Waching daily Mar 29 2017

Well, as you know, we are enjoying a look at the wonderful center section, as it were,

the heart of Paul's great epistle to the Romans.

This, of course, is the definitive text of the New Testament on the subject of justification

and salvation and therefore it is one in which we must be familiar.

This section runs, really, from chapter 3 to chapter 5 and then in chapter 6 moves in

to the issues of sanctification that are inseparably connected to justification.

But for us, we're looking at chapters 3, 4 and 5.

Let me take you back to chapter 3 verses 21 through the first part of verse 25, to set

in place the issue at hand.

Verse 21, "Now apart from the Law, the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed

by the Law and the prophets.

Even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe,

for there is no distinction for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus whom

God displayed publicly as a propitiation or satisfaction in His blood through faith."

Now just looking back at that, apart from the Law, verse 21, through faith for all who

believe, verse 22.

Verse 24, "Being justified as a gift by His grace."

Verse 25, "God publicly displays Christ as a satisfaction in His blood through faith."

Again, this is the core statement by Paul that a man or a woman is made right with God

by grace through faith, not works.

Not it just needs to be said probably in a very general way that all religion, all religion

is designed to offer a right relationship with whatever God is espoused in that religion.

All religion is designed to get the follower on the right side of God, to remove them from

the bad side and put them on the good side.

That's what religion is for...at least that's what it offers itself to accomplish, when,

in fact, it cannot do that.

But nonetheless that is the selling point.

How does a person get on the right side of God?

How does a person escape divine judgment and enter into divine blessing?

All religions offer some formula, some means supposedly to make that happen.

And, of course, none of them can apart from the true gospel of Jesus Christ.

Here we find that the only way that a person can be made right with God is apart from works,

apart from anything that person does simply through faith, the gift of grace is given.

When a person places genuine faith in the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ,

salvation, forgiveness and righteousness comes as a gift.

Now that is the essence of this marvelous section of Scripture, a declaration that the

sinner who believes in the gospel of Jesus Christ is declared righteous.

This is a judicial declaration.

Sometimes we say it's a forensic declaration.

It is a legal declaration because the penalty was paid by Christ, the Judge is satisfied,

and the Judge therefore imputes or credits His own righteousness to the account of the

believing sinner.

This is at the very foundation of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Now Paul wants to give us an illustration of this and so in chapter 4 he selects Abraham.

The best illustration of the truth, that salvation is by grace through faith apart from works

is Abraham.

And Paul selects him to make his point very personal.

And by the way, as a footnote, there are people today who are coming up with a kind of new

view that says there's no such thing as personal conversion...there's no such thing as personal

salvation, turning on its head the conviction of the church since the New Testament era.

That there is a kind of collective people of God who are all institutionally a part

of the Kingdom through baptism.

But there's no such thing as personal salvation.

Well Paul would have a hard time with that because his model for salvation here is a

person.

His model for salvation is one man by the name of Abraham.

And he is an illustration that salvation comes not by works, not by maintaining the Law,

not by some ritual or ceremony or rite, but simply by faith.

That is his point.

Now the Jews had developed a system in which there were all kinds of personal acts both

moral and ceremonial by which they would achieve salvation.

It's amazing how people make fetishes, how they make images, how they develop objects,

formulas, rituals that become a way in which they can earn or achieve their salvation.

I remember being in the largest cathedral in North America, a Catholic cathedral in

the city of Montreal, and I watched people on their knees climbing up hundreds of stairs,

wooden stairs, to ascend to the pinnacle of this place, go into the cathedral and go to

a shrine that is there to a little priest who died a long time ago and his bones are

there with a view to touching his bones, such a pilgrimage on one's knees and the touching

of his bones gains merit for salvation.

People do that.

They develop those kinds of things.

Even the Jews had done that in their history.

When Hezekiah came along in 2 Kings 18, brought about a revival in Israel, one of the things

that he did was smash the brazen serpent that had been lifted up in the wilderness as a

point of contact for faith, people turning to God and being healed from the snake bites

if they would put their trust in God and God alone.

When the Jews had taken that simple symbol and turned it into a fetish.

They were actually believing had some kind of spiritual powers.

One of the things that Hezekiah did was smash it because the Jewish people were burning

incense to that bronze image.

I have been at the shrine of Guadalupe in Mexico and I've watched people crawl long,

long distances on their knees.

I've been to the steps in Rome, the church...the very church that Luther tried to ascend on

his knees to earn his salvation.

All these things prevent salvation, they do not accomplish it because there's a statement

in chapter 4 verse 5 that is so foundational, "But to the one who does not work but believes

in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness."

The statement that God justifies the ungodly, turns all works/righteousness systems inside

out.

God does not justify the godly, He justifies the ungodly.

Salvation comes to those who recognize their ungodliness.

That is the difference in the story of the prodigal son and his brother and the loving

father.

The o ne who received the robe, which could be an emblem of righteousness, was the one

who recognized his wretchedness.

The older brother who had no sense of his own sinfulness received no such gift from

the father because God is in the business of justifying, declaring righteous, granting

righteousness and forgiveness and salvation to the ungodly.

And Paul chooses Abraham as a model of this and breaks the chapter in to three sections,

really.

First he talks about the fact that Abraham was saved by faith, not by works.

We saw that in the opening section down through verse 8.

In the middle section, Abraham was saved by grace not by Law.

And in the final section, Abraham was saved by divine power, not human effort.

In all three sections, looking at it from a different angle, Paul is basically saying

the same thing.

We've already looked at the first one, verses 1 to 8.

Abraham was justified by faith not works.

Now let's look at the second one.

Abraham was justified by grace, not Law....by grace, not Law.

And the key to this is really in verse 16, although we won't get there tonight.

But verse 16 is the key idea.

"For this reason, it is by faith in order that it may be in accordance with grace so

that the promise will be guaranteed to all the descendants, not only to those who are

of the Law, Jews, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham who is the father

of us all."

Salvation comes not to the Jews only because they have the Law and therefore can keep the

Law, but salvation comes to anyone who follows the pattern of faith which is exhibited by

Abraham.

Here we find in this section that God is a God of grace.

Faith meets grace.

Faith in accordance with grace.

God saves with the absolutely free favor that He chooses to give undeserving sinners.

We know this.

Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord, for by grace are you saved through faith.

All salvation is a work of God's grace, not man's earning.

Abraham, of course, is the excellent illustration of this great truth.

Look at it this way.

If the greatest man in the old dispensation, if the greatest man in the Old Testament by

Jewish testimony had to deny all works, had to deny all Law-keeping as a way to be right

with God, if the greatest man in the Old Testament had to receive salvation and righteousness

by faith alone through grace alone, then any other lesser man is going to have to follow

the same path.

If there is no salvation for Abraham by law-keeping, it is also impossible for all other men.

This is precisely what Paul is demonstrating in the story of Abraham.

Now what about religious rites?

Are not they important?

Don't they play some kind of role?

If you go back to chapter 3 verse 1, Paul with his imaginary adversary poses the questions

that he then answers, and one of the questions is, "Then what advantage has the Jew?

Or what is the benefit of circumcision?

Why have a rite like circumcision?

Why have a ritual?

Why have that kind of ceremony if it doesn't have any purpose?"

The Jews believed that circumcision of all the rites and all the rituals was the most

important.

They felt that circumcision was a surgical act that secured their righteousness.

They actually believed that.

According to one of the sources that I found on the Jewish teaching on circumcision, they

say this.

"The fierce fanaticism with which the Jews insisted upon the rite of circumcision, is

vividly brought out in the book of Jubilees, this is what it says.

This law of circumcision is for all generations forever and there is no circumcision of the

time and no passing over one day out of the eight days for it is an eternal ordinance,

ordained and written on the heavenly tables.

And everyone that is born, the flesh of whose foreskin is not circumcised on the eighth

day belongs not to the children of the covenant which the Lord made with Abraham.

For he belongs to the children of destruction.

Nor is there moreover any sign on him that he is the Lord's but he is destined to be

destroyed and slain from the earth and to be rooted out of the earth for he has broken

the covenant of the Lord our God.

So absolute is circumcision as a mark of God's favor that if an Israelite has practiced idolatry,

his circumcision must first be removed before he can go down to Gehenna."

In other words, if you've been circumcised and you're an idolater, you're still going

to go to heaven.

If you have been circumcised, the only way you can go to hell was to somehow have your

circumcision altered.

They believed that salvation was imparted by this act.

In accordance with Genesis 17:9 to 14, their security was in the ceremony.

One rabbi has said that no circumcised man will see hell.

That's Rabbi Manachem(?) in his commentary on The Book of Moses.

In the Jalkute(?)

Ruebem(?) it is taught, "Circumcision saves from hell."

In the Midrash it is said, "God swore to Abraham that no one who was circumcised should be

sent to hell."

In the book Akadath(?)

Jezbac(?), it says, "Abraham sets before the gate of hell and does not allow any circumcised

Israelite to enter there."

So, it's pretty clear, isn't it?

In the Jewish mind, circumcision was salvation.

That rite and that act was all that was required to keep you from hell.

In Acts 15:1, some men came down from Judea and began teaching the brethren, "Unless you

are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved."

That's the other side of it.

If you're not circumcised, you can't be saved.

