Awkward Boners: Science Explains! - Duration: 4:09.

Boners, There's only really one time & place that they're appropriate.

But men sometimes get a boner when they really don't want one!

we've all-- well, you've all been there. Apparently.

Called out in front of the class, had to present in a meeting, or found yourself in some other

awkward A F situation where even though you were not aroused… you all of a sudden became

a hands-in-pockets kinda guy who really needed to carry that Japanese Design textbook with

him at all times.

Clearly erections don't always equal lust. I think it's time for some harrrd truths

about erections.

[Sciq Intro]

I'll admit, I've woken up next to a hard penis or two in my time. But sometimes, they

were asleep–

So what's up with it going up when it's not supposed to.

Well reflexogenic or psychogenic erection – which are boner caused by physical or

mental stimulation, have some interesting science behind them. Your penis is ruled by

your autonomic nervous system, just like your heart rate and blood pressure, which you also

have very little control over. Also, emotional stimuli like anger are processed by the same

part of the brain that deals with sexual arousal, so it is fair enough that sometimes the signals

get confused. Whilst this type of response seems to happen less with age, it seems to

explain the motive behind make-up sex, as anger processing is so close to sexual arousal

processing within the brain.

Even male fetuses inutero can experience erections as young as 16 weeks gestation and clearly

they're not fantasizing about anybody on Netflix.

We've all heard the expression 'going from six to midnight', but it's actually

during the early morning hours – more from midnight to six – that you're most likely

to be experiencing nocturnal erections. It's during these hours your body enters periods

of REM sleep, or dream sleep, and this is when you have 'nocturnal penile tumescence':

about three to five erections through the night that last for 25-35 minutes each. Whether

you're dreaming about your secret lover or Tuesday's English exam has nothing to

do with it.

Scientists believe the reason for this nighttime penile flexing is simply to maintain tissue

health through pumping oxygenated blood (about 4-and-a-half ounces) through the vessels and

tissues in the penis. Liiike doing your stretches without even having to try. Thanks Body!

Since REM sleep happens just before you wake up, you often enter wakefulness with the lingering

effects of your nocturnal erections, often called 'morning wood' or 'morning glory'.

Morning wood can make it tricky to pee in the morning since the urethra closes when

your penis tissues or corpora cavernosa are full of blood. If you just wait a little while

it will pass and you can enjoy a comfortable breakfast at the table with your family.

The next erectile phenomenon is the Reflex Erection. This erection can occur in response

to strong emotions like feeling angry, stressed or nervous, which seems like an outlandishly

inappropriate response in such a situation.

Another type of reflex erection could be caused by really needing to pee, because your bladder

sits right over your prostate gland and can apply pressure on it when its full. But as

discussed, an erection can make it difficult to pee, so good luck negotiating that vicious

cycle…

And of course there are the very normal Hormonal Erections experienced by every teenage boy

as he grows into an adult, leading to an average of 11 potentially embarrassing moments each

day. Puberty causes a surge of hormones that lead to these unexpected hard-ons that are

unfortunately outside of their control. Again, they do not necessarily equate to sexual arousal

and are just a healthy part of growing and lengthening penile tissues. So I suppose in

a scientific and anatomical sense, they're not so much comical as impressive, and a sign

of greater things to come.

Have you guys got an unwanted erection stories that you care to share, let us know in the

comments below

Video 098 What Info is on the KE2 Temp Webpage (FAQ: Walk in Freezers, Walkin Coolers) - Duration: 3:50.

Hi I'm Ryan Kliethermes with KE2 Therm.

The KE2 LDA communication device has created the ability to access the KE2 Temp family

of products through webpages.

This means you can now remotely monitor & adjust the controller's setpoints as well as receive

alarm notifications via text message or e-mail.

Before we jump onto the LDA, first make sure your devices are already connected to the

LDA and the LDA is connected to the network.

Next you should connect to the LDA using an Ethernet cable attached to the LAN port or

through wireless.

Now you're ready to start.

From your connected device, launch a web browser and navigate to the LDA's main page.

This is accomplished by either entering the direct IP address of

https:// one nine two dot one six eight dot fifty dot one

or https://ke2lda- last 6 digits of the LDA's MAC address

then you'll be on the KE2 LDA dashboard.

There are separate videos looking at the Dashboard and Management console if you need more information,

but for this video, we'll focus on the KE2 Temp controller.

Once we find the KE2 Temp in the list select it to display its webpage

Here we are on that KE2 Temp's webpage.

At the top we see the User Defined description of the controller.

Followed by the KE2 Therm controller type, and finally a button for the type of view,

Simple view is used primarily for end users and only displays basic information.

By selecting Show Advanced View, You can see the basic information as well

as current system states are shown

- so System Mode, which here is Refrigerate,

then the current Room Temperature,

the compressor relay, and alarm status.

Below this we have Manual System Control, which forces the controller to the next system

mode'.

they are Defrost, Refrigerate and Off

Then we get to the Setpoints section where you can make adjustments.

Clicking the question mark reveals the setpoint details.

Here for the Room Temperature we see the Limits, a min and max temperature,

And below that in gray we see the current setting.

We can scan across the row and see Air Temp Differential

Then Compressor Starts per Hour Defrost time

Defrosts per day Hi Temp Alarm Offset

High and Low Alarm Delay Low Temp Alarm Offset

Modbus Address Temperature Units

This can all be managed from the front of the controller, but using the webpage allows

all the setpoints to be seen together.

the last section of the webpage is the Device Info

So the firmware version Modbus address

Timeout counter which indicates the quality of the connection

The device name, this is where you give the controller a name that is meaningful to you,

the firmware ID, which for KE2 Temps, is always 20643,

and then the KE2 Therm controller designation.

One last thing I want to mention is that setting up alarm notifications for the KE2 Temp is

done on the KE2 LDAs Management console.

The webpages for the other serial controllers are formatted the same, here's the KE2 Temp

+ Valve

KE2 Low Temp and KE2 Adaptive Control webpages

Check out our other videos about the KE2 Temp and KE2 Evap family's individual webpages.

Assorted Attacks on the Bible (Romans 1:18-32) - Duration: 1:01:52.

For many months we have been studying on Sunday nights some doctrinal themes; that is subjects

which the Bible discusses, about which God has spoken which are critical to our faith

and life.

And beginning tonight, and for a few weeks to come, we're going to be looking at the

inspiration and authority of Scripture.

We open the Word of God every time we come together in the services on the Lord's Day,

in the classes that occur around this church campus, both Sunday morning and Sunday evening,

in the classes that occur through the week, in the Bible studies that occur in communities

all around, as you gather in small groups, the Word of God is opened in your homes.

Many of you are regularly reading through the Word of God day by day.

The Word of God is the topic of our conversation and it is, in our judgment the path, as the

Scripture itself says, "The Word is the way.

The Word is the lamp as well as the path."

We believe in the Word of God.

We believe that it is inspired.

We believe that it is without error in the original autographs, and God has protected

and preserved it to this day so that it substantially remains faithful to its original revelation.

We believe that when the Word speaks, we are commanded to listen.

That's why the Bible is the theme of everything we do.

We define life and ministry in biblical terms.

It is what we believe, it is how we behave, and it is the message we proclaim.

And the Bible claims to be the very Word of God and it does so in an unaffected and unambiguous

way.

Old Testament writers, for example, refer to what they wrote as the very words of God

over 3800 times.

New Testament writers quote the Old Testament as the Word of God 320 times and refer to

it at least 1000 times.

And New Testament writers repeatedly claim divine inspiration as did the Old.

Jesus Himself claimed that both the Old Testament and the New Testament are inspired by God.

There are a couple of definitive statements in the New Testament that sweep across our

Scriptures to define for us the nature of inspiration.

Listen to 2 Peter chapter 1 in verse 20, "But know this first of all, that no prophecy of

Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of

human will but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God."

The Scripture is written down by men who are not writing from any act of human will or

from any personal interpretation, but rather moved by the Holy Spirit to write down what

is spoken by God.

A very familiar portion of Scripture that speaks to this issue is found in Paul's second

letter to Timothy, chapter 3 in verse 16, "All Scripture is inspired by God," literally

theopneustos , God breathed.

It comes forth from God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction,

for training in righteousness that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every

good work.

All Scripture is inspired by God, and that inspiration means that it comes from God through

writers who are moved by the Spirit so that they write down what God has said and not

what they wish to say.

It is the very Word of God.

Those are just two definitive texts.

There, of course, are many more, and we'll look at some of those as the weeks progress.

Now obviously everything we need to know about God and about us and about salvation and about

the future and time and eternity is contained in the Scripture.

Everything is here.

All that God wants us to know is here.

That's why at the end of the last book, the book of Revelation, the Spirit of God prompted

John to write not to add anything to this book, nor take anything away.

This is consummate; this is complete.

It is even referred to by Jude as "the once for all delivered to the saints' faith."

It is a body of truth that was delivered at one time, not to be diminished and not to

be embellished.

Everything we need to know is here in this book in terms of our understanding of the

universe and God and our relationship to Him, as well as all other relationships.

Because everything that we need is in the Scripture, because we are saved by the Word

of truth, because we are sanctified by the truth, the Word of God, because we find our

hope of glory in the Word, because all instruction for living is contained here, this then becomes

the point of the enemies constant and relentless assault.

And we shouldn't be surprised at this at all.

Let's go back to Genesis chapter 3 and begin at the beginning.

Genesis chapter 3.

Now I want just to have us look briefly at the opening five verses of this very significant

chapter.

Chapters 1 and 2 describe the creation, Adam and Eve living in a world of bliss in a sin

free environment, in perfect communion and fellowship with God.

The end of chapter 2 sums it up.

"The man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed."

Shame didn't exist because sin didn't exist.

Everything changes in chapter 3 and I want you to see the nature of this.

"Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had

made, and he said to the woman, 'Indeed, has God said you shall not eat from any tree of

the garden?'

