Neon Ultra Review - Old School Twinstick Shooting Action - Duration: 2:50.
Do you remember the Vectrex?
Well if you're not ancient like I am, then.. probably not.
The Vectrex was a system designed to use vector graphics.
Something pretty advanced for the time and it came like this:
Yes, it is a system that is essentially just a monitor with a controller attached to it.
Because the system was only capable of graphics like this:
Many of its limited library involved shooting stuff. In Space.
The Vectrex was expensive and not exactly a smash hit.
Not to mention the fact that if the monitor dies there's not a lot you can do about it.
So it's not exactly a system you'll find lying around at garage sales any time soon.
So how is one supposed to get in some sweet vector-based shooting action
without spending loads on this thing or turning to emulation?
Well just take a look at Neon Ultra, an indie title on the PC.
While I don't think Neon Ultra's graphics are actually vector-based, they do have that appearance.
There's also a filter placed on top to give the game a sort of "blurry monitor" look.
I think it's kind of a neat effect but your mileage may vary on that.
Coming out of the Steam Greenlight program, Neon Ultra is a stripped down, arcade-like, twinstick shooter.
By "stripped down", I mean just that:
This game has a single game mode with very little added on.
Turn it on and shoot crap until you die and try to get the high score.
I'd describe the actual gameplay as a cross between Asteroids and Beat Hazard.
Movement is done with the left stick and the right stick is how you shoot.
Very much like Beat Hazard.
The Asteroids-like gameplay comes in with, well, all the asteroids flying into the screen.
Some of them are freakin' huge!
Besides asteroids, there are also little triangles that will fly in and shoot bullets at you
as well as other hazards showing up like arrows that fall down the screen.
With all of this and the brightly coloured powerups, the screen can turn into a huge smear of colours and shapes
making it quite a bit more difficult.
It's certainly got a lot more going on than the Vectrex ever did.
The last thing really of note is the music and it's suitably upbeat and techno-y.
There aren't loads of songs and it certainly no Shatter -
a game with one of the best soundtracks of this type ever -
but it's pretty decent considering.
Neon Ultra is a pretty small game but for the price you pay -
around 2 or 3 dollars -
it's a fun little distraction and worth it if you wanna just turn something on and shoot some crap for a while.

The Federal Highway Administration's Every Day Counts initiative is shining the innovation
spotlight on "Road Weather Management: Weather Savvy Roads."
Paul Pisano "Weather Savvy Roads, actually, is all about promoting two
different types of solutions to address the impacts that weather has on the highway system."
The first solution is the Pathfinder implementation plan.
Pathfinder is a collaborative effort between the National Weather Service, state DOTs and
the state DOT support contractors.
It lays out a multi-step process on what information to share when and how before, during and after
high-impact weather events so agencies provide consistent information to the travelling public.
Andrew Stern "It's all about making sure that people understand the hazards
on the roads, making sure that they make the best decisions to
protect themselves and their family."
The second solution is integrating mobile observations.
Government fleet vehicles are equipped with sensors that collect weather and road condition information.
The data is provided to management systems that help with maintenance decisions,
traveler advisories and warnings to improve safety and mobility.
Joe Huneke "It's been a very useful tool for us, both in collecting
data and for managing winter events.
Integrating mobile observations and Pathfinder
strategies can help agencies manage road systems and inform travelers ahead of, and during
adverse road weather conditions.

I'm Phylise Banner, Curator of the InSync Blended Learning Hub.
This month in the Hub, our learning campaign focuses on the modern learner.
There's been a lot of research these days about the characteristics and needs of modern
learners, including the Bersin Deloitte study that tells us our modern learners are overwhelmed,
distracted, and impatient.
So what does that mean for us, the practitioners that serve this demographic?
This week in the Hub, we explore the characteristics of the modern learner, along with the associated
research and the effective practices that can help us meet the needs of those learners
through formal and informal blended learning solutions.
We'll delve deeper into the Five Moments of Learner Need, and talk about how we can overcome
challenges to creating blended learning campaigns that include those formal and informal elements.
Think about how you meet the needs of your learners with formal training, or what we
call Push Learning and how your learners find their own materials in their moments of need,
more along the lines of Pull Learning.
There was a time when it wasn't so easy to access learning resources.
and it wasn't so long ago.
If we wanted to learn something back then, we needed to sign up for a class, in-person
or virtual, and wait until our scheduled session began, unless we were lucky enough to have
pre-work assigned, along with a reading, workbook, or homework.
But the times have changed, and technology has shifted the way we interact with so many
things, including learning.
We have access to so much at our finger tips, and we need to leverage that capacity to give
our learners the right material, at the right time, in the right place, for the right reason.
The learning assets in the Hub this week will help you become more familiar with the modern
learner and continue to guide the design, development, delivery, production, and facilitation
of your own blended learning solutions.
Take some time this week to explore the curated resources that I've shared with you, especially
the Bersin Deloitte infographic on the modern learner.
You'll see the data that supports the notion that our learners want learning that is untethered,
on demand, collaborative, and empowering.