If you are circumcised, you can't be lost.

In the Jewish mind then, circumcised was the first meritorious act of obedience to the

Law which saved a man by works.

The Apostle Paul lived in that world, didn't he?

Philippians chapter 3, as he celebrates the things upon which he had set his hope of heaven,

you remember what he said.

He said this, "Although I myself might have confidence even in the flesh, if anyone else

has a mind to put confidence in the flesh, I far more, circumcised the eighth day."

And so, they believed, the Jews did, Paul being one of them before his conversion, that

circumcision was a ritual that gained salvation.

Paul warns against that belief.

If you look for a moment at Galatians chapter 5, and this has implications for us that we'll

get to in a moment.

Paul says in Galatians 5:2, "Behold, I, Paul," kind of laying it on thick there, "say to

you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you."

What was going on here?

Galatia was a Gentile region.

There were a number of churches in that region.

Paul had established the gospel there and some Judaizers came.

And the Judaizers said, "Believing the gospel of Christ is not enough to get into heaven.

Holding tightly to the traditional view of circumcision, they said, that's not enough,

you need to be circumcised or you will not make it to heaven."

Paul says, "If you receive circumcision on that basis, then you will find Christ is of

no effect to you because you have now mingled salvation by grace with salvation by works,

or circumcision."

And, if you're going to go the way of works, verse 3 he says, "I testify again to every

man who receives circumcision, now you're under obligation to keep the whole Law."

If you're going to go by Law, you have to keep the whole Law.

Borrowing from the third chapter, he said, "If you break one of the Laws, you've broken

it all."

On the other hand, he says in verse 4, "You've been severed from Christ, you who are seeking

to be justified by Law.

You have fallen from the principle of salvation by grace."

But this was a popular thing, for it called the Judaizers to proclaim...Okay, you can

believe in Christ, you can believe that Christ is the Messiah.

That's not enough.

You need circumcision.

Over in chapter 6 of Galatians in verse 12, he said, "There are those who desire to make

a good showing in the flesh, trying to compel you to be circumcised."

This was their agenda, to compel these believers to be circumcised.

Paul says, if you go that route, then your faith was not real faith.

You did not affirm a salvation by grace and grace alone, you have fallen from the grace

principle, you have severed yourself from a true relationship to Christ.

Paul gets very direct in this passage as well and he affirms that this kind of compelling

is completely outside the bounds of what God allows.

Look down in chapter 5 and verse 12.

This is one of the strongest statements Paul ever made.

"I wish that those who were troubling you would even mutilate themselves."

What in the world does that mean?

Galatia was near Phrygia and a great occupation of those people was the worship of Cybele,

C-y-b-e-l-e.

It was the practice of the priests and devout worshipers of Cybele to show their devotion

by castration.

Cybelian priests were eunuchs.

So Paul says, "If you're going to preach salvation by circumcision, you might as well preach

salvation by castration.

It's just as pagan, it's no different."

So the matter of circumcision played a very, very important role in the preaching of the

gospel to the Jews and to the Gentiles because Judaizers were coming behind Paul and pressing

this issue.

And, of course, Paul...in dealing with Abraham...deals with this issue at a very important point

because in using Abraham, he strikes a blow at their sacramentalism, you could call it,

their ritualistic salvation, at precisely the point where they tried to establish it

with Abraham.

This also strikes a blow at all kinds of ceremonial approaches to salvation.

When Abraham was circumcised, and he was, God Himself was involved in that.

It was his circumcision and anticipatory fulfillment of the Law, the Jews said, which qualified

him to be the father of many nations.

That's in their literature.

God involved in the circumcision of Abraham and it was his circumcision and anticipatory

fulfillment of the Law which was not yet written that qualified him to be the father of many

nations.

It was through his circumcision, the Jews said, that Isaac was born of a holy seed.

This was their current doctrine.

So they had endeavored to say that Abraham was circumcised and it is true he was, and

therefore sets the standard for salvation.

However, Paul is going to undo that doctrine and at the same time he's going to undo all

sacramental ceremonial ritual approaches to salvation.

He's going to sweep away all religious rites, even the rite of circumcision which was commanded

by God and served a function but not the function of salvation.

This is a very important subject, folks, to deal with because today there are many, many

people who are basing their salvation from eternal hell fire on their infant baptism,

on their confirmation, on their adult baptism, or on communion, or some other ceremony.

In Catholicism, the ceremonies are almost endless.

The worst example of this is the Roman Catholic Church.

Their ceremonies and rites are called Sacraments.

Do you know what a Sacrament is?

It is by definition, I quote, "A thing perceptible to the senses which on the ground of divine

institution possesses the power both of effecting and signifying sanctity and righteousness."

That's a Catholic definition of a Sacrament.

It is a thing, that's what they call it, a thing that possesses the power to sanctify

and make righteous.

It is a thing that grants righteousness.

Listen to some quotes from Roman Catholic theology.

"The Sacraments confer grace immediately without the mediation of faith."

Here's another one, "All the Sacraments of the New Testament confer sanctifying grace

on the receivers."

Here's another one, "Sacramental rites confer regeneration, forgiveness, the Holy Spirit

and eternal life."

Here's another one.

"For the dispensing of this grace, it is necessary that the minister accomplish the sacramental

sign in the proper manner."

The thing works if you do it in the right order.

Here's another one.

"Neither orthodox belief, nor moral worthiness is necessary for the validity of the Sacrament

on the part of the recipient."

Here's another one.

"Baptism confers the grace of justification."

Here's another one.

"Council of Trent, the section on the decree of original sin, if anyone denies that by

the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ which is conferred in infant Baptism, the guilt of

original sin is forgiven, or even asserts that the whole of that which has the true

and proper nature of sin is not taken away, let him be damned...anathema."

Damnation is pronounced on anyone who denies that grace...salvation grace, forgiveness

of sin is not conferred in infant Baptism.

Here's another one.

"We descend into the water full of sins and filth and we arise from it bearing fruit as

we have in our hearts the fear of God and in our spirit, hope in Jesus."

Here's another one.

"According to holy writ, Baptism has the power both eradicating sin and affecting inner sanctification."

And they're talking about water and not even immersion.

They mean H20, for they say, quote: "This is reference to the material which is true

and natural water."

Here's another one.

"Baptism effects the forgiveness of all punishments of sin, both the eternal and the temporal."

Here's another one.

"Baptism is necessary for all men without exception for salvation."

Well what about Confirmation?

What does that do to the baptized person?

Confirmation which usually comes along at around 12 or 13 years of age in their ritual

system of that, they say, quote: "Confirmation increases sanctifying grace."

Here's another one.

"A baptized person can achieve eternal salvation, even without Confirmation."

What about the Eucharist?

What about the Mass?

What about that Sacrament?

What does that do?

"The chief benefit of the Eucharist is the intrinsic union of the recipient with Christ."

Or, "As food for the soul, the Mass preserves and increases the supernatural life of the

soul.

It purges of venial sins and the temporal punishments due to sin and increases the life

of grace."

And so it goes.

And you can add Sacraments of Holy Orders, the Sacrament of Marriage, Sacrament of Extreme

Unction.

So when Paul deals with the issue of circumcision and the inability of any religious rite or

ceremony to justify, he sweeps all of this away...all of it.

And he reminds us that if you're putting any hope in any of those things, you have made

Christ of no effect.

You've negated grace and you've brought yourself under salvation by Law and therefore you are

bound to keep the whole Law, or perish.

Now with that in mind, we can pick up the story back in Romans 4, the account of Abraham.

Go back to verse 7, let's start there.

Quoting from David, "Blessed are those whose lawless deeds have been forgiven and whose

sins have been covered.

Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will not take into account."

David here speaking of the blessedness of salvation.

The Jew would feel that this blessedness of which David spoke was only for those who were

circumcised.

And being circumcised was evidence of their obedience to the Law.

The rabbis, in fact, of Paul's day believed that Psalm 32 spoke only of them, that is

the Jews, and of no one else.

In fact, from the Pasheda(?) it says, on the Day of Atonement, God cleanses Israel and

atones for its guilt, as it is written for on this day shall atonement be made for you

to cleanse you.

If anyone should say another nation too He cleanses, it is not so, but it is only Israel

for so spake the prophet.

It is only Israel that He forgives.

When David saw how God forgives the sins of the Israelites, and has mercy upon them, he

began to pronounce them blessed and to glorify them in saying, "Blessed is he whose transgression

is forgiven."

So they narrowed it down that that salvation blessedness of which David spoke in Psalm

32 which is quoted here, was only with reference to Israel and because only Israel was circumcised.

So the Jews put so much stock in this circumcision.

How is Paul going to deal with this?

Let's go down to verse 9 and find out.

Is this blessing that David talked about, this salvation, this forgiveness and this

imputation of righteousness, is this blessing then on the circumcised or on the uncircumcised

also?

Is it limited to Israel, as they said?

Or does it extend to others?

The Jews would say no uncircumcised person could claim an share of God's covenant.

Is that true?

Were they correct?

Well his approach is masterful.

Verse 9 again, "Is this blessing then on the circumcised or on the uncircumcised?

For we say...and he quotes Genesis 15:6...faith was credited to Abraham as righteousness."

We all agree on that.

And here's how the Jews viewed that.