And the woman said to the serpent, 'From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat,

but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said you

shall not eat from it or touch it, lest you die.'

And the serpent said to the woman, 'You surely shall not die for God knows that in the day

you eat from it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.'

" And, of course, you remember the rest of the story.

She believed Satan, and ate and fell and took down the whole human race and stained the

entire universe in that one act.

Satan is a liar and "he's the father of lies," Jesus said in John 8:44, and here he works

his first great deception, and he works it very successfully.

Let's look back at verse 1 for a moment.

The serpent, Satan in the form of a snake, comes to the woman and he said to her, "Indeed

has God said you shall not eat from any tree of the garden?"

And of course we know that God in fact had said just that, that they were not to eat

of a particular tree of the garden, chapter 2 verse 16.

"From any tree of the garden you may eat freely, but from the tree of the knowledge of good

and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that eat from it you shall surely die."

So Satan comes to the woman and says, "Indeed, has God said?"

And you might ask, "Why does he comes to the woman rather than to Adam?"

Well perhaps 1 Peter 3:7 gives us the answer, "She is the weaker vessel, and her husband

is her protector to whom she is to submit and under whose protection she finds safety."

And so Satan finds her at a moment when she is vulnerable and unprotected, and his strategy

is progressively very, very deceptive.

And it begins with what appears to be a somewhat innocuous question, "Indeed has God said?"

This is the first question in the Bible, first question in the Bible, first question in human

history.

Up until this time there are no questions, only answers.

There are no mysteries.

There are no dilemmas until this one.

And the question is designed by Satan to start Eve on a path that legitimizes her questioning

what God has said.

That is the whole issue here, to lead her...and along with her, her husband...to question

the truthfulness of what God has said.

That's exactly what he does.

You can translate this in the Hebrew, "So, God has said, has He?"

And for the first time since creation, the most deadly spiritual force ever released

in this world was released, smuggled covertly, almost innocently on the surface into the

world, and that is this deadly force that you as a creature have a right to sit in judgment

on what God has said.

He leads Eve to question what God has said.

And Satan repeated what God said, "You shall not eat from any tree of the garden?"

And he turns it from a positive to a negative, leaving out the part about you can eat everything

else; twisting, perverting, inverting, putting the emphasis on what you can't do rather than

on all that you can do.

And in this way he presses the issue of prohibition.

And the real question that he's raising in her mind is, "Why in the world would God want

to restrict you?"

This is the main assault.

The question is, you have a right to sit in judgment on God and ask the question why would

He say things that restrict you.

This is a negative statement.

This is a prohibition.

This is restrictive and narrow and limiting.

And the implication is why would God, if He were fully good, do that?

There is something in God's character, is the implication, that makes Him want to restrain

your free will, that makes Him want to limit your pleasure, your joy, your satisfaction,

your fulfillment, yes your freedom.

Somehow God is tampering with your rights.

He's taking away some of your choices.

And that raises the question about why He would do that.

What would make Him do that?

Is He cruel?

Is that the reason?

And maybe if there's some flaw in His character that makes Him put this limit on you, He is

not to be totally trusted.

And so Satan has set in her mind the idea that the one prohibition, which was really

a means by which they could demonstrate obedience, now becomes, in Eve's thinking, evidence of

a divine character flaw, casting suspicion on God's character and causing her to render

judgment on what God has said as if she had a right to determine whether it was good or

bad, right or wrong.

She has now been set in motion to distrust what God has said.

She responds in a very weak fashion, verse 2, "The woman said to the serpent, 'From the

fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat.'

" She should have taken a strong stand right there on what she knew to be true about God.

She knew God.

She knew God was true and spoke only the truth, that she knew God was perfect goodness.

She had a very clear command that was not at all ambiguous.

She should have been suspicious of anybody who caused her to question God.

Actually, she should have been suspicious of a talking snake.

And she does make a stab at defending God in verse 3, "But from the fruit of the tree

which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat from it.'

" And then she adds this, " 'or touch it, lest you die.'

" Her reply is...is weak.

And I really believe that this is where the fall occurred, right there, before she ever

ate anything.

As soon as she did not completely and wholeheartedly and unreservedly trust in the Word of God

as true and good and the source of our highest joy and maximum fulfillment, mistrust in God

had gained a foothold and sin had entered her heart and the fall had taken place.

Not only does she not defend God, but she adds to what God said to make Him seem more

harsh by saying, "You shall not eat from it or touch it."

God didn't say that.

But now she is accepting this as unnecessarily restrictive.

In fact, it is so restrictive that she's even making it more restrictive.

It's irritating her now that God has put this restriction on her.

God has been judged as giving a command that is unacceptable and untrustworthy.

And that was the fall, to distrust what God has said.

Everything after this is just evidence of the fall.

Verse 4, "The serpent said to the woman, 'You surely shall not die.'

" Satan moves in because he knows where she is, he knows that she has distrusted the Word

of God.

She doesn't any longer believe that God is necessarily trustworthy.

There is a flaw in His character.

He is unnecessarily restrictive and she should be free, and she has a right to sit in judgment

on what God has done and even to speak of it as more restrictive than it is because

she's bought into its negativity.

And Satan knows that she has fallen.

And so he moves in for a full denial of God's Word and he says, "You surely shall not die.

God lied.

God lied."

In fact, God lies and here's an illustration of it.

I tell the truth, is what Satan is saying, and he's still saying it today even though

he's the arch liar.

You're not going to die.

God is not truthful.

His Word cannot be trusted as revealed.

He does not have your best interest in view.

And so she has bought into the fact that God is flawed and deceptive and needlessly restrictive

and takes away freedom and limits joy.

And Satan says, "You won't die.

You won't die.

Free yourself from these restrictions, do what you want, no limit, no judgment, no consequences.

Be free.

A God like that is not loving.

A God like that is not kind.

A restrictive God, He's law, He's not love.

I'm love," says Satan, "I give you freedom.

Follow me and do whatever you want."

And then the question is going to be naturally asked in Eve's mind, "Well why would He do

that?

Why would He restrain doing that?"

And Satan has an answer, verse 5, "God knows that in a day you eat from it your eyes will

be opened and you'll be like God, knowing good and evil."

He doesn't want you to be like Him.

He's jealous.

He's envious.

He's protective.

He wants to remain superior.

He lies because He hates rivals.

Where did Satan pick that up?

Satan tried to be a rival of God, didn't he?

And he was thrown out of heaven.

"You do what you want, you be free like He is.

He does what He wants and He's free and there's no restrictions on Him, and there ought to

be no restrictions on you.

And the only reason He put restrictions on you is because He hates rivals."

So the father of lies brought down the whole human race on the premise that God's Word

cannot be trusted as revealed.

It is deceptive because God is flawed and He is flawed by jealousy.

Contrast Jesus' perfect trust in God's Word, perfect trust through suffering severe deprivation

and restraint of His own divine prerogatives in His incarnation and, particularly, in His

temptation where He still says, "Man shall not live by bread alone but by every Word

that proceeds out of the mouth of God."

Well without taking time to trace the full flow of this satanic assault, Scripture reveals

the history that began that day and continues all the way to the end of the book of Revelation.

It is a history of attacks on the Word of God through an endless and relentless array

of false prophets, false teachers, liars, false apostles, deceivers, all the way from

Genesis to Revelation.

And the attack is going on even today.

The battle for biblical authority wages in every generation, in every location.

There is always the battle for the Bible.

There is always a need to rise to the defense of Scripture.

I could define my own life in terms of the focus of those battles.

If I just break down the ten-year periods of my life and ministry, approaching 40 years

here.

In those early years it was the battle over the inerrancy issue and the authority of Scripture.

And for ten years I was on the inerrancy council led by Dr.

Jim Boice with 100 scholars and we were working hard writing, producing material that defended

the authority and inerrancy of Scripture.

And out of that came the Chicago statement on biblical inerrancy, monumental statement

for the church historically.

And once we had dealt with the front attacks of the critics, then along came the Charismatic

Movement, and the Mystical Movement and we had to deal with that as well.

In the next few years of my ministry, maybe that second decade of my ministry here, was

a battle to defend the singularity of Scripture because everybody and their brother had a

new revelation and a new word of wisdom and a new word of knowledge.

And there was a proliferation of supposed words from God, words from Jesus.

People were accumulating all these revelations and we were set for the defense of the singularity

of Scripture against those kinds of attacks.

And then Scripture began to be attacked by the psychologists and the pragmatists who

wanted to set the Bible aside and establish the necessity of human wisdom at some point

or another to establish truth to which the Bible could add some spiritual insight.

And more recently, another issue dealing with the Bible is the attack on its clarity, that

it's not understandable, that it's not comprehensible, that it's impossible to interpret it accurately

or be dogmatic.

It's one assault after another and that's been the battleground and always will be the

battleground and always should be, because, as I said at the beginning, everything that

we need is in the Word of God.

Now, let me just talk to you a little bit.

I give you a more of a classroom approach tonight of some of the things that are assaulting

the Scripture that you just need to know about.

And some of these things we would kind of see as friendly fire.

They come from people that appear to be Christians, and in some cases actually are Christians

who get deceived in their understanding of Scripture.

Some illustrations of that.

There was an article a few years ago in the tenth anniversary issue of Modern Reformation

Magazine, which was a magazine for many years that upheld sola scriptura.

But this particular article was entitled, "The insufficiency of Scripture."

The article was written by a man named Gordon who is a minister in the Presbyterian Church

in America, a denomination that came out of the Presbyterian Church USA because it had

gone liberal and denied the Scripture.

And in this article he suggests that Scripture is not really as complete a guide to life

as most Reformed people think it is.

He specifically argues that the information given to us in Scripture is not sufficient

to tell us how to have successful marriages.

He picks on the issue of marriage.

He says this, quote, "Whereas Scripture teaches us that marriage is a lifelong commitment,

Scripture is manifestly not sufficient to teach people how to attain that end.

