we created inside the instance, so remember

this.

For the Username, if you can't remember what it was, this was the user that we created

under 'Access Control'.

And now that we've put in all the details that we need, let's test the connection.

And the test connection is successful!

So now let's try connecting this.

And there you go!

The database is connected.

You can now tell your friends that you know how to set up and operate a cloud database!

So let's go ahead and create the first report.

So remember the marketing dataset that we put into the cloud?

It'll be interesting to create a chart of how the different ad groups in the marketing

campaigns are performing, so let's try and make a column chart of that.

We can call it "Marketing Adgroup Performance".

We'll need a simple SQL query to be able to build this, and I've already written

out the SQL code before, so let's take this and put this here.

Remember to specify the database, which is the "ecommerce-marketing" database that

we created.

And now, let's run this.

And there we go!

The query has run.

So now let's try building a visualization of this.

You select the 'Column' chart, and now, we are able to visualize the performance of

the different ad groups in terms of impressions and clicks.

We click 'Save Report', and there you go, you've just created your first Holistics

report!

Awesome.

Now wasn't this quicker than you thought it'd be?

I know.

You're welcome!

So now let's put the timer down.

This pretty much covers our demonstration of how to go from spinning up a Google Cloud

database and upload your data, to make your first Holistics report.

You can then build up your dashboard and reports, and can even set email schedules

to send out the dashboard or report on a daily, weekly or monthly basis to the members of

your team that will need this.

You can also use the 'Data Transforms' and 'Data Imports' modules under Data

Preparation, to be able to connect other data sources from your company, such as data sitting

in Google Spreadsheets, Google Drive, or database tables in other SQL databases, and import

this into the Google Cloud SQL database that we just created.

But that's a topic for another time!

So if you no longer need the Google Cloud database that we created, remember to delete

your Google Cloud instance to be able to stop any billing charges.

And that's it!

Thanks for watching, I hope you found this useful so please do get in touch with us,

because we'd love to hear from you and see if our team can help you with your business

intelligence needs.

From the Holistics team, we'll see you soon!

  1. You can earn $20 for completing a 20 minute survey!

Guess what? This is exactly what major companies are paying for. They need to know what their customer base needs and wants. So large companies pay millions of dollars each month to the average person. In return, the average person, like myself, answers some questions and gives them their opinion.

  2. If you would like an alternative to casually picking up girls and trying to figure out the right thing to say...

If you would prefer to have women chase YOU, instead of spending your nights prowling around in crowded pubs and restaurants...

Then I encourage you to watch this short video to find out a weird little secret that has the potential to get you your very own harem of beautiful women just 24 hours from now:

    Facebook Seduction System!!!

  3. I bet you can't guess what muscle in your body is the muscle that eliminates joint and back pain, anxiety and excessive fat.

If this "secret" highly powerful primal muscle is healthy, you are healthy.