That Abraham was declared righteous because he was circumcised.

In other words, he earned it by his circumcision.

So Paul asks the question in verse 10, "How then was it credited?

While he was circumcised or uncircumcised?

Answer: Not while circumcised but while uncircumcised.

Was Abraham declared righteous by God after he was circumcised?

Or before he was circumcised?

Well the answer is, before he was circumcised.

A little chronology here.

Abraham was 99 years of age when he was circumcised....99, Genesis 17:24.

On that same day, Ishmael, his illegitimate son, was circumcised.

He was 13 years of age.

When God made the covenant with Abraham, it was in Genesis 15 verse 6 that God said, "His

faith was counted to him as righteousness."

Between the moment when his faith was counted as righteousness and the time of his circumcision,

it was probably at least 14 years.

So the blessing of forgiveness and the granting of righteousness was given to Abraham, listen

to this, who was an uncircumcised Gentile when he received it.

There were yet no Jews.

He was an uncircumcised Gentile from a people of idolaters.

Circumcision had nothing to do with his righteousness...nothing to do with it at all.

In fact, how interesting, Abraham was inside the covenant, he was even given the covenant

and he was uncircumcised.

Ishmael was circumcised and was permanently outside the covenant, no rite, no religious

ceremony confers any righteousness on anyone ever.

It didn't on Abraham, it doesn't on anyone else.

Salvation comes by faith to which God responds by crediting righteousness to the account

of the one who believed.

You cannot emphasize strongly enough, folks, how vital this is to sweep away all forms

of ritual salvation.

Whether it's infant Baptism by which some people say one is saved, there's a prominent

quote/unquote evangelical in the broadest sense of the word, who recently was asked

the question, "Who are the true Christians?"

To which he answered, "All the people who have been officially baptized."

That is a Roman Catholic view, that is a Judaizing view, that is a Jewish view of ritual salvation,

cancels grace, makes Christ of none effect.

Well that does pose a question in verse 11.

"He received the sign of circumcision."

Why?

Why?

Well first of all, please notice, it is a sign...it is a sign, symbol.

It points to something else.

You know what a sign does?

Points to something else.

If you're looking for Los Angeles and you see a sign, you don't climb up on the sign

and say, "I'm there."

The sign indicates the direction you should go to get there.

The sign is a symbol, it points to something else.

It points to another reality.

Circumcision was a sign, it pointed to something else.

We could say it was a sign of God's physical people, Israel.

And there was a certain reason for that physical operation.

In Jewish history, through the centuries, according to medical reports, the lowest rate

of cervical cancer among women existed among t he Jewish people because of circumcision.

They were less likely to be infected than other women.

And it was a way in which God could preserve His people.

And He did.

It was therefore a mark of their identity.

It was a sign of God's care and protection for them.

But it was a sign of something else more important even than that , it was a spiritual sign.

It was a spiritual sign of the fact that they infected each other with sin and they needed

a cleansing on the spiritual level.

It was a sign of being Jewish and the preservation of the people, but it was a sign of being

a sinner.

And God chose the procreative organ for that sign because that's where sin was passed from

person to person, generation to generation to generation.

That's why there's so many times when the prophets say, "Circumcise your hearts.

Circumcise your hearts."

Deuteronomy 30 verse 6, Jeremiah 4 verse 4, Jeremiah 9 verses 24 to 26, Psalm 51 verse

6.

It was a sign that they needed a deeper cleansing, a spiritual cleansing.

In this sense it's like Baptism.

Does Baptism save?

No.

It's a sign.

It's a sign that points to the sinner's need to be identified with Christ in His death,

burial and resurrection by faith.

The Lord's Table is a sign.

Does the Lord's Table save you?

Does taking the bread and the cup save you?

No.

But does it point to the cross where the Savior died to provide salvation?

Yes.

It's a sign that points to Calvary.

Baptism is a sign that points to the need for death, burial, resurrection, union with

Christ by faith.

And circumcision was a sign.

It was a sign of a physical people that were being preserved by God, but it was a sign

of the fact that every person is a sinner, passing that sin on generation after generation

after generation, and we need a deep soul circumcision, a heart circumcision.

Circumcise your hearts.

When we come to Baptism, we demonstrate the Lord's resurrection.

When we come to communion, we demonstrate the Lord's death till He comes.

When we look at circumcision, it was a demonstration of the need for a deep heart surgery.

It was not just a sign, however.

Please notice, it's a seal.

Verse 11, "He received a sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which

he had while uncircumcised."

What does this mean?

Well for Abraham in his case, God had him circumcised, this is where circumcision began,

to authenticate his faith.

In Abraham's case, God was saying his faith was real, he has received salvation, he has

been forgiven, righteousness has been imputed to him and I mark him to authenticate it.

As a sign, it was a necessary picture pointing to the desperate need of every sinner to have

heart surgery.

As a seal, it was evidence that God had provided for him forgiveness and salvation.

It was a sign to all, it was a seal to Abraham that his faith was real and that he might

be the father of all who believe without being circumcision that righteousness might be credited

to them.

Righteousness can be credited to anybody who believes, right?

It was credited to Abraham at least 14 years, some say 29 years, a few other numbers offered.

But righteousness was credited to him before he was circumcised, apart from any ritual

of any kind and it came to him nonetheless from God so that in the future it could be

a sign to point to the need of circumcision of the heart.

But in his case, in particular, it was a seal, it was evidence.

God marked him as a man who had been granted righteousness.

We have a kind of circumcision in the sense that it is a seal.

Philippians 3:3, "We are the circumcision who worship in the Spirit of God."

What's our seal?

Ephesians 1, "We are sealed by the Holy Spirit."

The Holy Spirit is given to us as the guarantee of our inheritance, Ephesians 1:14.

The Passover, later on, became a ritual.

Passover didn't save anybody but it signified that God had the power to save.

It signified that God would save.

Those who obeyed Him, that He would save through the blood of a lamb.

Circumcision did not save but it signified that God would save.

He would circumcise the heart and grant righteousness as He did with Abraham.

The Lord's Table doesn't save but it declares that God will save by His work on the cross,

all who repent and believe.

Baptism does not save, but it declares that He will save the one who puts his trust in

Christ and therefore joins into Christ in His death, burial and resurrection.

It is faith then, not ritual, that saves.

It is faith, not ritual, that makes people right with God.

And it started with Abraham in the sense that he's the father.

Verse 11, at the end, "Of all who believe without being circumcised that righteousness

might be credited to them."

He's the father of all believers.

What does that mean?

Father in what sense?

Just commonness of essence, commonness of nature, commonness of disposition, commonness

of character in this sense.

He came by faith and we all come by faith.

So we share the faith of Abraham, whether circumcised or uncircumcised, whether you're

a Jew or a Gentile.

That's neither here nor there.

But faith is everything and Abraham is the model of salvation by faith apart from any

ritual.

So verse 12 sums it up.

He is the father of circumcision, to those who not only are of the circumcision, but

who also follow in the steps of the faith of our father, Abraham, which he had while

uncircumcised.

How about that?

An uncircumcised Gentile is the father of circumcised Jewish believers spiritually.

They find their connection to him because of a common faith.

There are no rituals that save, only faith...only grace.

Father, we thank You for the time to just look a little more deeply into this wonderful

truth.

We just thank You so much that You have established a way to be right with You that doesn't depend

on us, or none of us would ever make it...none of us.

Or as we heard earlier in the waters of Baptism, in the testimony of one of the young people,

our righteousness is filthy rags.

We thank You that You justify the ungodly, that You save by faith alone, not by works,

but by through Your sovereign grace.

We bless You for the gift of salvation that You save those who have gone through rituals

and those who have not.

But You do not save people who trust in those rituals for they are severed from Christ,

they have fallen from grace and bound themselves by coming that way to keep the whole Law and

thus if they've ever broken it, they're under a curse.

And so we set that aside and we come by grace through faith to receive the gift of righteousness

given to those who admit they can't earn it and in humble faith, repentant faith ask for

it as a gift.

And no sinner has ever come and been turned down.

You have told us You will not turn us away.

Whoever calls upon You will be heard.

Thank You, Lord, for this wonderful salvation.

May we be faithful in proclaiming it, living lives of gratitude for it we pray in Christ's

name.

Amen.

Urinary incontinence - causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, pathology - Duration: 7:16.

Urinary incontinence is a problem where the process of urination, also called micturition,

happens involuntarily - meaning that a person might urinate without intending to.

Urinary incontinence is particularly problematic because it affects a person's personal hygiene

as well as their social life in a way that can be very limiting.

Normally, urine is held in the bladder, which receives urine from two ureters coming down

from the kidneys and has one exit for the urine - out the urethra.

As urine flows from the kidney, through the ureters and into the bladder, the bladder

begins to expand into the abdomen.

The bladder is able to expand and contract because it's wrapped in a muscular layer,

called the detrusor muscle, and within that, lining the bladder itself is a layer of transitional

epithelium containing "umbrella cells".

These umbrella cells get their name because they physically stretch out as the bladder

fills, just like an umbrella opening up in slow-motion.

In a grown adult, the bladder can expand to hold about 750ml, slightly less in women than

men because the uterus takes up space crowding out the bladder a bit.

Okay - so when the urine is collecting in the bladder, there are basically two "doors"

that are shut, holding that urine in.

