Come to the Upper Room And Be Comforted - Duration: 27:31.

[ANNOUNCER] The following

program is brought to you

by the friends and

partners of Time of Grace.

[MUSIC]

[PASTOR NOVOTNY]

Welcome to Time of Grace!

My name is Pastor Mike

Novotny.

I serve at The Core; a

Lutheran church in

downtown Appleton,

Wisconsin.

Today in the program,

Pastor Mark Jeske is going

to take us once more to

the upper room; that

incredible Thursday night

when Jesus spoke so many

beautiful words to his

disciples and gave them so

many incredible gifts.

And Jesus is going to give

us a word of comfort; he's

going to talk to us today

about the Holy Spirit.

Pastor Mark Jeske is going

to explain exactly what

the Holy Spirit does and

the great comfort and

counsel we received from

the gift that Jesus gave;

the gift of the Holy

Spirit.

[MUSIC]

[PASTOR JESKE] One

of the most grievous

wounds that the Christian

church ever had to endure

was the breaking up of the

church in the ancient

world into east and west.

The eastern end of the

Mediterranean was

predominately Greek

speaking - at least as a

second language - the

language, of course, of

the New Testament.

That is where in the first

centuries the church grew

most rapidly.

That's where the

missionary journeys of

St. Paul took place.

The western part of the

Mediterranean was often

called the Latin world

because of the Roman

Empire; they spoke Latin.

Then in the 500s in the

western part of the

church, Christians began -

for reasons that are a

little murky - to add a

few words to the Nicene

Creed.

In the third article of

the Nicene Creed, it

begins, "And we believe in

the Holy Spirit, the Lord

and [Audience: "Giver"]

giver of life who

[Audience: "Proceeds"]

proceeds from the

[Audience: "Father"] and

the Son.

Those words, "and the

Son," were not in the

original Nicene Creed when

it received what was

thought to be final form

in Constantinople in 381

and it had a Latin

addition.

The Latin words for "and

the Son," "Filioque" and

that little nickname has

given its identity to this

argument.

And you might think,

"Well, okay, this is just

a bunch of theologians

arguing over some little

tiny little sliver," like,

"Get over it, okay guys?

Can't you just play nice

in the sandbox with each

other?"

Well in the eastern

Christians' minds - what

are now called the

orthodox Christians -

that's holy tradition.

You can't mess with holy

tradition.

I would like to talk to

you a little bit about the

promises Jesus made

because this phrase that

was such a fishbone in the

throat, a huge fishbone,

like a shark bone, in the

throat of these eastern

Christians actually had

risen originally as words

of mercy and kindness from

Jesus.

Isn't this crazy?

That in other words, a

gift turned into a reason

to fight.

I'd like to invite you to

take your Bible and turn

with me to one of two

major places in Scripture

where that filioque, where

that "and the Son," idea

came from.

And it's not that the

Catholic theologians were

such idiots, it's just the

way they did it is what

made it so bad and the

fact that they did not

respect the consciences of

their orthodox brothers

and sisters in the east.

Turn to John 14 and we're

going to take another

little visit to the upper

room.

And I'd like to go with

you now to chapter 14 and

if you let your eye slide

down the page about to

verse 25, Jesus had

predicted both Judas'

betrayal, he predicted

Peter's denial, he was

talking about the attacks

of the evil one.

Last week, I did the Bible

study with you about

coming to the upper room

for a warning and letting

Jesus warn you.

He said to Peter, "Satan,"

Simon Peter, "Satan has

asked to sift you like

wheat, Simon.

But after you have been

restored, restore your

brothers."

So actually said the

Father, the Spirit and I,

were going to let Satan

tempt you for your own

growth.

You have to choose to

follow me.

We can't manipulate you or

don't want to manipulate

you like a puppet.

You have got to choose it

for yourself and that

means we are going to let

you make up your own mind.

But you're going to fail.

He's going to sift you

like wheat and

unfortunately, he's going

to sift you right out.

But you can be restored.

We'll put you back on your

feet and then you can be

valuable in helping

others.

Now here comes some words

of comfort and some words

of sweet promise for his

disciples and all of the

people of God who are

going to fall into the

clutches of the evil one

and have to struggle in a

struggle for their soul

over what's going on in

their heart and in their

mind.

In verse 25 Jesus said,

"All this I have spoken

while still with you."

And he's getting them

ready because basically

their seminary training

was just about done.

They were in their final

year of training, their

final month.

In fact, literally their

final days of hands on

training and he's about

ready to send them out

into the world.

"But the Counselor, the

Holy Spirit, whom the

Father will send in my

name," see there's the

filioque; that the Spirit

comes out of and is sent

by the Father but also

with Jesus.

This is the point that

those Latin theologians

had tried to make: That

the Holy Spirit is not

disconnected from Christ

but the trinity all works

together and everything

flows right through - if

it flows through one it

flows through them all.

And what Jesus though

intended is that this

would be great comfort.

The word translated in

English here is counselor

is not bad; that's not a

bad translation of a Greek

word, parakletos, which is

almost untranslatable.

What it really means is to

be a coach.

It means to do for you

what coaches do for their

athletes.

Now how can you sum up a

coach's functions in one

word?

Very hard to do, isn't it?

Coaches, first of all,

teach you the game.

They train you with

repetitive exercises to

get your head into your

role so you know what your

job is.

They ruthlessly work you

out to tune up your body

and get your body as

strong and flexible and

agile as possible.

