Live Inspired. Vlog Episode #124: What's Your 'Why'? - Duration: 2:54.

Well hello my friends!

Welcome to Live Inspired with John O'Leary.

Delighted, like I am every Wednesday morning to be with you on these days!

As those of you who have been hanging out with me for a while know, one of my favorite

quotes is: "When you know your why you can endure any how."

I was reminded of that quote and the profound meaning behind it during a recent podcast

interview with my hero, Charlie Plumb.

Charlie Plumb was on his 75th combat mission when he was shot down over Vietnam.

He ejected safely, but on his way down, the enemy was shooting at him.

And even as he slowly parachuted into the arms of the enemy with them shooting toward

him, he was saying to himself, "There must be a purpose.

There must be a why behind this."

During the six years on internment at the prison camp, during daily torture treatments,

during starvation, he kept saying to himself, "There must be some purpose, some mission,

some 'why' behind this."

When he was lucky enough to come home, and he raced to call his wife, the wife that he

had left EIGHT years earlier, hadn't spoken to in SIX years, he could not wait to speak

to this gal, and then he learns that recently she had left him and married a new man.

He said to himself, "There must be some mission.

There must be some purpose behind all of this."

Charlie Plumb has been living out that purpose now for the last FIVE decades, living into

a purpose, living into a meaning, living into a higher calling in his life.

But he reminds each of us that there is a purpose in the struggles.

There is a purpose in the difficulties.

There is a purpose in the sunshine, and a purpose in the rain.

There is a purpose and a calling and a reason behind everything that happens in our lives.

Our opportunity then is not to yell out "why me."

It's to spend the time, the reflection, the purposeful set space to figure out what it

is.

And then to the best of our abilities to live into it.

He is one of my heroes, and after listening to it, not only will you realize why he ought

to be one of your heroes, but I think you're going to have greater clarity on what that

purpose, that mission, that why is in your life.