The first door is the internal sphincter muscle, which is made of smooth muscle and is under

involuntary control - meaning that it opens and closes automatically.

Typically, the internal sphincter muscle opens up when the bladder is about half full.

Now the second door is the external sphincter muscle, and it's made of skeletal muscle

and is under voluntary control - meaning that it opens and closes when a person wants it

to.

This is the reason that it's possible to stop urine mid-stream by tightening up that

muscle - also called doing kegel exercises.

Once urine has passed through the external sphincter muscle, it exits the body - in women

the exit is immediate and in men the urine flows through the penis before it exits.

When specialized nerves called stretch receptors in the bladder wall sense that the bladder

is about half full, they send impulses to the spinal cord, specifically the sacral spinal

cord at levels S2 and S3, known as the micturition center, and the brain, specifically two locations

in the pons—the pontine storage center and pontine micturition center.

The spinal cord response is part of the micturition reflex.

It causes an increase in parasympathetic stimulation and decrease in sympathetic stimulation which

makes the detrusor muscle contract and the internal sphincter relax.

It also decreases motor nerve stimulation to the external sphincter allowing it to relax

as well.

Urination would occur at this point, if not for the pons.

The pons is the region of the brain that we train to voluntarily control urination.

If we want to delay urination, the pontine storage center overrides the micturition reflex,

and when we want to urinate, the pontine micturition center allows for the micturition reflex to

occur.

There are a few types of urinary incontinence.

The first is urge incontinence, which is when someone has a sudden urge to urinate because

of an "overactive bladder", followed immediately by involuntary urination.

This is typically due to an uninhibited detrusor muscle that contracts randomly.

This usually results in frequent urination, especially at night.

To treat urge incontinence, the focus is on decreasing the detrusor muscle activity.

Relaxation techniques to relax the bladder as well as antimuscarinic medications can

decrease detrusor muscle contractions.

Next there's stress incontinence which is usually due to increased abdominal pressure

that overwhelms the sphincter muscles and allows urine to leak out.

Think exertion - sneezing, coughing, laughing – anything that puts pressure on the bladder.

This is also relevant during pregnancy when a growing baby puts tremendous pressure on

the bladder and causes stress incontinence in some women.

The classic finding is urinary leakage with pressure applied to the abdomen.

Stress incontinence treatments typically focus on strengthening the external sphincter muscle

by doing things like Kegel exercises.

Another type is overflow incontinence which is typically caused by some sort of problem

with emptying the bladder.

This could be due to a blockage in urine flow, like a hypertrophic prostate in men which

presses on the urethra or an ineffective detrusor muscle.

The result is that the bladder doesn't empty properly, and as a result the bladder fills

up and overflows with urine leaking through the sphincters.

Typically this results in a weak or intermittent urinary stream or hesitancy where it takes

a while for the urine to begin to flow because of a blockage in the path.

Overflow treatments are aimed at reestablishing a clear pathway for urine flow.

For example, that might be through catheterization or medications like alpha-blockers which can

limit prostate enlargement.

Finally, there are various conditions like diabetes, bladder cancer, Parkinson's, and

multiple sclerosis, as well as procedures such as prostatectomy or hysterectomy that

can damage the nerves involved with the micturition reflex, ultimately leading to urinary incontinence.

The symptoms and treatment for these problems depend on the exact condition.

Okay - let's recap.

Urinary incontinence occurs when urine involuntarily leaves the bladder - through the internal

and external sphincter muscles.

Urge incontinence is due to an overactive bladder, stress incontinence is due to too

much pressure for the sphincter muscles to resist, and overflow incontinence is due to

incomplete emptying of the bladder.

But we're not here today in a criminal murder trial, where

afterwards he spends the rest of his life in jail,

where he belongs.

We are here in a civil case, where the burden of proof

is not as high in a criminal matter.

In a civil matter, the burden, [inaudible] will tell you,

is preponderance of the evidence,

which simply means it's more likely than not that he did it.

And I will tell you, this case won't even be close.

We are going to overwhelm you with irrefutable evidence

He did this.

He killed her.

If you see these symptoms, understand Esophageal Cancer

• The esophagus that is carrying the food from the throat to the stomach is called

• Difficulty swallowing is considered to be a common symptom of this disease.

• There is also a symptom of pain between the chest and the pescillosis.

• Weight loss without any reason is caused by asophageal cancer.

In the stomach, irritation and sour dancers are considered as common problems.

But, if this problem is regular and other symptoms are also seen then you may also have

cancer of the esophagus.

There is an abnormal increase of cells in asophageal cancer, asophage.

Asophageous throat is called the tube that takes food and water from your throat to your

stomach.

Asofagus joins the stomach where its layer is a different type of cellular texture, in

which there are many glands or structures leaking different chemicals.

If the esophagus cancer begins with the part where the tube meets the stomach,

then this cancer is called squamous cell carcinoma.

If it starts with the part of the esophagus glands, then it is called adenocarcinoma (the

cancerous parts of glandular parts).

There is no symptom in the early stages of esophageal cancer.

As one can develop cancer, one or more of the following symptoms can be seen:

• Having difficulty or pain in swallowing or pain or difficulty in swallowing only solid

food (also called diyesphagia or odiinophagia).

• The patient often complains of 'adhesing' food in the middle of the chest, just below

the chest bone.

• Pain between chest or shoulders in the ribs

• Heartburn or soreness often occur in the heart.

• Losing weight significantly • Coughing or continuing cough for long

periods of time.

• Regular vomiting.

Other symptoms of these symptoms can also be.

If any of these are with you then you should immediately show the doctor.

If you have any complaints about pain in your chest or vomiting of blood, then get immediate

medical help.

When to contact a doctor If any symptoms of esophageal cancer emerge,

such as difficulty in swallowing, weight loss or vomiting, then show your doctor.

If you have complaints about chest pain or vomiting of blood, immediately seek medical

help.

If you have a feeling that if you swallow food, it sticks in the tube, then show your

physician.

Sophie Sez #3: "$1000 for You – A Better World for Your Children" - Duration: 6:27.

Hi, I am Sophie Kivlehan and this is my

grandfather, James Hansen. We are both

plaintiffs in the lawsuit filed by Our

Children's Trust against the United

States government for violating

constitutional rights of young people to

life, liberty and property. Our government

is facilitating pollution, carbon dioxide

from fossil fuels that threatens to

leave young people climate chaos running

out of our control. The government argues

that it would be economically harmful to

solve this problem. That is a blatant

falsehood. We will explain a simple

honest way to move our country and the

world to clean energy. People will make

money and help their children to a

bright future. Please listen for six

minutes. Economists agree that the public

is best off when energy prices are

honest, so products are made at the least

true cost and the economy is most

efficient. For example, the price of

fossil fuels needs to include the cost

to the public of resulting air pollution

and water pollution. The price of fossil

fuels can be made more honest in a

simple way that allows most people to

come out ahead: carbon fee and dividend,

which my grandfather proposed to

president-elect Obama in 2008. A carbon

fee is collected from fossil fuel

companies at the first sale, at domestic

mines and ports of entry, and the money

is distributed equally to all legal

residents. Fossil fuels burned in the

U.S. produced five billion tons of CO2

last year. Let's say the carbon fee is $55

dollars per ton. That will produce $275

billion dollars of revenue. U.S.

population is 325 million, so that's

eight hundred and fifty dollars per

person per year. However, we should

probably only allow half a

share for each child, up to a maximum of

two children per family, which means that

there are about 275 million shares. So

the result is a $1000

dividend for each adult, $3000

dollars for each family with two or more

children. Of course fossil fuel companies

will increase their prices, passing on

the fee to customers. However, the

dividend will allow most people to come

out ahead. Rich people who have large

houses and fly around the world will

lose money, but they can afford it. For

example, the price of gasoline will

increase. A carbon fee of fifty five

dollars per ton of CO2 will increase the

price of gasoline by fifty cents per

gallon. Let's say you drive 10,000 miles

per year and get 25 miles per gallon.

That's 400 gallons or two hundred

dollars in increased costs. Or, if you

drive 20,000 miles (*See footnote) per year and

get only 15 miles per gallon, your

increased cost is six hundred and sixty

seven dollars. And prices of all things

that use fossil fuels in their

production will rise. However, with the

present distribution of energy use, the

dividend will allow 70% of

the public to come out ahead. Products

that use less fossil fuels will be

favored. People don't even need to think

about it -- just pay attention to prices of

products on the shelf -- that's how the

market works. Economic studies show that

a carbon fee that gradually increases

over ten years to a hundred dollars per

ton will decrease carbon emissions by

thirty percent while increasing the

dividend almost thirty percent. The

economy will be stimulated, increasing

the GNP and creating more than three

million new jobs. This sensible approach

would modernize our energy

infrastructure, restore U.S. leadership, and

provide a bright

future for young people. It has only two

problems: Democrats and Republicans.

Bernie Sanders introduced a bill for

carbon fee and dividend but he would

grab forty percent of the money. When the

government takes the money, it's a tax. It

depresses the economy. The public loses.

On the other side, most Republicans say

climate change is a hoax. They do not

support carbon fee and dividend, even

though it would spur the economy,

increase jobs and revenue, modernize

our infrastructure, and is based on

conservative principles. But there is an

organization, Citizens Climate Lobby,

which is trying very hard to get

bipartisan support for fee and dividend.