Oh yes, Scripture contains some broad principles such as those encountered in Ephesians 5 or

in Proverbs 29, but for all the evangelical talk about roles of men and women, such talk

has obviously not produced happy or successful marriages," end quote.

And then he goes on to say this.

"That ten years ago he affirmed the full sufficiency of Scripture in harmony with the standard

Reformed position on that matter."

Today he suggests that those who drafted the first chapter of the Westminster Confession

of Faith might have stated the case better if they had nuance their language a little.

The Westminster Confession affirms the sufficiency of Scripture.

Here's what the Westminster Confession says, "The whole counsel of God concerning all things

necessary for His own glory, man's salvation, faith and life is either expressly set down

in Scripture or by good and necessary consequence may be deduced from Scripture."

That is the Westminster Confession.

That's been the standard for Reformed theology for centuries.

Gordon, however, says, "The entire matter would have been better expressed had the divines

articulated a more manifestly covenantal statement indicating that the Scriptures are a sufficient

guide to the various covenants God has made with various covenant people."

In other words, he would like something much more vague.

We should not make claims for Scripture's specific sufficiency but we should talk about

it in very large and broad categories.

He particularly suggests that the expression "faith and life" ought to be interpreted in

a narrow religious sense.

That is, it doesn't really refer to life outside one's relationship to God, that is life in

relationship to anybody else.

And you would ask the question, what made someone who had held to the view of sola scriptura

and Scripture sufficiency...what would make someone like that back away from that?

What made him change from an unqualified affirmation that the Bible contains all things necessary

for God's glory, man's salvation, faith and life?

Here's what he said.

He changed his mind about biblical sufficiency when he saw a survey indicating that the divorce

rate among evangelicals is about the same as, or worse than the divorce rate among unbelievers.

And so he changed his view of Scripture because he saw a survey.

He writes, "The large practical matter that has influenced my thinking about the matter

of the sufficiency of Scripture has been the publication of findings that the evangelical

divorce rate is roughly the same as that of the general population.

If we ask why evangelicals divorce at the same rate as those who do not necessarily

recognize the Bible as the source of authoritative guidance, the answer must be something like

this: that whereas Scripture teaches us that marriage is a lifelong commitment, Scripture

is manifestly not sufficient to teach people how to attain that end."

He goes on to suggest that believing in the sufficiency of Scripture might even work against

the success of evangelical marriages.

He says, quote, "I would suggest that part of the reason our unbelieving friends succeed

as often in marriage as we do is that they're never hoodwinked by any misunderstanding of

the sufficiency of Scripture."

Now just what survey is he talking about here that made him jettison his theology?

Well it was a survey in December of 1999 with a press release entitled, "Christians are

more likely to experience divorce than are non-Christians."

I remember when that survey came across my desk.

I was pretty shocked.

It said 27 percent of born-again Christians have been divorced compared to 24 percent

of non-Christians who have been divorced.

Well that statistic in itself doesn't prove anything.

Were they divorced before they became Christians?

The survey also said the divorce rate among atheists and agnostics is well below the norm;

only 21 percent of atheists and agnostics have ever been divorced, so 27 percent of

born-again Christians and 21 percent of atheists and agnostic.

And immediately one question flooded my mind.

By what criteria did you determine who is a born-again Christian?

Fair enough?

By what criteria did you determine who is a born-again Christian?

And as I dug deeper into the survey, it became apparent that there is no way of determining

that the people that are classified as born-again even go to church.

They were deemed born-again on the basis of two questions.

Question one; have you ever made a personal commitment to Jesus that is still important

in your life?

What does that mean?

Have you ever made a personal commitment to Jesus that is still important in your life?

Catholics can say that, Mormons can say that, Jehovah's Witnesses can say that, all kinds

of people can say that.

And there was also a multiple-choice question, one of seven possible answers; when I die,

I will go to heaven because I have confessed my sins and accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior.

Now, on the surface that sounds fine, the Roman Catholics can say that, Mormons can

say that, all kinds of cultists can say that, people who don't understand the meaning of

the death of Christ can say that.

There is nothing there about the resurrection.

There's nothing about the nature of Christ, the nature of God, the nature of the atonement.

If they said yes, however, to the first question that they made some personal commitment to

Jesus, and they chose the right multiple-choice category, they were classified as born-again.

But we live in a culture where language about accepting Jesus Christ as personal Savior

has become cliché.

There's nothing in those two questions to guarantee that a person is truly born again.

In fact, if you survey further the born again people, 45 percent say that Satan is not a

living being but a symbol of evil.

Thirty-four percent believe that if a person is good enough, they'll earn a place in heaven.

These are the born-again people, by their standard.

Twenty-eight percent agree that while He lived on earth Jesus committed sins just like everybody

else.

Fifteen percent of born-again Christians claim that after He was crucified and died, He did

not return to life physically.

Twenty-six percent believe it doesn't matter what faith you follow because they all teach

the same thing.

So you start out with a statistic that says more born-again Christians get divorced than

atheists and agnostics.

And that's shocking until you find out that you're only dealing with people who profess

to be Christians.

And now, in our country, I think it's reached almost 80 percent plus.

And it caused a man to jettison completely his confidence in the sufficiency of Scripture.

Those are really strange and yet common occurrences today, people abandoning historic true doctrine

for the most whimsical of reasons.

And because we have lost all ability to really define what it is to be a true Christian,

you can virtually distrust every survey that identifies such.

Now let me just talk about some categories.

Where do the attacks come from?

Number one, the attacks come from critics.

There are those on the scholastic side who still continually assault the Scripture.

It all comes out of German liberalism, the Graf-Wellhousen higher criticism theory tied

to a recovery in Barthian Neo-Orthodoxy; left a legacy that swept through the major denominations,

swept through the colleges, universities and seminaries and just smashed and crushed biblical

inspiration.

This has been confronted.

It has been dealt with for years and years and years, flat out over denial of Scripture

as from God, true, inerrant, inspired and authoritative.

And it goes on even today in the most bizarre and foolish ways.

Whenever you turn on your television and you see some examination of the Bible, you're

going to hear from these critics.

I was contacted recently by the History Channel and asked if I would be willing to be a regular

expert and a regular contributor to discussions of the Bible.

I couldn't say no fast enough because I don't want to be hacked up, cut up, edited and stuck

in between all of those people who deny Scripture.

Perhaps the leading group that are always, always polled and interviewed, whenever the

discussion about the Bible, are those who belong to what's called The Jesus Seminar.

Have you heard of that?

The Jesus Seminar?

They've garnered space in the silly religion sections of newspapers which normally provide

a list of places to be sure and avoid.

These self-appointed dead and blind are a number over 200, over 200 pseudo scholars

professing to be wise.

They are fools.

They claim to be the scholastic authorities on Jesus and on the Bible.

And they make their decisions about the Bible based upon a majority vote.

They have a curious way to do it.

They take a section of the Bible and they vote on it.

Each participant drops a red bead into a ballot box for sayings that he or she believe are

probably authentic.

In other words, it probably is true.

Pink beads mean possibly authentic.

Gray beads were used for sayings that they think have been altered by the disciples or

early Christians.

Black beads are the strongest; that's a no vote used for passages deemed entirely fabricated

or spoken by someone other than who the Bible says spoke it.

The results are astonishing.

The group decreed that only 31 of the more than 700 sayings attributed to Jesus in the

gospels are really authentic.

And 16 of those 31 are duplicates from parallel passages.

More than half the sayings of Jesus received the dreaded black bead.

All totaled, the panel utterly rejected 80 percent of the words that Scripture attributes

to Jesus.

Among the ousted passages, Matthew 5:11, "Blessed are you when men cast insults at you and persecute

you and say all kinds of evil against you falsely on account of Me."

And also Mark 10:32 to 34 in which Jesus foretold His crucifixion.

They rejected all the apocalyptic section, that is all about the future.

They rejected everything in the gospel of John except one verse, verse 44 of chapter

4 which got a pink vote.

And what it says is, "A prophet has no honor in his country."

The seminar founder, Robert Funk, reckons most mainline scholars will agree with their

dumping of John's gospel because, he says, "Jesus speaks regularly in adages or aphorisms

or in parables or in witticisms created as a rebuff or retort in the context of dialogue

and debate.

It is clear He did not speak in long monologues of the type found in the gospel of John,"

end quote.

And one would wonder just exactly how in the world he knows that.

Thus decaying flotsam from the shipwreck of liberal theology continues to wash ashore.

And by the way, that...that which I quoted you is something I wrote some time back, and

you know you're in trouble when you start quoting yourself.

That's as bad as preaching such a good sermon, you autograph your own Bible.

What you've got in the Jesus Seminar and what you've got in liberal theology is the radical

protesters on university campuses in the '60s.

They are now in the middle management positions and ascending to the top management in the

university system.

Their ideological creed has become the test of orthodoxy in most academic circles.

Scholars are expected to march lock step behind them and anybody who doesn't basically can

lose his job in the religion or philosophy department or sociology department in the

university.

And there are sacred dogmas to these liberals.

Equality for women, homosexuality as an alternate life style, environmental activism, animal

rights, racial quotas, hard line anti-war doctrine and so on.

And they will censure anybody who challenges any of those, especially Jesus, especially

Jesus.

One merely needs to look at the panel's decisions to understand what their real agenda is.

The parables of the Good Samaritan, the Unjust Steward, the Mustard Seed, passages that are

critical of the rich, commands to love one's enemies, and verses that treat disciples...that

entreat disciples to love one another get the red beads.

Anytime you help the poor, the downcast and the lowly, they buy into that.

Passages that call for repentance, affirm Jesus' deity, make difficult demands of disciples,

speak of the need of redemption and the new birth, they are literally blackballed.

And they're not finished yet.

They're going to stay at it, assaulting the Word and propounding this at every point where

they can find someone who will listen to them.

This is just one illustration of this attack on the Bible that comes from liberals.

We could say a lot more about it but let's...let's move on a little bit.

We could talk about the new perspective on Paul, which assaults the New Testament understanding

of the doctrine of justification.

