8 Surprising Reasons You Should Get a Massage
If your neck's all knotted up, it's no surprise that a massage can make you feel a whole lot better.
But the benefits of a good rubdown may run a little deeper than you may think.
Here, 8 surprising ways getting a massage is doing your body good.
1\ POOP EASIER.
All backed up in the bathroom? Massage might help people who suffer from constipation, according to research published in the International Journal of Nursing Studies.
Researchers broke up 60 people with constipation into two groups—one received laxatives along with abdominal massage, while the others were given only laxatives.
After eight weeks, the people in the massage group reported less severe gastrointestinal symptoms and less abdominal pain that the laxative-only group.
They also pooped more frequently, too.
2\ FIGHT OFF SICKNESS.
The feel-good effects of a massage may extend deep into your body.
People who received Swedish massage showed changes in their immune system responses after the sessions, according to a study out of Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre.
In particular, they experienced a boost in the number of circulating lymphocytes, white blood cells that help fight infection.
3\ EASE BACK PAIN.
Chronic low back pain is notoriously hard to treat - and according to new guidelines, you shouldn't reach for the pills for relief, either, as we reported.
But massage may be a drug-free way to feel better fast.
About 50 per cent people with chronic low back pain who were given 10 sessions of massage therapy experienced clinically significant improvements in their pain, a study in Pain Medicine found.
And the effects were sustained - 75 per cent who experienced improvements after 12 weeks still showed the benefits at the 24-week mark.
4\ SLEEP SOUNDLY.
People who suffer from back pain tend to have problems sleeping.
But massage therapy might help fix that, too.
In University of Miami School of Medicine study of 30 adults with chronic low back pain, those who started 30-minute long massage sessions twice a week for five weeks noted a significant reduction in sleep disturbances, meaning less awakening during the night or trouble falling asleep.
Since the massage also reduced the pain, it's possible that less aches means higher-quality shuteye, the researchers believe.
5\ END EXERCISE SORENESS.
If a tough workout has you limping, the answer might be on the massage table: People with trap soreness after a hard workout experienced a reduction in soreness intensity after a 10-minute massage of the affected muscle, according to a study in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research.
Can't fit in the masseuse after your gym session? Another solution may be just to keep moving: Those who performed "active rest" - in this case, 10 minutes of shoulder shrugs - experienced a similar reduction in soreness.
6\ BOOST YOUR MOOD.
It's not just your imagination—you really do feel better after a massage.
And those benefits might extend to people who suffer from depression, too.
After analysing 17 studies, researchers from Taiwan concluded that massage therapy sessions significantly reduce their depressive symptoms.
Still, more controlled studies are needed to nail down which massage therapy protocols are most effective, the researchers say.
7\ EASE ANXIETY.
People with generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) may benefit from a massage, too, a new study from Emory University discovered.
After six weeks of Swedish massage therapy, patients with GAD experienced a significant reductions in scores on the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, which measures feelings of worries, tension, fears, insomnia, dry mouth, and restlessness.
8\ LOWER YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE.
You don't just feel chilled out after a massage - your blood pressure might take a dip, too, according to a study from Iran.
Women with prehypertension who received Swedish massage for 10 to 15 minutes three times a week saw a 12 mm Hg drop in their systolic blood pressure after their sessions.
And the BP-lowering effect remained for 72 hours after the massage.

Bethany Joy Lenz as Jenny on 'Grey's Anatomy': 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know
GREYS ANATOMY - 1-800-799-7233 - Jo finally faces her estranged, abusive husband Paul Stadler, while Grey Sloan continues to work with the FBI after a hacker has compromised the hospitals computer system, on the midseason return of Greys Anatomy, THURSDAY, JAN.
18 (8:00-9:00 p.m.
EST), on The ABC Television Network.
A familiar face made her way onto one of our favorite small screen shows last week.
One Tree Hill alumn Bethany Joy Lenz, who now goes just by Joy Lenz, has joined the cast of Grey's Anatomy for a guest role, and fans could not be happier.
What's even more exciting is that she shares most of her scenes with Glee's Matthew Morrison, and both are certainly playing against type when it comes to these characters.
Read on to learn more about Lenz and her character on Grey's.
Joy's Character Is Mathew Morrison's Fiance on the Show.
ABCGREY'S ANATOMY – 1-800-799-7233 – Jo finally faces her estranged, abusive husband Paul Stadler, while Grey Sloan continues to work with the FBI after a hacker has compromised the hospital's computer system, on the midseason return of "Grey's Anatomy," THURSDAY, JAN.
Jo's abusive husband and her unfinished business with him has been tormenting the Grey Slown doctor pretty much since she was made a regular cast member on season 10.
The memories of her violent ex have tarnished some relationships and prevented new ones from forming.
A couple weeks ago, Jo's ex made his return as Dr.
Paul Stadler (played by Matthew Morrison), which means the level of drama on Grey's went up about ten notches.
When Stadler made his appearance, though, he didn't do it alone.
He brought his fiancee, Jenny, (played by Lenz) with him.
Stadler introduced Jenny to Jo as his fiancee… whom he couldn't marry until he and Jo divorced.
Jenny Has Denied Abuse in Her Relationship… so Far.
ABCGREY'S ANATOMY – "1-800-799-7233" – Jo finally faces her estranged, abusive husband Paul Stadler, while Grey Sloan continues to work with the FBI after a hacker has compromised the hospital's computer system, on the midseason return of "Grey's Anatomy," THURSDAY, JAN.
18 (8:00-9:00 p.m.
EST), on The ABC Television Network.
During last week's episode, Jo devised a plan to get Jenny alone in a room so she could discuss her relationship with Paul.
With the help of Arizona and Meredith, she was able to pull Jenny away from Paul, where she opened up about what Paul had done to her in the past.
Jenny denied there being any abuse in their relationship, and when Jo wrote down her phone number and offered it to Jenny, she refused that as well.
That ended up biting her in the rear end later on.
Jenny went and told Paul what Jo had said and he said Jenny wouldn't be needing her number, but that he'd like to keep it for himself.
That can only mean a dangerous encounter (that will hopefully be diverted) is awaiting Jo.