They use the democratic process. They visit

Senators and Representatives. They are

very polite. They write letters to the

editor. There are now more than

300 chapters and 50,000 members, growing

rapidly. Please consider joining this

volunteer organization. If CCL cannot get

the two parties to agree on a carbon

fee with one hundred percent of the

money going to the public, it may be time

for a third party that is based on

principles of our nation's founders. This

party would take no money from special

interests and could address other

long-standing issues that the public is

waiting on, such as tax reform. Then,

perhaps, we could again have a government

of the people, by the people, for the

people. We can talk about that in a

future video.

Jose Baez's Opening Statement | Season 1 Ep. 1 | YOU THE JURY - Duration: 1:34.

Your opening statement?

Thank you, your honor.

May it please the court, the council.

Everywhere I go, people always ask

me, hey, did you see that show, "Making of the Murderer?"

Does that stuff really happen?

And my answer is always the same.

Yes, it happens quite often.

What doesn't happen often is you don't have that type

of coverage all the time.

And then we see the person after 30 years

of serving time for a crime they never committed

is finally released.

That's what happens when you make a murderer.

Now, Mr. Tacopina is right.

This ain't a criminal courtroom, but they're

still calling him a murderer.

That's the first thing he did.

Whenever you call somebody the worst word you can possibly do,

you need to back it up with evidence.

And now he's prefacing you with, well, we

don't have to prove that much.

This is a different courtroom.

It's circumstantial evidence.

He's getting you set up from no evidence whatsoever that

shows that Gary harmed Robin.

Now, Mr. Tacopina mentions justice.

Well I, too, mention justice.

But justice doesn't mean punishment.

The definition of justice means fairness.

We're going to ask that each and every one of you

be fair, open-minded, and watch how there is the making

of a murderer in Aruba.

Thank you.

Are Energy Drinks Really that Bad? - Duration: 4:07.

- Energy drinks!

(upbeat music)

We hear all the time that they're really bad for us,

especially for teens,

but we all drink them anyway.

So are energy drinks really that bad?

First, let's rewind back to 1997,

the year Titanic came out in theaters,

and I looked like this.

It's also when RedBull became the first energy drink

to reach the market in the US.

Since then, energy drinks like RedBull

have skyrocketed in popularity.

But things started getting intense in 2011,

when the American Academy of Pediatrics,

an organization of over 60,000 pediatricians,

recommended that kids and teens

should never drink energy drinks.

The reason why they were so worried?

Caffeine!

They were also concerned about student athletes

who were confusing energy drinks

for sports drinks, like Gatorade.

But anyway, 2011 was a long time ago.

So we emailed the AAP to see if things have changed.

Their answer was no.

They confirmed that "The 2011 report

"was recently reaffirmed by the Academy."

But caffeine is in a ton of things,

like coffee, tea, soda, and even chocolate,

and the dangers of caffeine really boil down to

how much you have.

A cup of coffee usually has between

95 to 200 milligrams of caffeine.

So, for adults, the experts recommend

no more than 400 milligrams a day,

and for kids, no more than 100 milligrams.

All right, so a little bit of caffeine,

probably not that bad.

But high doses can be lethal.

Yeah, it can kill you.

(screaming)

So how much caffeine is actually in energy drinks

to get all these doctors so worked up?

Although the FDA doesn't require companies to list

the amount of caffeine in beverages,

many brands do it voluntarily.

They're right there on the label.

So, in this little bottle, you've got 200 milligrams,

you've got 160 milligrams in this can of Monster,

and 114 milligrams in this RedBull.

But caffeine often isn't the only ingredient

in energy drinks.

There can be lots of other additives,

like guarana and taurine.

Shoot, is it taurine?

Guarana is a plant from the Amazon,

and its seeds contain about double

the amount of caffeine found in coffee beans.

Taurine, on the other hand, is an amino acid,

which, if you took notes in your biology class,

you would know is the building block of proteins.

It's in a lot of other things.

It's even in our own nervous system.

And it's often marketed as a performance enhancer.

And then, of course, some of these drinks

have a lot, a lot of sugar,

and we all know how much sugar can lead to

diabetes and obesity.

So what does the research say about all this?

Well, in 2011, a paper published in the journal Pediatrics

reviewed the effects of energy drinks

on children, adolescents, and young adults.

The paper looked at 121 reports,

2/3 of which were published in academic journals.

And in all of this research,

there are still two big unknowns.

One, does your age affect how your body

responds to caffeine?

And two, how do all these additives and caffeine

interact with each other?

Clearly, there's still a lot they're figuring out,

but in the meantime, the experts warn

that energy drinks could be especially risky

for kids with heart problems, ADHD, or diabetes.

So, given all these concerns, it may come as no surprise

that some places have pushed for

completely banning the sales of energy drinks

to anyone under the age of 18.

As far as we can tell, that hasn't passed locally

here in the US, but in 2014, Lithuania,

well, known for storks and hot air balloons,

became the first country to actually ban

the sale of energy drinks to anyone under the age of 18.

But not everyone is a fan of these ideas.

Some think these restrictions are unfair.

If you aren't worried about selling coffee or tea to kids,

why single out energy drinks?

So, the American Beverage Association,

the trade group representing many of these energy drinks,

came up with another idea:

voluntary guidelines for labeling energy drinks.

So now that you know all this,

how do you feel about energy drinks?

Do you think there should be more regulation?

Let us know in the comments below.

Thanks for watching!

what is the best mulch to use around

plant hey trees what do you think about

that well you know I'm real partial to

pine needles they're going to apply you

get good air movement around them you

know it kind of depends on what you're

doing cypress mulch last longer than

hardwood hardwood is slightly acidic

pine bark isn't actually slightly

alkaline because it's got calcium in it

so it's kind of up to you how much you

want to spend but to me if I think that

pine needles are probably the most

attractive and the less damaging to

blimp you know because we think about

mulch of what we're doing is trying to

moderate the soil temperature and keep

weeds down but mulch doesn't go away you

know people will go out and they'll say

oh I need to remote well it hasn't gone

it's just decomposed into a very fine

powder and then it looks like black

stuff and they go oh I've got topsoil

but it's not it's multi dust and then

you add more mulch and it gets deeper

and deeper and you start slowing your

air movement through the soil which is

critical your zayas will begin to yellow

the leaves will dwarf down and it's

because we've taken a mountain plant and

planted it in flat ground headed clay

and covered it with four inches of mulch

yeah so it just cannot breathe so that's

Easter at Immanuel - Duration: 1:55.

One of the most exciting components of the Christian life is baptism testimonies,

That's where we gather together as a church to hear the story of how the Lord Jesus Christ

Saved someone.

Brought them out of their own life of sin darkness, and into the fellowship

of the truth, and into the body of the church.

I just finished watching some of the baptism testimonies here at Immanuel Bible Church

and

I find myself encouraged by them.

Hearing that the Lord can save anyone regardless of their

background.

Anyone can have a relationship with Him through faith in Jesus Christ.

You know the church has always celebrated baptisms on Easter Sunday, or Resurrection

Sunday.

That's the day through much of church history where believers would

gather together and celebrate the new life that a person has through faith in

Jesus Christ.

Easter is the day that the Lord Jesus himself rose from the grave.

It's fitting that we also gather together to see not just the new life of Christ

worshipped, but also the new life of Christ in individual's hearts.

That we see, that though Jesus is risen from the grave and reins in Heaven at this moment

He's also on the Earth and through the presence of His Holy Spirit in those who've

come to saving faith in Him.

This Easter Sunday (Resurrection Sunday).

Immanuel Bible Church will gather right here in this Worship Center to worship our risen

Lord.

To hear stories of baptism.

To hear stories of people who have come to faith

in Christ.

And to sing songs praising our Lord for rising from the dead.

I hope to see you this Resurrection Sunday.

Invite a friend.

Perhaps hearing a story

of a changed life would encourage them to also worship the Lord through having

their own lives changed.

Q&A - Why do carpenter bees just sit on flowers? - Duration: 1:25.

Sometimes I notice that carpenter bees land on flowers and just stay there.

Why?

Could this be because they are eating treated wood and this is from Alex up in Knoxville.

How 'bout that one?

It's just there, hanging out.

- If they're landing on the flowers, they're probably feeding on pollen or nectar.

- [Chris] I would think so.

- Now, they will bore through tree and wood.

- [Chris] Yes, they will.

- In a heartbeat.

- [Chris] Yes they will.

- If that's the issue, probably the best product to spray would be something with permethrin

in it.

It is labeled for wood boring bees and if it's not exposed to sunlight or water, probably

will give you three or four months control, so if you spray it around the opening of your

tree or where you think you're likely to get them, wasp's nests, things like that, then

that usually will prevent the problem beforehand, but normally, the bee is just feeding on nectar

and a lot of times, they'll sit and just warm their body up too by sitting out in the sunlight.

- Okay, I didn't think about that, but yeah, it can cause a lot of damage.

- It can, they can do substantial damage to it.