We could talk about the openness of God, which attacks the very nature of God.

Perhaps I should say a word about that.

Open theism is a new liberal agenda item that starts with the denial that God perfectly

knows or controls the future.

Open theism is the idea that God is open to the future.

He has no idea what the future holds.

He has no clue.

He's just like you and I.

He's trying to react to what is going on, and He has no more foreknowledge of anything

than you or I do because it hasn't happened, therefore He can't know about it.

He doesn't know what's going to happen until people make choices.

He doesn't know what the choices will be and He's responding like a very, very adept chess

player doing His best to accomplish His will in counter response to the moves of all of

us.

This is a very, very popular, widespread, developing viewpoint.

It has intruded into evangelical, quote, "Evangelical Theological Society," which up to now has

been unwilling to dismiss people who hold that view.

It attacks the very nature of God Himself.

It attacks the deity of God.

God is not the God He claims to be.

He does not speak truly of Himself when He says He knows the end from the beginning;

therefore, God is a liar and it is rehearsal of exactly what we saw in the garden.

Every assault by these critics that denies any portion of Scripture is a battle that

has to be fought and a point at which we have to defend the authority of Scripture.

But you have not only assaults from critics; you have assaults from cultists, cultists.

And this is just...I'm not going to say a lot about this.

Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, Christian Science, Theosophy, Unitarianism, all the way down

the line to bizarre and strange smaller cults; these people who do not accept the Word of

God and its accurate interpretation, but want to add to the Word of God the writings of

some...some persons, some angel whether it's Joseph Smith, or whether it's Mary Baker Eddy

Patterson Glover Frye...she had a husband issue, obviously...in Christian Science, or

whether it's Judge Rutherford or Annie Besant or anybody else that contributed to these

cults and isms.

They assault the Word of God relentlessly with these documents that twist and pervert

Scripture, authored by Satan himself.

Then there are attacks, I would say, from the Charismatics.

And I say that knowing that that's a hard thing for some of us to hear.

But when you say that the Bible is not the end of revelation, this is not all that God

has said, He's saying more, He's giving new revelations, new visions, voices from heaven,

trips to heaven, trips to hell, mystical hyper-subjectivity intuitive, secretive, mystical interpretations,

you are assaulting the Scripture.

You are assaulting the Scripture.

It is so critical for us to understand that we have no further revelation from God than

that which is written in Scripture, no further revelation from God than that which is written

in Scripture.

You even hear people today talk about, "Listen for the voice of God, listen and God will

speak to you.

Train yourself to hear the voice of God."

That is not only ridiculous but dangerous.

If you want to hear the voice of God, open your Bible and read what God has said.

There's a fourth attack that I would just mention to you, just to give you some idea

of the landscape, the attack that comes from the culture.

From the critics, from the cults, from the Charismatics, from the culture.

We live in a day when culture is telling the church what the Bible will be allowed to say.

A great illustration of this is the publication of the TNIV.

Zondervan Publishing Company produces a Bible called the TNIV.

The TNIV is distinguished by its deference to the Feminist Movement.

It has altered the Word of God, changed the Word of God to make it compatible to the contemporary

Feminist Egalitarian Movement.

And that is not the only one that has done that; there are others that have done it as

well.

The Word of God is not ever to be used in such a way as to accommodate a cultural perception.

You do not take the Word of God, twist the Word of God, alter the Word of God change

the Word of God, embellish the Word of God, diminish the Word of God in order to achieve

something that accommodates cultural expectations.

But that is being done and it's being done at the very core when it's being done with

Bible translation.

When you translate a Bible, you have one responsibility.

You take the Word in the original Hebrew, or Aramaic in the few places in the Old Testament

where Aramaic occurs.

You take the Word in the Greek in the New Testament and you translate it.

You find the closest possible translation in the language into which you're translating

the Bible and that's what you do.

You do not change the Word because you think the culture would like it to be said another

way.

That's not a true and pure translation.

Especially do you not adapt the Bible to sinful cultural attitudes, expectations, demands.

That's the worst of all.

So we cannot allow the culture to define either how we translate the Bible or how we interpret

the Bible.

I was reading a...a book by one of the emerging church guys and he was asked the question,

"Do you take homosexuals into your church?

Do you allow homosexuals to be church members?"

And his response was, "Sure, we also have people who are overweight and people who like

chocolate."

So you take homosexuality and put it at the level of being overweight and liking chocolate

because you want to redefine the church and the Bible in terms that are acceptable to

the culture.

So there is always that attempt to twist, to subvert, to alter the Scripture because

the culture is putting certain demands on us.

And along that line, I just want to mention something to you that I went over with the

men in the seminary.

And I even talked to the college kids about it last year.

And that is, in the new emerging church movement, the trend is to say, and this really accommodates

the culture bit time, that the Bible's not clear.

Boy, that is a really comfortable spot to land.

"Well, we believe the Bible; we love the Bible, but let's be honest, it's not clear.

We can't really know what it means by what it says.

We can't really be dogmatic.

We can't really be sure that we can interpret it rightly.

It's a really ancient book.

There are all kinds of interpretations.

We never can say we got it right," as Brian McClaren says.

"Nobody's gotten it right yet and I don't have it right either, and let's not have anybody

say they got it right."

That is the most convenient cultural accommodation.

It can say, "Well the Bible is true, and God gave us the Bible, but we really haven't got

any idea what the Bible means."

So you have people saying things like this, here's another somewhat well-known evangelical

who's changed his view and he says, quote, "Certitude is often idolatrous.

I have been forced to give up certitude.

If there's a foundation in Christian theology, it's not found in Scripture.

Theology must be a humble human attempt to hear God, never about rational approaches

to texts."

You can't go to the text and use your mind and get the truth.

You have to much more humble than that.

Theology is a humble, human attempt.

You can't find a foundation for Christian theology in the Scripture.

Why?

Because it's not comprehensible.

Brian McClaren says, "Clarity is sometimes overrated."

Lesslie Newbigin says, "The gospel is not a matter of certainties."

You have writers coming along like N.T.

Wright in England writing prolific material about the Bible and basically coming up with

new ways to understand everything as if everybody has always had it wrong until now.

Which causes one to ask, "Well, if everybody else is wrong and through history they've

always had it wrong, why would it be that you're right?"

Which feeds again the mentality we can never quite get it straight.

And when you think about the Word of God, you have to understand that the Bible claims

for itself clarity, clarity.

Let me just give you some thoughts about that as we wrap up.

Romans 1, "If the sinner is held responsible for the revelation of God in creation and

the revelation of God and the law written in his heart and conscience - " Romans 2 - "so

that he is without excuse."

That is if he is held responsible before God, culpable before God, guilty before God for

rejecting that revelation which is manifest in creation and conscience, if he's without

excuse at that point, then believe me, he is without excuse for rejecting that revelation

which God has written down in His Word.

The sinner is responsible.

Scripture is clear.

Scripture is necessarily plain because God, its author, Creator, Redeemer, and Judge speaks

plainly or He cannot accomplish His redemption.

If He does not speak plainly then people cannot know what they are to believe and how they

are to respond.

If He does not speak plainly, they cannot know of salvation, they cannot know of judgment

to come.

They cannot know of heaven and hell.

They cannot know of sin and righteousness.

But they must know and they are held responsible to know.

Scripture yields its meaning to ordinary reason and literal sense.

There are no secret hidden implicit mystery meanings.

It is everywhere called light.

It is even light to those who reject it.

John 3, "They hate the light and they run from the light because it is light."

Scripture is clear not only because it is manifestly clear, in and of itself, and clear

to the reasonable mind, but because the Spirit of God illuminates it.

And by grace the Spirit makes what is incomprehensible comprehensible to the one upon whom the Spirit

moves.

To give you an illustration of the clarity of Scripture, I would only say this.

The Old Testament Scripture which may seem to some people a bit unclear is, in fact,

so clear that God holds people and has always held them responsible for what was revealed

in the Old Testament.

Jesus Himself, for example, in His teaching, in His conversations, in His dialogues and

disputes and debates never ever one time said to the Jews, "I understand your confusion.

The Old Testament is really hard, very difficult and often unclear."

He never says that, never.

He is speaking to first century people.

They are...they are 1000 years from David.

They are 1500 years from Moses and they are 2000 years after Abraham.

And Jesus still assumes that they are able to read and rightly interpret the Old Testament

Scripture.

If it were impossible to understand the Scriptures for some people who were removed 1000 years

away, or 2000 years away as they're telling us it is for those of us now removed 2000

years from the writing of the New Testament, then we would expect that Jesus would say

something like, "I see how your problem arose."

But He never said that.

And whether He is speaking to scholars, Pharisees and scribes, or to common people, He always

assumes that they are to blame for their misunderstanding of any teaching in the Scripture.

Again and again He says, "Have you not read?

Have you never read?

Have you never read the Scriptures?"

He says to them, "You're wrong because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power

of God.

Your problem is, you don't search the Scriptures.

They are they which speak of Me."

Would you also go so far as to say this?

It is even to be understood by uninitiated Gentiles.

Paul writing to the Corinthians, 1 Corinthians 10, says, "The Old Testament Scriptures were

given for our instruction even as Gentiles."

And when the Lord was on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24, He opened the Old Testament, the

law of the prophets and the holy writings, and He explained to them the things concerning

Himself which they ought to have already understood.

And think about the New Testament epistles.

You say, "Well, the New Testament's really hard."

Is that right?

New Testament epistles were not written to theologians, they were not written to church

leaders, they were not written to scholars.

They were written to congregations, to the church of God at Corinth, to the churches

of Galatia, to all the saints in Christ Jesus at Philippi, and so forth.

Always to the churches, to the lowest common denominator, the person who was a new believer

in Jesus Christ.

And Paul assumes in every letter and so does Peter, and so does James, and so does John,

so does Jude, that his hearers will understand exactly what he writes.

For example, in Colossians 4:16, Paul says, "When this letter has been read among you,

have it read also in the church of the Laodiceans and see that you read the letter from Laodicea."