When they see you dogging

it and being lazy, they

will yell at you.

They will scream at you to

get moving and they'll be

merciless at you like a

marine drill sergeant.

They're being cruel to

make you better.

But also when they see you

suffer a reverse or a

defeat, they'll be the

first ones there to put

your arm around you and

they give you some

consolation.

What they're looking for

is your effort and they

will be there to encourage

you when you struggle.

They'll be the ones

clapping for you with a

stopwatch when it's

getting dark and you're

still practicing.

And they're the ones

hollering faster, "Come

on, you can do it!

Come on, you can do it!

Come on, you can do it!"

And that is a beautiful

description of what a

parakletos does for us;

what the Holy Spirit does

for you and for me.

He does all those things

for us and he does it

through the word.

See, Jesus was preparing

the disciples for his

absence.

How can separation be a

good thing?

How in any possible way

could Jesus' departure -

first his death and then

he's going to rise again -

so he's going to leave

them once, come back

briefly, and then ascend

into heaven.

How on earth is that good

news for the disciples?

They hated that!

They were sick when he

would talk like that.

And he said it's better

for you if I do,

seriously, because the

Holy Spirit and I are

going to kind of trade

places in advancing the

agenda.

Neither of us is leaving

you.

I'm not abandoning you.

But there is something

coming that isn't going to

happen until I step to the

side.

It's not going to diminish

Christ in any way but he

said I need to leave so

that the Spirit can come.

Now the Holy Spirit was

always there.

The Old Testament is full

of references to the

Spirit of the Lord.

And Jesus is going to

leave but he's not going

to leave his presence;

just his physical presence

will leave.

Jesus told his disciples,

"I will be with you always

to the very end of the

age."

So Jesus and the Spirit

have always been there for

the people of God.

But what's going to change

here is right now Jesus is

driving the agenda and

he's the focal point.

Starting with the day of

Pentecost, the Holy Spirit

is going to come - not

that he never was there -

but he's going to come

with unusual and extra

gifts.

Not just to flow into the

people as he had but to

have an outpouring, a

gusher, to help this

transition into what we

call the New Testament

era.

And that's what Jesus is

telling his disciples you

can count on.

You are going to be sifted

and tested.

Your work and ministry

ahead will be hard.

You will encounter a lot

of resistance.

He actually predicted the

abuse they were going to

get from their family and

from their society, from

their friends, and they

would face a lot of

opposition and resentment

and hostility.

But he said, "It's all

good."

Those aren't signs of

failure.

That just means if people

did that to me and I'm

your master, how will they

not do that to you, as

well?

Relax.

Just relax.

It's all part of the plan.

And this is how the

Father's agenda will be

carried out.

"The Counselor, the Holy

Spirit whom the Father

will send in my name," is

going to do two things.

He's going to "Teach you

all things," and he's

going to "remind you of

everything I've said to

you."

Teaching and reminding.

The Spirit functions

through the word; that's

his vehicle.

Wherever the word of God

is, the Holy Spirit is

fluttering around and you

might see a few dove

feathers on the ground

after you've finished your

Bible study.

You might feel a little

puff of the holy wind, the

breath, spirit, on your

cheek.

Every time you read the

Bible, you will hear the

words of God himself as

the Spirit whispers them

to you.

If you want to know what's

on God's mind, just get

into the word and the

Spirit will tell you

what's on God's mind.

Don't call God remote and

inaccessible; he dumps the

bag to you but you won't

know it if you don't get

into it.

Everything we really need

to know about God is in

the Scripture but it's

revealed knowledge; you

don't have it in you by

nature.

Other than your

conscience, which is a

little moral compass that

tells you when you are

doing in alignment with

God's will, you feel good.

Even people who have never

cracked a Bible feel good

when they do something in

alignment with God.

And when they do something

against God's will, they

feel guilt.

Even total unbelievers

feel guilt; they know

guilt because of their

conscience but they don't

know a thing to do about

it and they don't know a

thing about the God who

made them.

You know, one of the most

- sorry to go on a little

bit of a rant here - but

one of the most famous

magazines anywhere of all

time is the one with

completely yellow borders

around it, kind of

rectangular, kind of thick

and heavy, always printed

on glossy paper.

You know what I'm talking

about.

The National Geographic.

And I was reading one

article the other day

about eyes, animal eyes,

and all the amazing

incredible variety in the

animal kingdom of how

people receive visual

information and how it's

then translated through

the wiring inside their

little heads, in the

insect world for instance,

and gets to become useful

information for them to

feed and to reproduce, to

find one another, and to

interact with the wider

world.

And there were gigantic

close up photographs, for

instance, of let's say fly

eyes, which are made up of

literally hundreds or even

thousands of tiny lenses

that enable them to see

almost in all directions

at the same time.

And at first I was

infuriated by the

gibberish narrative that

went with it explaining

how all by itself these

like protoplasm had

morphed itself - with no

guidance or design or

blueprints - morphed

itself into these insanely

complex miracles of design

and engineering and I

thought, "How can you say

such ridiculous gibberish?

That there's no

designer?

That it all just sort of

happened?"

Like the flies needed to

see where they were flying

so their tissue invented

eyes so they could see.

Is that like, "What?"

And then it dawned on me

I'm judging them as though

they had the Spirit of the

Lord.

That writer did not have

the Spirit to teach them

and to remind them.