Shalom. This week we begin the third book of the Torah, Sefer VaYikra, 'and He Called,'

We

always face a challenge when we begin the book of Vayikra again. For many of us it's

difficult

to relate to, to identify with, to appreciate. Granted there must be beautiful symbolism

and

allegorical meaning, but can the Torah seriously expect us to bring animal sacrifices in our

day

and age? Many, who confess sincere belief in the eternity and Divinity of Torah, find

themselves

facing a difficult conundrum. If indeed we believe the Torah is Divine, and immutable,

and will

not be substituted or changed, then indeed how do we deal with the whole business of

the

Temple offerings. Korbonot. Mistranslated terribly as sacrifices. But if it's just

a history lesson,

fine. Well as you know the Torah is not a history book. So if we have a hard time accepting

these

instructions for the Holy Temple that we will now be learning so much about, of Torah, do

we

have a problem? I call this the Vayikra challenge. And you know, children traditionally begin

their Torah study career with this book. Not at Genesis but at Leviticus. As our sages

state, let

the pure come and occupy themselves with the pure. If only we could start over again as

innocent

as little children. Since they are not jaded or prejudiced by the world yet, they are unfettered

by

disbelief. They can still take Hashem at His word, wide eyed, wondrous, ready to receive,

not yet

sophisticated enough to know that they can dictate reality on their terms.

The first two verses of our parasha begin,

"And He called to Moses, and the Lord spoke to him from the Tent of Meeting, saying,

Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: When a man from [among] you brings an

offering to Hashem; from animals, from cattle or from the flock you shall bring your offering."

Who called to Moses? It doesn't say. The language is awkward, the way the phrases are

broken

up….He called to Moses, that's Hashem alright, but what did He say? The verse doesn't

tell us

what G-d communicated to Moshe in this initial calling. Then the verse goes on to say, what

Hashem did say to Moshe from the Tent of Meeting…Speak to the children of Israel, etc.

So from the get-go here, Hashem is sort of hidden. The speaker at first is not identified

and

neither was the speaking. Rashi explains on the words, "And He called to Moses: The

[Divine]

voice emanated and reached Moses' ears, while all [the rest] of Israel did not hear

it. And Rashi

explains that what is the purpose of these subsections? To give Moses a pause, to contemplate

between one passage and the next, and between one subject and another. [And if this pause

for

contemplation was given to the great Moses when being taught by God, then] how much more

[necessary is it] for an ordinary man learning [Torah] from another ordinary man [to be allowed

pauses between sections and subjects, to carefully contemplate and understand the material being

learned]. So I already know two things: That no one else could hear this, and there is

a lot to

contemplate. What does this mean this, this calling that only Moshe could hear, and he

in turn

gave over G-d's words to everyone. What is it about these concepts that need to be

communicated in this manner?

This book is about our world. For many people what

it communicates is not easy to hear,

because hearing it, really hearing it, requires taking responsibility. This book is about

the

difference between human beings and animals. If all

the Torah's mitvot can be correctly defined

as advice, then this book conveys cautionary advice to aid a man in becoming a man and

not

becoming a lust driven, sadistic killer. This book is about the tikkun of human beings being

created in G-d's image; it's about eternity of life, and it's about remaining ever sensitive

to the

sanctity of life. As we learn from Perek shirah, the esoteric prayer recited daily by the very

pious

which recounts the songs of praise to G-d uttered by every aspect of creation….through

man all

forces come together and can be uplifted….or destroyed, as we see all around us. .

Everything's been leading up to this point. Now that Israel is out of Egypt, and 'settled,'

its time

to fulfill what we were taken out for, and that is…to serve Hashem. This is our preoccupation,

this is the plan,. this is our life's work, what we will be doing now….constantly serving

Hashem.

But what is that, exactly? How do we serve Hashem? By ritual and symbolism? By 'sacrificing'

animals? No. …don't you see the total misunderstanding…it's not about " serving"

Him making

Him happy, mollifying Him, placating Him…the service, the avoda, of Hashem, regarding which

the sages teach that the world rests on three pillars, Torah, Avoda, and acts of loving

kindness,

this serving is about the constant intense introspective wrenching work of becoming and

staying

a human being…and this must be such a full time job, such an important thing, so hard,

so

difficult, because it is so emphasized in the Torah, its why G-d chose to have an abode

below, a

place to rest His presence, its why we are supposed to build this in the first place.

So rather than

start from a place that we are so smart and advanced and sophisticated, we open up hearts,

maybe I am primitive, outdated, because my head is primitive and outdated, because the

prism

through which I view the world is me alone, my needs, drives, desires, and most importantly,

what makes me comfortable. Comes along Sefer Vayikra, beginning with a still small call, that

takes us completely out of our comfort zone. Torah is constantly pushing us not to plunge

into

the abyss, not to be swallowed up, but to stay human and sensitive. Given the preeminence

of

this issue we can surmise that the danger of a man becoming an animal must be a very

serious

problem indeed….it is not relevant than why is the world more violent than ever before,

why is

there less reverence for life than ever before, why is there less of a differentiation between

man

and beast than before?

This book is not about the slaughter of animals. The offerings Hashem enumerates here

demonstrate the greatest reverence for life. Vayikra is the primary sourcebook of Hashem's

kindness, compassion and mercy, as demonstrated by the consistent and exclusive use of …His

name….Hashem's name, YHVH, the name of mercy, is the only one that appears in this

book.

Every word expressed by G-d concerning the korbonot, the offerings, the closeness makers,

is an

outpouring of kindness.

So G-d's will was for Israel to construct the tabernacle for His presence, so that His

purpose in

creation and in the creation of man would be fulfilled. Every detail of this home for

G-d conveys

awesome secrets, every detail and its own specific tikkun…this was to be the place

for the

indwelling of His Shechina…:And they shall make for Me a sanctuary and I will dwell amongh

them..' From here, G-d's holiness would flow out to all the world, in a way that would

enable all

those who yearn and desire to attach to that holiness, to do so…and when the work was

all

finished, as we are told at the conclusion of parashat Pekudei, 'and Moshe finished

all the work,

and the glory of Hashem filled the tabernacle'

And it is at the point when Hashem's presence filled this special place…that our third

book of

the Torah, sefer Vayikra, begins…how does it begin….He gives us the first word….the

first

dibor…statement….and the statement is, 'When a man will offer from among you, an

offering to

H…. It doesn't say, a man from among you, when he offers, but rather, when a man offers

from

among you, because Hashem wants us to make the lower arousal, the first move…that we

should

be inspired, motivated to want to come close to Him….this is the meaning of the word

mikem,

that the desire should be ours….and this dibor is in the language of and He called

to

Moseh….with an aleph at the end of the word….(moshe is at the receiving end)…at matan torah,

the first dibor also was with an aleph….but at the beg of the letter…this

one at the end…the

alpeh represents the alufu, the master of the world, the source of all holiness….the

aleph at

matain torah represents the Creator who brings forth everything….at the Sinai Revelation

the

aleph was at the beginning of the word, at the beginning of the word, because the arousal

was

from above, up to down….but the first dibor, emanating from the holiness of the tabernacle…it's

the word 'and he called', with the aleph at the end ...to show the connection, that

this holiness

comes from the previous….from the holiness of the aleph of the alufu shel olam….and

that's,

and he called to moshe. This is the continuation of Sinai.

Open up your heart. No commandment was given at the beginning of this parasha, of the

korbonot, only 'when a person offers'…like, mashma, when you want do, ok, according to

all

these details….in other words, it always has to start with a man's recognition of

himself and his

desire to want to elevate himself and get closer…the lower arousal….

This parasha gives over to Moshe, instructions for him to give over to all of Israel, the

details of

how to bring offerings in the Tabernacle, later to become the Holy Temple. There are

many

different offerings that are described here: Burnt offerings of cattle, of smaller animals,

of birds,

meal offering, baked offering, pan offering, deep fried, first grain, peace offering of

cattle, of

sheep, of goats, sin offerings, guilt offerings, misappropriation offerings…there is a lot

to learn

here….

The whole concept of the korbonot is based on the understanding that Hashem Himself is

the

merciful One, He is the definition of mercy…He is merciful on all creation, and its all about

and

for man. In the Temple, G-d renews man's spirit and dignity and inspiration in his

heart, despite

all that he has been through, he throws him a rope, so he does not fall into despair,

sink into

hopelessness, in His great mercy Hashem arouses him from his slumber, and inspires him with

a

new desire to draw close, in a relationship based on the G-dly image of mercy, of being

merciful

to man (ever notice how sometimes people that are very merciful to animals are very cruel

to

man), through the briniging of an offering by the holy and pure kohanim, they are the

messengers of the comapssionatie one to have mercy on his creations, to draw them close

to

him….Adam ki yakriv….So how can we be like the beautiful little children who begin

their first

experience of Torah study with the book of Vayikra, the little children who like Moshe,

hear the

call coming from the Tent of Meeting. Maybe for the rest of us, maybe what we need is

a sort of

….Its sort of like the concept of the suspension of disbelief . The term suspension of disbelief or

willing suspension of disbelief has been defined as a willingness to suspend one's

critical

faculties and believe the unbelievable. The term was coined in 1817 by the poet and aesthetic

philosopher Samuel Taylor Coleridge, who suggested that if a writer could infuse a

"human

interest and a semblance of truth" into a fantastic tale, the reader would suspend

judgement

concerning the implausibility of the narrative. Well Hashem's Torah is no fantastic tale.