Spread the letters around and read them all in every church.

So you have to understand that first century Christians were held responsible for an understanding

of the Scripture.

First century Gentile Christians were held responsible for an understanding of New Testament

Scripture based on Old Testament Scripture.

The New Testament epistles were written to churches that had dominant Gentile converts

with no Old Testament background, coming right out of paganism with no knowledge of the Old

Testament whatsoever.

And they had the responsibility to understand and to obey.

The Scripture will be attacked all the time, relentlessly from every angle, whether it's

coming from critics or cultists or Charismatics who want to add to it, whether it's coming

from the culture.

I could even throw in the capricious, the silly, foolish attacks on Scripture like Bible

codes.

I was one time on the radio program and somebody said, "What do you think of Bible codes?"

And I said, "Well I'll tell you what I think of Bible codes.

I think you better be careful when you say God said something He didn't say, because

for that God condemns false teachers."

It's clear what God said in the Bible.

But to find some acrostic in a computer and think that what God said is written in a diagonal

up this way and halfway down that side and that what God meant to say was that Gandhi

would die in October of 1984 is a far cry from the revelation of God.

In fact, people have found the same stuff in Moby Dick.

There are always attacks, finally, on the Scripture from carnal wisdom.

The people look at the Bible and they say, "Well, that's not reasonable.

I don't like the doctrine of election.

I don't like the doctrine of eternal punishment.

I'm going to trump God."

The attacks from carnal wisdom.

"I can't accept that."

Dangerous stuff.

We bow the knee completely to the Word of God.

We stand in defense of it by lifting it up and letting it defend itself.

And that's what we're going to do starting next Sunday night.

We're going to get past all this, negative attacks in which we sort of set the issues

in view, and we're going to look at how the Bible exalts its own authority.

Well enough for tonight.

Let's pray.

Father, we thank You for the...the Word.

What can we say?

And we have been in it for years and years and years and years and it vindicates itself

every time.

It is alive and powerful and pure and true and penetrating.

It is destructive to those who reject it.

It is constructive to those who accept it.

It is the living Word.

We thank You for Your Word.

We rest all our hope in it, all our faith is based upon its truth.

May we be not just defenders but proclaimers of its glorious truth and may we be obedient

to it.

We thank You for the treasure that it is, that its treasury is inexhaustible, its riches

are limitless and always available to those who will open its pages prayerfully, carefully

study it.

We thank You for it.

We pray that in this day when so many are assaulting Your Word there might be a great

movement back to lifting it up.

"You've exalted Your Word - " Psalm 138:2 says -"even as high as Your own name."

And we do the same.

We're thankful for it, for in it we know all that You want us to know, all that we need

to know so that we can give you glory.

For this we offer our praise in Christ's name.

Amen.

Welcome to Network Marketing Pro.

My name is Eric Worre.

Today I want to talk to you about the power of assumption.

What happens when we assume?

And I think people when they first get involved in network marketing, they use this power

not to their benefit.

They use it to their detriment.

Here's what I mean by that.

Too many times people assume negative.

They assume something bad is going to happen.

They assume they are going to be rejected.

They assume that people aren't going to join.

They assume that people are going to be too busy.

They assume that people don't have enough money.

They assume that people already have a job that they love.

They assume that people are living the life of their dreams.

They assume all of these different things.

And the majority of the times those assumptions are wrong.

And here's what happens when you assume those types of things.

You start to project those things.

When you assume somebody doesn't have the time, you are going to start projecting in

little ways the fact that you probably don't have a lot of time.

I know you are busy, can we just find a little time to get together.

Could you squeeze this business into your busy schedule?

You start to assume and to project those assumptions into the conversation.

And that projection is not healthy when you use this in a negative term.

Now here's the other side of the coin.

And here's what the leaders inside of network marketing and in entrepreneurship in general

do.

They assume success.

They assume radical success.

They assume people are going to find the money.

They assume people are going to find the time.

They assume that people are probably not happy with their current situation, that they aren't

making enough cash flow, that they're not working at the job of their dreams.

They're not living up to their true purpose.

They assume all of those things.

They assume people are going to want to engage with their products.

They assume that people are going to want to start their own business.

They assume that people are going to be impressed with their opportunity, with their company.

They assume that people will find the time and find the way to get to the company convention.

They assume all of those things and more.

And with that assumption they start to project those things.

And they project those results.

See if you assume in the negative, you project the negative and that starts to come back

at you.

Your assumption proves real.

But if you assume on the positive, you will start to project into that positive, in a

thousand little ways that you can't even measure and the return of that assumption to the positive

is going to give you the results that you and the person you are talking to are looking

for.

So assumptions and projections are very powerful things, make sure that you are avoiding engaging

in the negative assumption and projection, and you are leaning in to the positive assumption

and projection.

That's what leaders do.

That's our show for today.

I hope you got value.

Why We Believe While Others Reject - Duration: 52:57.

It was about 25 years ago in my life that I was asked to write a little book, and the

original title of that little book was Focus on Fact .

You've probably never seen it; it didn't last very long.

It came out in another edition with another title a couple of years later, and that title

was Why I Trust The Bible .

It was 1983.

And as I was preparing to write that book about why I trust the Bible, which is really

what the first one was about as well, I had to answer the question why did I trust the

Bible.

What was it about the truth of Scripture that made it believable to me?

Was I smarter than everybody else?

Had I been presented a more powerful set of evidences about Scripture?

And certainly such can be presented.

Why did I have such immense confidence in the Bible?

I can remember, in my college days, when very little appealed to me other than an athletic

event, when I found my greatest joy on a football field, that even then I had complete confidence

in the Word of God.

I actually couldn't wait to get to seminary.

And when I decided that I would give up an athletic career and opportunity on a professional

level to go off to seminary, some of my athletes, athletic friends and coaches, couldn't understand

the reason.

And it really wasn't that I had a drive to preach or a drive to teach.

I had this compelling longing to dig into the Word of God and understand what it meant

because I was unequivocally committed to its truthfulness.

Where did that come from?

Why was I so convinced of the truth of Scripture?

I hadn't studied apologetics or defenses of Scripture.

I hadn't read a lot of that.

There was just, in my heart, a complete commitment to the Word of God.

And when I sat down to think about why I trusted the Bible, I looked at some passages of Scripture

that came into play.

I remembered that Jesus had said to Peter in Matthew 16, "Flesh and blood did not reveal

this to you, but My Father who is in heaven."

And that the reason that Peter knew that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God, was because

of divine disclosure, divine revelation.

And then I looked at 1 Corinthians chapter 12 in verse 3 which says, "No man can say

that Jesus is Lord except by the Spirit of God."

It is reasonable to me to say that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.

It is reasonable to me to say Jesus is Lord.

But no one can say that, as reasonable as it now appears to me to be, unless the Father

discloses it and the Spirit reveals it.

I was also drawn to John chapter 6 where Jesus was speaking and many of His disciples, it

says, "went away."

And He said to those that stayed, "Will you also go away?"

And out of the mouth of Peter on behalf of the rest came these words, "To whom shall

we go?

You and You alone have the words of eternal life."

Another massive affirmation that what the Lord Jesus Christ says, what God says is true.

It had been, again, Jesus says given Him of the Father.

Jesus even says in that passage, "Have not I chosen you?"

And then I was reminded...and I might ask you to look at this passage...of Romans chapter

8.

In very clear terms we read this in verse 5.

"For those who are according to the flesh - " that is apart from God, apart from spiritual

life, spiritually dead, blind, bankrupt - "those who are according to the flesh set their minds

on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of

the Spirit."

You have two mutually exclusive dimensions.

The mind set on the flesh, verse 6, is death.

The mind set on the Spirit is life and peace.

Verse 7, "The mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God."

And then this, "It does not subject itself to the Law of God for it is not even able

to do so.

And those who are in the flesh cannot please God."

If you're in the flesh, you can't please God.

It would please God if you believed the Bible.

In fact, that would be at the top of God's list of things that please Him.

It would please God if you believed the gospel.

That would also be on the top of the list of things that would please Him.

It would please God if you affirmed the deity and the saviorhood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

That would please God.

Those three things would be the top of God's list of things that please Him.

And the fact of the matter is, if you are in the flesh, you cannot please God.

You can't please Him at the lowest level, let alone at the pinnacle.

So how is it then that I came to have such confidence in the Scripture?

I was reminded again of Ephesians chapter 4 which says, essentially, what Romans 8 says

in a different way.

Verse 17 of Ephesians 4, "I say therefore and affirm together with the Lord that you

walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk in the emptiness of their mind, being darkened

in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that

is in them, because of the hardness of their heart."

Now that litany of descriptions is intended to give you the idea that this is an utterly

inescapable spot for the unregenerate apart from divine intervention.

And so I concluded that by the normal means of human insight and human understanding,

I could not have come to this confidence in Scripture.

That the only way that I could come to this confidence in Scripture is because God had

given it to me as a gift, that God in His sovereignty had given me the will to believe

the gospel, to believe in Christ and to embrace the authenticity, authority and veracity of

Scripture.

And so, in 1983, when I put out the second edition of the little book called Why I Trust

The Bible , this is what I wrote.

"Unbelievers cannot accept legitimate proof because they are blind to it.

The natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God for they are foolishness

to him, neither can he know them because they are spiritually discerned - " 1 Corinthians

2:14 - "only as the Holy Spirit does His regenerating work as He opens the mind, tears off the scales

of blindness, gives life and plants the understanding of God's revelation, only then do people believe

that the Bible is the Word of God and trust it."

I know the Bible is true because the Spirit of God has convinced me of it.

I wrote that 25-plus years ago.

In light of this, I said in the next paragraph...and you know you're in trouble when you keep quoting

yourself.

"In light of this I suggest a change in our approach.

We have been saying prophecy has been fulfilled, the Bible is scientifically accurate, miracles

were performed with eyewitnesses, the biblical message of salvation through faith in Jesus

Christ results in a revolutionary change in the lives of persons who believe.