"It's a great character.
It's a really important story line.
I think it's something that will really resonate with a lot of people, [because] it's an issue that a lot of people don't talk about openly.
So I think it will be really important.".
She jokingly continued, "And I can't tell you more because I'll get fired!".
She Recently Dropped 'Bethany' from Her Stage Name.

Dear God, You Win - Duration: 3:04.
Peter Marshall was a pastor in Washington, D.C.,
in the 1930s and the 1940s.
There was a time when his wife, Catherine,
came down with turberculosis.
And she was bedridden
for 18 months.
And she had a very difficult
time with it.
She prayed and prayed and prayed
that God would make her better but,
but nothing was changing.
Nothing was happening.
She eventually became very
bitter with God,
bitter towards God.
And so her husband
at one point gave her a pamphlet
that told the story about a missionary
who was once bed-ridden
for eight years.
And that missionary
had a very difficult time
with that.
She couldn't understand
why
God would have her in
a bed for eight years
while there was so much great mission work
to be done, and
so few people who were willing to do it.
She frequently asked God,
"Why? Why? Why?"
as she continued to pray that
God would make her better.
And she kept praying
even though she struggled with this.
She kept praying that God would make her better
for eight years.
Until finally, she figured,
"I don't think that prayer's working."
So one day, maybe just
kind of out of desperation,
she decided to pray something different.
She said, "Dear God,
you win.
If I'm to be bed-ridden for the rest of my life,
your will be done.
But God, I want YOU
more than I want my health."
And within two weeks,
she was out of bed.
And she was completely well.
And hearing that story
made Catherine – Peter Marshall's wife –
realize that she had loved
the feeling of being healthy
more than she loved God.
It's not wrong to love the
feeling of being healthy.
Just like it's not
wrong to
never want your heart to be broken.
Just like it's not wrong
to want your loved ones
next to you in heaven.
You can love those things passionately.
As long as we remember to love God
a little bit more.
And why?
Because God first loved us
more than anything.
And we see that
most clearly in Jesus' own
times of heartbreak
and suffering.
In the Garden of Gethsemane,
the night before Jesus died
knowing full well the relationships
he was going to lose,
knowing full well
the pain that was coming,
this is what he said
to his disciples.
He said,
And we know how God
answered that prayer.
His will
was to put Jesus on a cross,
to forgive us
for all the times we have loved anything
more than him,
so that you could walk through life
confident
that our heavenly father will
always answer our prayers
with the greatest love
for all of his children.
Do you ever feel physically or
spiritually exhausted, or
or maybe both?
Spending time in God's word is
a great way to find the fresh start,
the rest and the refreshment
that you need to keep going with your life.
We'd like to help you find that
with this 365-day devotional book titled,
"Restart."
We'll send this you as a thank you
for any gift to the ministry.

Too old to start making music? - Duration: 2:46.
Are you too old to start making music?
In this video I'd like to give you some mental tools so won't ever have to ask yourself
that question again. Coming u
So you are 20, 40, 60, 80 and you ask yourself: Am I too old to start making music.
Short answer: no.
Long answer: hell no
But will you be successful at making music?
Well that's an entirely different question isn't it?
Try to look at it this way:
When you're younger you have more options, you get more opportunities
Just like when you are really really goodlooking
Or when you're born with an amazing singing voice
or absolute pitch, yes, those things help
But are any of these traits necessary to make it in music?
Hell no!
Fact: you can't change your age
Just like you can't change your face, your talents, your genes
It's who you are.
And to be successful you need to accept who you are
I could give you a list of very successful artists that are either
short
shy
ugly
blind
have a very limited vocal range
or even sing out of tune
and did their shortcomings stop them?
here's another tip: stop comparing
fact: Michael Jackson was younger, better looking, more talented and more successful
than any artist in history
But, and don't get me wrong, I am a great fan of his music,
you wouldn't want to trade places right?
So, you're not that gifted?
Practice harder So, you're very shy?
Wear a helmet Your bones ache when you're dancing?
Stop dancing So your vocal range is very limited?
Write melodies with fewer notes Here's a quote: It's not about the cards you're
dealt it's how you play the hand
fact: becoming commercially successful is not all in your hands
It's a matter of being in the right place at the right time
But in the meantime you're doing what you love
And there is no one that can take that away from you
You should be like: Try and fricking stop me
So I'm afraid you've run out of excuses You're NOT TOO OLD