But

maybe if we could only suspend our disbelief long enough to remember that no matter how

hard

it is for us to swallow, Hashem beliefs in us, and never suspends that belief, and it

was on

account of his belief in man that he created the world and sought to have an abode here.

Maybe if

we can suspend our disbelief we can understand that understanding the concepts of the Book

of

Leviticus are the key to understanding the nature of the G-dly soul that the Creator

of all life

entrusted to man, hoping – suspending His disbelief – hoping that we would shine it

up, and be a

reflection of His Divine light in this world, by rising above our own base, animal instincts,

and

by constantly refining the gift of our humanity, by accepting our responsibility to become

Adam,

by drawing close to the Aleph, the Alufu shel olam, the Master of the World. Vayikra, the

whole

sefer starts with that call. Who can hear the call? Adam, become

a man. A human being.

First Freaky 'It' Trailer Will Make You Even More Terrified of Clowns (Video) - Duration: 1:00.

Thanks to Stephen King and the very well known Tim Curry, clowns became the thing of nightmares

in the 1990 TV adaptation of "It."

Judging by the trailer for Warner Bros. big-screen adaptation, the film won't do anything to

help the circus performers' reputation.

"When children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, a group of young kids is

faced with their biggest fears when they square off against an evil clown named Pennywise,

whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries.\par

The film stars Jaeden Lieberher as Bill Denb rough, whose younger brother Georgie is one

of the clown's victims.

7 THINGS YOUR DOG HATES (Eng subs) 🐶 Dogs Universe - Duration: 5:02.

Hey, what's up!

today I'll tell you 7 things

that experts say your dog hates

did you know we do things thinking our dogs like?

but the truth is they dislike them

Too many hugs

It's ok to love your dog, to hug and to carry him

but frequently he doesn't like it

the reason is that when an animal put the paws over him

he feel it like is been attacked or dominated

he doesn't like it

but of course there are a lot of dogs used to hugs

and there is no problem

but an unknown dog can have a bad reaction

Speaking without gesturing

Dogs understand what we say but not for the words

they don't understand the language itself

they understand what we say but is because we make gestures

for the voice tone and how we talk them

Bathe very often

a lot of dogs love the water and to swim

but there is no necessary to bathe every day or so frequently

when they are dirty or start smelling bad

is when we need to bathe them

it's also important not to use shampoo for human

it's different and they can have inconvenience

of course this depend on the dog and the product

it's recommended to use soap for dog and warm water

and the place depends on the dog

can be in a bathtub or in the garden

it depends on the individual

To dress him unnecessarily

sometimes it's necessary to dress him

because there is cold and the dog can't handle it

like small dogs, as is Chihuahua

they are easy to get cold

but you'll never dress a Siberian Husky or a St. Bernard

they don't need clothes even in the snow

it's awkward for them, they feel their personal space invaded

they can even lost the balance

there are some videos surely you already saw

the dogs are wearing shoes and walk weird

it can be kind of funny

but the truth is they are very awkward

There is much controversy about whether the shoes are good or bad

it is advisable not to use unless the veterinarian recommend it

To hurry him up and let strangers to touch him

the owner of the dog should be the leader

and the dog have to walk at the person rhythm

but sometimes we have little time and we hurry him up

that's stressful for them

sometimes they try to sniff something

such a tree or a post

and you have to let him because he needs to satisfy the curiosity

when a stranger pet him, can be awkward for him

(depends on the dog)

but regularly the dogs don't like it

unless the dog is very sociable

Loud noises

a loud music, fireworks or the noise of a big street

is stressful for dogs

they don't like it and is not recommended to expose them to loud noises

Lack of routine

a dog is not a baby, an ornament nor a toy

is a living being and needs mental and physical exercise

he needs to walk and to move

so it's very serious:

if you will buy or adopt a dog is because

you will spend the needed time with him

a dog is alive and you have to consider him part of your family

Please share the video and if you like it give us a thumb up

if you are not a sub please subscribe

remember, this channel is for dogs

and all the benefits will be used for help them

That's all for today, until next time!

Exploring Sandy Neck - Duration: 3:36.

Sandy Neck is a special place where about 85% of it is still wilderness.

It's so close to civilization, it's hard to believe.

Welcome aboard the "Horseshoe Crab" and welcome to Barnstable harbor and Sandy Neck.

If we talk about Cape Cod and the islands, most people are aware that the Cape and the

Islands were formed by a glacier.

It's important to realize that Sandy Neck, itself, was not formed by a glacier.

What happened is that northeast wind blew against the cliffs, glacial sand up in Plymouth

, and moved the sand slowly down the coast into this area.

And that's what basically formed Sandy Neck.

As we get closer and closer to what is considered the Great Marsh, is called the Great Marsh,

even though most people, the Colonists, the settlers, when the Pilgrims arrived in 1620,

unfortunately for about 100 years, they could think of nothing else but filling in the marshes.

Now, in the last 20-25 years, we realize that 70% of the seafood we eat, we go to the fish

market for, actually spends most of it's life or all of its life in the marsh, itself.

They begin to appreciate how important the marsh really is.

What is in front of the cottage is an osprey nest pole.

The osprey have their 2 young on it.

They come back every year.

They're migratory.

And with those 2 young, they're very protective.

The male is usually in charge of security and the female in charge of the nest.

This is called Cottage Colony.

Some people call it the Village at Sandy Neck Point.

All of these cottages you see are privately owned.

They were gunning shacks or fishing shacks.

Some were floated over by barge.

As you can see as we approach lighthouse, you can see metal straps holding the bricks

all around it.

They were put on in 1880.

The keeper's house was built in 1880 but the first lighthouse was built in 1826.

This is the end of Sandy Neck and you can see all the boaters,

all the people on the beaches.

This is underwater at high tide.

Obviously, it gets deeper, it looks like there standing on the bottom here,

but it drops pretty quickly.

Are they walking or are they floating?

Aah, they're floating.

Okay, that would make more sense to me.

It's just hard to imagine what it was like in the 1800's around here

with all the boating activity.

I mean we're talking Clipper Ships and Schooners back and forth

making this one of the busiest harbors around.

Yamaha YZF R6 Engine Teardown | Part 1 in Series | Partzilla.com - Duration: 19:59.

Hello, John Talley here with partzilla.com, and look what we have here: it's a 2008 Yamaha

R6 motor.

Where's the rest of the machine?

Well, it really doesn't exist because we actually bought this used and I'm going to go through

the process of completely pulling it apart.

Now what's that going to involve?

Well, pulling the head off, checking the cylinders, and actually splitting the crankcase, and

then putting it all back together replacing any parts that may be worn out or damaged.

Because honestly, we know nothing about this engine.

So that's why we're going to pull it down.

So if you're ready, I'll go grab my toolbox and we'll get started.

Alright guys, before we get started a few things we need to go over.

This is actually going to be a skill level three, so you need to bring your A-game.

This is going to be pretty intense.

It's not just tearing apart the motor.

You need to do it in an organized fashion.

You need to label everything, need to put it in ziplock bags, because when it comes

time to put it back together, that's when it's really going to pay off.

So, what tools are you going to need to pull this off?

Not really that intense, Yamaha keeps it down to a minimum.

As far as sockets you just need to make sure you've got a basic range from eight up to

about 19.

Except for this guy: it's a 36mm, so you're going to have to go pick up one of those.

Other than that, you need to have a few Allens.

A 5, a 6, and an 8.

Other than that just an oil filter wrench and most importantly you want to make sure

you have a T30, because there's a couple of bolts on the output shaft of the transmission.

They're not Allens, they're going to be this little star configuration-- it's called a

Torx, so you want to make sure you have one of those.

Other than that just a decent ratchet, a few different extensions.

A pick tool, a magnet comes in handy, a 10mm wrench, and you're also going to need a mark-sol.

Other than that a couple of pairs of pliers, what I call a soft-blow hammer, and then just

a flat-blade screwdriver.

And like I said, plenty of zip-loc bags to keep all of this stuff organized.

One other tool that I do want to mention is all the diagrams that we have available at

partzilla.com.

They basically give you a layout of what you're trying to accomplish.

Shows how it goes together, and that'll make it a lot easier to take it apart and then

put it back together later.

So, check those out as we go along.

It'll make a lot more sense to you.

So if you're ready, let's get started.

Alright guys, I don't know if this thing was shipped with oil in it or not.

It's not supposed to be but let's go ahead and pop the drain plug and see if there's

anything left in there.

Plus, if it does have any oil in there, I want to look at the condition of it when it

comes out.

That ought to give me an indication as to whether or not there is a problem.

Alright, well it looks like the shipping company did what they were supposed to do, so there's

no oil in here, which is a good thing.

So, we can go ahead and proceed forward.

Alright, step one, let's go ahead and get this valve cover off, then we're going to

pull this cover right here and that actually has the timing marks where we can bring the

motor around to top dead center.

And as I've said probably a hundred times, I love using these little impact drivers to

pull things apart, but do not use them to put things back together.

you will be sorry if you do.

It does make quick work of sections like this.

The other thing we're going to need to go ahead and do is, there are going to be a whole

lot of nuts and bolts involved on this teardown.