Because of all these proofs, we reason the Bible is the Word of God."

And then I wrote, "Instead, I propose that we declare the Bible is the Word of God, therefore

prophecy has been fulfilled, miracles have taken place, scientific statements are accurate

and lives have been transformed."

Confidence in Scripture begins with the work of the Spirit.

I believe the Bible was written by the God of the universe to reveal Himself to humanity.

I believe the Bible is the only authoritative and absolutely reliable revelation from God

with regard to the origin of man, his deliverance, his salvation, the moral and spiritual standards

he is to live by, and his ultimate destiny.

I also believe that the Bible is true in every detail, even to the very words in the original

manuscripts.

God was the author.

And I concluded with this, "The Spirit has led me to this supportable confidence."

Now for me that was a really significant discovery.

And, later in my life, I was exposed to some of the writing of a well-known theologian

named John Calvin.

And being curious about what he believed in regard to this same issue, I began to discover

some very interesting things.

Listen to John Calvin.

"The Scriptures alone exist as the means by which God has been pleased to consign His

truth to perpetual remembrance.

The full authority, which they obtain with the faithful, proceeds from no other consideration

than that they are persuaded that they, the words of Scripture, proceeded from heaven

as if God had been heard giving utterance to them."

This he says in his Institutes .

He further says, "The Scriptures themselves manifest plainly that God is the speaker.

We are never established in the faith of this doctrine until we are indubitably persuaded

that God is the author.

Being illuminated therefore by Him - " that is the Holy Spirit - "we no longer believe

either on our own judgment or that of others that Scripture is from God, but in a way that

surpasses human judgment we are perfectly assured that it has come to us by the ministry

of men from the very mouth of God.

We feel the firmest conviction that we hold an invincible truth, this by the Holy Spirit."

Well Calvin got it right.

We're not surprised, are we?

William Niesel said that Calvin considers the word of the Bible, quote, "As a dead and

ineffectual thing for us if it is not divinely vivified - " given life - "and so soon as

it is separated from Him - " that is, Christ - "it becomes a dead body of letters without

soul."

He understood that you only believe the Scripture when the Spirit of God gifts you with that

faith and confidence.

Confident trust in the Word of God and the Scripture is then not the result of rational

arguments and the work of human intellect and reason or emotion.

It is the work of the Spirit in the heart.

Calvin further says, "For as God alone is a sufficient witness to Himself in His own

Word, so also the Word will never gain credit in the hearts of men until it is sealed by

the internal testimony of the Spirit.

It is necessary, therefore, that the same Spirit who spoke by the mouth of the prophets

penetrate into our hearts in order that He might persuade us that they faithfully delivered

what had been divinely entrusted to them."

So he says, "Let it remain then a fixed truth that those whom the Spirit inwardly teaches

firmly acquiesce to the Scripture."

Our confidence in the Word of God comes from the Spirit of God.

It is a component of the sovereign gift of regeneration.

Traditional approaches have been to try to prove the Bible to unregenerate people by

amassing all kinds of evidences that they can process through their fallen intellects

in the futility of their mental function and the ignorance that is in them and the darkness

of their mind and the hardness of their heart and the callousness and sensuality of their

soul.

We can amass all the prophetic evidences, scientific evidence, miraculous evidence,

historical archeological evidence, the evidences of transformed lives.

And in the end, while certainly all of those are reasonable and a true representation of

Scripture, they cannot take the scales off the blind eyes; they cannot give life to the

dead soul.

The Scripture tells us how this works in one of the great texts in the Scripture.

Open your Bible to 1 Corinthians chapter 1.

There is too much here for me to say in one message.

And since I'm not going to be here to say it in two, I'm going to give you the condensed

version of this.

I do well to cover a verse, let alone two chapters or parts of two chapters.

But I do want you to look, beginning in chapter 1, at verse 18 and running through chapter

2.

And we'll touch lightly on these truths while maintaining the flow of thought and the main

point.

The theme of the section starting in chapter 1 and verse 18 and running to the end of chapter

2 is divine wisdom, divine wisdom.

The word "wise" or "wisdom" appears 20 times or so here, contrasted with "foolishness,"

which appears about a half a dozen times.

This is about divine wisdom.

And the whole section explains why people reject the wisdom of God and why other people

accept the wisdom of God; why people reject the Scripture, the gospel, the cross and other

people accept the Scripture, the gospel and the cross.

In fact, there are some phrases here, "the wisdom of God," "the word of the cross," and

even "the testimony of God."

But whether you're talking about the wisdom of God, the word of the cross, or the testimony

of God, you're talking about the divine revelation which is inscripturated.

This is the theme.

Now the simple way to break this up is to break it up into two sections which overlap

and recycle and restate things.

But, nonetheless, two sections are somewhat discernable.

Section number one, why non-Christians reject the Bible.

Section number two, why Christians accept the Bible.

Why non-Christians reject the Bible and why Christians accept the Bible.

And I will tell you at the outset, nothing is said about evidences, nothing is said about

human reason, nothing is said about how to manipulate people's will or how to move their

emotions.

This is not about evidences.

This is not about reason.

This is not about emotion.

This is about condition.

This is about the condition of a non-Christian and the condition of a Christian.

Let's look, first of all, at why non-Christians do not believe the Bible.

And I'll give you five reasons, which are laid out for us in the opening section.

First of all, the message is unreasonable.

That's the first cause for them to disbelieve.

It is unreasonable.

Verse 18, "The Word of the cross - " or the testimony of God, or the Word of God's wisdom.

That is to say the revelation of God inscripturated - "is to those who are perishing - " that

is their condition - "foolishness."

It is foolishness."

In a somewhat sarcastic way, that idea is repeated in verse 21, "God was well pleased

through the foolishness of the message."

Verse 23 says to the Gentiles, "It is foolishness."

And then in another sarcastic way in verse 25, "The foolishness of God is actually wiser

than men."

And so, clearly, there is this idea that the revelation of God in Scripture is foolish.

It is...the word is moron, moronic, stupid, pointless, unsuitable to human reason.

They treat the Word of God with contempt and disdain.

And I won't go into all the details about that, but a crucified God was ridiculous to

the Gentiles and, equally, if not more ridiculous to the Jews.

Salvation by faith in a crucified God was even more ridiculous.

The whole thing was frankly unreasonable.

Secondly, non-Christians do not believe the Bible not only because the message is unreasonable

but because the reality is unattainable.

You heard a couple of times in the baptisms tonight the people say, "I knew that Jesus

died, but I couldn't connect why or how that had anything to do with my life."

Or you heard someone say, "I grew up in the church and had all these disconnected stories

in my mind, and I wasn't sure how it all came together."

And that's essentially the idea here.

It just doesn't make sense to those who are perishing.

Verse 19, "It is written, 'I will destroy the wisdom of the mind and the cleverness

of the clever I will set aside.

Where is the wise man?

Where is the scribe?

Where is the debater of this age?

Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

For since in the wisdom of God - " that is to say God made it this way - "the world through

its wisdom did not come to know God."

In the fall, God cast the human race into a condition in which it is impossible by means

of human wisdom to come to know God.

You can't get there on your own.

And God designed it that way.

"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise - " He says - "I will destroy the cleverness of the

clever.

I will turn the wisdom of this world in the direction of folly.

I will because it pleases Me cause that no man, no matter how worldly wise, can through

that worldly wisdom come to know Me."

In verse 19 he's quoting from Isaiah 29:14, from the Septuagint, the Greek edition of

that.

Isaiah had said at that time, Isaiah 29, that when Sennacherib was threatening Judah, threatening

to attack and pillage and plunder Judah, Isaiah said, "Deliverance will come from God, but

it will not come by the wisdom of the leaders, it will not come by the wisdom of the sages,

their cunning secretive treachery that was being laid against Judah would perish not

by human ingenuity but because of the power of God."

God would step in and deliver His people.

The wisdom of the wise couldn't save them.

The cleverness of the clever couldn't do it.

Only God could do it.

And as if to say, "So where is the wise man when you need him?

Where is the scribe?

Where is the debater of this age?

Line them all up, line the...the literate, the elite, the intellectuals, the philosophers."

And by the way, verse 20 alludes both to Isaiah 19:12, and Isaiah 33:18 and the supposed wise

counselors of Egypt who were turned into absolute fools in the 19th chapter of Isaiah.

And then the scribes of the Assyrians, who were all ready to record the record of the

spoils they were going to get when they came in, and all of a sudden they all looked like

fools because God intervened.

Where are the disputers, the debaters, the suzetetes...they're the philosophy debaters?

Line them all up.

And it pleases God by means of all their intellects and all their wisdom and all their erudition,

they cannot come to know Him.

In the wisdom of God, God made it impossible for men and women to come to know Him on their

own.

You cannot get there from here unaided.

You cannot get to a confidence in the Word of God, belief in the message or word of the

cross, the word of divine testimony.

So, people don't believe because it is foolish, unreasonable, because it is unattainable.

Thirdly, because it is frankly unbelievable, or I guess you could say ridiculous.

Verse 22, "They - " the Jews - "seek for signs.

The Greeks for wisdom."

The Jews were looking for signs.

You say, "Wait a minute.

Jesus gave them signs and signs and signs and signs."

Yeah, but they wanted the big sign.

Knock off the Romans, set up the Kingdom, reign in fulfillment of the Abrahamic and

Davidic Covenant.

And when He started talking about His death, He went to the cross, it was over.

Crucifixion came to the Lord Jesus because He condemned their hypocritical religion,

because He didn't display His power against the Romans and fulfill their own messianic

scheme.

And then even on the cross they said, "Why don't You come down off the cross?"

Maybe there was a last hope that He would do the sign that they were looking for.

But the crucifixion of God?

The crucifixion of the Messiah by the Romans?

Unthinkable.

On the other hand, the Greeks, they sought wisdom.

And what does that mean?