An Introduction to Design Thinking - Duration: 3:10.

Hi!

I want to share with you the benefits of using design thinking to inform the way we design,
develop, and deliver modern blended learning solutions to serve our modern learners in
their moments of learning need.
Here at InSync, we focus on 5 specific phases of the design thinking approach to inform
the design, development, and delivery of modern blended learning.
We start with empathy.
We do a lot of needs assessment in our work, but are we really listening? In the empathy
phase our goal is to understand the learner within the context of our challenge, in this case
what they may want or need from a virtual learning community.
We need to get to the core of what is most meaningful to the modern learner.
To understand what their moments of learning need really are.
Next up, is the define phase.
Here's where we define the problem we're going to address based on what we've learned in
our needs assessment.
Sound familiar?
In this phase, our goal is to bring clarity and focus to the table and look for outstanding
issues and craft a meaningful and actionable problem statement.
Then, we ideate.
Here's where we through caution to the wind and dream big.
There's no bad idea.
This is an open space where imagination is cherished.
At this point, our goal is to move beyond the obvious and explore new opportunities
and solutions.
After that, it's prototype.
A prototype should showcase the experience someone would have when interacting with your
solution.
Within the design thinking framework, the prototype is a low-end solution that's easily
changeable.
It can be an outline, a whiteboard drawing, a storyboard, a mindmap, flashcards, or even
a collection of post-it notes.
It just needs to guide the conversation.
Low-end prototyping helps you see the issues you need to take into consideration and lets
you adapt, change, fail, and remake quickly.
And the last step is testing.
Here's where we ask for feedback and circle back to our empathy phase to see what works
and what needs more work.
The Stanford Design school has a great rule of thumb: "prototype as if you know you're
right, but test as if you know you're wrong."
Testing is a chance to refine your solutions and make them better.
These five phases model a mindful practice of designing, developing, and delivering modern
blended learning by: reminding us to consider our learners and empathize about how, when,
where, and why they learn; establishing learning objectives that are more in alignment with
learner needs, just business goals; tapping into creativity while encouraging collaboration
and dialogue during the design and development process; encouraging rapid development and
iteration of learning solutions while embracing failure as an option; and listening to learner
feedback and refining the blended learning solution to best meet the needs of our learners.

We live in an area of the world where high humidity and mould are a daily problem and our kids do get sick from time to time.
Because one of the parents has been diagnosed with Ulcerative colitis which may be passed to the kids(might be genetic)....
the use of antibiotic is something we try to avoid, we still use them but rarely.