So, it all seems real simple right now, but I guarantee you when you've got everything

spread all over God's creation, you're not going to remember where it all goes.

So, we need to go ahead and get some of our ziploc bags and start tagging each section

that we pull apart-- starting with the valve cover.

Just kinda make a mental note where each one of these little brackets are.

If not you'll have to come back and re-watch the video to see where they went.

It's actually called the pickup rotor cover.

There she comes.

And there's your p[pickup right there.

Alright we're getting ready to bring her around to top dead center, but the spark plugs are

still in it, so let's go ahead and get those pulled that way it'll be much easier to turn

it over.

Looks like this one was burning pretty clean.

all those look good, nice and even.

Alright, we're going to bring it around to top dead center and there's two things that

we're going to look for.

One, this mark right here is going to line up with where the crankcase meets together.

You can't really see it but I can, that little line is right there.

The other thing that's going to signify it being at top dead center on the compression

stroke is that the camshaft lobes are going to be facing up.

So, let's bring that around turning it clockwise.

Alright with that set to top dead center, let's go ahead and start getting those cams

out.

And that begins by getting the tensioner off.

Now we can go ahead and take off the caps.

If you'll notice, they've got each one of them already labeled for you either on the

intake or the exhaust side.

What we want to do is kinda bring it off in a sequence, kinda keeping them level because

we don't want to create too much of a bind and potentially break one of the camshafts

because these things are extremely hard but that also makes them very brittle.

So we need to be careful of that.

So this section out toward the end where it's just a sink point, we can go ahead and take

those all the way off because there's no pressure on either side of that particular bearing

surface.

And they also if you look carefully have little arrows that face toward the gear side so it

makes it more difficult to actually end up doing it backwards or something like that.

So kudos for Yamaha for those points.

Alright, initial impressions, this motor looks to be in pretty good shape so far, and all

the cam surfaces: the lobes, and then the bearing surfaces if you want to call them

that all look really clean.

So when they said this was about an 8,000 mile engine, I believe it, but we're still

going to go all the way through it.

Alright, when you're removing the head bolts, of course there's a certain sequence that

you need to go through and we want to do this a half-a-turn at a time until they get loose,

and I've got them marked just on the top of the head.

It's the same for the tightening.

What we're going to do is half-a-turn on each one.

Before we lift the head off I'm going to go ahead and lake out the chain guides.

Not too bad.

That actually looks really, really good.

On two and three you can still see a little of the crosshatch and the hone in the bore.

Alright, well let's go take a look at the head.

What I'd looked at earlier were the conditions of the valves-- or at least the stems.

I mean we're going to break the head all the way down, it's like I said we're going to

take it to a place called Star Racing, where they're going to do a multi-angle valve job

as well as massage the ports just a little bit.

Alright, we are actually going to have a bunch of head work done on this like I said, but

I still would like to have things go back in the same position they were in when they

were taken out.

So these tappets or buckets, they will be reused so I want to go ahead and number those

so I can at least get them back in the same position.

Are my shims going to change?

Well, yeah.

The chances are all of them are going to have to be redone.

But I still want the bucket carriers or the shim carriers to end up in the same bore that

they came out of so I'm going to go ahead and number those.

And since they are pretty much just loose in there now, let's go ahead and take them

out.

See the actual shim itself is still in the bucket.

Alright, let's go ahead and get the clutch cover off and take the clutch apart itself.

Need to get that dipstick out of the way because it catches on that bottom edge.

Alright, there we go.

AS you're removing these, you kind of want to make it cris-crossed pattern: loosen them

up just a little at a time.

Alright, that's got most of the pressure off.

So we'll go ahead and take them all out.

Alright guys when you're pulling these apart, at the very bottom there's an oval-shaped

washer.

So you want to make sure you don't lose any of those because I actually dropped one while

I was doing this.

While we're on this side let's go ahead and pull the clutch pack out.

Alright, let's get the main bolt off of that clutch basket.

Got our holder in place.

Alright, we've got the clutch pack out of it, but to actually get the basket out we

need to get the chain off, which is actually down at the oil pump.

So, the water pump needs to come off, then I need to put I guess you'd call it the oil

pan-- I need to get it removed, then we can remove the chain and this entire section can

come off.

Once you get those two main bolts on the front of the pump housing, then you've got a couple

of hose clamps left around the front of the engine and the whole assembly will come right

off.

As you're doing this, they hid one right down in there.

So, don't forget that one.

The oil pan usually tells the tale.

You can drain the oil but that doesn't get you to everything.

The oil pan, if it's got a bunch of sludge in it, it'll tell you that it hasn't been

maintained very well at all.

This one, it really doesn't get much better than this.

I mean that is pretty much perfect.

There's no sludge anywhere, so this engine was in really good shape.

Making me feel good the further we go.

With our oil pan off, we can go ahead and get to the oil pump itself.

Get this oil tube out.

Get these-- it looks like three 10mm bolts that hold the oil pump in as well as this

little pickup tube.

Now with the dowels out, we can shift it over, tilt it over a little bit, and then kick the

chain off.

And then out comes your pump.

Alright, before you can get the clutch basket to release, you have to rotate the crank to

where it clears that counterbalance and the connector rod.

Once you've done that, then she can lift out. and there's our oil pump chain.

Go ahead and lift our these roller bearings, and these different washers.

Make sure you keep them all together because it's going to be very important that they

go back in the right order.

You got that small one, flat, this, and then the roller bearing.

Alright, let's go ahead and get the starter off.

That starter has just a couple of 8mms on it.

Alright, now lets' bring it up and get the stator off.

Let's get this cracked cover off, which we're not going to reuse.

Several 5mms all the way around.

Careful, don't let the magnets pinch your fingers here.

There she is.

Let's go ahead and get this intermediate gear out.

Alright we're removing what they call the oil cooler.

A little inside tip here: if you're rebuilding a clutch that had completely failed-- in other

words all the fiber had come off the disk or been burned off the plates themselves,

you want to open this up and flush it out.

Because basically there's a bunch of little passages in here and if they get gummed up,

it's going to starve the engine for oil.

I've seen it happen.

A guy replaced his clutch, put it back together, didn't clean this out, and it fried the engine

so, just a little inside knowledge there.

Alright, let's go ahead and get the pickup coil here.

But we'll also get the timing chain out of the way.

Rotate it up, put a support through here, disconnect this lower bracket for the engine

and then we're going to pull out all these bolts a quarter turn at a time and we're going

to split the cases.

As you will see on this diagram, there are a bunch of bolts we have to take out a quarter-turn

at a time.

So, if you would reference this diagram and follow me around as we get these things loosened

up.

Number one is right there, so let's go.

Alright, they're all basically loose now, so it's time to go ahead and zip them out.

There she is.

Alright, initial inspection all the gears look great.

I don't see any teeth missing, anything like that or irregular wear.

All of it looks really good.

the bearing surfaces, at least on the mains looks good.

So let's get one of those pistons out and take a look at it.

Alright a couple of 10mms to get this end cap off.

About a quarter-turn each.

Alright, a little bit of wear, nothing substantial.

all the surfaces look good, and the pistons are actually in fantastic shape.

But, I want to let ya'll in on a little secret: these are easily reusable.

I'm not going to reuse them.

It seems the guys over at Wiseco heard about our little project, and they decided they

wanted to get involved.

So they are sending us one of their 636 kits.

So what are we going to do?

We're going to tear this down all the way, actually send off the block, have it bored,

then we have to have it re-plated and then we're going to put it all back together.

When you're pulling these out, you might want to take note that I had numbers on this side

of the connecting rod.

That'll give you a reference point back towards the transmission as to which way they go.

Alright guys, as I'm taking this apart, I'm actually going to number each one of the bearings.

I plan on using or reusing these bearings.

The cylinders are actually in fantastic shape.

You can still see the crosshatch, but that's not going to matter now, is it?

Alright, let's get that shift shaft out of there.

It starts by pulling off this circlip.

Rotate it up so ya'll can see what I'm doing a little bit.

That's about as far as I can go.

Alright, just want to release this spring, and all of that comes out together.

There's also a washer on this side, so make sure you keep up with it.

Alright, it looks like we've got a couple of plates that are holding our shift drum

cassette and then our main gears and that'll just about be it.

Alright careful, there's a spring here on the backside of this plate.

So go ahead and unbolt that main shaft.

This one is a T30.

Alright, to remove this what they call main axle, you need to get a couple of 6mm bolts.

and they actually screw in here and here and act as a puller.

Just keep going back and forth evenly.

Now the bolts you're doing this with, make sure they're not used anywhere on the engine

itself because it's kind of destroying the threads at the very end.

There we go.

So these were just a couple I had laying around.

Well alright guys, there you have it.

One 2008 Yamaha R6 torn all the way down to the crankshaft.

So, what's next?

Well, like I said we're going to send off the head to Star Racing and get it modified.

We're going to send off the block, get it bored and get it ready for those Wiseco pistons

that are going to punch it up to a 636.

It's going to be nice.

Well listen, if you need to reference any of the diagrams why don't you find us online

and take a look at those, kind of get an idea-- a visual idea of how all this stuff comes

apart and more importantly how it's all going to go back together.

Speaking of that, if you want to watch me put this back together, why don't you follow

us over to the next video and until then, we just want to say thanks for watching.