They sought intricate, complicated, profound, complex philosophies with fancy words and

esoteric concepts.

And they laughed at the simplicity of the gospel and the unbelievable idea that a crucified

God was to be worshiped.

That's why there is to this day a stone in Rome that shows a man bowing down to a jackass.

And it's a reflection of an ancient view of Christianity and it says, Alexamenos worships

his god."

And the interesting thing about it is, jackass is on a cross.

Who would worship a jackass on a cross?

It is frankly unbelievable.

Number four, its people are unremarkable.

Its people are unremarkable.

The Jews wanted a sign; the Greeks wanted wisdom.

Paul preached Christ crucified.

The Jews stumbled over it.

The Gentiles said it was foolish.

Verse 26 doesn't help.

"Consider your calling, brethren, there were not many wise, according to the flesh, not

many mighty, not many noble."

Bottom line here is we're not too impressive.

They weren't then and we aren't now.

The majority of believers have always been unremarkable.

They have always been unimpressive to the world, especially to the world of elite minds

who...who treat us with contempt.

We're not the smartest and we're not the noblest.

In fact, verse 27, "God has chosen the foolish to shame the wise.

He has chosen the weak to shame the strong.

He has chosen the base and the despised and He has chosen the things that are not."

It just keeps getting lower and lower and lower.

He chose not the wise.

He chose not the noble.

Not wise, not the intellectual elite, not the mighty, not the great, the influential,

the movers, the shakers, the powerful, not the noble.

It's actually a Greek word that means wellborn, highborn, socially ranked.

"But He's chosen foolish, weak, base, agenēs , the no births, the nobodies, the no-names,

the John Does, the insignificant, and the despised."

And then it goes down even lower than that.

"The things that are not - " the present participle of eimi , the non-existent ones He's chosen.

That, by the way, that last statement that Paul uses, the things that are not, in verse

28, is the most contemptible expression in the Greek language to demean another person,

to treat them as if they did not even exist.

So, they don't believe.

And the fact that we are such an unremarkable lot adds to their resistance.

And then a fifth.

Not only are the people of this book unremarkable, but the preachers are unfashionable.

And I could have thought of a lot of words for that.

Unfashionable.

Come in to chapter 2, "When I came to you, brethren, I didn't come with superiority of

speech or of wisdom."

And that was a problem because they loved this esoteric kind of fancy, complicated,

mazelike teaching that brought in all kinds of complexity and profundity and titillated

their minds.

"I didn't come with superiority of speech, no tricks of wisdom.

I'm determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified."

There again is this repulsive, unbelievable, simplistic message.

Furthermore, he didn't help his cause any by his own persona.

You remember the Corinthians said about him his person was frankly contemptible.

And his speech was unimpressive.

He was with you in weakness, fear, much trembling.

My message, my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom but in demonstration of the

Spirit and power.

So you have a pretty...a pretty comprehensive look at why people don't believe.

You start with the fact that they can't, that they don't have the capability, that they

are void of the life of God.

They can't escape the natural.

They can't escape being in the flesh.

And one who is in the flesh minds only the things of the flesh.

And he cannot know the things of the Spirit, they are unknowable to him.

And you add the fact that all of these give reason to reject, and you understand something

of the dilemma of the unregenerate.

The message itself was offensive, unreasonable, unbelievable, incomprehensible.

The people were the lowly, and the preachers were the weak and the unimpressive and the

fearful and the trembling.

And you add the fallen condition, natural darkness, satanic blinding and divine judgment.

And non-believers cannot on their own believe the truth.

So the search for God and the search for Christ and the search for the truth, and the search

to discern whether the Bible is really true in what it's saying, cannot begin and end

with human reason.

That's why every time you see one of these deals on television, "The Search for the Real

Jesus," "The Search for the Truth," it always ends up in error.

Fallen mind can't get there on its own.

That's why non-Christians don't believe the Bible.

Now let's ask the second question.

Why do Christians believe the Bible?

In spite of all of this, go to verse 6 in chapter 2.

We'll spend a few minutes on this latter part.

"Yet - " that's a key word there, you ought to circle it or underline it - "Yet in spite

of what the world thinks about this, yet we do speak wisdom among those who are teleios

; teleiois - " actually, plural.

"Among those who are teleiois - " What is that?

Well, who have been made complete.

It's just a way to describe believers.

We speak wisdom, understood, comprehended, embraced and believed among those who have

been made complete.

We have come to Christ.

"We have come to the one - " Paul says to the Colossians - "in whom are hidden all the

treasures of wisdom and knowledge."

It isn't that we're more intelligent.

It isn't that we have been subjected to greater evidences.

It is that we have been made complete in Him.

Paul says it, "You are complete in Him."

And being made complete or mature in Him, you have been given with that divine work

of regeneration and conversion and transformation, not only confidence in Jesus Christ and confidence

in the true and loving God...living God, but confidence in the Word of God.

And so, verse 6 says, "We do speak wisdom."

Paul saying, "We" in an apostolic plural.

"We do speak wisdom among those who are mature, a wisdom, however, not of this age nor of

the rulers of this age."

This is a wisdom that I've just been telling you is unknown to the best of this world's

minds, the greatest of this world's leaders.

"We speak - " verse 7 - "God's wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom."

How in the world did we get to know it?

Oh, read the rest of the line.

"Which God - " what's that next word?

- "predestined before the ages to our glory."

Why do I understand the Bible?

Because God what?

Predestined me to understand it for my own future glory.

You say, "Oh, do you believe in predestination?

I believe in the Bible and the Bible tells me that the reason I understand the wisdom

of God is because God predestined me to eternal glory, and through regeneration and conversion

gave me faith in His Son, in the gospel and in His Word.

Does that mean that I'm now in a situation where I believe the Bible, even though it's

not reasonable?

Oh no.

Everything in it is reasonable.

Its prophecies are fulfilled.

Its miracles are true and attested to.

It is scientifically flawless and accurate.

Its history and archeology is verifiable down to the smallest detail.

But it's not that that convinces my natural reason.

It is that because God has given me faith in His Word that I now see all that to be

true.

Another way to view it, at this point, might be to look at 1 John chapter 2.

1 John chapter 2, just to give you a little break from the text we're in.

Sometimes people hang around the church for a while, they don't stay.

Verse 19 describes them, "They went out from us," that's pretty true in almost everybody's

religious experience, Christian experience.

"They went out from us."

"Yeah, you know, so-and-so used to come here, sang in the choir, served here and there,

showed up at church.

Don't see them anymore, what happened?"

"Well they went out from us, but they were not really of us, for if they had been of

us they would have remained with us, but they went out in order that it might be shown they

are all not of us."

They went out, they left and it proves they never really belonged to begin with.

"But - " verse 20, love this - "you have an anointing from the Holy One and you all know."

What do you know?

You know what he says in the next verse.

"I've not written to you because you do not know the truth but because you know it and

no lie is of the truth."

That means no lie leads you astray.

No lie leads you into apostasy.

Why?

You know the truth.

Why do you know the truth?

You have an anointing from God.

What is that anointing?

Or better, who is that anointing?

The Holy Spirit.

I believe the Bible because God gave me confidence in the Word of God as a part of my salvation

and regeneration.

I stay with the truth.

I believe the truth.

I embrace the truth.

I continue with the truth.

I stay involved with the truth because the Spirit of God has shown me what the truth

is and I know a lie when I see one.

At the end of that, or near the end of that same chapter, verse 27, "As for you, the anointing

which you received from Him abides in you."

Wow.

This is our security, the ever-present indwelling resident Holy Spirit who is our anchor to

the truth.

He abides in you and you have no need for anyone to teach you.

"But as His anointing teaches you about all things and is true and is not a lie and just

as it has taught you, you abide in Him."

That is just a profound subject to understand.

When you were saved you came to confidence in the Word of God and that's where you stay.

That's where you stay.

And the people who hang around a while and go away, give evidence of the fact that they

never really belonged and they never had the Spirit of God.

I believe the Bible because God gave me the gift of faith in His Son and faith in His

gospel and faith in His Word.

I continue to... that for my justification.

I believe the Bible for my sanctification, because the Spirit of God who abides in me

continues to lead me into truth and away from error.

That's why I believe the Bible.

Now, I understand, as verse 6 says, that this is different than the wisdom of this age,

the wisdom of the rulers of this age, the top minds.

All of that stuff is katargeō .

All of it is being rendered ineffective.

All of it is impotent.

All of it leads nowhere.

All of it is really foolish, really foolish.

But I believe and you believe because God predestined before the ages that we would

believe unto glory.

And we believe a wisdom, verse 8 says, "which none of the rulers of this age has understood,

none of them.

If they had, they wouldn't have crucified the Lord of glory," and they wouldn't continue

to reject the Lord of glory who was crucified.

He sums it up in verse 9 by saying this, a very familiar verse by the way, drawn out

of a couple of passages that are being alluded here and Isaiah.

"Things which eye has not seen, and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the

heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him."

We know all that God has for us.

We know that.

We know it by divine revelation.

It can't be known any other way.

Eye can't see it and ear can't hear it.

And the mind which is in view in the heart can't conceive of it.

God's truth regarding salvation, God's truth regarding spiritual and eternal life is unheard,

unseen, unthought.

It cannot be known by empiricism; it cannot be known by rationalism.

It can only be known by divine revelation.

In John 8 Jesus said this, and He's talking to the recalcitrant Pharisees.

Jesus said to them in verse 42, John 8, "If you...if God were your Father, you would love

Me."

Wow!

"But since God's not your Father, you don't love Me, for I proceeded forth and have come

from God."

I'm not even come on My own initiative, but He has sent Me.

Listen to this, "Why do you not understand what I'm saying?"

Why don't people understand?

"It's because you cannot hear My word because you are of your father, the devil, and you

want to do the desires of your father.

He was a murderer from the beginning, does not stand in the truth because there's no

truth in him.

Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature for he's a liar and the father

of lies, but because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me."

You can't.

