PATH TO EXCELLENCE: Quality You Can Trust - Duration: 1:14.

BIOTRONIK'S mission is to provide innovative

cardiac solutions to help improve and save lives.

This industry has been hit the last several years

by some major recalls that have eroded trust with both the physicians

as well as the patients.

Working for a company that never had a lead

recall and that delivers the highest quality and most

reliable products in this industry makes me extremely

proud of what we do every day.

In our industry, the word quality is highly commoditized.

We believe that if you control components, you control quality.

We are the most vertically integrated company in this

industry. All the critical components that go into our devices

are manufactured and produced by

BIOTRONIK-owned companies.

Recent market research has shown that quality

is at top of mind when physicians think about BIOTRONIK.

Physicians know that if they implant a BIOTRONIK

product, it's a trusted product that they can

implant with great confidence.

It's Time to Stop Losing Your Fridays! - Duration: 1:38.

Good morning folks, my name is Lou Mosca, and I'm the Chief Operating Officer of American

Management Services, based here in Orlando, Florida.

And folks that work with me, and for me, know that one of my favorite phrases, or pet-peeves

as I like to call it, is when something doesn't go the way I want, I will say something like

"My head is going to explode," and people start to regurgitate that back at me, which

is kind of funny.

But, one of my pet-peeves, and one of the things that makes my head explode is people

getting lazy.

I don't like lazy.

I don't like lack of energy.

I like dramatic, I like pushing the envelope, so on Friday afternoon's when most businesses

are winding down, 2, 3, 4 o'clock, and most people are playing on their Facebook, or determining

where they're going to restaurants, or whatever, we're pushing people to be more productive.

We're pushing people to get set up for next week.

So, I want you to think about your organization.

Your company.

Does Friday afternoon not count in your world?

Is Friday not 20% of the workweek?

So, if Friday afternoon counts, that's 10% of the workweek, are you sacrificing it for

the ease of comfortableness.

So, I don't want comfortable, I want greatness, I want money, and I want success.

I want every one of my people in my organization, and every one of the clients we touch to remember

that Friday, right up until when that bell rings, whatever time it is, 5 o'clock, 6 o'clock,

7 o'clock.

Everybody needs to be running at full gate.

Everybody needs to be pushing that envelop.

Are you?

Have a good weekend.

A Beginners Guide to Property Investing with Brendan Kelly - Duration: 12:11.

Hi, my name is Brendan Kelly in this conversation we continue our journey towards effective

goal-setting and we do so by working backwards.

Working backwards

helps us to understand what are the goals we are setting for ourselves are realistic

or not.

You see the future is always more difficult to see in the past and it's the same for setting

goals that a realistic.

when coming up with the goals that we want to achieve if we take a moment to position

ourselves at the completion of this guy and we look backwards from that position and what

it took for us to get there that will help us to understand the path we need to follow

to achieve that outcome.

in looking at our goals from this perspective we then get to see fairly clearly whether

what were trying to achieve is realistic or just simply a pipe dream so in returning to

our conversation with Mary you get to see the power of beginning with the end in mind

Let's say we have a goal we now in December 16, this is a January sorry this is a 2017

goal.

In 2017 we want in our banks, now we start to figure out this is my invitation to you

turn the page we're talking about calendars now.

yeah. think about the strategic approach you want to take on.

Is it a development, is it a reno, is it a sub-division, it doesn't matter what it is.

It could be a buy and hold.

Doesn't matter what it is.

But I encourage you think about what it is and the numbers that's associated with it.

The strategic approach you need for that in order to secure the profit you want in the

time frame that you want it.

Let's see if I can explain that with Mary.

December 2017 yeah.

You have in your bank account now, $90000 more dollars.

woohoo.

We can have a bowl of Moet and enjoy it, let's say yeah.

That's in your bank account.

What did it take to get that in your bank account.

In terms of time or?

Well how does it appear in your bank account.

As profit.

Cash great.

What from.

From selling the property.

At the time of contract of sell or when?

At settlement.

Settlement.

This had to settle didn't it.

So December 17 it has to settle.

yeah. you want a 30 day settlement yes.

so in November, November what had to happen.

Sell it.

Sell it.

You needed a contract of sell in November.

Alright sell.

Yes.

Cool.

In order to have the sell occur, we need to have done what? market it listed it yeah.

and how long would you say we need to sell it let's say.

4 weeks?

If the market is pretty warm 4 weeks is pretty reasonable.

Let's run with 4 weeks because we really short on time yeah.

Right we're in October now and it is finished.

Does that make sense.

yeah we've finished it.

that's finished everything.

We would need titles by here, we won't need titles here.

But we need to have this in a condition and people go I love it.

yeah.

In October alright great.

How long does it take to do a cosmetic reno?