Unless the knowledge of

God is revealed to you,

you have no idea where you

came from, what you're

doing here, what is the

purpose of your life, is

there a mission, is there

meaning?

Are there absolute

standards for my behavior

or am I pretty much on my

own to do whatever I can

get away with?

And where am I going?

Is there any objective

information out there for

me?

Aside from the Bible,

there is none.

And so it calmed me down

as I realized the best

possible thing I could do

with that writer is go

have some coffee someplace

and let him have a little

bit of the word.

He can't figure it out -

or she; I don't remember

the gender of the writer -

they can't figure it out

because it's not been

revealed to them.

So they grasp for any

explanation of whatever's

left.

And if you leave God out

of the description of

where did the universe

come from, where did the

human race come from, what

are we doing here and

where are we going, and

you cut God and the Bible

out of it, all you've got

left is a bunch of

cockamamie notions that

make no sense whatsoever

but that's all that's left

so people believe what

seems to them the most

rational of what's left.

And the fact that it's

nonsense means, "Well, my

nonsense is as good as

your nonsense."

But still, you are

disconnected from God.

The Spirit that Jesus

promised connects you to

God, connects you to the

truth, tells you the truth

about yourself, why it is

that your life is so hard,

why it is that you feel

pain, and why it is that

you're dying.

But it also tells you how

precious you are, it tells

you you're created and

designed by the great

Master above, tells you

that you matter to him,

that you have value, that

you did not invent

yourself, that you were

made, designed and built.

That you were made for a

purpose to have

connections with each

other.

You were made to bond to

other people and you were

made even more importantly

to bond to him.

And that you have been

given a mission and an

agenda for your life,

which is not to enrich

yourself - God may or may

not give you material

treasures and he frankly

gets his job done, his

mission, done in you

either way.

Sometimes he's spoils you

by giving you plenty and

sometimes he toughens you

up by taking things away

from you.

He can work - God works

his math both by addition

and subtraction; sometimes

by multiplication and

division.

But his main mission for

you is to be connected to

him and then to be

connected with each other.

And all the stuff

happening to you is all

part of that agenda and

Jesus wanted his disciples

not to panic.

He said, "Peace I leave

with you, my peace I give

you.

I don't give to you as the

world gives.

Don't let your hearts be

troubled.

Don't be afraid."

Some of them sitting here

just a short time later

are going to watch the

stoning of Stephen.

They're going to see it

and hear about it.

Don't let your heart be

troubled when the rocks

are slamming into Stephen.

Don't let your heart be

troubled when one of them

finally hits his head with

such force that it kills

him.

James, the apostle James,

who's listening to this

doesn't know it but he's

in basically the last

months of his life.

He's going to be beheaded

not long after this upper

room event.

Don't let your heart be

troubled, James.

You'll be dead soon.

And you think what?

If you knew that you were

going to be beheaded in a

few months, wouldn't your

heart be troubled?

Jesus, what are you

saying?

What he's saying is the

length of your life is

nothing compared to

eternity.

Whether you live a few

more months on this earth

is utterly meaningless in

the vast reach of

eternity; time without

limit, time without end.

What matters is what you

do with what you've got

right now.

What matters is how

aligned am I with God's

plan for me and his

opportunities for me?

All the disciples - with

the exception possibly of

John - were going to

become martyrs.

Jesus is saying, "Don't

let your heart be

troubled.

That's not a defeat.

That's not a loss."

You will not die one

minute sooner than your

agenda, your mission, for

your life has been going.

Your mission must be

completed before I will

allow you to pass away.

Relax.

Don't let your heart be

troubled.

I have overcome the world

for the death of Christ

himself was not a disaster

for as he was abused,

don't let your heart be

troubled, disciples, when

you see me arrested.

Relax.

It's part of the plan.

Don't let your heart be

troubled when you see me

rejected and condemned.

Don't let your heart be

troubled when you see me

flogged and whipped.

Don't let your heart be

troubled when you see me

hauled up and nailed to a

cross; you see the blood

coming from me.

John was going to be close

enough to see the blood

coming out of his face

from the crown of thorns

Don't let your heart be

troubled.

What?

How could your heart not

be sick at what you're

seeing?

Don't let your heart be

troubled.

It's all good.

Don't let your heart be

troubled when I ascend

into heaven for I'm

sending the Counselor

who's going to make you

strong.

He's going to explain

what's been going on and

he will remind you of all

the stuff you forgot and

fit it together so that it

will make sense for you

and give you a framework

for living your life and

doing your God-given

ministry to connect with

people who you are, where

you are, where he's placed

you.

My peace I give you.

Just exhale.

You know, just let that

peace flow through you.

Through the work of the

Son of God, you now have

God's favor upon you.

God smiles when he looks

at you.

You may enjoy the feeling

of being precious and

valuable.

Only Jesus could say that

because frankly, some

stuff about God is kind of

creepy, isn't it?

Do you want his burning,

holy eyeballs on you all

the time?

Seeing every stupid thing

you've ever done?

Hearing every dumb word

that's come out of your

mouth?

Doesn't that make you kind

of squirm when you think

that he sees everything?

I don't even want to go

into all the stuff because

I don't want to like freak

you out but he's seeing

everything you've done in

your life.

Does that - the stuff

you're ashamed of; you

hope nobody else ever

finds out about you - and

God saw it all.

Is that creepy?

Is that scary?

Does that make you want to

run away?

Does it make you want to

hide?

Does it make you feel

unworthy?