And He sums it up in verse 47, well, in verse 46.

"If I speak the truth, why do you not believe Me?"

Why don't people believe the truth?

"He who is of God hears the words of God.

For this reason you do not hear them because you are not of God."

Pretty clear, isn't it?

Who believes the Bible?

Those who are God's.

It is a divine work.

Go back to 1 Corinthians chapter 2 and we'll just wrap it up at verse 10 with a few comments

thrown in.

First Corinthians 2:10.

"For to us - " oh, this is such a great point of summary.

"For to us God revealed them."

Them?

What do you mean?

"The things that God has prepared for those that love Him, the things concerning salvation,

spiritual and eternal life, the Kingdom."

That is to say all of the wisdom of God, all of the word of the cross, all of the word

of God's testimony, all that truth that is inscripturated.

To us, God revealed them through the Spirit.

That is the critical thing to understand.

We believe because God chose, God predestined us to know so that one day we would come to

eternal glory.

In drawing this to some kind of conclusion that will grip your soul, let's just take

that idea that we know because God chose to show us, to reveal to us, to regenerate us,

to give us life, to take the scales of blindness off, to awaken our hearts, to unfold the mystery,

to bring the truth that was hidden out and reveal it to us, take that as the background

and reread starting in verse 24.

"To those who are the called."

Anytime you ever see that term, "the called," or "calling" in the epistles in the New Testament

is the effectual call to salvation.

We are the called, that is called out of darkness into light, called out of death into life.

In verse 26 he says it again, "Consider your calling," the divine call, the vivification,

the life-giving call, regeneration.

And why us?

Verse 27, "God has chosen, God has chosen."

Verse 28, "God has chosen."

Verse 30, "But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus."

Why are you in Christ Jesus?

Because you saw how clearly it should be apprehended and believed because you went through the

evidences, because your mind ascended to it.

You are in Christ Jesus by His doing.

He predestined, He revealed because He chose, and whom He chose He called.

And as Paul says in Romans 8, "Whom He called He justified and whom He justifies He glorifies."

So, back to verse 30, "By His doing you are in Christ Jesus, by His doing you believe,

by His doing you embrace the Word of God in your justification and your sanctification.

By His doing you are in Christ Jesus - " listen - "who became to us wisdom from God."

By His doing that we are in Christ.

And then Christ became to us -- by His presence and His power and His Spirit and His Word

-- wisdom from God and righteousness and sanctification and redemption.

Why did God do it this way?

Why did God do it this way?

Verse 29, "That no man should - " What?

- "boast before God."

Verse 31, "The just as it is written, let him who boasts boast in the Lord."

And so we are stunned by the confidence that we have in the Word of God.

And when somebody says, "Where in the world does it come from?"

You can say it is by His doing because He placed us in Christ and Christ became to us

the wisdom of God.

And it is our love for God through Christ that gives us confidence in His Word, and

we believe the truth because we are of God.

Martin Luther put it this way, "Man is like a pillar of salt, like Lot's wife, yea like

a log, or a stone, like a lifeless statue which uses neither eyes nor mouth, neither

sense nor heart, until he is enlightened, converted and regenerated by the Holy Spirit."

So I didn't invent this.

They were reading the same Bible I'm reading and the same one you're reading.

You believe the Bible, dear one, and you live in the light of its glorious truths, your

life is enraptured by its wonders because God for His own glory was well pleased to

predestine you and to choose you and to justify you and to sanctify you through His Word.

And when He gave you Christ, He gave you, in Christ, His wisdom for in Him are hidden

all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

I cannot separate my love for Christ from my love for the Word.

At the end, skipping down to verse 16, the last statement, "We have the mind of Christ."

What a statement.

What a statement.

In having confidence in the Word of God, we have access to the mind of Christ.

Grab that?

It's no mystery to me how God thinks or what He desires.

All that God wants me to know, He's put here.

I have here the mind of Christ, and I know how Christ thinks and what He wills and what

pleases Him and what He loves and what He hates and what He commands and what He forbids.

I understand it all because He has enabled me to understand it.

And I live my life embracing the wonder of such profound inexplicable grace on my behalf

as this is.

Let's bow in prayer.

Our Father, we know that the power of evangelism for justification is not found in clever methods

or music or culturally crafted entertainment, but in the Bible.

The power for edification, in sanctification is also found in the Bible.

We are to preach the Scripture, the word of the cross, the wisdom of God, the testimony

of God.

We are to present it, proclaim it, defend it, for this is the only hope and the only

means by which you will justify and sanctify Your people.

Always we must use the Scripture, not so that the non-Christian can see the reasonableness

of it but so that You may awaken the heart of Your own by the divine miracle of grace

through the Word.

We thank You, Father, that a life time of strud...of study will prove the Scripture

is reasonable, it is attainable, understandable, believable, stands every test.

And we know that because You have given us life and understanding.

We thank You that You heard the prayer of Psalm 119:18, "Open my eyes that I may see

wondrous things out of Thy Law."

Lord, that prayer has been answered for us and we praise You and the wonders never cease.

Use us, Lord, as instruments in the proclamation of Your truth to awaken sinners and to sanctify

saints.

Thank You for the privilege of being so used in Christ's name.

Amen.

Have you heard about this thing called a Unicorn Latte?

It is out of control as well as the rest of this list today

because before I did any research, I had no idea these things existed, so...

come along on this magical journey with me today.

Ok, so forget about rainbow bagels, or anything rainbow colored.

This Brooklyn-based cafe, it's called "The End" has totally obliterated the rainbow bagel

with their concoction which is called, the Unicorn Latte.

And, as you can see this thing looks like an episode of

My Little Pony and

Lisa Frank kinda just came together and had a magical baby

because that is exactly what this latte looks like

I have no idea how it tastes, but apparently it's supposed to be more on the healthy end for you

but it looks insane.

Apparently the creators of the Unicorn Latte want you to know that it's going to

help you unleash your mystical, inner self

that are now being produced, but

The originator of the crazy over the top milkshake

which is Black Tap Burgers and Beer

also in NYC, they have come out with these pictures

especially on Instagram, where your milkshake is gonna come with

a slice of cake, basically, inside the glass

with cookies around it, waffles, cotton candy

Whatever else they happen to have on hand

just throw it in the milkshake - it's cool.

Dominque Ansel,

you are my hero for elevating hot chocolate

in this crazy, cool way

So, listen up

This is what he does, he takes a marshmallow

That's in the shape of a flower

It's held together by a thin chocolate ring,

He places that bad boy into the hot chocolate

which is just next level genius

why the heck did I not think of it?

Oh! I know, cuz I'm not world renowned, famous

Columbia Lake Village South - Residence Tour - Duration: 2:18.

Hi my name is Jamie, I'm a first-year student here at Columbia Lake Village South.

I'm in Arts and Business.

And, Columbia Lake Village South is a 4 bedroom townhouse style residence, filled with upper-year students,

first-year students, as well as graduate students, and its what makes it a very diverse community.

The community centre is a great place for students to come and hang out, to study, or

to just play a friendly game of ping pong.

During the colder months, a free shuttle bus takes CLV residents straight to campus.

The front desk is open from 8am to 12am midnight, 7 days a week.

And the friendly front desk assistant is always here to help.

If you have any questions or concerns, or questions about maintenance, printing services,

or you want to rent out a board game or movies, you can always come to the front desk and

they will always be happy to help.

The laundry room is also located here at the community centre.

It takes WatCard flex dollars as a payment, and also there is lots of washers and dryers

so I never have to wait my turn to do my laundry.

This is my 4-bedroom townhouse and I share it with 3 other roommates.

We each have our own bedroom, and also a shared common area, kitchen, as well as the bathroom,

and furniture and the utilities are all included in the residence fee.

This is our kitchen, it comes fully equipped with a stove, a full-sized fridge, as well

as lots of cabinet space.

I also use the weekly grocery shuttle to get my groceries.

And there is also an optional meal plan that I can get, for days that I don't feel like

cooking.

The living-room is a comfortable space to relax and it also comes with a small patio

area.

Each townhouse has a lot of storage if you need it.

The storage closet also comes with a mop, a broom, as well as a vacuum.

This is my room.

It comes with a comfortable twin bed, a closet, a dresser, and as well as a desk, and a huge

window for lots of natural light.

Every townhouse has a full bathroom upstairs.

And that's all of Columbia Lake Village South, I love living at CLV because of my don Christina,

the open space, as well as rez council.

Important Things To Know Before You Start Graduate School - Duration: 1:58.

Hi, I'm David Berkowitz on the Dean of

the Graduate School and Director of

international services here at UAH and I

want to take these few minutes to talk to

you about graduate school at UAH and

graduate school in general. We polled our

students and ask them about the three

most important things to know before

they got to graduate school. The first

thing is about time and commitment.

Specifically when we talk about

commitment you have to be dedicated to

your work and you have to be dedicated

to your research. You have to put in

efforts that go above and beyond the

undergraduate landscape in order to be

successful. In many cases you need to do

work outside of the class so you need to

be cognizant of your time management as well.

Graduate school is an individual journey

it's a journey that you take on your own

and you must advocate for yourself

It means that you have to spend time

thinking about your graduate education

what you'd like to do and how you'd like

to achieve that. In many cases students

come in with a variety of different

backgrounds and so there's not one set

schedule that they need to follow you

need to be your own advocate, spend time

with your advisor and make sure that you

map out the appropriate plan for you to

succeed in graduate school. Remember if

you're thinking about a master's degree

most of our master's degrees are

designed to be finished in about two

years. If you're thinking about a PhD it

could be anywhere from four to six years

Most students who produce a thesis are

looking to focus on research and

ultimately pursue a PhD so that they can

do additional research at that level

Those that are doing a non-thesis track

are looking to gain practical knowledge

to advance their careers. The great thing

about graduate school is that everybody

wants to be here. You have dreams just as

your colleagues will have dreams, so when

you meet fellow graduate students

they're excited to be here just as

you're excited to be here