3 Month 6 weeks.

well if you're good at it 6 weeks 4 weeks do it in 2.

6 weeks, allowing a little bit of latitude and a little bit of experimentation.

I think I know what I'm doing I don't really.

Let's go into I want to do it in 3 month thing.

What are we in October now.

Working backwards, who knows there calendar backwards.

July.

Yeah so we start reno here.

Yeah start reno. that's the latest we can start.

we can do it anytime before then but that's the latest we can start.

Let's look at the other components.

Subdivision.

What's the major issue with subdivision.

Titles.

We need titles.

2 weeks before settlement.

yes.

You must have titles 2 weeks before settlement.

which is mid December.

yes.

How long does it take on average most councils 1 into 2 for a subdivision from start to finish.

4 month, 7 month if we allow 9 month would that be sufficient.

You okay with that.

we allow 9 month.

So from mid December we need to be in mid March to start the process of subdivision.

does that make sense.

Ahhh, well that's a restriction., How long does it take to build.

4 month?

8 month 10.

12. for one house 16 weeks plus contingencies.

Alright 6 month to build, we comfortable with 6 month build.

yep. so it needs to be finished by 6 month before October is when.

Marchish.

Yeah.

March is looking at a pretty powerful day.

So what has to happen then in March.

If we've got to start these things in March.

Take to get to get building plans in and done building plans.

Yeah 12 Month.

So what we down to where.

December again.

We back to December 2016?

Yes.

Do you realise that you're already late.

Yes. which was my point we're now mapping this in time. and if we want that outcome

and we want it by then.

knowing the strategic approach knowing what it takes to do the deal through, we map it

out in a yeah and we go oh we're already late.

yes?

fascinating isn't it.

So in order to have mine at here then we figured out that we really need to be buying this

thing sorry we really need to be submitting plans and permits in December this year yes?

That's 12 month.

If we've got to find the property, that's what another 2 month.

yes.

know the area, that's another month.

really this is a 15 month project starting from today.

Yeah, do we all know what we need to be doing.

Yes hands up who's getting a sense of urgency on what they need to be doing tomorrow.

Yes.Hands up those who has an impression that they're already late.

Yes.

Perfect.

Because that's the job, my role, my role tonight is to have you see what you want in 2017.

And what you need to do to begin it.

So you actually walk out of here and go you know what, there's a sense of urgency about

this.

Because without that sense of urgency, there's a sense of not urgent.

Yeah.

So how might this process work for you how might you be able to determine if the goals

you're setting are realistic or not and how might you determine what you need to be doing

tomorrow in order to achieve the goals you want 12 months from now.

Well broadly speaking there's a process and it's got to do the fairly comprehensive understanding

of the property investing strategy you want to take on.

The general approach for effectively working backwards follows this sort of path having

determined the strategy that you want to take on it requires you actually learning in detail

about the strategy that you're looking to adopt that means knowing all the numbers in

the deal from beginning to end and knowing the timing about the functions that that strategy

requires you to perform for example in a renovation you would need to spend some time knowing

the numbers in the deal you need to spend some time knowing whether your finances are

going to work for that deal or not and what you need to buy your property for you need

to spend some time searching areas spend some time negotiating and then purchase it maybe

sometime associated with the settlement period.

And then there'll be time doing the renovation having completed the renovation that the time

required for you to sell the property having sold there will be time required for settlement

for purchaser who bought it from you so you need to consider than in doing a renovation

project the time from today through the time to completion and the settlement of the property

that you've sold and then the banking of the profit.

Now if you're thinking of making $50,000 a profit from a renovation and you're thinking

that 3 months is enough time then you might find by working backwards that's actually

impractical to achieve if you have a $50,000 profit that you're after out of a renovation

and you wanted that in 24 months time you might find that's too far down the track and

there's not a lot required of you today in order to deliver on that so knowing how the

strategy works helps you determine a realistic goal and this is what we saw with Mary if

you approach your goal setting in the same way that we approached Mary's goal setting

you work from the profit that you're after first just a matter then of assessing the

finances that you have available to you and the price of a property you're looking to

purchase to determine if your profit expectations are realistic.

if for example you are after $100,000 profit and in order to get that $100,000 profit you

need a million dollar property but you can only afford to buy one for 400,000 and you

know that your goal is unrealistic if on the other hand you after a $20,000 profit and

in order to achieve that you need a $300,000 property and you can afford to purchase a

$600,000 property then you know that you can easily achieve that target and you may as

well go for a little bit more but knowing the numbers in your strategic approach is

critical to determine this outcome and it's exactly the same when you're attempting to

assess the time that you set for you to achieve your goal as with Mary by working backwards

from the date you've set yourself to achieve your goal you can determine with some clarity

what you need to be doing tomorrow in order to achieve it.