The blood of Jesus washes

it away so that God sees

and knows all those things

and has decided they are

now irrelevant in the

trial through which you

will pass when you die.

I don't have to go through

a trial where all my

foolish misdeeds are going

to be put on display for

the world and I'm going to

step through the gate

sideways to roaring

applause, Jesus smiling

and saying, "Well done

good and faithful

servant."

I'm going to be looking

around going like, "Who

are you talking to?"

and it's going to be me!

And that's going to be

you!

Relax.

Let his peace flow through

you.

It's all good.

The stuff he sends in your

life is all good.

He spoils you with stuff

to encourage you to be

generous hoping you don't

become addicted to it and

he takes things away from

you not to beat you down,

not because it's a

judgment, you're not

getting punished for your

sins.

If you suffer a financial

reverse, if your health

gets really bad and if you

lose your ability to walk

gracefully and you start

to limp or you slow down

to the point where you

need some kind of piece of

machinery to move around,

that's not a sign of

punishment.

It's just part of the mess

we all have to slide

through to get to the

entrance gates to paradise

where an army of people we

love are waiting and where

the Father is smiling and

the Son is saying,

"Welcome home.

You made it!"

Let his peace flow through

you.

If he can say that to the

disciples who were facing

- going to be facing

severe temptation, just

relax about whatever is

going on in your life and

let the Spirit through his

word help you see and

believe how precious you

are, that you are loved

and forgiven of all your

sins, that your life

really matters to God,

that he does not judge you

on the basis of how much

wealth you have or how

much stuff you've been

able to collect or how

much power you have over

other people or how

prestigious you are or how

many people know your

name.

Utterly irrelevant to God.

He just wants to know have

you been useful to me?

Have you spoken my name so

that other fools and

sinners might hear of my

peace?

And then enter into the

joy of your Lord.

And the Counselor, the

Comforter, the Holy

Spirit, is the one who

guarantees this for you.

Don't listen to me.

Let the Spirit speak to

you through his word.

This is good news for

God's people.

Let everybody say

[Audience: Amen].

[MUSIC]

[PASTOR NOVOTNY]

The other day, one of my

friends used a phrase that

I haven't forgotten since.

He said he was struggling

with "Christian guilt."

That meant he knew he was

a Christian, he knew that

Jesus died for him, and

yet, he still carried this

guilt with him of the sins

he couldn't shake.

Now, I thought about

something I heard way back

in my schooling days about

the times when we should

turn to certain parts of

God's word and times when

we should turn to certain

other parts of God's word.

There are occasions in

life when we should really

think about ourselves and

the commandments of God

and our obedience; the law

of God.

And there's other times

when we shouldn't think at

all about that and instead

just think about Jesus and

grace and mercy and

forgiveness.

I think what my friend was

struggling with is pretty

common.

We fall into a sin and we

think about ourselves and

ourselves and what we can

do and how we can improve

and we're so self-focused

that we lose hope and we

lose joy and we lose

peace.

But whenever sin has done

its work in our hearts and

the law has convicted us,

there's only one place to

go and it's not back to

ourselves, it's not back

to the law.

Instead, it's just to fix

our eyes on Jesus Christ.

I've learned as a pastor

over the years that people

so quickly want to say,

"Yeah, I know, that

pastor," and then go back

to their obedience.

But what God is asking us

to do once the law has

convicted our hearts is to

sit for a long time and

meditate on the great

grace of our Savior Jesus.

It's only then that the

heart is stirred.

It's only then that we

love God more and more.

It's only then that

Christ's love compels us

not to live for ourselves

but for the one who died

for us and was raised

again.

I'll be back in a moment

with you to pray.

[PASTOR NOVOTNY] This

ministry would definitely

not be possible without

you, without your powerful

prayers that you make in

faith, and without the

generous gifts that you

give time and time again.

We are so thankful for

your support that allows

the ministry of God's

grace and mercy to go to

new hearts each and every

week.

And so would you join me

today and pray?

Dear Holy Spirit, We pray

to you today because you

are God and because we

need the comfort that only

you can give.

Fix our eyes on Jesus.

Sanctify our hearts and

remind us that we are holy

because of what Jesus has

done.

When the law has done its

work deep within us, help

us not give into that

temptation to turn back to

the wrong passages in

Scripture but instead to

think about the crazy

gospel, the good news,

that is proclaimed on the

pages that you yourself

inspired.

Would you guide us, Holy

Spirit?

Counsel us and give us

wisdom.

As we face questions right

now that we can't answer,

temptations that we can't

resist without you, we are

so desperate for your

help, so help us.

In your mercy, fill our

hearts and overflow into

our lives.

We pray these things with

boldness because you have

Your Treasure Within Frees You From Shame with Gloria & Kellie Copeland (Air Date 3-16-17) - Duration: 22:36.

(Singing) I know my God has made the way for

me. I know my God has made the way for me.

ANNOUNCER: Turn your heart toward God and give no

foothold for the devil. Today on the Believer's Voice of Victory

Gloria and Kellie Copeland bring knowledge of the treasure

within you, which is the presence of the Holy Spirit.

GLORIA: Hello, everybody. I'm Gloria Copeland, and

welcome to the Believer's Voice of Victory. Hallelujah.

Kellie Copeland's with us today, and she's given

us some good word. Hallelujah. KELLIE: We've been taking the

wrapper off of the devil's tricks this morning. GLORIA: He

needs it. He deserves everything we can give him. KELLIE: He's

not going to bring us down with pride or shame. GLORIA: No, no.

