Hi guys I'm Jenn Johns welcome back to the
channel. Today i'm going to be making an
Easter cake and this time it is a
panoramic sugar egg cake. That's right
this giant egg up on top is made
entirely out of sugar and there's an
adorable Easter scene inside. It's super
easy to make. If you haven't heard I've
also started a second channel and that's
where I'm going to be going live and I
show you some cake decorating and baking
tips there as well. Link is in the
description box to that. To make the base
of the cake we're going to be using a
ten inch round cake. You're going to
layer it cover it in buttercream and
you're going to get a 10 inch round
buttercream covered cake. We're going to
take shards of thin white chocolate and
we're going to press them into the side
of the cake right into that buttercream
there and then I'm going to take some
melted of pink candy melts and I'm using
a silicone basically just a silicone
pastry brush not very much pink you
don't need on there i want the
definition from the bristles of it to
kind of act as basically tree bark if
you say and we've got a lovely beautiful
pink tree that we're going to build here
for the base of our egg cake so i'm just
going to go all the way around
Now because our sugar egg is going to be so
heavy we need to support our cake so
i've got three dowels already in the
cake and I'm putting my fourth in as
well it's going to help it along here
with another piece of a dowling and then
what I also need to do is create
basically the anchor point for the egg
so it stays in the cake and attached to
the cake so I want to have about an inch
and a half stuck up over the top which
will pop the egg on to and I'm taking a
small mini little cake board here and I
just want to press it through down into
the cake there and that's going to help
distribute the weight of the egg then
you can take some buttercream and then
cover that up and nobody will even know
it's there if you need more information
and full details on how to decorate the
cake how to make the cake all those
recipes everything's in the description
box for you there.
Now we're working on our
sugar egg here in the bowl I have four
and a half cups of fine sugar which is
also called Barry sugar here in Canada
and I've mixed it with a little bit of
pink water and you want to add as much
water as you can until you're able to
hold the shape just like playing with
sand like the kind of sand you want for
a sand castle is what we want with this
sugar so I'm going to put some of the
sugar into my large egg mold you could
do this with any size of an egg mold now
i'm going to press down and you want to
make sure that you're pressing nice and
hard so that all the cracks are
eliminated within your mold so I've got
one finished I'm just going to switch to
that one and what you're going to do is
taste a piece like I'm like a nice flat
surface here and something that can go
in the oven so I've just actually got
the bottom of a springform pan and I'm
going to flip it upside down throw one
hand on the top of one on the bottom
flip that over like this now you want to
be quite careful at this point and what
we're going to do is just gently take
off the lid if you get crashed at this
point just start all over you totally
fine we're going to pop this into the
oven on a warm temperature only with the
door slightly propped open and you want
to heat it for about three hours until a
hard crust forms on the outside and
we're able to pick it up once the eggs
have hardened enough that you can pick
them up you're going to scoop out the
inside which is still going to be
relatively basically soft now you just
want to go really carefully because the
egg still is fragile at this point now
you're going to keep scraping until
you've left yourself about a three
quarters of an inch border all around
the outside so you're going to do that
completely on one half of your egg now
the other half of the egg what you're
going to be doing with that one is
you're going to have to cut out the
inside like we just did and you're also
going to have to cut out a little window
for like the peek hole where we're going
to be looking in so I'm just using a
sharp tool here i'm just going to score
where I want
to my basically my window to be in
existence so I'm trying to make it
mostly like an oval and I just found
that if i did like a little kind of T
shape here i'm able to draw and cut out
an oval so i'm just going around here
like this and then once i get my oval
completely drawn i would start to take a
knife here and just kind of start to
scrape it away just carefully it's
really hard because this is the shell
unlike what we were doing with the other
side the other side is really soft this
side is a little bit harder if you want
to make sure that you just go really
slowly and carefully so that you don't
have the egg crack on you so I'm just
going to keep carving away well if you
have the egg parts carved out you're
going to have to let them dry completely
so you can do that again in the oven for
a couple more hours or you can just let
them air dry and will take longer but it
will still achieve the same hardness you
want to make sure they're like almost
like solid like a rock they're super
hard don't forget before they're super
hard to carve out the little notches
that are in the end and that knot is
what's going to slide into the dowel
where we got the dowel on the cake so
now what we're going to put inside is
basically whatever kind of Easter scene
you want to create and I'm going to do
that with royal icing so I have some
white royal icing here and I'm just
going to pipe like basically like a
little cloud seen in the sky up here so
I'm going to start at the top with some
little like little balls here for the
clouds then using a grass tip I'm going
to pipe some grass the bottom and you
just want to make sure that you cover
the whole bottom and you're also going
to have to do the basically the front of
the other side of the egg because we're
going to have some stuff in the
foreground as well because you will see
what's inside this egg as well so I'm
just putting the royal icing down so
I've got a nice little layer here and
then just fill it up with whatever
candies you want to I found some really
cute basically gummies on a stick here
and I've got a little bunny here to pop
into the royal icing and then I've got a
whole bunch
the Easter eggs some flowers so I'm just
going to go ahead and fill up my little
thing here with some more royal icing
we're going to create the feel in
between the two layers you want to be
generous in between here and if you need
a good recipe for Royal I think I've got
that linked in the description box for
you as well make sure you avoid that
little spot at the bottom where we're
going to put the dowel then you're going
to take your second half and you're
going to flip it upside down and then
line it up and then just let it harden
completely so that's going to take
probably a couple hours using a number
32 tip and my royal icing I am piping
borders around this front opening and
then also around where the two eggs are
connected just go around that you could
use any kind of tip that you want to I
love this one so to give our egg a
little bit extra stability while we put
it around the dowel I'm just adding some
more of the royal icing Oh give it a
little bit of a cushion a little bit
more of a cement now the dowel might
stick up through the grass you can
either trim it off afterwards or you can
add like an egg in front of it or
whatever you might want to hide the
dowel with just lining that up and I'm
just going to pop that down let's see
there we go so here we go right like
that and just hold it in place make sure
it's going to stay for you and thanks
pretty much done last thing we need to
do is make the nest we're going to make
it using isomalt and my handy-dandy
little whisk hack that I did this is the
same way that I made Poppy's hair in my
trolls video so I've just got some bread
pans here sitting underneath some
parchment paper and i'm just literally
just pulling the string across here and
the isomalt is with sugar substitute if
you want to use real sugar all you have
to do is heat up about half a cup of
sugar in a pan with a couple tablespoons
of water and then you want to heat it
until it's a nice like really light
amber and you'll get the same effect
here it'll be a little bit more
realistic of a color rather than this
like lovely bright yellow though
I want a nice bright spring cake here so
I'm just going to keep spinning this
until I've got enough for a nest last
thing we need to do is wrap our isomalt
around our egg now the isomalt will
start to disintegrate with the moisture
of the cake in it so you want to put it
on basically at the latest possible time
you can I'm just going to kind of like
tuck it in here and you can manipulate
it however you need to and you're going
to press that down like that and just
kind of you confirm it with scissors if
you want to take a little bit less off
and we've got our beautiful cake so
there you go everybody here is our
panoramic sugar egg cake now I put a
light inside this one so you guys are
able to see the scene a little bit
better pay attention to the description
box for details on how you would do that
if you also want to put a light inside
of yours if you liked this video give it
a thumbs up share it with your friends
so they can see it as well and if you're
interested in more Easter videos check
out our Easter playlist link in the
description box as well see you next