Remember you can have anything you want but you must be persistent about getting it until

we meet again invest wisely.

When There's No Rulebook - Biomedical Engineer - Duration: 2:21.

I always wanted to be an engineer as a kid.

I was always tinkering with radios, always taking things apart

never able to get them back together again.

What I didn't have in high school was a lot of confidence.

I think I always was geared for what I was doing today.

But having the confidence to get me to that point

took a lot more than what I had at the time.

I'm an engineer and postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for Brain Health. I have been here for about three years.

My job here is to develop instrumentation to scan

single cells in brains.

So one of the things I do is develop a technology called

two-photon laser scanning microscopes.

The things that we develop, there is nothing like it in the world.

I'm not only just an engineer, I work as a biologist, a scientist

so I do a lot of different things.

One of the end goals of our lab in general is to develop cures for autism.

You have a lot of toys, but you know ultimately the goal

of that technology is to help people.

My favourite aspect is the design.

I love designing the instrumentation, it's my passion,

it has been my passion for over a decade now.

It's very much like art.

It doesn't always work out the first time, actually almost alway

doesn't work out the first time.

You go through several iterations of design

No one has really done this before

so there is no rule book to tell you what to do.

But it's a lot of fun, I love it, it's my hobby and my passion.

It's amazing in the work that I do to see the brain grow

right in front of your eyes and how it's responding

to the outside world.

And it's amazing to think in my child that that's happening in real time.

So you can actually see throughout her day to day development

the new aspects and the new challenges that she is faced with

and how she is overcoming that, especially in things like speech,

just simple things like standing and walking.

I found my passion and it has taken me a while to get here,

but I know this is where I want to be.

Sailing Lanzarote - Duration: 8:56.

Today 14 Feb 2017 finally

we leave the harbour of Las Palmas.

We leave Gran Canaria, I can't believe it

because we have been here for

one year stucked in the boat.

And the first island is Lanzarote.

It's 1830 pm and we are leaving.

It's very emotional because the people

came to say goodbye and when

we are back we might not see this

friends anymore. But the world is big

and they are also sailors so we will meet

them again somewhere in the world.

The navigation program we use is iSailor

and there you can plan the route you

want to do. In our case, we leave from

Las Palmas to Marina Rubicón in Lanzarote.

So, this blue arrow is us in movement

and you can see all the route you

have to do until Lanzarote.

This is Fuerteventura.

And Marina Rubicón is here.

-(Oliver): no, that's Puerto Calero

I'm wrong. This is Puerto Calero.

-(Oliver): Marina Rubicón is in the south

Yes, right.

This compass indicates 66.1º

that does not stop oscillating,

is our direction, the course.

And, the 5.1 that just changed to 5.2

are knots, our speed.

It's fine, we do five knots so

we estimate 20 hours.

-(Oliver): It's 100 miles, divided by 5 knots

that are like 5 miles per hour.

make a total of 20 hours of sailing.

Morning, it's 0830am and I just woke up.

It was a strange night,

I slept but in tension,

thinking that a whale would appear

or something was going wrong on the boat

and it was not very comfortable.

I did my first three watches.

Here we see the route, as I said yesterday

we are the blue arrow,

and now we see the coast of Fuerteventura,

in front Lanzarote and in the middle water

So, will there be approximately

10 hours left?

-(Oliver): It says there.

Well, the ETA is at 1400 pm

so there are 6 hours and 25 m left.

I'm waiting to see dolphins

I have not seen any yet.

I do not know where they are.

But last night I saw plankton,

and it lit up in the dark,

it's what whales eat and looked like

little fireworks in the water.

It was very nice.

We are entering Marina Rubicón,

we have called by VHF 09

and we have the place but first

we will go the reception dock

because we will get fuel.

After 20 hours of sailing,

we arrive to Marina Rubicón. It's a private marina

located in the south of Lanzarote.

It's a beautiful marina, has everything

you imagine and more than you can

need when you arrive.

Beaches, restaurants, shopping...

And well. tomorrow at 0700 am we move

to La Graciosa and I think it

takes aprox 9 hours.

Good morning, it's 1000 am

(Oli): You're losing the course. No, to the other side

Come back, wait. I came back, I lost my course

-(Oliver): Okay, there.

It's 1000 am, we're leaving Marina Rubicón

to go to Puerto Calero,

another marina in Lanzarote.

We are doing 5 knots, we aren't

using the engine like the other trip

were we used it all the time.

We only have Genoa and

-(Oliver): No, no, not to the other side.

Look at the cape, don't look at the compass, look at the cape, you want to go there.

I have to go to that end of there because

Puerto Calero is on the other side.

It's 10 miles so it will take approx

two and a half hours. Well, when I get there I'll report it.

The wind is stern and we go only with the Genoa.

