Food smells, markets, Buddhist temples, giant shopping malls everywhere!
Where are we? We are in Bangkok!
and we want to show you some of the main tourist highlights, of course
but also, we want to show you the unbeaten path, the hidden streets, how locals live
with this two little weels
Sawadika! Welcome to Thailand!
A good area to try biking in Bangkok is in its historical center
you can see that they recently just installed some new biking lanes and parcours
and they connect most of the important temples in the center
the Dusit area
is european-style area with big avenues and is the political center of Thailand
While taking the bike route in the Dusit area
we came to Wat Benchamabophit which is better known as the, and easier as the
marble temple because all its structure is standing on marble that was
directly brought from Italy
we are just going to leave the bikes here
for visiting a little bit the temple
you can really see the massive marble structure
We are now heading north of the historical and Dusit area towards
the Chatuchak district in order to visit one of my favorite markets in Bangkok
we just arrived to Chatuchak weekend market
and at the name says it is just happening every weekend
it is the biggest market in Thailand for sure and one of the biggest in all South East Asia
and we are going to go with this little ones!
We are walking in Siam, one of the most famous neighborhoods of Bangkok
and this is really the heart for shopping
you have just huge shopping malls and big restaurants, food courts, everywhere!
one of them just behind me is Central World, you have another one called Zen
you name it!
and here we are now enjoying a refreshing drink on a very nice view
on top of the Zen World Department Store
we are going to enjoy also some food here
and the nice views!
We are now at Wat Pho temple, one of the most important temples in Bangkok
and we are here to see the famous reclining Buddha
it is one of the largest and oldest temples in Bangkok
so we saw the splendid 46 meter long reclining Buddha
apart of that Buddha
here is where the biggest Buddha collection in Thailand is hosted
and it's also the birthplace of the Thai traditional massage
it is still teached here and still practice here
and it is also the first educational center
public center in Thailand and now we are going to continue our route with our
little bikes which are parked just right here, perfect parking!
It can certainly be intimidating to bike in Bangkok at first, so much traffic,
noise and pollution but discovering Bangkok by bike is perfectly possible
and so nice to do! You just need to be a bit smart around it
there are already many areas that have biking lanes like the Dusit area, the riverbank
but you can go pretty much all around Bangkok by bike
you don't need to go in the middle of the big busy roads
you can just avoid those by going around them through
the many little streets which are full of life, passing many markets and temples
and when not possible, you can always take for a bit the pavement.
Just do it slowly and very carefully in order to be respectful to the pedestrians
Behind us is Wat Arun or temple of Dawn
it is one of the most spectacular sights in Bangkok
especially at sunset
We are here in the Tuk Tuk experiencing the real Bangkok
with our Bromptons just packed in a box because we needed
to find some boxes for the plane
but we thought it was not possible to bring them in the Tuk Tuk but they made it possible
and we are crossing one of the many markets full of fruit
you will see a really big fruit on the way
pineapples, you have mangos, plenty of mangos,
and a very very green fruit which is dragon fruit, which is delicious!
We are here at Patpong night market
where we are really going to test our bargaining skills!
We are on our way to Bang Krachao island which is south of Bangkok in Phra Pradaeng district
and it covers 16 square kilometers
yes you heard it! An island!
for going there we need to take a boat and cross to the other side of the river.
They call it the green lung of Bangkok, not only because of its lung shape
when seen from above but you will now see why!
Bang Krachao is a smog-free government protected urban green oasis
it is a great escape from the fast pace of the city and it is a perfect area for biking
you can still see from here the skyline of Bangkok; as it is so close to the city
it is such a contrast with the concrete jungle of the city!
It feels like you are in an entire different world!
We continued our road to Lumphini park which is right in the middle of Bangkok
and it's one of the nicest parks and biggest parks in Bangkok
and we are just going to bike a little bit around
people here come to do some running, yoga, aerobics
and Tai Chi
oh! and they have some open air fitness also!
We are here at Pier 21
one of the many food courts in Bangkok
this one is in the Sukhumvit area which the most cosmopolitan area of Bangkok
and the food is fantastic
you have a lot of selection of all kind of Asiatic food
and fresh juices
and the best the Thai coconut, the mini Thai coconut which is just delicious
and everything... we had two dishes each, 4 coconuts, a coffee
for like 9 dollars
Here we are at the Grand Palace in Bangkok
which is a big complex so it doesn't only contains the Royal Palace itself
and the Royal Halls but it contains also many government buildings as well as
the well-known temple of the Emerald Buddha
and I'm standing at the Upper Terrace right now
and just behind me is the Emerald Buddha temple
which is the most sacred temple in Thailand
We are now biking around Chinatown which is an area full of markets and street vendors
so here we are Food Loft which is supposed to be another food court experience
these are different stands actually of famous restaurants in Bangkok
of some of the best restaurants in Bangkok
We are here at Central World, we couldn't find the food supermarket
so they just picked us up and they are driving us there with our bikes
how cool is this?!
