Hi everyone, my name is Maider

Hola a todos, mi nombre es Maider

Yo soy simpática,

yo soy baja

y yo tengo el pelo oscuro

I am friendly, I am short and I have dark hair

And I am describing myself because today we are going to learn how to describe people

En la clase de hoy vamos a aprender a describir personas

When we describe people,

we can describe their personality or we can describe their physical characteristics

¿Verdad?

Podemos describir su personalidad y podemos describir su físico

Let's start with the personality, which is very easy

because to describe the personality we use the verb TO BE plus an adjective

Verbo SER + adjetivo

Un adjetivo como por ejemplo...

simpático (friendly), serio (serious), vago (lazy), educado (polite)

So…I said:

Yo soy simpática / I am friendly

But maybe you are lazy, then we could say…

Tú eres vago

Personality, verb TO BE plus an adjective

¡Muy bien!

When we are referring to physical characteristics,

we can use the verb TO BE, the verb TO HAVE and the verb TO WEAR

Tres verbos: to be (SER), to have (TENER) y to wear (LLEVAR)

And depending on what we want to express we use one or the other

With to be, with SER, we describe general characteristics

With TENER (to have) we describe the hair, the eyes, the skin...

And with LLEVAR (to wear) we describe something special that a person is wearing

So, now let's see some vocabulary related with these verbs…

SER

SER joven o mayor / young or old

SER alto o bajo / tall or short

Bajo, like me…Como yo

SER gordo o delgado/ fat or slim

SER guapo o feo / handsome

or pretty (like me / como yo)

o feo / ugly

¡Muy bien!

TENER el pelo largo o corto / To have long hair or short hair

TENER el pelo liso o rizado / To have straight hair or curly hair

TENER el pelo rubio o moreno / To have blonde hair or brown hair, dark hair

TENER los ojos claros o oscuros / To have light eyes or dark eyes

o...

TENER los ojos verdes o marrones / To have green eyes or brown eyes

TENER la piel morena o blanca / To have dark skin or To have white skin or light skin

Si no tomas mucho el sol, probably you have like…white skin

TENER barba (beard) o bigote (moustache)

¡Muy bien!

Y por último…

LLEVAR + complemento

LLEVAR gafas o LLEVAR sombrero

LLEVAR gafas/ To wear glasses

o LLEVAR sombrero / To wear a hat

¡Muy, muy bien!

Now we are going to practice a little by describing two very famous Spanish people,

one man and one woman

You pay attention and try to identify every characteristic of my description

Empezamos con Botero, a very famous Colombian painter

And I can say that…

Botero es mayor / He is old

Botero tiene el pelo blanco / He has white hair

Botero tiene los ojos marrones / He has brown eyes

Botero tiene barba y bigote / He has a beard and mustache

Y Botero lleva gafas / He wears glasses

Muy bien, este es Botero

y ahora vamos con...

Penélope Cruz…

A very famous actress

Muy bien

And we could say about Penélope

Penélope es joven / She is young

Penélope tiene el pelo largo y liso / She has long hair and straight hair

Largo y liso

Penélope tiene los ojos oscuros / She has dark eyes

Penélope lleva sombrero / She wears a hat