The captain says that it is a very difficult

course because we have a lot of stern

wind and the sail goes from one side to another.

But I have here the compass that tells me

where I have to go

-(Oliver): there, there. To starboard.

Now we go to starboard, it's there.

-(Oliver): Okay, correct, correct, correct. Straight, that's the way

Yes I know. I'm back in my right place.

-(Oliver): Okay, you're going back to port. Correct a little.

To the other side, there. Keep it there, like this. Good. Very good.

Hello, how are you? Today we move

from Lanzarote. We set sail to Fuerteventura

and try to get a berth in Corralejo,

it takes six hours and

if there is no berth, which could be posible,

we will go to Gran Tarajal

that takes eight hours from Corralejo.

So, it's probably that we stay all day sailing.

[narrator] How far would you walk for water?

In rural Kenya, water doesn't always come from a faucet,

and it is not always accessible in homes

or even in communities.

Girls and women spend much of each day

walking long distances to streams and rivers

to collect the water their families drink,

cook with, and use to wash.

This daily necessity prevents girls from attending school,

and the water they collect isn't safe for consumption.

We call their journey a water walk.

A group of North American youth travel to Kenya

to learn first-hand what it would be like

to be reliant on walking for water.

Led by a mama from the community,

they accompanied her on a walk she may do

up to five times a day.

[girl 1] Basically, they met us at our camp site

and we had to walk down to the river

where they collect their water,

and walk it back to their houses where they live.

We had to strap scarves around our heads

and carry it on our back.

And that was really heavy as well,

but we got to share it between the load

of three or four five different people.

And the mamas were doing it by themselves.

And we walked it back up another 45 minutes

back to their houses.

It's so incredible that they have to do this task

three to five times a day

just to get enough water for their family for that day.

Girls can't go to school

because they're walking to get water

most of the day.

So, back home you never hear about someone

not being able to go to school

because they have to get water.

[narrator] Reducing the distance to clean water

by just 15 minutes

can increase girls' school attendance

by up to 12 percent.

In 12 percent of households,

children carry the main responsibility

for collecting water,

with girls under 15 years of age

being twice as likely to carry this responsibility

as boys under the age of 15 years.

It was an incredible opportunity for us

to see what the local community

has to do every single day

just to get something as basic as water.

And it's not even that clean.

[narrator] More than 1000 children die every day

due to preventable water

and sanitation-related diarrheal diseases.

Eighty percent of illnesses in the developing world

are linked to poor water and sanitation.

But the story is changing.

Through a partnership

with WE Charity's sustainable development model,

WE Villages,

communities are gaining access to clean water

from sources located in their community.

WE Villages performs a geological assessment

of each community WE works with

to see what is the best solution for that region.

[speaking over loud noises] The excitement

is incredibly high

as the community is gathered.

They're on the verge of striking water

here at the aquifer.

They're drilling 200 metres deep

in order to bring in a supply of clean drinking water

to this community in the south Mara region of Kenya.

So many communities like this one

have benefited

from Free the Children's catchment programs,

and well programs

thanks to your support.

It ensures a source of clean water,

not only for the health and well-being of the family,

but also to ensure

that girls don't have to walk a far distance

in order to go to school.

As you can see, as they strike the reservoir--

Whoo!

[loudly] As you can see,

they have struck the reservoir!

Thank you for your amazing support!

[narrator] Many kilometres of piping is laid

to direct water by generators

to pumps that are typically located near or on the grounds

of the community elementary school

to ensure the school has access to clear water,

and it can be easily accessed by the community.

[narrator] The WE Villages partnership

includes commitment from community members

to help raise funds and maintain the well and pump.

Through a water committee that is formed of community members,

WE Villages provides education and training

for maintaining the facilities

and monitoring water usage,

as well as general education on clean water and sanitation

and water-born disease prevention.

In addition to bringing a clean water source

into the community,

WE Villages works with communities

to use water catchment systems for agriculture,

and build latrines

and hand-washing facilities in schools.

I've never considered who owns water.

I never really thought of it as something that someone owned.

[narrator] According to the World Health Organization,

every one dollar invested in water and sanitation

shows and economic return of between three and 34 dollars.

With improved water,

you see sustainable agriculture

and reduced hunger,

children returning to school instead of collecting water,

and fewer illnesses

so children miss less school,

and adults can farm or manage their businesses.

With clean and safe toilet facilities,

girls can stay in school past puberty.

I look at water access

in a whole new perspective.

It really shows just how privileged we are

that we can just get water.

I can't stress it enough,

how easy it is just for us to get water.

And I don't think anyone can truly put that into perspective

unless you're actually here,

seeing first-hand these families struggle

for what we already have.

[narrator] The story is changing,

but there's still a lot to be done.