KELLIE: We've talked about shame a lot this last couple of days.

And you really hit it yesterday about, it's really easy to

repent and receive forgiveness. GLORIA: Yeah. KELLIE: Satan

knows that so he tries to hide. That's where we have to--but we

also have a Holy Spirit that leads us to repentance. And, you

know, leading us to repentance is not just about making us feel

regretful or sorry or apologetic for something. That's part of

it. But he can lead us to things that we need to repent of that

we are not aware of. GLORIA: Yeah, that's right. KELLIE: And

yesterday, we talked about hidden shame, like how shame

works. If you didn't join us yesterday for that broadcast,

please go back and listen. I've--the realization of how

shame works was one of the most amazing realizations to me. And

it just took shame out of the hands of Satan to use against

me. GLORIA: Praise God. Amen. KELLIE: Because, you know,

anything obvious, we know what to do. If we've been in the Word

very long or you've listened to Mom and Dad very long, you know

what to do with the obvious. You take authority over it, you ask

forgiveness, it's done. GLORIA: Repent. KELLIE: We know how to

receive that. But Satan would like to trick us, and he would

like to have a foothold in our life. And if he can get a

foothold, he can get a stronghold. But we're not giving

him a foothold, we're not giving him a stronghold. So we talked

about two different kinds of shame yesterday, with the

obvious, you did something wrong, you repent, you receive

forgiveness, it's done. Don't receive shame again-- GLORIA: Go

forward. KELLIE: --after it. GLORIA: That's right. KELLIE: Go

back and stand on faith. And you have to put the Word in, about

the Word says that when you repent, He forgives you. GLORIA:

He's faithful and just. KELLIE: He's faithful and just to

forgive us-- GLORIA: Praise God. KELLIE: --of our sin. GLORIA:

And He is. KELLIE: Put the Word in, and that'll rise up in your

heart. But then there's the hiding shame that--from stuff

that you may not even remember from when you were a kid, or

something that you did you thought wasn't important, but

Satan can use it against you. But you have to let the Lord

show you those things. He can reveal to you. And Psalm 19:12

says, "He can show you the sins that lurk in your heart" so that

they can't affect you, so you can receive forgiveness for

those. Then today, though, is something that we're going to

talk about shame. This type of shame is shame for things that

we know in our head we shouldn't be ashamed of. That's what I

want to deal with today. GLORIA: That'll be interesting. KELLIE:

We're going to go--ha-ha-ha. We're going to go in II

Corinthians 4 to talk about some things. You know, a lot of the

time people feel like if they are--if they get sick, they must

not be a faith person. Now, if I said that to you, you'd say,

"Well, that's not true." And for most people, if I said, "You

know, you should be ashamed that you got sick," they would go,

"Well, you know, that's not my fault." GLORIA: That's right.

KELLIE: Or shamed that there is a challenge, a shame that--it

may even be that you're dealing with somebody else or have a

relationship with someone else, and they're going through things

that cause you to feel shame for yourself. If your kids do--you

know, start doing things that are not right, it's easy to take

on shame. Well, you can't take on the shame of another, either.

We're not the Savior. But anything we take and don't give

to Jesus He's left not being able to help us like He wants

to. GLORIA: Amen. KELLIE: So I want to talk about that kind of

shame today, maybe tomorrow, see how long it takes us to get

through. Because we're talking about uncovering this week, we

are uncovering and unlocking the treasure within. So we talked

about pride, shame. You get rid of those things, and what's in

us can begin to come out. We have a great treasure on the

inside, and we're going to look at that today. But also, you

know, these things keep us out of the presence of God. They

keep His presence from being more tangible in our lives. I

mean, He's always with us, but, you know, like--it can feel like

He's not. The funny thing is we can have all these mechanisms in

place, like shame or pride and things like that, causing us to

filter what God is saying out, and not hear it and turn our

back on what God is saying and doing. And somehow when we turn

our back on God, we can feel abandoned. It doesn't even make

sense, but that's the way Satan wants it to occur. Then you just

feel like-- GLORIA: That's called deception. KELLIE: It is.

It's very deceiving. GLORIA: That's what he does. KELLIE: If

you feel abandoned by God, I would encourage you to really

pay attention-- GLORIA: Yes. KELLIE: --today and next week,

because God has not abandoned us. We are children of God, we

are heirs of the promise, we are--I am a daughter of God.

GLORIA: Amen. KELLIE: He has not abandoned me. And we're going to

kind of dig into, start cracking that open today. GLORIA: Some

people don't want to take any responsibility. They think it's

God, "He's doing this to me." It's not God. KELLIE: No.

GLORIA: He's trying to help you. He's done everything He can to

get you free. KELLIE: And, you know, if you've--sometimes

people feel like they go around the same circle over and over

again, like-- GLORIA: And they do because they-- KELLIE: And

they do. GLORIA: --keep going around. KELLIE: And if that's

the case, you need to ask the Lord to go in. GLORIA: Yeah.

KELLIE: Pray Psalm 19:12. Ask Him to show you where there's a

weak place in your mind, your will, and your emotions. Listen,

if you're born again, your spirit is born again. But our

minds are renewed day by day. Our minds-- "In our minds," as

Joyce Meyer says, "is the battlefield." Brother Jerry says

that too. That's the battlefield, is in your soul;

your mind, your will, and your emotions. GLORIA: Yeah. KELLIE:

So the Lord's teaching us about our emotions. GLORIA: Praise

God. KELLIE: You and I, Mom--last year, you and I did

some broadcasts. It was early on in the year. And we talked about

your feelings. Did you know feelings are not a dirty word.

You know, you can have feelings, because God gave you feelings.

You just don't want to--you just don't want to be led by them.

You want to know what they are, understand what they are.

GLORIA: We have emotions. KELLIE: We have them, we have

emotions. They're wonderful. Emotions are wonderful. Imagine

trying to live a life with your family, your children or your

husband or your life or your parents without emotion. You

know, it doesn't work. You can't have a close relationship with

emotions-- GLORIA: That's right. KELLIE: --yet people have tried

to take our emotions and set them over here and have a

relationship with God without your emotions involved. You're

going to have--you're not going to have a full relationship with

the Lord. So He's restoring so many things to us. He is the

restorer. And today, I believe what He wants to restore in you

is a knowledge of what's on the inside. So, let's start in II

Corinthians. And remember, we're going to kind of hit on some

things, some areas of shame for things that you should not

feel--let the devil make you feel ashamed of. So in II

Corinthians 3--which we are going to open up some things in

II Corinthians 3 next week. But I don't think we'll get there

today. But, it's talking about turning to Jesus, turning--it

says, "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." We

talked about, the other day, that freedom is messy. When

stuff starts coming out, you want to be ashamed of it. Don't

be ashamed of it. You want to blame the devil. Don't blame the

devil. If anything comes out about your life or somebody

else's, it's not the devil. It's God. It's the grace of God that

exposes us. So we just need to--now, the devil will lie

about you. The devil will tell lies on you. That's not what I'm

talking about. But if we're doing something or somebody--

GLORIA: He lies to everybody. KELLIE: --in the family's doing

something, it's not the devil that-- GLORIA: To everybody.

KELLIE: --that exposes. It's the grace of God, because exposure

brings--you have to deal with something-- GLORIA: Brings it to

the light. KELLIE: --that's exposed. It brings to the light.

And when it hits the light, Satan is done playing with it.

GLORIA: That's right. KELLIE: God can help you when it comes

to the light. GLORIA: Amen. KELLIE: So He's talking about

seeing the Lord, and the Lord who is a Spirit makes us more

and more like Him as we change into His glorious image. We're

going to break that down next week. But this says, in Chapter

4, II Corinthians 4:1, "Therefore," because of freedom,

because of Jesus, because of His--we're changing into His

image, "we never give up. We reject all shameful deeds--"

See, I reject all shameful deeds. GLORIA: I reject all

shameful deeds. KELLIE: That's what we're doing this week,

we're rejecting these things. "--and underhanded methods. We

don't try to trick anyone or distort the Word of God. We tell

the truth before God, and all who are honest know this." I

just felt like I just need to establish, this is a new day.

He's saying we don't need to manipulate. You know, when you

have shame in your life and you can't--especially as a

minister--when you can't fully function in God, you'll start

finding other ways to get stuff done, whether you're a minister,

a parent--you know, a parent, it's easy to use manipulation on

your kids. But manipulation doesn't work. So, you know, go

with the anointing. Go with God, go with Him showing you the

wisdom on how to do things. GLORIA: Amen. KELLIE: It

says--I'm going to skip down to Verse 5. "You see, we don't go

around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus

Christ is Lord, and ourselves are your servants for Jesus'

sake." You know, it's a really easy, easy thing as a minister

to get to feeling like it is somehow about you. GLORIA: Now,

what translation-- KELLIE: New Living. GLORIA: New Living.

KELLIE: New Living. You can easily feel like, "Man, if my

life doesn't stack up just perfectly, somebody's going to

fail." Or "if my life gets exposed, and--that I'm not

perfect, then the ministry can't handle that." That is a lie. The

ministry is not about our perfection. I mean, we do

everything we know to do to do the Word right and to live

right. And if you're not doing that, and if you're not

pursuing--yeah, pleasing the Lord with your--I mean, He's

pleased with us and loves us. But our actions have fruit. And

you can't get away from the fact that your actions have fruit and

actions have consequences, you know. It's easy to tell our kids

that, but we all have to remember that. What we do, how

we act has consequences. And--but yet we're not perfect.

And you know, everybody--sometimes it seems

like everybody but ourselves knows that, like everybody knows

I'm not perfect, but sometimes I get to feeling-- GLORIA: You're

not? KELLIE: You didn't know? GLORIA: So disappointed. KELLIE:

And I'm good. I've hidden it from my mother all these years.

(Both Laugh) GLORIA: No. KELLIE: No. We know we're not perfect.

GLORIA: You're pretty close. KELLIE: Mother. I was saying

that about you. GLORIA: You're a good girl. KELLIE: Well, you

know, we get to thinking, though, that somehow we have to

be perfect. But we're not called to perfection in ourselves.

GLORIA: Well, if we had to be perfect, and if there weren't an

opportunity for us to be otherwise, there wouldn't be

anything about repenting in the Bible. KELLIE: And we wouldn't

need a Savior. GLORIA: Well, that's true. KELLIE: And we--you

know, we have a Savior. GLORIA: We do need a Savior. KELLIE: We

need Him. And I think, until I began letting the Lord dig some

of these things out of me, I didn't even--it's like you know

you need a Savior, but I didn't know how much I needed a Savior,

so I didn't know how much I had a Savior. Because if it's all

about your own perfection, people who can't be wrong, they

can't be corrected, they can't be--you know, they--they just

have to be perfect, the world has to be perfect; they can't be

perfect, they can't let anybody see any imperfection in them.

It's hard to have a Savior--it's hard to know that He saves when

you won't let Him save you, and you won't acknowledge some of

these things. But the beautiful thing is, when you start letting

the Lord dig around in you, and you start acknowledging that you

need Him-- GLORIA: Yeah. KELLIE: --He's right there. He wants you

to let him in. GLORIA: He'll bring things up for you to get

rid of. KELLIE: He will. And it's like--I mean, for me--

GLORIA: And you'll be free. You'll know the truth, and the

truth makes you free. KELLIE: That's right. But for me, I

mean, I might as well--and I didn't, but I might as well

have--needed to be delivered from drugs and alcohol and

illicit sex or whatever horrible things, you know, you might

think are really bad. And maybe you're dealing with some of

those today. It's the same process for a gossiper. GLORIA:

And then it's interesting to know that our commandment is to

walk in love. KELLIE: That's the biggest commandment. If we're

not walking in love, we're--we're worse than all of

them. And so when He digs--whatever He digs out of

you--even if you think, "Well, I think I'm doing pretty good,"

well, we're going to let Him dig out pride and-- GLORIA: Yeah,

yeah. KELLIE: --all the other things. GLORIA: Really. That's

right. KELLIE: Self-assuredness. Because when you let Him do

that, you just get to know Him in such an amazing way. Anyway,

that was my experience with Him. But what can stop that from

happening is, like we said, shame. So sometimes when we

don't feel like our--when we feel like our perfection is

being challenged, that can be a place of shame. It says, "God

who said--" This is so good, Mom. This--one day I was

driving, and I was listening to a song on the radio--not on the

radio. I was listening to a download that I had--brand-new

song I had gotten. It was talking about, let there be

light. It was talking about, let there--obviously, let there be

light. They said something in there, and it went off in me.

And when I got home, I started digging it out in the Word. And

I had a realization that was from this Scripture about what

is in us and just how clear it is that it is not about us and

what that means and how Satan's tried to trick us to make it

about us. He said, "God who said, 'Let there be light in the

darkness,' has made this shine in our hearts so we could know

the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ." Now,

I know--you may be thinking, "Okay, what is she getting at?

I've heard that Scripture before." Okay, we're going to

hold your place right there. Put my little pen there, and I want

us to go to Genesis. You know, one of the--while we're turning

there, I think it's very interesting, Genesis 2--it's

very interesting that one of the first, very first things Satan

did was, as soon as people hit the planet, as soon as God made

people-- GLORIA: He lied to them. KELLIE: He lied to them.

He led them to lift up themselves in pride. And then

the next thing, he cut them down with shame. GLORIA: Well, see,

that way he has authority--he takes authority over them.

KELLIE: And then when God is in the presence-- GLORIA: Yeah.

KELLIE: --instead of running to Him, they hid. GLORIA: That's

right. KELLIE: And think about what they, in essence, said. I

wrote this down like this. In essence, this is what happened.

Hear the shame in this, because Satan hasn't changed. Hear this.

This is not really what I'm talking about. I'm just pointing

this out. So they say to God, "I heard your voice. I was

uncovered, and I was afraid," or I was ashamed. GLORIA: Naked.

KELLIE: Naked. We just have not wanted to get naked in front of

God. (Both Laugh) I don't mean physically. But the stuff. We

have not allowed Him the access to the stuff in our lives like

He's wanting to get it-- GLORIA: Like we could hide something

from Him. KELLIE: Yeah. GLORIA: That's impossible. KELLIE: And

He's wanted to get at it not to reprimand us, but to bring us

into His presence, to bring us up to fix it. So, anyway, that's

not what I was talking about in here, but it was good to point

out. So hold the thought that we just left. Go to Genesis 2. And

in Verse 4, it says, "This is an account of the creation of the

heavens and the earth. When the Lord God made the earth and the

heavens, neither the wild plants nor grains were growing on the

earth. For the Lord God had not yet sent rain to water the

earth, and there were no people to cultivate the soil." You're

thinking, why am I reading this? Look at what comes next. He

says-- GLORIA: You'll have to give me verses because I'm not

reading-- KELLIE: Sorry. I apologize. GLORIA: --the same

translation. KELLIE: Verse 6, Genesis 2:6. GLORIA: Okay.

KELLIE: "Instead, springs came up from the ground and watered

all the land." Now, I used to always think the reason that's

in there is just talking about the plants and the grains. But I

don't think that anymore. God's very purposeful in all the

things that He says. "Springs came up from the ground and

watered all the land." So we have one ingredient here, water.

"Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the

ground." Okay, water, dirt. Okay. Hold your place here and

then let's go back. Just hold your place right there. "God,

who said, 'Let there be light in the darkness' has made this

light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that

is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. We now have this light

shining in our hearts, but we ourselves--" my Bible says, "are

like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure."

Wait. We are like fragile clay jars containing a treasure. What

treasure? The God that said, "Let there be light in the

darkness" has made that light, that very same light, shine in

our hearts. So it says, "We are like fragile clay jars

containing" that light that He spoke. Let's go back and read it

again to what He said when He spoke it. God formed man, He had

water. God formed man from water and dirt. What is that? GLORIA:

Mud. KELLIE: Mud or clay. So, really, we are not like fragile

clay jars. These bodies take--if you separate these bodies from

the special treasure that's on the inside of us, that's exactly

what it is, a clay pot. It's the way God created it. And

without--it's the thing on the inside of us that's special.

It's the thing on the-- GLORIA: A spirit. KELLIE: --inside of us

that becomes indestructible. He says--now listen to this: "He

breathed the breath of life into man's nostrils, and man became a

living person," "a speaking spirit," one translation says.

So when it says here, "We have this light shining in our

hearts, but we're like fragile clay jars," this makes it clear

that our great power is from God and not from ourselves. This

hearkens back to the very beginning when He made a clay

pot, and He breathed himself into Adam. That's exactly what

we are. We are a--when stuff goes on--is what we're going to

talk about tomorrow. Stuff goes on in the body, stuff goes on

in--around us, that is just clay pot stuff. We have a special

treasure on the inside. And that's what makes us special.

That's what makes us unique, and that's what makes us win.

GLORIA: Praise God. That's good, Kellie. KELLIE: More about that

tomorrow. GLORIA: More about that. Don't miss

it. KELLIE: Cliffhanger. GLORIA: We'll see you then.

Lesbian Dating: How to Know If a Woman is Interested In You - Duration: 3:06.

[music]

hi I'm dr. Frankie and today I'm responding to a question that was

submitted to ask dr. Frankie from Nicole

who resides in Washington DC she writes

I've been flirting with this girl from

work how do I know she's interested in

me

great question Nicole so the way you can

tell that somebody's interested is

there's several things one you can and

you might notice that they kind of

linger they might make you know find

excuses to sort of hang out around you

stand closer to you or just linger

maybe she has to get back to her job

focusing on her work and she sort of

making excuses to continue to hang out

with you. ANOTHER way to tell

somebody's interested is, they kind of

just laugh at whatever you say. Even if

what you're saying isn't even funny

they're giggling, they're smiling it's

nothing to notice that they're smiling a

lot and laughing is another sign

what else..... Sooo.....LEANING IN to you kind of

again it's not just like wanting to

stand around you but also body language

of wanting to come TOWARDS you.

Watning to come towards you and really focus on

you and maintaining eye contact with you

that's ANOTHER one. She might be wanting

to touch you? When people are flirting on

you'll notice that they kind of either

they might put their.... SHE may put

her arm around your waist, she may

touch your arm, your shoulder just

excuses to kind of, have physical touch

So notice: Eye Contact. Notice: Leaning in

Notice: Excuses to closer to you

Lingering... and maybe also another thing

is if she's asking you questions about

maybe a future event that she's thinking

you may know about or something that you

might be interested in if she's trying

to create conversation or discussing

about some specific event maybe an art

exhibit maybe a concert... something

like THAT. You want to pick up on that

think, "Oh! Well maybe this is the perfect

opportunity for me to invite her out

with me, to this event..." So she's giving

you sort of this idea about future ideas

kinda like future statements, she may

even say, "Hey I wonder....such-and-such

or so-and-so is coming to sing...

in the next fee weeks, and I'm

thinking of going.... Do you like that

group, do you like that artist and there is

your opportunity to go, "Yes! I like that

artist!" Even if it's not your favorite

artist, JUST LIKE that artist and then

you can go on a date with her!

So! Good luck to you and BE BOLD!

Learn American English With "Right" Phrases Like Native Speakers Use - Duration: 3:30.

Hi Guys! You want to be fluent in English

right? To be fluent in English means you

have to master the many ways the word

"right" is used. "Right" is used in a

sentence where someone wants to test

whether you believe them before agreeing

with them so an example is "You want to

be fluent in English, right?" with the

rising intonation and "right" at the end

of the sentence. Your natural response

would be

"Yes I do want to be fluent in English!" In

modern times this has been shortened

into a slang phrase where someone will

make a statement and the response is

just "Right?" meaning they have fully agree

with you or what you said is truthful

so for example "It's hot out today!" It's

so hot in your friend will say "Right?"

it means "I completely agree" or "This

political candidate is a right-wing

lunatic and dangerous for the country

right?" my friend said about that

hypothetical example. You can also hear

the phrase "Is that right? "You want to

become fluent in English is that right?"

or "Your hometown is Boston is that

right?" -

someone's using that to reconfirm what

they know about you or "I think this food

is delicious isn't that right?" is another

way someone will use "right?" to reconfirm

or to get a response from you.

Someone also might use "right" in the word

"Am I right?"

"This food is the best i've ever had, am

right?" and your response would be "Yes

you're right

you are correct!" unless you disagree so

these phrases with "right?" are used for

confirmation or to make a comment and

you hear them more and more frequently

in TV shows and movies and sometimes in

books this use of "right?" just that one

word to agree with someone or to show assent

has become more and more popular so

I do these videos on the usage of

American English to keep you updated on

how people actually speak. There's

old-fashioned forms of American English

phrases and slang that was popular in my

father's day in the nineteen twenties

and thirties but there's a lot more

modern slang that you should understand

because you will encounter it in

day-to-day conversations. Thank you for

watching these videos - I try hard to

teach something that's useful so please

subscribe - I'm doing a whole series so I

can help you become fluent in English

"You want to be fluent in English, right?

Right?"

"Am I right?" "Isn't that right?" - all those

will be useful to know. Thanks again and

please subscribe!