HeatherAsh Amara - Her Books, Studies & Training - Duration: 7:01.
Hello, today we're here to talk with HeatherAsh Amara about her studies, her books and her
training. HeatherAsh, can you tell us a little bit about
yourself? I was raised in South-East Asia and travelling
all around the world, and that's really where I got interested in spiritual traditions and
learned how diverse we are as humans, and how much beauty there is there in the world.
And I actually started writing my first book when I was seven years old. I remember sitting
down with a piece of paper and starting to write and like, "I'm writing a book, it's
going to be great." In about a page in I went, "I don't think I have enough experience to
write this book.� So I went off and played. And 27 years later or whatever it's been,
I realized I do have something to say. I've been studying with Don Miguel Ruiz, and learning
The Four Agreements and learning a lot of the different Toltec teachings, and what started
me exploring writing at that point was realizing that myself and a lot of my friends, that
we were making really amazing changes in our life, but they weren't sticking. So, we make
a big shift and then we go back to old patterns. And so, I got really curious, why is this
happening? We're all powerful people, we've been learning these teachings that are so
comprehensive and yet it's not sticking. What I learned was that part of what's happening
is that when we go to make change, you imagine that we're born and create the structures
inside of ourselves that make us stable, that create a sense of identity. And then we got
this bright idea, I think I'll take the structures apart. The moment you start taking the structure
apart, what happens is we start feeling wobbly. And so we usually end up grabbing the old
structure and putting it back. And so, it was that realization, we just seen the new
structure that created my first book The Toltec Path of Transformation. And as I continue
to study the Toltec teachings, I was inspired to start a community because I saw that when
people come together and they're doing the same type of work, everything accelerates
tremendously. I was really grateful to help to foster community not only in local areas,
but also online. And that was then the foundation that birthed the Warrior Goddess movement.
So, you did write a book. Tell me about your book, Warrior Goddess Training.
Warrior Goddess Training came from my years of teaching women in circles. And when I moved
from California to Texas, I had women saying, "Please keep working with us." And that was
when I started long distance programs. So, I decided, "Okay, let's work together for
a year, I'll do coaching with you and I'll write an article every month." And that was
actually the birth of Warrior Goddess Training. And I love how much time I cultivated and
carved, and worked with the teaching for it to become this book. It's a fun story. My
publisher called me one day and said, "Okay, what's your next book after Toltec Path of
Transformation?" I'm like, "I don't know. I don't have a book." I was going through
a really hard time. And he said, �Well, give me something you�ve already written.�
And I was like, �Well I have this women's stuff.� He's like, "Let me see it." So,
we agreed that, that was the book. And then I got to go in and rewrite big chunks of Warrior
Goddess Training and bring it up-to-date. That was really a great joy. And the gift
with that book is that there's something as an offer that you can do which is the day
the book launches, you can call your friends and say, "Everybody, go buy the book on Amazon."
And shoots up to number one for an hour, or a day. And you can say I�m a best-selling
author and it�s all so cool, and then it falls back off to number 11,482. So we did
this, where I called my friends, it charted up to number one in Shamanism and Goddesses.
But what's unusual about Warrior Goddess Training is that it never came back down again. So
for the last two plus years now, it's been number one in those categories. And continues
to grow because we're hungry, we're looking for transformation. And Warrior Goddess Training
has really practical tools because that's what I believe in, how do we make transformation
actually happen, how do we stop just thinking about it or wishing for it, and how do we
bring it into action. Well, congratulations on being a best-selling
author. Once people have read the book and it speaks
to them, what are their options to go further? There's so many different ways that I've created
to help women to come together and go deeper with the teachings. One is we have a Warrior
Goddess Tribe Facebook page. There's amazing things that are happening there of women supporting
each other. There's also many workshops that I do. I do Warrior Goddess Weekends, and those
are 3 days that women from all over the world come together and learn and study the tools,
and take it out of the black and white pages and really into the color of life. And people,
women make best friends with each other, have life-long relationships, and create huge change
in their lives just over these 3 days. I also take groups to Mexico and to Peru. And I found
it's really helpful for us to get out of our everyday life, to go someplace beautiful,
to go someplace sacred, and to learn a new way of being, to come back into harmony with
ourselves, and then be able to bring that beauty back home. And I also have an extensive
online program because I'm so passionate about helping women wherever they are, I always
have women coming up to me saying, "How can I work with you? I live in the middle of nowhere."
And I say, "Great, come online with me." And the Warrior Goddess Training is an online
program where women from all over the world come together. They have access to me once
a week, we do classes every week. There's a really beautiful website with a lot of teachings
and there's many, many tools that aren't in the book, that aren't anywhere else.

I MEAN, DAVE COULDN'T POSSIBLY LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT ME.
I KNOW THAT BECAUSE I ALREADY KNOW WHAT MY WEAKNESS ARE AND
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT NOBODY WOULD WANT TO PUT UP WITH IF
THAT WAS ALL THEY FOCUSED ON.
AND I KNOW THAT THERE ARE THINGS ABOUT DAVE THAT I PROBABLY DON'T
CARE FOR, BUT TO BE HONEST, IF YOU ASK ME THAT NOW, I WOULD
HAVE TO THINK A REALLY LONG TIME TO COME UP WITH IT.

NOT BECAUSE IT'S NOT THERE, BUT I DON'T FOCUS ON IT.

DEPENDING ON WHERE I FOCUSED THE CAMERA.
AND THEN WHATEVER I FOCUSED ON WOULD DEVELOP IN MY LIFE.

A LOT LATELY.
WHAT YOU FOCUS ON, YOU FOCUS ON YOUR PROBLEMS, PRETTY SOON

AND THEY DO A LOT OF THINGS THAT THAT YOU DON'T LIKE,

OF HUMILITY.

Meet Donna Designer: Instructional Design Superhero!
Like you, Donna wants to have an impact on an individual's personal learning path, both
during and outside of formal learning campaigns.
But she knows that strategic perpetual learning like that doesn't just happen.
What's an instructional design superhero to do?
Anticipate!
Anticipate learners' moments of need and embed content in the flow of work.
Donna had recently read an InSync blog about Conrad Gottfredson's and Bob Mosher's 5 Moments
of Learner Need.
The first moment of learner need is about being new.
This happens when people are learning how to do something for the first time.
The second moment of need is about needing more.
This happens when people are expanding on what they've already learned.
The third moment of need is about application.
This happens when people need to act upon what they've learned, which includes planning
what they will do, remembering what they may have forgotten, or adapting their performance
to a unique situation.
The fourth moment of need is about problem solving.
This happens when problems arise, or things break, or don't work the way we anticipated.
The fifth moment of need is about change.
This happens when people need to learn a new way of doing something, which requires them
to change skills that are deeply engrained in their performance practices.

Great question!
If we don't anticipate the correct moments of learning need, our learners will find content
on their own.
This means the learning and development departments will have no influence over the accuracy or
applicability of the information.
We won't know what people need to learn or if consistent messages are being shared across
our learner population.
Therefore, we really need to design the entire experience.

We need to think about what learners need during and outside of the formal
blended learning campaign.

Good questions!
Let's explore some answers. Technology is certainly part of modern blended learning design, but
there's much more to it than that.
What's needed most are solid design skills.
Design skills are more critical than ever because a less than effective design is so
much more obvious in a blended design.
All the pieces need to fit and make sense together.
Remember: if the blended pieces don't fit, the learners may just quit.
Modern blended learning design is about 3 things: selecting the appropriate instructional
strategy, implementing that strategy with the best instructional technique, and deploying
that technique with the most suitable instructional technology.
An instructional strategy is your approach for addressing the instructional need.
Think of the strategy as a frame that you'll then fill with appropriate instructional techniques
and instructional technologies.
You select an instructional strategy based on both your learners and your content.
Instructional techniques, such as those listed here, are chosen to support your selected
instructional strategy.
For the most part, these techniques are interchangeable in that they all help learners achieve the
objectives.
However, each produces a different type of experience.
You must look at each learning objective individually and think through how best to help learners
achieve each objective.
Assessment and evaluation requirements will also play a role in determining the appropriate
techniques to be used in a blended solution.
Instructional technologies include authoring and delivery tools, and are used to deploy
an instructional method.
Again, technology requirement will be determined largely on assessment and evaluation requirements.
It will also be impacted by where learners are when they're applying the skill or need
the knowledge.
We want to deploy learning in the most authentic way possible.

But knowing the difference between instructional strategies, techniques, and technologies,
will help you be an instructional design superhero, like Donna Designer.
Understanding those nuances will help you create a strategic instructional design treatment
that makes your content relevant and useful during formal blended learning campaigns,
and other informal moments of learning need.

So that you know what to expect when you get here.
Welcome to the Thompson Student Center
where there is a good chance you'll find, students.
Plan on starting your day here.
We will contact you if you are needing to attend the TSI or PSA meeting.
If so, you will come a little early and meet in the Student Center.
If you are not required to attend either of those meetings,
you get to sleep a little longer and check-in time will be later here in the Student Center.
Make sure to be picture ready and bring a form of ID
because after check-in you will be getting your official Texan Card made.
Before you listen to the next location just remember,
you will be ending your day here with us in the Student Center.
Welcome to the Fine Arts building.
After check-in this is where you will begin your day.
You will meet some very important people here at Tarleton State University.
Learn about our core values.
And receive some information that will help your day go as smooth as possible
Don't worry about lunch because we got you covered.
At check-in you'll receive a card like this that will get you into our dining hall.
Our dining hall has a variety of options to choose from like:
